Chapter 6: Humanitarian of the year
Coming back to the Batcave since Forever.
Where the Batmobile and Robin Cycle pull in where Alfred was sitting by the Batcomputer.
The Dynamic Duo take off their masks and walk up stairs to the computer Alfred stands up.
"Home early sir?" Alfred asked.
"Just a crime scene Alfred. Not like the other ones." Bruce said.
"Yeah it was like the North Pole up there." Dick said.
"Dear lord…" Alfred said was shocked.
"But I finally got a trace on Selina earlier. We just need to plug it into the Batcomputer." Bruce said.
Bruce plugs the tracer into the Batcomputer.
And it would take all day to load up.
"May take a while." Bruce said.
"You had longer days sir." Alfred said.
"Which reminds me I gotta get back to campus has a long day of examining. See you guys at the Humanitarian evening?" Dick asked.
"Just show up." Bruce said.
Dick scoffed putting back his mask and hopped on the Robin Cycle and took off.
"Alfred. Detective Bullock confirmed Eyewitness saw the suspect use a ray freezing gun. Ring any bells?" Bruce asked.
"A Gothcorp project?" Alfred asked.
"Under Ferris Boyle's top checks. I don't think he's behind it but he's tied to it somehow. But Alfred, what do you know about Mercenary work in North America?" Bruce asked.
"Just there were attacks at Government bases. Why do you ask?" Alfred asked.
"Knox mentioned it earlier. I'd ask but he'd ask for an interview in return." Bruce said.
"I would assume the World's Greatest Detective would want an update?" Alfred said.
"You know me too well Alfred." Bruce said.
"I'll start digging into it." Alfred said.
"Get a hold of Lucius too. I wanna know what Boyle's been cooking in the oven in the 80's." Bruce said.
"As you wish." Alfred said.
Out in North America.
There was indeed attacks by mercenaries on lab facilities; they took scientists hostage, forcing them to give up hidden projects they're looking for…
"Tell us where the hidden serum is!" Leader said.
"I swear we don't have it! It was sold to someone in power." The Head Scientist said.
"To who?" Leader asked.
"I don't know…to a man named Boyle." The Head Scientist said.
"Boyle is it?" a voice came.
The voice from behind them took everyone in the lab off guard.
Another figure from the shadows sat looking at vials in hand. It was a large man who looked like was wearing a mask but barely a glimpse of him at a distance.
"Medicos like you are very careless to who you sell your projects." Figure said.
"Wait a minute…you're not…who I think you are…are you?" The Head Scientist asked.
"Depende senior. Depends if what you say about Boyle is true. I am planning to return to Gotham for some unfinished business. Dios no quiera that left it empty handed. Prep my chopper." Figure said.
"And them sir?" Leader asked.
The figure turns around and walks.
"Dispatches." Figure said.
The figure leaves as the mercs shoot all the Scientists dead screaming and pleading but all silenced for good.
Returning to Gothcorp.
Where The Humanitarian evening took place.
As Bruce.
And Dick.
Arrived just in time for Boyle's award-winning speech.
"Thank you Gotham. And by me all of Gothcorp thank you too for your humble support." Boyle said.
Bruce grabs a champion and sips eyeing at Boyle on the stage.
"As your Humanitarian of the year I will place our rate over the top than before. Our projects will change everything. And by everything, not just Gotham. But the whole world." Boyle said.
The guests applaud and Boyle walks down for the stage.
"The guy is something." Dick said.
"Stay on guard. If we get something off him he won't be any Humanitarian of anything. But we only got one shot to get anything here." Bruce said.
"I get it. I'm just-" Dick said.
To Dick's surprise Barbara happened to be there too no doubt with her father.
"Just what?" Bruce asked.
"Never mind. Go on ahead, I'll catch up." Dick said.
Dick leaves Bruce clueless wondering what the rush is.
Soon enough Boyle came up to him.
"Mr. Wayne. Let me guess you couldn't turn down my invitation just to pick up where we left off." Boyle said.
"That and make sure you put in the charity." Bruce said.
"You like your father alright. He was a goody toe-shoe too. But unlike him you're not too trusting." Boyle said.
"Just prove you're not as self absorbed as many say you are. Half of Gotham's not even happy about you as their Humanitarian." Bruce said.
"Is that a fact?" Boyle asked.
"He's never that trusting to most people." A voice came.
To Bruce's surprise…
…that voice turned out to Selina Kyle.
