Chapter 1: When things go wrong

Pain. That one word has become my world. Or... it had. Let me explain, my name is Percy Jackson. Bane of the minotaur, son of position, savior of Olympus, yadda yadda yadda. What they don't tell you is what really happened when we went up against Gaia.

I take a breath from fighting, looking around the battlefield. All i can see in every direction is bodies. The bodies of my friends... no, my family are lying all around me. But there's no time to grieve, as I had one more foe to face.

"Foolish Demigods," Yelled Gaia as she finished manifesting her body of dirt, and as she opened her eyes, they glowed yellow with power, "You will all perish by my hand! But first... Perceus Jackson-"

"It's Percy. Only people that are hopeless or stupid call me Perceus."

"Stupid demigod," she sneered, "I want to make you suffer for all the trouble you caused me. But I respect you to some small degree, so I'll grant you the chance to fight me one-on-one."

"You know... for someone who is trying to wipe us out, you seem pretty decent. I'd hate to kill you."

"Like you can kill me," she scoffed.

"No," I groaned, "you're supposed to tell me that I'm not so bad either, and that you'd hate to die."

A/N: if you get that reference, then you're awesome! If not, GO WATCH THE PRINCESS BRIDE!

She snarls and makes two swords of stone and dirt fly out of the ground into her hands and I readjusted my grip on Riptide, knowing that I'm quite possibly not making it out of this alive.

"Have at thee," I shouted.

I hear Nico groan behind me and say something about how I watch too many movies, but I wasn't listening as I was too busy trading blows with Gaia. We went back and forth for what seemed like hours, but it was only a couple of minutes before I saw an opening. With all of my remaining energy, I stabbed Gaia in the chest. She gasped and fell backwards, but I caught her before she could hit the ground.

"Why... How," she gasped as she started to cry y diamonds.

"Great Grandmother, you were lied to," i say, "but know this, i forgive you. I can't blame someone for being deceived."

"I... was deceived? Then all this... all the death and destruction... was for a lie?"

"You believed your child. There is nothing wrong with that," i say as she slowly fades back into the earth (herself?).

"You truly are different from the other demigods. Percy Jackson, I give you my blessing," she said before she dissolved into the ground.

The last thing i remember before I fell unconscious, was Annabeth shouting my name and a dark yellow aura surrounding me.
