Many thanks to those who read and reviewed this fic. I really appreciated it and this gave me inspiration to work on the next chapter and here, the night time arc continue as we shift to another group of survivors as they are having their own struggle in dealing with the pandemic…

This chapter would take a break from the previous ones as we get a bit serious here…

Well then, read on and enjoy!

Ch. 38: Fandēshon kansō

Elsewhere, the scene shows that it is morning, and the scene shifts at the abandoned building where Kyosuke Munakata and his group are taking residence, as they fortified the defenses to make sure that the undead won't force their way in and so far he managed to save a number of people and slowly turned them into brave soldiers as they managed to procure weapons to defend themselves and to see if there are those who are in need of help.

Munakata is currently overseeing the situation and so far things are pretty calm, yet the scene shifts at the 25th floor where Munakata watched through the window and saw the undead roaming the streets yet they do not seem to take notice of this building and they just passed by like it was nothing.

Munakata is disturbed after getting information from Kimura about how this pandemic started and could not believe that Enoshima is the root cause of this and how she managed to cause such a catastrophic chain of events that spread out to the rest of the world.

Sakakura came and noticed his friend looking grim and asked him if he is bothered by what he discovered from Kimura, which Munakata admitted, and said that he now wished to kill Enoshima for causing all of this to happen.

"After hearing this from Kimura…I now have an utmost hatred towards her…"

"Munakata…"

"If I see her…"

"Easy. We'll get there soon."

"…"

"Right now we have other things to worry about."

"…"

"Munakata…"

Yukizome came and overheard the conversation and hearing the tone of Munakata's words, she urged him to calm down and tells him that right now they have to focus on those who can be saved and where to go next as she tells him that as more zombies are showing up the building they are in might not hold well and may result in the zombies attempting to force their way in.

Sakakura agreed with her and suggested that they try contacting the military and let them know of the fact that there are survivors here and send help, which Yukizome agreed as she feels that this could be for the best.

"For now we should focus on finding survivors who might need help."

"Sakakura-kun's right."

"Let's forget Enoshima for now, Munakata."

"She's the least of our problems."

"We got to ensure that this building's defenses are strengthened."

"And to stock up on rations."

"That's all we can do now, Munakata"

"That's right."

Munakata thought carefully about what his two friends suggested and began to consider their advices and said that he would carefully think about what they said and will tell them his decision later in the day, and for now he tells them to oversee the operations, which the two nodded in agreement.

Elsewhere within the building, the scene shows that Kimura is at a makeshift laboratory as she managed to procure a blood sample from one of the zombies and is assisting a rescued scientist and are now working together to figure out a way to make a vaccine to counteract the assumed virus that would painfully turn a bitten victim into a zombie.

So far the two ran some tests and Kimura provided the ingredients and made a few attempts to see if this virus would be neutralized, but right now there was little success, and the scientist lamenting that if someone really made this virus and cause this devastation, that person is a really sick person, which Kimura agree, as both were aware that Enoshima is the root cause of all this.

"I can't believe that a teenage model would do something like this."

"Me too. I never thought she had such a sick mind."

"It's a waste. She could have contributed to society…"

"…"

"And to think she would cause such a catastrophe…"

"I feel the same as you."

"We must exert efforts in creating an antivirus, Ms. Kimura…"

"I know."

Outside, Ando is watching the two, and she expressed disdain that Kimura is here and wished that the zombies would have killed her, but Izayoi came and told her not to waste time with Kimura and should focus on how to stay alive, as ditching Munakata at this point would be a bad idea and urged her to put up with Kimura for now.

Ando stared wide-eyed at hearing this and said she couldn't possibly do that as she hate Kimura, but is told to ignore her for now as they have no other recourse and staying alive is their priority for now.

"Eh?"

"Yes, Ruruka. We'll have to put up with this for now."

"But…"

"Trust me. We need to stay alive."

"Yoi-chan…"

"Trust me on this."

"…"

"…"

Ando twitched her eyes as she couldn't believe what she is hearing and this made her feel doubtful and asked Izayoi why is he seemingly siding with Kimura, but he clarified that Munakata appointed Kimura in studying the assumed virus and is tasked to assist the scientist in discovering a way to counteract it, and given their current predicament, he urged Ando to put up with Kimura for the time being.

Ando stared in disbelief as she is forced to mentally admit that Izayoi has a point and sighed, as she reluctantly said that she will follow his advice and behave herself, which he hugged her and said that for now they will tow the line but once they find an opening they will ditch Munakata and find a place where they can do as they please without anyone telling them what to do.

"Trust me. This is the best option we could do for now."

"…"

"And once we find an opening we can ditch this place."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Oh…fine."

"Good."

"…"

Elsewhere within the building, Bandai and Gozu are doing their assigned tasks, with Bandai stocking on food while Gozu is strengthening the security of the entry and exit points of the building to monitor who comes in and out, as well as to see if a stray zombie tries to force its way in.

The two men got along well and both are still grieving the loss of their colleagues a day ago when the outbreak occurred, and how they were able to meet up with Munakata and the others, and now the two men are now doing what Munakata assigned them to do and wondered if and when help would arrive as the way they are seeing, the police and the military appeared to be at loss as chaos is still reigning the streets along with other people panicking.

"Looks like we are stuck here."

"Really?"

"Yes. The police or the military haven't made a move yet."

"That's bad news."

"Indeed."

"Guess we'll have to rely on each other then."

"At least we can stay alive."

"Yeah."

By then one of the survivors taken in by Munakata came and told Gozu that he saw a group of people is moving close by and said that he got a glimpse of the persons, who appeared to be policemen and that they appeared to be disorganized as they are moving in a disorganized way as they are trying to hide themselves from the zombies.

Gozu asked him if he is sure, which the survivor said that it is based on what he saw a while ago.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes!"

"And they are still alive?"

"Yes, I saw them!"

"Do you know where they are?"

"I'll take you to a place where you can see them."

"Lead the way."

"Okay."

The survivor led Gozu to the 3rd floor and using a binoculars, he saw that the group of people outside appeared to be office clerks and are only armed with pistols, while another group of persons are seen, who appeared to be soldiers, and they too appeared to be disorganized.

Gozu wondered if they can be saved and using a radio, he contacted Munakata and informed him of what is happening, and after seeing the scene outside, he tells Gozu that he is going to try rescue those people and will take Sakakura and Izayoi with him, and said that Izayoi and Sakakura will keep the zombies occupied while Gozu will reach out to the persons needing help.

"That's my instruction, Gozu."

"Is that all?"

"Yes."

"Anything else?"

"None for now."

"Then I'm going out."

"Make sure you don't get bitten."

"Okay."

A minute later, Ando is a bit worried that Izayoi is going out there and attempted to dissuade him, but he assured to her that he will be back as he is fully armed while Sakakura and Gozu are with him and promised that he will be back safe and sound.

Ando wasn't fully convinced yet Izayoi kissed her and urged her to have faith in him.

"Got to go…"

"But, Yoi-chan…"

"Don't worry. Me and Sakakura are fully armed."

"But…"

"Have faith in me."

"…okay…"

"Good."

"Yoi-chan…"

Izayoi smiled as he joined Gozu and Sakakura as the trio leave the building and now they began their strategic attack to keep the zombies at bay. Izayoi would use bladed projectile and aim for the head whilst Sakakura uses a silencer-type machine gun to shoot other zombies on the head which would give Gozu room to reach out to the beleaguered people as they are assembled against a wall.

As Gozu approached them, he learned that five of them were clerks at the police station just three blocks away, and they were the only survivors as they and a few others initially barricaded themselves inside the police station while waiting for orders from their superior officer, who ordered them to wait at the station and not leave until he gives a direct command.

Then Gozu approached eight soldiers who were stationed at a bridge just give blocks away, and there they told Gozu that their commanding officer ordered them to shoot down the fleeing survivors who were mostly mother and toddlers, regardless of whether they were infected or not, and the eight soldiers questioned the commanding officer why the need to shoot them as the women are unarmed and are only carrying their children aged 12 months and below.

However, the other soldiers blindly followed the commanding officer's command and shoots the wailing mothers and their babies to death, and the eight soldiers who refused to carry the orders were horrified at what their fellow soldiers did.

The eight soldiers then revealed to Gozu that when the zombies appeared the commanding officer ordered the soldiers to stand their ground and shoot down the zombies no matter what, and the eight soldiers were more horrified as the other soldiers blindly stood their ground and kept on shooting yet the zombies keep on coming, and the massacre commences, as the foolish soldiers screamed as they were eaten alive.

The eight soldiers realized that they are outnumbered and as the commanding officer ordered them to stay and fight, they abandoned their posts as they are unwilling to follow their commanding officer's command, seeing that he is crazy for ordering them to shoot innocent people despite them not being infected.

Gozu then led the 13 survivors toward the building as Izayoi and Sakakura managed to clear the area as there are no zombies in sight, and once secured, Gozu told Munakata what he learned from the surviving police clerks and soldiers, which Munakata suspect that something is amiss here as why would the commanding officer would give such an order.

"Very strange indeed."

"I can't believe this is happening…"

"Then these people are lost…and I will lead them to a correct path."

"You mean…?"

"I'll teach them on what to do…and how to handle pressures like this…"

"Munakata…"

"At least they will maintain their sanities…"

"…"

Munakata then told Gozu that he will speak to the 13 survivors and he will give them proper training so that they won't buck under pressure and that he would give them the mental resolve to protect and save people as well as to make them soldiers of the foundation he is putting up after seeing that the police and military are in such a mess.

Gozu then asked what about this commanding officer, guessing that he might attempt to persuade the 13 survivors to follow his command, but Munakata said he will see to it that the commanding officer would be exposed for his transgressions.

"I will deal with him."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"How?"

"I'll figure out a way."

"I see."

"For now we will keep on fighting and defending."

"Right."

To Be Continued...
