Chapter 13: Something Fishy (part 1)
[Lewis and Emma pull the boat up the shore, away from the water, on Mako Island. Done pulling it up, they turn around and look at the beautiful scenery and life of the island and put their hands on their hips.]
Lewis: "So, this is the place that turned you into a fish."
"Well, if you put it that way, yeah," Ash chuckles, along with the others. "Don't you mean a mermaid?" Bella asks, seemingly a little offended by the joke. "Same thing," Lewis shrugs, earning a nudge in the ribs from Cleo.
Emma: looks at him. "A mermaid, Lewis?" She smiles and looks back to the island.
Lewis: "Yeah, that's what I meant."
"Sure it was," Emma rolls her eyes jokingly.
Lewis: "I don't know. I just expected something a little more club med." She starts walking toward the path to the woods. Lewis slaps a bug on his neck and grabs his bag and chest and follows her.
"There's more to it than it looks," Mrs. Chatham announces, earning her some curious looks.
[Further into the island, they walk up a hill near a familiar creek that she passed once before, as they stop for a second when Lewis looks at his compass. Emma points ahead to the volcano in the distance, making Lewis look up at it.]
Emma: "See that volcano? The caves are up there."
Lewis: "What? Way up there."
"That's a pretty long walk," Terry says. "No wonder it took you girls so long to get home the first time," Lisa says.
Emma: "I want to find out how this happened. That takes hard work Lewis. Come on." They start walking on the path again.
"You were really determined," Charlotte says. "We want to know too," Elliot says curiously, speaking for the others.
If you wanted to know so badly, I could have helped, Denman narrows her eyes, feeling a little angry.
[They make it to the rocky area near the waterfall.]
Emma: "The entrance is down there near the waterfall. I can't get any closer or I'll –."
Lewis: "I know, the whole beached whale."
"Were you trying to annoy her?" Zane asks. "Maybe a little."
Emma: looks at him. "Mermaid, Lewis."
Lewis: "Yes, that is what I meant. So how do you get in?"
Emma: hands on her hip, they stop by the waterfall. "Swim. There's an underwater entrance."
Lewis: "Swim?" Points behind him. "So the hike was optional. I could've swum?"
"For your built, it isn't," Will says honestly. "Hey!"
Emma: "Fifty meters, without coming up for air?"
"It didn't seem that deep," Will says, widening his eyes; surprised they were able to go so far down.
Lewis: "Right. Point taken. Air is good." Emma begins climbing the rocks, getting closer to the waterfall.
"Very smart, Lewis," Denman chuckles sarcastically. "Seems you need more of it," Rikki mutters.
Lewis: "Anyway, it's better that I discover the pool the same way you did. It's much more scientific that way."
"How is that scientific?" Sam asks. "The point of view of it all," Lewis says, surprising Denman.
Emma: "Just be careful that you don't fall."
Lewis: holds his hand up as he takes a step forward. "Emma, please I am a scientist. I know exactly what I am doing." Once he spoke, he falls into the same hole that Cleo did a few weeks before, along with his stuff. "Whoa. Oh."
Emma: walks over to the hole and bends down for him to hear. "I'll meet you down there." She smiles and runs off.
"You're a teenager that's still in high school," Max says, reminding him of when he first discovered it, as he thought the same thing.
[She swims past two dolphins as she goes through the entrance and pops her head up, leaning on the ledge. Lewis walks in at the same time, looking around the place in amazement with a flashlight. He looks up at the cone of the volcano, where it shows a daylight view.]
Lewis: "Wow."
"Are those the same dolphins from before?" asks Kim. "Yep." "How can you tell?" Charlotte asks. "I guess you could say we have some sort of connection, a type of communication," Emma shrugs, not sure how to explain it. Charlotte looks at her, surprised that she could easily get along with something so scary.
Emma: "Pretty cool huh?" Lewis walks further into the cave. "So, where do we start?"
Lewis: still looking around, he puts his chest down then points around the area. "First I'd like to map out the space and then get some rock and some water samples and test it. Something in this environment triggered your transformation." He walks forward and continues talking. "And if I can figure out what that something was, then I can figure out how you got your tail." He bends down next to her, still looking around with the light. "And then start asking why."
Denman froze in shock. Now realizing that she was doing it the other way around; she was doing the why first instead. She looks over to him, knowing that he was smart to test the surroundings first instead of going straight for the girls. "He's a smart one," Max says, watching Denman figure it out. "Yes, he is," Denman hesitantly whispers.
Max watches in amazement, reminded about how he first started off. He can only hope that Lewis doesn't scare his Gracie off either.
[At the café, Cleo and Rikki are sitting at a table, the latter holding a flier for a pageant.]
Rikki: looks at it grossed. "The Miss Sea Queen Pageant. How sexist can you get? What kind of moron would enter something like this?"
"I could make a few guesses," Zane says.
Kim looks at the screen in embarrassment, knowing exactly what this day is now. "Oh no." "Oh yes," Cleo says, smiling. "Well, at least we can figure out how this whole mess of a week got screwed up in the first place," Rikki chuckles, confusing everyone else, except for the ones in the knowing of it who chuckle along in agreement.
Miriam: walks up with Tiffany and snatches the flier out of her hand. She looks at it then at her. "You're not thinking of entering the Miss Sea Queen Pageant."
"Called it," Zane grins; Rikki lets a small smile slip on her face.
Rikki: "I'd rather drop dead."
Miriam: "You're just jealous because I'm entering."
"If you did, it would be the day pigs fly," Terry says. "Or the day mermaids exist," Will jokes.
"How is that jealousy?" Rikki says.
Miriam: turns to Cleo. "Oh and if you're thinking of entering Cleo, a word of advice, don't bother." Cleo shifts uncomfortably as Miriam and Tiffany walk over to the counter.
Rikki: "That's two. And Cleo wouldn't be interested in prancing across a stage in a clingy dress."
"But you did," Lewis says. "Exactly," Cleo says, feeling brave for a second.
Miriam: "It's a costume actually." She turns to the counter.
Tiffany: "With a sea motif." Rikki looks like she wants to laugh.
"No different than a regular pageant," Rikki says.
Miriam: "I've always had an affinity with the sea."
"Yeah right," Zane snorts. "Not as much as a mermaid," Will mutters.
Cleo: wide-eyed, she shouts. "You? That's a joke. I'm the one with the affinity. I'm a –." Rikki kicks her under the table. She turns back to whisper. "Ow." Rikki gives her a 'shut up' look and shakes her head as Cleo quiets down feeling bummed.
Her family sighs, surprised at how she was able to handle the secret for so long. "Good at keeping secrets?" Kim mimics. "Guess not," Bella says.
[Bev is at home vacuuming the living room when Kim walks through the front door, calling for her.]
Kim: "Mom, have you seen Cleo?"
Bev: turns off the vacuum and leans on it, facing her. "I think she went out."
Kim: "She's never home anymore."
"Wow Kim, it sounds like you care," Cleo teases. "Not really," Kim smirks, getting over her embarrassment for the moment.
Bev: "I'm sure she'd make time for you if you wanted to play with her."
"Play? Mom, I think she's too old for that," Cleo says. "For once, I agree," Kim says, holding a hand up.
Kim: disgusted. "Play with her? No way. I just wanted to borrow a belt." Kim runs upstairs as Bev turns the vacuum on again, watching her leave.
"Quit borrowing my stuff!" Cleo shouts as Kim laughs.
[Up in Cleo's room, Kim searches through her closet, then through her drawers until she finds a book with Cleo's name on it and opens it up.]
"You little rat!" Cleo says. "Lock your doors and drawers and we won't have this problem," Kim says. Don sighs. "Here we go again. The peace has finally ended."
Kim: "My secret life." She smiles and sits down on Cleo's bed as she turns the pages. It reveals all the information of her mermaid powers and tail, along with other stuff; however, it's all written in code. She looks at it strangely as she turns more pages. "This is weird." She turns the page once more and then her eyes widen with shock.
"Is that your diary?" Sam points out. "Yes," Cleo sighs. "Why would you write that in a diary?" Neil asks. "It's meant to be private! And I needed to release it somewhere. It's hard keeping it a secret. Especially from her," Cleo spats out, angry about what her sister did.
You two are just alike Cleo, Charlotte chuckles, remembering when Cleo went through her diary. Tossing away her thought she looks over to Cleo. "I have to admit, that's some really good artwork, really good details in the drawing." "Uh, thanks," Cleo says, surprised that she got a compliment from her. "What? It's true. An artist knows good work when she sees one," Charlotte shrugs when she sees her mother's look of shock.
Should have gone for the diary instead, Denman sighs.
[At the marine park during a show, Cleo is working at the ice-cream stand when Miriam and Tiffany walk up, not paying attention to who she is.]
Miriam: "Give me your most expensive low-fat ice cream." She looks up and sees her. "Oh, it's you."
"It's an ice cream stand, not a frozen yogurt shop," Cleo scoffs.
"Why are you not feeding the dolphins?" Will asks. "Different shift."
Cleo: "Flavors?"
Miriam: "Oh you choose. I'm feeling spontaneous and ultra-confident." She looks at Tiffany then back at her. "I've finished the preparations for the competition. I have a costume that's to die for."
Tiffany: "To die for." Cleo looks down, getting her order.
"Did she, or did she pay someone to?" asked Ash. "Most likely the second one," Zane says.
Miriam: "And I've seen a list of contestants. Not on my level."
Probably because they're on a higher level, personality-wise, Rikki thinks.
Cleo: "What about Tiffany?" They look at the girl in question.
Miriam: "Oh yeah. You'll get runner up." They look back at Cleo.
"Seriously, how are they still friends?" Will asks. "No one knows," Emma sighs.
Miriam: "But the rest, wallflowers, kind of like you."
Cleo scowls at being called that.
[Miriam hands her the money and Cleo gives her the 'low-fat' ice cream. Her boss walks up when Miriam goes away.]
Mrs. Geddes: "Hi Cleo darling. We're short staffed for the Miss Sea Queen Pageant. Can you do nine to four?"
Cleo: hesitates before responding. "Actually, I can't work that day. I'd like to help, but I've decided to enter the pageant." She smiles.
Mrs. Geddes: "Oh lovely."
"You entered because of her?" Rikki asks disgusted. "I felt bad for the other girls, even Tiffany. Someone needed to fight back," Cleo shrugs, impressing the other two. "At the last second though? How did you get a costume done so quick?" Annette asks. "My mom helped me."
[Bev is ironing clothes in the kitchen when Kim walks in. She stops ironing.]
Kim: "Mom, do you think Cleo has been acting a bit different lately? Like, like she might be in some kind of cult or something?"
Kim reddens with embarrassment from the laughter filling the room. "You thought I was in a cult?" Cleo laughs, tears filling in her eyes from laughing so hard. "Well, I knew you were up to something weird," Kim spats. "All that stuff was written in codes!"
"So, you had no idea what she was?" Will asks. "Not yet."
Bev: laughs. "Do you even know what a cult is Kim?"
Kim: looks away, then back. "No. but I do know that it makes people do weird things." Bev gives her a look, then Cleo walks in the door. Kim watches her.
"You did act strange for a bit," Lewis admits. "See?" Kim points out. "Because of the secret," Cleo defends.
Cleo: "Good mom. Glad you're home." Kim stares at her, arms crossed. Cleo walks closer into the living room and leans onto the counter. "This doesn't involve you Kim, so scram." Kim walks out of the kitchen.
"That just makes it more suspicious," Bella says.
Cleo: "Mom, you know how you always wanted to teach me how to sew?" Kim listens in behind the kitchen wall. "Well now would be a really good time." Bev raises her eyebrows as Kim walks up the stairs reading the diary in full view. "Like not right now. I've got fish that need me, but later on." Bev thinks as Cleo smiles and walks to the stairs.
"See what I mean, that request was weird," Kim says, trying to prove her wrong. "I needed to make a costume for the pageant!" Cleo shouts. "But what about the fish?" "My pet fish. I needed to clean their tank," she explains.
[In the hallway, Kim puts a glass cup to Cleo's door and puts her ear to it, trying to listen in. Inside Cleo's room, she smiles as she raises her hand up, wearing gloves, and uses her power to cause her fish to float in a bubble of water near the ceiling. The fish are still swimming in the bubble while Cleo cleans the tank.]
The crowd gasp, shocked by her new unique way of being able to clean the tank. "That's an easier way to clean it," Harrison comments. "Then why the gloves?" Zane asks. "So I won't get my hands dirty, duh."
Her powers are so useful, Bella thinks, a tad jealous.
"So you can keep things floating inside it?" Denman asks curiously. "I guess. I mean the fish were fine," Cleo shrugs.
"Why didn't I just lookup? I would've known then!" Kim pouts. "You did have it figured out though," Elliot says. "Yeah, later."
[After not hearing anything, Kim puts the glass down on the hallway table and knocks on Cleo's door before entering. Cleo glances at the door and up as Kim walks in seeing her cleaning the tank.]
Kim: "Why are you always shutting your door?"
Cleo: "To keep you out. Did I say come in?" Looks at her.
"No, you did not," Kim grins.
"Again, with not locking doors?" Emma sighs.
Kim: smiles. "Well, why do you need to keep me out?"
Cleo: "Because you're annoying. Goodbye."
"And you still are," Cleo mumbles.
"What's with all the questions?" Don asks. "Was just trying to find out what she was hiding," Kim shrugs.
Kim: about to leave when she notices the empty fish tank. "What did you do with your fish?"
Cleo: glances up. "They're in the bath." She nods as Kim goes to check the tub. She opens the tub curtain and finds that it was empty as Cleo smiles at the floating fish. Kim walks back into the room to find that the fish was back in the tank. Confused, she walks closer. Cleo bends down to clean the tank.
Kim: "How did you do that? There's nothing in the bath."
"Easy, I just lowered it back down when you weren't looking," Cleo smirks, glad to outsmart her sister a little. "Your control over your powers is getting better," Mrs. Chatham says.
Cleo: she looks up at Kim. "Did I say bath? I mean bucket." Kim squints, looking back to the tub and tank, then leaves. Cleo lets out a breath and shakes her head as Kim looks back before walking out the door.
"So has her lying," Max says.
[Kim is reading intently on the couch in the living room. She looks to be reading a science book but hidden in front of the pages is the diary, showing more pictures of the mermaids and the moon cycle. Cleo is doing homework at the dining table while Bev cleans it.]
Emma and Rikki's eyes widen at the pages that were open and turn to the brunette. "Cleo, you knew about the full moon, before we figured it out?" Emma whispers. "Why didn't you tell us? That would've been valuable information to know so we didn't run around like werewolves!" Rikki quietly scolds. "I knew that it had to have turned us, but I didn't know it would affect us," she whispers back.
She was on the right path for the moon, Bella thinks, seeing the picture also.
Bev: walks to the kitchen and sees Kim reading on the couch. "What are you reading?"
Kim: she glances up and hesitates. "Something for school."
"Don't lie to me next time Kim. You're lucky you were already punished for that day," Bev warns. Kim rolls her eyes, a little annoyed that whatever brought them here decided she should join too.
Bev: "Must be good."
Kim: "It's very educational."
"More like very informative of my private life!" Cleo yells again. "Don't put it in easy-to-find places next time!" Kim yells back. "Will you two quit going back over this again?!" Don huffs, quieting the two.
Bev nods and walks back to the table. She starts wiping it off but accidentally hits Cleo's drink that was next to her in the process and knocks some water out of the glass and onto Cleo's hand. Cleo gasps in terror and runs into the living room past Kim, who follows her as Bev watches.
Bev: "It's only water darling."
"Yes, water that can change my form in an instant," Cleo sarcastically says. "Now, this is how I found out," Kim informs the others as they start paying closer attention to the screen.
I should have checked that book while they were gone, Bev thinks, wondering what would have happened if she did.
[Cleo runs upstairs to the bathroom door. She checks behind her quickly as she opens the door and slams it once she is inside, accidentally causing it to open back up and she transforms, falling onto the floor groaning, right as Kim comes up and sees her tail as the door closes again. Kim stood there, frozen, then runs off.]
"So, Cleo, if you would've shut the door, none of that mess that week would have happened," Rikki sums it up. "What mess?" Annette asks. "Oh, trust me, you'll see," Rikki chuckles.
"So, because you saw her tail, you finally figured it out?" Will asks. "And you couldn't from the diary?" Ash asks. "Once again, it was in code, I couldn't understand it," Kim sighs. "I thought you didn't know until the reveal earlier," Harrison asks. "It's complicated. Basically, they convinced us otherwise, or more like tricked us," Kim says.
"At least you found out the easy way," Elliot mutters, rubbing his shoulder, still remembering the 'ice attack'.
"Glad I don't have siblings," Rikki says. "Me too," Bella smiles.
"Why did you run off?" Lewis asks curiously. "Wouldn't you be scared?" Kim waves to the screen. Cleo froze. She, she was scared of it? Of me?
[At the Gilbert's house, someone knocks and rings the doorbell frantically. Emma goes to answer the door. When she opens it, Kim slowly walks in, glancing at her several times as they walk to the living room.]
Kim: "Oh. I came to see Elliot."
[The rest of the Gilbert family are at the dining table playing a cards game.]
Elliot: they look at her. "What for?"
"What did you go to their house for?" Don asks confused. "I told him," Kim says as if it were obvious.
Kim: "To tell you something."
Emma: gets the idea. "I'm just going to go clean my room." She leaves to go upstairs.
Lisa: turns to Neil. "We'll come and help you." He nods and they get up to follow her, she looks at them as they leave.
"Well, at least they had some privacy to talk, instead of invading it," Charlotte teases.
[Elliot gets up from his seat at the dining room table and walks over to the living room. They sit down on the couch as she hands him the diary.]
Kim: "Here, read this, Cleo's diary."
"You gave him her diary?!" Bev yells. "Kim, diaries have personal information in them," Don tells her. "Well, maybe she should hi –," but Bev cuts her off. "Kim, it's one thing to read your sister's diary, but it's another to give it to someone else. You're grounded for a month." "What?!" she yells. "She's right. When this is over, that is," Don says. Kim huffs. Why? She's not around anymore! So why does she still get to act like she can boss me around?
Elliot: "I'm not reading someone else's diary."
"Good job, Elliot," Neil says. "At least he knows privacy." "Don't compliment him yet," Kim smirks.
Kim: "It's for your own protection."
Elliot: "It's private."
Kim: "Listen, I have reason to believe that my sister, your sister, and possibly Rikki are mermaids."
"A reason to believe? You saw it," Bella says. "I needed more proof," Kim explains.
"Possibly?" Rikki asks, confused. "You don't seem like the mermaid type," Kim shrugs. "Fair enough."
Kim: nods to the diary. "Read it."
[Elliot opens the diary and sees the drawings and the codes. He turns the pages.]
"Elliot!" Lisa gasps, horrified that her son would do that. "Well, looks like Kim isn't the only one grounded now after this," Neil announces. "But dad!" Elliot says. "You invaded Cleo's privacy. Grounded."
Elliot: looks at her. "It's in code."
Kim: waves to it. "So? It's all there."
Elliot: looks at it again, squinting, then looks back at her. "It doesn't make any sense."
"It does when you see it for yourself," Max whispers.
Kim: leans over and starts turning the pages. "But look at this, and this, and this. They're mermaids."
Elliot: "They could be doodles. I like to doodle." He shifts uncomfortably.
"Me too," Charlotte admits proudly, glad that there are others who enjoy art.
Kim: "Elliot, I saw Cleo in our bathroom with a tail. I know it might sound crazy. but if I'm right, they even have weird powers over water."
"You're on the right track so far," Rikki grins, knowing that she lets it fall somewhere.
"It did sound crazy," Elliot admits.
[Emma walks into the kitchen and Kim gives her a weird look.]
Emma: "Don't mind me. I'm just getting a drink." She opens the fridge and Elliot turns around to look at her.
"You just went downstairs to snoop, didn't you?" Sam says, raising an eyebrow. "They told me to," Emma says, pointing to her parents who quickly looks away.
Kim: "She's a freak. What's she going to drink huh? Can't be water. She can't touch the stuff."
The girls flinch at the word. 'Freak,' was one thing they did not want to be called. One thing they do not want to be thought of. They let out a breath as they try to remember that this was in the past. That the others do not think of them like that now. That they are okay with who they are. Who they truly are. Kim turns to them with a look of guilt on her face. "I'm sorry Emma, to all of you actually. That was just the fear talking." "It's okay, Kim. We understand. And besides, we know it's in the past," Emma says, although she was a little upset, brightens up a little since the younger one had apologized to them. She does not know about the other two, especially Rikki, but she can forgive her.
She laughs as another thought comes up. "And to answer your question from up there," she points to the screen, "we have our ways around it." Kim giggles at the change of subject.
[Emma opens the fridge, grabs a bottle of water, and opens the lid. She grabs a straw out of the jar on the counter and puts it in the water. Smiling, she turns around and goes back upstairs.]
"A straw? But Cleo drank it normally," Ash says. "And look where it got her," Emma replies, making him chuckle.
Elliot: gives Kim a look. "You were saying."
Kim: "She's smart. She drinks out of a bottle with a straw. So she doesn't get water on her skin."
"Still on the right track," Rikki says, waiting for it to go downhill.
"I'll take that as a compliment," Emma grins, forgetting about the earlier comment.
Elliot: hands her the diary back. "I think you should leave now."
Kim: "You have got to believe me."
Elliot: "You see that's the thing, I don't." They get up from the couch and walk to the door.
"Why didn't you?" Lewis asks. "Would you?" Elliot raises an eyebrow. Lewis hesitates, thinking it over before he shrugs. "Good point."
Kim: "Oh, but listen please."
Elliot: at the door. "See you at school."
Kim: "Elliot, if you don't open your eyes and wake up to what's going on, you're going to be their first victim."
Elliot: pushes her out the door. "See you at school." He shuts the door and locks it, then walks away.
"Victim?" Denman asks, leaning forward in her seat. "She thought we were evil," Cleo says plainly, a mixture of worry and anger about her sister resting in her mind. "Oh," Denman replies, relaxing a bit.
"Ultimately I was the first victim," Elliot chuckles. "What do you mean?" Emma asks, confused, making his parents get worried. "You'll see," Elliot says smiling.
[Later that night, Emma is in her robe standing out in the hallway of the bathroom, waiting for her turn. She knocks on the door, where Elliot was inside taking a shower.]
Emma: "Elliot, hurry up."
Elliot: "I'll be out in a minute."
Emma: "You've been in there for twenty minutes. There'll be no hot water left."
"Which sucks since I don't have the heating ability," Emma pouts, Rikki chuckles.
[Elliot laughs and starts taking his time with it. Emma sighs and puts her hand against the door frame, not realizing she was using her powers. The shower begins to pour ice instead of hot water, all over Elliot.]
Elliot: "Hey." The ice starts increasing. "Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow." He tries turning the knob, but it does not help. Finally, he gets out of the shower.
"Yikes," Zane winces, knowing that had to hurt. "So that's what you meant by first victim," Neil says, feeling bad that his son had to go through that.
Emma gasps in shock, covering her mouth with her hand, and looks over at her brother. "I am so sorry Elliot. I didn't know! You're my brother. I would never want to hurt you." "It's alright. And I could tell you didn't know, now," Elliot laughs, forgiving her as she smiles. Yet you tried to hurt me earlier, Zane thinks.
[He opens the door, going past Emma as she drops her hand, in his robe, freezing cold and shaking. He runs down the hallway before stopping to stare at her with a terrified look in his eyes, then runs off again. Emma turns back to the bathroom confused and looks inside. She shrugs and enters.]
Emma feels bad for scaring her brother, not meaning to do so. She looks over to Cleo, who nods to her, knowing exactly what she is thinking. Knowing exactly what she is feeling. They did not want their siblings to be scared. They did not want them to be afraid of them, or what they might do.
"You see, that didn't help with the case either Emma. You two just had to screw up" Rikki comments, having no clue what is running through their minds right now. Emma glares at her, confusing Rikki as to why. "Does surfing ring a bell?" she whispers. Rikki opens her mouth but closes it, knowing that it won't help.
[While she is in the tub, Elliot is downstairs making a phone call to the Sertori's house. He is now in his normal clothes, still looking scared.]
Elliot: "Kim, you were right about everything." He looks around afraid.
"Well not everything," Rikki says. "Yeah, we're not dangerous or evil," Cleo states, Kim rolls her eyes. They are never going to get over this, are they?
[The next day, they meet up at the marine park and walk together.]
Elliot: "One minute, I'm having a normal shower and the next thing I know it's hailing."
Kim: "Ok calm down. We have to figure out how to handle this properly."
Rikki scoffs. "Exposing us was not properly!"
Elliot: "Maybe we should talk to them." They walk onto a wooden walkway.
Kim: "Talk? Are you insane."
Elliot: "Well I was taught to resolve conflict with communication."
"That's usually the best way to solve anything," Neil tells them, Lisa and Emma nodding along. "Maybe they would've told us then," Elliot suggests to Kim. She shrugs in reply. "Maybe."
"Talking to us would've been better than what you did," Cleo mutters.
Kim: she turns to him, placing her arms on the railing. "Communication is for humans. They're not human." Elliot puts his hands on the railing. "They're like witches, vampires. They can't be reasoned with. They have to be stopped."
"Okay everyone, before you get it in your head that we're not. We are. Still. Human," Rikki announces to everyone as they turn to them; she stands up. "Sure, we might be half, now I guess you could say, but just because we grow tails and have magical powers doesn't mean we don't feel emotions or can't talk or anything else. We just cannot touch water. That's it. We're not witches, we're not vampires. Just mermaids. But are still human." She sits back down and sighs.
They absorb her words as they turn back around, staying quiet as to not anger her again, understanding that they are just the same as them; mostly. Kim blushes, feeling a little bad about how she spoke on-screen as if they were some sort of monsters. She knows they are not now, but why did she think such idiotic things back then? She shakes her head trying to get rid of the thoughts. However, she is not the only one feeling guilty. Denman who's face turns pale at Rikki's speech, did not think about that. That just because they grow tails does not mean they weren't still human. Everything she has done to them was a horrible thing to do, no matter what they were, they should still be treated like people, not some lab experiment. I've got a lot of thinking to do, she sighs before looking over to the mermaids, and maybe an apology as well after all this.
"Your probably closer to witches than vampires," Lewis whispers. "Not helping," Emma says through gritted teeth.
Elliot: "How?"
Kim: "They take their true form when they're wet. I say we expose them." She turns around, leaning against the railing, smiling.
"You tried to expose your sister? Your own family?" Bella asks, horrified at the idea of a family member doing that to them. Or to even her. "Another reason why we tried to keep it a secret," Rikki mentions, causing Kim to lower herself in her seat, feeling even worse about the whole situation.
