CH 18
Beacon Medical Wing
"Dear Oum kid, don't do that." Qrow said as he sat back down in his seat and leaned back before taking a few more deep breaths.
As Jaune sat there and looked around and took in his surroundings he saw the IV he was hooked up to, along with some other medical monitoring devices on the walls around him.
"Uh, excuse me?" Jaune asked as his focus once again returned to the huntsman in the chair next to his bed.
"Give me a second kid." Qrow said before taking one last deep breath and sitting up fully in his chair as he stared at Jaune. "Now then, what question are you going to ask?"
"Uh well the first one would be, who are you?" Jaune asked.
"My name is Qrow, I'm a trusted friend of Ozpin. I'm also the uncle of Ruby and Yang. Anyway, Ozpin asked me to watch over the unit for a few nights and make sure nothing bad happens. Now then I have a question for you."
"I got an answer, you first." Jaune replied as Qrow's face showed he didn't find it funny.
"Just now you screamed 'I saw them!' as you sat up in bed. Think carefully and tell me just who did you see?" Qrow said with a serious tone.
"Well there was this lady on horseback, I know her as Amber. At least that's what Headmaster Ozpin and General Ironwood told me when they tried to have me heal her."
"Right. Go on."
"And well she was being attacked by these three people." Jaune said as he continued.
"We know that. Do you know any details about these people? Anything we might be able to use to identify them?" Qrow asked the blond knight.
"Well it was kind of vague and blurry but one had green hair, one had gray hair and one had black hair."
"Kid, if you can think of anything else, we'd really appreciate it. Hair color alone is not the best thing to go off of."
"Well the green and black haired ones were girls. The gray haired one was a guy."
"That it?" Qrow asked, hoping there was more to it than that.
"That's all I got sorry. I wasn't able to fully see her memories as I was more focused on trying to heal- WAIT!" Jaune said as he looked to Qrow frantically. "What happened to Amber? Did I help? Is she back?"
Hearing the boy's question, Qrow's head dropped as he tried to figure out a way to tell the blond knight that the person he was trying to save died. Jaune however saw this and drew his own conclusions, ultimately taking the answer out of Qrow's hands.
"She didn't make it did she?" Jaune said somberly.
"No kid, no she didn't." Qrow said with a sigh, before getting up and moving to stand towards Jaune some more. "Don't beat yourself up about it though. She was on her final leg when she got here and this was pretty much a last ditch effort. If anything this only helped her pass sooner and not suffer as long."
"Oh, well I guess that's good then? I-I'm going to lay back down and get some sleep if you don't mind." Jaune said as he laid back down in the hospital bed and pulled the covers back up to him.
Understanding what Jaune truly meant, Qrow nodded his head and exited the room with a simple "Goodnight Jaune."
After closing the door to Jaune's room, Qrow pulled his scroll and called Ozpin and after a few rings a groggy voice came through.
"Qrow do you have any idea what time it is? This had better be important."
"You said to update you about any condition changes on the kid, well he woke up."
"You called me at this hour of the night to tell me that? Qrow I had thought I implied tell me when normal hours if he wakes up." Ozpin said with a sigh.
"Yeah well it appears Jaune lived through Amber's last moments." Qrow said a smirk.
"Well that's nice, wait. What did you just say?" Ozpin asked, sounding very more awake than he just had.
"I said the kid recalled some events from Amber's last moments. Nothing too clear or insightful but three people like we knew already. Two females and one male. The two females had green hair and black hair, one of each color. Not a mix of the two. The male had gray hair."
"Hmm. That's interesting but not as much of a lead as I had hoped as hair dye does exist. Regardless I'll tell James this tomorrow and we'll see about background checks for green haired, or black haired huntresses and gray haired huntsmen." Ozpin said with a yawn. "If that's all I think the bed is calling my name again."
"Ozpin you might want to check closer to home for those background searches." Qrow said.
"You're not suggesting a Beacon student are you Qrow?" Ozpin asked cautiously.
"What? No. I'm talking about the Vytal festival. What better opportunity to sneak in than that?"
"Oh please Qrow, every student sent over is done by the headmasters of the academies. I would think I'd be able to trust them."
"Fake transcripts are easily made, Ozpin. No point in not being double sure. They obviously know they didn't get her and if what you mention about the bunny girl turns out to be true then the attackers still wouldn't have her power. So, they'll think Amber still lives and go after her in Beacon."
"Point taken, I guess we'll check that tomorrow."
"Alright, go continue my watch for a bit then get back in bed. You and Ironwood have fun tomorrow checking those backgrounds." Qrow said before going to hang up before Ozpin's voice stopped him.
"Oh but Qrow," Ozpin said in what one could only describe as a near sinister voice, "I said WE will check that tomorrow. No escaping this job since you brought it up." Ozpin finished with a laugh before hanging up.
"Man I hate my semblance sometimes…" Qrow said as he found a seat and sat down trying to get some rest in for what would be a long day tomorrow.
Morning sunlight filtered through the hospital rooms windows and curtains like coffee through the coffee filter at the coffee machine Qrow was currently groaning at.
"I hate my semblance, I hate my big mouth, and I hate that bastard." Qrow said as he poured himself a cup of coffee.
"Talking to yourself again Qrow? That's not a healthy habit." Tsune said as she walked past the man and took the coffee cup from him.
"Damnit Tsune, I need that coffee." Qrow said as the nurse walked away from him.
"Then pour another, there are more mugs right by the machine." Tsune said smugly as she kept walking away.
"Ughh." Qrow groaned as he poured another cup before proceeding to head up towards Ozpin's office.
Tsune meanwhile had made her way to Jaune's room, cup of coffee still in hand and peaked her head into the room to see if he was awake, which he was.
"Ah Mr. Arc, I see you're awake." Tsune said as she saw Jaune sitting up in bed looking out the window.
"Yeah, I woke up some time early this morning and talked to Qrow for a bit."
"And afterwards you went back to bed, correct?" Tsune asked as she wrote down some notes on her clipboard.
"Yes, that's correct." Jaune said as he looked at the fox faunus quickly jotting down notes.
"Alright well we'll get some tests done on you and see how you're doing and move on from there." Tsune said as she moved to begin checking Jaune's vitals.
While Tsune was doing all this back in the dorms Pyrrha was getting ready for the day in their bathroom when Nora cornered her.
"You haven't done anything yet have you?" Nora said as she crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow.
"I've done some things." Pyrrha said as she glanced away from her ginger teammate.
"Pyrrha you gotta take this seriously, or else you're going to lose what little chance you have." Nora said as she looked at her teammate.
"Nora, I don't even know if this is a good idea. I don't even know if what you said is applicable in today's society, and she'll have lawyers looking into this."
"If you don't try, you'll never even know. That is why you have to at least try."
"Alright, thanks Nora." Pyrrha said as she went back to getting ready for the day.
"Anytime Pyrrha, now go get that title of Mrs. Fearless leader." Nora said with enthusiasm before she exited the bathroom and from the sound of it jumped back onto her bed.
As Pyrrha glanced over at her scroll to check the time she noticed that her scroll had a message notification icon on the screen.
Putting down the hairbrush, Pyrrha picked up her scroll and saw it was Winter who was returning her text from last night.
"Hey Pyrrha, I would be happy to meet up with you and chat again today. How does 1600 sound? Beacon's classes end at 1500 right?"
"Military time, and short and concise messages. Didn't expect much else if I'm being honest." Pyrrha said with an amused thought as she sent Winter a quick confirmation text and went back to getting ready.
On the other side of the scroll conversation Winter set her scroll down with a smile on her face as she began looking forward to the end of the day.
She quite enjoyed the previous conversation with the redhead known as "The Invincible Girl." Indeed she was smart, polite, and quick witted when she wanted to be.
After finishing getting dressed in her specialist uniform and making sure everything was crisp and proper, Winter exited her room and began her trek to the office of General Ironwood.
Only when she got there, she found no one was occupying the office. Naturally she assumed Ironwood was in Headmaster Ozpin's office and upon arrival she found, well, a complete scene of chaos and shouting for one, but she did see the general so she was right.
After a few failed attempts of clearing her throat to announce her presence she tried again a fourth time loud enough to drown out the voices of the shouting men in the office.
"Ah Ms. Schnee." Ozpin said before turning to Ironwood, "It appears you have a visitor, James."
"Ice Queen." Qrow said as he sat back down in his seat.
"Qrow." Winter said in acknowledgement before turning back to the two headmasters. "I was currently trying to find you for my assignment for the day."
"Perfect. Winter if you could I would like you to go and not necessarily stand guard but stay put around the infirmary for the day. Jaune Arc, and Velvet Scarlatina are currently there and we would like it if someone was there just in case something happens. We think this fall might signal the year of the rabbit." Ironwood said as he gave a coded message to Winter.
"Understood sir." Winter said as she marched back to the elevator before the General's first sentence truly dawned on her. "It's Jaune Arc-Schn- wait, why is he in the infirm-" Winter said as the elevator doors closed on her.
"She couldn't finish hah." Qrow said as he laughed from his seat.
With a sigh Ozpin looked towards Qrow before speaking. "Qrow go get some sleep. I want you out patrolling the streets tonight. Find Torchwick and bring him in, I don't care how beat up he is just make it happen." Ozpin said with a serious tone.
"Woah Oz, you're serious about this aren't you?" Qrow asked as he stood from his chair.
"Qrow, this will increase my coffee budget, I mean Beacon's budget, so of course I'm being serious. Now off you go." Ozpin said with a shooing motion of his hand.
"Fine I'm going you coffee addict." Qrow said as he walked to the elevator that had just come back up and got in it.
After the doors had closed Ozpin looked to Ironwood before speaking. "James, you know I don't like our group expanding before I approve of it. What if SHE got word of that?"
"Look Ozpin I would normally go to you for that but I needed someone in Atlas and someone I trusted, who wouldn't look out of place being there by my side."
"Hmmm." Ozpin said as he folded his hands in front of him. "I guess you're right but please do not do it again. That's all I ask."
"And I ask what we're going to do with this new information." Ironwood said as he motioned to the files on the desk.
"Several people match the description of green haired, gray haired, and black haired but one team we found has all three on it. Indeed what to do."
"Oh come on Ozpin, it's obvious. We need to detain them upon arrival, and then go question Lionheart. Or maybe do the two in reverse order."
"And what if the students don't turn out to be infiltrators James? What then would we do with the unlawful detaining case brought against us?"
"Say it was a case of mistaken identity, obviously. Maybe throw in some extra credit on their classes here if necessary to make them happy. Which I doubt will be needed, as this is exactly what we should expect her to do."
Ozpin let out a groan as he rubbed his temples before releasing a sigh. "Fine, temporarily detain them for questioning, just be subtle about it. Please?"
"Will do Oz, and about Lionheart." Ironwood said before Ozpin held up a hand.
"James, I've made many mistakes in my lifetime, but I do like to think I'm a good judge of character."
"Oz I'm not asking to throw the guy in an interrogation room." Ironwood said to which Ozpin responded by raising an eyebrow.
"Ok, maybe I am, but there's a reason I'm so paranoid. I have good reason to be. Where was she attacked?" Ironwood asked with a raised eyebrow of his own.
"Fine, how about this. I'll call Lionheart and you can watch from out of camera view and observe him for anything you might deem a lying factor. Then we can proceed after that. Deal?" Ozpin asked.
"Deal." Ironwood said as Ozpin hit the phone button on his desk scroll monitor.
"Wait Oz." Ironwood said as Ozpin halted his motions.
"When are those transfer students coming to Beacon?"
"Later today James. Why?"
"Call when they are in flight. This way Lionheart can't get ahold of them and warn them we might be on to them."
"If that is what you wish, meet me back here in three hours. They should be departing around then." Ozpin said as he closed the application.
"I'll be back in three hours then." General Ironwood said before turning and marching to the elevator to leave Ozpin's office.
"I guess I'll make plans for that call then." Ozpin said as he began checking his calendar.
Upon learning that Jaune was in the infirmary and her current assignment to go and guard it so as to be there as a protector in case something happens, Winter figured she would stop by and peek in Jaune's room just to see how he was doing.
To her surprise Jaune was sitting up in his bed and talking to Tsune. Winter was just going to peek her head in to check on him but Jaune noticed her before she could pull her head back out of the room and called out to her.
"Hey Winter. You come to check on me?"
Seeing as Jaune had already spoken to her, Winter fully opened the door and stepped inside.
"Hey Jaune, yeah Ironwood told me to hang around here for the day so when I heard you were in the infirmary I got nervous and thought I'd see how you were doing."Winter said giving a small smile.
"I'm doing good, I feel better at least, but I was knocked unconscious so I guess that's a low bar." Jaune said with a small laugh.
"Your vitals are looking good so far Mr. Arc so it's definitely an improvement."
"Good, I'm glad to hear that." Winter said as she approached the bed and took a seat in the chair near the foot of the bed.
"Me too, maybe I can get out of here early. I'm craving a hot burger and some fresh fries." Jaune said with a laugh.
"Well maybe I can run down to the cafeteria and get you that once I'm done checking on the other student here in the ward." Winter said as she leaned back in her chair.
"Other student?" Jaune asked confused as to who else was in the infirmary.
"Yes, Ms Scarlatina is apparently also in the infirmary right now and the general informed me of that as well."
"What happened to Velvet?" Jaune asked as he turned his attention from Winter to Tsune who was finishing up checking his vitals.
"Ms. Scarlatina's health is private medical information but I can inform you that she was carried here by her teammates after she suddenly collapsed in the hallway." Tsune said in a matter of fact tone as she put away the medical instruments.
"Velvet collapsed?" Jaune asked, concern evident in his voice, as he looked towards Tsune.
"Yes Ms. Scarlatina collapsed but currently we are awaiting more results to determine the cause of said collapse." Tsune said as she walked to the door before looking back towards the two other occupants of the room.
"Now if you all will excuse me I have to go checkup on Ms. Scarlatina as your tests all came back normal but I will need you to remain in the infirmary at least for observation until tonight or tomorrow morning." Tsune said before she exited the room and gently closed the door behind her.
As she walked over to Velvet's room Tsune found the rabbit faunus to be still unconscious as she laid in her bed and began checking her vitals as well to ensure nothing was amiss that she could identify.
As she was doing that the conversation between Jaune and Winter continued in Jaune's room.
"So besides apparently ending up in the ICU, how is everything else going?" Winter asked Jaune with a small laugh.
"Uh, pretty good I guess."
"Well that's good. Hopefully you can get out of here soon and get back to doing what you're supposed to be doing and avoid doing what you did to wind up here."
"Well that shouldn't be an issue anymore." Jaune said with a hint of sadness in his voice as he looked away from Winter.
Noticing this, Winter became concerned. "Jaune, what happened to make you wind up here?" Winter asked as she leaned closer to the blond knight occupying the hospital style bed.
"Well," Jaune said as he began recounting the details of how he ended up in the infirmary.
A few minutes later, Jaune had finished wrapping up the story of how he got here and Winter leaned over to give him a hug.
"It's not your fault she died Jaune. Just remember that. She was more than likely not going to make it anyway. What the headmasters had you do was a last ditch effort to save her because they had no other hope. That woman's death isn't on you, and don't you forget it." Winter said before pulling back to look Jaune in the eyes.
"This isn't a fairytale where everyone gets a happy ending, Jaune. Sometimes people won't make it no matter how hard we try. It's a sad fact of life that I've come to know all too well serving in the Specialists. I'm going to go check on Tsune and Velvet now, I'll see you in a bit, okay?" Winter said as she stood and began walking to the door.
"I'll remember that Winter, thank you. I'll see you in a bit." Jaune said with a smile as Winter gave a slight wave and exited through the door.
After closing the door behind her Winter quickly sent a text to Willow that Jaune was awake again and seemed to be healthy before sending a similar one to Pyrrha so she could tell the rest of Jaune's team.
On the other end of those messages the two recipients both smiled as they saw the message. Pyrrha read the message before turning and relaying the message to her team before Professor Port could begin a long winded speech to start class. To which her fellow redhead responded with "We should go see him after class."
"I actually have plans for after class." Pyrrha responded, causing Nora to look confused before giving a smirk.
"You're giving up on Fearless Leader already? And you already have a hot date too?" Nora said in her most teasing tone.
"Shush you, I'm just getting some advice from Winter." Pyrrha said back before the ninja-like member of JNPR jumped into the conversation.
"Port is getting ready to start you two, take good notes because I'm not sharing if you miss them by talking." Ren said before turning his attention back to the Professor.
Meanwhile in downtown Vale, as Willow was getting ready for the day, she saw the message from her daughter pop up on her scroll which was set by the bathroom sink.
"It's so nice we're all talking again. While I can never get back the years lost it is nice to think I have the future ones to look forward to and it's all thanks to Jaune for-" Willow thought to herself before her thoughts were abruptly cut off as she let out a gasp.
"I was so exhausted last night I didn't read the message Ozpin sent after I got Terra and her family a room here." Willow said aloud before putting down the hair dryer and opening her scroll to the message Ozpin sent.
"Dear Mrs. Arc-Schnee,
As requested I am providing details of the incident that put your husband into the school's infirmary. An associate of mine was traumatically injured and was on death's door by the time she was transported to Beacon on life support. As you know, your husband's semblance can do wonders to heal people in dire straits and such I asked him if he would be willing to try and give healing her a try. Jaune agreed and we began making our way to a rather secretive ICU area of Beacon. One for high value/highly sought after patients.
As Jaune tried to heal the woman, complications arose and his aura/semblance seemed to rebound off the woman and sent him careening into one of the walls around the life support the woman was in. This impact caused what was left of his aura to shatter and knocked him unconscious. Immediately upon seeing this he was picked up and carried to the Infirmary, currently staffed by Dr. Tsune, at which he is presently located.
Dr. Tsune assured us it was just aura exhaustion and he would be awake relatively soon as well as assuring us that she wouldn't expect him to be in the infirmary too long.
Hopefully this clears things up.
Best,
Headmaster Ozpin."
"Huh, I guess the threat of lawsuit from one of if not the most ruthless lawyer group on Remnant can be the kick in the pants someone needs to give me answers. Good to know, now to see what Winter sent me." Willow said to herself as she closed out the message from Ozpin to open Winter's.
It was a relatively simple message of "Jaune is awake, thought you'd want to know." and it was something Willow appreciated and quickly sent back a message of "Thank you" before closing that conversation as well and selecting Jaune's.
With a few taps she sent a message asking how he was feeling and to inform him she'd stop by later on before hitting the send button and getting back to getting ready for the day. After all, she had a busy day to attend too.
Meanwhile back in Beacon, Headmaster Ozpin was currently staring at the pictures of the aforementioned "Haven students" and trying to decide if anything could be done on his end whilst he waited to call Lionheart when his scroll buzzed a few times.
Looking away from the pictures strewn about his desk, Ozpin grabbed and opened the scroll to see the buzzing had been caused by a message from Tsune about Mr. Arc's and Ms. Scarlatina's health conditions.
"Well since Mr. Arc is awake, I may as well go inquire in person about how he is feeling, and maybe a picture or two can jog his memory." Ozpin said aloud as he grabbed the three pictures and began walking to his elevator to go talk to the blond knight.
A short while later and a rather long elevator ride with frankly quite boring elevator music, something Ozpin would be changing later, Ozpin had arrived at the infirmary area of Beacon. As he was walking in, he saw Dr. Tsune at her desk going through documents at lightning speed.
Clearing his throat once to get her attention failed so Ozpin went for the more direct route. "Excuse me, Tsune?"
"Huh?" Tsune said as she looked up from her desk and paperwork. "Oh yes Headmaster Ozpin what can I do for you?"
"I just wanted to let you know I was here and wanted to get your opinion on the conditions of Mr. Arc and Ms. Scarlatina. You know besides what you already sent in the message." Ozpin said, hoping to clarify.
"Ah well I explained almost everything but here are the medical test results of both Jaune and Velvet." Tsune said as she handed Ozpin two pieces of paper.
Taking a moment Ozpin set his cane against the desk and began looking at the papers as he looked at the results.
"Interesting, it appears Mr. Arc is on the swift path to recovery while Ms. Scarlatina is still unconscious although her vitals are stable so that is definitely a good sign. Continue keeping an eye on her will you?" Ozpin asked as he handed back the papers to Tsune.
"Of course Ozpin."
"Oh and when do you think Mr. Arc will be released? I hear there are quite a few people interested in that tidbit of information."
"Yes, yes. I am well aware of the people pestering about Mr. Arc's condition. He should be able to be released later on this afternoon or this evening if he promises to take it easy for the next day or two to be safe as his aura levels have risen again." Tsune said.
"That's good to hear. I'm going to go talk to Mr. Arc for a few minutes so I'll leave you to get back to your paperwork."
"Thank you Ozpin, that's so wonderfully kind of you." Tsune said, sarcasm very evident in her voice as she began to work on her paperwork again.
Ozpin leaned down and picked up his cane again as he began walking down the hallway of rooms trying to look for the one that had Mr. Arc's name on it before after a few doors he came to a stop in front of it. Conveniently for the headmaster the knight's room was next to Ms. Scarlatina's room.
After two knocks on the door, Ozpin heard a "Come in." and opened the door to see the blond knight laying in the hospital bed with the tv remote in his hand.
"Hello Professor Ozpin, what can I help you with today?" Jaune asked as he saw the spectacled headmaster enter.
"Well I was just coming to firstly check up on your health and secondly see if some pictures could possibly expand upon your memories that you told to Qrow."
"Well I'm doing good right now. Tsune says everything is good so I'm hoping to be out of here soon. As for the memory stuff I already said it was pretty fuzzy but I'm more than happy to look at the pictures you want to show me." Jaune said as he pushed a button on the hospital bed and raised to a fully sitting up position.
Ozpin smiled as he pulled up a chair next to the young man's hospital bed before he opened the folder he had put the pictures in and showed the first one.
In the picture was a pale, young man with gray eyes and gray hair which partially slicked back while unkempt at the front. He was wearing a slate gray and black two-tone partial-zip jacket.
"Does this person look familiar to you?" Ozpin asked as he watched the boy closely for any signs.
Jaune looked at the picture closely for several seconds trying to rack his brain for answers before he spoke.
"The hair looks familiar and maybe, MAYBE, that jacket but it's hard to tell. Everything I saw was so quick I just don't think it had enough time to process the faces. I'm sorry." Jaune said as he looked down at his lap wishing he could be more of a help.
"That's quite alright Jaune. We didn't expect any of this to be an option so any information however insignificant it might seem is still helpful." Ozpin said as he chose a less formal tone to hopefully try and cheer the boy up and encourage him to keep trying.
"Now then how about this one?" Ozpin said as he lowered the gray haired student's picture and held up a different one.
The young woman in this picture had medium-brown skin and dark-red eyes. Her hair was a light, mint-green with a straight fringe and bangs as well as two long locks on each side in the back. She wore an intricate white top and an olive-colored crop top that seemed to show off her chest rather well.
"I guess these must be the images the students submitted themselves when they applied for the school. I doubt the school would let these be the official school photos." Jaune thought to himself as he tried to recognize anything in the picture.
As Jaune stared at the picture presented for him he tried to remember anything he could but the only thing that even seemed to remotely be something he could recall was that the shade of green and the cut was a familiar looking one but he couldn't say for sure.
After explaining this to Ozpin the man frowned and lowered the picture before he began the motion to hold up another one as Jaune chose to interrupt.
"Um Headmaster, we aren't going to be doing this all day are we?" Jaune asked nervously.
"No Mr. Arc we are not. This is the final picture." Ozpin said as he held up the last picture.
In this picture was a fair-skinned woman with ashen-black hair that covered a portion of her left eye. Although the hair seemed to do little to diminish the bright amber eyes she had. In the picture she wore a dark red, off-the-shoulders v-neck mini dress with yellow designs on the dress along her chest and arms.
As Ozpin held up the last picture he watched closely once again for any signs of changes in Jaune's appearance that he might be able to pick up that would have a reaction even if the boy might not completely remember the details of the person the mind might still react and react it did.
Ozpin saw the boy's eyes widen, almost seemingly in fear, as he looked at the woman in the picture, and after a few seconds of staring at the picture the blond knight spoke.
"Yeah I think I recognize her. The hair and the eyes are definitely something that I think I remember. I-I'm sorry I can't say for sure." Jaune said as he looked away from the picture being held up.
"It's quite alright Mr. Arc." Ozpin said as he lowered the picture and stood up. "Thank you for your help with this matter. Please do your best to keep it close to your chest though. We wouldn't want any of this getting out if these were in fact the attackers."
"Not a problem sir, I won't tell anyone. Arc's word." Jaune said before he let out a small laugh, "Well Arc-Schnee's word I guess it is now." Jaune added with another laugh.
"Indeed Mr. Arc, and by the way I do think you will be getting out of here soon. Have a good day." Ozpin said as he exited the room and gently shut the door behind him.
Ozpin stuffed the folder holding the pictures under his left arm and began quickly walking down the hall as he pulled out his scroll and sent a simple message to James.
"Get to my office, now."
A few minutes later Ozpin was approaching his elevator when he heard the tell-tale sound of someone running and right on time was General Ironwood as he rounded the corner.
"Ah James, on time as ever." Ozpin said as he held the door and the man walked in.
"Indeed. Now what is the urgency? You rarely send texts like that. I practically ran here from the other side of the campus when I saw it. Especially because we aren't supposed to call Leo for another half hour."
"I spoke to Mr. Arc and showed him the pictures of the three people we think match the descriptions of the attackers. The "Haven students" if you will." Ozpin said as the elevator door opened and he walked towards his desk.
"And?"
"And he didn't have much reaction to the first two. He commented that the haircut, style, color, etc looked familiar. All things we already knew and vague evidence at best. But the last picture I showed him, this one had a different reaction." Ozpin said as he pulled out the picture of an ashen black haired woman.
"And what of his reaction Ozpin?"
"It was one of fear. Not just any fear though, this was a look you might say of someone who saw death." Ozpin said seriously as he clasped his hands together in front of him.
"So it's her then? That's a good thing then that we know who it is. Right?"
"No James, you miss the point here. This woman was able to do something so horrific that even through Amber's memories Mr. Arc has become scared of her. I can only imagine what Salem might have given this woman in order to fulfill their objectives."
"Oh that's not good." Ironwood said as he looked at his friend.
"Thank you General Obvious." Ozpin replied with a sigh.
A/N: So here it is Chapter 18. Sorry it was so late but life has thrown just about everything at me minus the kitchen sink in the previous months. I also rewrote this a few times trying to figure out which plot points worked best before finally deciding to just push this out.
And for clarification I say Jaune was scared of Cinder as Amber watched a grim seemingly come out of Cinder and began to literally suck her soul out of her body. Jaune even getting a glimpse of that through her pov from her memories would be downright terrifying. Something he didn't fully realize until he saw her photo.
Next chapter I promise won't take nearly as long. There are fewer choices I have to make in which way I want to direct the story so look for the update on my profile soon for when it will be out.
Until next time!
