Chapter 6
Bruce parked in the visitor parking of Tim's building, looking up at it. This place…but his son had turned it into something more, something new. Tucked on the edge of Jason's territory, it was a nice meld of modern construction and historic touches from the old theatre. He'd seen the site once, before it was complete, when Tim had asked him if it was okay. But he hadn't been back since, they mostly met up at WE or a restaurant outside of the mask. In the mask it was rooftops or the Cave, no one but his old team (probably), Cass, and possibly Jason had been to his Nest.
He headed inside and into the elevator, finding a fingerprint scanner for the Penthouse level. Wondering if he was in the system, he pressed his thumb to it, watching it light up green and then the elevator began to move up. A recent addition or could he have come by any time?
The elevator stopped and he stepped off to find a single door, taking in the subtle and well-hidden signs of bat level security. Before he could knock the door opened to reveal Tim in sweatpants and a t-shirt, feet bare. It was a surprise, it had been so long since he'd seen Tim in such casual dress, so comfortable.
"Bruce?"
"Can I come in Tim? I need to talk to you."
"About the intel I passed on to the League?"
"It's related," he offered, wondering why Tim had phrased it like that. Did he have company? He knew Tim was dating someone though he'd kept it quiet and private, somehow.
Tim hesitated but then sighed and stepped back. "Jay, B's here," he called out.
Bruce stepped inside the apartment, taking in the large open space and comfortable yet stylish furniture, the photos on the walls.
"Wasn't really planning on doing this yet but if you're here…you know, don't you?" Tim shifted a little, nervous. "Danny?" he turned, giving Bruce a better look into the apartment.
Jason was in the kitchen and nodded to him and then there were footstep on the stairs. Bruce stared as his son walked down them, except his son was right in front of him. Other than their hair, from a distance they were identical.
"Bruce, this is Danny…my twin," Tim was watching him. "He's why you're here, isn't he?"
Bruce nodded even as Danny approached, looking between them nervously.
"Danny, this is Bruce Wayne, my Dad," Tim introduced them.
"Hi," the boy offered awkwardly. He was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, also barefoot.
"Hello," Bruce returned, offering his hand, and Danny took it, shaking it. He looked at Tim. "You knew?"
Jason snorted. "Seriously B? We talking about the same Timmy here?"
Alright, Jason had a point. "You never said anything."
"I found out about Danny years ago, tracked him down…and then left it. He was with a somewhat eccentric but seemingly loving family in a safe city. By the time things started going bad in Amity Park, I'd stopped watching, too busy with Young Justice."
Bruce stared at Tim and then glanced at Danny.
"He worked it out, they're twins Bruce, not very surprising," Jason was smirking, obviously enjoying Bruce being off balance.
Danny shrugged slightly. "Giving money to the League is one thing but accessing their systems to check call logs? And Tim's fancy business suits are good but he's got muscle, plus he moves a lot like Phantom, Amity's hero. Granted, he's a ghost and Tim's not…"
It seemed that even growing up apart, the twins were vey alike mentally. "How much does he know?"
"He knows we're the Reds," Jason was definitely enjoying that.
"I, uh, could guess the rest and the way you're acting I'm pretty sure I'm right about at least one of them," Danny admitted.
Definitely a Drake. Finding out his son had a twin was a shock, as much as finding out he had a biological son. "So, you came to Tim for help with what's happening in town?"
"Um…actually I was planning to hang out of rooftops till I ran into a bat. Things back home were getting too dangerous and Jazz, my sister, wanted me safe. She knew I was adopted, had seen the paperwork and was old enough to remember that Maddie wasn't pregnant before they got me. I figured I'd find out if Tim knew about me, tell him if he didn't, find a Bat to give the info to then move on."
Tim smirked. "And that worked out so well, scared Tam half to death cause someone grabbed Danny thinking he was me and wouldn't let him get a word in edgeways. So, he ended up in my office and Tam walked in, realised immediately he wasn't me and called. She was sitting at her desk the whole time with a taser to hand."
Smart girl and she was good at bullying Tim into self-care where most of the rest of them failed. And how lucky had they been that it was Tim's twin and not some enemy created clone or shapeshifter? As much as it hurt to know Tim had kept something so important from them all, he could also understand why. Tim had been protecting his brother and his adoptive family. The more people who knew, the more danger Danny would have been in, the more chance of someone slipping up.
Danny was a minor, almost eighteen yes, but legally still a minor. But Tim was emancipated, theoretically, he could act as Danny's guardian until their birthday. And once he was eighteen, Danny would be free of his adoptive parents. If someone tried to stick their nose in, well, Bruce was still a foster parent, he could take custody on paper and Danny could just have an endless sleepover at Tim's apartment. Tim could barely come to the Manor, no way he'd let his civilian brother stay there.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Danny collapsed on the couch, exhausted. They'd done it, they'd lied to Batman! And wow, Bruce Wayne was Batman! And honestly, it did make sense.
"You okay?" Jason asked, and Danny nodded.
"He bought it, right?" he asked, just to be sure, and his 'twin' smirked.
"Completely," he sounded rather smug.
"The Robin who lies to Batman," Jason shook his head. "I never had the guts to do that."
Tim just shrugged and sat down on the other couch. "It's really not that hard, as we just proved. You just have to have everything in place first if it's a complicated lie."
"Gremlin," Jason grumbled, and Danny couldn't help smiling.
Was this…was this what family should be?
"Well, it was pretty obvious what B was thinking. If Tim can't have custody till your eighteenth, he'll foster you."
Danny looked between them, surprised. "It's only a few months now, is that necessary?"
"You don't want the local CPS trying to take you in. There's a reason Timbit hired an actor to play his pretend uncle after his Dad was killed."
Danny stared at Tim who just shrugged.
"Long story."
Gotham might just be as crazy as Amity Park.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
"So, what's going on B?" Dick asked.
"We have a mid-western town under lock down by a fake government agency. Not even Luthor was crazy enough to pass the laws necessary for them to become legitimate," Bruce answered as he passed the information out to his children.
Dick looked it over, feeling sick. "How did the League miss this?"
"Someone put a bypass into the system, despite Cyborg, Barbara, and Tim's work."
"Tt, if Drake was involved then it's no wonder the system had issues."
"It was Tim who found the issue," Bruce stated, staring at Damian. "We need to keep an eye out for people in white suits, that's what the agents wear and if they track the informant here, they'll likely come for them."
"So, send them to another Leaguer for safety?" Steph asked.
Bruce was frowning though, the frown he got when there were secrets and he was trying to decide if he should tell them. "They're staying with family, Tim and Jason are providing security at the moment."
Yeah, that wasn't the whole story but he doubted B was going to tell them more.
"The League is organising a team to send to Amity Park to deal with the GIW. Due to the data, only those who haven't died before will be able to go. There's concern that their weapons will be more affective on those who have died and that they'll be able to track them as well. That is also why Jason's on security, they'll likely be able to track him if they show up and I'd prefer them to only attack one location."
So, Jason was half bait and half guard if the informant was tracked to Gotham.
"Is the family link an obvious one?" Dick asked, wanting an idea of how likely they were to be tracked.
"It was a closed adoption so unless they have a hacker or still have access to government systems then no. And Tim was ensuring the records are as encrypted as possible. The odds of them being tracked are slim but we still need to keep a watch out. I don't want anyone being taken by surprise if they do show up. Apparently, Gotham has fairly high levels of ectoplasm already."
They all nodded and then headed for the locker rooms to change for patrol. There was definitely a lot that Bruce was leaving out, but why? Surely, they should know who the informant was to protect them if the GIW showed up? He supposed though that if B wanted Jason there…Tim was the best option for backup, somehow, those two seemed to get along pretty well now. At least, Jason never said anything about Tim living on the edge of his territory. It was a long way from where they'd started when Jason had been out for Tim's blood.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Tim stumbled downstairs to find Jason and Danny working together in the kitchen, Jason chuckling at something Danny said. That was good, right? That his brothers were getting along without him there had to be a good thing. Danny smiled at him and put a mug of coffee on the counter. "Th'ks," he yawned, picking it up to drink.
"Coffee addict," Jason teased.
He stuck his tongue out and went back to drinking, food soon placed on the counter for the three of them to share. Since they'd cooked, he cleaned up and then they settled in the living room. He had informed Tam he'd be away from the office for a while, he wanted to be at hand should anyone come looking for Danny and that was why Jason was staying too. Unless someone saw a picture of Tim and realised that they were basically identical or the Fenton's admitted to cloning him, there should be no way for them to track Danny to Gotham.
"So…any word on how quick the League's moving? Cause as lovely as the apartment is, I doubt Danny wants to be stuck in here for months."
Tim frowned slightly. "I don't know, we can check with B. He could go out as me, wear a hat to hide the different hair, or go for a full disguise."
"Honestly, I don't mind being here. The last few years have been…busy," Danny told them, wincing slightly.
A sole vigilante fighting his own parents and what he thought was the government, plus his 'godfather'… it had to be beyond stressful. So, enjoying some downtime made sense.
"Well, I've got some gaming systems, every streaming service you can think of - online access to several libraries, and there's the pool on the terrace. Plus, there's the training areas in the Nest if you want to burn some energy," Tim listed the options that came immediately to mind. He honestly didn't use any of it all that much, though he did make use of things more since he'd started dating Bernard. "And…there's someone you might like to meet?"
"Oh?" Danny asked.
"My best friend is Superboy, Kon-El," he explained, and Danny looked confused. "He's technically considered a clone. He was 'made' in a lab but from both Superman and another's DNA."
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Danny had found mentions of Superboy, two of them actually, when he'd gotten access to the news outside of Amity Park but there'd been no mention of one of them, the older he assumed given Tim's age, being a clone. And he was now going by another name to cut down on the confusion of two Superboy's probably. Though…was he really a clone if the DNA of two people was used? Wasn't that more like a test tube baby or something? But if he'd been called a clone all his life and thought of himself as one, then he was one. It wasn't Danny's place to say otherwise…unless it was being used in a self-hating manner.
And meeting a hero with powers might be nice. Tim's best friend…how would he react to the news his friend had a clone?
"Sure, why not?" he said before he could change his mind, and Tim smiled at him.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Clark put the finishing touches on the article and it was ready to go. Perry was shocked by the content, shocked and horrified. It was not the kind of thing you expected to happen in a country like America. An entire town…small city really, had been cut off, isolated and terrorised by a fake government agency, one that was risking a war with very powerful beings. Most of what they had on that side had apparently been provided by the local hero, Phantom, a ghost himself. For now, the Infinite Realms were holding back but if they stopped…Clark honestly didn't think anyone could stop them and even Phantom had been honest and said he would side with them because for the ghosts to declare war, then humanity would have had to do something very dire.
The young hero (or at least he had died young who knew how long he had existed as a ghost?) was mostly attempting to keep the peace between humans and ghosts, to keep anyone from dying or the ghost equivalent. So, whoever the informant from Amity Park was, had to be trusted by Phantom. What interested him, was that Phantom used Fenton tech but the Dr's Fenton apparently hated him. But they had a son the same physical age as Phantom and a daughter not much older. Did the children agree with their parents…or was one of them supplying Phantom with tech? He would like to meet Phantom himself and hopefully he would get the chance when they moved to deal with the GIW.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Kon landed on the terrace, in Supernova gear. It wasn't that different to what he'd worn as Superboy, it didn't need to be since Jon had followed more after Clark for his uniform. Tim had asked him to come meet someone but as Supernova which was strange. The door opened before he could knock and Tim smiled at him, that little pained crinkle beside his eyes gone for the first time in years. "Hey."
"Hey, come on in," Tim stepped back to let him in, and Kon froze as he spotted the two on the couches.
He'd been around Jason a few times over the years, had warned him what he'd do if the older man ever hurt Tim again. But the other… "Tim?" he looked between the two, no, despite the sudden lack of pain this was his Tim, the scar on his throat was well hidden but not from a Kryptonians' vision.
"Kon-El, this is Danny. I thought you'd want to meet him."
Why him…no…no way…he studied Danny, taking him in fully and realised, other than the hairstyle…they were identical. His hands balled into fists. "Who?" he growled, spinning to look Tim over for any sign of injury.
Tim's eyes widened. "I'm fine Kon. Danny was born four years after me. They took hair and skin samples at a gala when I was three, I never knew. No one kidnapped me recently or anything."
Kon relaxed at that, he hadn't missed Tim being hurt or abducted. He looked back at Danny, finding blue eyes watching him warily now. For Danny to be in Tim's apartment, Tim had to have done his research and trust that either he wasn't a threat or was one he could handle. And that was probably why Jason was there, backup. But Kon knew what it was like to be distrusted by the original, Tim knew how much it had hurt him, he wouldn't do that.
"I trust him," Tim breathed in his ear.
Kon approached and held his hand out. "Kon-El, it's nice to meet you, Danny."
Danny stood and slowly took his hand. "Never thought I'd get to meet a Kryptonian," Danny smiled and the wariness had faded to excitement. "Have you been to space?"
Kon grinned at him. "Sure. You're interested?"
"I wanted to be an astronaut before…" Danny glanced at Tim who nodded. "Before I died."
What?!

This chapter's been fighting me for a while. So it's shorter, sorry.
