"It's a fitting punishment for a monster. To want something so much—to hold it in your arms—and know beyond a doubt you will never deserve it."

— Renee Ahdieh, from The Wrath and the Dawn

Cilan had never thought it would happen like this. The things he'd done, the people he'd hurt… the blood on his hands was too much to bear some days.

And yet Skyla still looked at him with so much love. She said she loved him so easily, like it was nothing. If she only knew.

Cilan knew a life with her was impossible. That wasn't how things ended for terrorists like him. He didn't deserve that kind of happiness, not after everything he and his brothers had done in service of Ghetsis. It was impossible.

But he could dream anyway.

A/N: I lied, this one was kind of sad. Sorry, chat. There's a follow up to this one in the later drabbles though, so this isn't the end.
