π«πππ πππ π΄ππππ, both sleep soundly in bed together; after staying up late, they needed the sleep. It has been three weeks since the Wendigo, three weeks of growing closer. At first, she resisted him; but after a few days, she was sleeping next to him. Over and over again, they wouldn't admit it to each other or anyone else for the matter but they both knew that something was there. They started acting more or less like a couple, Sam teasing them about it after he walked in on them making out. A grunt escaped Dean's lips as Sam opened the door, "Alright, love birds. Up you get. Breakfast, ten minutes." Sam demands as he packs his bag and leaves the room to wait for the couple to follow after him.
Thirty minutes later, Dean sat at the counter in a local diner with a pen in his mouth as he looks through the paper. Maeve sits next to him, enjoying a burger as Sam uses the restroom. Dean hums lightly as he leans over without looking and takes a bit of the burger Maeve offers. She smiles as she watches him chew and still concentrates on finding them a case. Dean circles an obituary that reads: CARLTON, SOPHIE - 'The Carlton family is sad to announce the death of their beloved daughter in a tragic swimming accident.' Maeve hummed as she leaned over his shoulder to look, he uses it to his advantage to take another bite. Soon a blonde busty waitress, whose nametag says Wendy, approaches. "Can I get you anything else?" She tries to gain Dean's attention who is to busy staring at Maeve who is mumbling as she reads the paper.
Sam comes over and sits down, "Just the check, please. Wow, Dean." Sam scoffs as Wendy walks away with a frown. Dean frowns, looking towards Sam in confusion; "What?" Sam chuckles with a shake of his head. "Nothing, man." Maeve looks up as well, her eyes shining with curiosity as Dean looks completely bemused. Dean soon hands Sam the newspaper, "Here, take a look at this, I think I got one. Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin. Last week Sophie Carlton, eighteen, walks into the lake, doesn't walk out. Authorities dragged the water; nothing. Sophie Carlton is the third Lake Manitoc drowning this year. None of the other bodies were found either. They had a funeral two days ago." Sam frowns at his brother's words. "A funeral?" Maeve and Dean nod in response, "Yeah, it's weird, they buried an empty coffin. For, uh, closure or whatever."
Sam scoffs with an eye roll, "Closure? What closure? People don't just disappear, Dean. Other people just stop looking for them." Dean frowns at his brother who glares back, "Something you want to say to me?" Maeve grunts with an eye roll as she stands up, "Bathroom. I'll meet you boys outside." Dean hums as Sam continues to stare his brother down. "The trail for Dad. It's getting colder every day." Sam snaps at Dean as the waitress comes back with the check. "Exactly. So what are we supposed to do?" Dean asks as he slams down the money for the check. "I don't know. Something. Anything." Sam growls, "You know what? I'm sick of this attitude. You don't think I wanna find Dad as much as you do?" Dean glares at Sam with a frown, he was the one who brought Sam into this. Of course, he wants to find his father! "Yeah, I know you do, it's just..."
"I'm the one that's been with him every single day for the past two years, while you've been off to college going to pep rallies. We will find Dad, but until then, we're gonna kill everything bad between here and there. Okay?" Sam rolls his eyes, Maeve walks by leaving the diner to wait for them outside, distracting Dean. "All right, Lake Manitoc. Hey!" Dean returns his attention to Sam with a dopey look on his face. "Huh?" Sam chuckles lowly with a small shake of his head as they stand to leave. "How far?" Sam asks Dean as they walk out, the younger brother noticing Dean throw away the receipt which had the waitress' number scrawled on it. Sam watches his brother as he moves over to Maeve with a smirk on his face, said woman rolling her eyes with a smile at whatever his brother just said. Sam couldn't help but smile, he really liked this, he was glad his brother found someone that made him happy. In all his life, he hadn't even seen Dean truly smile like that with a woman.
ππππππππ
π»ππ π°πππππ drives past a sign that reads, "Welcome to Lake Manitoc WI." It takes another thirty minutes before they pull up in front of the Carlton house. Dean makes eye contact with Sam for a split second as Medusa frowns towards the bed of water near by. The Impala's engine stops and the trio step out, before making their way up to the house. Dean knocks on the door and a man, who they assume is Will Carlton; opens it. "Will Carlton?" Maeve asks with a raised eyebrow, "Yeah, that's right." He squints at the trio with a confused frown. "I'm Agent Ford. This is Agent Hamill and Agent Jenkins. We're with the US Wildlife Service." Dean holds up an ID, the young man looks at it before slowly nodding.
Will leads them out to his father, Bill Carlton who is sitting on a bench on the dock. Sam and Dean keep their eyes peeled as Medusa eyes the water, whispers of something reaching her ears. "She was about a hundred yards out." Will starts, before pointing to an area on the lake. "That's where she got dragged down." He finished, Maeve slowly bends down to touch the water. "And you're sure she didn't just drown?" Dean asks as she pulls away with a frown, none of the men noticing her actions. "Yeah. She was a varsity swimmer. She practically grew up in that lake. She was as safe out there as she was in her own bathtub." His words made the trio frown, if she grew up in this lake; then why now? "So no splashing? No signs of distress?" Sam asks this time, "No, that's what I'm telling you." Will snipped back in annoyance, "Did you see any shadows in the water? Maybe some dark shape breach the surface?" Maeve asked this time, causing them to look toward her with frowns.
"No. Again, she was really far out there." Will explained with a shake of his head. "You ever see any strange tracks by the shoreline?" Dean asked, "No, never. Why? Why, what do you think's out there?" Will frowned at them in confusion, he couldn't understand why they were asking such questions. "We'll let you know as soon as we do." Dean heads back to the car. "What about your father?" Dean stops and turns back, "Can we talk to him?" Will turns to look at his father, then turns back towards the trio. "Look, if you don't mind, I mean...he didn't see anything and he's kind of been through a lot." Sam nods, sympathetic with him. "We understand." The trio make their way to the car.
An hour later, they all stand in front of the Sheriff who had introduced himself as Jake Devins. "Now, I'm sorry, but why does the Wildlife Service care about an accidental drowning?" The sheriff asks, placing his hands on his hips with a frown of confusion. "You sure it's accidental? Will Carlton saw something grab his sister." Sam raised an eyebrow towards the man causing him to glare back. "Like what?" They walk into Jake's office. Jake motions to chairs in front of his desk. "Here, sit, please. There are no indigenous carnivores in that lake." Sam and Dean sit while Maeve makes her way around the room. "There's nothing even big enough to pull down a person, unless it was the Loch Ness Monster." Jake scoffs, his eyes trailing after Maeve causing Dean to clear his throat with a small glare. "Yeah." He laughs sarcastically, "Right." Sam glances at Dean. "Will Carlton was traumatized, and sometimes the mind plays tricks. Still..."
Jake sits down, "We dragged that entire lake. We even ran a sonar sweep, just to be sure, and there was nothing down there." He explained to them with a shake of his head. "That's weird, though, I mean, that's, that's the third missing body this year." Sam shoots Dean a look as Maeve lightly smacks him on the arm. "I know. These are people from my town. These are people I care about." Jake snaps back in response, "We know." Maeve speaks up, trying to give the man a smile but it only came out an awkward wince. "Anyway..." Jake sighs, "All this...it won't be a problem much longer." The three make eye contact in confusion. "What do you mean?" Dean and Maeve ask together, "Well, the dam, of course."
"Of course, the dam. It's, uh, it sprung a leak." Sam and Maeve rolled their eyes at Dean, he was totally messing this up. "It's falling apart, and the feds won't give us the grant to repair it, so they've opened the spillway. In another six months, there won't be much of a lake. There won't be much of a town, either. But as Federal Wildlife, you already knew that." The man shoots them a look causing Dean to laugh awkwardly. "Exactly." A young woman, knocks on the door with a small smile. The trio looks towards her with a confused look, "Sorry, am I interrupting?" Sam and Dean stand up, Maeve coming to stand next to Dean who subtly wraps his arm around her waist. "I can come back later." Jake stands up and smiles at the woman, "Gentlemen, this is my daughter."
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Dean." Dean shakes her hand, before Sam and Maeve do the same to her. "Andrea Barr. Hi." Sam smiles at her, "I'm Sam." He speaks up before looking towards Maeve who is pulled closer to Dean. "I'm Maeve. Nice to meet you." Jake comes around closer to stand next to them. "They're from the Wildlife Service. About the lake." She slowly nods, "Oh." A young boy, walks in around Andrea. Dean raises an eyebrow at the boy before bending down to face him better. "Oh, hey there. What's your name?" He walks away without speaking, Andrea smiles awkwardly before following after the boy. "His name is Lucas." The mother and son move into the main room, where they watch as Andrea gives Lucas some crayons out of a box.
"Is he okay?" Sam asks, his brows furrowing in worry. "My grandson's been through a lot. We all have." Jake goes to the office door, "Well, if there's anything else I can do for you, please let me know." Medusa, Dean, Sam, and Jake leave the office. "Thanks. You know, now that you mentioned it, could you point us in the direction of a reasonably priced motel?" Dean asks with a smile, Maeve raises an eyebrow at the look. Sam looks between them for a moment, "Lakefront Motel. Go around the corner. It's about two blocks south." Andrea gives the directions with a smile, as the other two watch them. The smile that Dean was supporting, wasn't his flirty one; Maeve and Sam had both seen that one enough. No, this one was his fake smile, he really was just looking for directions and probably some more information.
"Would you mind showing us?" Andrea laughs at Sam's question, finally catching onto the reason for Dean's smile. They were fishing for leads about this hunt, Maeve couldn't help but smile; she really wasn't sure about this. She didn't know if she really wanted to go through with this relationship thing with Dean, with her being a thing and him being someone that hunts those like her. She sighs, it probably didn't help that Dean is a known player, she could get hurt at any moment; both physically and emotionally. "You want me to walk you two blocks?" Andrea asks, "Not if it's any trouble." Maeve speaks up with a small smile. "I'm headed that way anyway." Andrea turns to Jake, "I'll be back to pick up Lucas at three."
Andra turns to her son with a smile, "We'll go to the park, okay, sweetie?" She kisses him on the head and Dean waves as they leave. Jake nods, his lips pulling into a frown again; he really didn't trust this crew. Especially, the woman with the tattoos. "Thanks again." Sam utters out before he follows after everyone. Andrea leads them along the street, Dean winking at Sam with a smile. "So, cute kid." Maeve rolls her eyes, as Sam sighs. "Thanks." They cross a street, "Kids are the best, huh?" Andrea glances at him and ignores him, they keep walking. They stop in front of a building that says LAKEFRONT MOTEL. "There it is. Like I said, two blocks."
"Thanks." Andrea addresses Dean, "Must be hard, with your sense of direction, never being able to find your way to a decent pickup line." Andrea leaves, calling back over her shoulder. "Enjoy your stay!" Sam and Maeve turn to Dean with glares on their faces, he winced slightly. He wasn't trying to flirt, just trying to butter her up to get some information; that's all. "'Kids are the best?' You don't even like kids." Sam scoffs with a frown, Maeve shakes her head and turns to leave. "I love kids." Dean utters out, his gaze following after Maeve with an upset frown. "Name three children that you even know." Dean thinks and comes up empty, Sam waves a hand and walks into the motel after Maeve.
Dean scratches his head, "I'm thinking!" He shouts following after them, "Maeve. Sweetheart, wait." Sam lets out a scoffed laugh as he watches Maeve stand at the door waiting for Dean to run in. Said man, quickly bursting through the door with a wide eyed look on his face. While Sam gets a room for him and his brother, then a separate one for Maeve; he listens to Dean and Maeve behind him.
ππππππππ
πΊππ ππ πππππππ on his laptop, Dean is going through his clothing as Maeve lays on his bed; staring up at the ceiling. "So there's the three drowning victims this year." Sam starts off, "Any before that?" Dean asks as his eyes rake up Maeve's body. He couldn't even begin to describe how hot those tattoos of hers made her look. She wouldn't tell him what they meant, just that when she was ready; she would. "Uh, yeah." Sam has a browser window open to The Lake Manitoc Tribune. DROWNING TAINTS ICE FISHING FESTIVAL. He clicks, and another browser window comes up, again the Tribune: 12-YEAR-OLD Girl DROWNS IN LAKE, Second drowning in 6 months at Lake Manitoc. "Six more spread out over the past thirty-five years. Those bodies were never recovered either. If there is something out there, it's picking up its pace." Dean tosses an item of clothing onto a bed.
"So, what, we got a lake monster on a binge?" Dean asks with a frown of confusion as he glances toward Sam. "This whole lake monster theory, it, it just bugs me." Dean comes over to read over Sam's shoulder as Maeve sits up. "Why?" She asks with a cock of her head, "Loch Ness, uh, Lake Champlain, there are literally hundreds of eyewitness accounts, but here, almost nothing." Sam looks at the Tribunehomepage. "Whatever it is out there, no one's living to talk about it." Sam scrolls to the comments section of an article. Dean points at it, "Wait, Barr, Christopher Barr. Where have I heard that name before?" Maeve sighs as Sam reads from the page. "Andrea." She stated as Dean snapped his fingers in response. "Christopher Barr, the victim in May."
Sam clicks a link, opening a new page, Local man in tragic accident. The picture loads: it shows a police officer with Lucas. "Oh. Christopher Barr was Andrea's husband, Lucas's father. Apparently he took Lucas out swimming. Lucas was on a floating wooden platform when Chris drowned. Two hours before the kid got rescued." Sam clicks the picture for a better look, then scratches his head. "Maybe we have an eyewitness after all." Sam states lowly, "No wonder that kid was so freaked out. Watching one of your parents die isn't something you just get over." Dean mutters out with a sad frown, all three of them feeling sorry for the young boy.
ππππππππ
π²ππ π πππ ππππππππ and playing. Andra sits on a bench and watches Lucas, who is at another bench coloring and playing with toy soldiers. "Can we join you?" The woman looks up, the trio stands there with small smiles on their faces. "I'm here with my son." Dean looks over at Lucas, he glances towards Maeve and Sam before turning to Andrea. "Oh. Mind if I say hi?" Dean goes over to Lucas and starts to talk to the little boy. "Tell your friend this whole Jerry Maguire thing is not gonna work on me." Andrea smirks, it was totally working on her but that wasn't what he was trying to do. Sam sits next to Andrea as Maeve rolls her eyes, "I don't think that's what this is about, besides I don't think his girl would appreciate it." Sam whispers with a smirk causing Andrea's eyes to widen as she looks towards Maeve who was watching Dean and Lucas.
Dean kneels down next to the bench where Lucas is coloring; when Lucas doesn't even look up, Dean picks up one of the toy soldiers. Maeve couldn't help but smile as she watches Dean imitate guns and explosions, then tosses the toy soldier down. Andrea stands and moves over to her with a small smile on her face, "Hey, I'm sorry for assuming." Maeve gives her a small smile in response. "No big deal. I don't even really know what we are, much less if we should be a thing. I've got too much baggage and Dean's, well... He's Dean." Medusa shakes her head, as Andrea gives her a sympathetic look. "You know, when I met Lucas' father; I couldn't stand him. He was always trying way too hard, but eventually we grew close. All the fear I had, it was valid but I didn't let it control me." Maeve gives Andrea a smile, "Thanks."
Dean heads back towards them, his eyes meeting Maeve's as he smiles. "Lucas hasn't said a word, not even to me. Not since his dad's accident." She explains as Dean nods, Sam comes to stand next to them as well. "Yeah, we heard. Sorry." Andrea nods, "What are the Doctors saying?" Sam asks her, a confused look on her face. "That it's a kind of post-traumatic stress." Andrea speaks up with a shake of her head. "That can't be easy. For either of you." Maeve responds, "We moved in with my dad. He helps out a lot. It's just...when I think about what Lucas went through, what he saw..." There was another pause. "Kids are strong. You'd be surprised what they can deal with." Lucas leaves the bench, heading for the group. "You know, he used to have such life. He was hard to keep up with, to tell you the truth. Now he just sits there. Drawing those pictures, playing with those army men. I just wish..."
Lucas walks up, carrying a picture. "Hey sweetie." Lucas hands Dean the picture, "Thanks. Thanks, Lucas." It's a picture of a red house, Andrea frowns as her son turns and heads back to the bench.
ππππππππ
π»ππ π΅πππ π΄ππππππ, Dean sits on his bed, Maeve sits on his lap; her lips locked with his as she runs her hands through his hair. Dean groans happily as his own hands wonder down her body, Sam opens the door and comes in. He groans at the sight of Maeve jumping away from Dean, "Seriously, guys." Sam glares at his brother who groans and flops back onto the bed. "Dude, you're such a cock block." Maeve smirks with a shake of her head as she moves to sit at the table. "You have another room." He sighs, "Look, I think it's safe to say we can rule out Nessie." Sam changes the subject with a frown, "What do you mean?" Sam sits next to Dean. "I just drove past the Carlton house. There was an ambulance there. Will Carlton is dead." Medusa frowns as she stands up, "He drowned?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "Yep. In the sink."
"What the hell? So you're right, this isn't a creature. We're dealing with something else." Dean states with a sigh, "Yeah, but what?" Sam asks, rubbing his forehead; a serious headache coming on. "I don't know. Water wraith, maybe? Some kind of demon? I mean, something that controls water...water that comes from the Same source." The brothers pause, it clicking together as Maeve speaks up. "The lake." She grabs her jacket, "Yeah." Dean responds as he too stands up to get moving. "Which would explain why it's upping the body count. The lake is draining. It'll be dry in a few months. Whatever this thing is, whatever it wants, it's running out of time." Sam explains, "And if it can get through the pipes, it can get to anyone, almost anywhere." Sam stands up. "This is gonna happen again soon."
Dean grabs his keys and jacket, giving Maeve a kiss on the cheek. "And we do know one other thing for sure. We know this has got something to do with Bill Carlton." Sam starts collecting his stuff as well, "Yeah, it took both his kids." Maeve mutters sarcastically. "And I've been asking around. Lucas's dad, Chris-Bill Carlton's godson." Sam explains, "Let's go pay Mr. Carlton a visit."
ππππππππ
π»ππ ππππ πππππ their way up to Bill Carlton who is sitting on the bench on the dock. "Mr. Carlton?" He looks up as Sam, Medusa and Dean approach him. "We'd like to ask you a few questions, if you don't mind." Sam starts with a clearing of his throat, Maeve shifts slightly at the sight of the lake. The water making her extremely uncomfortable, "We're from the, the Department..." He was interrupted by Bill who slowly turned to face them. "I don't care who you're with. I've answered enough questions today." He glares at them, "Your son said he saw something in that lake. What about you? You ever see anything out there? Mr. Carlton, Sophie's drowning and Will's death-we think there might be a connection to you or your family."
"My children are gone. It's...it's worse than dying. Go away. Please." Maeve, Sam and Dean head back to the car. "What do you think?" Sam asks, turning to face them. "Aw, I think the poor guy's been through hell. I also think he's not telling us something." Sam leans on the Impala, "So now what?" Dean goes still, his eyes squinting. "What is it?" Dean cocks his head after Sam's question. "Huh." Dean is looking at the Carlton house, "Maybe Bill's not the only one who knows something."Dean pulls out the picture Lucas brought him, which is of the Carlton house. Dean looks at Sam and Maeve who both raise their eyebrows in response.
An hour later, the trio is knocking on the door of Andrea's home. She opens it, then frowns at the sight of them but she lets them in anyway. "I'm sorry, but I don't think it's a good idea." Andrea shakes her head, "I just need to talk to him. Just for a few minutes." Dean insists, his face pulled up into a grimace. "He won't say anything. What good's it gonna do?" Andrea asked, "Andrea, we think more people might get hurt. We think something's happening out there." Maeve explains to the woman, both females have come to an understanding with one another. Andrea trusted Maeve, "My husband, the others, they just drowned. That's all." She insisted with a shake of her head, "If that's what you really believe, then we'll go. But if you think there's even a possibility that something else could be going on here, please let me talk to your son."
Lucas is coloring, toy soldiers standing around him. Dean, Maeve, Andrea, and Sam approach the doorway. Dean enters and crouches down by Lucas with a smile. "Hey, Lucas. You remember me?" Lucas has drawn two more pictures of a red bicycle. "You know, I, uh, I wanted to thank you for that last drawing. But the thing is, I need your help again." He is drawing a person in water, Dean opens the house picture and puts it down in front of the boy. "How did you know to draw this? Did you know something bad was gonna happen? Maybe you could nod yes or no for me." The boy keeps coloring, "You're scared. It's okay. I understand. See, when I was your age, I saw something real bad happen to my mom, and I was scared, too. I didn't feel like talking, just like you. But see, my mom-I know she wanted me to be brave. I think about that every day. And I do my best to be brave. And maybe, your dad wants you to be brave too."
Lucas drops his crayon and looks up at Dean. He hands Dean a picture of a white church, a yellow house, and a boy with a blue baseball cap and red bicycle in front of a wooden fence. "Thanks, Lucas."
ππππππππ
π»ππ ππππππ π πππππ along, Dean driving with Maeve in the backseat. Sam holding the church picture, "Andrea said the kid never drew like that till his dad died." Dean starts with a frown, "There are cases-going through a traumatic experience could make people more sensitive to premonitions, psychic tendencies." Sam explains, his nerdiness making Dean roll his eyes. "Whatever's out there, what if Lucas is tapping into it somehow? I mean, it's only a matter of time before somebody else drowns, so if you got a better lead, please." Dean takes a guess, "All right, we got another house to find." Maeve speaks up from the backseat before popping her head in between them.
"The only problem is there's about a thousand yellow two-stories in this county alone." Sam looks at the picture, "See this church? I bet there's less than a thousand of those around here." Sam snips sarcastically. "Oh, college boy thinks he's so smart." Dean spoke with an eye roll as Maeve laughs gently. "You know, um... What you said about Mom...You never told me that before." Sam looks towards Dean with his puppy dog eyes as Maeve moves back silently to give them a moment. "It's no big deal. Oh God, we're not gonna have to hug or anything, are we?" Maeve smiles as Dean winks towards her through the mirror, Sam sighs with a shake of his head and drops it for the moment.
Sam, Maeve and Dean approach a white church shaped like the one in Lucas's picture. Dean holds up the picture and looks at it, comparing it to the scene in front of him; there's a yellow house next to the church and a wooden fence near the house. Sam looks at Dean and Maeve as they look up at the church and cross the street to the house. "We're sorry to bother you, ma'am..." Dean and Sam are inside the house, speaking to an Old Woman, Mrs. Sweeney as Maeve looks around. "...but does a little boy live here, by chance? He might wear a blue ball cap, has a red bicycle." Maeve moves silently behind her, picking up a picture frame from the bookshelf. "No sir. Not for a very long time. Peter's been gone for thirty-five years now."
It was a picture of a little boy, she moves over to them and shows the picture to the woman who sighs. She takes the picture with a small gasp, tears gathering in her eyes. "The police never...I...never had any idea what happened. He just disappeared." Sam points out to Dean a number of toy soldiers on a table. "Losing him-you know, it's...it's worse than dying." Dean glances at Sam, "Did he disappear from here? I mean, from this house?" Dean asked as Maeve finally takes a seat. "He was supposed to ride his bike straight home after school, and he never showed up." Dean picks a picture off the mirror. There are two boys in the picture, one Peter with a bicycle. Dean reads from the back of the picture, "Peter Sweeney and Billy Carlton, nineteen seventy."
ππππππππ
π΄ππππ, πΊππ πππ π«πππ are making their way to the Carlton house. "Okay, this little boy Peter Sweeney vanishes, and this is all connected to Bill Carlton somehow." Sam starts off, "Yeah, Bill sure as hell seems to be hiding something, huh?" Dean asks with a raised eyebrow. "And Bill, the people he loves, they're all getting punished." Maeve continues with a frown, she couldn't help but feel sorry for the man even if he deserved it. She knew all about what happens to good people and bad things that happen to them. "So what if Bill did something to Peter?" Dean asked, his eyes moving to and from the road. "What if Bill killed him?" Sam asked in response, "Peter's spirit would be furious. It'd want revenge. It's possible."
The Impala pulls up in front of the Carlton house, within a few minutes the trio approach the house. "Mr. Carlton?" An engine roars, the trio goes around the house to see Bill going out on the lake in his boat. "Hey, check it out." Sam and Dean run to the end of the dock, yelling. Maeve stands at the beginning of the dock with a sad look upon her face. There was no stopping it now, "Mr. Carlton! You need to come back! Come out of the water! Turn the boat around!" Dean shouts, "Mr. Carlton!" Bill ignores them and keeps going. The water rises up and flips Bill's boat over, It and he vanish.
ππππππππ
π³ππππ ππ sitting in a chair, rocking back and forth. Andrea is sitting next to him, holding a paper bag and a plastic container. "Baby, what's wrong?" Medusa, Sam, Dean, and Jake walk in the door causing Andrea to look over. "Maeve, Sam, Dean." She nods to them as she stands up, putting the bag and container on her chair. "I didn't expect to see you here." She spoke gently as Jake glares in suspicion at the sight. "So now you're on a first-name basis. What are you doing here?" Jake asks her, she smiles and holds up a bag of food. "I brought you dinner." He sighs with a sad expression, "I'm sorry, sweetheart, I don't really have the time." Andrea frowns at the group that was standing in front of her. "I heard about Bill Carlton. Is it true? Is something going on with the lake?"
"Right now we don't know what the truth is. But I think it might be better if you and Lucas went on home." Lucas looks up and whines, looking stricken; he jumps up and grabs Dean's arm. "Lucas, hey, what is it?Lucas." Maeve frowns as she watches the boy, something was wrong. "Lucas." Andrea frowns at her son, "Lucas, it's okay. It's okay. Hey, Lucas, it's okay. It's okay." Andrea pulls Lucas away from Dean and leads him outside, Lucas doesn't look away from Dean. Dean looks towards his brother and girl with a frown on his face. Lucas was definitely trying to tell them something. Jake throws down his jacket and goes into his office, the trio follows close behind. "Okay, just so I'm clear, you see...something attack Bill's boat, sending Bill-who is a very good swimmer, by the way-into the drink, and you never see him again?"
Dean glances at Sam and Maeve with a raised brow. "Yeah, that about sums it up." He shrugged slightly towards the man who glares in annoyance. "And I'm supposed to believe this, even though I've already sonar-swept that entire lake? And what you're describing is impossible? And you're not really Wildlife Service?" Dean looks surprised, "That's right, I checked. Department's never heard of you three and I'm sure the girl with tattoos is quite memorable." Maeve rolls her eyes in annoyance, smart ass. "See, now, we can explain that." Dean starts, only for Jake to put his hand up. "Enough. Please. The only reason you're breathing free air is one of Bill's neighbors saw him steering out that boat just before you did. So, we have a couple of options here. I can arrest you for impersonating government officials and hold you as material witnesses to Bill Carlton's disappearance. Or, we can chalk this all up to a bad day, you get into your car, you put this town in your rearview mirror, and you don't ever darken my doorstep again."
"Door number two sounds good."
"That's the one I'd pick."
πππππππ
π«πππ πππ πΊππ are in the front seats of the Impala, waiting at a traffic light. Maeve sits in the back, in her hands was a pen. The only way she could remove her runes, she was debating if she needed to remove one or not. A sign says I-43 North to Milwaukee is to the left. The light turns green, but the Impala doesn't move. "Green." Sam states causing Dean to blink, "What?" Maeve watches as Dean turns to look at his brother. "Light's green." Dean turns right, "Uh, the interstate's the other way." Sam uttered out as Maeve slowly nods to herself as she pulls up the sleeve on her right arm. "I know." Using the pen, she begins burning the rune off; she has a feeling she would need this one. "But Dean, this job, I think it's over." She lets out a quiet hiss, trying not to gain the attention of the brothers.
"I'm not so sure." Dean responds back. "If Bill murdered Peter Sweeney and Peter's spirit got its revenge, case closed. The spirit should be at rest." Sam insisted, Maeve quickly finishes up her work and shoves the pen back in her bag. Another gift from God, not that she would call it that. "All right, so what if we take off and this thing isn't done? You know, what if we've missed something? What if more people get hurt?" She asks, finally joining in on the conversation as she pulls the sleeve of her jacket down and starts to change her shoes. "But why would you think that?" Sam asked her, he wouldn't believe her if she told him; not yet at least. "Because Lucas was really scared." Dean responded before she could, "That's what this is about?" Sam asks with a scoff, "I just don't want to leave this town until I know the kid's okay." Sam stares at his brother for a moment, "Who are you? And what have you done with my brother?" Dean glances at Sam. "Shut up."
Within minutes, the impala pulls up and the trio gets out. "Are you sure about this? It's pretty late." Dean rings the doorbell. At that moment, Lucas opens the door, desperately afraid. "Lucas? Lucas!" Lucas takes off inside with Maeve, Dean and Sam following him. Water is pouring out from under the bathroom door and down the stairs. Lucas starts pounding on the bathroom door again. Dean pushes him over to Sam and kicks in the door. Lucas grabs Dean, so Sam and Maeve run into the bathroom; sticking their arms in the tub, trying to pull Andrea out. She is pulled back under, but they keep pulling until Andrea is all the way out. She starts coughing up water, as her naked body is covered by a towel Maeve quickly grabs. Sam holds her as her body shakes and she cries gently in his arms.
Dawn is breaking, Sam and Andrea sit in the living room. Andrea is dry and wearing comfortable clothing, "Can you tell me?" Sam starts off gently as his eyes look towards Maeve who is bent down talking to Lucas. "No." Dean is looking through notebooks on bookshelves. "It doesn't make any sense." She starts crying, "I'm going crazy." She puts her face in her hands. "No, you're not. Tell me what happened. Everything." Sam gives her his puppy eyes and she breaks. "I heard...I thought I heard...there was this voice." He nods, to encourage her more. "What did it say?" He asked, "It said...it said 'come play with me'." She sobs even harder, "What's happening?" Dean pulls out a scrapbook that says "Jake - 12 years old" and opens it, flipping pages. He closes it again and goes to Sam and Andrea; he puts the book down in front of Andrea, open to a picture of Explorer Troop 37.
Maeve slowly makes her way over as Lucas moves to the window. "Do you recognize the kids in these pictures?" Dean asks, "What? Um, um, no. I mean, except that's my dad right there. He must have been about twelve in these pictures." She moves her finger over to another picture of Jake as a child; he is standing next to Peter. Dean looks at Sam, "Chris Barr's drowning. The connection wasn't to Bill Carlton. It must have been to the Sheriff." Dean states in fact. "Bill and the Sheriff-they were both involved with Peter." Sam utters out with a frown on his face as Maeve once again looks towards Lucas. Her arm itching from last night, she needed to wrap it but now wasn't the time. "What about Chris? My dad-what are you talking about?" Dean looks sideways.
"Lucas?" Lucas is staring out the window, "Lucas, what is it?" Lucas opens the door and walks outside. Everyone follows after the young boy, "Lucas, honey?" Lucas stops and looks at the ground, then at Dean. "You and Lucas get back to the house and stay there, okay?" Andrea pulls Lucas back to the house. Dean and Sam quickly fetch shovels from the Impala, before they start digging. Sam's shovel clanks against something. They dig with their hands and pull out a red bicycle. "Peter's bike." Maeve breathes out in sadness, after all the years she had been alive; she still couldn't understand how people can kill children. Then again, she couldn't understand how she didn't turn out to be a killer herself, after everything she's been put through. Anyone in her position would have gone mad, and maybe she was a little mad; she's hanging out with the Winchester brothers.
"Who are you?" Maeve, Sam and Dean turn around; Jake is there, pointing a gun at them. "Put the gun down, Jake." Sam and Dean drop the shovels, "How did you know that was there?" He asks with a look of horror on his face. "What happened? You and Bill killed Peter, drowned him in the lake and then buried the bike? You can't bury the truth, Jake. Nothing stays buried."
Andrea sees Jake with the gun aimed at Sam and Dean. She immediately turns to her son, "Go to your room, sweetie. Now. Lock the door and wait for me. Don't come out." Lucas runs off, and Andrea makes her way outside. "I don't know what the hell you're talking about." Jake hisses in anger, "You and Bill killed Peter Sweeney thirty-five years ago. That's what the hell I'm talking about." Andrea runs up to them, "Dad!" She shouts in shock and horror. "And now you got one seriously pissed-off spirit."
"It's gonna take Andrea, Lucas, everyone you love. It's gonna drown them. And it's gonna drag their bodies God knows where, so you can feel the Same pain Peter's mom felt. And then, after that, it's gonna take you, and it's not gonna stop until it does." Sam tells him with a glare, "Yeah, and how do you know that?" Jake asks in response with a scoff. He didn't believe them, "Because that's exactly what it did to Bill Carlton." Jake laughs, "Listen to yourselves, the three of you. You're insane." He hisses in anger, "I don't really give a rat's ass what you think of us. But if we're gonna bring down this spirit, we need to find the remains, salt them, and burn them into dust. Now tell me you buried Peter somewhere. Tell me you didn't just let him go in the lake."
Andrea looks towards her father in horror, "Dad, is any of this true?" She asks, "No. Don't listen to them. They're liars and they're dangerous." They could all tell he was lying, including Andrea who gapped at her father. "Something tried to drown me. Chris died on that lake. Dad, look at me." Jake does, "Tell me you-you didn't kill anyone." Jake looks away, "Oh my God." She breathes out in sadness and horror, "Billy and I were at the lake. Peter was the smallest one. We always bullied him, but this time, it got rough. We were holding his head under the water. We didn't mean to. But we held him under too long and he drowned. We let the body go, and it sank." Dean glances at Sam, "Oh, Andrea, we were kids. We were so scared. It was a mistake. But, Andrea, to say that I have anything to do with these drownings, with Chris, because of some ghost? It's not rational."
"All right, listen to me, all of you. We need to get you away from this lake, as far as we can, right now." Andrea turns her head and spots Lucas going down to the lake. She gasps in horror, "Lucas!" They all take off towards the dock. Lucas is leaning over the side, reaching for a toy soldier in the water. "Lucas!" Dean shouts as Maeve reaches the dock first, slipping off her shoes and jacket as she runs to the end. "Lucas! Baby, stay where you are!" A hand comes up and pulls Lucas into the water, Maeve jumping in right after he goes under. The other adults have reached the edge of the lake. Jake stops. Peter's head is visible; Jake recognizes him. "Maeve!" Dean and Sam keep running to the end of the dock and dive in.
"Oh my God!" She takes off her jacket to jump in. "Andrea, stay there!" Sam demands as he swims, "No! Lucas!" She shouts with tears in her eyes, "We'll get him! Just stay on the dock!" Sam dives under again, Dean comes up. A minute later, so does Sam. Dean's eyes scan for Maeve but he frowns in panic when he doesn't see her. "Sam?" Sam shakes his head, "Lucas, where are you?" Jake takes off his jacket as Sam and Dean dive back down. Jake wades in, Andrea looks over after hearing his splashing. "Peter, if you can hear me...please, Peter, I'm sorry. I'm so-I'm so sorry." He starts to cry, his own guilt and sorrow taking over. "Daddy, no!" Andrea shouts, "Peter. Lucas-he's, he's just a little boy. Please, it's not his fault, it's mine. Please take me."
Dean and Sam come up for air, Maeve is down at the very bottom; struggling against Peter for Lucas. Her body glowing in the pitch black as she breathes under water. Suddenly, Peter releases Lucas, who is immediately grabbed by Maeve who used her power to give him air. Jake is dragged down, Maeve watching sadly as he suffocates, Sam and Dean go down one more time both coming up with nothing. As Andrea screams for her son, Dean continues to panic as he gets ready to go back down again. Suddenly, the water breaks and Maeve gasps in air with Lucas in her arms. Andrea cries out in relief as the boys help them onto the dock, Dean pulling Maeve close to his body. "Don't ever do that again."

The moment they got Lucas to safety, he noticed and immediately started questioning her. She deflected, but she knew eventually she would have to tell him. Dean sighs once more before tapping her arm as he finishes with the wraps. "Thanks." Maeve murmurs gently as he hums, moving to finish packing his bag. "Dean." He pauses, waiting for her to finish, "Look, I've got a past and I don't know if I can tell you about it yet. You'd hate me." Dean slowly looks over towards her, he sighs before moving to bend down in front of her. "Alright, you'll tell me when you can, but don't assume to know how I'll respond." Dean tells her sternly causing her to nod, he nods back before quickly giving her a peck on the lips. "Now, let's get the hell out of here." She nods with a smile as they walk out of the motel, where Sam waits out front. Dean opens the car door and Sam tosses a duffel in.
"Look, we're not gonna save everybody." Sam starts, trying to communicate with his brother who gives him a nod in response. "I know." Dean breathes out as he grabs Maeve's bag and puts it in the trunk with theirs. "Sam, Dean." Andrea walks up with Lucas, the trio smiling at the mother and son. "Hey." Maeve greets, "We're glad we caught you. We just, um, we made you lunch for the road." Lucas is carrying a tray of sandwiches. "Lucas insisted on making the sandwiches himself." Andrea responds, "Can I give it to them now?" Lucas asks as he looks up to his mother. "Of course." Andrea smiles and kisses Lucas' head. "Come on, Lucas, let's load this into the car." As Dean leads Lucas to the car, Sam turns to Andrea who smiles at Maeve in thanks.
"How you holding up?" Sam asks, "It's just gonna take a long time to sort through everything, you know?" Sam sighs. "Andrea, I'm sorry." Maeve breathes out, Andrea shakes her head, "You saved my son. I can't ask for more than that. Dad loved me. He loved Lucas. No matter what he did, I just have to hold on to that." Dean puts the sandwiches in the car. "All right, if you're gonna be talking now, this is a very important phrase, so I want you to repeat it one more time." Dean smiles at the young boy, "Zeppelin rules!" Lucas cheers, finally back to talking again. It took him a day, and some convincing by Maeve who saved him but he finally started to talk again. "That's right. Up high."
Dean holds his hand up for a high-five. Lucas obliges, grinning."You take care of your mom, okay?" Lucas nods with a grin as Maeve comes over to ruffle his hair. "All right." Andrea comes up and kisses Dean on the cheek. "Thank you." Dean thinks a minute, then scratches his head and goes around the car. He shifts slightly as he looks towards Maeve, she gives him a smirk before kissing him on the lips and slipping into the impala. "Sam, move your ass. We're gonna run out of daylight before we hit the road." Dean gets in the car, then Sam. Bad Company's "Movin' On" starts to play when Dean starts the engine. Sam, Maeve and Dean smile at Andrea and Lucas waving goodbye.
They drive away, once again on the road of adventure and the supernatural.
