Chapter 7: Cats in the bag
Bruce grows more serious.
With Selina smirking back at him.
"And who might you be my dear?" Boyle asked.
"Rene Remeriez. I'm Bruce's secretary." Selina said.
"And a lovely one at that. I wonder how Wayne makes his appointments." Boyle said.
"The secrets out. And you are?" Selina asked.
"Your Humanitarian of the year. Ferris Boyle." Boyle said.
"And so you are." Selina said.
"Yes, um, Mr. Boyle if you'll excuse us." Bruce said.
Bruce grabs Selina by the arm and pulls her away leaving Boyle to smirk getting the wrong idea.
Across the room Dick followed Barbara to the food table where Gordon was eating cherries.
Once he turned he smiled seeing his daughter.
"Barbara." Gordon said.
"Hi Dad. Sorry I'm late." Barbara said.
Barbara kisses her dad on the cheek and Dick keeps tabs on her backs up a bit seeing Gordon with her.
"I worried you wouldn't be able to find the place. With all that's going on." Gordon said.
"Dad, I'm a big girl. I have no trouble getting around." Barbara said.
"I know. Just an old man's curse to worry." Gordon said.
"Old? You're as young as you feel." Barbara said.
"You sound like your mother." Gordon said.
Barbara laughs and happens to look behind her, almost spotting Dick till he hides behind a pillar.
Barbara then got serious like Bruce did.
Speaking of Bruce he pulls Selina out in a hall away from the crowd she chuckles like a Witch.
"Bruce if you were eager you could have pulled me in your limbo." Selina said.
"Enough with the charade Selina what'd you doing here?" Bruce asked.
"I could ask you the same thing. Plus where's your Doctor Lover. Oh that's right she left." Selina said.
Bruce frowns hearing that.
"Ohhh…too soon?" Selina asked.
"Just tell me why you're here. And what you want." Bruce said.
"What I can't have." Selina said.
Selina pulls Bruce in a passionate kiss just to shove him to the wall and runs back in the crowd.
Bruce lost sight of her.
"Dammit." Bruce said.
Meanwhile Dick followed Barbara outside where she disappeared.
Dick frowned confused till…it turned out Barbara hid behind the wall behind him then grabbed him by the wrist twisting his arm behind him.
"OW! HEY WAIT A MINUTE!" Dick called.
"Who are you? And why are you following me?" Barbara asked.
"I wasn't! I swear!" Dick called.
"I'm not stupid. Why are you following me?" Barbara asked.
"I mean you do no harm. I'm Richard Grayson. We go to the same college, Gotham University." Dick said.
Barbara grew curious and let him go.
"You're Bruce Wayne's ward?" Barbara asked.
"Yeah unfortunately." Dick said.
"Unfortunately? Not into the rich life?" Barbara asked.
"More like not into being in his shadow. I'm just a guy making his own life. Or…trying to." Dick said.
"In any case I'm Barbara." Barbara said.
"Dick." Dick said.
"Pardon me?" Barbara asked.
"That's what my friends call me." Dick said.
Barbara smiled with her first impression of him.
Upstairs Bruce assumed Selina was after the charity money and when he came in he was right stook the money box turning around surprised…
"Damn…" Selina said.
"Stealing from charity? I don't think you would sink this low." Bruce said.
"Don't lecture me Bruce. You can write them a check." Selina said.
"You are NOT walking out of here with that money. There are people, CHILDREN who need it more than you." Bruce said.
"Then give them your bank account." Selina said.
"The world is not that simple, Selina." Bruce said.
"It is for me." Selina said.
Selina tries to barge around Bruce with the money but he blocks her.
"Put it down." Bruce said.
"Come and get it." Selina said.
Selina kicked her high heel out but he countered it and pushed her back causing her to drop the box spilling out the money.
Bruce and Selina fought kung-fu style. Bruce countered her every attack but she headbutt him, knocking him to the floor.
Selina then climbs on top of him.
"Admit it Bruce, you're having fun." Selina said.
"I would be if you weren't stealing." Bruce said.
"Then how will you be a hero without someone to chase?" Selina asked.
"You think I enjoy it. I have to be." Bruce said.
"Who says?" Selina asked.
"Me." Bruce said.
Bruce tries to force her off but she holds him down and kisses him again…
…just to flip over him.
Selina opens a window and dives out.
Leaving Bruce with the spilled money and sighs.
"Well at least she didn't take it." Bruce said.
Downstairs with Dick and Barbara they talked to get to know each other.
"So you were born in the circus?" Barbara asked.
"Where my dad met my mom. He was a marine." Dick said.
"And after they passed you lived with Mr. Wayne…how long exactly?" Barbara asked.
"Two years. I haven't told him yet…but I'm starting to outgrow it." Dick said.
"You already hate him?" Barbara asked.
"I don't hate him…believe me I appreciate it everything Bruce does for me. It's just…he's controlling. It's always his way or the hard way." Dick said.
"My dad's the same way. My mom left him. Dad means well too, sometimes he can be overprotective." Barbara said.
"See that's my point on Bruce!" Dick said.
"But there's a reason. I'm all he has now. Mom died in an accident last year." Barbara said sadly.
"Oh…I'm very sorry." Dick said sadly.
"Thanks. And sorry for twisting your arm." Barbara said.
"No hard feelings." Dick said.
All of sudden…the entrance…FROZE up in ice like cargo ship it caught everyone off guard and then…EXPLODES causing panic entering the red eye figure…
