Summary:Jentry and Gugu swap roles but not personalities. Jentry is the old, reluctant, super-powered, taoist demon-fighter and Flora is the young, grand-niece who loves the supernatural.

The door swung inwards and Jentry loudly announced. "We're home!" The luggage she brought in lifted off the ground and floated upstairs. To an ordinary human, it would seem the objects moved by themselves.

Behind the elderly woman was an excited, 16-year-old Flora Chau, who gasped. "Ah! House ghosts! It's so cool to finally meet you." she ran after the spirit of a long departed teenage lad who was carrying the luggage "Hi! Name's Flora. Nice to meet you."

The ghost was surprised, as was Jentry. "You've opened your third eye, already?"

"Yup. Thanks to those books you keep in your study."

The elderly woman groaned, palm to the face. "I knew someone was messing around with those! I thought it was Ed."

The unapologetic girl shrugged. "Gugu, if you don't want people touching your magical stuff, you should lock it all up." she still received a disapproving glare from her elder. The teen ignored that and tried to shake the ghost's hand, failing for obvious reasons much to the ghost's amusement.

"It's nice to finally meet you proper, Flora. My name is Ha-joon." the house ghost appeared delighted that Flora could finally see him and excused himself to carry off the luggage. The girl and the great-aunt were left alone in the entryway. Jentry crossed her arms, pinning her niece with a sharp look. "You've got a lot of explaining to do, young lady."

Flora smirked. "What's there to explain? I'm a natural." she balanced herself on her tip-toes, like a child awaiting a birthday present. "So, when do we start training?"

Eyebrow raised, Jentry asked. "Training for what?"

"You know, Gugu. For fighting demons, hunting monsters, saving the day!" Flora said enthusiastically, throwing a few exaggerated punches into the air for emphasis.

Jentry's elderly features darkened, her wrinkles accentuated as she frowned. "You got it all wrong, Flora. I'm not training you to go looking for trouble. I'm training you to survive trouble when it comes looking for you. That Mogui Cheng has been after my powers for decades and now that he knows you exist, he will be coming after you to get to me."

"But I want to fight demons!" Flora protested, enthusiasm deflating completely. "I want to be cool like you."

"This isn't about being cool, Flora. It never was. This is about staying alive. Nothing glamorous about any of it."

Flora frowned, her excitement dimming but not extinguished. "You're saying that like you didn't spend decades doing it."

Jentry held back her frustration and sighed wearily. "It's been a long journey, kiddo. Come on, I'll prepare us some dinner and we'll pick it up tomorrow."

Flora pouted but nodded. Her Gugu had always been reticent when she wanted to involve herself in the supernatural. She sat at the kitchen table while Jentry prepared some homemade ramen for dinner. Occasionally the elder woman would summon necessary ingredients through a portal or use fire to warm the water quickly.

The great-niece observed with fascination. "It's so cool how you use your powers. Like its second nature."

"I guess that's because it is. I got these powers before I was your age and had to adapt. Learn how to control them. It wasn't easy, though, and it took me years. Decades, even." Jentry spoke quietly, ghosts of the past coming back to haunt her.

Flora continued. "I still think they're pretty great. You get to be a supernatural hero with fire powers. You're lucky to have them."

The bag of spices floating over to Jentry dropped on the floor, abruptly. The fire heating the water expanded out of control for a brief moment before flaring down harmlessly.

"No." Jentry spoke with steel in her voice, bereft of warmth or easiness. "I was never lucky to have these powers."

Any other moment, Flora would have countered that but the cold and stern tone from her elder halted her. After a moment, the atmosphere became homely and pleasant again but Flora didn't dare to bring up her Gugu's powers again.

The ramen was soon prepared, seafood flavored like Flora liked it and the two dug in. While the conversation carried on pleasantly throughout supper, the girl could sense she had touched a nerve and wisely didn't try to poke it again.

When it was time for bed, Flora inquired what sort of techniques or magic they would start training the next day. Jentry reply was as vague as they come but left no room for arguement. "Strictly what you need to defend yourself if I happen to be somewhere else."

Seeing no point in arguing tonight, Flora went upstairs to her room. Jentry moved to the living-room, not quite ready to go to bed, just yet. By coincidence, her gaze landed on the wall. There, hanging slightly askew, was a casing displaying a very old paper. A document that was never put to good use and was left to gather dust.

She reached out and adjusted the frame, her fingers brushing the glass. She walked away, not wanting to be haunted by ghosts of the past. Minutes later, she was dressed and ready for bed. As she lay there, the last thing she saw before turning off the lights were a pair of old wedding rings which also never had much use.
