All Libby could see was nothing. Well, nothing apart from static at least. But then, a blue line began to dance across the screen.

The heart monitor was beating a steady rhythm, matching someone's heart in a perfect synchronisation. Maybe it was a patient having an operation or... some type of procedure done? She wasn't sure.

Her brows knitted. Okay...? What am I supposed to be listening to here?

A faint, terrified and pained groan caught her attention. What?! It felt as though somebody had shocked her heart with a defibrillator, because she knew that voice! It belonged to someone who was a big part of her life, someone who she called-!

"Dad?!"

Kyle Crane. The hero who saved Harran, cherished everyone at the Tower, taught her everything she needed to know to survive and-! And treated her like she was his own...!

She believed he had died all those months ago, and now here he was… Alive. Tortured.

His heart began to thump more faster as he gasped for air and cried out in pain. Every time he did, Libby's heartbeat quickened too.

She found herself rocking back and forth, clutching at her chest and violently trembling. Her breathing glitched, broken. Hyperventilating.

"Dad?! What is-?!" Her voice cracked. "What is this, what are the GRE doing?!"

Within seconds, an agonising yell ripped out of Kyle's lungs. His voice slowly morphing into a visceral and dark growl as the monitor went still. Flatlined…

"DAD!" A tearful Libby screamed with horror, influencing a burning fire to ignite in her heart. "NOOOHO!"

Author's Note:

Hey! Long time, no speak. I hope you're doing well?

Please forgive the lack of updates. I'm studying a part-time course at university and because of that, I've been unable to come on here as much as I used to. But now that I'm on break for Christmas, I have some free time. If anyone fancies catching up, I'll be around.

Comments are always a helpful motivator too, and I truly appreciate them. So if you like my fanfiction series, please consider dropping a kind word! You'd be making my day!

Also, how's everyone feeling about Dying Light: The Beast? I'll be honest, I'm so excited! I've missed Kyle so much! :)
