C28: Leaving For School.
Everyone stood in the living-room, with Aiden, Gary and Devin standing at the bottom of the stairs-dressed for the cold outdoors, ready for school, with Max standing by Aiden on the right. After the family had finished breakfast, the adults sent the kids upstairs to their rooms to get ready for school. Once they were fully dressed, they came back downstairs and...here they were, ready to go. Even though they didn't want to.
"Let's have another look at those hands." Bonnie said.
Aiden, Gary and Devin held out their hands, showing them to Bonnie and the other adults, presenting them as clean.
"They're fine. Good, good. Clean as a whistle." Steffy said.
"Spic and span." Hope added.
"Mom...you think they'll like us?" Aiden asked. It wasn't like this was his first time going to school, he had been going since he was 5 years old. But he had never been to the school in this town and wondered if the kids there were just as nice as back home in Mississippi.
"What kind of question is that? Of course they'll like you. You just be friendly and mind your manners." Bonnie said.
"Speaking as someone who grew up here in this town, i, for one, can honestly say from first hand experience that they most definitely will like you." James assured. Although he wasn't so certain of that himself. This may have been his home-town, but he also understood that everything about it was different now. The name was different, the town was different. And even though he hadn't enteracted with any of them yet, he had a feeling the people here had changed too.
"There, ya see? Nothing to worry about. Now, let us have a better look at you. Turn around." Bonnie said.
The boys did as they were told and turned around in a circle-with Max doing the same, making Bonnie, Steffy and Hope smile.
"You boys are growing up so fast." Steffy said.
"I know, right? It seems like only yesterday they were just babies." Hope added.
"Did you all brush your teeth, wash your faces, brush your hair and rinse with mouth-wash?" Bonnie asked.
"Yes, ma'am." Aiden, Gary and Devin answered together in unison.
"Well, you're fresh and clean...and you're starting school here in this town. That's the important thing." Bonnie said, smiling.
The 80s TV came on, getting everyone's attention and revealing Snowmella on screen, sitting at a desk like a News anchor-woman, arms resting on the desk.
"Good morning, visitors of Snowville. I am Snowmella, the mayor of the town. Today marks the 16th of December-2024. That means only eight days left until Christmas. That being said, we have an after school event scheduled for your children and you known as the 'Snowvillation' and a huge big celebration to be had this afternoon, both hosted by the governor and myself. Our amazing governor, Ebonisa Scroogeman, would like to thank you all for coming to spend the holidays here with us, and is always looking out for our best interest. Have a pleasant stay here in Snowville...and Merry Christmas to all of you."
The TV then shut off.
"Well, that's weird." Bonnie said.
"I know. Since when can TVs turn themselves on and off?" Hope added.
A loud hiss then came from outside, followed by a loud honk noise.
"Your ride." Steffy said to the boys before everyone went over to the front door where she opened it, allowing the boys to exit the cabin.
Outside, the boys stared wide-eyed at the school bus in front of them. It didn't look bad or anything, but it didn't look real either. It looked like one of those miniature school buses, only in life-size form. The vehicle was a village school bus, with a male driver inside who was wearing winter clothing.
"Well, there's the bus. Looks like everybody's all set for school." James said. "Now, no dawdling. We don't want you to be late on your first day, alright?"
Aiden, Gary and Devin made their way over to the bus, stopping at the double-doors, followed them opening with a hiss.
"Be good, boys." Hope said before the boys turned to her and the other adults.
"We will, Mommy." Devin said.
"Alright, on your way, have a good time." Thomas said.
"Bye, Mom. Goodbye, Dad." Aiden said. "Bye, Max."
Max barked, saying goodbye to Aiden.
"And remember...don't think of it as going to learn...think of it as-"
"A chance to meet new people and make new friends. We know, we know." Aiden, Gray and Devin said. They then boarded the bus and it's doors closed, followed by the vehicle backing up with a hiss, turning around and driving off.
"A lot of goodbyes for someone who's gonna be home for dinner." James joked.
"(Scoffs)." Bonnie scoffed, smiling.
Max then started running after the bus.
"Ahahaha!" James said as he ran out of the house and picked up Max in his arms. "Hey, hold it, little fella." He said. "You can't go to school, you're a dog. He said as he turned and walked back over to the open doorway, re-joining the rest of the family. "There they go." He said, smiling with the others as they watched the school bus drive out of sight with Aiden, Gary and Devin.
