Now back to reading

A little hint

As exams began in the first, second and third grade classrooms, Chris was still looking for the drug addict in the fourth grade classrooms. Chris was still looking for the drug addict in the fourth grade classrooms. Some students were glad that the principal interrupted their exams, but they were also surprised at what was going on in the school, since no kids looked suspicious in the hallways, did they?

In the hallway of the two classrooms of the first year group A and B were the boys who were saved from taking the exams, some were sitting on the floor with their cell phones and others were standing talking to each other until they were waiting for their teachers to call them to enter the classroom.

"Come on... come on... I'm almost done with the last of the homework" David was playing with the Among Us sitting on the floor while next to him was Lillian reading a book.

"Hey, turn down the volume on your voice and your cell phone I'm trying to read" ordered Lillian in a low annoyed voice.

"We're in a time of relaxation Lillian and you're the only one out of everyone who can think of reading a book" replied David without stopping his playfulness.

"This was the reason I passed the semester, plus it's not just anything I'm reading, it's about brain diseases like paralysis, epilepsy and..."

"No... they killed me again!" complained David stretching his legs on the ground but an owl inadvertently tripped over his legs as he walked with his black feathered owl friend holding his hand.

"HEY!" complained the white owl and looked down to the ground to see what he had tripped over.

"Watch where you put your paws Panamanian you idiot" spoke the black owl in an annoyed voice looking at the angry macaw "you almost ran over my girlfriend".

"Sorry" apologized David flexing his legs after they walked away "damn dykes don't know how to do anything but snip at each other".

"At least it was Sandy that scared you and not your girlfriend Jaqui" scoffed Lillian teasing her friend that the black owl had intimidated her a little.

"That she's not my girlfriend!" repeated David again trying to concentrate on his game "just because she said a compliment to me doesn't mean anything!".

"Men are so immature and very whiny." Lillian gets up from the floor and walks away from her classmates from group B until she reaches the hallway of first-year group A, where she recognizes some of the boys who were part of the fight in gym class.

No one noticed her presence since Lillian was very quiet and she rarely spoke to other children apart from Sofia and her new male friends, but a certain green-winged macaw recognized her.

"Lillian, what are you doing here?" Martín asked in a kind voice, looking at the canary with his book.

"Hey Martin," Lillian greeted the gay macaw, "I passed the semester and got out of taking the exam, so I'm waiting for the others to finish."

"You're lucky, honey, like the day you trafficked ice cream for my friend's party."

"I guess so hehehe…" Lillian looked away from her and saw the same canary she saw at the ice cream shop "hey, can I ask you something?"

"Sure darling, it's better, sit with me, something tells me we'll be here a little longer," Martin proposed and Lillian accepted the invitation and sat next to the macaw.

"Do you know the name of the boy over there?" Lillian looked at Nico, who was looking at her cell phone.

"It's Nico you know the son of singer Jaime Foxx" Martin pulls out his cell phone and shows her a picture of Nico's father with his son in an old post.

"He doesn't look much like the pictures I saw on Twiteer" Lillian was surprised that Nico wasn't as attractive as in the pictures he uploaded on his social media.

"The truth is that he changed a lot or at least that's what Pedro says, I don't know much about him because I was in the private group months ago" Martin was still looking at his cell phone.

"Well he doesn't seem like a bad guy" confessed the canary when she saw that Nico was smiling a little without taking his eyes off his cell phone.

"I think the same as you dear you can't judge without knowing people first".

"And how are your group mates" asked Lillian "is it true that one of the girls eats the gum stuck under the tables".

"And is it true that one of your classmates is a pervert?" replied Martin in a mocking voice provoking her friend's laughter.

"I thought David and Alejandro were the only ones who made up theories about your classmates," confessed Lillian.

"Well, if I'm being honest, I think one of my classmates is a pervert."

"Really, and who do you think he is?".

"So we spent the whole week studying at his house, it took me a while but I got him to learn math and chemistry" Blu was talking about the classes he gave Jewel the last few days, but Rafael wasn't entirely attentive to the conversation as he paced back and forth with a bit of desperation.

"What's taking them so long?" asked the toucan looking at the classroom door to see if the teacher was coming out "They've been cooped up for a long time."

"It's barely been fifteen minutes since we left the room at least you heard some of what I said" Blu was annoyed at the lack of attention his friend wasn't paying him.

"How do you want me to relax if Eva is alone with Tomada" Rafael tried not to yell at his friend for his silly question "Sorry... I'm sorry, it's because of Dayana and the party".

"You still haven't told her what happened?".

"Blu if I tell him I kissed Dayana he's going to cut me" Rafi remembered the day he kissed Dayana by accident.

"Well you better tell her before someone else does" the blue macaw advised him.

"Dayana was going to do it but I asked her not to tell him for her sake."

"For hers or for yours?".

"I-equally... if I tell her how do I tell her without making her angry" Rafael looked at his friend with concern.

"I don't know, maybe take her to the park or out to lunch and when you see the time you tell her but first tell her..."

"Blu think of the barbaric thing Eva would do in public when she finds out I've been unfaithful to her" Rafael grabbed Blu by the shoulders and shook him.

"I'm not very good at giving romantic advice, just tell her the truth!". Blu got dizzy with the shake "and stop shaking me I'm not your dummy!".

"I'm sorry bro it's just that" he blurts out to Blu "it's the first time I've fallen in love and of all the girlfriends I've had Eva is the one who has stolen my heart I don't know if you understand me but I feel like Eva is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with."

"Of course I understand you Rafi and it must be hard for you to be in this situation and much more if Eva's parents don't know you are dating her" Blu felt a little identified with Rafael since the same thing happened to him with Jewel when they were together but on the sly.

"Rafi" interrupted Dayana with a little fear "ammm... we can talk".

"Dayana I already told you I don't want to talk to you" Rafael turned his back to the scarlet macaw coldly.

"I know but I want to help you with this, I know I made a mistake and I know you love Eva that's why I want to...".

"Mind your own business Dayana, this is my problem and you don't know anything about courtships and crushes!". Rafael raised his voice intimidating Dayana a little but also caught the attention of his companions.

Dayana was moved by those words and with nothing more to say she walked away from the toucan with some tears in her eyes.

"What are you looking at, go back to your cell phones and watch your ridiculous videos" they all looked at the toucan with a bit of amazement and fear at her change of voice and to stay out of trouble they went back to their cell phones "this day can't get any worse".

Meanwhile in the private group, teacher Soledad was handing out the exams to her students because the principal came to check everyone's belongings for some of the drugs they were selling in the school and they were late with the test

"Before we start with the exam I need to talk to you" Sol called her students' attention "I know nobody expected this about the drugs hidden in the candy but what happened to Raquel and Javier has nothing to do with the party they threw for Jaqui".

"Then why did the principal order to send us home for a week and the rest of the school not?" asked Tiny with concern and anguish "I don't want to miss school".

"I don't want to stay with my stepmother, she hates me" confessed a gray macaw with yellow feathers waving his arms as if riding a motorcycle (symptom of autism).

"Listen, I know you don't like the idea but it's for your own good" Sol tried to calm her students who continued with their questions "but if the drug addict doesn't show up our classes will be suspended, I don't want any of you to get intoxicated".

"With all due respect, teacher Sol, here we all take drugs to control what we have" spoke Angel the toucan with down syndrome "technically what we take are drugs..."

"Nobody here takes drugs, ok" repeated Soledad raising her voice a little "I also resent the director's decision but I know he is doing it for your own good and I wouldn't like to see another disgrace in the group". You don't know how serious Raquel was in the hospital when I went to see her and I would feel twice as bad if any of you got sick because of the drugs that run through the school, that's why they closed the candy stand because they found drugs in some candy".

"So if there is dope, it must be in the tube of blueberry mints Raquel sister gave her" Angel confessed.

"What are you talking about?" Soledad was confused.

"I saw when Raquel sister gave her some mints with blueberries and she ate them before Jaqui's party and then she gave them to Javier I saw them because I was standing in line to order ice cream with Jenny" Angel remembered what she saw the day of the party "after the party we chatted and she told me she felt sick to her stomach and dizzy".

"You knew what was going on and you didn't tell me?". Sol was upset by Angel's unexpected news.

"I thought it was harmless" Angel defended himself feeling guilty "but with what I'm thinking they weren't sharing candy".

"Silly someone else at school could have eaten those drugs and one of them is Rachel's sister but it could have been too" Jenny reacted and remembered something unexpected.

Flashback of Jenny (in this flashback the place is dark but the characters and some objects are colored as if they were lights. Remember Jenny is blind)

"My God Tomada that's disgusting" spoke Jenny covering her beak from the strong smell as she sat with her friends.

"What...everyone likes tuna salad with onion, tomato, lettuce and salt" replied the hawk eating her salad.

"I think I'm going to throw up" Martin regurgitated but was trying not to throw up.

"That onion is raw old man," Angel spoke as he sat across from Jenny.

"With that breath you want to win Sorrel?". Jenny could smell the strong fishy odor.

"I'll buy some mints after lunch there's a third year boy who sells candy you can't get at the school kiosk" replied Tomada as he ate "now stop complaining I want to eat."

"You stink like fish and the onion makes it worse" Jaqui gets up and walks away "I better go to the bathroom".

"At the next meeting let us know if you bring fish to buy the snack" Martin advises in a feminine voice "my mom will think I went to the dock and not to school" "Or to the fish market with the fishmongers".

"Or to the fish market with Sorrel" Tiny laughed at his joke and they all did the same.

"Ok... ok... I will but let me eat in peace" Tomada goes back to chewing "they are delicate".

End of flashback

"Oh my God I have to see Tomada!" cried Jenny "he might know where the junkie is."

"Are you sure?" asked Sol with a bit of concern.

"He bought candy on the sly while he was at school so he knows who the drug dealer is" Jenny got up from her seat.

"Alright Jenny let's go find Tomada" Sol opens the door but before leaving he spoke to the others "The test is cancelled leave the tests on my desk and Angel you are in charge" Jenny already recognized the exit and walked fast without fear of stumbling but still carried her guide stick

"So Raquel's sister is a drug addict" Tiny panicked "she's to blame for her being in the hospital".

"Maybe, but why would her sister hurt Raquie?" asked the grey macaw with autism.

"I don't know but this drug thing is affecting the whole school" Angel pulls out her cell phone and texts Martin.

Back to the A group classroom

Teacher Miriam was walking around the room to prevent her students from cheating on the test but she received a message on her cell phone, when she found out who the message was from her eyes widened in surprise.

Most of the kids in the group were concentrating on the test questions, they didn't know which answer was the right one, but Jewel wasn't lost with the questions, her private studies with Blu were helping her a lot to find the right answer.

"Okay guys you have five minutes to turn in your exam if it is not on my desk after five minutes I will not review it and you will fail" Miriam ordered and some of them tried to answer the questions quickly "by the way if you forget to put your name I will not grade your exam even if you turn it in on time, I don't want it to happen like in the previous exam" Miriam sat on her desk chair and looked sideways at Nigel since he was the only one in the group who did not write his name on his previous exam.

In less than two minutes some of the kids started handing in their exams. One of the first to turn it in was Eva who, attentive to Tomada's words, paid no attention to the questions and answered them quickly.

"Now if Tomada repeat what you told me" ordered Eva sitting down next to the hawk and looking at him seriously.

"To tell you Eva... that your boyfriend is not to be trusted" answered the hawk in a low voice.

"If he's to be trusted, he's the best boyfriend I've ever had," the toucan was trying not to raise her voice in her teacher's presence.

"Then why has he been coddling you more than usual these past few weeks?". Tomada was also trying to keep her voice down and finish the exam.

"If it's because of the contest I'm over it, I don't care if Jennifer won first place, I just want to forget about music for a while" said Eva "If you keep playing these games to make me feel bad I'll tell the teacher."

"Eva go back to your seat or I won't grade your exam" ordered Miriam "Tomada Falcon give me your exam now or you will get a minus point".

"But teacher I haven't even..."

"I said now or it will be two points" Miriam repeated and Tomada got up from her seat and handed her the incomplete exam until she returned to her seat.

"I don't know what Sorrel has seen you but you are unbearable and you talk too much" Eva was still fighting with the hawk.

"I say the same with Rafael" at this part Tomada lied to play along with the toucan to make her mad.

"Ok that's it I'll tell Sorrel you are threatening me".

"And I'll tell her what you did to Jenny and you know how Sorrel is with people who suffer from something very ugly" Tomada replied and Eva rolled her eyes and sat back in her place.

Once everyone had handed in their exams, Miriam tidied them up and put them in her bag and then got up and opened the door to let the rest of her students in. Rafael was the first to enter and immediately sat down next to his girlfriend.

"How did the exam go, honey?" asked Rafael in a kind voice.

"It went well, thank you," replied Eva in a dry voice.

"And what were you and Tomada talking about?".

"Is there a problem with that?" asked Eva, but this time in a serious voice.

"No... no of course not honey it's just a guess" Rafael took his beloved's hand to calm her down "since you sat so close I figured you would chat a little".

"Well that's it" Eva pulled her hand away from her boyfriend leaving him surprised by her change in mood.

"Did you get a chance to answer all the questions?" Sorrel was addressing her boyfriend.

"I was nervous and I didn't finish answering the whole test" replied Tomada as she checked her backpack.

"It's normal love but don't worry I know you'll make it through the year" Sorrel took the sweet hawk's hand.

"Do you want blueberry flavored mints?" Tomada pulled out a tube of mints with a label of the video game Among Us "in the center of the mints is a picture of a Among Us."

"Wow... they stopped selling them a long time ago, they were limited edition, where did you get them?"

"Some third graders sell candy and junk food behind the principal's back. It's a little expensive to buy them but it's worth it because the candies are unique" Tomada eats three mints and leaves them a little in her mouth to dissolve but two of them didn't have a Among Us in the middle.

"But that's illegal."

"I know but still we can't do anything honey and even if we tell the principal those kids will sell again and they will do it in the least expected place" replied the hawk tasting the mints but for some strange reason they tasted funny.

"You're right about that but as long as they don't sell anything bad that turns our stomachs I guess I can't say anything" Sorrel grabbed the last two mints but Jerry inadvertently pushed her as she walked down the aisle and knocked them to the floor.

"Sorry Sorrel, did I hurt you?" apologized the nymph cockatoo shyly, "I didn't mean to drop your medicine."

"Don't worry Jerry, nothing's wrong and it was just lies" replied Sorrel in a kind voice.

"I'm sorry it's just that these exams make my feathers stand on end, I still owe you two lies" apologized Jerry again and went to his seat being quite tense.

"That boy is very nervous" Sorrel looked sideways at Jerry writing on a sheet of paper but clenching his pencil very tightly.

"He has epilepsy and can't have a scare or severe stress but he's a good kid" Tomada replied "although he doesn't like to take his medication".

"I heard you, hawkfists" Jerry heard what Tomada said about him.

"And a good ear" Tomada and Sorrel laughed together softly as on the bottom of the floor were the two little lies that came out of Sorrel's mouth. Both were purple but one of them did not have the image of Between Us in the center.

And we come to the end of the chapter dear readers. Jenny has suspicions about the drug addict (Rebecca) Eva was pensive about Tomada's confession, what will she do about it? And from what we saw Sorrel was saved from using drugs thanks to Jerry.
