π¨ ππππ πππππ, Maeve and Sam are looking at a map laid out on top of the car, Dean has his phone to his ear. "Ok. I think I found a way we can bypass that construction just east of here. We might even make Pennsylvania faster than we thought." Maeve nods in agreement as Sam points down at the map. Dean slowly lowers his phone, his eyes scanning over Maeve as she looks over at him with a smile. She frowns, however, when she notices the look on his face as he slowly moves over to them. "Yeah. Problem is, we're not going to Pennsylvania." Maeve looks confused by his words as Sam turns to face his brother with a glare. "We what?" Sam asks, "I just got a call from an, uh, old friend. Her father was killed last night, think it might be our kind of thing." Maeve flinches slightly at his words, her heart slightly breaking at the look on his face. "What?" She breaths out, Dean hates the look she was giving him. He wanted to pull her in close and hold her tightly, but he wasn't sure he could. "Yeah. Believe me, she never woulda called, never, if she didn't need us." Maeve scoffs and shakes her head, she quickly moves to climb into the impala. Dean flinched when Sam shoots him a glare before he climbs into the Impala. "Come on, are you coming or not?"
An hour later, Impala cruises down the road, fields on one side, a lake on the other. The trio sat in awkward silence, before Sam hesitantly spoke up. "By old friend you mean...?" Maeve flinches at his words, Dean shoots his brother a glare. "A friend that's not new." Sam scoffs with a glare, he knows this is hurting Maeve, but they needed to know what was going on. "Oh yeah, thanks. So her name's Cassie huh? You never mentioned her.." Sam utters out, as Dean awkwardly clears his throat. "Didn't I?" A long pause, Sam looks at Dean expectantly. His look makes Dean look in the rear view mirror to Maeve who was also looking at him, hurt shining in her pretty brown eyes. He sighs, "Yeah, we went out." Dean utters out with a shrug, to be honest he really didn't remember her much. All he cared about now was Maeve, and he would prove it when this was over.
"You mean you dated somebody other than Maeve? For more than one night." Sam looks utterly shocked, Maeve couldn't help and smile at the look on his face. She knew Dean was more of a one night stand man, but she also knew that he hasn't so much as looked at another woman since they started going out. "Am I speaking a language you're not getting here? Dad and I were working a job in Ohio, she was finishing up college. We went out for a coupla weeks, that's it. I hardly remember her, it wasn't all that important." Dean speaks up, his eyes meeting Maeve's in the mirror as he tries to reassure her. "And...?" Dean shrugs slightly, "Look, it's terrible about her dad, but it kinda sounds like a standard car accident. I'm not seeing how it fits with what we do. Which by the way, how does she know what we do?" Dean looks shifty as Maeve gaps at him, Sam takes notice of her face as he turns towards his brother. "You told her. You told her, the secret! Our big family rule number one. We do what we do and we shut up about it. For a year and a half; I do nothing but lie to Jessica, and you go out with this chick in Ohio a coupla times and you tell her everything?" Dean stays silent, staring straight ahead.
"Dean!" Sam snaps towards him in anger, his eyes glaring as his face pulls a shocked look. "Yeah. Looks like." He continues staring ahead and put's his foot down. Sam does the bitchface, shaking his head, Maeve looks down at her hands with tears gathering within. She really didn't like where this trip was heading, Dean glances back at her; his eyes full of sadness and love. He really wanted to tell her that Cassie didn't mean anything to him anymore, he just couldn't bring himself to do it.
ππππππππ
π»ππ ππππ ππππππ ππ ππππ, heading straight to the news paper office where they would be meeting up with Cassie. Dean pulls the impala into park, his eyes moving towards Maeve who gives him a forced smile. Sam watches with a sad look, the trio climbing out and heading inside in silence. They enter the office to see a young dark skinned female standing next to an older dark skinned man and a white man. Clearly, they were arguing. "Jimmy, you're too close to this. Those guys were friends of yours. Again, Cassie, I'm very sorry for your loss." The Mayor leaves, Jimmy walks away. Cassie sighs and turns around, looking straight at Dean. Looking slightly apprehensive, Dean nods at her. Maeve watches as Cassie stares at Dean with heart eyes, her face pulls downward as Dean shifts uncomfortably and moves slightly against her. "Dean." Cassie breaths out, the couple flinches as Dean moves to grab Maeve's hand. "Hey, Cassie." He speaks up, his voice stern; Cassie immediately takes notice of his gesture. Raising a brow, she looks Maeve up and down with a judgmental look. Maeve shifts slightly, suddenly feeling extremely insecure under her gaze.
Dean takes notice and pulls Maeve into his side, "This is my beautiful girlfriend, Maeve." He smiles widely as Maeve blushes, she looks up at him with a thankful smile and he takes the opportunity to lean down and give her a kiss. Sam watches, smiling to himself, before clearing his throat when the couple starts to get a little more heated. Dean pulls away with a smirk, both of them breathless as Cassie watches with a jealous frown. Dean turns to her with a smile, "This is my brother, Sam." Cassie smiles at Sam, who returns one of his own. Her gaze returns to Dean, her eyes shining with expectation. "Sorry bout your dad." Dean utters out awkwardly, Cassie frowns in disappointment. "Yeah. Me too." Cassie keeps staring at Dean as they move to leave the building. "Come on, I'll make you some tea." Cassie says as she places her hand on Dean's arm. Dean gives an awkward laugh, his body twisting around as he shifts away from her. Maeve, Sam and Dean make their way back to impala to follow Cassie back to her house.
ππππππππ
π°ππππ π πͺπππππ'π ππππ, the trio sit as she comes in carrying a tray of tea and cups. "My mother's in pretty bad shape. I've been staying with her. I wish she wouldn't go off by herself. She's been so nervous and frightened. She was worried about dad..." Cassie paused, her eyes scanning over Dean who leans back and wraps his arm around Maeve's waist. "Why?" Dean asks, making it a point that this was strictly business. Maeve smiles to herself as she takes note of his actions. Cassie sighs and starts pouring the tea, "He was scared. He was seeing things." She explained to them, Sam frowns in confusion as he sits up. "Like what?" He asks, his face pulling into his puppy dog look. "He swore he saw an awful-looking black truck following him." She explained, her eyes trailing over to Dean again. "A truck. Who was the driver?" Sam asks, she hands them cups of tea. "He didn't talk about a driver. Just the truck. He said it would appear and disappear. And, in the accident, Dad's car was dented, like it had been slammed into by something big."
Sam smiles, accepting his cup. "Thanks. Now you're sure this dent wasn't there before?" Maeve doesn't receive one as Dean looks at his cup of tea like it's an alien, and quickly deposits it on a side table. He didn't want his if Maeve wasn't going to get any, he really didn't appreciate the way Cassie was acting. "He sold cars. Always drove a new one. There wasn't a scratch on that thing. It had rained hard that night. There was mud everywhere. There was a distinct set of muddy tracks leading from dad's car...leading right to the edge, where he went over." Cassie bows her head, getting her emotions under control. "One set of tracks. His." Dean frowns at her words, sounded like a ghost problem. "The first was a friend of your father's?" Dean asked, Cassie immediately perks up at his question. "Best friend. Clayton Soames. They owned the car dealership together. Same thing. Dent. No Tracks. And the cops said exactly what they said about dad. He 'lost control of his car.'" Cassie explains to the trio as they watch her. "Can you think of any reason why your father and his partner might be targets?" Maeve finally spoke up, the brothers looked shocked, but didn't say anything.
"No." Cassie's voice came off as firm, but she held a sad expression on her face. "And you think this vanishing truck ran them off the road?" Sam asked, his head cocking to the side in confusion. "When you say it aloud like that...listen, I'm a little sceptical about this...ghost stuff...or whatever it is you guys are into." Dean huffs with a slight glare in her direction, "Skeptical. If I remember, I think you said I was nuts." Maeve frowns as she looks between them. "That was then." Cassie breaths out, her eyes holding hope as she stares him down. The four sit in an awkward silence as Dean turns away from her with an upset and uncomfortable expression. "I just know that I can't explain what happened up there. So I called you." There was the sound of a door opening, a middle aged woman enters. Maeve, Sam and Dean rise to their feet, Cassie goes to take the woman's arm. "Mom. Where have you been I was so..." Her mother interrupted Cassie as she looked over the trio. "I had no idea you'd invited friends over."
"Mom, this is Dean, a...friend of mine from... college, his uh...girlfriend, Maeve and his brother Sam." Cassie smiles at Dean, Sam grimaces slightly at her words as Maeve ignores it. She really didn't care to respond at this point, the woman had made it clear that she was looking for a booty call with Dean and she wasn't going to take no for an answer. Maeve needed to know what Dean wanted, if she was who he really wanted and that meant finally telling him. She just wasn't sure how she would, it's been months since she's been with them after all. Much longer than she had thought, "Well, I won't interrupt you." Cassie's mother broke Maeve from her thoughts as Dean gave the woman a sympathetic smile. "Mrs Robinson. We're sorry for your loss. We'd like to talk to you for a minute if you don't mind?" She frowns at him, slightly affronted. "I'm really not up for that right now." She leaves the room, those remaining look at each other.
Soon the trio leaves the house, going to stay in a motel near by.
ππππππππ
π΄ππππ πππ π«πππ πππ yet to talk since the night before, the trio all passing out as soon as they got into their room. After driving for hours and then getting straight into the case, they were all exhausted. Maeve had gotten up before the boys to take a shower the next morning, the moment she got out; they had to leave again. Another person had been killed along the same stretch of road as Cassie's dad. It doesn't take long for them to arrive, they all climb out of the impala and make their way towards Cassie who had just finished yelling at the mayor about this incident. "Did the cops check for additional dinting on Jimmy's car, see if it was pushed?" Dean asked the man, Cassie immediately perks up at the sight of him while the Mayor glares in response. He turns to Cassie with a frown, "Who's this?" Cassie smiles, "Dean and Sam Winchester and uh... Sorry, forgot your name." Maeve gives her a smile as she turns to the Mayor and holds out her hand. "I'm Maeve, Dean's girlfriend." The Mayor smiles back and shakes her hand. "Family friends. This is Mayor Harold Todd." Cassie finishes McDonald's her body slowly inching closer to Dean who shifts to the other side of his brother, standing next to Maeve.
"There's one set of tire tracks. One. Doesn't point to foul play." The Mayor sighs out, turning back to Cassie who shoots him an annoyed look. "Mayor, the police and town officials take their cues from you. If you're indifferent about..." Dean and Maeve look slightly shocked at her blunt words, Sam coughing awkwardly. "Indifferent!" The Mayor growls out in anger, "Would you close the road if the victims were white?" Maeve scoffs under her breath with a shake of her head. It always leads there, no matter what; it's always made about race or gender or even your sexual orientation. Why couldn't humans just get along? Why did there always have to be some sort of reason? She couldn't understand it, even after all these years. "You suggesting I'm racist Cassie? I'm the last person you should talk to like that." He snips at her, she flinches slightly, but doesn't back down. "And why is that?" She asks, crossing her arms over her chest. "Why don't you ask your mother." The Mayor walks away, leaving them standing in the field.
Back at the motel room, Sam stands in trousers, shirt and tie, picking up a suit jacket. "I'll say this for her, she's fearless." Dean sighs from his spot next to the bathroom door as he waits on Maeve, also in a suit, "Mm-hmm." He gives Sam a look, just as Maeve walks out in her skirt and dress shirt. Dean gulps lightly and shifts, his pants suddenly growing tighter at the sight of her. "Man, you're whipped." Dean shoots Sam a glare as he hands Maeve his tie. Even if she was mad at him, or things were awkward between them; she still always fixed his tie for him. Sam watches with a small smile, he was happy his brother found someone; he really hoped they get past whatever this is. "So, do you think she's gonna keep trying to make advances on you, because it's just getting weird now." Sam couldn't help bring it up, Maeve pauses for a moment which caused Dean to shoot his brother a nasty glare. "You think we might have more pressing issues here?" Maeve finishes up with his tie, grabbing her jacket and moving towards the door. "You're a jerk-face." She grunts out, playfully pushing Sam who lets out a small snicker. "Let's go." Dean grunts out, quickly following after her like a puppy.
Sam smiles, shaking his head as he closes the door behind himself.
ππππππππ
π»ππ ππππ ππππππ ππ πππ π ππππ, Medusa, Dean and Sam walk down a pier. A few people are fishing as they approach two older men having lunch. Sam moves forward with a smile, "Excuse me. Are you Ron Stubbins?" Ron nods, smiling up at Maeve as he makes eye contact with her. Dean shifts unconsciously as he moves in front of her slightly. "You were friends with Jimmy Anderson?" Dean asks, his eyes shoot the man a pointed look; Sam smirks at the jealous look on his face. Maeve smiles to herself as well, "Who are you?" Ron asks the trio. "We're Mr Anderson's insurance company. We're just here to dot 'I's' and cross 'T's'." Maeve tells them with a smile, she could get away with anything with that smile. "We were just wondering, had the deceased mentioned any unusual recent experiences?" Sam asks, the brothers taking note of the sudden change in the older men's attention and attitude. "What do you mean, unusual?" Ron asks them, his face pulling into confusion. "Well visions, halluinations." Sam raises a brow at the two men, Dean giving them a small awkward smile. "It's part of a medical examination kind of thing. All very standard."
Ron scoffs as he turns to glare at them with suspicion, "What company did you say you were with?" Dean reaches in his coat pocket and half pulls out a piece of paper. "All National Mutual." He slips in back inside without letting them get a good look. "Tell me, did he ever mention seeing a truck? A big black truck?" Maeve immediately takes notice of the other man's face. The look of familiarity and slight terror comes onto him. "What the hell you talking about? You even speaking English?" Ron snaps as the other man speaks up, "Son this truck, a big scary monster looking thing?" Ron looks towards his friend in confusion, he couldn't believe his friend was buying into this bullshit. "Yeah actually, I think so." Dean states with a nod, the man sighs. "Hmm." Maeve frowns as she raises a brow at him. "What?" She asks gently, cocking her head to the side. "I have heard of a truck like that." He replies to her, Sam perks up. "You have. Where?" He asks the gentleman who looked up at them. "Not where. When. Back in the '60s there was a string of deaths. Black men. Story goes, they disappeared in a big, nasty, black truck."
"They ever catch the guy who did it?" Maeve asks, the guy sighs and shakes his head. "Never found him. Hell, not sure they even really looked. See there was a time, this town wasn't too friendly to all its citzens." Sam smiles, nodding kindly to the old men. "Thank you." Maeve, Sam and Dean make their way back down the pier to the Impala. "Truck." Dean utters out, raising a brow towards his brother. "Keeps coming up doesn't it?" Sam replies with a nod, Maeve hums lightly. "You know, I was thinking. You heard of the flying dutchman?" Maeve and Sam look at him in confusion, "Yeah, a ghost ship, infused with the Captain's evil spirit. It was basically part of him." Sam responds, Dean nods back. "So what if we're dealing with the same thing? You know, a phantom truck, an extension of some bastard's ghost, re-enacting past crimes." Dean explains to the pair as they nodded along in agreement. "The victims have all been black men." Maeve speaks up, her eyes looking between the brothers. "I think it's more than that. They all seem connected to Cassie and her family."
"All right. Well, you two work that angle, go talk to her." Sam says, Maeve gives him a slightly hurt look as Dean glares. "Yeah, we will." Dean remains obstinately silent as Sam stares at him. Another moment passes before Sam sighs, "Dean, what is going on between you two?" Maeve flinches lightly as her eyes turn towards Dean. He sighs, his own eyes meeting hers; "All right, so maybe we were a little bit more involved than I said." Maeve and Sam stare at Dean, waiting. Her heart pounding slightly in worry, is this where he tells her it's over? "Oh, Ok." Sam mutters out sarcastically. "OK, a lot more. Maybe. And I told her our secret, about what we do. And I shouldn't have." Dean snarls in anger, disappointed in himself for even allowing Cassie to grow close to him. The only person he ever wanted to get that close to him ever again is standing right in front of him. "Ah look man, everybody's gotta open up to someone sometime. I mean, you've got Maeve now, right." Sam responds with a smile, his eyes turning to Maeve who gives a small one back.
"Yeah, I don't. It was stupid to get that close. I mean, look how it ended." Sam gives Dean a pointed look, slightly gesturing to Maeve. Maeve looks down, her heart breaking at his words. Right. She wasn't anything to him, not in that way at least. "Did you loved her?" Sam asks with a gentle voice as Maeve turns away towards the impala. "Oh God." Dean turns to the Impala as well, he moves to open the door for Maeve, but she doesn't allow him too. "You were in love with her, but you dumped her." Dean is silent. He stares at Maeve, who now sat in the impala. He glances at Sam, then looks back to the ground. "Oh wow. She dumped you." Sam gapped in shock, his eyes filling with sympathy and slight anger at the woman. His eyes turn to Medusa who sat quietly in the impala, "You know she loves you, and she won't deny you." Sam mutters lowly, Dean flinches slightly as he turns to look towards Maeve. He looks back to Sam with a small smile, "I know, but we need to get through this and then we'll figure it out." Dean replies to his brother who sighs with a small nod.
"Now, get in the car." He grumbles, getting in himself. Sam climbs in with a small smile, he couldn't wait until they admitted that they loved one another.
ππππππππ
π΄ππππ πππ π«πππ ππππ ππ ππ the house, they sit in silence for a moment. "I'm gonna check the area." Maeve moves to get out, Dean quickly stops her. "Hey, we're ok, right? It's you and me." Dean tells her gently, his eyes shining as he grips her hand. She gives him a smile, quickly pulling him into a kiss. "We're ok. I'll be in shortly." They kiss for a bit longer before they separate, Dean heading inside as Maeve moves around the outside of the house. She didn't know why she was scanning the area, she guessed it was because she needed a moment. She slowly makes her way inside the house, frowning when she hears shouting. "It was the truth Cassie, and I notice it didn't sound insane the minute you thought I could help you." Maeve slowly rounds the corner, watching them in silence. "Well back then I thought you just wanted to dump me." Cassie speaks up, her eyes trailing over Dean. "Whoa! Now let's not forget who dumped who ok?" He snapped in anger, "I thought it was what you wanted. I didn't mean to hurt you." Cassie cried out, her eyes suddenly meeting Maeve's in the mirror.
"Well you did." Dean responds with a scoff, shaking his head. "I'm sorry!" She snaps, Maeve goes to move forward, but paused when she sees Dean's face. "Well, I'm not, I'm glad you broke my heart because in doing so; I've met the woman of my dreams and she has made me a better person than you ever could." Cassie flinches at his words, Maeve's eyes widened as tears gathered in them. Her heart soaring at his words, he really was someone she didn't deserve. They stare at each other, Dean shakes his head and moves to turn to face Maeve when Cassie suddenly grabs him and pulls him into a kiss. Maeve unintentionally lets out a small noise of pain, Dean quickly pulling away from his old flame and turns to face Maeve. "Sweetheart, it's not what it looks like." Dena moves to stand in front of her, she slowly nods with a small smile. Her hands grab for Dean's as she looks up at him. "We need to talk." She breaths out, Dean flinches slightly but nods; following her outside.
Maeve leads Dean away to stand in front of the impala, "Maeve, please don't do this." Dean utters out, his heart pounding in fear. She was going to leave him, he wasn't going to let her. "Dean. I have one more secret I have to tell you, and after I do; I don't think it'll be me ending this." Maeve says, she gives him a sad smile as he cocks his head in confusion. He shakes his head with a determined look, "I've already told you, I don't care what you are or what you've done. I won..." She interrupts him, her eyes filled with tears. "My name is Medusa. I'm the snake woman who turns men into stone." She breaths out, Dean freezes for a moment. He couldn't believe she actually told him, Maeve took his silence as disgust. She slowly starts to pull her hands away, but he grabs them even tighter. "I know." He tells her, he gives her a small smile. "What?" She breaths out, her eyes widening in horror. "I've known for a while, Sam hasn't exactly been subtle about his research into your past and I put two and two together. It doesn't change anything, I love you. I've loved you for a while now, no matter what you did or who you were; you are Maeve. My Maeve and that's all I need to know." Maeve lets out a small sob as she lets him pull her into his chest.
The relief she felt was like nothing she had ever experienced before, "You promise?" She breaths out, he lets out a small laugh, tears gathering in his eyes as he holds her tighter. "I promise. I love you." He whispers, placing his forehead against hers and she laughs once more in relief. "I love you too, Dean Winchester." He hums happily before pulling her into a deep kiss. The two of them, quickly moving inside the impala, making love. This time, no more secrets between them as they held one another. Their connection finally becoming deeper than anything in the universe. Cassie had seen this, and turns away from the window; knowing that she had truly lost Dean Winchester.
ππππππππ
π»ππ ππππ πππππππ, Dean lays on his back, his arm around Maeve tucked against his side. She smiles comfortably as she traces her fingers over his chest. A blanket is wrapped around their bodies as Dean runs his fingers up and down her smile. "We should make up more often." Dean says softly with a smile, his heart finally feels full. He staring at the roof, Maeve giggles gently as she shifts. "Absolutely." She looks up at him, he shifts lightly; their bodies rubbing against each other. His hand comes to brush the hair out of her face, "You're beautiful." He whispers out, she blushes with a smile. "I love you." She replies, both of them feeling extremely happy in the moment. "No more excuses or lies, ok? From you or me." He tells her, running his hand over her back again. "Ok." They start kissing. Dean's phone rings and he reaches for it. "Yeah." Dean listens, his face falls and he looks startled. "You're kidding!" He gently sits up as Maeve goes with him, pulling the sheet up around her. "What happened?" She asks as Dean hug up.
"I'll explain on the way." He tells her, giving her a quick kiss as they begin to get dressed.
ππππππππ
π°π ππ πππππππ, Maeve and Dean approach Sam, who is talking to a cop. Sam shoots them a look, putting away some sort of ID. "They're with me." The cop leaves, Sam turns to the couple with a half smile. "Where were you two last night? You didn't make it back to the hotel." Dean and Maeve smile at one another as Dean pulls her in closer. "Well..." Sam smiles widely, his eyes shining with happiness as the couple gives one another smiles. "I'm guessing you guys worked things out?" Sam questions with a laugh, "Yeah. We're all good. Me and my wonderful lady. We'll be working things out when we're ninety. So what happened?" Dean laughs lightly when Maeve smacks him, Sam chuckles as well as he moves to fill them in. "Every bone crushed. Internal organ's turned to pudding. The cops are all stumped, it's like something ran him over." Dean frowns in confusion, "Something like a truck?" Maeve and Dean question at the same time.
"Yep." Sam replies with a nod, "Tracks?" Maeve asks, cocking her head to the side. "Nope." Sam responds with a shake of his head. "What was the Mayor doing here anyway?" Dean asks, raising a brow towards his brother. "He owned the property. Bought it a few weeks ago." Sam explains to them, "But he's white, he doesn't fit the pattern." Maeve speaks up, "Killings didn't happen up on the road. That doesn't fit either." Time to go back to the newspaper office then. The trio separate once more, Dean and Maeve heading back to Cassie's work; Dean purposely making Maeve come with him because he didn't feel comfortable with being alone with his old flame. Sam had smirked smugly at the couple, he was excited to see were this was going to go.
An hour later, Cassie makes two mugs of tea and takes them over to where Dean sits at a computer. He awkwardly shifts away from her as she tries to give him the cup. "Here." Maeve, who had been passing by, yelps in shock as Dean pulls her down into his lap. Her mouth full of food, they had stopped by a convenience store on the way over. They hadn't eaten since the morning before so here they were, sharing a bag of chips. "Thanks, sweetheart." Dean smirks at her as he snatches on of her chips, she gives him a pout, but smiles nonetheless. "So I'm trying to find some link between those killings back in the '60s and what's going on now. There wasn't a lot about it in the paper." Dean speaks up, finally talking to Cassie for the first time. "Not surprising. Probably minimal policework too. Back then equal justice under the law wasn't too literal around here." Dean's phone rings.
"Yeah." Dean picks it up, putting it on speaker for Maeve to hear as well. "Ok, the courthouse records show that Mr and Mrs Mayor bought an abandoned property. The previous owner was the Dorian family for, like, 150 years." Sam reads out, "Dorian?" Maeve asks in confusion, "Yeah." Sam replies, Dean turns to Cassie. "Didn't you say the Dorian family used to own this paper?" He asked her, she flinched slightly at the cold look in his face. She nods, "Along with everything else around here. Real pillars of the town." She explains to them. "Right, right." Dean clicks a few links on the computer, "That's interesting." Dean grunts out, "What?" Sam questions from over the phone. "This Cyrus Dorian. He vanished in April of '63.The case was investigated but never solved. It was right around the time the string of murders was going on back then."
"Well I pulled a bunch of papers up on the Dorian place, it musta been in bad shape when the Mayor bought." Sam explains to them, Maeve hums lightly as she makes eye contact with Dean. "Why's that?" She asked, "The first thing he did was bulldoze the place." Dean looks towards Cassie again, "Mayor Todd knocked down the Dorian place?" He asked, giving her a raised brow. "It was a big deal. One of the oldest houses left. He made the front page." Dean sighs, his eyes turning back to the phone to speak to Sam. "You got a date?" He asks, "Ahhh. The 3rd of last month." Dean starts clicking, then reading from computer screen. "Mayor Todd bulldozed the Dorian family home on the 3rd. The first killing was the very next day." Dean hangs up, the couple packs up and quickly leaves to meet back up with Sam.
ππππππππ
π³ππππ ππππ πππππ, Cassie had called Dean in a panic; the truck had come for her and her mother so they quickly made their way over. Now, they all sit with Cassie and her mother; Sam hands her a cup of tea. Dean sits beside Maeve as Cassie sips on her tea, her eyes scanning over the group. Her eyes landing on Maeve and Dean, said male had his hand on Maeve's leg. He was giving her a smile and a soft look, she placed her hand over his and gives him one back. Sam and her mother watch them with small smiles, she sighs. Right. It was over. Her hands are still shaking, rattling the cup as she speaks up. "Maybe you could throw a couple of shots in that." She asks Sam who lets out a small laugh. "You didn't see who was driving the truck." He asks, ignoring her request. "It seemed to be no one. Everything was moving so fast. And then it was just gone. Why didn't it kill us?" Cassie asks, looking between the trio with a confused frown.
"Whoever was controlling the truck wants you afraid first." Maeve explains, "Mrs Robinson, Cassie said that your husband saw the truck before he died." Mrs. Robinson is shaking, tears in her eyes. "Mom?" Cassie asks, "Oh. Martin was under a lot of stress. You can't be sure about what he was seeing." Her mother replies with a shaky breath as Cassie looks to her mother with a betrayed look. "Well after tonight I think we can be reasonably sure he was seeing a truck. What happened tonight, you and Cassie are marked. Ok? Your daughter could die. So if you know something now would be a really good time to tell us about it." Dean explains to them, his voice stern. "Dean.." Cassie starts slowly, "Yes. Yes, he said he saw a truck." Her mother interrupted her, Cassie turns to face her mother with wide eyes. "Did he know who it belonged to?" Maeve asks the woman, "He thought he did." She replied.
"Who was that?" Dean asks, Mrs. Robinson shakes her head, getting upset. "Cyrus. A man named Cyrus." Maeve, Sam and Dean look at each other, Dean reaches for his bag and shows Mrs. Robinson the newspaper article about Dorian's death. "Is this Cyrus?" Dean asks her, she slowly nods as more tears trail down her cheeks. "Cyrus Dorian died more than 40 years ago." Dean sighs softly, "How do you know he died, Mrs Robinson? The paper's said he went missing. How do you know he died?" She flinches at her own mistake, Cassie watches her mother in horror. "We were all very young. I dated Cyrus a while, I was also seeing Martin...in secret of course. Inter-racial couples didn't go over too well back then. When I broke it off with Cyrus and when he found out about Martin, I don't know, he, changed. His hatred. His hatred was frightening." She explained to them, "The murders." Dean replies as Mrs. Robinson speaks again, sounding upset. "There were rumours. People of colour disappearing into some kind of a truck. Nothing was ever done. Martin and a... Martin and I, we were gunna be, uh, married in that little church near here, but last minute we decided to elope as we didn't want the attention."
"And Cyrus?" Maeve asks, she completely breaks down at this point. "The day we set for the wedding, was the day someone set fire to the church. There was a children's choir practising in there. They all died." Cassie gasps in horror, looking at her mother with disgust and disbelief. Sam speaks up softly, "Did the attacks stop after that?" Sam asks as the woman continues to sob. "No! There was one more. One night that truck came for Martin. Cyrus beat him something terrible. But Martin, you see, Martin got loose. And he started hitting Cyrus and he just kept hitting him and hitting him." Maeve glares at the woman in disgust as Dean shakes his head. "Why didn't you call the cops?" He asks, she continues to cry. "This was forty years ago. He called on his friends, Clayton Soames and Jimmy Anderson, and they put Cyrus' body into the truck and they rolled it into the swamp at the end of his land and all three of them kept that secret all of these years."
"And now all three are gone." Sam breaths out, his face pulled in sadness. "And so is Mayor Todd. Now he said that you of all people would know he is not a racist. Why would he say that?" Dean asks with a frown, "He was a good man. He was a young Deputy back then investigating Cyrus' disappearence. Once he figured out what Martin and the others had done he...he did nothing, because he also knew what Cyrus had done." Mrs. Robinson tries to defend herself but it wasn't working very well. "Why didn't you tell me?" Cassie asks in horror, her mother is still crying as she looks towards her daughter. "I thought I was protecting them. And now there's no one left to protect." Maeve lets out a small sigh, "Yes, there is." She murmurs, looking at Cassie, so does Mrs. Robinson, who still looks shaken.
The trio make their way outside, moving towards the impala to make a plan. Sam sighs as he leans against Impala next to Maeve, both watching as Dean paces up and down. "Ah, my life was so simple. Just school, exams, papers on polycentric cultural norms." Sam laughs out loud, Maeve watches them with a small smile. "Well, I guess I saved you from a boring existence." Dean teases back, "Yeah, occasionally I miss boring." Sam responds with a smirk, "I don't." Maeve speaks up, the brothers turn to look towards her. "You guys saved me. I was nothing, but a mess that traveled the world when I needed too. You two gave me a family, screw boring. This is what I call home." Maeve speaks up, giving them smiles. They smile back, "So, this killer truck." Dean starts after a moment of silence. "I miss conversations that didn't start with 'this killer truck'. Ahhh" Dean laughs a little at his brother's words. "Well, this Cyrus guy. Evil on a level that infected even his truck. When he died, the swamp became his tomb, and his spirit was dormant for 40 years."
"So, what woke it up?" Sam asks, "The construction on his house. Or the destruction." Maeve responds, her eyes widening in realization. "Right. Demolition or remodelling can awaken spirits, make them restless." Sam breaths out in agreement. "Mmm-hmm." Dean hums, "Like that theatre in Illonois, ya know?" Sam points out, Dean nods in agreement. "And the guy that tore down the family homestead, Harold Todd, is the same guy that kept Cyrus' murder quiet and unsolved." Maeve explains to the brothers, they both silently agree. "So now his spirit is awakened and out for blood." Sam says, "Yeah I guess. Who knows what ghosts are thinking anyway." Dean grunts out, his brother and girlfriend snorting lightly at his words. "You know we're going to havta dredge that body up from the swamp right." Dean smiles at him, "Man." Sam breaths out. "You said it." Maeve grunts in response as she laughs. "Yeah."
Cassie approaches from the house, the trio turn to face her. "Hey. She's asleep. Now what?" Cassie asks, looking between them with a small awkward smile. "Well you should stay put and look after her... and we'll be back. Don't leave the house." Dena tells her, his lips pulled into a straight line. Cassie smiles, "Don't go getting all authoritative on me. I hate it." Dean glances behind him to Sam and Maeve. Maeve smiles at him as Dean lets out a long sigh. "Don't leave the house." He grunts out, nicer than before. Cassie blinks slowly at Dean before nodding, "Alright." She turns, making her way back inside as Dean moves over to Maeve. He leans down to give her a deep kiss, her really liked kissing her. Sam glances over, grinning at them making out, and clears his throat. Dean keeps kissing Maeve, holding one finger back at Sam to wait. Another minute passes, before they slowly break their kiss. "You comin' or what?" She asks him, her smile teasing as she pulls away. He lets out a small laugh, smacking her on the ass as she moves away from him. She lets out a small yelp, Sam rolling his eyes at the pair as they all climbed into the impala.
They arrive at the Dorian property, climbing out of the impala. "All right. Let's get her up." Soon, Dean is at the wheel of a tractor. He backs it up, pulling a truck from the water. "All right. A little more. Little more. All right, stop." Dean turns off the engine and jumps down. "Nice." Maeve smirks, as they move to the trunk of the Impala. "Hell yeah." Dean grins at his girlfriend, quickly leaning in to give her a kiss. "Awe, you two are so sweet." Sam teases as Dean rummages among the weapons. "Ahh, can we focus please." Dean grunts out, a small smile on his face nonetheless. "I'm just saying Dean." Sam teases, Maeve smack him gently on the shoulder as Dean hands Sam something from the trunk. "Hold that." Sam frowns slightly, "All right. What am I getting?" Dean falls into his business mode. "Gas. Flashlight..." Maeve holds up the flashlight, flashing it in their faces with a teasing smirk. "Got it. got it." The brothers grunt at her with small smiles on their faces, Sam holds the gas. "Ok, let's get this done." Dean speaks softly, "All right." Sam responds, Dean lowering the trunk of the Impala. "Got it." They move toward the door of the truck, glance at each other. Dean opens it, a decayed body falls out, Maeve frowns in sadness at the sight.
They salt and burn the body, before standing to watch. "Think that'll do it?" Sam asks, speaking too soon when the ghost truck appears, headlights come on and engine reving. "I guess not." Dean says, all their eyes widening at the sight of the ghost truck. "So burning the body had no effect?" Maeve asks, "Sure it did. Now it's really pissed." She smacks Dean on the chest, he grunts back in response. "But Cyrus' ghost is gone, right Dean?" Sam asks, Dean starting to walk away towards the impala. "Apparently not the part that's fused with the truck." He snips sarcastically, "Where you going?" Sam asks, raising a brow in confusion towards his brother. Maeve starts moving after him, "Going for a little ride. Stay." He points towards Maeve who scoffs, "Hell no." She responds as she quickly rushes after him. "What!" Sam asks in horror, "Gonna lead that thing away. That piece of crap, you gotta burn it."
"How the hell am I supposed to burn a truck Dean?" Sam shouts after his brother in annoyance, Maeve slips in the impala. "I don't know. Figure something out." Sam catches the bag Dean throws at him. "Figure something out?" Dean climbs inside, shooting Maeve a look before he reverses the Impala and takes off. The ghost truck roars after him. Sam hides until it has passed. Dean, Maeve and the Impala lead the truck on a wild ride through the misty back roads. Dean throws Maeve his phone to call Sam, she does so immediately and puts it on speaker. "Hey, you gotta give me a minute." He speaks into the phone, Dean scoffs as he shoots the phone a look. "I don't have a minute. What are we doing?" Dean snarls towards his brother. "Ahh. Let me get back to you." Sam hangs up, Dean looks astounded as Maeve snorts lightly. He turns to look at her, "Get back to me?" He questions sarcastically, she gives him a shrug. Sam calls once more and Maeve quickly answers, putting it on speaker again.
"All right, Dean, Maeve?" Sam speaks up, Dean growls in annoyance at his brother. "This better be good." Dean replies in a snarky tone of voice. "Where are you?" He asks, Maeve frowns as she looks out the window for any markers. "In the middle of no where with a killer truck on my ass! It's like it knows I put the torch to Cyrus." Dean shouts at his brother, "Listen to me, this is important. I have to know exactly where you are." Maeve spots a road sign as the Impala roars past. "Decatur road, about two miles off the highway." She calls out, Dean gives her a small smile in thanks as he continues to put his foot to the petal. "Ok. Headed East?" Sam asks, "Yes!" The Truck backends the Impala, which goes skidding all over the road before regaining traction. Maeve grunts, Dean looks towards her in horror; quickly checking her over before shouting in anger. "You son of a bitch!"
"Ok, ahhh, turn right! Up ahead, turn right." Maeve holds onto the door as Dean swings right, the truck follows, both engines screaming and reving. "You make the turn?" Sam speaks up after a moment of silence. "Yeah I made the turn! You need to move this thing along a little faster." Dean snaps, "All right, you see a road up ahead?" Sam quickly questions. "No! Wait. No, yes, I see it." The truck is slowly gaining ground on the Impala's left side. "Ok, Turn left." Maeve and Dean make eye contact with one another in horror. Maeve shakes her head, quickly grabbing the door again. "Wha...?" Grimacing, Dean slams on the brakes and the truck careens past as he spins the Impala left onto the smaller road. "All right, now what?" Maeve groans out in slight disbelief at the fact that they made it. "You need to go seven tenths of a mile and then stop." Maeve scoffs as Dean looks shocked. "Stop?" They question together, "Exactly seven tenths Dean." Dean sighs, looking at the speedometer. "Seven tenths, seven tenths." At the right moment Dean spins the car around and moves it back to sit exactly where Sam advised, facing back the way he had come. He is between to posts on each side of the road and the last remains of a wall, almost totally broken down. The ghost truck appears back down the road he came down, revving it's engine.
Maeve and Dean are both breathing heavy, their adrenaline rushing through their veins. "Dean, You still there?" Sam asks, worry filling his voice. "Yeah." Dean utters out, "What's happening?" Sam asks, his voice speaking softly as he waits for their reply. "It's just staring at us, what do we do?" Dean asks, his hand moving to grab Maeve's. "Just what you are doing, bringing it to you." Sam replies, "Wha..." The truck spins its tires and comes barreling toward Dean and the Impala. Dean and Maeve watch it come, hanging tightly to the Impala's steering wheel. Dean tightens his grip on her hand as she quickly pulls herself into his chest. "Come on. Come on." As it reaches them, he closes his eyes and wraps his arms around her. The truck roars through them, disintergrating into nothing as it does so. A moment of silence goes through the impala, Maeve and Dean slowly opening their eyes and stare at the now empty road in front of them.
All that can be heard is the purring of the Impala's engine, the truck's reving having completely disappeared. Dean twists quickly to look behind and sees nothing, his arms staying around Maeve as she stares in front of them. "Maeve. Dean. You still there? Dean? Maeve?" Dean gives Maeve a shocked look, to which she responds with one as well. "Where'd it go?" Dean asks, Maeve slowly pulls away from Dean. She doesn't fully leave his side, but slips a little away from him. "Dean, you're where the church was." Dean frowns in confusion. "What church!?" Dean snaps, "The place Cyrus burned down, murdered all those kids." Maeve speaks up, out of breath as Dean looks at the posts left on the side of the road. "There's not a whole lot left." He replies, "Church ground is hallowed ground, whether the church is still there or not. Evil spirits cross over hallowed ground, sometimes they're destroyed, so I figured, maybe, that would get rid of it."
"Maybe? Maybe! What if you were wrong?" Dean snaps at his brother in anger, "Huh. Honestly that thought hadn't occured to me." Dean stares at his phone, then hangs up. A moment of silence, then he mimics his brother. "Well it honestly didn't occur to me." Dean slaps the steering wheel as Maeve snorts back a laugh. "I'm gunna kill him." The couple sits in a moment of silence before Dean grabs Maeve, pulling her into his lap and bringing her into a deep kiss. "Dean." She mutters out, between kisses as he hums in response. He really just needed to hold her, screw everything else.

π»ππ ππππ π ππ, after their last night escaped, Dean and Maeve had met back up with Sam. The trio taking the night off before gathering their things the next morning and heading to the docks to meet up with Cassie. Dean and Cassie walk toward the Impala, where Maeve is standing, Sam is already in the driver's seat. "My mother says to tell you thanks again." Dean nods and they come to a stop beside the Impala, facing each other. She gives Maeve a small smile, before looking towards Dean again. "This is a better goodbye than last time." She laughs, "Yeah, well maybe this time it will be a permanent one." She flinches lightly, her face changing into a sad one. She nods, "Goodbye, Dean. Maeve." Maeve responds back with a curt nod as well. Dean and Maeve get into the car, Sam and Cassie wave at one another before the Impala takes off.
Dean stares out the window while Sam drives. "So, you know everything?" Sam asks Dean, his voice low as Maeve sleeps in the back. "Yeah." Dean gives his brother a smile, his head turning to glance back at her. She was beautiful even just sleeping, "Glad, you know. She's been worried about it for a while, she loves you." Sam responds, "I know. I love her too." Dean states, Sam looks towards his brother in slight shock. Dean looks at Sam for a long moment, then smiles and reaches for his sunglasses, which he slips on. "Why don't you wake me up when it's my turn to drive?" Dean slouches down in the seat with a sigh. Sam shakes his head and looks back at the long straivght road. The Impala cruises along as Sam smiles, his heart light; and the couple sleeping calmly together.
Finally, everything was as it was supposed to be.
