𝑴𝒂𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 in the mirror, blood dripping down her eyes. "You killed him. You killed all of them. The good men who had family's, it's your fault, he chose you." Maeve shook her head as she tried to back away from the mirror. "Why are you lying to yourself?" Her reflection asks, "All those souls, all that time. That's a lot of death, sweetheart." She blinks and it was no longer her standing in the mirror, it was Dean. "Do you really think I would just accept you? Well, you've got another thing coming. I'm going to hunt you down and gut you like a pig." He hissed towards her, bloody tears streamed down her face as she stayed frozen in place. "Why are you crying, isn't this what you wanted? You've asked before, why not now?" He growled out, his body moving forward as the knife in his hand plunged itself into her stomach.

She wakes up with a gasp, her naked body wrapped in the sheets of the bed and Dean's arms. Her body is as stiff as a board as Dean snores gently beside her. She slowly slips out from underneath his arm, her hands reaching down to grab his shirt that laid on the floor from the night before. She looks towards him, his body shifting slightly as a frown grows on his face. He reaches for her, but doesn't find anything; she turns making her way towards the bathroom. "Sweetheart?" He calls out, his voice hoarse with sleep still. "Are you okay?" She turns to him with a smile, "Yeah, I just have to pee." He hums before shifting and going back to sleep. She makes her way inside the bathroom, flicking the light on; her eyes catching sight of the runes upon her body. The one she broke, now a faded scar; still there, but scarred. Her eyes meet the ones in the mirror and she hates the sight of them.

She really needed to leave, it was safer when she was on her own. It was getting to dangerous, but every time she thinks about leaving, the boys give her reasons not too. Sam keeps asking her questions, his eyes go wide with excitement as she gives into his nerdy tendencies and Dean...Well, she hasn't ever felt so special to anyone, than with him. He hasn't even looked at another female unless it was for a case or when he's trying to get a rise out of her. Sure, he makes comments but that's just Dean; Maeve knows he has a past, he wasn't exactly keeping it secret. He just makes her feel special, not like the monster she knows she is. The problem, she had a feeling that her secrets would come to light soon if she didn't leave.

She had to choose.

Letting out a sigh, Maeve did her business before making her way back to bed. Dean immediately pulling her body against his; she smiles at the feeling, closing her eyes once more to try and sleep a few more hours; this time with no nightmare.

π‘»π’˜π’ π’…π’‚π’šπ’” 𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓, Dean pulls into a gas station; Maeve slipping out to go use the restroom and stock up on snacks. Sam continues to sit in the passenger seat, playing on his phone. Dean turns to face his brother after watching Maeve walk away, his tongue wetting his lips as he remembers the night before. The last two weeks, they've been having the most amazing sex he's ever had; they've been bonding like no other. Late night talks, early morning breakfast, a couple of showers together. Dean has actually been happier than he has been in a really long time, and he gets to hunt on top of that. He's got a beautiful woman on his arm, and he's doing his dream job. What more could he ask for, "Alright, I figure we'd hit Tucumcari by lunch, then head south, hit Bisbee by midnight." Sam doesn't respond, "Sam wears women's underwear."

"I've been listenin', I'm just busy." He is checking e-mails on his PalmPilot, Dean frowns as he looks towards his brother. "Busy doin' what?" He asked, "Reading e-mails." Dean gets out of the car and starts to fill the tank with gas. He watches as Maeve makes her back over with a smile and breakfast, "Get what you wanted?" He asked her as he leaned down to give her a kiss. She smiles up at him with a nod, "Yep, here you go." She hands him another bag full of the one thing he wanted. Pie. He smiles brightly, "See this is why I keep you around." He teases gently as she rolls her eyes with a laugh. Dean then turns back to his brother, "E-mails from who?" He asks, changing the subject. "From my friends at Stanford." Sam responds with a shrug, "You're kidding. You still keep in touch with your college buddies?"

"Why not?" Sam asks, looking towards Dean with a raised brow. "Well, what exactly do you tell 'em? You know, about where you've been, what you've been doin'?" Maeve smiles at Sam before climbing back into the impala with a hum. "I tell 'em I'm on a road trip with my big brother and his girlfriend. I tell 'em I needed some time off after Jess." Sam responds with a shrug, "Oh, so you lie to 'em." Maeve gives him a pointed look with a small laugh. "No. I just don't tell 'em...everything." Sam replied, giving her a smug smile as he looked back at her. "Yeah, that's called lying. I mean, hey, man, I get it, tellin' the truth is far worse." Dean hints as the pump clicks, "So, what am I supposed to do, just cut everybody out of my life?" Dean shrugs, "You're serious?"

"Look, it sucks, but in a job like this, you can't get close to people, period." Maeve looks away from Dean with a sad look, he was right. She needed to leave soon anyway, no point in getting heartbroken over it. "You're kind of anti-social, you know that? And what about Maeve?" Sam asks, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah, whatever. Maeve is the only exception, she's my girl and she's a badass. She can handle herself." Dean responds, a soft look making its way onto his face as he gives her a smile. Sam watches them for a moment before he continues to read his e-mails. Dean bends down to get another kiss from Maeve who rolls her eyes and complies. He falls back, pulling the gas pump back and shutting the tank on the impala.

"God..." Sam breathed out as Dean moves around to climb back behind the wheel. "What?" Maeve asked as she leaned forward, she had a piece of chocolate donut on the side of her mouth. Dean watches her with a smile as he moves to wipe it off, Sam glances toward them before looking back down at his phone. "In this e-mail from this girl, Rebecca Warren, one of those friends of mine." Dean uses his thump to lick the chocolate as he shoots Maeve a wink. "Is she hot?" Sam ignores him as Maeve rolls her eyes at his playful tone. "I went to school with her, and her brother, Zack. She says Zack's been charged with murder. He's been arrested for killing his girlfriend. Rebecca says he didn't do it, but it sounds like the cops have a pretty good case." Sam explains to them, "Dude, what kind of people are you hangin' out with?"

"No, man, I know Zack. He's no killer." Sam insists, both Maeve and Dean scoffed; Maeve's mind going back to her own life. A life where a man she thought would never betray her, ended up doing exactly that. He was the second man to betray her, Maeve slowly looks towards Dean with a sad look. She really hoped he wouldn't be the third man in her life, if he did; she wasn't sure how she would ever survive. "Well, maybe you know Zack as well as he knows you." Dean speaks, breaking her from her thoughts. "They're in St. Louis. We're goin'." Dean lets out a chuckle, "Look, sorry 'bout your buddy, okay? But this does not sound like our kind of problem." Sam looks towards Dean with a frown, "It is our problem. They're my friends." Sam snipped back. "St. Louis is four hundred miles behind us, Sam." They exchange a look. A minute later, they pull out of the gas station and start driving.

They stand at the door, Dean giving Sam a look before Sam clears his throat and knocks. A woman opens the door with a smile, her eyes shining as soon as she spots Sam. "Oh my God, Sam!" She cheers excitedly, "Well, if it isn't little Becky." Sam teases as Maeve and Dean watch them with raised eyebrows. "You know what you can do with that little Becky crap." She gives him a pointed look and they hug. "I got your e-mail." Sam breathes out with a small laugh. "I didn't think that you would come here." Dean steps forward and extends his hand. "Dean. Older brother." She shakes his hand, Maeve watches with surprise as Dean turns towards her. "This is my girlfriend, Maeve." Even Rebecca and Sam looked shocked.

Everyone expected him to flirt with her, "Hi. I'm Rebecca." She breathed out with a small laugh as she shakes both of their hands. "We're here to help. Whatever we can do." Sam smiles at her, "Come in." They walk inside the house, and Dean shuts the door behind Maeve; not before giving her ass a slap. "Dean." She hissed with a raised eyebrow as he turns around with a wink. He laughs gently, placing his arm around her shoulder and moving with her further into the house. "Nice place." Dean hummed looking around with a nod, "It's my parents'. I was just crashing here for the long weekend when everything happened. I decided to take the semester off. I'm gonna stay until Zack's free." She explained to them, Maeve managed to break herself away from Dean who pouted lightly. Her eyes scanning the place, while his eyes scanned her.

"Where are your folks?" Sam asked his friend with a raised eyebrow, "They live in Paris for half the year, so they're on their way home now for the trial." They all enter the kitchen, "Do you guys want a beer or something?" Dean turns toward Maeve smiling. "Hey..." He goes to ask what she wants, only to have Sam interrupted him. "No, thanks. So, tell us what happened." Dean rolls his eyes at his brother as Maeve smirks. She approaches him, placing a kiss on his cheek as she moves to take a seat at the island. "Well, um, Zack came home, and he found Emily tied to a chair. And she was beaten up and bloody, and she wasn't breathing." She starts to cry.

"So, he called 911, and the policeβ€”they showed up, and they arrested him. But, the thing is, the only way that Zack could've killed Emily is if he was in two places at the same time. The policeβ€”they have a video. It's from the security tape from across the street. And it shows Zack coming home at 10:30. Now, Emily was killed just after that, but I swear, he was here with me, having a few beers until at least after midnight." She explained to Sam, his eyes filling with sympathy for the woman. "You know, maybe we could see the crime scene. Zack's house." Maeve speaks up, her voice gentle to keep the woman at ease. "We could." Dean shot Maeve a pointed look as she winked back in response.

"Why? I mean, what could you do?" Rebecca asked, wiping her eyes. "Well, me, not much. But Dean's a cop." Dean laughs awkwardly as he squints towards his brother. "Detective, actually." Dean corrects, with a fake smile. "Really?" Maeve and Dean nod, "Where?" She asked him with a frown of confusion. "Bisbee, Arizona. But I'm off-duty now, taking my beauty out on a date." He smiles towards Maeve who chuckles with a shake of her head. "You guys, it's so nice to offer, but I justβ€”I don't know." Rebecca murmured with a shake of her head. "Bec, look, I know Zack didn't do this. Now, we have to find a way to prove that he's innocent." Sam gives her a smile, "Okay. I'm gonna go get the keys." She walks away, down the hall.

"Oh, yeah, man, you're a real straight shot with your friends." Dean scoffs, looking towards his brother with a smartass smile. "Look, Zack and Becky need our help." Sam responds with a sigh, "I just don't think this is our kind of problem." Dean shakes his head as Maeve sneaks past them to scour the kitchen for a snack. "Two places at once? We've looked into less." Dean says nothing, defeated. Rebecca comes back in and clears her throat, giving Maeve a pointed look. Sam and Dean turn to face that direction, Maeve coughs lightly as she finishes off a Twinkie she had shoved in her mouth. "You might want to feed your lady, Dean. She's starving." Rebecca teased lightly as Maeve blushed; Dean just smirked towards her as Sam shot her a glare.

"My bad."

𝑴𝒂𝒆𝒗𝒆, 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒏, π‘Ίπ’‚π’Ž and Rebecca pull up to Zack's house and get out. Rebecca turns to Dean with a frown on her face, "You're sure this is okay?" She asked, "Yeah. I am an officer of the law." They walk to the house, Sam and Dean enter first and look around, Maeve coming in after them. The furniture and walls of the house are smeared with blood. Rebecca stays on the porch steps, "Bec, you wanna wait outside?" Sam asked as he turned back to face her. "No. I wanna help." She ducks under the police tape and enters the house behind them. "Tell us what else the police said." Sam demands gently as she nods with tears gathering in her eyes again. "Well, there's no sign of a break-in. They say that Emily let her attacker in. The Lawyersβ€”they're already talking about plea bargain." She looks around the room, crying. "Oh, God..."

"Look, Bec, if Zack didn't do this, it means someone else did. Any idea who?" Rebecca shakes her head, then begins to remember something. "Um, there was something, about a week before. Somebody broke in here and stole some clothesβ€”Zack's clothes. The policeβ€”they don't think it's anything. I mean, we're not that far from downtown. Sometimes people get robbed." Sam walks away, Dean moves to the open front door and sees the neighbor's dog, barking loudly. Maeve watches as Rebecca comes up behind him. "You know, that used to be the sweetest dog." Maeve frowns as she moves over to the door, "What happened?" Maeve asks as she moves past them towards the barking dog.

"He just changed." Rebecca breathed out, both of them watching as Maeve bent down across from the dog. She let out a breath before gently raising a hand to the fur baby, within a minute he was calmed down and wagging his tail at her. Dean gave her a smile, his eyes shining happily. "Do you remember when he changed?" Maeve asked, turning to face the woman who was watching with wide eyes. "I guess around the time of the murder." Dean looks at her, Maeve nods; standing up, both of them walking away from the woman and dog.

Sam is in the hallway, looking at a framed picture of himself, Zack, and Rebecca. Dean and Maeve walk over to him, "So, the neighbor's dog went psycho right around the time Zack's girlfriend was killed. Maeve worked her mojo on the dog and calmed him down." Maeve just gave him a shrug with a smile, Dean wraps his arm around her waist with a smirk. "My beautiful dog whisperer." She blushed as he kissed her on her forehead, "Animals can have a sharp sense of the paranormal." Sam replied with a raised eyebrow and a nod towards Maeve, his eyes full of knowing. "Yeah, maybe Fido saw somethin'." Dean insisted, Maeve nodded along with his words.

He did.

"So, you think maybe this is our kind of problem?" Sam asked his brothers raising an eyebrow, "No. Probably not. But we should look at the security tape, you know, just to make sure." Dean responded, "Yeah." Maeve replies with a smirk, "Yeah." Rebecca walks over to them. "So, the tape. The security footageβ€”you think maybe your Lawyers could get their hands on it, 'cause I just don't have that kind of jurisdiction." Dean raised a brow, looking towards the blonde. "I've already got it. I didn't wanna say something in front of the cop." Dean laughs, "I stole it off the Lawyer's desk. I just had to see it for myself." She responds, "All right." All four of them leave.

"Here he comes." The tape shows Zack entering his house, Dean takes notice of the timestamp. "22:04, that's just after ten. You said time of death was about 10:30." Dean frowns, his eyes making contact with Maeve who raised an eyebrow. "Our Lawyers hired some kind of video expert. He says the tape's authentic. It wasn't tampered with." Sam notices something on the tape, he turns to face his blonde friend. "Hey, Bec, can we take those beers now?" She frowns in confusion for a split second before nodding to Sam with a smile. "Oh, sure." She gets up to go to the kitchen, "Hey." She turns around. "Maybe some sandwiches, too?"

"What do you think this is, Hooters?" She leaves the room with a shake of her head. "I wish." Dean mutters, coughing slightly when Maeve smacks him on his chest. She gives him a look as he shifts, "I was kidding, babe. Jeez, we both know you're the only one I want to see that way." He winks at her before they move over to Sam. "What is it?" Dean asks, "Check this out." He rewinds the tape, then replays it. One of the frames shows Zack looking directly at the camera. His eyes are silver, Sam pauses the tape. "Well, maybe it's just a camera flare." Dean suggests with a shrug, Maeve and Sam shake their heads with frowns. "That's not like any camera flare I've ever seen. You know, a lot of cultures believe that a photograph can catch a glimpse of the soul."

"Right." Dean breathed out, "Remember that dog that was freakin' out? Maybe he saw this thing. Maybe this is some kind of dark double of Zack's, something that looks like him but isn't him." Sam explained to him with a raised eyebrow. "Like a Doppelganger." Maeve frowned, she's run into a lot of things in her lifetime but not one of these. "Yeah. It'd sure explain how he was two places at once." Sam breaths out, "Well, come on boys. We ain't gonna figure this out standing here with our thumbs up our asses." She smiled before walking out the door.

Just as Dean asks his brother, Maeve yawns gently. Dean smiles at her with a gentle look on his face, "I realized something. The videotape shows the killer goin' in, but not comin' out." Sam explains, "So, he came out the back door?" He leans against the hood of his car. "Right. So, there should be a trail to follow. A trail the police would never pursue." Maeve responds, giving the boys a pointed look. "'Cause they think the killer never left. And they caught your friend Zack inside. I still don't know what we're doin' here at 5:30 in the morning." Sam looks around the outside of the building, and notices blood smeared on a nearby telephone pole.

"Blood. Somebody came this way." Sam frowns as he turns towards the couple. "Yeah, but the trail ends. I don't see anything over here." An ambulance drives past them, and they exchange a look. They immediately start after the ambulance, making their way to another crime scene. They watch as an Asian man is handcuffed and is stepping into a police car. They watch in confusion as Dean turns to a nearby woman, "What happened?" He asked the woman, they all turned to listen to her response. "He tried to kill his wife. Tied her up and beat her." The trio gave each other looks, "Really?" Sam asks, his eyebrows raising sky high. "I used to see him going to work in the morning. He'd wave, say hello. He seemed like such a nice guy." They watch the man get taken away.

Later, Sam is on the side of the house, looking around. He looks inside two garbage cans but finds nothing. He moves to the front of the house, where Dean and Maeve come up behind him. "Hey." Sam turns around, "Remember when I said this wasn't our kind of problem?" Dean asks with a slight wince as Maeve shoots him a look, her arms crossing over her chest. "Yeah." Sam murmured slowly, "Definitely our kind of problem." Maeve replied with a sigh. "What'd you find out?" Maeve and Dean make eye contact with one another before he starts to speak. "Well, we just talked to the patrolman who was first on the scene, heard this guy, Alex's story. Apparently the dude was driving home from a business trip when his wife was attacked."

"So, he was two places at once." Sam breathes out with a frown, "Exactly. Then he sees himself in the house, police think he's a nutjob." Dean replies with a shrug, "Two dark doubles attacking loved ones in exactly the same way." Maeve stated as a point with a frown on her face, this was really starting to sound like something familiar. "Could be the same thing doin' it, too." Sam thinks for a second, "Shapeshifter?" Dean shrugs back. "Something that can make itself look like anyone?" Maeve's eyes widened in realization, she has never run into one before but it did make sense. She had more or less kept to herself in all the years she'd been around; with a few run ins with certain creatures. She did have to admit to herself, she has had more run ins with creatures now that's she's with the boys than ever before.

The most she's gotten is the Greek gods and other fellow gods slash mythical creatures like her.

"Every culture in the world has a shapeshifter lore. You know, legends of creatures who can transform themselves into animals or other men." Maeve speaks up, the brothers looking towards her with raised eyebrows. "Right, skinwalkers, werewolves." Sam nods in agreement, "We've got two attacks within blocks of each other. I'm guessin' we've got a shapeshifter prowlin' the neighborhood." Dean sighs with a slight hint of annoyance, he really was hoping this wasn't a job. "Let me ask you thisβ€”in all this shapeshifter lore, can any of them fly?" Sam questions the couple, looking between them. Maeve shakes her head with a frown, "Not that I know of." Dean responds, "I picked up a trail here. Someone ran out the back of this building and headed off this way." Sam explained. "Just like your friend's house."

"Yeah. And, just like at Zack's house, the trail suddenly ends. I mean, whatever it is just disappeared." Maeve looks down and lets out a small grunt, her eyes going to her shoes. "Well, there's another way to goβ€”down." Dean starts, Maeve immediately shakes her head. "No. No way. Look I may hunt with you boys; but I am not smelling like you too." They both look offended at her words before Sam rolls his eyes and bends down to pull the manhole cover off. "Fine, stay up here and keep watch, princess." Dean snips slightly, Maeve sticks her tongue out at him with a teasing look. Dean and Sam climb down the manhole and look around. "I bet this runs right by Zack's house, too. The shapeshifter could be using the sewer system to get around." Sam speaks up, Maeve bends down to listen better and watch them as they stand near the entrance. "I think you're right. Look at this." They bend down and examine a pile of blood and skin on the ground.

They are all disgusted at the sight, "Is this from his victims?" Dean takes out a pocketknife and holds up some of the skin. "You know, I just had a sick thought. When the shapeshifter changes shapeβ€”maybe it sheds." Dean utters out in disgust, "That is sick." Dean puts the bloody pile back on the ground. Maeve moves out of the way as the boys make their way up from the sewers. "Hey, sweetheart, want a hug?" Dean asked with a teasing smile as he opened his arms and moved towards her. She glares at him, backing away. "Dean, I will kick your ass. I don't care if I'm sleeping with you, I've done worse to my brother." She told him, giving him a pointed look causing him to let out a small laugh. "You have a brother?" She froze at the question from Sam, right guess she hadn't really shared that much.

"Yeah, adopted."

"What happened? You don't talk about him?"

"He's dead. He died a long time ago."

The brothers paused at her words, both of them sharing as sad look. "Sorry, sweetheart." Dean breathed out gently, his face sympathizing. She gives them both a smile, "Easy, boys. I'm fine. It was a really long time ago." Sam nods, Dean frowns at her words but doesn't say anything on it as he moves over to his car. Dean opens the trunk and takes out some weapons, "Changing the subject, one thing I learned from Dad, is that no matter what kind of shapeshifter it is, there's one sure way to kill it." Dean speaks up as he shifts through the trunk. "Silver bullet to the heart." Sam breathes out, Dean gives him a nod and holds up his gun. "That's right." Sam's cell phone rings, he moves to answer it. "This is Sam. We're near Zack's, we're just checkin' some things out. What are you talkin' about?" Sam suddenly scoffs, Dean and Maeve frowning at each other as they listen to one side of the phone call.

"Why would you do that? Bec... We're tryin' to help. Bec, I'm sorry, but..." She hangs up. Dean walks over to Sam, who looks disappointed. Maeve watches from behind them, "I hate to say it, but that's exactly what I'm talkin' about. You lie to your friends because if they knew the real you, they'd be freaked. It's justβ€”it'd be easier if..." Sam spins to face his brother with a glare, "If I was like you." He snipped in response. "Hey, man, like it or not, we are not like other people. But I'll tell you one thing. This whole gigβ€”it ain't without perks." He holds up a gun and grins. Sam takes it and puts it in the back of his jeans. They walk back over to Maeve with raised eyebrows, "What?"

Dean and Sam are looking around with their flashlights and guns, Maeve brings up the rear with her sword she always had on her and a disgusted look on her face. "I hate you too so much." She breaths out, Dean and Sam chuckling in front of her. "I think we're close to its lair." Dean breathes out with a frown on his face, "Why do you say that?" Sam asked with a raised eyebrow towards his brother. "Because there's another puke-inducing pile next to your face." Maeve points out, shining her light next to his face with a disgusted grimace. Sam turns and sees another pile of blood and skin on a nearby pipe. He backs away in horror, "Oh, God!" They look around the area and see a pile of clothes in a corner. "Looks like it's lived here for a while."

"Who knows how many murders he's gotten away with?" Sam turns and sees the shapeshifter, still in the form of the Asian man, standing behind Dean. "Dean!" Dean turns and gets punched by the shapeshifter. Maeve takes a swing, the damn thing dodges her before slamming her against the wall. She lets out a yell as she slides down the wall and falls to the ground, and the shapeshifter runs away. Sam shoots after it a few times but misses, he moves over to Dean who is trying to stand up and make his way to Maeve. "Damn, I'm rusty as hell. My ass just got kicked." She uttered out as the boys moved to help her up. "Let's get the son of a bitch!" Maeve, Sam and Dean run away, following the shapeshifter.

The shapeshifter comes out of the manhole and runs away. Seconds later, Sam, Dean and Maeve come out and look around. "All right, let's split up." Sam breathes out, "All right, I'll meet you around the other side." Dean nodded to his brother, Maeve looks between them before sighing with a nod. "I'll take the third route, meet you boys back." She gives Dean a kiss on the cheek before taking off in another direction. Her eyes scanning the area around her, cars and people taking in the background is the only thing she could hear. Her eyes seeing nothing, but normal around her, "Man, it's times like this when I wish I had my powers." She mumbled lowly, letting out another sigh. It wasn't here.

She makes her way back to the alley where Sam is already waiting, Dean comes up behind them. "Hey." Sam turns around, Maeve immediately tenses up at the sight of him. "Anything?" That wasn't Dean at all, "No. He's gone." Sam frowns as he notices Maeve back away from the man. That was an immediate clue, "All right, let's get back to the car." Sam crosses the street. Dean stops, waiting for a passing car to drive by. As the car passes, Dean's eyes momentarily glow silver. Maeve turns to face Sam who gives her a nod in return, she makes sure to stay near Sam. The shifter didn't seem to care much about the fact that she wasn't all over him like normal. The trio finally stop at the car, "You think he found another way underground?" Maeve speaks up with a cock of her head. "Yeah, probably. You got the keys?" Sam stops and thinks before turning around.

"Hey, didn't Dad once face a shapeshifter in San Antonio?" Sam asked, raising a brow his words full of lies as he tries to trick the shapeshifter. "Oh, that was Austin. It turned out not to be a shapeshifter, it was a thought form. A psychic projection, remember?" Fake Dean smiled towards his brother, Sam laughs with a nod. "Oh, right. Here ya go." He throws the shapeshifter the keys and walks away. The shapeshifter opens the trunk and observes all the weapons. He laughs, "Don't move!" The shapeshifter turns and sees Sam pointing the gun at him. He looks to his left to see Maeve staring him down as well with her sword pointed in his direction. "What have you done with him?" She hissed with a glare.

"Baby, chill. It's me, all right?" She let out a scoff, "No, I don't think so. Dean doesn't call me baby, so where is he?" She hissed in annoyance, her eyes flashing in anger. "You're about to stab him. Sam, tell her to calm down." The shifter demands with a glare, "You caught those keys with your left. Your shoulder was hurt." Sam responds with a frown, the gun cocking. "Yeah, it's better. What do you want me to do, cry?" Fake Dean demands with a scoffed laugh, it was almost a thing the real Dean would say. "You're not my brother." Sam growls, "Why don't you pull the trigger, then? Hm? 'Cause you're not sure. Dude, you two know me." Maeve lets out a sarcastic laugh, "Don't." The shapeshifter pauses before hitting Sam twice with a crowbar. Sam falls to the ground, Maeve quickly spins into action.

Her and the shifter clank their weapons together as they tussle, as Maeve swings her sword; the shifter ducks before using his fist to punch her in her jaw. She grunts in pain, spinning around and side kicking him back. He stumbles back with a grunt, letting out a laugh; he stands straight up. "All right, sweetie. Let's have some fun."

I've never seen moves like those, but then again I should know all about your moves, baby." She glares up at him as Sam groans, "Can we not talk about their sex life." Sam utters out as Maeve laughs, the shifter turning towards him with a shrug. "What can I say, I've got all the best stuff in here." He points to his head before turning back to face Maeve, "Come on, sweetie. How about a kiss?" He grabs her face; moving it forward in a forced manner. "Hey!" Sam shouts before he could kiss her, "Where is he? Where's Dean?"

"I wouldn't worry about him. I'd worry about you." The shifter smirks between them, Sam makes eye contact with Maeve who is squirming around trying to get herself out. If she moved in just the right spot, she could use her bracelet; a snake charm bracelet that turns into a staff or a knife. It comes in handy in situations like this, she may carry around a sword and have an epiphany for creating weapons, but her treasure was this bracelet. "Where is he?" Sam asks with a glare, "You don't really wanna know." He chuckles. "I swear, the more I learn about you and your familyβ€”I thought I came from a bad background." The shifter winks at him, "What do you mean, learn?" The shapeshifter stops. He grabs his head in pain and grimaces, Sam looks at the shapeshifter, confused. The shapeshifter relaxes and looks at Sam, his eyes moving back and forth between him and Maeve.

"He's sure got issues with you. You got to go to college. He had to stay home. I mean, I had to stay home. With Dad. You don't think I had dreams of my own? But Dad needed me. Where the hell were you? Let's not forget about this secret you two have together. What's so important, you're lying to me about? I deserve to know, you sleeping with my little brother?"

Maeve suddenly bursts into laughter, "Really? That's what he thinks, sorry but I wouldn't do something like that and Dean knows it. So if he's around here listening, he needs to quit being an untrusting little shit and be patient until I'm ready to tell him." She rants in annoyance, as the shifter watches her with a raised eyebrow. "You done?" She huffs, "Yeah, I'm done." She grumbles out, her head resting back against the post. "Where is my brother?" The shapeshifter leans in close to Sam. "I am your brother. See, deep down, I'm just jealous. You got friends. You could have a life. Me? I know I'm a freak. And sooner or later, everybody's gonna leave me. Especially, you Maeve. We all know you're too good for me, so let's not play games." He backs away, "What are you talkin' about?" Maeve and Sam ask together with frowns on their faces.

"You left. Hell, I did everything Dad asked me to, and he ditched me, too. No explanation, nothin', just poof. Left me with your sorry ass. But, still, this life? It's not without its perks." He laughs, his eyes meeting Maeve's "I meet the nicest people. Like little Becky. You know, Dean would bang her if he had the chance. Let's see what happens." He winks at her, before smiling at Sam and coving him with a sheet. He turns back to Maeve, "You know, he's just using you right? You're just a piece of ass he can bring with him. Don't worry he'll get tired of you sooner or later." He pats her cheek with a sarcastic smile, then turns to leave.

Sam is trying to get out of his ropes but fails, Maeve however has better luck as she manages to cut the ropes. "I've got it, hold on a second." Maeve mutters as she wiggles out of them. They hear movement in another area of the room, and someone coughing. Maeve paused as she listens, her eyes turning in that direction as Sam tries to see who it is. "That better be you, Sam, and not that freak of nature." Sam laughs, "Yeah, it's me." Dean manages to uncover himself from the sheet and starts to undo his ropes. "He went to Rebecca's, lookin' like you." Dean frowns as he tries to look around, "Where's Maeve?" Maeve is currently untying Sam. "I'm right here." She murmurs gently, Dean lets out a breath of relief. "Thank god. Well, he's not stupid. He picked the handsome one." Sam gives him a confused look, they move over to Dean to help him out of his ropes.

"Yeah, that's the thing. He didn't just look like you, he was you. Or he was becoming you." Sam explains as they help Dean up, "What do you mean?" Dean asks with a frown as he looks between them. "I don't know, it was like he was downloading your thoughts and memories." Maeve sighs, her body pulling away from Dean causing him to frown at her. "You mean, like the Vulcan mind meld?" He asked, raising a brow at them. "Yeah, somethin' like that. I mean, maybe that's why he doesn't just kill us." Maeve collects the weapon the shifter had thrown off to the side before they turn towards the exit. "Maybe he needs to keep us alive. Psychic connection." Dean explains with a shrug, "Hands. Yeah. Come on, we gotta go. He's probably at Rebecca's already."

The trio make their way out onto the street, "Come on. We gotta find a phone, call the police." Sam stated, Dean immediately comes to a stop and grabs his brother by the arm. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You're gonna put an APB out on me." Sam shrugs, "Sorry." Dean scoffs with an eye roll as Maeve sighs. "Come on, boys. This way." They start running down the street, Maeve leading them to the first payphone they come up too. Sam immediately goes to call the police on the shifter to save his friends life.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 π’•π’“π’Šπ’ π’Šπ’” standing in front of a store window, watching a news report that is being shown on a display of televisions. "An anonymous tip led police to a home in the Central West End, where a S.W.A.T team discovered a local woman bound and gagged. Her attacker, a white male, approximately twenty-four to thirty years of age, was discovered hiding in her home." A sketch of Dean appears on the screen. "Man! That's not even a good picture." Sam looks around cautiously as Maeve cocks her head at the picture. She raised an eyebrow, "It's a good likeness." She utters out, "She's right. It's good enough." They walk away, with Dean following after them. "Man!" They continue walking down a dark alley, Dean stepping into a puddle. "Come on." He pauses, "They said attempted murder. At least we know..." Sam sighs in relief as Maeve gives him a small smile.

Dean frowns at his woman, she hasn't been the same since the sewer. She isn't talking much to him, won't let him touch her either. "I didn't kill her. Well, shifter me anyway." Dean mutters gently, "We'll check with Rebecca in the morning, see if she's all right." Maeve scoffed lightly at Sam's words, she severely doubted that Rebecca would want to be anywhere near them. "All right, but first I wanna find that handsome devil and kick the holy crap out of him." They stop walking, "We have no weapons. No silver bullets." Maeve cleared her throat, "Well I got my sword." She held it up with a smile, Sam and Dean smiled towards her. "Sam, the guy's walkin' around with my face, okay, it's a little personal, I wanna find him."

"Okay. Where do we look?" Sam asked, raising a brow at his brother.

"Well, we could start with the sewers." Dean shrugged back, "We have no weapons. He stole our guns, we need more." They pause to think. "The car?" Sam asked, "I'm bettin' he drove over to Rebecca's." Maeve responds as she crossed her arms over her chest. "The news said he fled on foot. I bet it's still parked there." Dean shakes his head upset, "The thought of him drivin' my car." Dean shivers at the thought. "All right, come on." They start walking again with heavy hearts, Maeve didn't say another word as the continued forward. "It's killin' me."

"Let it go."

𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒏, 𝑴𝒂𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 π‘Ίπ’‚π’Ž walk around the side of the house and see Dean's car parked. He immediately looks relieved at the sight of it. "Oh, there she is! Finally, something went right tonight." A police car appears and parks next to Dean's car. "Oh, crap." They turn around, but another police car is parked a few yards away, "This way, this way." He moves them towards a fence. "You go. I'll hold 'em off." Maeve and Dean turn to Sam who nods in reassurance towards them. "What are you talking about? They'll catch you." Dean insists with a frown, "Look, they can't hold me. Just go, keep out of sight. Meet me at Rebecca's." Dean sighs before nodding, he moves to help Maeve over the fence then starts to climb the fence himself. "Dean." Dean stops and turns around, "Stay out of the sewers alone." Dean says nothing and hops over the fence. "I mean it!"

"Yeah, yeah!" Dean shouts as he jumps over, quickly grabbing Maeve's hand and pulling her along. "Come on, sweetheart." Maeve didn't say a word as she followed after her lover. Five minutes later, the round the corner again back to the impala. Dean walks up to it, immediately getting into the trunk. "So are you going to tell me what's wrong." Dean starts as he gives Maeve a look with a frown, she looks away. "I don't know..." He stops her, spinning around to shoot her a look. "Don't give me that crap, you've been ignoring me since the sewer. What's wrong?" She sighs again before looking towards him, "Am I just a toy for you?" She asks gently, her voice softer than normal. She really didn't want his answer, she was afraid of it. "What? How could you even think that?" He asks with a look of hurt on his face.

"The shifter..." He scoffs before she could finish her sentence, "The shifter wanted to get under your skin. Look." He moves closer to grab her hands, "I don't normally sleep and string along, I sleep and dash. I don't tell women the truth; I'm a player." She went to pull her hands away, "Stop. Listen. I was a player, you've been the best thing to happen to me in a long time. I'm not playing games with you, you're it and if you'll have me; it would make me extremely happy. I know you have secrets, I know you're hiding something from me and that's ok because I know when you're ready; you'll tell me. I trust you." He says softly, his hands tightening in hers as tears roll down her cheeks. She lets out a small laugh in relief, quickly pulling her hands back; she wipes her eyes. "You suck, Dean Winchester." She breathes out, pulling him into a deep kiss.

He slowly pulls away with a smile, "So we good?" He asked with a laugh, "Yeah, let's go get this monster." Dean nods in response, as Maeve kisses him once more and reaches in the trunk to get ready for the fight. "I'm sorry, Sam. But you know meβ€”I just can't wait." He closes the trunk and they walk away, heading back to the sewer where it all started. Dean and Maeve are looking around, they come across a chamber filled with candles and chains. Revolting piles of skin and blood are on the floor. Maeve gags lightly as they hear a noise and move over to another area of the sewer. Dean makes eye contact with Maeve who nods back when they see a large figure covered with a sheet.

Dean reaches down and removes it, both of them look surprised at the sight of Rebecca. Her hands and feet are bound together with rope. "Rebecca?" They breathe out together in shock, that wasn't good at all. Dean quickly moves to remove the ropes from her hands and feet. "What happened?" Maeve asked her gently, Rebecca is crying. "I was walking home, and everything just went white. Someone hit me over the head, and I wound up here just in time to see that thing turn into me. I don't know, how is that even possible?" She asks in horror, "Okay, okay. It's okay." He finishes untying her, "Come on. Can you walk?" She nods. "Okay, we've gotta hurry. Sam went to see you."

"Come on, Sam is in trouble." Maeve breathes out as she helps Dean with Rebecca; the three of them making their way back out and towards the impala where they quickly made their way to the blonde woman's home.

𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑴𝒂𝒆𝒗𝒆 rush inside the house to see the shapeshifter pin Sam to the floor and start to choke him. Dean immediately moves forwards to save his brother. "Hey!" The shapeshifter sees Dean and gets off of Sam. Dean aims his gun at the shapeshifter and shoots him in the heart twice. The shapeshifter falls to the ground, dead. Rebecca enters the house behind the couple and sees Sam on the floor. "Sam!" Both females rush towards Sam to help him up as Dean walks to the shapeshifter's body and notices him wearing Dean's necklace. Dean yanks it from around the shapeshifter's neck and nods knowingly at the three people looking back at him.

A few hours later, the sun has risen and Dean is by the car, looking at a map. Maeve sits on the hood, her face pulled into a smile as Dean kept trying to swat her off his baby. Sam watches them with a smile as Rebecca comes up to talk to him, "So, this is what you do? You and your brotherβ€”you hunt down these kinds of things?" She asked him with a raised eyebrow as her eyes moved to the couple. Dean having dragged Maeve off, the woman laughing as her legs wrapped around Dean's waist. "Yeah, pretty much." Sam utters out, looking towards his college friend. "I can't believe it. I mean, I saw it with my own eyes. And, I mean, does everybody at schoolβ€”nobody knows that you do this?" She asked him, "No." Sam responds with a shake of his head. "Did Jessica know?" Sam looks thoughtful. "No, she didn't."

"Must be lonely." She breathes out, "Oh, no. No, it's not so bad. We've got Maeve. Anyway, what can I do? It's my family. She's my family too." She laughs as Sam grimaces at the sight of the couple now passionately making out on the hood of the impala. "Well, you know, Zack and me, and everybody at schoolβ€”we really miss you." She hugs him, "Yeah, me too." They pull away. "Well, will you call sometime?" Sam gives her a tight smile, the friends turning again towards the couple that have pulled away and are looking towards them. "It might not be for a little while." Rebecca nods and waves goodbye to Maeve and Dean, they wave back, and she goes back inside the house.

Sam walks over to the car, "So, what about your friend, Zack?" Maeve slips off the hood as Dean folds up the map. "Cops are blamin' this Dean Winchester guy for Emily's murder. They found the murder weapon in the guy's lair, Zack's clothes stained with her blood. Now they're thinking maybe the surveillance tape was tampered with. Yeah, Becca says Zack will be released soon." He smiles teasingly at his brother, Dean rolls his eyes moving to open the door for Maeve who quickly slips in and then gets in the car himself. Dean starts the car with a cocky smirk towards Maeve who gives him a smile back. "Sorry, man." Dean starts out, a few minutes into the drive. "About what?"

"I really wish things could be different, you know? I wish you could just be...Joe College." Sam snorts softly at his brother's words, Maeve doesn't say a word as her body moves into a laying position. She was exhausted. "No, that's okay. You know, the truth is, even at Stanford, deep down, I never really fit in." Sam tells Dean with a shake of his head, "Well, that's 'cause you're a freak." Dean snipped back sarcastically giving his brother a quick pat on the shoulder. "Yeah, thanks." Sam mutters dryly with an eye roll. "Well, I'm a freak, too and so is Maeve. We're right there with ya, all the way." Dean smirks towards his brother, "I heard that." Maeve mutters out tiredly, as Sam laughs.

"Yeah, I know you are."

"You know, I gotta sayβ€”I'm sorry I'm gonna miss it."

"Miss what?"

"How many chances am I gonna have to see my own funeral?"

He and Sam smile at each other, Dean glancing back at Maeve with a gentle look in his eyes as he continues to drive onwards.
