Chapter 215: The Sister Troubled By Her Naughty Brother

Time passes...

Makabe Satsuki had come to the Mouri Detective Agency to request Mouri to investigate who had been pasting malicious rumor notes on her apartment door.

After staking out at Satsuki's apartment, Mouri eventually caught the culprit; Makabe Yuto, Satsuki's younger brother.

Satsuki, instead of reporting Yuto to the police, settled the matter with a written oath from Yuto, promising that he would not bother his sister again.

Several days later...

"The victim was this apartment's resident, Doba Ryoichi, 27 years old." Takagi reported to the arriving Inspector Megure.

"He was killed around noon today." Ami added. "And the murder weapon is..." she turned to look at the bloodied knife bagged as evidence.

"The room was ransacked, but we found no cash." Takagi stated. "So, it looks like a financing motivated crime, but..."

"Is there something that seems off?" Inspector Megure asked.

"Doba was living a life of leisure off his parents' wealth." Chiba stepped in. "As we thought, he has a terrible reputation. A lot of people resented him."

"So, it's possible the robbery-murder was a decoy, and he was killed out of spite." Inspector Megure reasoned.

"I'll have to get the body to autopsy to determine which strike is the killing blow." Ami informed, prepping her team to move out.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Satsuki's fiancé, Tateishi Kensuke, was killed by Doba in a car crash three years ago. However, because of the high-end lawyer Doba hired, he was let off with a slap on the wrist.

Satsuki then provided an alibi for herself for the previous day; she was in Ochibadai.

However, when Takagi and Chiba visited Yuto, he refuted his sister's alibi, stating that he had been in his apartment the entire day.

The next day...

Mouri and Conan coincidentally met up with Takagi and Chiba at the entrance of the Ochibadai Station, all four detectives were investigating the same case.

Later, Mouri went to the Rinkai Police Station to inform Inspector Megure and the others about his reasoning, leaving Conan in the Detective Agency where Conan tried to piece the facts together. Realizing he was missing a connecting puzzle piece, he took off to locate Yuto on the Turbo Engine Skateboard.

After getting the debt collectors' contact information from Yuto, Conan finally pieced together what had happened and gathered the involved parties together.

"You're saying I killed Doba for my sister and she lied about her alibi to protect me?" Yuto echoed in disbelief.

"That's exactly what..." Mouri declared, only to be cut off when Conan tranquilized him. "What I just described is what the true culprit wanted us to believe." using the Voice-Changing Bowtie, Conan took over. "What I'm about to explain is the actual truth. Makabe Yuto hasn't told a single lie, Inspector. The day of the murder, he was in his apartment all day. He had nothing to do with Doba Ryoichi's murder. Meanwhile, the detectives were unable to verify the sister, Satsuki's alibi, even after walking all over Ochibadai. Of course you couldn't; she never went to Ochibadai. Matabe Satsuki, you were in Doba's apartment, killing him. And you tried to frame your brother, Yuto. With her phony act, she made us believe the siblings got along, despite being at odds, leading me to make that deduction."

"That's a ridiculous thing to say without proof." Satsuki snorted.

"You made the anonymous call to the police, didn't you?" Conan pressed. "It was a calculated choice. If Doba was killed, naturally, you'd be a suspect. So you deliberately cast suspicion on yourself, so we'd quickly arrive at the conclusion that your brother killed him for you. I had Conan confirm something earlier."

"I told you, I just happened to be at my apartment all day that day." Yuto insisted. "Because the debt collectors suddenly showed up. I had to hide and pretend I wasn't home."

"As a result, you couldn't verify her alibi." Conan concluded.

"They found my new address when I hadn't told anyone about it." Yuto panicked.

"It wasn't a coincidence." Conan corrected. "They received a phone tip. It was you, wasn't it, Satsuki? You're the only one who knows Yuto's new address. You had him write that oath to get it."

"I couldn't frame him if he had an alibi, after all." Satsuki confessed. "A month ago, I happened to see him. I learned what the man who took my fiancé from me three years ago was like. I wanted to kill him. But I couldn't. I'd never get away with it. That's when the slanderous fliers went up. When I learned that my brother was responsible, I got the idea. I could use Yuto to get away with murder. I kill Doba Ryoichi with these hands."

That weekend...

"It's cases like this that makes me feel lucky I'm an only child." Ami remarked, biting into a piece of French Onion Chicken Skillet she and Amuro baked together.

"Relatable." Amuro agreed, swallowing a spoonful of garlic butter rice.
