"Oh! Oh!"
Hugo struggles to peel one eye open as Sofia roughly shakes the prince awake. She's stretched out beside him on the blanket, looking up. Hugo blinks up at the bright sky, trying his best to aim his gaze to where she's pointing. It's another damn cloud. Man, he thought they were done with this.
"Does that one look exactly like Clover's head, fluffy tail and all, or am I crazy?" Sofia asks, still pointing.
"You're definitely crazy," The Prince says through a yawn and instantly earns himself a smack to the shoulder. "Ow! Hey, you're the one that asked!"
The princess props up on an elbow and glares down at him. The strong urge to squish her cheeks and kiss her pouty lips is nearly overwhelming. But he resists.
"You know, the whole reason we came out here is to gaze at the clouds together," The brunette grouses.
"I am gazing." Hugo's eyelids promptly slip closed. He jolts hard when a pair of deft fingers pinch the thin skin over his ribs. "Ow! What's with you and hurting me, woman?!"
"Don't be so dramatic," Sofia playfully rolls her eyes and it's quite ridiculous that the attitude is what gets Hugo's heart thumping faster. "Now be an amazing husband and tell me what shapes you see in the sky."
As Sofia settles down again, this time with her head on his shoulder, Hugo wonders how cloud gazing for the past hour falls under the list of good husband duties. But he knows better than to question it. The prince pecks the top of Sofia's head and tucks a hand under his head, turning his attention back up at the sky.
After a brief moment of silence Hugo finally speaks up, "'Kay see that one?"
"Which one? You have to point."
Hugo click his tongue, freeing the hand pillowing his head long enough to do as she says. "That one. Looks like a leaf."
Sofia just hums, "What kind of leaf?"
"I dunno, a leaf leaf!"
"A lily pad, maybe?" The girl wonders aloud, unfazed by his tone.
"Sure. That."
Sofia turns her head to Hugo and smiles and his heart does its usual little dance it does any time she looks at him.
"What else do you see?" The princess asks, eyes twinkling.
But Hugo doesn't bother looking up at the sky again. Doesn't need its expanse of blue when the shade he loves most is right freaking here next to him.
"I see…you," The prince says quietly, earnestly, and he hears Sofia's breath hitch. And then there's a huff. And then she's giggling, open and unrestrained.
"Gosh you're always so," she says between breaths, "You're always so cheesy. And sappy and cute. It's so — it's so —" The giggling continues.
Hugo sighs, shaking his head and letting his expression shift to a deadpanned one, though one corner of his lips tugs up in a fond grin.
Eventually, Sofia's laughter fizzles out.
"You done?" Hugo asks, amused that it took so long.
"Yup!" she chirps back. Sofia leans over and their lips meet in a sweet kiss. "I like it though," she whispers. "The cheesiness. And everything else too. And I like you."
Hugo chuckles, pecking her lips a few more times. "Yeah, yeah. I like you too, Sweetpea."
