Logbook Entry #1
After a lot of nagging from Rachel, I have decided that I should start my own personal Diary , Rachel, fine! Captain's Logbook. Practice for my dyslexia, she says… I should not have mentioned that my eyes were getting better, though, for some reason, the red-headed nightmare just giggles like a loon when I insist that I can read and write properly now.
Alright, so this is our first day since we set sail, but our eighth day since arriving in this new world. To be more precise. Today is Wednesday, August 31st, 1513, though since the Pirate King's execution thirteen years ago, people have called this period of time, The Great Pirate Era.
Still, it appears the norm here is metric and standard British writing. Screw that! It's bad enough I will have to deal with that strange system with the majority of the world, I'll keep my own American standards in my logbook. Hey, maybe some archeologist a thousand years from now will find it and wonder what the heck I am talking about.
Speaking of America, I still can't fathom that I will never see New York or Manhattan ever again. Mom… I want to imagine that she was always prepared that one day I may never return from a quest but… I already miss you a lot.
Anyway, it's no use moping about it; what's done is done, and I should look on the bright side! An entire new world for us to explore, with fascinating creatures, and probably a lot of powerful foes. It's weird, I always thought that my greatest wish was to get away from all the fighting and settle down somewhere in peace. But once Calypso brought up the idea of adventure, I realized that I would never be satisfied with such a life. Perhaps my biggest gripe about quests and misadventures that I had to do over the last few years was that none of them were of my own choice!
Granted, I technically was not invited to two of them, yet I still forced myself in, but that hardly counts! They would have been utter failures without me, and I couldn't very well leave my friends to die! (Rachel says I need to tone down the big-headedness. Is that even a word?)
I think I will always crave adventure. That feeling when my blood boils in excitement when facing a powerful foe, or just discovering new places and people. If not for those quests, I would never have gone to the Smithsonian, the Gateway Arch, San Francisco, or Las Vegas!
Granted, I didn't actually have a chance to explore or enjoy those places like a proper tourist, but nothing like a fight for your life to make a place memorable.
Most importantly, being allowed to unleash wanton destruction on my foes! (Come on, Rachel! I'm just writing down my thoughts. It's not like I will actually do that). I still remember the sheer power I had as I blew up Mount Saint Helens. At the time, I felt nothing but sheer remorse at the destruction I've caused; all those people losing their homes. It's a miracle there weren't many people living close by, yet I know there were some hikers who died from the blast. Their blood is in my hands…
And Yet!
Thinking back on it now, I get the strange feeling that I enjoyed such power at the tip of my fingers. I think I've always had such thoughts, but I always buried them deep in my mind, for it would be unforgivable if I ever let loose in my home.
Perhaps in America, I would have been more wary of such thoughts, but here? Where there is no Mist to distort my actions or hide the monsters? Where apparently there are people who can bring down mountains or split islands? Yeah, I think I will grow to enjoy this place.
Then again, I think the biggest reason I will enjoy my time here would be because I have Calypso on my side. Ahhh, nothing I can put on paper could ever do her justice. Maybe when I'm more confident in writing my thoughts, I will wax poetics about how I feel about her.
Anyway, I have gone off a serious tangent. This is still a logbook, so! Events of the past few days:
1) Arrived eight days ago, on Tuesday, August 23rd, 1513. It's still freaky how close the dates are. I left Long Island on the 18th with Rachel and Tyson and arrived in Ogygia on the 20th. Four days later, we are here…freaky, I tell you. Rachel thinks the missing day was probably lost in transit or some shit.
2) After saving Prince Lionel and his knight Gwendolyn, I brought them back to Ogygia to recover. The next few days were spent helping Tyson with his projects and tearing down that dam at the end of the basin (Yes, Rachel, I will add more details later. No, Rachel, I won't stop writing you as if we are having a conversation. Why? Cuz I want to, lol. It's your fault for teaching me those phone emoji things. I never had the chance to use them. Ah, looks like she's fed up and decided to check on the others, they're stripping Lionel's ship of anything of use.)
3) Need to refit all the ship's armaments. Any Celestial Bronze weapons and ammo needed to be removed now that it's clear regular steel could kill just as well. The Cannons will remain for now since there's hardly any space. We will need to restock on gunpowder, iron, steel, and other things Tyson had listed.
4) Need to start assigning positions to the crew. For obvious reasons, I am the helmsman, the captain, and the navigator. I still think I should find a backup helmsman and navigator, especially as I'm not actually trained as one. I hardly know the eccentricities of the trade, only instinctive knowledge of navigation, which are useless here as I don't recognize any of the stars or constellations in the skies.
5) Another important position is the purser, at least according to Lionel. They are basically the accountants for the ship and are responsible for resupplying.
6) Other important positions but lower on the priority include; a cook, a medic, and a gunner though I have a feeling Rachel has that covered for now.
7) Celestial Bronze is still incredibly useful so Tyson collected everything from the bullets to the small cannons and plans to smelt them back to ingots for later use. I like the idea of keeping the stuff either secret or just for our own use.
8) Speaking of, the people of this world really are different. They could see my sword and Riptide clashed with them instead of flowing through them as it would do back home. I also noticed Celestial Bronze doesn't shine as much anymore, though it still retains all of its properties. Probably a good thing; I hate to imagine the ship glowing in the middle of the sea for those massive sea monsters to snack on.
9) Something happened with Hylla and two pirate prisoners, who ended up dead. She was supposed to watch over them but ended up killing them. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I wanted to believe that as the oldest one among us, aside from Calypso, Hylla could be relied on. They want me to be their Captain, but a good captain would need good crewmen. Hylla had proven she was not ready for responsibility. Perhaps in the future, she will prove otherwise, but for now, I will have to handle things myself.
10) Finally, we decided to set sail! We agreed to take Lionel and Gwen to their destination. Some naval base in the New World? They promised to tell us all they knew about the place, but supposedly, it's an extremely dangerous place. I think they're exaggerating though, I mean, what could possibly prove a threat to us?
11) I should probably write character entries for the people I meet. Later, and perhaps in a different book, a complement to this one.
12) Tyson's work with the water elevator was like magic! Coolest brother in the world! I haven't a frigging clue how it worked either. He installed two massive doors on the mountain's walls, made of rocks and the metal he dug; one of them is an exit, and the other is an entrance. Tyson opened the entrance and had me sail the Sally Jackson in (a piece of mom will always sail with me!). Then he closed the door, and the water level just dropped until we reached the river. Magic, I say!
13) Hylla was correct about those strange hills turning into islands. They are barren rocks but excellent natural harbors. I think they could be turned into drydocks easily.
14) Finally, we sailed around the island to where the Voyager, the prince's paddle yacht, was beached, and here I am, writing my thoughts while the rest are doing whatever.
Percy placed his pen on the desk and stretched his arms. He didn't write a lot, but it took him a long time just to put those thoughts on paper. He read the first page of the logbook and nodded in satisfaction. If it were eligible for him to read, others would surely be able to read it as well. He closed the book and stored it on a shelf before closing the desk's cover.
He reached out for the last cookie from the plate on the table beside him, only to find Rachel's empty coffee cup lying abandoned. Percy frowned as he bit into the chocolate chip cookie. He had warned the crew that everyone must clean after themselves. Living with his mother and being the only member of the Poseidon Cabin for the longest time, Percy had learned the value of always keeping a clean house. The Sally Jackson was their home now, and there was no one to clean after them.
Then he remembered Rachel's room back in Manhattan and shook his head with a groan. He grabbed the empty cup and the plate and stood up. The Captain's Quarters had not changed much, except for one of the side rooms that Calypso claimed for herself. The few times they spent the night on the ship, they slept together, cuddling in his massive bed, though they had yet to take their relationship to the next level. So many things have happened over the last few days, and Calypso was still recovering from whatever happened in transit.
Still, Percy easily allowed her access to any side rooms she desired, and Calypso took one of the larger ones to be her atelier. She brought her weaving equipment and other things there, and Percy knew she was making herself a new set of garments, something fit for sea travel.
Grinning at the thought of seeing his lover in different clothing styles, the Captain made his way out of the room and down the hallway to the kitchens.
Aside from him and the prince, who was unpacking his belongings in his room, there was no one else on the ship, for they were all on the Voyager; even Tyson was busy stripping the Seastone from that ship to be refitted on the bottom of the Sally Jackson. It won't be enough to cover the whole ship, but hopefully, by spreading them smartly they would still do an adequate job of tricking the marine life.
He made his way towards the kitchens, feeling his stomach grumble in hunger along the way. Deciding to have an early dinner, Percy placed the plate and mug in the sink, frowning when he found it full of dirty dishes. He sighed in exasperation before preheating one of the ovens and returning to the sink. Turning on the water faucet, the son of Poseidon decided this might be a good opportunity to practice his water bending.
Heh, that always cracked him up.
As he washed the dishes, Percy's mind wandered towards the so-called Sea Kings. According to Lionel, they came in many sizes, yet the smallest of them was still a monstrous hundred feet long or so, while the largest Lionel himself had seen was island-sized!
That was quite terrifying, though it also made Percy excited to meet one such beast.
He had no idea if he could talk down any of them from attacking the ship, but judging by the monsters he encountered in the Sea of Monsters, he highly doubted any marine life here would owe him any loyalty.
The random fish he talked to so far swam away in terror, screaming about him being a monster. That kinda hurt. Hopefully, the older and bigger fishes would prove better talking companions.
Just as he finished cleaning the dishes, Percy heard footsteps on the wooden flooring of the ship. Turning to the double doors, he found the prince entering with a morose look, only to quickly adopt a smile when he noticed him.
"Captain Percy! Fancy seeing you here."
"Leo, finished settling in your room?"
"Indeed, but… Leo?" Lionel looked bemused as he sat at one of the tables. "I haven't been called that in years."
"It's easier than saying Prince all the time." Percy shrugged as he willed his hands dry and moved to the freezer to grab a box of pizza; they were running dangerously low on food, for even Ogygia depended a lot on care packages from the gods back home. Calypso and her servants would occasionally butcher some sheep and other animals for their meats, as well as harvest her vegetable gardens. Still, she hoped to have them propagate on the larger island now that they had finished the tunnels.
Roxy told him that her people had asked Tyson to build them a bridge from Ogygia to one of the tunnels - and the Cyclops had finished it during his downtime. It would probably see a lot of use, as Percy doubted they would ever use the ship elevator again.
Regardless, their food stocks weren't as full as they had hoped; perhaps they should not have feasted so much as they waited for the ritual to start. Percy worried that soon, they would be forced to eat fish, of all things!
Not that he was that against it; even his father ate fish. Percy rationalized that if he could understand cows, it wouldn't stop him from eating beef - at least the fish here owed him no loyalty, for that would have been super weird. "Hungry?"
"Sure, I could eat, as long as I'm not intruding."
"Relax, man. This ship will be your home for the next few weeks." Percy opened a box of pepperoni pizza and placed it in the oven before joining him at the table. "Better get used to making yourself at home."
"I shall not be reserved then." Leo nodded genially as they waited for the pizza to finish - ten minutes to go, and he had no idea how to strike up a conversation with an older dude.
"I hope you like pizza."
"I confess to not having had it in some time. It's not a popular dish in the palace, but I fondly recall eating it when I visited the city."
Huh, so they had pizza. Percy was sure it was only about a hundred or so years old in his home.
"So, how are you settling in?"
"Great, so far, this ship is a marvel of engineering! To have lighting and plumbing in my room? And even some form of climate regulator? Remarkable!"
"Tyson will be glad to hear that. My brother is responsible for maintaining and repairing anything on the ship. If you want your sword to be checked or have armor fitted, let him know." Percy nodded to the sword on his hip, a naval officer's saber. "You're part of the crew now, and I am responsible for making sure you're combat-ready."
"Thank you, Percy. I saw Tyson installing the seastone on your ship. It was surprising to see him swimming so easily and working underwater." Leo looked hesitant for a moment. "I did not see him using any kind of breathing equipment, though I could have sworn he only had one eye."
"That's because he only has the one, and just like me, Tyson can breathe underwater and is not affected by the pressure." Percy shrugged, "You will get used to us having strange powers."
"I suppose I will, then again, even without devil fruits, there are many strange people and powers in the world." The Prince looked like he wanted to say more but decided against it. "Anyway, I look forward to setting off back to sea. I have done all I can here, and the sooner I finish my mission, the earlier I can return home."
"Oh yeah, You mentioned paying your respects to your friend, right? Did you find the grave?"
"I did," the man's strangely colored eyes glazed over for a second before recovering. "Thank you for not leaving him to the elements. Sixteen men joined me as we sailed across West Blue, all of them understanding that the populace would think we were off on some pleasure cruise sponsored by the debaucherous prince, and none survived."
The Prince scoffed as he mentioned the scheme to cause his political foes to underestimate him, or something. Percy did not really understand any of that intrigue.
Leo withdrew a medallion of sorts from his pocket and gazed at it sadly, "William had been a dear friend from the academy. At least his family will have something to remember him."
"I know how it feels to lose friends in battle." His mind wandered to the Battle of the Labyrinth a few weeks ago. "Burying them will never be easy."
"Oh? Have you already participated in battles? Forgive me for asking, but you don't look older than twenty."
"I just turned fifteen a couple of weeks ago." Percy smirked at the blonde man's flabbergasted face, "Is it so strange for someone my age to have seen combat? I would think, from what you've told us, this world is in constant strife, so child soldiers should be a normal sight."
"No, it's not that strange, but… God damn, son!" Leo suddenly exclaimed, causing him to flinch as his fists banged the table and tears flowed down his cheeks. "Claiming such a beautiful older woman at your age? Heck, having a harem of pretty girls of all ages at your beck and call? Not to mention your own pleasure ship?! Twenty-five years I've been alive, and never had I scored such luck. I'm so damned jealous!"
Percy could only grimace at the older man's over-the-top attitude; he was starting to think people here liked being overdramatic - even that giraffe assassin showboated too much.
"I don't know what a harem is, but Calypso is mine, and I am hers; It's that simple." He rubbed his brow when the prince muttered something about young love - Percy wondered how he would react to Calypso's age. "Besides, don't you have Gwen? She's pretty hot and strong. That's a solid combination if I ever saw one."
"Oh no, aside from being my personal guard, Gwen is my confidant and friend, but not my lover." The Prince suddenly dropped his act and stared at him seriously. "As a royal, I can never so whimsically take a lover, at least not when I'm old enough to wed. Doubly so, with my precarious situation."
"Huh, I thought it was the opposite. I mean, you're the heir to the throne. Who's gonna tell you what to do or not? Even I can tell that girl has a thing for you."
"If only it were that simple to do whatever you want." Leo shook his head. "Being a king comes with many responsibilities and expectations. True, I could still do whatever I wanted, even committing the most heinous of crimes would not get me into any trouble with the law. For I am Royalty, and above the law."
Percy raised an eyebrow at the audacious claim but figured there was more to it and simply waited for the Prince to continue.
"But such an attitude would quickly have me deposed as king or assassinated… most likely both. Many a king or a prince does act with such impunity while overly relying on the World Government and the Marines to prop up their regime, regardless of what heinous crimes they commit. Ilisia is not like that, for we enjoy our independence and take pride in our law and military."
"The Marines… they sound like an interesting bunch." Percy hummed, "Don't they keep the peace and protect the innocent?"
"On paper, yes they do and I will never deny how much good they do to the world. Yet the reality is that they are still the attack dogs of the World Government." Leo had a conflicted look as he discussed what basically amounted to the world police, and Percy shrugged; most likely some form of national pride or something. "Besides, we live in a world where the lowest peasant can rise up to become powerful enough to shatter mountains with his bare fists with sufficient luck. It is never a good idea to be tyrannical, for you may just sow the seeds of your own demise."
"Wise words."
"They are not mine, but rather my father's." Leo had a sad smile and a faraway look, "He always had nuggets of wisdom to spare, even when I would brush him off in favor of whatever mischief I could come up with."
"He sounds like a wise and reliable father."
"That he was…"
A somewhat awkward silence settled for a moment, but it did not last long before the oven started beeping. Glad for the distraction, Percy grabbed the piping hot pizza pie, sliced it into eight pieces, grabbed two cans of Coke from the fridge, and placed everything on the table.
"Bon-appetite."
They ate and chatted some more about anything and everything. While Leo did not give him a good first impression, Percy decided to give him a break; He himself had acted like a complete dumbass the first time he imbibed Nectar after that fight with the Minotaur. The Prince was a decent enough man and treated him like an equal despite being ten years his senior.
"This cola tastes strange." Leo grimaced when he popped the can and took a sip. "Too sweet and sticky… It also has a queer after-taste."
"Oh? You have cola here as well?"
"Yes? It's a popular drink for the masses, though it's not so sweet and chemically tasting like this." Leo still drank the can to wash down the pizza, but Percy had the impression he would not ask for another - more for him then. "Still, I must thank you for the meal. It was delicious."
"No need to flatter, bro. It's frozen pizza, and it's not supposed to be gourmet." They chuckled as they cleaned up before Percy's head twitched. "It's been a long day, but I believe we are almost ready to set out."
"Oh?"
"The rest of the crew is here. Let's go meet them on the deck."
They quickly made their way out of the kitchens and up the galley to the deck, where the girls were tying the rowboats. Leo did not have too many belongings, claiming he had to be frugal since he was short on gold; he even brought the rowboat from his old ship back here, though it was useless compared to their inflatable life rafts, yet Percy simply tied it on the deck; it did add a certain touch of immersion to have an actual rowboat on a sailing ship.
Gwen, Tyson, and the rest had taken it upon themselves to pack everything that could be used. At first, Percy thought they meant food, drink, and other perishables… He did not expect to see the small yacht stripped to its keel!
"Talk about wasting nothing," Percy whistled at the sight of neatly stacked planks, cannonballs, crates, sailcloth, and more that the crew placed on the deck. "I thought you said you would only take the seastone, Tyson?"
His brother had surfaced from the water to help the girls unload the boats and had just followed them onboard. "It's a good boat. Good materials, but the paddle system is too archaic. We might need as many materials as possible in case of repairs."
"Tyson was crucial in taking the ship apart." Calypso patted the Cyclops on the shoulder before turning to Leo. "I know you agreed, Lionel, but are you truly fine with giving the yacht a funeral?"
"I do," Percy looked at the man in surprise. Apparently, he gave them the okay to dismantle the ship. "Its keel was broken when the foolish pirates ran it into the reefs."
Percy grimaced as he recalled the ship could have been saved when he found it, but he had to hurry to rescue Leo and Gwen. When he returned the next day, the tides had changed, and the rocks had punched through parts of the hull and it was already taking water. He had to drag it further ashore to prevent it from sinking.
"It could not be recovered, regardless." Leo sighed before gritting his teeth and staring ahead determinedly. "To give it a proper farewell would be the least I could do for the men who died serving on it."
"Then, I shall give you the honor." Rachel handed him her rifle, the man taking a moment to inspect it with awed eyes before swiftly controlling himself as he stared at the beached skeleton of the ship. "It's loaded. Just aim for the red barrel, and it will go up in flames."
Leo nodded, aimed down the sight to the yacht a hundred yards away, and pulled the trigger. Contrary to what Percy thought, the barrel didn't explode but merely caught on fire which quickly spread to consume the entirety of the yacht.
A moment of silence followed as the crew watched the burning boat, and Percy took the chance to inspect his crew. Calypso was dressed in an outfit similar to Rachel's; both of them had worked on it over the past few days, and it was modeled after something the redhead had brought from New York. It was a more modern affair compared to his lover's old Greek Chiton, yet practical for seafaring. Brown leather pantaloons, a white shirt that both girls left two or three buttons loose from the top to allow their chests air to breathe, and a simple jacket; Rachel's was green, while Calypso's was blue.
Rachel also had her gun belts tied around her waist with her two revolvers and a combat knife. Calypso did not look armed, but he had seen her bow in her room; it was deceptively sized, looking no different from the bows that the Huntresses of Artemis used, yet his lover could somehow launch regular arrows at bullet speeds and cause them to explode on contact!
Shaking his head, he moved on to Hylla and Reyna. Both sisters needed a new wardrobe but did not have the opportunity to join Calypso in making new clothes. Hylla wore one of Rachel's old green T-shirts and simple jeans that stuck like a second skin over her long, toned legs and hugged her shapely behind. Reyna dressed similarly, but she preferred sneakers over her sister's steel-tipped boots.
Tyson dressed the same as always: baggy cargo pants full of tools and things that should not fit inside its many pockets and a yellow T-shirt that had more holsters and belts over his shoulder holding even more tools.
Then there was Gwen… The girl definitely embodied the knight persona with how heavily armed and armored she was. She wore a full suit of armor that looked both feminine and practical, for it covered all her body, yet Gwen also wore a red checkered skirt over her legs. Instead of a helmet, she wore a steel tiara that covered her forehead and had two swan feathers sprouting from above both of her ears. Combined with her sheathed sword and the large heater shield on her back, Gwen gave the impression that if she had to fight those assassins again, she would not lose.
They continued to stare at the burning husk of the yacht for half an hour, the spectacle somewhat captivating to watch, until it was reduced to ashes and cinders. Eventually, they had to collect and store all the things they recovered from the Voyager.
Within the hour, everything was set, and they had set sail. They were about a dozen miles away from the island when he turned to the Prince.
"Leo, you have that compass thing?"
"Here you go, Captain." The Prince handed him the Eternal Pose to the marine base, and Percy held it for a moment as his mind went blank, then suddenly he could immediately tell which heading it was pointing at without needing to check it again. Shrugging inwardly, he placed it beside the compass built next to the helm.
"We're ready to go on your call."
Percy nodded. He did not really need to control the helm, but it was a good place to group together. "Reyna? You have comms open with Roxy, correct?"
"Aye aye, Captain!" The Latina twerp chirped from her position at the radio set, "Roxy, can you hear us?"
"Loud and clear. I wish you safe journeys and a swift return."
Calypso leaned over Reyna's head to speak to the mic, "Thank you, my dear. I'll leave Ogygia, both lesser and greater islands, in your capable hands."
"…U-Understood, mistress."
If Percy could see Roxy, he wagered she was hiding her face in her cloak with a mad blush.
"Alright, our course is 30 degrees North-Northeast. Let's go!"
P*O*D
"How do you like the taste of freedom?"
It was nighttime several hours later, and Percy stood behind Calypso as they leaned on the railing of the upper deck, watching the clearest skies he had ever seen in his life. The rest of the crew were in the galley, either asleep or, in their guests' case, inspecting the entertainment room in wonderment.
The Calm Belt truly earned its name. There was absolutely no wind or a single cloud in the sky. Percy had to generate the wind to get the ship sailing - it was annoying as he had to actively work his powers to get it to work. His Father was not here to cover him, so once he had to sleep, that breeze he made would die, and the ship would only move by virtue of his will.
At least he didn't have to worry about tacking or jibing the ship. The Sally Jackson still cruised at a respectable 50 knots an hour, and they had already covered over 300 miles since they left Ogygia.
Percy had taken this chance to have some alone time with his lover. It was the first time she had ever seen any sky aside from Ogygia.
"I love it!" Calypso turned her head to kiss him, even as she ground her butt to his groin. "I love it even more that you are here, with me."
"First day of our adventure, first of many."
They continued kissing some more. Percy's hands explored her voluptuous body until they reached her breasts and he slipped his hands under her shirt to properly hold them. Calypso moaned in his mouth and her eyes smoldered with desire.
Percy's arousal was reaching the breaking point. He had abstained owing to his lover's still recovering body after depleting her powers, bringing them here through space and time. Yet now, he did not think he could hold back anymore.
"I want you," he declared once they finally separated for breath.
"How do you want me?" Breathed the sultry seductress - not a hint of hesitation in her tone.
"Naked, here, and now… so long as you have recovered enough."
"Oh, love, I've been ready for a while now."
Some primal feeling in his mind seemed to be awakening as he turned his lover to face him and ripped her shirt off, allowing those bountiful globes of flesh to be free. The light from the full moon above seemed to darken a bit, but Percy barely gave a glance at the gathering clouds before turning his attention to the sensual beauty in front of him.
Calypso yelped playfully, yet she jumped into his arms, causing him to grope her ass and kiss her neck. His kisses trailed down to her collar bones, her massive tits, and finally, her nipples.
He had no idea how to satisfy a woman, but his instincts seemed to be driving him. Percy licked and kissed her nipples, twirling his tongue on her areola, utterly entranced by her taste and smell. Then, he took her left nipple in his mouth and sucked.
"Oh, you're such a baby. My baby." Calypso giggled as she breathed into his ear. "You won't find any milk there, sweetie. I'm not like Hera who could produce milk on demand. You will have to put a few babes in me first. Would you like that?"
The mere image of his Calypso heavy with child and her tits leaking milk had him pause. On one hand, that primal part of him roared its approval; it demanded he impregnated his beautiful lover, nay, to claim all other women he desired and spread his seed far and wide in this world that had not been graced with his divine presence!
It was so easy to succumb to such a primordial need to breed, yet a small part of Percy argued that it was not the time! It definitely also approved of making love to Calypso, heck even entertaining the idea of claiming other women like some barbarian, but it would not be fair to his lover. As Percy thought deeply on the matter, that part's reasoning grew stronger. This was but the first day of many when he and his lover would go on adventures to explore this vast new world!
The wind was picking up, and the ship was darkening as if it were in the deepest depths of the ocean. The primal part of his soul raged against such logic. It demanded to take what he wanted, and now!
He easily quashed that part, and reluctantly, Percy unlatched from Calypso's nipple, giving her a deep kiss. "It's too early to have kids. You don't want to worry about children while exploring the world now, do you?"
"Fair enough," the immortal sorceress giggled before kissing him again. "Doesn't mean you aren't going to fuck my brains out, Percy Jackson. I can control my moon blood, so I want you to take me like a–"
Before he could lose control of himself over what he would do to Calypso, an earth-shattering roar caused them to flinch and jump into combat readiness. Percy turned around wildly, hurriedly withdrawing Riptide and searching for enemies.
Calypso had already redressed and had a staff in her hands that he had no idea where she hid. It was made of aged wood and topped on both sides with a blunt mace made from Celestial Bronze. She, too, looked wildly, even as a second, more guttural roar erupted from the dark sea around them. The two monstrous roars echoed each other as if calling to one another, yet Percy could not understand them; it was just that, roars of anger.
He could feel the rest of the crew waking up.
"Why is it so damn dark?"
"Percy, you need to calm down. You're causing a storm!"
The moment she mentioned it, Percy realized the dark storm clouds forming in the heavens that blocked the stars and moonlight. He closed his eyes, trying to calm his raging libido and heart beating. It was difficult, for he felt unbridled rage over whatever had stopped him from claiming what was his!
But he preserved, and eventually, the clouds dissipated somewhat, and the moonlight illuminated the Calm Belt once more.
"Oh dear."
At Calypso's worried whisper, Percy opened his eyes… and wished he hadn't as the larger than normal moon shined down upon them.
An utterly ginormous serpentine creature was howling to the heavens. So large, it had to be at least a mile high, and that was only the part visible above water! Another roar, and Percy turned to find an even more vicious-looking beast glaring murderously at the still dissipating clouds. It was as if it took extreme offense over him accidentally covering the moonlight. He tried to focus on the roars, they were clearly sea creatures, but it was still just roars of anger and… defiance?
The sound of metallic footsteps hurriedly climbing the stairs reached them before Gwen appeared from the spiral staircase leading down to the galley. "What's going on? What was that–"
She froze as she stared in shock at the monsters ahead of them. More of their crew appeared; Lionel, Rachel, Tyson, then finally Hylla and Reyna. They all stared in muted horror at the monsters before Rachel turned to him imploringly.
"Any chance we can change course?"
It was then he realized they were heading straight for the monsters. They were still dozens of miles away, and Percy immediately changed course to a 300 heading, a complete 90-degree westerly turn away from the leviathans.
Percy wondered if he could fight those monsters and win. All his combat instincts along with his experience told him that yes, he could fight them one-on-one, if they had no special powers or magic, but to achieve victory? Besides, there was no way the ship would get away unscathed.
They all remained silent as they sailed as far as possible from the monsters. Any lights on the deck were turned off. There was no need to risk dragging those leviathans' attention to them. It was already a miracle that they did not notice the ship sailing so close. That closer monster's head was so large, it could have easily swallowed the whole ship whole!
As the minutes trickled past, and they swiftly sailed away from the two monsters, sighs of relief came from his crew. Percy, however, did not let his guard down.
"Everyone, get to battle positions. There could be many more of those beasts out there. Reyna, go to my quarters and grab Calypso's bow and quiver of arrows, then make sure to turn off every light in the galley. Tyson, take Hylla and Rachel and man the front cannon. I don't care if you need to use the most destructive bomb we have, but if another of those beasts shows their ugly face, I want them turned to roast meat!"
"Aye Captain!"
The prompt commands had everyone scrambling to fulfill their duties. Before Leo or Gwen could ask what they should do, he turned to them. "We talked about your combat abilities earlier. Gwen, how confident are you in the air?"
The female knight furrowed her brows but kept a neutral expression. "Now that I am fully rested and have all of my arms and armor? Confident enough to last an hour before I tear my muscles and rupture my tendons."
"Hopefully we won't have to go that far, but I need you at the front guarding Rachel and the rest. Trust them to be capable of dealing a ton of damage, but can I count on you to cover them?"
"Of course, but…" She stared at her Prince, who looked helplessly from the side.
Percy had tested Leo's prowess with the sword, and he was decent. Actually, he was right up there among the best swordsmen he faced. The problem was that Leo had no special tricks; he could hold himself well in a fight, but his body was still human - albeit an athletic one who took good care of himself. The Prince was a crack-shot with a gun, so Percy had him pick a rifle as well as a pair of revolvers to use.
Yet in the end, he was not trained or raised like Gwen was - or bred, as Calypso had whispered when he confided to her and she gazed strangely at the green-eyed knight. Leo could not instantly dash, tense his muscles to block bullets or jump in the air in that method that utterly bitch slapped the rules of physics. Prince Lionel's strengths were in command rather than being a frontline fighter.
As Percy was contemplating, Reyna returned with Calypso's bow and arrows. His lover patted the younger girl's head before turning her staff back to the bracelet that Percy had just now noticed. Then, she strung her bow and nodded to him that she was ready.
"Leo, what do you suggest would be the best assignment for you?"
"It's sad to say it, but against such monsters, I would be nothing more than a burden." The Prince shrugged helplessly, "Perhaps I could take the young lady to check on Blackjack? I wonder why the Pegasus had not come to check what the commotion was."
"An excellent idea! The stupid horse is most likely sleeping with his powers silencing any noise. Wake him up and saddle him for me please, but then I need you both in the galley afterward."
Reyna did not look happy but nodded nonetheless. As she and Leo hurried to check on Blackjack's stall, Percy and Calypso stood in silent vigil on the starboard side of the ship; they could still hear the echoing roars of the monsters, even though the skies were now clear.
.
.
.
It was well past midnight when they finally stopped hearing the monsters. Percy had set an even faster pace for the ship, going 60 knots an hour. After willing the wind to blow so strongly into the sails for so long, Percy was starting to feel exhaustion settling in.
It wasn't just the wind, but he also had to control the ship, the waves, the currents, the friction level between the ship and the water… It was simply too much for him to put on autopilot, and now more than ever; Percy truly missed his father.
He never realized how much Poseidon helped him when he was in need. It wasn't always after a prayer, for Percy could simply subconsciously wish for his father's help, and he would unknowingly get it. Poseidon never asked for anything in return or even reminded him of the favors he had given him. To him, it was just a father helping his son.
"Do you need rest, Percy?"
He turned to Calypso, both of them had remained awake throughout the night. After the first hour, with no sign of further trouble, Percy had let the others sleep while he and his lover remained vigilant.
"Not yet, maybe in another hour. I want to get as much distance as possible before I turn in and let the current take over." He yawned before hugging Calypso sideways, "You should get some sleep. You act tough, but I can tell you still have not fully recovered from your ordeal."
"Am I that obvious?" Calypso laughed, though she too yawned before laying down on a hammock they tied earlier. "Come, join me. You only need to stay awake, that doesn't mean you can't rest."
"Believe me, Cali, I would like nothing more than to strip you naked and–"
"I'm not talking about sex, you incorrigible man!" Calypso's laughter was like the tinkering of a bell, and Percy couldn't help but chuckle. "We can simply cuddle and talk."
He still thought he should remain alert, but then again, Percy could sense everything within a thousand yards of the ship; a vastly diminished sensing range compared to back home. Before he realized it, he was already on the hammock, with Calypso hugging his head to her chest.
"What should we talk about?" His voice was muffled, but he would never complain.
"Oh anything and everything, but first," Calypso turned behind her, where Blackjack was saddled but laid lazily on the deck. "Keep an eye out, dear. You've slept for the whole day already."
"Yeah, yeah. Sheesh, boss. Your mare is even more bossy than you."
"What was that, honey? Would you like to see me really being bossy?" The pegasus neighed, quickly stood, and flew to the ship's prow to keep watch. "It always amuses me when he forgets I can hear him. Living on an island with so many animals forced me to develop a spell to understand them, you see."
"So you speak horse, sheep, deer, and whatever else was on Ogygia?"
"Yep, now let's talk."
And so they talked, about their journey so far, what the future held for them, and Percy's new hobby; writing in his logbook. The minutes trickled into hours and before he knew it, Percy found himself listening to Calypso's even breathing. Her heart beat powerfully even through the layers of fat in her chest, and Percy found himself chuckling.
"To think you would end up falling asleep before me." His lover didn't respond, for she was well and truly asleep. Percy shrugged and decided he could also catch some sleep. He would be of no use if there was danger and he was too drowsy to fight properly. Shuffling a bit, Percy quickly found himself hugging his lover tightly before falling into a dreamless sleep.
.
.
.
"BOSS! Wake up, boss!" Percy groaned at the shout that sounded like it came right next to his ear. "There's nasty danger noodles in the waters up ahead!"
Calypso groaned in his arms, and Percy had trouble opening his eyes, yet with a mighty effort, he managed to get his eyes quickly adjusted to the bright sunlight.
"What time is it?"
A loud snort and something pushed both him and Calypso off the hammock, causing his lover to fall in shock. Percy was now fully awake and stood angrily, ready to give a piece of his mind to whatever had the gall to wake them this way.
Only for a resounding, familiar, Boom to sound out, causing him to stare at the front of the ship with wide eyes as a massive green serpent was utterly obliterated. He could vaguely hear Rachel's voice calling for Tyson to reload, and for Hylla to adjust their aim, for there were more monsters coming out of the depths. An armored figure he recognized as Gwen stood on the port side railing, sending blades of wind from her sword at several small sea serpents - small, as in, a hundred feet long. The crack of gunfire had him turn to the starboard railing where Leo had just shot all the rounds in his rifle at a behemoth of a sea monster, blinding its eyes and causing it to thrash, while a pale-faced Reyna handed him another rifle.
All of this only took Percy a couple of seconds to notice; the attack had clearly just started, for he saw no signs of damage or other dead monsters. A glance at the chronometer by the helm told him it was nearly eight in the morning.
Blackjack snorted again. "It's monster-slaying O'Clock, boss!"
And they set off! Their first trial by fire. The Calm Belt is a terrible place to sail in.
Even if the ship was coated with Seastone, it only takes one curious beastie looking in the wrong direction for a whole herd to swarm a ship.
Percy and Calypso will have to wait for their sexy time, I'm afraid.
