An absolute silence reigned on the chocolate room for a good half a minute after Augustus vanished inside the pipe. Then, almost at the same time, Mrs. Gloop started screaming in panic and Mr. Wonka began to laugh like he just saw the funniest thing ever. Sam stared at him, puzzled, and a shiver ran through his spine. "His immediate reaction to something like this happening is to laugh? Really?" The boy was a bit concerned about how twisted the chocolatier's mind seemed to be and was about to say something about it, but Noodle beat him to it.
-Dad!-She exclaimed-What's wrong with you? How can you laugh at that poor boy? Don't you realizeā¦
As she ranted, her father had pulled himself together. He gave her a slight head gesture and a wink, and she stopped her scolding at once, her angry frown replaced by a smirk. She called for one of the Oompa Loompas and asked him to guide Augustus' parents to where the boy had ended up, all of this with such a calm demeanor that the visitors couldn't help but wonder what on Earth was going on. However, neither of the hosts gave any more explanations about that, announcing the next part of the tour as if nothing had happened.
The tour had to continue by boat. A boat that could be described better as an enormous viking-style ship. It was a vibrant pink color and Sam's jaw almost dropped to the floor upon seeing it. As they all climbed aboard, Sam kept glancing at the father-daughter duo warily. The tour was exciting, that was something he couldn't deny, and he was sure the fact that it made his brother happy made it worth it, but he was starting to really fear his hosts. And the fact that they decided to sit near him and Charlie didn't help. He shook his head, trying to get his mind away from his worries by looking at the beautiful scenery.
-Here, take this-Mr. Wonka suddenly spoke, getting Sam's attention away from the beautiful flowers and trees. He was holding a mug full of chocolate, offering it to him-You look starved, boy.
Sam shifted uncomfortably on his seat. "Here we go again" he thought.
-Thanks, sir, but I'm not hungry-The boy lied, ignoring how his whole body felt as if it was protesting about his refusal.
The chocolatier casted him a worried look. He knew Sam was probably lying, but he decided not to push it and offer it to Charlie instead.
