The alley was a battlefield of shadows and tension, the Hero Killer Stain standing tall with his bloodied blades gleaming under the pale moonlight. Iida stood frozen, his face contorted with rage and guilt, unable to move as Deku and Reiko stepped between him and Stain.
"Get out of here!" Iida shouted, his voice strained. "This is my fight!"
"No, it's not!" Deku yelled back, his body crackling with the green lightning of Full Cowling. "This isn't about revenge, Iida! This is about saving lives—that's what heroes do!"
Stain tilted his head, his gaze calculating. "Hero?" he muttered, his voice cold and sharp. "You think you can protect anyone with ideals alone? Let's see if you even deserve the title."
Before Deku could react, Stain lunged forward, his speed almost impossible to track. Deku barely managed to dodge the first strike, but Stain's second blade grazed his arm. The Hero Killer grinned as the blood trickled down the blade.
"Deku!" Reiko shouted, her spectral Kitsune tails flaring behind her as she rushed forward. But before she could reach him, Deku's body stiffened, his legs giving out beneath him.
"What's… happening?" Deku gasped, his muscles locking in place. He fell to the ground, his limbs paralyzed.
Stain chuckled darkly. "My quirk, Bloodcurdle. You move, you bleed, and you stop. Simple. Effective." His crimson eyes flicked to Reiko and narrowed. "But you… you're different."
Reiko gritted her teeth, her body tensing as she planted herself between Stain and her fallen friends. "I'm not so easy to pin down," she shot back, her Kitsune energy shimmering around her.
Stain's grin widened as he approached her slowly, blade in hand. "Interesting. Let's see if you're worthy of standing against me."
Reiko glanced at Deku and Iida, her heart pounding. Both were completely immobilized, their breathing shallow as the effects of Stain's quirk took hold. She had to act, but she could already feel the strain of her quirk pressing against her limits.
Focusing her energy, Reiko directed her spectral tails toward Deku, their shimmering forms wrapping gently around his arm. She could feel the weight of Stain's quirk like a suffocating fog, resisting her every effort to break it.
"Come on, Deku," she muttered through gritted teeth, her energy flaring brighter. "You can do this. You're stronger than this!"
Deku's fingers twitched faintly, and his wide eyes met Reiko's. Her Kitsune energy surged again, and with a final burst of effort, she shattered the invisible hold binding him.
"I'm free," Deku gasped, staggering to his feet, his Full Cowling reigniting with a crackle of green lightning.
But Reiko stumbled, her energy flickering as she fell to one knee. "I-I can't free Iida," she said, her voice strained. "It's taking too much…"
Deku stood protectively in front of her, his determination blazing. "You've done enough, Reiko. I'll handle this!"
Stain's eyes lit with something close to respect as he watched Deku charge. "You're persistent," he said, his voice low. "But persistence without power is meaningless."
Deku ignored the taunt, his mind racing as he used Full Cowling to dodge Stain's attacks, each movement carefully calculated. His fists glowed with power as he countered, his strikes forcing Stain to retreat slightly.
Reiko, still kneeling, focused her remaining strength to support Deku. Her spectral tails lashed out to deflect one of Stain's blades, buying Deku a precious second to land a solid blow to the Hero Killer's chest. Stain staggered, his breath hitching as Deku's punch sent him skidding back.
"You don't understand," Deku shouted, his voice shaking with emotion. "Heroes aren't perfect, and the system isn't perfect. But we fight to protect everyone, no matter what!"
Stain's lips curled into a dark smile. "Those are strong words, boy. But words don't change the world."
Reiko's vision blurred as she watched Deku continue to push himself, his strikes becoming faster and more precise despite the fatigue weighing on him. Stain lunged again, but Deku twisted at the last moment, landing another blow that sent the Hero Killer crashing into the wall.
Before Stain could rise, a voice rang out from above. "That's enough, Hero Killer."
Endeavor, Gran Torino, and a group of pro heroes descended into the alley, their presence a wave of authority that froze Stain in place. His body trembled as his quirk began to fade, his consciousness slipping.
Reiko finally let herself collapse onto the ground, exhaustion overtaking her. Deku knelt beside her, his hands trembling as the adrenaline began to wear off.
"You… you were amazing, Reiko," Deku said, his voice soft.
She gave him a faint smile. "So were you."
As Stain was taken into custody, his final words lingered in the air. "True heroes… those who fight for all, even the unworthy… perhaps there's hope for you yet."
And as Deku helped Reiko to her feet, the weight of Stain's words settled over them like a challenge, one they were both determined to rise to.
