I guess it might be because I felt lonely and awkward that when she helped me out, I felt attached or grateful to her.
I should have known.
No, I had to learn.
That sometimes, just cause a person showed kindness to someone does not mean that person is kindness personified.
….
It was Monday morning.
So three quizzes and an assignment due today. And Oscar felt so tired after studying the entire weekend. He had to complete his assignments on Plants and Ecology as well as the quiz at the end of the day. It was so tiring.
But she made it all worth it.
Ruby Rose.
The shining silver eyed reaper of dark times.
Ever since he got into Remnant High, she was the kind helpful senior who always seem to know what kind of trouble he was in.
He remembered when he first met her.
During the time when he first enrolled in junior high, he was still being made fun of by his classmates for nothing except for how he came to class. He didn't even get it since he just arrived in class then without realizing that his bag was open the entire time. It was an accident but that cemented the fact that everyone thought he was dumb and could never learn.
No matter what he tried, the entire class would always think of him as that dumb guy.
It got so bad that he couldn't even finish third period before finding a quiet lonely place to sit by himself.
He didn't want to stay there. He also didn't want to go here. In fact, the only reason how he got in this school was because of his high test scores and the recommendations he got from other institutions he studied in. Granted he may have excelled there but he didn't make any lifelong friends and here, he felt even more isolated since everyone wanted to get him.
At that moment, he wanted to be back home with his aunt.
And then she came.
He didn't know how she knew but Ruby Rose, the senior in a grade above him, a student who was as smart as an engineer and someone who always seemed to be surrounded by people just as beautiful and pretty and popular as she was, was in the room with him looking over him in concern and yet also smiling as she sat just across him in that room.
He dubbed thee the lonely corner.
Apparently he wasn't the only one to use that corner as Ruby once in her junior years wanted to get away and hid in the corner as well. She had her friends to help her out and because of that, she was now helping others.
It must be nice then. Having friends.
That was what he thought when she told him her story.
So Ruby being the first friend Oscar made there and then helping him out, made him feel different. Made him feel happy and included.
And from then on, whenever Ruby was around, Oscar felt quiet happy inside as it meant that he would have something to look forward too. She was like a reaper that tore through the darkness.
His darkness.
Now back in the present, Oscar watched as Ruby sat with her group in the cafeteria. Beside her sat the prim and proper Weiss, the silent, lustrous Blake and the hot and 'heavy' Yang. And right next to Ruby was the pure Penny.
That table was full of beauties. And not just that table. There were tables were other hot babes and ladies sat nearby from the rather mean NDGO to the prim and proper Ciel and then the fashionable ones like Coco and sometimes Velvet.
The guys at Oscar's class always had a bet on who could score a 'babe' from any of these tables. Stupid ones like Ryker would always go towards NDGO and would become their 'newfound toys' or something like that. He never understood the idea of hot attractive women stepping on them.
Then there were the guys at Ruby's class, tall, handsome, popular dudes who play in both the basketball and football teams like Sun, Cardin, Ren and that dude that had nearly every girl in each grade had a crush on, Jaune.
Right now, he could see how these guys were popular, Jaune more so.
He was tall, muscular and athletic with a good head and a great team leader and decision maker as he sometimes lead the team to victory or rather make really dangerous risks during the game but sometimes it pays off. Right now though since it was the semifinals, Jaune's risky plan had succeeded when Sage had scored the goal so at least the coach was happy.
Jaune was also understanding and tried to help Oscar, although it seemed more like he was Ruby's friend beforehand. Yet Oscar never having a big brother as he was only child was grateful for the times he spent with Jaune.
Jaune being blonde and generally kind and helpful to anyone who asked plus the fact that he was friends with Cardin, Sun, Neptune the heartthrob, the silent but cool Ren, other popular dudes like Sage and Sun as well as other babes like Nora and hotties in Ruby's class made him more desirable and someone who people in class wanted to be friends with.
So this made Oscar even more wanted as his class thought of him as some sort of kid seeking attention.
Regardless, Oscar would not trade anything he had right now in his life.
The fact that he was friends with these awesome seniors rather than his class really meant something. But the way they make everything so easygoing and comfortable made him feel welcome.
"Are you in class, Mr Pine ?" came the gravelly tone of the accounting teacher.
He raised a hand to signify yes only for the teacher to repeat the question.
There amidst the sniggers and chuckles, he mumbled yes only for the teacher to repeat the question and also adding the fact that he had to raise his voice whenever he answers.
So he did.
The class laughed before they all calmed down as the teacher looked at them disappointed.
Caspian or Kas, who was somewhat better than the rest in class just moved closer to him.
"Yo, dawg. What's up ?"
Nothing. That was it.
"Nothing, Kas. Just thinking."
He twirled his pen around as he tried to focus.
Something about class was so boring even if the teacher explained it, he kept on saying the same thing over and over again thinking that the students wouldn't realize it.
It didn't matter. The ones who were interested are now disinterested and the ones who were never interested, they might as well continue sleeping in class.
As he tried to copy the numbers, Kas came over once again and said something that made Oscar pause.
"Hey there buddy. Saw something today. Been crushin on someone lately?"
Oscar however paid no mind as he continued to focus on the questions on the blackboard.
"Is it…. Ruby Rose ?"
The sudden inaction made by Oscar as his pen dropped from his hand answered the question as Oscar wished he could stop freezing whenever he thought of her.
"No! I—I don't—".
"Oh come on,man no use hiding."
Oscar then turned to face him with a sudden phase of anger.
"Woah, calm down man. I'm just saying. I mean, think of it this way." As Kas came closer. "You know, if you really like her, you should just confess to her. Tell her you want her to be your girlfriend. Make a big statement in front of everyone! Trust me, you'll look like a man in front of the whole class."
Oscar thought about it.
Ruby as his girlfriend ?
As if.
She had friends of her own.
Maybe someone in her class is already dating her or something like that.
Sure she might not have told him yet but….
He thought more about it. Right now, Ruby definitely was not dating anyone or anything like that.
She wasn't seeing anyone and well no one said anything about her in a relationship. And to be honest seeing, Ruby's red chubby cheeks and her angelic smile and her silver glowing eyes with her fav drawing 'Crescent Rose' made her seem more like a sexy reaper than anything.
He had to mentally remove that image as his mind focused on her titties and huge assets down there.
It worked but now he felt something.
Damn, teenage hormones.
No, Kas was right. Ruby was not in any relationship.
So it wouldn't hurt, right.
So he can just talk to her, huh ?
Kas continued though, "Listen, man, time's ticking. You don't want to regret it later. If you don't take the chance now, you'll always wonder what could've happened. Just think about it."
Oscar snapped towards Kas.
Yeah, he was right.
If he didn't now, he would never again.
He had to do something.
And maybe his life might get even more sweeter.
