Chapter 12: Party Girls (part 2)

[During the sleepover, they play music on the stereo, look through magazines, eat, chat, etc.]

Girl 1: she and another girl are talking to Emma by the counter. "Your mom's still serving vegetable salad, right? I've brought my diet supplement just in case."

Emma: "I might not be on the swim team anymore, but I still eat sensibly."

"Unfortunately," Rikki mutters.

Girl 2: "I'm tapering, but I've got to be up at 5:00 in the morning for training." She points to the others. "So is Jay. So is Kelly."

Emma: "Relax, I've set up a quiet room upstairs for anyone who's got to crash early."

Girl 2: "That's our Emma." She grabs the other girl's shoulder. "We so miss you on the swim team."

Emma: "I still swim, occasionally."

"Was that a hint or an inside joke?" Rikki looks at her with a hint of annoyance. "Inside joke," Emma smiles.

"Do you miss the swim team?" Ash asks. Emma sighs and looks at him. "Yes, but it can't beat swimming like we do." Will nods in agreement happily.

Girl 1: picks up a bottle as Cleo comes over on the other side of the counter. "These are so cute." Emma and Cleo look at each other and smile.

"Told you," Cleo grins.

[Later, the girls are doing each other's makeup with Cleo in the mix, while Emma and Rikki stand in the entryway watching them.]

Emma: talking to Rikki, she smirks. "I told you it wasn't your scene."

Rikki: "I can't believe it's anyone's scene."

"I can't believe you went to it," Terry says impressed.

[The doorbell rings and they see Miriam and Zane walk in with pastries.]

Miriam: arms crossed. "I don't know which one of my numbers you sent my invitation to, but, it managed to get lost."

Rikki: "So how about joining it?"

The audience laughs, even Harrison snorts. "Smart girl," he comments. "Why would they want the first number?" Kim asks.

"Rikki! That's not nice," Lisa frowns, still not understanding why they would be so mean to Miriam. Better than punching her in the face, Rikki scowls.

Emma begins to get irritated again by just looking at the screen with those two on there.

Emma: "Glad you could make it." Miriam walks off into the living area, ignoring her, while Zane heads for the kitchen when Lisa walks downstairs and sees him. Emma sighs.

Lisa: "Zane, fancy seeing you here. Come in. What a delightful surprise." She sees Miriam in the living room as she and Zane walk into the kitchen. She opens her arms and hugs Miriam. "And Miriam, I haven't seen you in ages."

"Why would you hug her mom?" Emma whines, still irritated.

"You two used to be friends a long time ago. What changed?" Lisa asks. "She did," Emma points to the screen. "You used to be friends with Miriam?" Rikki says, looking disgusted. "Once, but never again."

Rikki: with Emma by the steps, watching them. "I can't stand gate crashers. You want me to kick them out? Totally."

Emma: shakes her head and sighs. "Forget it. I don't want to make a scene in front of my mom." She walks to the kitchen with a fake smile with Rikki following her.

"I should have," Rikki scoffs.

Lisa: "And what about you, Zane?"

Zane: looks at Emma, smiling. "Your mom has invited us to stay and eat with you guys." Emma gets annoyed as Miriam smirks.

Emma: "I hope there's enough food."

Lisa: nods to the pastries. "Oh, well, Zane must have thought the same thing. He's brought along a contribution."

Zane: holds up the platter for them. "Pastries gluten free." Emma rolls her eyes.

Lisa: "Oh, very thoughtful." They smile.

"Seems suspicious," Charlotte says. "Better not be another prank Zane," Harrison warns.

"Kiss up," Kim whispers annoyed.

Emma: "Mom, can I talk to you?" She grabs Lisa by the arm and leads her near the stairs. "Mom, they weren't invited." She looks at the mentioned two. Zane feeds sushi to Miriam.

"She couldn't feed herself?" Lewis asks. "Apparently not," Cleo says.

Lisa: "Oh, well they're here now."

Emma: "And you asked them to stay." She throws her hands up.

Lisa: "Emma, you and Zane might not get along the way you used to, but he's an old family friend." He waves at her and she returns the action. "You should make more of an effort. He's a lovely young man."

"Thanks, Mrs. Gilbert," Zane smiles a little, feeling a little attacked these past few showings. She smiles at him; Emma scoffs, thinking that she might change her mind once she realizes what this lovely young man did to them and their secret. She stares intently at the screen as she thinks of how he tried to ruin her party.

Lisa: "Alright, time for me to go. Have a good one." She points at her and runs off upstairs.

"It was good as it could get," Cleo smiles, grabbing her necklace.

Girl 2: on the floor in blankets. "Hey, let's get into our pj's."

Everyone: "Yeah." They all agree and get up. Zane watches them when Miriam turns his head back her way before he watches them again, eating sushi while holding the platter.

"Pervert," Emma narrows her eyes at him, anger building up again as she breathes in and out to try and let it go. "Making her jealous I see," Ash says. Although he intended it for Miriam, it only caused Rikki to clench her jaw, watching him.

Rikki: in the kitchen. "There's got to be a parallel universe."

"Still hoping on that one," Rikki points out.

[In their pj's, most of the girls surround Zane, admiring him, while a few of them lay back in the bean bags and look at the magazines. The trio are sitting at the dining table looking bored.]

Cleo: "Well, this is boring. Everyone is just talking to Zane."

"Not to me," Zane jokes, hoping to get a rise out of Rikki, however, she just scoffs.

"At least some of them had common sense not to get around him," Cleo mentions.

Rikki: "He's up to something."

Emma: leaning onto the table, laying her head into her hands, annoyed. "Yeah, taking over my party." Looks over to Zane. "Zane, I need to speak to you, now."

"I wasn't trying to," Zane says feeling sorry. "Yeah, right."

Zane: looks at her then at the girls. "Sorry, Emma, I can't. The girls need me." They giggle as Miriam gets jealous.

"No, they don't," Emma said, her anger rising. "Emma, you okay?" Cleo asks, whispering to her. "I'm fine," she huffs.

Emma: "Zane." Gets up and walks to him.

Zane: "Emma, really, I'd be letting them down."

Emma: "They'll cope." She grabs his arm and drags him away.

Zane: whispers to the girls. "Excuse me, ladies, I think I'm needed for a moment in private." The girls aww and ooh while Rikki looks on in disgust.

"That's it! Zane! How could you?!" Emma yells, having not heard that comment, her anger finally boiling over as she jumps out of her seat and aims her hand at him. People gasp, fearing what she was going to do, especially Zane as fear shows in his eyes; but before she could do anything, Rikki and Cleo pop up from their seats and grab her arm and slowly bring it down as Emma begins to breathe heavily. Her face reddens with fury as she sends a death glare at the troublesome boy. "How could you? You pull pranks, you come to my party without an invite with that prissy demon, and you try ruining my party. But that comment is over the line!" she yells. She takes a few deep breaths before continuing. "Lying to them, lying to my friends is too much. Everything you did to us was too much," she says, hinting about when they were caught.

"Emma, relax, this was him before. I'm pretty sure watching himself do this stuff might make him realize that what he did was wrong. Okay?" Rikki tells her, hoping to calm the feisty blonde down. Emma laughs as a few tears fall down her face. "Yeah, right. He's the same. Always has and always will be," she shakes her head and plops back down in her chair.

Zane looks at his old friend with deep worry and shame. He knows that everything he did was wrong, and he wonders that maybe Mrs. Gilbert was right: that he needed to put in more of an effort. But the only thing he could do right now was apologize. "Emma, I'm so sorry. I should have never done that stuff." Emma scoffs. "Whatever you say, Zane," causing his guilt to deepen. He looks over to Rikki who just shakes her head slowly as she and Cleo sit back down, the latter noticing the small exchange between the two.

Lisa and Neil stare at the on-screen incident in shock, not believing that the young man they once knew would do something like this. Lisa immediately begins to feel sorry for Emma, about the words she had spoken with her before on the screen earlier. Was she wrong?

"We will definitely be having a talk about your behavior when we get back," Harrison whispers in a low voice, scaring Zane a little.

[Up in Emma's bedroom, they walk in, Zane following behind her. She turns around and glares at him with her arms crossed. Zane looks around and sees a picture on her shelf.]

Zane: "Ah, check this." Grabs the picture. "Our old primary school photo." He shows the photo and leans on the bed frame.

"Feels like ages ago," Lisa mutters, trying to forget the earlier problem. "That's because it was," Bev reminds.

"At least you still remember when you were a decent human being back then," Emma spats out, her anger still hanging around.

Emma: she walks next to him. "Whatever you're trying to pull Zane, forget it."

Zane: "Hey, I'm just here with Miriam."

"Yes, along with every other girl," Bella says, rolling her eyes.

"That you invited!" Emma shouts. Zane lowers himself back in his seat, he probably will not be having a good conversation with her for a while.

Emma: puts her arms on her hips. "Oh really? And what does your girlfriend think of you flirting with everyone else?"

Zane: wide-eyed. "Girlfriend? I don't think so. Miriam is the girl I let follow me around whenever it suits me."

"So, you're a player," Charlotte sums up. "I am not," Zane defends, but quiets down after all the other girls begin glaring at him.

"How could you date a guy like him?" Emma whispers, waving a hand at him. "We broke up, remember?" she quickly explains, still trying to keep their relationship on the down-low. "He could've been doing the same to you when you two were dating," Emma accuses, causing Rikki to start getting angry as she crosses her arms and leans back, ignoring the other blonde.

Emma: "You are such a user."

Zane: quickly turns and points at himself. "Me? Hey, I bought her a new outfit for tonight. She's getting a good deal." He puts the picture back down and turns around as Rikki walks in the door with the platter of pastries he brought.

Rikki: "Pastries anyone?" Emma leans over and Zane looks surprised.

Zane: "I really shouldn't. They're a gift, for you, and you're guests."

"Weren't expecting that were you?" Lewis smirks, thinking there might be some payback. "This is going to be good," Kim smiles.

Emma: puts her hand on his arm. "Oh but you are a guest, Zane. Go on."

Rikki: "Go ahead." Zane smiles, fixing to choose one on the edge but Rikki stops him. "Hmm, how about that one?" She points to the one in the middle. Emma grins and Zane picks up the one she chose and eats it. Rikki's smile falters.

"Are you kidding me?" Kim asks, stunned. "You didn't prank them? Seriously?" Lewis asked surprised. "No, but clearly he wanted to make a fool of someone," Harrison says. "It would've been a good one if you did it to the entire party," Elliot admits, earning a serious look from his father.

Zane: "Mm hmm, delicious. Perhaps, I'll eat them all myself." Emma and Rikki look at one another surprised. Zane sees their faces. "What? You didn't think I'd be so immature as to put prunes or something in them, did you?"

"Actually yes, we did," Emma admits, her anger starting to calm down a little, but still there.

Emma: sighs and pats him and shoves him out the door with Rikki following. "Ok, lets go, Zane." They go down the stairs with Zane complaining while Emma keeps pushing.

Zane: "You'll be sorry." He points to himself as he turns to face them. "You're looking at the life of the party here, girls." She shoves him to the back door.

"That's what you think," Rikki mutters, annoyed by her boyfriend's actions.

Girl 3: in the living room with the others. "Hey, Emma, come show us your necklace."

Emma: ducks down to look through the open view in the wall. "Just a minute." She turns around to Rikki who opens the door. "Get rid of him. And do me a favor, keep an eye out. I wouldn't be surprised if he made a reappearance." She shoves him once more as she walks away. Rikki makes him back up, waving goodbye before she shuts the door on him and walks back to the entryway.

"The party is saved," Elliot sighs in relief. "Not yet it isn't," Emma says sadly, still upset from earlier, especially from the Miriam incident that will soon be occurring.

[Emma walks into the kitchen and takes off her top shirt and lays it on the counter as the girls surround her looking at the necklace that she takes off to show them.]

Girl 1: "Wow."

Girl 2: "It's beautiful." They touch it as Miriam tries to sneak a look at it in the back.

Girl 3: "That's so pretty."

"Emma, you should've let her look at it," Lisa sighs. "Oh, I think she already had a good look at it mom," Emma scowls, causing her parents to be confused.

Girl 2: "Are you going to come and get in your pj's?"

Emma: points and turns her head back. "Yep, I'm just going to go and get more pillows." She lays her necklace on her shirt and goes upstairs while the girls look at it again with Miriam still watching from afar.

Girl 4: "Towel fight." They scream and all grab a towel, hitting one another with them. Miriam backs away, not wanting to join in on their games. One of the girls goes into the kitchen for some more juice but finds the container. empty. She picks it up to see what is wrong and shakes it.

"What happened to pillow fights?" Sam asks. "That's what I would like to know," Annette sighs.

Cleo: puts down the magazine from her spot on the bean bag and gets up to help at the counter. "What's the problem?"

Girl 2: "It's just about empty."

Cleo: "I'll get some." She grabs the container.

Girl 2: pulls back. "It's okay, I can do it."

Cleo: pull back. "No, no, you're the guest."

"Just let her do it!" Kim says impatiently.

Girl 2: pulls back. "No, really it's fine." They keep pulling at it until some juice spills from the tap onto Cleo's hand. "I am so sorry."

"Uh-oh," Lewis winces. "I told you to let her do it," Kim sighs.

[Cleo looks around, noticing that everyone has the towels they had laid out when she sees the closet door and runs for it. Ignoring the girls and running through the towel fight, grabbing everyone's attention, she runs in and slams the door. The others watch her go in and stop their game, concerned about her.]

Girl 4: "Why'd she go in there?" She peaks in through the shutters. "You ok in there?" The others walk closer.

Girl 2: "Hey, Cleo, the party's out here."

"Oh really? Didn't notice," Cleo says, rolling her eyes.

Cleo: "Just a second. I'll be out in a minute." They look at one another. Miriam joins them.

Girl 3: "Cleo?" The girl at the door tries to pull it open. When it opens, Cleo falls to the ground in a sleeping bag; everyone laughs at her.

"How did you hide your tail so quick?" Ash asks stunned. "I taught you well," Don says proudly, glad that all her camping training paid off.

Cleo: leans up, looking at them. "About time we got comfy and hit the DVD's, right girls?" They laugh some more.

Girl 2: "Hey, I got an idea."

"Distraction or excuse?" Will asks. "Both."

[Within seconds they have another girl zipped up in a sleeping bag too as they toss her into the air before setting her down. Cleo watches from her spot on the ground, still in the sleeping bag.]

Miriam: "Now, this was Cleo's idea. I think we should give her a turn." Cleo hides her face deeper into the sleeping bag.

"But it wasn't," Cleo says frowning.

Girl 3: they look at her. "Yeah, Cleo, now it's your turn." Everyone begins chanting her name, surrounding her, as Miriam backs away while they are distracted, looking at the necklace.

"Why didn't she join? She's the one who suggested it," Lisa asks, looking confused. "Because she planned the whole thing," Emma says. "Planned what?"

Cleo: brings her tail up and down in the bag. "You're risking serious injury, I'm heavier than I look."

"They didn't notice that? Are you kidding me?" Denman says, sounding annoyed; even she would have noticed that was strange.

[Miriam walks slowly to the necklace, making sure they aren't looking.]

Cleo: "I suffer from motion sickness, and air sickness."

"Air sickness, really? Now your excuses are just decreasing," Kim shakes her head. "I was running out of time," she defends.

[They get closer and closer to grabbing her, when Cleo quickly twists her hand toward the coolers, causing all the drinks and containers to explode. The juice goes everywhere: all over the counters, floors, ceiling, and Miriam, who screams as it gets all over her. This grabs the girl's attention. Cleo puts her hand away, looking anywhere but at Miriam, who is covered from head to toe in slimy juice. Miriam lets out a deep breath, the others begin to laugh as she wipes it away from her eyes and huffs, looking up.]

The audience fills with laughter. Some of the ones who were upset pretty much the whole time during this, like Emma, even brightens up at the sight they just seen. Tears of joy begin to fill everyone's eyes, as they see what the queen wannabe gets what she deserves.

"Oh, come on, Emma! I can't believe you made me miss that!" Zane playfully whines, still laughing, hoping this will get her over her little hissy fit from before. Fortunately, it works, as she lets a small smile form; just a little one. "Me too. That is the best way to use your power, ever," Kim laughs, grabbing her stomach from laughing so hard. "Kim, be nice," Bev says, but still can't help but chuckle herself at the misfortune.

[Emma walks in, with her pj's on and more pillows in her hand. She looks up at the ceiling where the juice was all over it and the lights. She laughs as an idea comes into her head. Rikki watches from a distance.]

Emma: "Not again, every time this room gets hot and full of people, something just happens to the air pressure and bang," she throws her hands up to show effect, "there go the drinks."

"What kind of excuse is that?" Bella chuckles, never having to use that one before.

"It would've been believable if it happened at your father's birthday party," Cleo says. "Please don't bring that back up," Emma winces. "My birthday party? What about it?" Neil asks. "Let's just say you'll see a whole different side of Emma, and possibly us," Cleo admits, catching a few people's attention, including a certain marine biologist.

"That must've been tough to clean," Annette says, relieved that had never happened at her restaurant. "Oh, you have no idea," Rikki complains.

Miriam: glares at her. "Those drinks just ruined my new top!" Emma gives her a fake smile before looking around some more and sees Cleo on the ground in the sleeping bag. She turns around and walks past Rikki. A girl gives Miriam a towel who yanks it out of her hand, while she starts crying and wipes herself off.

"I say she still deserved it," Rikki says, Emma and Cleo nodding along.

[Cleo is in the bathroom on the ground, leaning against the bathroom door with the sleeping bag lying under her, as she blow-dries her tail. There is a knock at the door, and she turns it off.]

"How did you get up there?" Don asks. "Emma and Rikki practically dragged me up there," Cleo winces, remembering the bruises she got from being dragged up the stairs.

Emma: on the other side of the door. "Cleo, it's me. Open up." Cleo reaches up to turn the knob as it opens and Emma squeezes in. She looks in the hallway, making sure no one else was around as Cleo returns to blow-drying. Emma shuts the door and bends down, drying her tail with two towels.

"You didn't lock the door? What happened to being careful?" Emma whines, Cleo just shakes her head and sighs.

[Downstairs, all the girls are sitting while Miriam talks to them.]

Miriam: still covered in slime, holding the towel. "You know, I'm thinking, this is the worst party I've ever been to." Rikki watches her from afar. "Thanks for three hours of my life I'll never get back."

"You mean the party you weren't even invited to?" Bella sarcastically asks. "I'm starting to like her," Rikki mentions, pointing to Bella, as Emma laughs. "Anyone that doesn't like Miriam is automatically your friend."

"As if she needs it," Kim says.

Girl 3: whispers to the others. "I think she's –."

[Miriam puts her towel on top of Emma's necklace and shirt and places the necklace in her hand and walks to the door, hiding it behind her back, when Rikki halts her, blocking her path.]

Lisa and Neil gasp in shock. "Miriam? Why would she try stealing it?" "Why are you so surprised?" Zane asks, gathering enough courage to talk to them again after earlier, "she's always like this."

Rikki: "Give it back."

Miriam: fakes being clueless. "Give what back?"

Rikki: looks her up and down. "You know what I'm talking about."

Miriam: "Get out of my way." She tries shoving past Rikki, but she grabs Miriam's arm, causing her to drop the necklace onto the floor. Miriam lowers her hand and looks anywhere but at her as Rikki picks it up and turns to her.

"That night was clearly not her night," Lewis says, shaking his head. "Good job, Rikki. You went from stealing to stopping a thief," Will jokes, making her smile.

Miriam: "I've got better things to do with my life. Ciao." Walks to the door.

"Like what? Stealing?" Elliot scoffs, upset that she would try stealing her sister's stuff.

Rikki: "Thief." Miriam stops and turns around, smiling with her arms crossed.

Miriam: "Get over it. It's your word against mine and no one is going to believe you. Hey, some people might even think that you took it. See ya." She smiles wickedly once again and opens the door, leaving the property. Rikki looks down sadly, then back up at the door.

"Why didn't you fight back?" Charlotte asks in surprise, knowing that was something the blonde would normally do. "Because, she was right," Rikki sighs, looking down.

Terry's grip tightens on the arms of his chairs, trying to calm down, upset by how his daughter was treated. Unbeknownst to the others, Zane was seething with anger that Miriam would do that to his girlfriend.

[Back in the bathroom, Emma and Cleo are done drying her tail off as they set the blow-dryer onto the bathroom counter and the sleeping bag is still in its place. Cleo and Emma sit on the edge of the tub.]

Emma: "It's not your fault you got wet."

"It kind of is," Lewis says, but realizes he was not helping.

Cleo: "No, but it's my fault you had the party. I was the one that talked you into it."

Emma: "I'm glad you did. Otherwise, I'd be stuck in my room, watching tv all night."

"And thank you for that," Emma smiles at the brunette.

Cleo: "At least you'd be safe from black current sand alfalfa juice."

"Still gross by the way," Kim cringes. "We could tell, we saw the slime," Elliot points out.

Emma: looks down then back at her. "Cleo, you were right to get that job at the marine park. We can't spend our lives hiding."

Cleo: smirks. "I was right? Me? Gee, I'll have to get used to that one." They both smile.

"Don't," Emma says.

"You got two? Lucky," Rikki whines playfully.

[Back to the sleepover, everyone has returned to what they were doing before: chatting in their blankets and looking at some more magazines. Everyone that is, except for the main girls, who are in their own corner by the entryway, on the floor in blankets. Rikki hands the necklace back to Emma.]

Emma: "Miriam's got some nerve taking this."

"She sure does," Lisa huffs to Emma's surprise.

Cleo: nods to the other group. "Should we tell everyone?"

Rikki: "No point, like she said, it's my word against hers." Emma holds it up.

"It's ok. We believe you," Elliot says, looking over to his sister's friend. Rikki gives him a small smile. "Thanks, Elliot."

Cleo: sighs. "We should join the party." Emma nods.

Rikki: shifts uncomfortably. "I'm thinking not." Plays with her sleeping back. "It's not really my scene." Emma smiles at her.

"The fact that you stayed there so long surprised me," Terry admits.

"Using my own words now, huh," Emma jokes.

Girl 4: they look at Emma who looks at the group. "Hey, Emma, which guy on the swimming team has got the cutest legs?"

Emma: "Umm, Sam." She shrugs. The others ooh.

Rikki: "No way. Joshua, hotty." Cleo and Emma smile.

Zane gets a little jealous, the thought of her thinking someone else is cute.

Girl 3: "Come on, we're building the perfect guy out of the guys on the swim team.

"That's a sleepover thing?" Annette asks Charlotte who once again just smiles and shakes her head. "It is now apparently," Sam chuckles.

Emma: "What do you reckon, Rikki? We spend our whole time talking about negative splits?"

Rikki: hesitating she nods. "There might be something normal about these chicks after all." She gets up and hops over to the other group and sits down.

"I'd never thought I would see the day you enjoy a sleepover," Terry says, completely stunned.

Emma: hands the necklace to Cleo. "This might be safer with you."

Lisa and Neil look at her in surprise. She gave it to her?

"Ah so that's how you got the necklace," Max says.

Cleo: "With me? You found it." Shakes her head.

Emma: "And I nearly managed to get it stolen. I know how much you like it. Here."

Cleo: takes it. "You sure?"

Emma: leans in. "Anyone who can hide a mermaid tail in the middle of a party, has got what it takes to look after that. Come on." Cleo smiles and they both join the other group.

"That's really nice of you, Emma," Lisa says smiling as Neil pats her on the back, making her anger completely vanish for good. For now at least.

"But, how did you get the one you have now?" Elliot asks. Emma looks over at Mrs. Chatham, who holds up one finger to her lips when no one is looking. "That's a story for another time," she sighs.

[Cleo is at work, wearing her apron and gloves, but now with a cap and her necklace. She carries the buckets of fish to the dolphin tanks when Mrs. Geddes stops her as she is walking by.]

Mrs. Geddes: clipboard in hand, she pats Cleo's shoulder. "Keep up the good work, Cleo. You're really starting to fit in around here."

Cleo: "Thanks, Mrs. Geddes."

"Yes, because carrying fish is such a hard job," Charlotte mutters.

"Well, a mermaid should be able to fit in around there," Will jokes.

[Cleo turns and walks again when she does a double-take back at the bridge, where Mrs. Chatham is looking over the water. She sets the buckets down and walks to her, the dolphins chattering around her. Mrs. Chatham turns to her and smiles as she stands next to her.]

"You again?" Don questions. "What's up with you?" Denman asks.

Mrs. Chatham: looks at her necklace, stunned. "You found it. In the pool, didn't you? On Mako Island?" Cleo grabs it and looks down at it.

Denman gasps as the realization hits her. "You were there before, weren't you?" she whispers. She doesn't get a reply, just a small smile in return.

"Was it yours?" asks Harrison. "No."

Mrs. Chatham: touching the necklace, she moves closer and looks at her. "That's where Gracie lost it, fifty years ago."

"Fifty?!" Elliot yells in shock. "How old are you?" Kim asks, making Bev hit her lightly on the arm to hush her. "That's not nice to ask, Kim," she says, hiding her shock on trying to figure out who this woman is.

"So, you were there. And you know whose it is. So that means there is another mermaid, right?" Denman says to her, hoping to get an answer this time. Mrs. Chatham's smile only brightens as the marine biologist still has not figured out the whole picture.

Denman though, thinks that she was right, and tries to sum up that maybe this was the mermaid Max was talking about earlier as she looks at him. Max only laughs, knowing that she does not know the full story yet, confusing the marine biologist yet again.

The others overhearing begin to realize that maybe Denman was right. Could there possibly be another mermaid around the Gold Coast?

Gracie? She couldn't mean – no, that's impossible, Annette scoffs at the idea of her mother possibly being a mermaid. It's probably someone else. Charlotte looks at her mother confused, not even thinking about the possibility herself. They would have known, right? She would have told them, wouldn't she?

"But she didn't lose it," Max says sadly, Mrs. Chatham pats him on the shoulder.

Cleo: "So you mean you're –."

Mrs. Chatham: "I'm sixty-five years old, yes." Cleo gets even more shocked. "But I don't look any more than sixty-eight, right?"

Cleo: shakes her head. "That's not what I meant."

If you were going to say mermaid Cleo, then yes, yes I was, Mrs. Chatham thinks, giggling. "She was around our age," Emma whispers.

Mrs. Chatham: hand on Cleo's shoulder, she smiles. "I know what you mean, even if you don't. what's your name again?"

Cleo: nods. "Cleo."

"You never asked me the first time," Cleo mutters.

"Don't tell a stranger your name," Don warns, worried about his little girl. "She's not a stranger, dad, she's a friend."

Mrs. Chatham: "You've got spirit, Cleo. Enjoy it, enjoy it all you can. You and your friends. Maybe, you'll be alright." She touches the necklace one more time. "Enjoy." She walks away.

"What do you mean?" Sam asks, completely confused as the rest of the ones who don't know her. She doesn't get an answer, only a shrug as a response, causing the former to sigh in frustration.

"How did she know about you two even though she didn't meet you yet?" Lewis asks. "Who knows at this point," Rikki says.

Cleo: calls out to her. "Wait, don't go." Mrs. Chatham walks off the bridge and turns to look at her once more, but she continues walking. "What do you mean?" She continues watching her walk away from view.

"Yeah, what did you mean?" Ash says, asking this time. "All will be revealed within time," she sighs happily, enjoying this little waiting game. The others begin to get confused, but try to shrug it off, hoping that they will get to see what she means soon enough as everything else gets revealed to them. Don picks up the remote and pressed play again.
