Many thanks to those who read and reviewed this fic. I really appreciated it and this gave me inspiration to work on the next chapter and here, the focus will be on Naegi and the others, as the tension intensifies as there will be a bit of action here…

Ch. 29: Bunri shita

The scene shifts at the road, where the Humvee is cruising as Ikusaba is driving it and carefully chooses which path has the lowest chances of encountering zombies, and she is determined to protect the passengers who are relying on her to ensure their safeties.

The passengers who are with Ikusaba are:

- Makoto Naegi

- Komaru Naegi

- Sayaka Maizono

- Kaede Akamatsu

- Natsumi Kuzuryuu

Although the group members are armed, they were told by Ikusaba that their ammo are somewhat limited and they should only use the weapons as a last resort, reminding them that they cannot allow themselves to get caught, as once they are caught there is little chance of escaping, which Makoto and the others nodded in agreement.

"Okay."

"Sure."

"Got it."

"We understand."

"We get the point…"

"We're ready."

"Let's roll out."

"Ikusaba!"

However, they soon saw a horde of zombies blocking the path, and Komaru shrieked in fear which Akamatsu hugged her while assuring the younger Naegi sibling that everything will be okay and she has nothing to worry about.

Ikusaba saw a corner to the right and she went there hoping that the road is clear, and while initially the road is clear, they soon saw more of them occupying both lanes of the road, and Ikusaba is not pleased with the developments, as this would stall their plans of heading out to the Kuzuryuu manor where the other Hope's Peak Academy survivors are waiting.

Makoto then told Ikusaba to turn left after seeing a corner, which Ikusaba nodded and told everyone to be ready for anything, expecting that they would encounter more of the zombies, which the others began arming themselves.

"Okay."

"Sure."

"Got it."

"We understand."

"We get the point…"

"We're ready."

"Let's roll out."

"Ikusaba!"

Makoto then told Ikusaba that they should ram their way through the horde as there is little room left to turn around, and the SHSL Soldier agreed, stating that it is too late turn back now and tells him to be ready as they will have to fight their way through the horde.

"Naegi!"

"Yeah?"

"Get ready!"

"Huh?"

"We may have to fight our way through. I doubt this Humvee might withstand an onslaught this many…"

"I…understand…"

"Brace yourself."

"Okay…"

However, Akamatsu saw something in front, and realized that there are wires affixed on both sides of the road, and tells Ikusaba to stop, which the SHSL Soldier did, and as Ikusaba and Makoto got out to assess the situation, they found out that the wires are thick and strong enough to stop the zombies in their tracks, but there is little to no room to get through it other than using a ladder to get over it.

Makoto asked if there is a spare ladder, which Ikusaba grimly said there is none at the Humvee, and there Maizono got out of the Humvee and gave Makoto a metal baseball bat to arm himself as she herself armed herself with a spear, and they, along with Ikusaba, braced themselves as they saw a horde of zombies slowly walking towards the teens.

Seeing the horde in huge numbers, Makoto told Akamatsu to go inside the Humvee and take Komaru with her to ensure their safety, which the SHSL Pianist agreed, but Komaru did not want to lose her brother and argued, which affected the others, their morale beginning to falter as the group realized that they are trapped.

"No! Onii-chan! Don't leave me alone! I don't want to lose you! Onii-chan!"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"Please! I lost my classmates! Our parents are missing! You're the only one I have left! Please don't die! Please don't leave me behind!"

"…"

"…"

"…"

Becoming desperate, Makoto went towards the wall where he banged the bat on a metallic garbage can to produce loud sounds, which Akamatsu followed suit, as she went near Makoto to make loud sounds, and it somewhat worked, as the zombies' attention are diverted and went towards the two, which partially gives the other teens room to try make an escape, and there Makoto and Akamatsu climbed the nearby stairs while banging the handlebars to produce louder sounds.

Ikusaba asked Makoto what will they do, and he tells Ikusaba to board the Humvee and proceed to the Kuzuryuu manor while there is still room to escape. She asked how will he and Akamatsu be able to escape, and he said he and Akamatsu will find a way, and tells Ikusaba to use the moment to mount an escape while there is still time.

"Are you serious, Naegi?"

"Yes!"

"Once we make an escape, we might not be able to pick you two up!"

"Akamatsu and I will manage! You need to take the others and use the moment to make an escape!"

"But…!"

"Don't argue! Just go!"

"…"

"Please! Ikusaba!"

Ikusaba gritted her teeth seeing that Makoto is acting quite recklessly yet it cannot be helped as she tells Maizono and Natsumi to board the Humvee which the two girls questioned if this is needed as they did not like the idea of leaving him behind.

The SHSL Soldier reluctantly said it is, as Makoto gave them the chance to escape and tells the two girls not to waste the opportunity that he made, which the two girls are forced to acknowledge what Ikusaba just said.

"Ikusaba…"

"Shit…fine."

"Huh? Just like that?"

"What else can we do, idol-brat?"

"…"

"We're in a pinch…and your boyfriend provided us an opening we need…"

"…"

"…"

As Maizono gets in, Natsumi had to pull a hysterical Komaru in as well, as she screamed to Makoto to come back, but the younger Kuzuryuu sibling tells Komaru to shut up and get inside, or else she would feed her to the zombies, which made her stop her squabbling, though Maizono asked Natsumi if she had to do that to Komaru.

Natsumi reasoned that she had to as Komaru is becoming a liability, and there the two girls began to squabble as Komaru remained quiet as she became fearful of what Natsumi said just now.

"You need to be considerate…!"

"I am!"

"By threatening here?"

"At least she knows when to shut up!"

"That's harsh!"

"Got another idea, you naughty nightingale?"

"What?"

"Hmph."

However, Ikusaba urged the two girls to stop as she tells them to brace up as she will ram her way through the zombies as they will make use of the opportunity to make a breakthrough, and the three girls hold on as the Humvee began to move and Ikusaba maneuvered and managed to get through, ramming a few zombies and soon the Humvee is on the free streets, and as the other girls are sighing in relief, Maizono and Komaru began asking Ikusaba what are they going to do next.

Ikusaba said that they are heading straight to the Kuzuryuu manor to drop them off before she heads back to find and pick up Naegi and Akamatsu, which Maizono and Komaru questioned why not find them now, which the SHSL Soldier said she couldn't as she cannot risk the safety of the passengers and reasoned that once the passengers are secured at the Kuzuryuu manor, then she can concentrate in finding Naegi and Akamatsu.

"And that's why."

"But…"

"Onii-chan…"

"It'd be better to drop you two guys off at the Kuzuryuu manor so I will have less to worry about."

"But…"

"Onii-chan…we can't…"

"That is that, so it's final. We're taking off."

"…"

"…"

Komaru became hysterical again, but Maizono began to calm her down, as she slowly see the logic in this, but Natsumi became irritated at Komaru's childish outburst and told her to keep quiet or she will throw her out and make her become a zombie bait, which puts Komaru in her place.

However, Maizono objected to Natsumi's method of calming Komaru down and told her it is not right, but Natsumi verbally shot back, and the two girls began to bicker and this resulted in a stare-off, but Ikusaba urged everyone to calm down, saying she can't concentrate if they all argue, and the three girls were forced to calm down and said they will keep quiet for now.

"Okay…"

"Fine…"

"…"

"We'll behave…"

"Just as long as this brat shuts up…"

"…"

"Kuzuryuu-san!"

"What?"

"…"

And so the Humvee continue to cruise and managed to find an open road, where they took the fastest possible routes in order to bypass any potential checkpoints as they are sure that the soldiers and policemen will definitely block the Humvee from passing through.

Indeed, as the Humvee stopped near a checkpoint where you can see several vehicles are lined up, as fleeing motorists are denied entry and the terrified people are pleading to the soldiers to let them pass in order to escape the onslaught of zombies.

"PLEASE!"

"LET US THROUGH!"

"WE WANT TO LIVE!"

"SAVE US!"

"WE DON'T WANT TO GET EATEN ALIVE!"

"PROTECT US!"

"JUST LET US THROUGH, DAMN IT!"

"WE BEG YOU!"

The soldiers stood their ground and told the survivors that the orders are not to let anyone pass through until further notice, and as the soldiers and the people are locked in a standoff, one of the soldiers was contacted by a commanding officer via a radio, where he gives the DIRECT ORDER, which the soldier stared wide-eyed in shock at the instructions given to him.

"…and that is your order."

"Sir!"

"…"

"Are you serious?"

"Yes."

"We can't…!"

"Do as you're told. That is an order."

"…"

As the commanding officer gives the order, the soldier reluctantly whispered to the other soldiers about the directive, which the soldiers are shocked at what they were told about, and asked if this is what the commanding officer said.

The soldier who received the order hesitantly confirms it and said he has no choice but to do as told: shoot down fleeing people on sight due to the risks they pose.

The soldiers are shocked at what they just heard and could not believe what they just heard. This is tantamount to massacre and murder, and pointed out that the fleeing survivors are unarmed, but the soldier who passed the message said that the fleeing survivors may have been infected and this takes precedence, which the soldiers are conflicted.

"No way…"

"They can't be serious…"

"Is he insane?"

"Why would he…"

"Damn!"

"What now?"

"What should we do?"

"…"

As the number of fleeing people are piling up, they were pleading to the soldiers to let them through, stating that they are STILL ALIVE and not INFECTED, and they even showed their children who are equally terrified and crying, saying that they are not bitten or anything for the sort.

"PLEASE!"

"LET US THROUGH!"

"WE WANT TO LIVE!"

"SAVE US!"

"WE DON'T WANT TO GET EATEN ALIVE!"

"PROTECT US!"

"JUST LET US THROUGH, DAMN IT!"

"WE BEG YOU!"

However, one of the survivors saw the approaching horde, and they began to scream and panic, and pleaded to the soldiers to let them through, fearing for their lives and told them that they are not infected and wanted to live.

"PLEASE!"

"LET US THROUGH!"

"WE WANT TO LIVE!"

"SAVE US!"

"WE DON'T WANT TO GET EATEN ALIVE!"

"PROTECT US!"

"JUST LET US THROUGH, DAMN IT!"

"WE BEG YOU!"

The soldiers are totally conflicted on what to do, and are unsure whether to give in or stand their ground, but the officer who received the DIRECT ORDER, approached the other soldiers and told them what the commanding officer tasked them to do, and the other soldiers are now losing it as they stated that they can't just shoot people who are not infected.

But the soldier who received the order said that this is what the commanding officer instructed them to do, and thus they must uphold it to protect the greater good.

As the people are screaming as the zombies are approaching, the soldiers finally succumb to pressure and began to shoot down the surviving people, riddling them with bullets, shooting every man, woman and child in sight.

"AAAIIIIEE!"

"GGGGYYYAAAHHH!"

"AAARRRGGGHHH!"

"KKKKYYYYAAAHHHH!"

"AAAIIIIEE!"

"GGGGYYYAAAHHH!"

"AAARRRGGGHHH!"

"KKKKYYYYAAAHHHH!"

Hope you liked this chapter, as Naegi and the gang takes the spotlight again, in which he, Komaru and a remaining few are still on the road as they narrowly escaped a roadblock of zombies, thanks to Naegi and Akamatsu's sacrifice…and once more Naegi and Akamatsu got separated from the other survivors and must now find a way to escape and catch up with Ikusaba and the rest…

More tension filled the remainder of this chapter…with BLOODY RESULTS…
