Carnage is probably the only word that could describe the scene on BBC News. The sight of two cars pinned up against the central reservation and trapped underneath the trailer of the lorry that had collided with them. The M4 Motorway as it passes to the south of Slough is closed in both directions causing huge disruption to people who are not trying to get to London from the west of the UK but to London Heathrow Airport as well. A big queue of traffic tails back towards Reading as the traffic is forced off the motorway and onto the local routes through town via the A4.

The situation is made worse when it is reported that there are several crates of Nitro-Glycerine canisters stored in the lorry's trailer which weren't secured properly when loaded on. Several rescue teams have to move the lorry with the contents still inside as the injuries to the mother and son in one vehicle and the male in the other are undetermined. The broadcast shows strong cables being attached from the fronts of the two Fire-Engines to the lorry. Fire-Fighters are ready with hoses just in case the Nitro-Glycerine is shaken so much that it caused it to explode – which is the exact scenario the crews are trying to avoid.

Final checks are made, and the Fire Chief gives the order. The lorry's trailer is slowly and carefully brought back onto its wheels and a loud clattering sound is heard inside the trailer. The reporter takes cover at that moment braces themselves for an explosion that never comes.

With the lorry removed, the rest of the rescue workers could set about freeing the trapped victims in the cars. Jaws of Life are used to cut open the roofs of the cars so it's possible to gain access to the victims. The camera pans away and the report describes that the young boy in the second car is shaken and upset but unhurt. His mother isn't so lucky. She has suffered extensive injuries to her legs, neck and spine and after being carefully lifted out, is put on a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance. The male driver in the front car is reported dead on the scene.

"One fatality," the reporter states, "It could have been a lot worse though. Well done to all the crews on scene here today."

On board Thunderbird 10, Chief Space-Controller Conrad is in his quarters when he receives a call from his good friend Alan Tracy. Alan and Conrad had become close friends following the incident where the coolant reactor had gone into meltdown. With a huge smile on his face, he answers the call.

"Hey, Conrad," Alan says, "You seem pretty happy today, life good?"

"Very," Conrad replies, "I'm going on a week's leave tomorrow. I can't wait to see my family again. They pulled off a rescue today."

"Did they?" Alan enquires, "Whatever it was can't have needed International Rescue."

"Has International Rescue ever been called out to an RTC?" Conrad laughs.

"A what now?" Alan asks, puzzled.

"RTC," Conrad clarifies, "Road Traffic Collision."

"Ohhhhh," Alan realises, "One of those. No, I can't say we have."

"My sister was among the first on the scene," Conrad explains, "She spotted the danger inside the lorry and alerted my Fire-Fighter brother and when they got the lorry off the cars my Paramedic brother was the one who took one of the injured to hospital."

"Wow!" Alan says, "They sound pretty amazing, your family."

"What about you?" Conrad questions, "How many missions have you had lately?"

"Not me personally," Alan responds, "Thunderbirds 1 and 2 have had the most lately. They're out right now as a matter of fact. Even Thunderbird 4 has had a few missions. But Thunderbird 3 hasn't been used in almost a month. I've been keeping myself busy in the US at Tracy Industries."

"You'll get your chance, Alan," Conrad states, "Now if you'll excuse me, I'd better rest before my long flight home tomorrow."

"Enjoy it, Conrad. Talk to you soon," Alan nods and signs off.

Thunderbirds 1 and 2 are returning to base following a mission in Africa to save a doctor and his pilot from an African tribe. Scott is leading the way in Thunderbird 1 with Virgil, Nina and Gordon following behind in Thunderbird 2. In the distance, the distinctive shape of Tracy Island is a welcoming sight.

"Home in sight," Scott sighs, "Nearly there, Thunderbird 2."

"FAB, Scott," Nina acknowledges, "See you there."

From the veranda outside the kitchen, Alan and Kayo can just make out the shapes of the two Thunderbird ships as they approach.

"Better get inside," Kayo muses, "Scott will be landing shortly."

"And then we'll have to put the sun-loungers back in place yet again," Alan remarks. He'd lost count on how many times they'd had to put the sun-loungers back into their right places after every launch and landing made by Thunderbird 1. Thunderbird 7 was a welcomed addition to the Thunderbird fleet meaning it could be used rather than Thunderbird 1. However, with Marion on leave to look after Walter, Thunderbird 1 is back in frequent use for the first time in a while.

The couple head inside and closed the doors lined with special blast-proof glass so the inside would be protected from the exhaust from Thunderbird 1 as it lands.

As the island comes into full view, Scott begins to decrease power to Thunderbird 1's engines. "Thunderbird 1 to Tracy Island. Permission to land, Dad?"

"FAB, Thunderbird 1," Jeff answers, "Come on down."

Suddenly, the cockpit of Thunderbird 1 turns red for danger as alarms started wailing. "Shit!" Scott cries in surprise. He adjusts the controls, but they aren't responding.

From inside Thunderbird 2, Virgil, Nina and Gordon watch in alarm as black smoke starts billowing out from underneath Thunderbird 1.

"Er, Scott, I think you're on fire!" Gordon exclaims.

"Thunderbird 1, you're billowing smoke!" Virgil confirms.

Scott grunts as he tries to get a response from the controls. "Fuck! My engines are failing!" he growls.

Then with a cough, a splutter and a groan, Thunderbird 1's engines cut out completely and it begins to drop towards the water below.

"SCOTT!" Nina yells.

5... 4... 3... 2... 1... Thunderbirds are Go!

Scott looks down through the glass cockpit below to see the surface of the ocean getting closer at an alarming rate. He tries again and again but Thunderbird 1 doesn't respond. He closes his eyes and braces for impact.

Suddenly, there's a sudden sharp jolt as Thunderbird 1 comes to a halt. Scott waits a few seconds before opening his eyes. To his surprise, he isn't in the water, but has stopped barely inches from it. "Wait, what?" he mutters, confused.

"Sit tight, big brother, I've got you," Virgil calls over the coms.

Virgil had acted quickly and raced Thunderbird 2 over Thunderbird 1 to catch it with the magnetic grab and had just managed to catch it before it hit the sea.

Scott breathes a big sigh of relief. "Thanks, Virgil," he replies, gratefully.

Having successfully returned Thunderbird 1 to its hangar, Brains and Moffy immediately set to work examining the craft to try and find out what the problem was. As they work with assistance from MAX, Jeff, Scott and Marion with Walter on her hip wait for them to give their report.

"Well?" Marion enquires, annoyed, "What happened?"

"It would a-appear that a small amount of s-sand from the b-big storm you encountered g-got into one of t-the air intakes, Scott," Brains explains.

"But we've had several missions out in the deserts before, Brains," Scott replies confused, "This has never happened before."

"Yes, but for some reason the hatch on this one failed to close," Moffy interjects, showing everyone on the hologram, "However we have yet to get to the bottom of why it waited until you were almost back at Tracy Island before it clogged up your engines."

"Well, you–" Marion starts but is cut off by Jeff.

"What I think Marion is trying to say," Jeff starts, "Is that we need to try and make sure it doesn't happen again. It was lucky it happened in the vicinity of both Thunderbird 2 and Tracy Island."

"Maybe we should start doing more checkups on the Thunderbirds, especially when they haven't been used in a while?" Scott suggests.

"That d-definitely s-s-something that will be done g-going forward," Brains nods, "Now if you please excuse us."

Jeff stays with Brains and Moffy while Scott and a very angry Marion return to the villa. Scott notices his wife's expression and forces her to come to a stop, taking Walter from her.

"Babe, I'm fine," Scott says and indicates to himself, "No harm was done in the end."

"This time," Marion fires back, "This isn't the first time you've nearly fallen out of the sky but that's the closest you've come to crashing since I've known you."

"Brains reckons she'll be fine once the sand is cleaned out and the intake repaired," Scott informs.

"I don't give a shit about Thunderbird 1," Marion hisses, "I care about you and you coming home to your family."

Scott sighs as he comes to sit on one of the sofas. "Look I didn't mean to scare you."

"But you do Scotty," Marion mutters, in a softer tone and comes to sit down next to him, "Every time you have gone out since Walter was born, I worry if that'll be the last time he'll ever see his father."

"I'll take to Brains about adding an ejector seat," Scott decides, "I've got the training from when I was in the Air Force."

"Thank you," Marion smiles, "I love you."

"I love you too," Scott replies and gives her a small but sweet kiss on her lips.

Meanwhile, on Thunderbird 10, Ridley is preparing to start her main 8-hour shift. Earlier, she had given Conrad all clear to return to London Heathrow for his scheduled vacation. Conrad certainly was quick to accept his role on Thunderbird 10 after Space-Hub 1 had been decommissioned. From Ridley's perspective he is a good fit for the role and someone that she can trust to run certain operations while she was away from the huge space station.

As Ridley finishes fixing up her hair and walks into the International Rescue sector an alarm goes off as Conrad's hologram appears on screen.

"Mayday! Mayday! This is Chief Space-Controller Conrad of Thunderbird 10," Conrad exclaims, "Port-engine has flamed out! I'm losing control!"

"Conrad, this is Ridley," Ridley answers, "Thunderbird 10 receiving. Do you need assistance?"

"Hey, Captain," Conrad grunts, "I do have a visual on the runway at Heathrow. I should be able to make it. But it's going to be close!"

Controller Burtenshaw then spoke up. "Shuttle 1," Heathrow Control responds, "We'll clear Runway Two-Seven Romeo and have the Crash Crews standing by."

"Roger," Conrad acknowledges, "Just gotta–"

There's a loud "BANG!" as the starboard engine packs up as well. All the systems aboard the shuttle go dead and Conrad now finds himself on an uncontrollable spiral heading away from Heathrow. As he battles to regain control, he is horrified when he suddenly sees where he's heading.

"All control lost! I repeat, all control lost!" Conrad cries, "Ridley, are you still there? Call for assistance. I am going to need–"

"Conrad?" Ridley calls as she urgently tries to reconnect, "Conrad, come in!"

She watches as the operational signal from the shuttle that Conrad is on go from green to black indicating a crash and throws a punch at a nearby monitor completely shattering it.

"Thunderbird 5," Ridley states, pressing down on her com-link on her sash, "We have a situation."

May 11th 2067 - 07:18 NZST

"…and then he was cut off. Guessing his radio failed," John finishes.

"Has he crashed?" Scott asks.

"According to my scans, yes," John replies, "Good news is I'm picking up a life-sign meaning he's alive. Bad news is where he's crashed." He brings up a hologram showing them. "The shuttle has gone straight into the eighty-first floor of the one-hundred floor Palm-Tree Tower in Slough."

"Slough?" Alan questions, "That's his hometown!"

"There's no time to waste boys!" Jeff states, "Nina, go with Virgil as usual. Brains, is Thunderbird 1 airworthy?"

"I have c-completed my repairs, but I haven't approved her f-for flight yet, Mr Tracy," Brains replies.

"I'll go," Marion suddenly says to the surprise of everyone. Scott opens his mouth in interject but Marion raises her hand to silence him. "Conrad's shuttle may have damaged the building. We need to be there ASAP and Thunderbird 7 is the fastest we've got."

"Very well, Marion," Jeff nods.

"Just be careful," Scott adds.

"FAB," Marion smiles.

Thunderbirds are Go!

May 10th 2067 - 20:48 BST

Thunderbird 7 arrives on the scene. Conrad's shuttle remains intact following the impact with Palm-Tree Tower. The tower itself hasn't fared quite as well. Several windows both above and below are shattered and two floors have been ripped out. If it hadn't been for the shuttle now being wedged in the side of the building, it would collapse.

By an even greater miracle, nobody had been working in the top section of the tower when the shuttle crashed so nobody else is hurt. Even those walking on the ground who have witnessed the crash had been able to get clear before chunks of shattered glass and torn steel had come crashing down.

The town centre of Slough is flooded with the sounds of sirens wailing with the huge amount of local emergency services on the scene. This is made up of ten Fire-Engines, six Ambulances and nine Police Cars and Vans.

"Tracy Island this is Mission Control, I've arrived," Marion informs, "Looks bad. The shuttle's stuck inside the tower. From what I can see it's the only thing stopping it from falling down!"

"FAB, Marion," Jeff says, "Have you tried contacting Conrad?"

"Negative," Marion replies, "John says he's been trying but having no luck. John?"

John's hologram appeared beside Jeff's. "Still nothing," he confirms. "I've still got his life-sign showing. He seemed to regain consciousness briefly but has passed out again. Also, I'm detecting four other people inside the tower. Eight floors down and climbing!"

"They sent emergency workers inside?!" Nina exclaims who has been listening in from Thunderbird 2, "Are they insane?"

"They probably didn't even know we were coming," Virgil points out.

"The building's structural integrity is decreasing rapidly," John notes, "At a rough guess I reckon it will collapse in less than twenty minutes!"

"Thunderbird 2, what's your ETA?" Marion asks.

"We've crossed the coast, Mission Control," Nina states, "Will be there in five minutes."

"FAB," Marion says, "I'm going to go and talk to the Emergency Chiefs."

There is nowhere for Thunderbird 7 to land, so Marion moves to hover at a safe distance from the Palm-Tree before using her jetpack to fly down to where a Fire Chief and a Police Inspector stand.

"Hi there," Marion nods, "I'm with International Rescue."

"So we see," the Chief mutters.

"I don't know who called you, but we're glad you're here," the Inspector adds.

"Gentlemen, we need the entire area evacuated," Marion orders, "We've run scans of the building, and we predict it's going to fall in just under twenty minutes. Thunderbird 2 will be here in less than five, but I suggest you pull your workers out of there, so they are out of harm's way."

The pair in front of her exchange alarmed looks before the Fire Chief got onto the radio. "Chief to Cutters, do you read?"

"Go ahead," a voice, presumably Cutters, answers, "We're just three floors away now."

"Cutters, stop and listen to me," the Chief states, "International Rescue is here and has told us that the building is going to collapse soon. Let them handle the rescue. Get back down here immediately."

"Certainly not!" Cutters replies angrily, "International Rescue has no business here! Tell them to go away and let us do our jobs!"

Marion, the Chief and Inspector are startled by this.

"Cutters, this isn't a request!" the Chief snaps, "I know that your brother is in that shuttle, but I will not have you endanger your lives any further. Evacuate immediately!"

"Brother?" Marion enquires.

"Yes, my officer in there is his sister as well," the Inspector adds.

"Sorry, Chief," the fireman responds, "You're breaking up!"

"Cutters?" McGregor questions, "Get back down here now! THAT IS AN ORDER!"

He however doesn't get an answer because the Fire Lieutenant has turned off his radio.

"He's cut me off!" the Chief exclaims in disbelief, "I'll have him for this!"

"Easy, Chief," Marion says, "I can understand why he thinks that but right now let's get everyone here out of harm's way."

As Marion begins to help the Chief and the Police move their vehicles and the crowds back even further from the Palm-Tree, Thunderbird 2 arrives on the scene. It also coincides with a sudden violent shake as one of the tower supports buckle and more windows shatter.

"That tower's not going to last much longer," Nina remarks.

"Agreed," Virgil confirms and quickly gets up and hurries out of the cockpit, "Take over. I'll go in there and cut Conrad out of the shuttle."

"FAB," Nina replies, taking over the controls.

"Word of warning, Virgil," Marion interjects as she appears on the holo-projector, "If you encounter those emergency workers, don't let them stop you. One of them is Conrad's brother and by the sound of it he doesn't want us to save him."

"What?" Virgil enquires as he enters the Module, "Why?"

"Something to do with him, his other brother and sister being the ones to save him," Marion sighs.

"Oh yes!" Alan suddenly shouts. He'd been listening to the Internation Rescue coms from his office in Kansas City and remembered one of his first conversations with Conrad. "Conrad told me about them," he explains, "I recall he said one was a Fireman, one was a Paramedic, and his sister is a Police Officer."

"And all three are inside trying to save him?" Virgil asks as he put on his own Jaws of Life mech-suit.

"Can't blame them for wanting to try," Alan shrugs.

"No, but they're in more danger than Conrad is right now if the building collapses," Marion mutters, "Virgil, you'll have to get them out after Conrad."

"FAB," Virgil responds, "Nina, I'm ready."

"Lowering Module," Nina replies. She presses a button, and the Module is lowered from the main body of Thunderbird 2.

As the door opened, Virgil uses a new double-grapple-launcher that attaches one end to the rear of the Module and the other to one of the metal beams of the Palm-Tree Tower. He then attaches it to his suit and runs forwards before sliding out of the Module and over into the tower.

"I'm in!" Virgil cries after detaching himself and then releasing the grapple cable from the Module, "I'm going to make my way to Conrad."

"Hurry, Virgil," John orders, "Building integrity is down to 48%!"

"Hurrying," Virgil says.

As soon as he says this, there's a sudden loud explosion as a gas cylinder, used by workmen, suddenly explodes after being knocked over by the sudden shake of the building. It rips out a massive hole in from Floors 11-16 and the tower begins to lean over. There's a loud female scream, presumably coming from Conrad's sister. Nina moves around the tower and sees a figure dangling over one-hundred feet off the ground.

"Shit," Marion mumbles. On the ground, everyone is watching in horror. People covering their mouths with one hand and pointing with the other as they see a helpless and terrified Police Officer holding onto what seems to be a railing for dear life.

"Fuck!" Nina states, "I can't get close enough if she falls!"

"I'll get her," Marion decides, firing up her jetpack and racing up towards the officer, "Virgil, how are you doing in there?"

Unlike the other emergency workers, Virgil has successfully managed to make his way through to the shuttle. "I'm here, Mission Control," he informs, "The hatch has been damaged in the crash. I'm gonna have to cut a new one." He activates the laser in his shoulder-mounted LED light and begins cutting his way into the hull of the shuttle.

Marion approaches the base of the building before gaining altitude. As she goes up, she uses her scanner to make sure that there are definitely no more people left inside the building. However, her thoughts are cut off by everyone on the ground crying out in alarm. Marion snaps her neck upwards and sees that the officer is now indeed falling with her arms failing around and the sound of a scream ripping out of her throat. The jetpack roars into life and Marion propels herself upwards towards the rapidly approaching figure. She extends her arms outwards and, in a flash, the officer lands into her arms. The added weight causes Marion to drop in high slightly but her extensive rehabilitation training after she had the baby meant she is prepared for this.

"Easy, Constable," Marion muses as she holds a very white female in her arms, "I've got you."

"You, you've got me?!" the Officer cries in disbelief and she blinks and looks around, "Who's got YOU?!"

Marion lets out a light chuckle and begins to carefully fly her down towards the ground. Once on the ground, she slowly places the policewoman on her feet and holds onto her shoulders, looking her in the eye.

"Are you okay?" Marion asks.

"Y-Y-Y-Yes," the officer replies shakily, "T-T-Thank Y-Y-You."

No sooner had she muttered out her thanks, Marion watches her eyes roll into the back of her head and tightens her grip on her before bringing her onto the floor.

"MEDIC!" Marion shouts as two of paramedics come hurrying over with a stretcher.

May 10th 2067 - 21:05 BST

Conrad gradually starts coming to his senses again. He rubs his sore head and is suddenly started by a strange sound that's coming from behind. After unstrapping himself and turning round in his chair, which is somewhat painful, he sees the glowing red light of a laser that's cutting through the port-side of the shuttle.

A large chunk of the hull falls away and Conrad's eyes lit-up as he sees a familiar figure in a green sash climb inside. "Virgil!" he exclaims with relief.

"Hey, Conrad!" Virgil smiles, "Long time, no see! Can you move?"

Conrad tries. He can, but not without pain. "Not easily," he informs, "I think my seatbelt cut into me on impact."

"I'll give you a hand," Virgil states, moving forward so Conrad can grab onto the jaws. He then helps Conrad out through the hole he'd cut through and they begin to make their way back through the path Virgil has created to an open spot by the windows where Nina is waiting with Thunderbird 2.

"I see them!" Nina sighs with relief, "Lowering Module for extraction." She lowers the Module and opens the door once again so that Virgil can use the double-grapple-launcher to get himself and Conrad back to Thunderbird 2.

"We're in!" Virgil states, "Mission Control, is the building clear?"

"Negative," Marion responds, "Those other three emergency workers are still inside, and the building is now at 26%!"

"It's gonna go any second!" Nina exclaims as she watches the building shake violently again.

"Where are the workers?" Virgil demands.

"Right beneath you," Marion says.

"Good," Virgil says, "I have an idea. Love, open the Module door again!"

Nina does so and once it's open, Virgil looks down to see three workers waving frantically at him. He then fires one of the grapples to the rear of the Module again before firing the other one down at them.

"GENTLEMEN, ATTACH YOUR HARNESSES TO THE CABLE! HURRY!" he shouts through his suit's voice amplifier.

Two of them already had harnesses attached to them while the third, the paramedic, didn't. Luckily there had been a spare in the equipment they'd brought with them, so he is able to use that. Once secured, they all gave a thumbs up to show Virgil they are ready.

"They're ready," Virgil informs, "HOLD ON TIGHT! Nina, take her away!"

Nina pulls back on the controls and Thunderbird 2 reverses away from the Palm-Tree pulling the emergency workers out after it. The three men yell as they swing away from the tower and hold on tightly to the cable.

They are just in time for with a sudden shriek of twisting metal and shattering glass, the Palm-Tree's integrity finally gives out and it starts to collapse with the shuttle still inside it.

"STAND CLEAR, EVERYONE!" Virgil's voice booms out, "STAND CLEAR! IT'S GOING!"

The crowds begin running at the urge of the Police and even though they are further away than they had been previously, nobody is prepared to take any chances.

In less than fifteen seconds, the Palm-Tree Tower goes from being the tallest building in Slough to a big pile of twisted rubble. As it hits the ground, the remaining fuel in the shuttle ignites and it explodes in a fireball throwing large chunks of debris high into the air. Thankfully though, none of it lands on anybody when it came down again.

May 10th 2067 - 21:09 BST

Once the dust has settled, Thunderbird 2 is able to land its rescued passengers safely onto the ground. Conrad has an emotional reunion with his brothers as they head over to see their sister that Marion saved, who is in the back of one of the ambulances being given oxygen.

"CONRAD!" his sister cries, throwing the equipment off her and jumping out to embrace him before breaking down in tears.

"Oh, Caitlin!" Conrad sighs, hugging his sister tight, "When I heard you'd fallen…"

The other brothers soon join the family embrace whilst Marion, Virgil and Nina watch along with the Fire Chief and Police Inspector. It is only then do Caitlin and Lieutenant Cutters realise they are there and suddenly go very pale. They knew what came now and decide it's time to face the music. They walked up towards them with their heads hung in shame.

"Sirs," the fireman says, "I know what you're going to say. And I'm really sorry. I let my love for my brother get in the way of the important parts of safety."

"It's my fault," Caitlin adds, "I'm the one who panicked when I realised it was Conrad's shuttle and I didn't think about what I was doing."

"We're prepared to receive full disciplinary actions," the fireman nods, standing up straight and preparing to take his punishment like a man.

There's a moment's pause before the Chief finally speaks. "I can't say that what has happened will be forgotten, Cutters. But now isn't the time."

"Agreed," the Inspector nods, "The love that we have for our families can make us all do things without us thinking. We will talk about this, Juliet-15. But as Chief McGregor said, now isn't the time."

The Fire Lieutenant then turns to the International Rescue Crew. "And…I owe you guys an apology," he states, "You were right, and we should have listened to you. I'm sorry."

"Don't worry about it, Lieutenant Cutters," Marion says, stepping forward, "Conrad's your brother so I totally understand." She holds out her hand and Lieutenant shakes it without hesitation.

"Thank you," he says.

"Guess this isn't quite the homecoming you expected, is it?" Nina asks Conrad, who is now standing off to the side by himself.

"No, it certainly wasn't," Conrad chuckles, "And I don't intend to make a habit of it. And yet I feel like it's perfect."

Everyone looks at him, confused.

"A minor hiccup on my shuttle not only brought my friends to me, but my siblings, too, and all in one place," Conrad continues, "To me, that feels even more special."

With Caitlin declared fit to go home by the paramedics, the Thunderbirds leave the scene to return to Tracy Island. Conrad and his siblings wave to the two Thunderbird machines as they raced off into the distance.

"Wow," paramedic brother breathes, "Those guys are amazing."

"Very brave," the Lieutenant aggress.

"And attractive," Caitlin adds.

Conrad smiles. His heart gives a happy flutter, knowing that his family now found his idols are just as incredible as he knew they are.
