Today marks exactly one year since I since I bit the bullet, risked my status in the wizarding world, and posted the introduction to this story. In that time, I've amassed 44 followers and 39 favourites, and all I can say is THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your support really means a lot to me, and especially to the select few of you who have been following since the very beginning, you are legends! Well, everyone who supports me is, but they in particular deserve a special mention! Maits18, Chiku11 and tamarayann97, respect honestly, love you to bits! Here's to the future, the only way is up!
"WHAT! Seriously?! That's brilliant-" I began
"Shhh! Keep it down, it's not public info yet" Demelza interrupted me "Amy got the letter from Amelia Bones this morning. The trial will be on March 15th. It'll be announced tomorrow"
Before either of us could say anything else though, a cheer erupted as Cedric and Cho emerged, one minute outside the hour.
"What did he do to breath underwater?" I asked "Incidentally, how did they all do it?"
"I don't know about Harry" said Demelza "but Cedric and Delacour used the Bubble Head Charm-"
"How the fuck did we not find that in any of the library books?"
Demelza nibbled her lower lip
"That's a good point actually. I can only assume the judges wanted it to be more difficult to work out, so had the books referring to it and other underwater breathing methods removed. That would certainly explain why you couldn't find it"
"Alright, what about Krum then?"
"He tried to transfigure himself into a shark, but, well" she started laughing
"What?"
"It didn't exactly work properly, so he looks quite ridiculous, you'll see in a minute"
Sure enough, when Krum emerged with Proudclough a few minutes later, he did look ridiculous! He had his human legs and feet but the torso and head of a shark, which he quickly undid with his wand. Shortly after that, the Merpeople bought Delacour's sister up to the surface, and deposited her at the bank before heading back to the lake floor. The judges held a discussion about how to distribute the marks, and in that time, I moved over to Harry.
"So how did you do it then? Breath underwater?" I said
"Oh, I used Gillyweed, but I didn't even find out myself!"
"What?"
"I fell asleep in the library last night, and was only woken up 10 minutes before the task started, it was Dobby, he gave me the Gillyweed!"
"Dobby?"
"Yeah, I know, just when you think you've seen it all with that elf..." he trailed off, and at that moment Dumbledore made an announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached our decision. Fleur Delacour, though she demonstrated excellent use of the Bubble-Head Charm, was attacked by grindylows as she approached her goal, and failed to retrieve her hostage. We award her twenty-five points."
Applause from the stands.
"Harry Potter used Gillyweed to great effect, was the first to return with his hostage, and the only one to do so within the time limit of an hour. We therefore award him the maximum fifty points"
A huge cheer erupted from the majority of the stands.
"You're in the clear lead now mate!" enthused Ron, thumping Harry on the back "it's really yours to lose!"
"Cedric Diggory, who also used the Bubble-Head Charm, was second to return with his hostage, though he returned one minute outside the time limit of an hour." Enormous cheers from the Hufflepuffs in the crowd; Cho gave Cedric a glowing look. "We therefore award him forty-seven points"
"Viktor Krum used an incomplete form of Transfiguration, which was nevertheless effective, and was second to return with his hostage. We award him forty points."
Karkaroff clapped particularly hard, looking very superior.
"The third and final task will take place at dusk on the twenty fourth of June," continued Dumbledore. "The champions will be notified of what is coming precisely one month beforehand. Thank you all for your support"
The next day, some of us were sitting outside together. Everyone in the school had been talking non stop about not just the second task, but the 2 Daily Prophet articles, one being about Harry, Hermione and I, and the other, this morning's, about the capture of Ludo Bagman. He had been found hiding in an abandoned warehouse just east of Leicester. Forgetting to put up protective enchantments had been his downfall.
"You may as well read that article about you now mate" said Demelza. I still had it in my robes pocket, and had been putting off reading it I'll admit. Harry, Hermione and I had been teased non stop all day. I unfolded it and read alongside them.
HARRY POTTER TOYS WITH GIRLS AFFECTIONS
The picture that had been taken of Harry and I in Madam Puddifoots was accompanied by the following:
"It seems that Harry Potter, aged 12, ("14 for fuck's sake" Harry muttered") cannot stop himself from doing whatever he can to stay in the limelight, writes Rita Skeeter, Special Correspondent. Already being world famous for beating You-Know-Who and surviving the killing curse as a baby, that achievement, it seems, isn't enough for young Harry.
He already entered this year's Triwizard Tournament despite being underage ("I fucking didn't!" snapped Harry") and now, he clearly wants to revel in controversy, as we can exclusively reveal that he has been seeing MULTIPLE girls! Hermione Granger, his girlfriend, was spotted angrily storming through Hogsmeade, no doubt as a result of the scene above, in which Mr Potter is in Madam Puddifoot's teashop with none other than Ginevera (Ginny!" I said fiercely) Weasley, the younger sister of his best friend Ronald. No doubt tensions are stirring among his friends following these incidents! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more!"
"Honestly!" I said, ripping the article up into multiple pieces, "how the fuck does anyone believe this shit!"
"I know!" Hermione said "yeah, I was storming through Hogsmeade, but only because I ran into her and she insulted me!"
"And anyone who knows me knows that the last thing I'd ever be is unfaithful!" said Harry
"The sheep just lap it up though" Amy commented
"I've noticed since starting here that 95 percent of people in this school are" added Magda, "It's not like this in Sweden. We are generally much more sceptical people"
"Sweden's just a better country overall mate" said Ron "in both the magical and muggle world's, the quality of living over there is so much higher. Why did you even move here in the first place?"
"My mother is English. I have said it before, she wanted to move home"
"Anyway" said Demelza "at least we have something positive to talk about. Ludo's capture. The trial is next month, it's time for us to put a good strong case together"
"I think we already have that" Amy said "all of us witnessed what Ludo did, apart from you Magda, and even if the word of teenagers isn't enough, we have Mr Weasley and Percy to back us up. Hell, even Mr Crouch probably could if he was well enough"
"He was sneaking around the castle at 1am only recently, so he surely would be. I'll owl Percy" I said. Harry and I had told the others about that incident the morning after it happened.
"A little extra research into past convictions never hurts though" said Demelza
"Fine, whatever mate, you can do that if you insist" replied Amy
"Let's hope we can finally get justice for the twins" said Hermione
