How should I start this? Well, to start, let's have a little background. About 5-6 years ago, I wrote a fanfiction that put my "self-insert" into the story of RWBY. It was a time before we had Salem and the Brother gods. I was young, hormonal, sad, and craved love. So I made that silly little fic to cope instead of being a normal person. I spent more than I'd care to admit on fanart, cried myself to sleep on numerous occasions over this stupid show.
I have since (mostly) grown out of that obsession I had with Ruby/RWBY. But the desire to continue my fanfiction has returned. Now, from what I've been told, self-insert characters that put themselves on the main team are VERY common and groaned upon. So I get it, I'm cringe. Instead of becoming a better person and making my OWN story. I'm about to double down and make it even MORE cringe and crazy. And not just my own OC, I'm adding Kirby into the mix. Why Kirby, you ask? Because he's cute and awesome. That's why, bite me.
To add a little substance before we start in Volume 3. Here's some things about Bléu that will fill in the gaps from volumes 1 and 2. I will write out some little story bits to add some life to her story. This chapter will act like a prologue for Volume 3.
In my previous story, Ruby was considered a last-minute addition, and a special silver chess piece was made to compensate for that. Bléu was the one who picked it instead. I remember seeing that idea in an undertale crossover rwby fic where sans was on his own team. I couldn't tell you the name of it, though.
The new students were getting launched from the hill. Jaune was at the end of the line, with Bléu right after him. "No. You will be falling." Said Ozpin as he watched the other students get launched into the air.
"I see and… did you hand out parachutes or-"
"Vomit boy!" Jaune looked over at Bléu, who was pointing behind him. He turned around, and his heart sank. "Oh noOOOOOooo…" He shouted as he got launched off into the air.
A few seconds pass, and Bléu's catapult doesn't launch her. Her silver eyes turn bright blue as she stops it from launching her. She walks over to Ozpin. "Cameras of the forest, right? Don't mind me. I'm just using everything I have at my disposal." She smirks and taps Ozpin's tablet Scroll to give herself the same permissions on her own scroll.
"Miss Greann!" Ozpin stops Glynda as Bléu runs back to her catapult and pulls out a black Gravity Dust crystal. She uses her semblance a third time to add the gravity Dust to the catapult, launching herself much further than the rest of her peers. Using this little hack, Bléu knew exactly where to land and grabbed the unique chess piece first. This lets her choose which team she wants to be on, and of course, she chooses RWBY because she's got the gay crush on Ruby.
Things go pretty much normally as far as Volume 1 goes. The only other thing worthy of note is that Bléu finds out that Penny is a robot as soon as RWBBY meets her. Technomancy Semblance makes things pretty convenient in the world of RWBY.
Which is WHY I'm not writing out all of Volume 2. She can basically oneshot the mech that Roman uses against team RWBY. It's a prototype, and all of Team RWBBY would simply focus on getting Bléu on top of it. Idk. Maybe they could recover the mech itself and net them some brownie points for RWBBY? Roman would still get away with Neo because I wouldn't have him get caught there like a chump.
Now the DANCE. Truthfully, Bléu could prevent The Fall from happening altogether if she found the virus that Cinder implants. I could even make the story rocket off into an entirely different direction with this. BUT that's far too much work for me to just make a new story when I've got plenty to work with already.
Obviously, Bléu doesn't find Cinder's computer virus. There's a chance that I might make oneshot story of the dance. Not only to explain how Bléu doesn't fix everything, but also to show how Ruby and Bléu finally kiss and become a couple.
Just a minor detail. But in the food fight scene, she would use lobster claws since she uses the double clawshots from Legend of Zelda as her weapons (And don't tell me they wouldn't have that in a school cafeteria. Weiss pulls out a goddamn SWORDFISH) (and she also uses Mega Busters from Mega Man as her weapon's gun form).
Now for the shadowing Oobleck mission. The reason I initially planned on having Bléu become a Huntress was that she was forced into it. Honestly, I think I'll stick with that reasoning. She doesn't WANT to become a Huntress. She'd rather be a weapon designer like her father in Atlas. Her mother instead forced her to train and become a fighter. And of course, Oobleck would suggest being a teacher or some other method to use her mind to improve the world, just like he does.
Now, with the extra person on the train, Bléu would absolutely be able to make it to the head of the train. But fuck that. By the time she gets there, the train is moving too fast for her to stop it. Coco is cool and I won't take that one cool scene away from her.
Now that handles it for the mainline show. How about the side stories? RWBBY chibi could be fun. But I'd have to either sit down and make completely new skits, or just draw some myself. I don't really have any desire to do that though. So we probably won't get much chibi Bléu content.
I don't know how correct I am about this, but I'm pretty sure "Blazblue Cross tag battle" takes place entirely within a digital world. So let's be funny and say that Bléu's semblance makes her… virtually a virtual Goddess. She becomes omnipotent in that world and instantly foils the bad guy's plan (i don't remember shit from it, but I remember having fun playing it)
I do have plans for including story elements from "Grimm Eclipse" I like the villain in it, and I think the content from that game could add some extra fun stuff to the main story.
Now I understand I'm making a few promises here, I'm not 100% sure I'll follow through, this is just what I plan on doing for the story going forward. Whether it be soon, or in another 5-6 years
Seeing as we're only at a thousand words now, I guess we can get started with RWBY Volume 3… with Kirby and an extra B
A Good Luck Charm
In the vast reaches of space, a tiny little ship flew across the stars. The yellow star-shaped vehicle held the tiny Star Warrior, Kirby. The little pink puffball smiled as he snoozed the days away. Space was nice, if a little lonely; Kirby cuddled up in his seat as he got into a more comfortable position.
Suddenly, a loud siren began wailing as a flash of red appeared on several screens around the tiny ball of pink puffiness. He jumps and wakes up, looking around to see all the red alerts blaring. "Poyo?"
The pink puffball gasped when he saw the planet Remnant. It's not as glamorous as Pop Star, but Kirby saw beauty in the planet all the same. The screen in front of him indicated that he was about to make a crash landing. "Poyo?" Not being able to read, he shrugged it off… That's weird, it was starting to get warm.
Amity Colosseum
Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Bléu, and Yang were all excited for the upcoming festival. Things have been peaceful since team RWBBY's mission with the train and finally locking up Roman Torchwick. All felt right in the world. All except… One obstacle in the path of our heroines.
"What do you mean we can't all fight together?!" Ruby shouted at the woman behind the registration desk. Since they had five people on a team, one of them would have to drop out of the tournament. Refusal meant the immediate disqualification of their team.
"Sis, don't yell at the poor lady, she's just doing her job." The blonde brawler grabbed her sister by the hood and dragged her away. "Sorry about that, we just need to have a quick team meeting."
The five girls get out of line and huddle up to the side. Bléu is the first to speak up. "Well girls, I think it's best if I sacrifice my place on the team. You're all better fighters than me."
"Oh no you don't!" Weiss snaps at the blue haired teen. "You've been slacking on your training lately. I won't allow a student from Atlas to simply give up like that. You're fighting." Bléu pouts and stuffs her hand in her hoodie and sulks.
"Rubes, I hate to say this. But you are the youngest. You might be at a disadvantage here." Yang puts her hands behind her back.
"No way am I missing out on this! I want to see all the weapons up close!" Ruby joins her girlfriend in the pouting.
Blake sees a golden opportunity for her friends. The cat Faunus has nothing to prove, not to herself and definitely not to anyone else. "I… think I'll pass on the tournament." Everyone turns to Blake as she says this. "After the White Fang, Roman Torchwick. I think I'm tired of fighting for a while."
"I guess that makes sense…" Bléu stated. She knew that Blake had been through hell and back since even before she joined Beacon. "Fine, I'll fight."
"Yay! I get to fight with my pretty girlfriend!" Ruby bursts into rose petals and suddenly appears on the Bléuberry's back, giving a kiss on her cheek.
"Ack! Rubles!" Bléu's face blushed from the kiss and holding Ruby up. "You're not as light as you look, you know!" She pouted and anime tears streamed down her face. Physically speaking, she was the weakest out of the group.
Yang gave a hearty laugh as she watched her sister being silly. The blonde beauty had a pretty good relationship with Bléu. Yang was Bléu's first friend at Beacon, and they quickly bonded over their mutual love for bad puns and comedian fathers. So the youngest couple in Beacon had her full support.
Weiss turns back over to Blake. "Are you sure about this? I'd rather not have to fight with two dolts instead of one." Her words were cold, but Blake knew that she didn't really mean that.
"Yes. Like I said, I think I just want to relax and enjoy the festival."
"You, enjoying yourself? That's a new one. I guess we have been a good influence on you." Yang said with a smirk. "We'll win this for you, Blake."
Blake smiled and nodded as they got back to the end of the line. With their Faunus friend at their backs, the remaining four girls were determined to make her proud.
Meanwhile, Kirby was squeezing his way out of his crashed ship. Just in time too. It was suddenly crushed by a massive Goliath Grimm. Its trumpet blared out in a mighty roar as it shook off the debris from Kirby's smashed ship. The little ball sweatdropped as his ship was destroyed. He yelled out as he panicked that his Warp Star might be damaged. Once the elephant Grimm steps away, the little Star Warrior quickly rummages through the wreckage with no luck. Kirby began to panic, and that caused the massive Grimm to turn around and blow its horn again, sensing his anguish.
"Poyo!" He whined as he saw the Goliath getting ready to attack. The elephant Grimm ran back to where Kirby was and kicked him. "YYYYAAAAaaaaa…." The little ball of love got LAUNCHED in the direction of Vale.
After they got registered, team RWBBY decided to get some food before they had their first match. But, the randomization process had other plans, they were up first! "But… but my ribs!" A single tear shed from Bléu's eye as they got the notification on their Scrolls, Ruby consoled her new partner and patted her on the back. "They only make one batch a year! They'll be gone before our match finishes!"
Weiss rolled her eyes and scoffed, "Come on, let's go before Oobleck bites our heads off." The four girls parted ways with their cat friend and made their way to the Amity Colosseum.
Meanwhile at the Crow Bar
Qrow Branwen was drinking at the first bar he found when he got to Vale. He ordered his drink and noticed that the tournament was about to start. They were running the randomization process for who would go first. "And our first match of the tournament will be… Team RWBBY versus… Team ABRN" said Professor Port, exclaiming proudly.
Oobleck perked up, "Ah yes. Starting off with a unique case. Vale's very own Team RWBBY has five members. As you all know, most teams are composed of four students! Due to this special set of circumstances, they of course had to leave a member out so that they could be allowed to participate."
"I wonder how they'll cope with this loss." Port bellowed. "Will they find themselves lacking because of that missing member? Or are they just as competent as their opponents? I hear that ABRN's members are all exceptional in their own right!" Port looked to the side and muttered to himself. "For the most part…"
"Five members? I wonder how that's allowed." The bartender tries to make small talk with the alcoholic Huntsman. But it's only met with a grunt. Qrow takes another sip from his drink and keeps his eyes glued to the screen. He saw both of his nieces, and two young girls from Atlas. He smiled when Ruby and Yang walked onto the arena. "Oh? I see a smile there. You must know one of them, huh?" The bartender picked up a glass and started cleaning it.
As the crowd cheered for both teams, both RWBY and ABRN waved to their new adoring fans. The announcers began reviewing the rules of the tournament and their bracket system.
"Hmph. Yeah." The stubborn Huntsman finally relented. "The blonde and the redhead are my nieces." The alcohol hadn't set in yet, the bad luck charm didn't mind some small talk before the fights started.
"Ah, well I don't have any chips for any of the students this year, my cousin just graduated last-" With another sip of whiskey, the bartender's words faded out as Qrow focused on Ruby and Yang's fight. He couldn't help but be interested in how his family was doing.
"And with that out of the way, let us begin with the Vytal Festival Tournament! 3… 2… 1…" Both teams got their weapons ready, anticipation was high, and the crowd was ready for some action. "BEGIN!"
Yes, I'm doing a variant of Kirby that's close to Kirby Right Back At Ya. I love that anime, you should love that anime. If you don't, go watch it, it's really good and wholesome.
The reason Kirby lands on Pop Star in the anime is because his ship detects a monster that DDD ordered. When you have a PLANET filled with monsters like the Grimm, that'll definitely catch the attention of Kirby's ship. With the benefit of assumptions, one could say that Salem has more Grimm stationed near Vale than any other major city since they're getting ready to invade.
And just to clarify, Pop Star does not exist in this version. Kirby WILL be staying on Remnant and treat it like his home. I'm not sure how much of Kirby lore I'll bring into the story, but it basically brings in free real estate as far as villains go. And with my plans, we might need them to keep the story interesting later down the line.
As far as removing Blake from the tournament. It's a sacrifice that must be made. She doesn't contribute as much as Bléu will. Now if you know me at all, you know that I hate Blake with a fiery passion in later Volumes. Her character gets absolutely manhandled. Now, I will be a fair and Just writer. I don't intend on just bashing her at every turn (as much as I want to). BUT I will do my best to what I would consider making her a good character consistently after volume 5. Her character is just annoying to watch once it hits volume 6
As I said in my Sonic crossover fic, I will not be buying any commission comics from random people. I have my own artists that I get art from. BUT! I will accept any fanart you guys want to draw. Just post them wherever under the tag #GreannRoseReturns and let me know on Twitter or Discord! Check me out on other platforms under the name "JigglyLily". I'm the pink goth slime girl.
Please let me know how you guys feel about this story. Leave a review, and I'll accept any criticism with open arms. I'll reply in the next chapter.
