Ingrid goes back in the ice cream shop as Elsa walks out of Gold's shop, hiding in the alley between the pawn shop and the store next to it , she looks at the people outside, the cars driving by, and she declares that until she and Anna are together, no one leaves that town. She clenches her fists, causing ice to cover them. An ice barrier then shoots up from the ground up.
"Anna, I promise I will find out what happened to you,"
Inside Mary Margaret's apartment, she is cradling her infant son in her arms, she then puts him down in his crib, Henry shows up and wonders what babies dream about, David replies bullfighting while Emma answers laser tag. Mary Margaret says that's not true. Henry points out that they're joking. Mary Margaret says she'll recognize funny again when he's three and she's had some sleep.
Emma notices the gift basket Henry is prepping up on the counter, Henry says it's for Regina, Emma tells him that's really sweet, and then their attention is caught by the sound of a raven pecking and cawing at the window. David moves to open the window and Mary Margaret takes the note the raven brings from its talons. She reads it and hands it to Henry, from his mother. Henry reads it, suddenly becoming sad, and reveals that Regina doesn't want to see him.
Later, Emma goes to the diner and finds Henry sitting at a table. Ruby approaches her and says, "I offered him the usual, but when he didn't want anything, I had to call you." Emma replies, "Thanks, Ruby. I can handle this." She sits next to Henry and tells him that she read the note, explaining that Regina doesn't want to see him "for right now" while she deals with her issues. Henry responds, "She doesn't want to see me because she's in a lot of pain over Robin Hood, well, forever. Things have been tough for her and for you. She's trying to work through things so you two can be together... because she cares about you."
Henry wonders why Emma told him to stay away. She believes she's making things better, but Henry feels she's not. Suddenly, the lights in the diner go out. David calls Emma on the walkie-talkie and informs her that the entire town is experiencing a blackout. He offers to pick her up so they can investigate together. Emma turns to Henry and asks if he wants to come along, but he assures her it's okay and says he will be at the library or Granny's when the lights come back on. Ruby assures Emma that she'll look after him and bring him back to the loft. Emma thanks Ruby and leaves the diner to join her father. When David and Emma reach the town line, they are both surprised to see a massive ice wall that is the cause of the blackout.
At the town line, Hook joins Emma and David, informing them that the ice wall goes all the way around town. Emma sees something by the wall and goes over there to check it out. On the other side of the barrier, Emma explores the area and finds Elsa. Emma asks what she's doing out there, and if it has something to do with that wall. Elsa claims she's looking for someone, her sister, holding the snowflake necklace in her hand.
Elsa explains that she found it in the store with things, and demands to know where Anna is. Emma says she has no idea, but if she wants her to help, Elsa has to help her too. Emma asks for her sister's name, and Elsa says, "Anna."
As they talk, David and Hook interrupt them, startling Elsa. David points his gun at her, scaring the queen. Emma tries to calm her down and causes ice to rise from the ground, knocking Emma out, and trapping the two women inside an ice cave.
Inside the cave, Elsa demands to bring her what she wants, her sister. Elsa nods, and she points out that she can't really look for her there. She then gets a signal from David, asking if she can hear him, and when Emma grabs her walkie-talkie, responding to her father. Elsa demands that Emma tell them to go get Anna. Emma asks her father if she can hear him and tells them that she is there with a woman who is looking for her sister, Anna, and she seems to think Anna is in town because she found a necklace of hers in Gold's shop, and she wants them to try to find her before...
"Before I freeze this town and everyone in it," The queen adds.
Later, Emma, now starting to suffer the effects of the intense cold asks Elsa about the snow monster she created, Elsa tells her that she'll do whatever it takes to get Anna back. Emma then expresses that she's sorry about Anna's necklace, she tells Elsa that it fell into the ice below them. Elsa looks to see the necklace trapped in a block of ice under a gap on the ground. Emma suggests that she melt it down to get it back. Looking at Elsa, Emma deduces that she can't control her magic and wonders what she said to David was a warning and not a threat because she can't control what she's doing.
Emma surprises Elsa by revealing that she has magic. "Anna helps. She... Helps me control it. So if I can find her, she can help me undo this. We can get rid of all this... The whole wall... When she's here," she reveals and suggests that maybe Emma's magic can get them out. Emma says that she's been trying, but nothing is happening.
Emma starts to suffer more of the cold as she sits down, tired. The Queen of Arendelle then starts to help her new friend, keeping her company and asking if she was born or cursed with magic, "I was raised in a place without magic. I didn't know I had these powers until recently, and I didn't have any parents around to help me with them," Emma explains.
Elsa points out that parents don't always help and tells how she ended up the queen of a kingdom, unprepared. Elsa adds that sometimes it all feels like too much, and even just trying to shut it out ends up hurting people, too. She adds that part of the problem is that she's the only one she's ever heard of with powers like hers. Emma starts shivering as the cold takes its toll on her and begins lying down.
Meanwhile, Leroy, Happy, and Granny enlist Mary Margaret's help to restart the power. She leaves Ruby and Henry to take care of Neal so she can fix the power. She finally tells them to leave her alone, as she is already struggling as a new mother. Despite her anger and stress, she continues to try and fix the power by herself. She manages to restart it by starting up a backup fuel supply line after Ruby called her due to Neal crying and Mary Margaret told Ruby to feed him.
"There's milk in the sink. We managed to get save some ice before the blackout. His milk is just in it. Don't worry, Neal, I'm going be home soon and feed you myself." She then gets the idea of feeding the machine to bring back the town's power.
David and Hook enter Gold's shop asking for his help. David explains that Emma's trapped under the ice by a woman with some kind of ice magic and the woman Emma is trapped with is looking for her sister, Anna, whom she believes to be in town because there's something of hers that Elsa found in his shop, a necklace. Belle finds a card with the necklace's information and gives it to them, David realizes he recognizes the necklace and figures out who Anna is.
David and Hook then find Bo Peep, now a butcher and owner of a meat shop called "The Chop Shop." and asks for her help but she almost uses her cleaver to chop David. Hook steps in and grabs her arm, preventing her from doing so and allowing David to grab hold of her and shove her against the freezer door, telling her his daughter's in trouble and he needs to find the person who can help her, someone she branded. Hook finds her crook and hopes to use it to find Anna. Hook then gets a message from Elsa from the walkie-talkie that Emma is freezing to death.
David and Hook return to the ice wall, talking to Elsa who informs them that she is freezing and turning blue. David tells Elsa that he needs her to find a way out, to which she replies that she needs Anna. David says they don't have her at the moment, but they have a way to find her and will, but she's gonna have to do this on her own.
"I can't control this," Elsa explains to David through the walkie-talkie.
David explains that he knows how she feels, "You're trapped. It's a battle you can't win, but it's exactly the kind of battle you have to fight, or you'll die," Elsa says she'll survive, but Emma might not.
"Survival isn't enough," David tells her, "You have to live," A saying Elsa is familiar with, leading her to ask where David heard that, "You know where," David replies, smiling. Elsa realizes he knows Anna. David tells Elsa that Anna helped her once to become who he is today, a long time ago, she saved his life and her sister's, and now he needs her to save Emma's, "I didn't know much about Anna, but... She wouldn't want you to live alone in an ice cave, which is where you'll be if you don't melt that ice. Now do it!" He advises Elsa.
Elsa concentrates and uses her magic to forge a hole into the ice, but it isn't enough. "I can't, I can't do it alone."
"You're not alone," Emma says as she suddenly feels the strength to stand up, use her magic, and help Elsa. The two women use their magic to create a hole in the wall for both of them to go through. David approaches Elsa, who tells her that he owes her sister everything, and what he said is true, she helped him and now he's going to help Elsa. "This isn't over," he says, "We're going to find Anna." Elsa nods. Emma suddenly collapses in Hook's arms, who tells David that Emma needs to warm up
They return to the apartment, where Hook and Henry help Emma warm up. She notices Elsa and asks if she's okay. "Not only have I lost my sister, but I've also lost what's left of her necklace. Now I have nothing of hers," she replies.
Visual Imagery: After Elsa says that, Ruby, who was taking care of Neal, pauses for a couple of seconds and then continues what she was doing.
Ruby leaves Neal and asks Elsa if she wants hot cocoa with cinnamon, placing her hands on Elsa's shoulders, but Elsa tells her that she's good, David grabs the shepherd's crook and they use it to find Anna, but Elsa can't see anything, David assures her that it will work, and Hook asks if it's broken, leaving Elsa to wonder that it could mean that something happened to Anna. Emma then hears a sound, which reveals to be the sound of a heartbeat that everyone in the apartment hears. "We might not know where your sister is... But we know the most important thing," Emma says to Elsa, who says that Anna is alive, David places her hand on Elsa's shoulders, assuring her. "Don't worry, we'll find her."
Visual Imagery: The shepherd's crook glows different shades of icy blue, and the circular top of it places Ruby in the middle, painting her whole figure blue When Mary Margaret returns and thanks Ruby of taking care of Neal, Ruby leaves the apartment. Outside, she looks up at the window where Mary Margaret's loft is, and smiles. She then walks past the diner to her car, looking around and then driving away.
"Because that's what this family does. We find people. We always do because we really... Really don't like to give up." David assures Elsa.
Later, Elsa and Emma return to the ice wall. Emma points out that while Elsa might struggle to control it, the display is amazing and unique. She recalls Elsa telling her that she was the only one with such "cool" magic. "That's probably a good thing for everyone," Elsa responds, adding that there is no need for the barrier anymore. She uses her ice magic to take it down, but nothing happens. Elsa starts to wonder why she can't take it down, as there is no reason why it should be staying up since she's the only person with that kind of power. Emma then wonders as well what's keeping it up.
In the ice wall, a frozen hand grabs the half-broken necklace from the cracked floor and leaves the ice wall with it, turning into snowflakes.
Then, in the ice cream store Any Given Sundae, Ingrid gives an ice cream cone to Leroy, who asks her about the power outage and if she lost any of her merchandise. She replies that she didn't lose anything. She watches Leroy leave the store. On the counter next to her, we see a bucket of unfrozen ice cream mix. She slides one hand over the bucket and turns it into ice cream. She takes a bit out with her finger and licks it clean. She leans on a freezer, covering the entire thing in ice.
