Marty went over the tripwire and knocked on the door. Edna came out the window again.

"What!" She shouted.

"It's me again, your old friend!" Marty stated.

Edna asked, "How do I know you?"

Marty answered, "We spent the day together!"

Edna questioned, "We did? Where?"

Marty stated, "At the Expo!"

Edna replied, "That's crazy! I've been here all…what day is it?"

Doc responded, "Tuesday, October 13, 1931."

Edna repeated the date, "Something funny about that date… Well, what are you here for?"

Marty told her, "Listen, lady. You've gotta tell us where Hill Valley went."

Edna commented, "Hill Valley? You're standing in Hill Valley! Population 1!"

Marty asked, "You know there's supposed to be a town here today…right?"

Edna answered, "Might be there was a town once, long ago, or might be it was in the future. How many times I gotta tell you, I don't talk about any time but today!"

Marty stated, "Come on, Miss Strickland!"

"Miss who?" She asked.

"Strickland. You're Edna Strickland." He answered.

She told him, "Take a look at the mailbox, sonny. Name's Pickford - Mary Pickford. And it has been for as long as I care to remember! And like I told you, I don't care to remember!"

Marty protested, "See that car over there! You stole that from Carl Sagan and you time-jumped into the past!"

Edna replied, "Me? Steal a car!? You've got a lot of nerve, sonny! Everyone in this town knows that Mary Pickford's the most law-abiding citizen that Hill Valley's ever had! And I don't give a fig about the past!"

Marty shouted, "I brought something for you!"

Edna asked, "What is it? Let me see."

Marty turned to Doc and told her, "I brought you…him!"

Edna stated, "Him? Who him? Him who?"

Marty instructed, "Look hard, don't tell me you don't recognize your own boyfriend?"

Edna repeated, "My boyfriend…?"

Marty confirmed, "Yeah! He's um…all grown up."

Edna replied, "Hmm, come closer, fella…"

Doc started to ask, "Marty, what am I supposed to…?"

Marty interrupted, "Trust me, Doc. Just go with it."

Doc went a bit closer to Edna. He looked up at Edna, smiling at her.

She gasped, "It can't be…Emmett?"

Doc confirmed, "Yes, Edna…it's me."

She stared at him for a few minutes before she finally commented, "It is! It's October 13, 1931! Oh, you are Emmett! Emmett…how did I get so turned around…? Have I been dreaming or…? Stay there."

She closed the window.

Doc whispered, "It's a classic case of Repressed Memory Syndrome! Once the mental dam is broken, the subject is immediately plunged into the midst of the very scenes she's trying to forget!"

Edna came out of the house and turned to Doc, "Darling! You've come back!" Marty stepped to the side as Edna walked over to Doc, "Of course I knew you would. An intelligent boy like you wouldn't be one to throw away true love all because of a silly quarrel. I've already forgotten about last night's little tiff. I trust you've done the same?"

Doc said, "Of course I have…"

Edna replied, "Of course I have…what?"

Doc responded, "Er shnookums."

Edna giggled, "You're so sweet!" She placed her hands on Doc's chest, making him uncomfortable. She turned to Marty and stated, "But you're still keeping company with this Smirnov character! I insist you drop him! He's a bad influence! And you've got to stop working on that dangerous Electrokinetic whatsis!"

Doc agreed, "Um…okay…"

Edna backed off on him as she added, "Hm. I suppose now you're miffed with me for forcing Detective Baines to close your booth down. Bitter medicine for you, I know…but I had to do it! And Baines had no choice but to obey my orders! He knows that my opinion carries a lot of weight in Hill Valley, and Baines would never…augh!"

That's when she kneeled down to the ground.

Doc asked, "What is it?"

Edna admitted, "I don't know…! Something about Detective Baines… Something that happened to me on October 13th…what could it be…?"

Doc brought Marty off to the side, "Can you jog her memory? If we can keep her mind in the past, we may get the full story of Hill Valley's premature destruction!"

Marty brought out the tape recorder and pressed the button. That's when the recording played.

Edna jumped, "No! Turn that off that imbecile! If Baines hears that, he'll…" She turned to the nearby cactus and put her hands above her head. She added, "Officer! I can explain! It was a trick! I was framed! Aaa…he's after me!" She went into the other De Lorean that was burnt out. She stated, "Ha! He'll never catch me in this souped-up car of the future! Curses, I can't shake him! Well, no use in holding back now…let's see what this baby can do! Aanndd here it comes…"

Doc insisted, "Yes…?"

Marty asked, "Here what comes?"

Edna answered, "I, er, I don't know. Something really unexpected is supposed to happen right about now, but I'm not sure what. Come to think of it, how can I be expecting something unexpected? …hmm…what's going on?"

Doc turned to Marty, "Quick, Marty! We've got to find a way to push the story along before she snaps out of her reverie!"

Marty pushed on the tripwire, making it look like when the De Lorean did a time jump.

Edna commented, "Here they come! The lights! I'm being transported…"

Doc asked, "Where…?"

Edna answered, "Back! Back…to the past!"

Doc questioned, "What do you see?"

Edna explained, "Hill Valley! But it's all different! It's so small…and primitive…" She turned to the cactus and gasped, "Heavens! Can it be…? It is!"

Doc said, "Is what?"

Edna stated, "Grandfather! Big as life!"

Doc told Marty, "Marshall James Strickland. Came into Hill Valley in 1869, shot by…"

Marty finished, "I know, Doc. We met him in 1885, remember?"

Edna shook her head, "No…I must be mistaken. Grandfather didn't look like that. That man is an imposter! I'm not even sure it's a man! This is all very confusing…where am I? Why am I thinking about the past? Get off my lawn, you kids!"

Doc stated, "Better find a way to bring back Marshall Strickland, quick! We've got to bring this story to a climax!"

Marty got Edna's hat that she had left on the pole and put it on the cactus. Edna frowned, knowing that her grandfather was a bit shaggy. Marty then took the mop head (which had broke off the mop) and put it on the cactus.

Edna commented, "Ah, grandfather! How well you look! How well everything looks!"

Doc asked, "How does everything look? Tell me…"

Edna answered, "It's a bit rustic, to be sure, but all the buildings are so sturdy and well-kept! And the young people of Hill Valley! They're so virtuous and upright…" She looked at Marty in that moment, "…so unlike the degenerate specimens from the twentieth century. And I know the reason why."

"Why?" Both Doc and Marty asked.

Edna explained, "They haven't yet fallen prey to the vices of booze and debauchery! They are still in a state of innocence. I think I could learn to like living here!" That's when she gasped, "But who's this?"

"Who?" Doc and Marty asked again.

Edna stated, "This big lout swaggering up the street, lips curled in an insolent sneer! He's a newcomer to Hill Valley. Beauregard… Beauregard…"

Marty helped, "Tannen."
