AN: Fair warning, I do intend to put a lemon, in this chapter.
So, you've been warned.
If that's not your cup of tea; then you can skip over it.
LET'S JUMP INTO IT!
Jack was trying to come to terms with what happened with Rogue. Both before, and after the Sadie Hawkins dance. It started out, as a harmless dance. But then, he tried to kiss her. Then, the following day; he told her that she was amazing. At first, his relationship to Rogue, was simple. They started off, as acquaintances. Then they became friends. Friendship gave way, to admiration. Now, here he was; developing feelings for a girl, that he met, only a short time ago.
There was just something about Rogue. Something that drew him to her. It wasn't just that he thought that she was beautiful; which, he did. He couldn't explain it. Maybe it was her personality. Or, maybe it was the way that she talked to people. He did enjoy talking with her. Jack did everything; except for flat out, admitting his feelings to her. He didn't want to jump the gun. It was too soon to tell whether it was love, or not. He was currently trying to give her some space; after the events of the dance.
Jack was walking down the halls of The Institute; until he came upon Kitty, standing in front of a pair of doors. He was going to say hi; until Kitty heard a voice, on the other side of the doors. She couldn't help but listen in. Jack got curious; so, he joined her, in that endeavor. "I never asked to be a Mutant." They recognized that voice, as Mr. McCoy's.
"Why me?" Hank continued.
"In order to find that answer; each of us is faced with a unique journey, of discovery." Charles commented.
"Journey? Where do you go, when you can't be seen by the public?" Hank lamented. He felt trapped at The Institute. Unlike the others, his mutation, was painfully obvious. The Professor offered to make him an Image Inducer, just like he did for Kurt. But, Hank refused. He said, that would still be considered hiding. Kitty felt bad. She wanted to do something to help Mr. McCoy. Then, she was struck, with an idea. Jack recognized that look, on her face. He decided to follow her, into the room. He wanted to see where this was going.
"Professor, did you ask him, yet?" She said, as she came to stand next to Xavier.
"Uh, ask him?" Charles clearly had no idea what she was talking about.
"What are you up to, Kitty?" The Professor sent a psychic whisper to the young student.
"Well, maybe he could take some of us to the Redwood Forest; just to get away." She telepathically whispered back. The Professor, now understanding her intentions; thought it was a wonderful idea.
"Ah, yes! Hank, we were thinking; perhaps you'd like to lead a field trip to the California redwoods. Up for it?" Said Charles.
"What? No. I'm sorry! I can't." Hank responded.
"It really is, a marvelous idea. You can choose which students you feel would benefit from-"
"Someone else should do it!" Hank interrupted.
But Charles, didn't give up. "Please, Hank! Just imagine what you could teach them, in a natural environment, like the redwoods! Untouched by man. Miles away, from another Human being." Charles finished his pitch. Hank was starting to reconsider. A place to just, be himself. Sounded like Heaven.
"He's right, Mr. McCoy. And you know that if you teach the class; then I'll definitely go." Jack added.
Hank decided to go through with the field trip. He hand-picked the students, that were falling behind, in their Earth science studies. Students that he thought would benefit, from the experience. Not everyone was happy about this. With the exception of Kitty and Jack; no other student volunteered, for this assignment.
Before the field trip, Jack had to go home; and get the okay, from his mom. He told her that he would be gone, for about a day. She said that it was all right; considering that other students, would also be in attendance. He made sure to pack everything that he needed; before returning to The Institute.
The students used The Velocity, to reach their destination. Once they set down; they got to work, on camouflaging the helicopter. The kids who participated in the field trip were, Jack. Evan and Kitty. As well as some of The New Mutants. People like Bobby Drake. "Sunspot" , and Rahne Sinclair, AKA "Wolfsbane" .
Wolfsbane, like her name suggests, had the animal abilities of a wolf. She could even shift her body, into that of a wolf. Everyone was managing, fairly well. Everyone except for Evan, that is. He was a city kid. Someone who wasn't used to hiking in the woods, or camping. He sure as heck, complained about it, enough. They eventually found a campsite.
Setting up a tent, wasn't too difficult, for Jack. He had once bragged to Arcee, about his survival skills. The only difference between then, and now; is that, this time, he wasn't being chased by a murderous spider bot. That certainly helped, to calm the atmosphere, a bit. The class was picking, and studying different types of plants. It was going great; until Evan came down with a bad case of poison ivy. Thankfully, Kitty gave him some ointment.
As they continued their journey, through the woods; the group came upon a lake. Mr. McCoy gave them permission to take some time for themselves, and relax. Some of the kids, swam in the lake. Others, enjoyed sunbathing. Beast swung from the trees; and dived into the lake. He got out; and shook the water off of himself, like a dog. Hank had a disappointed look, on his face. Despite being in such a beautiful place; something was clearly nagging at him. Jack picked up, on this. He went after Hank.
"Is something wrong, Mr. McCoy?"
"Oh, no, Jack! Everything's fine. Out here, in this place; I'm enjoying the animal I've become."
"Well, isn't that, a good thing?" The teen asked.
"Not for me. I don't want to enjoy it. This is not who I am." Hank lamented.
Jack put his hand on Mr. McCoy's shoulder; in an attempt to comfort him. "Can I tell you something?" Jack waited for the go ahead, from his teacher; before he continued to speak. "I don't think being a Mutant, changes who we are. Not at the core of our beings. It may change our outlooks, on life. Or maybe, it can change what we are; but it will never change who we are. When I first got my powers; it scared me. To know that I wasn't Human.
Don't get me wrong! The new abilities, are impressive. But, it wasn't easy for me, to accept that I was different; not right from the get-go. There was one bit of good, that I was able to hold on to. Something that kept me centered. It was knowing that this thing, that was happening to me; didn't change who I was. I was still me. I still have a mom; who will love me, no matter what. I still have friends; who will stand by me, through thick and thin.
Then, there were the things that I gained, along the way. I got to meet my dad; and build a real relationship, with him. I made new friends. I accepted what I am; and made peace, with it. Honestly, sometimes being a Mutant, feels like a gift. Not just because of the powers. But, because of all it's given me. My point is, Mr. McCoy! Being this way, doesn't change who you are. You are still Hank McCoy. Teacher, and scientist. You're just, more than you were, before. Who knows? Maybe this is who you were meant to be."
Jack's words, did have an impact on Mr. McCoy. He didn't want to admit it; but maybe, the boy was right. "We should head back to camp. Round up the others, ok?" Hank told Jack, before he walked away.
"No problem, Mr. McCoy!" Jack answered back. He hoped that he was able to reach Mr. McCoy, with his speech. He just wanted to help him.
Jasper
June knew that Jack would be away; on his camping trip, for a while. What she didn't expect; was for Logan to show up, on her doorstep, at that moment. Thinking that he was there, to see Jack; she told him that he wasn't here. Logan revealed that he knew about the field trip. So, he knew exactly where Jack was. That's not why he came, knocking on her door. In all honesty, he just wanted to see her. He and June; hadn't really gotten the chance to talk, in a while. An oversight, that he wished to correct.
"June, I was hoping that we could talk, for a bit. We didn't really get to catch up. Which, I get; considering all the craziness that we've had to deal with, as of late. Maybe there's a nice local restaurant. We could go, sit down; eat some food, and shoot the breeze."
"Logan, I don't know if-" She tried to politely refuse.
"Ah, come on, June! Please!" He interrupted.
June was deep in thought. Bless his heart! He's trying. She remembered how charming Logan could be; and she didn't want to seem cruel. "Alright, I know a place. Let me get my keys!" She said. Just as she was about to go back inside, to get her car keys; that's when Logan spoke up.
"Or, we could just take my ride." He then pointed to his motorcycle.
"You serious?" She asked.
"Yeah, come on! It'll be just like old times." He encouraged.
"Alright!" She said, before they both walked over to the motorcycle. Logan hopped on; and gave her one of his spare helmets. She strapped it on; and got on the bike, right behind him. "This brings back memories. We haven't done this, since before Jack was born. I remember that you tried to convince me to ride with you, while I was pregnant. Thank God, that I didn't, though."
"Ah, good times." Logan reminisced.
The two rode to a sit down restaurant. They had a good meal; and laughed at their shared memories. Even though she didn't think that she would; June was actually having fun with Logan. All those forgotten emotions; came rushing back to her. Logan was a good husband; and nothing excited him more, than the thought of being a dad. He wanted to have a family with June, more than anything. Despite his violent past; Jack and June, managed to bring out his kinder side.
If June hadn't done what she did; she knew that he would have been a good father to their son. She remembered that he once spent hours; building a crib for Jack. Logan always liked thinking about the future, as a dad. He thought about things like, teaching Jack how to ride a bike. Playing baseball, with his son. Having family barbecues. He often fantasized about what would happen, when Jack got older. Showing him how to shave. Teaching him to drive. Giving him "The talk" , when it comes to girls.
All the things that June deprived him of. It broke her heart; and opened a void, in the pit of her stomach. "Logan, I never really apologized for this. But, I'm sorry for taking our son away from you! I know why I did that. But, the last thing that I wanted, was to hurt you. You were so excited to be a dad; and I took that from you. I'm sorry!"
"It's alright, June! Water under the bridge. You did what you had to; to protect our boy. And for the past sixteen years; you've done a pretty good job of that. We can't go back. But, maybe we can look forward." When they were done eating; the bill came due. June was about to take care of it; until Logan beat her to the punch. "It's okay, June! I got this one." He wrote a check; and left a tip, for the waitress. June saw the name that he used, to sign for the check. The name read "Logan Darby" .
"You're still using the name, Darby?"
"Only when I have to sign for something." He answered.
"I thought you would have dropped that, as a last name, by now."
"Why would I? It's a reminder of the family, that I still have. Plus, it's the only last name; that I can remember having. You know. Amnesia, and all." It was sweet to find out, that even though Logan was away from them; he still valued his connection to his family. He drove June home; and they both got off the motorcycle. She walked to the door. But, before she could open it; Logan spoke up.
"June!" He said, causing her to turn, and face him. "I miss you. I've been missing you and Jack, for the last sixteen years. I understand why you left; and, I'm not mad at you for doing it. But, the one regret, that I've always had; is that I didn't try hard enough, to keep us all, together. I believed that what I was doing with the kids at The Institute, was important. And, it was. I was able to help, so many people. I should have fought for us, though. I guess, what I'm really trying to say, is this."
He got closer to June; and stopped, just a step or two, away from her. "June, is there any way that we could give this another chance? I want to be with you. I want to raise Jack, with you, as a family."
"Logan, I don't know about that. So much time has passed; with us being away from each other. Having you back in Jack's life, has been good. But, it took everything I had; to walk away from you. I'm not sure I have the strength to go through that, again."
"Instead of worrying about what could go wrong, down the road. Why don't we try focusing on right now? Looking at what's right in front of us; and going after what we want. Tell me that you don't still care about me; and I'll never bring it up, again."
June thought about it, for a second. Her feelings for Logan, had never really died. "Well, honestly; I never stopped loving you."
"I never stopped loving you either, darlin!" He responded. A part of June, always loved it when he called her that. "So, does this mean-"
June shushed Logan; by resting her finger, against his lips. She placed her hands on his chest, before answering. "Let's just see how we feel, after this!" She then leaned in; and kissed Logan, right on his lips. Logan returned the kiss, in kind. He lifted June up; and carried her into the house, bridal style. He made his way to her bedroom; and laid her down on the bed. They continued with their make out session.
"God, I've missed this!" She said.
"Same here." He replied.
They wasted no time, in tearing each other's clothes off. Soon, they were down to their underwear. Not long after that, even their underwear, had been discarded. They were now, completely bare skinned. June undid her ponytail; and let her hair, flow free. She placed kisses, in the nape of Logan's neck.
He returns the favor, by pinching one of her nipples, between his two fingers. This drove her wild, with passion, and lust. Logan kissed her; with his tongue, begging for access, into her mouth. June opened her mouth; and their tongues, wrestled for dominance. The French kiss ended; and Logan positioned his member, in front of June's entrance. Logan thrusted himself inside of her.
"Oh God!" She managed to stammer out, in pleasure.
Logan held June close to him. "June, you still feel so good." He grunted, as he continued to thrust, in and out of her.
June wrapped her legs around Logan's hips. She spent a little over a decade and a half, away from the man she loved. She wasn't willing to let him go, again. Not anytime soon. Logan repeatedly kissed her neck. She responded, by forcing her tongue, down his throat. She could feel her end approaching. "Logan, I'm about to-"
"I know. I can smell it, on you. It's okay! I'm about to finish, too." He told her.
June laid back, as they both climaxed. After the orgasm washed over her, she was spent. She had no energy left. Logan, however, was still moving, inside of her. He still had energy, to burn. This caused June to remember. She had forgotten about his enhanced stamina. Unlike most people, it takes him awhile to get tired. The healing factor, at its best. He climaxed, a few more times, after that. With his stamina; this could have gone on, for hours. But, he knew that June was exhausted. So, he decided to stop. They had both been equally satisfied.
He laid down, on the bed, next to her. If there was one time; that June actually wanted Logan to be an animal, it was in the bedroom. Years later, and he was still, rocking her world. "Wow! I had almost forgotten, what it was like." She turned her head, to face him. "Was it as good as you remember?"
"No." He answered, simply. This caused June, to have a worried look, on her face. Logan turned towards her, and continued. "It was better." His second answer, made June light up. "That was definitely worth waiting sixteen years for." Logan said, as he brushed his hand against her cheek.
This made June, stop, and think. "Wait! Are you saying that you haven't had sex with anyone, since I left?"
"No. I mean, when I was on the road, I thought about it. There were temptations. But, my thoughts always went back to you and Jack. The people that I lost. What about you?"
"Well, there are a few handsome doctors, where I work!" June said, with a chuckle. Logan smirked, at her humorous response. "But, I was more focused on being a good mother, to our son. And, no other man, ever came close to capturing my heart; the way that you did." June was tracing her finger, across Logan's chest. "So, no. It's been a while, for me, too." Neither one of them, had slept with anyone else; since they lost each other. If that wasn't romantic, then June wouldn't know what was.
"I love you, June!" Logan admitted.
"And I love you, Logan! With all my heart." She responded. They leaned in, and kissed, for one last time. Then, Logan cradled June, in his arms. June was at peace; with her head, resting peacefully, against Logan's chest. She had forgotten how much she loved to be held, by him. They both laid there, until they fell asleep.
Back at the field trip; Beast was walking through the woods. He heard some noises; and suspected that he was being watched. What he couldn't have known; was that the people who were watching him, were Bigfoot hunters. They had a campsite, not too far from where the Mutants were staying. Most of them were just obsessive nerds. They gathered non-scientific proof, of their findings. Among the group, there was one actual scientist. Unfortunately for everyone else; he dismissed their findings, as non-factual.
One of the campers, had actually managed to capture video footage of Beast. They mistook him for Bigfoot. There were two men, with guns. They were actual hunters. The video, was all the proof they needed. They were intent on catching Bigfoot.
Mr. McCoy gave the class an assignment. They were to bring back, five different mineral samples. The class griped, and complained. He said that it shouldn't take them, more than an hour. Leaving them plenty of time, to have fun, later. He then went off, into the woods; leaving the class, to there assignment. Hank was swinging from the trees; when he came across the Bigfoot nerds. They were making Bigfoot calls, to try to attract him.
Hank got down from the trees; and hid behind a boulder. He decided to pull a prank, on the nerds. He gave off a roar; and pushed the boulder, down the hill. The nerds scattered. What Hank didn't expect; was that the scientist, and hunters, were in the bushes, behind him. They shot him, with tranquilizer darts. He ripped out the darts; and angrily chased after one of the hunters. The scientist pressed a button, on a remote; and activated a cage.
The cage trapped Beast. When he grabbed onto the bars, he was electrocuted. He then fell unconscious. The group took Hank, back to their campsite. Hank started to wake up. The hunters claimed that they were going to kill him; and make a coat, out of his fur. But the scientist who caught him, wouldn't allow it. He said that Beast was a wonder of nature. As such, it was their responsibility to respect it. The hunters laughed at the scientist's response; before they walked off. The scientists blamed himself; for allowing those hunters to join his expedition.
The kids were looking for Mr. McCoy, with no luck. He was just, gone. Then Kitty had an idea. "Rahne, do you think you can track Mr. McCoy's scent?"
"Um, I guess so. I've never tried anything, like that." She responded.
"That's okay! If you want, I can teach you." Jack chimed in. "One time, my dad took me into the woods; and showed me how to use my animal senses. Tracking a scent, was one of the things that I learned." Rahne turned into her wolf form. Jack then began to instruct her. "Try to remember what Mr. McCoy smelled like! Then, follow that sent! It will lead you, right to him." Wolfsbane, and Jack; began to sniff the air. They had his scent. The group all of them, as they ran off.
Back at the Bigfoot campsite; the scientist was drinking a cup of coffee. Then, Hank started to speak. "Hey!" His sudden words, startled the scientist.
"Did you say that?" The scientist said, as he approached the cage. "Human...Human...Human." The scientist said; while pointing at himself, to clarify.
"I have to admit, this cage is brilliant. I'm guessing, some kind of convex polarity reversal." Hank's observation, made the scientists drop his mug. He wasn't expecting Hank, to be that intelligent.
"Good heavens! You can speak." The scientist stammered out.
"Am I right?" Hank said, in reference to the cage.
"Oh, yes. Convex polarity rev- How do you know of such things?"
"They'll give anyone a degree, these days." Hank replied. The scientist was starting to realize, that Hank, wasn't Bigfoot. But then the question was, who was he? Hank said that if he let him out; they could talk, some more. The scientist was about to release him; when the hunters showed up. They asked what he was doing. The scientist was going to tell them that the creature they captured, could talk. But, Hank motion for him not to. The scientist kept his secret. The hunters walked off.
"By now, there are others, looking for me." Hank murmured.
"There are more, like you?" The scientist questioned.
"Not exactly. We're all special, in a different way. But, you can see why we need to hide ourselves from the world."
"Oh, don't worry! We'll find a way to release you." The scientist promised.
The kids tracked Hank's sent, to the campsite; where he was being held. But, it was cleared out, already. It started to rain. The researchers, were traveling on a mountain road; when a mudslide occurred. Their vehicles went off the road, and into a lake. Then a flash flood happened. The vehicles were slammed against a tree; and Hank's cage broke off. The cage was submerged, underwater. Hank was being swept away, by the current.
The X-Men came upon the disaster. Bobby created an ice damn; to cut off the flow of water. When the sun broke through the clouds; Sunspot absorbed the energy, lit on fire, and jumped into the water. He broke apart the cage, freeing Beast; and swimming them both, to the surface. Hank choked up the water, that he swallowed. "Are you alright, Mr. McCoy?" Asked Kitty.
"Yes. Thanks to you. But, there are people trapped, upstream. Let's go, go!" Beast instructed. The researchers were hanging on to a tree; and about to be swallowed by the river. Beast ripped a tree from the ground; and used it, as a bridge. The X-Men crossed the makeshift bridge; and began to rescue the people. When the hunters were safe, they began to chase Beast; despite the fact that he saved them. The scientist told the hunters to leave him alone. But they didn't listen.
The X-Men went to help their friend. A hunter took aim at Beast; but Wolfsbane snatched the gun, from his hands. Bobby froze the gun of the other hunter; before smashing it to pieces. "Yo! Here's the word. Bigfoot's got friends. Get the point?" Said Evan, while popping out his spikes. One of the hunters, started to run. The other hunter was looking for his gun; only to see that Kitty had it, while currently phasing through a tree.
Both hunters were cornered, by Wolfsbane; who morphed her appearance, into that of a werewolf. The other X-Men joined her. When Jack arrived; the hunter saw him unleash his claws. "What do you want to do to them?" Bobby inquired, with a devious grin, on his face.
Beast was perched on the tree, above the hunters. He didn't look too happy. "I'm thinking." Beast snarled.
"If I were you; I'd start running, before he makes up his mind." Shadowcat commented. The hunters took off, out of fear.
The scientist stood on a hill; observing the whole interaction. "Fascinating group. I'd love to know more!" He spoke.
"Someday, you will." Hank responded. The scientist smiled, at this answer.
When the researchers regrouped; the hunters explained what they saw. "I'm telling you, he talked. And those kids weren't Human."
"One of them shot spikes from his body. And one froze the gun, in my hands. There was even one, who grew claws; from out between his knuckles. " The other hunter claimed. The researchers weren't buying it. They may have been obsessed with Bigfoot; but they weren't stupid enough to believe a story, like that.
"You saw what happened. Tell em!" The hunter said, to the approaching scientist.
"It's all very interesting. But, it's hardly proof." The scientist responded. He was keen on keeping the X-Men's secret. This made the hunters look like fools.
The weather was clearing up; and The Velocity took flight, with the X-Men inside. "Boy, Mr. McCoy! Without you, that flash flood could have been a real disaster." Bobby stated.
"As a wise, young boy, once told me. We are who we're meant to be." Hank replied, while looking over to a smiling Jack. "So, I guess the students aren't the only ones who learned something, on this class trip." The Velocity continue to fly back to The Institute.
After getting back to The Institute; Jack called for a Ground Bridge, and Arcee gave him a ride, the rest of the way home. He then went inside. "Mom! I'm home." He said. This caused June to wake from her slumber. She saw that she was still in bed, with Logan. She started to panic. What would Jack think, if he saw them, together. Thinking fast, she got out of bed. Her sudden movements, also managed to wake Logan up.
She put on her underwear; and threw on a robe. June opened the door; and greeted her son, just outside of her bedroom. She closed the door, behind her; so he wouldn't see what was going on. "Honey! I didn't think you'd be back, so soon. How was your trip?" She said, in the hopes of distracting him.
Jack saw his mother; standing outside of her room, in her robe. She looked nervous. Almost like, she had something to hide. "It was fun. And, what do you mean; that you didn't expect me back, so soon? I told you that the trip was only going to last, for a day."
"Oh, that's right. I'm sorry! I forgot."
Just then, the door behind her, opened up; and a fully clothed Logan, walked out. When Logan exited the room; he put his jacket on, before he began to speak. "Oh, hi Jack! How's it going?" It was then, that Jack understood what was going on. He smirked at the humor of the situation. That's why his mom was so nervous. Her and his dad were "Reconnecting" . She was acting as though she did the walk of shame. Although, there was nothing to be ashamed of. They were both adults; and once upon a time, they were in love.
June was trying to find the right words to explain this. She wanted to make sure that Jack understood what was going on. "Uh, honey! I can...I can-"
Jack walked up to his mom; and placed his hands, on her shoulders. "No, mom. You don't have to explain. I get it. I'm glad you both had fun. Now, it's been a long day. So, if you don't mind; I'm going to go upstairs, and get some sleep." He left his parents; and went up to his room. He put his stuff away; before crashing on his bed. Of all the things that could have happened today; Jack never would have expected to come home, and see his parents, in the morning after.
It was nice to know that they were reconciling; whatever hurt feelings, that were between the two of them. Who knows? Maybe if things go well enough; they might even get back together. Jack knew not to get his hopes up, like that. Still, it would be nice to live with both of his parents. To know that it's not impossible for them to be a family, again. With that thought; Jack closed his eyes, and went to sleep.
AN: I hope you guys like this chapter. I enjoyed writing a lot of it. About the lemon; I had always intended to make it that Logan and June, get back together. I wanted to make it a passionate affair. Something that would just scream out; how much they still love each other. Hopefully, you all were able to pick up on that.
Remember, if you didn't like something about this chapter, then that's all you have to say! Don't go out of your way, to be a jerk, in the reviews! Be honest, but fair!
STAY AWESOME!
