ARC II chapter 10
Traf looked at the disabled KV-2 as the crew bailed out, even if they hadn't got their tank burning. "You won't stand a chance against our Maus!" one of them shouted and Traf paled in realization that they had more than one tank ready to intercept the match to get the end they wanted.
"Takashi! Take us to the city! Now!" he shouted at his driver, who nodded in response and they had soon reached the city, while avoiding the Pershing patrols and also shooting a shell to disable one, when it was preoccupied with the BT-42 from Jatkosota, which did a damn good job at harassing the hell out of them.
They didn't stay for too long there, knowing that the Karl-Gerat was done for. And as they had entered the city, Traf gave a nod to Kay as a response to her waving her hand at them, with Katyusha's T-34/85 next to her M4 Sherman, looking like they had just came out from a battle with a Pershing and somehow survive.
And then, he heard the low rumble of a very strained engine nearing them. "They had left their heaviest tank in the city!" he shouted over the comms, everyone knowing that he referred to the Ravens, not knowing about the uproar it would cause with the spectators hearing about it.
But, what came from around the corner five minutes later… definitely wasn't a Maus. No. It was something similar, yet different. It was...
"That's the Entwicklung 100 with a 15 cm cannon modification!" he said aloud with surprise and relief in his voice. While the E100 had the option of being armed with a 15 cm gun, it still had poorer armor than the Maus.
"This is where the fun begins," George muttered as Takashi made a hard left turn to dodge the shell of doom that the monster fired at them.
Kay was shocked when she saw the monster of a tank that resembled the Maus that Kuromorimine owned. And even more, when it aimed at Trafalgar's Chaffee and fired, the smaller tank barely dodged the shell, which left a crater in the ground.
"That's not the regulated ammo," Katyusha's voice broke through her shocked daze, reminding her that there's still a match to win. "W-why can you say this?" she asked, unsure about that. After all, Kay had seen Katyusha's beloved weapon of destruction almost destroy a building several times.
"I know it, due to the KV-2's firepower with the real stuff, but this is a lot stronger than expected!" the diminutive commander shouted back in frustration and the T-34/85 shot at the thing, only for the shell to bounce off and completely ignore the harassing lighter tank as it was merely shrugging off shell after shell from it.
"That's true. The regulated HE is more like a standard EMP bomb," George's voice supported Katyusha almost immediately, since he had the best chance to study the shells from the madly dodging Chaffee's crew.
Kay looked more closely at the thing and noticed that it was loading and firing almost nearly two times as slow as an IS-2 was reported to do approximately with a crew that was on amateur level in American Tankery. But, the more it fired, the bigger the cost would be for repairs of the urban area and less would be given to the school for maintenance of both it and the school's Sensha-Do team.
"Are you alright?" Miho's voice suddenly asked before Kay had the chance to throw with her microphone against the turret interior of her Sherman. "Yes, but the city won't be, if we won't take down the E100 really fast," she responded, almost ignoring Sgt. Oddball's rapid torrent of basic information and questions about the SHT before her.
Only when she went on about the turret armor, she remembered how the Maus was dealt with: a shot to a hatch on the back of the turret. "Say, Oddball…" she started, a crazy idea forming in her mind. "Y-yeah?" came the response. "Does the E100 have a hatch on the back of the turret?" she asked as innocently as she could.
"Yes, it does. But, you would need a gun with similar penetration as the 8,8 cm KwK 36 on Tiger I has," Trafalgar answered instead. "Fine! I'll shoot it there!" Katyusha shouted over the comms and then, the T-34/85 hit the spot, only for the tank to completely ignore that it had the white flag displayed and still work somehow.
"I-it still works?!" she shouted in disbelief and the mic fell from her hand, completely forgotten in her shock. But then, the flag fell off with a plate of bonus armor, revealing the true hatch still in almost pristine condition, other than the scorch marks made by the T-34/85's shell.
And before she could ask Katyusha to fire again, the 90mm gun of a M26 Pershing thundered behind her, disabling the monstrosity for good. And it disappeared in the city afterwards, showing her that the crew of it wanted to play fair with them, sparking Kay's excitement for a good match once again.
Renta calmly stood up and walked over to the announcer's platform, while grinning internally. He now had a reason to finish his revenge for him ruining several matches, even if one of them allowed boys (in limited numbers) into Sensha-Do.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," he began as he grabbed the mic in front of him, "I came before you to officially announce that Raven's Nest University is thereby banned from any and all Sensha-Do related events happening in Japan. Be it legal or illegal. Reasons for this are following: illegally obtained tank from a black market, laying a minefield to seriously wound or kill participants of a match, two assassination attempts with an AT-rifle and violating an agreement between two opposing teams to play fair."
"We'll make sure to send this info to another countries, so Raven's Nest won't enter any other tournament, where they can kill or injure innocent people," he announced and watched with satisfaction as the crowd cheered and the JSDF soldiers, stationed as guards, marched towards his tanks that were outside the match.
Renta knew that this action would not only better his reputation, but also it would give him 30 tanks to put onto the official market for sale, so some of the schools would benefit from it too to get better for the upcoming International tournament.
Not that Gregor needs any of it anyway with the upcoming duo of Škoda T-25s and a ST vz. 39 nearing their expected arrival, he reminded himself and chuckled a bit as he put the mic back and walked over to his watching spot. It felt good hearing about one of the weaker schools (in terms of firepower) decided to upgrade their roster a bit, even if they had to sell seven AH-IV tankettes to somewhat balance the cost.
And with that in mind, Renta sat down and watched as the match started to enter its final stages with both sides having half of their teams out. "The highschoolers are better than expected," he heard one of the university headmasters mutter and resisted the urge to smirk at him. After all, he knew that the headmaster saw only the Shimada style of doing things in a Sensha-Do match.
