What do the Credits of overlord and the credits of RWBY in common? They don't have me named as their owner.
Hey so about uploads, I am going to attempt to upload every first day of the month. I am looking for a beta reader to help me if you are interested please PM me
Update: Thanks to White 1489 for pointing out how messy this chapter was first time around. Please guys let me know where I can improve, I will not update every time I find a small problem like a missed capital letter in one sentence. But if it really impairs readability, I will fix it as soon as I can and upload it. Smaller touch-ups will be posted alongside new chapters so that you guys won't get 10 updates and no chapters.
Chapter2 Wilting petals growing thorns.
Their clash was terrifying for both Fighters, every strike bathed the throne room in sparks..Lance had seen his enchanted blade turn lesser weapons into scrap metal. Yet, this girl's war scythe was able to take his sword head-on. The weapon looked complex, Lance was not extremely knowledgeable with mechanics, but he knew a killing machine when he saw one.
Ruby's eyes widened in shock when she hit him in the chest with a kick. She felt the hard, smooth metal of his armor. It reminded her of the Atlassian paladin in terms of how strong it was. She would be able to break it, but it would take something powerful. What was even scarier was that he had no aura. Normally, facing an opponent with no aura would make things easy, but in this case, it terrified her to no end During her beacon days and in the time after the fall, Ruby had trained with. And faced some of the strongest fighters Remnant had to offer. The sheer physical strength of the young overlord had put him on equal footing with most of their aura-enhanced strength.
She could feel the force of his strikes vibrate painfully into her bones every time their weapons clashed. She felt a spike of panic when she noticed that these clashes were actually damaging her aura. Nothing major but the fact that it was taking any damage at all just by hitting her scythe against her opponent's sword was enough to make her change strategies.
Ruby ducked away from the next hit. She felt the blade cleave the air above her head. Changing, Crescent Rose to its sniper form while cursing under her breath. She was low on ammo after the battle of Atlas and the fight in the bridge world. 5 she had 5 shots left. And snipers weren't exactly made for use in close-quarter combat like this, on the other hand. If she managed to land the shot, it would probably take the fight out of her opponent. If it didn't outright kill him due to his lack of aura.
The overlord had seen that she was trying something. His right hand had started to glow a bright blue and lined up with Ruby's face. Both fighters let out a loud yell as Ruby squeezed her shaking weapons trigger, and lance released the lightning whip.
The burst of magical electricity shot through Ruby's body; it felt like her skin was being boiled. She could smell her clothes being scorched, but it didn't just hurt her body, it felt like her very soul was being torched. She was violently thrown back into the wall. Falling to the cold stone ground. Her aura broke, and her nose was bleeding.
While the bullet did not outright kill Lance, it had done a number on his magical armor. He felt like he was punched in the chest by his fathers' yeti. He fell back, coughing up blood. Around the two champions, the Labyrinth shattered, causing them to fall into the void.
Lance found himself on a warm, comfortable bed. He was breathing heavily. Looking around confused, he had never been in this room before. So, why was it so familiar?
Lance felt two soft arms wrap around him. The smell of pine trees and roses somehow calmed him down. Lance looked next to him. He saw the concerned face of an older version of the girl he had been fighting. Then, something strange happened. She seemed to ripple and change. One moment she was the silver-eyed warrior. Then she changed to a white-haired woman with piercing blue eyes and a scar. Then to a Violet eyed woman with a mane of wild Blonde hair. Lastly, a raven-haired woman with cat ears whose amber eyes seemed to glow in the dark. All looking at him with the same level of love and concern. Somehow he knew their names. Ruby, Weiss, Yang, and Blake. He heard all of their voices.
" It's okay sweetheart, it was just a nightmare, I'm right here."
Lance pulled them closer on instinct. Letting their sweet nothing fill his mind.
Eventually, they left the bedroom and entered a modest but comfortable living room.
"Go freshen up sweetie, I will get some breakfast going." Yang had said.
Lance felt that a bath would indeed help him get his mind off the strange dream. Where he had fought his sister-in-law. He went on towards the bathroom and let the warm water run over his body. Soothing it's aching. Why was he sour? 'Lance looked at his scars, then at the little cabinet, where Yang kept the oils and other ointments that kept her mechanical arm from irritating her stump. Lance felt a sharp sting of failure, if only he had kept his overlord powers when he turned. He could have given her a new arm. Not only that, but he could have saved summer from her grim state. Maybe even find a way to return Penny and Pyrrha to the living realm, but, it was too late for maybes.
Lance went back to the kitchen, where Weiss was finishing plating a tower of pancakes.
"I really need to thank Ruby for teaching you how to cook. I am a walking fire hazard in the kitchen."
Weiss laughed her warm and calming laugh. That always made him feel so safe.
They sat down at the table and Weiss spoke up.
"Winter says the last of the grim are retreating from human territories. Soon we will be out of a job as a huntsman."
Lance shrugged as he savored the sweet taste of his wife's cooking. He looked up. Images of them. Fighting back the grim hordes during the last years of the war against Salem ran through his mind
.
"It's been 10 years now, hasn't it?"
He looked into Blake's amber eyes. She smiled warmly at him.
" 10 amazing years of you and me. Listen, I want to wait out the all-clear sign from Winter and Glynda But, then, I really would like to move to Menagerie. Weiss' new machines could turn the desert into a livable meadow in half a year. There are even talks about turning it into an actual kingdom."
Lance chuckled. " Would Ghyra and Kali still be leading it? Should I refer to you as princess from now on?"
Blake came to sit in his lab, whispering in his ear.
"why would I want to be called a princess? I already have a king who treats me like a queen."
She gave him a kiss.
When they broke apart, Ruby sat in his lab. Looking at him with a smile that could light a stage.
The sound of running feet came from the hallway. The kitchen door flew open, and a small, silver-eyed girl ran up to them. Hugging them.
"Good morning, Lilly." Ruby said as she stood up and scooped up the 10-year-old.
" Sweetie, why are you crying? What's wrong?"
they never got an answer. The walls of the building were ripped apart. As the armored form of his sister stood there. Her minions yelled and called him a traitor. Without his weapon, Lance threw his hands up. Small bursts of fire and lightning blasted some minions away. It was not enough, they kept coming. Soon he heard his daughters cry for help. His wife screamed in pain. He needed power, great power.
The power he had given up. Right? He had chosen light all those years ago….. hadn't he? Lance couldn't remember it. He knew he had fought his wife….No, his sister-in-law…...or was she his best friend?…..what was happening?
A cold voice cut into his brain like an icy knife. "First of your line to make a good choice, Boy? What will it bring you? Loved once you can't protect? The glory of a dead civilization? Your sister's hatred?"
he felt a wave of burning anger somewhere deep inside. He saw Titania rise her hand. His heart nearly stopped, recognizing the evil presence spell. Titania was taking away his wife's mind. Sniff out his daughter's soul. She was hurting them. She was stealing them. Not only that, but she was touching something that was his. A wave of power blazed inside and washed over his body. His armor and blade appeared on his person. Their weight did not hinder him. It actually made him feel stronger. Like a powerful armored behemoth. The spell in his sister's hand sizzled out. Now, instead of only Ruby sitting on the floor, it was all the girls he had seen in his vision. their eyes looking at Lance, begging him. But for what? To stop? Or for protection? The Overlord roared in anger. The minions turned on the imposter that looked like his sister. With a burst of speed, she didn't expect the wicked blade had found her heart.
"I am the Overlord. I will take everything I want because."
He pulled his blade out. Seeing the woman, who had looked like his sister moments before. Now, look like a chalk-white-skinned, red-eyed witch that looked at him shocked. He finished his sentence with a wicked grin.
" True evil always finds a way."
Ruby Had woken up in a giant, fluffy bed that seemed able to comfortably fit 7 people. She had soon found out that she had indeed not slept alone, but with whom? She felt something made of metal around her finger. Looking down, she saw a golden ring with a dragon head holding a large red stone in its mouth. She heard a knock on the door, feeling like she should let the other person in, she just said.
" Come in."
as the door opened, she saw Penny. Something was conflicting in her head. It felt like she was supposed to be there, but, but she couldn't be there Right?
The green-eyed ginger smiled brightly, wearing an elegant Green dress and a silver diadem with sparkling emeralds.
"Salutations, mistress Lord Tai and Lady summer will be here soon."
Ruby felt like she was on autopilot.
"Penny, I told you that you shouldn't call me by my title when we are alone. I need someone to be a friend, not just a servant."
Penny seemed to relax. Bringing a smile to Ruby's face.
"Sorry Ruby It's hard, going from the strict coding of being a robot to a fully independent brain. it's very easy to fall back into the flow of the status quo."
Ruby felt her body wanting to move. She knew that she could move on her own but, she decided to roll with it. Resisting just a little by picking less flashy clothing, a simple yet elegant form-fitting red dress. From the ridiculous selection of outfits she apparently owned.
Penny and Ruby walked down the long palace corridors. Laughing at jokes and reminiscing on old times.
"So I heard JNPR is moving to the city, any special reason?"
Ruby found that the answer came out of her mouth as she had studied it.
"Ozpin and Salem are in hiding. All their allies are either dead crippled or in chains but, they will come back. They will try to take us down. We want our best warriors close when the time comes." she smiled. " Besides, I heard Nora is pregnant. I want to see my nephews and nieces grow up safe and comfortable in the capital."
The autopilot felt like bliss at this point. Ruby gladly took the back seat as she raveled in the stories, and fondly recalled memories of family and friends. Some of whom she could swear should be dead.
They walked through a part of the palace that was open to the public. She basked in cheers and praise. The people looked at her like she was a goddess, Ruby felt like she was a goddess. She felt a dark kind of rush. She could break someone's neck on a whim and get away with it. It was intoxicating. Was this what it meant to be drunk on power?
They passed the library, Ruby saw Blake followed by a group of Faunus wearing the white fang mark on the shoulder. Blake's personal guard, led by Ilia. Ruby waved, knowing her friend was busy. Later she looked out of a window and saw Yang and aunt raven walking in the garden, she could hear them laugh and saw them hug. Soon Penny and Ruby found themselves walking out into a large rooftop garden. Hearing a familiar laugh, she looked at the small fountain.
" Really? Winter did that at a meeting?"
a male voice Ruby recognized as Whitley Schnee answered. " Yes, she did. Held him from a window by his shirt and told him. If I ever hear you call Lady belladonna a street cat ever again, I will neuter you like one."
Weiss chuckled before she noticed them.
" Ruby, good to see you are awake. Beloved is waiting for you."
she walked up to Ruby and kissed her on the mouth. She was married to Weiss…. And Blake and…. Lance. Not to Yang but, Yang was also married to the three. She also noticed she was returning Weiss' kiss. Something a part of her had thought about during the beacon days, but never acted on.
As they parted, Ruby turned to Penny, who was blushing slightly. As she threw a shy glance at Whitley.
"Thanks, Penny, you can go on with your plans now."
the former android beamed as Whitley took her by the arm and led her down the staircase.
"I don't know if they end up growing old together But, I think they are good for each other as far as taking their first steps in romance goes. Little Whitley is finally free from our father's influence. Leading our family's company and being on good terms with Mom and Winter. I couldn't be prouder of him."
Weiss looked at Ruby, the pain and stress that had haunted the former heiress's glacier blue eyes were long gone.
"Beloved is waiting up ahead. We are still having a movie night with the girls, right?"
Ruby nodded. Why did something so mundane fill her with so much joy? Speaking of joy, her steady walking turned into a full-out run when she saw her husband waiting under a tree. He gave her one of his smiles, something that always made her heart race. She leaped into his arms and he twirled her around, kissing her tenderly. Then led her to a table where her dad and mom were waiting. They sat down and drank tea. The day grew old, Ruby didn't remember going inside, but she was laughing.
Then she felt something tugging on her skirt. She looked down and saw a little figure wearing a black cloak. The Black hood was pulled down. Showing two eyes that were a bit off, the eye whites were pools of inky black, but the Irises were like hers a shining silver. Her silky black hair was in pigtails. As Ruby looked at, her memories started to bloom. Of holding a bundle wrapped in a blanket, of games of tag baking cookies, Lullabies, and bedtime stories. Memories of her little girl, of her Lilly.
"Mommy, are you happy?"
she felt the bliss of the autopilot fading away, and she was back in the driver's seat.
"I...Of course, I am, Little petal."
her attention was suddenly taken up by 3 others at the table. Penny was bleeding from the chest her mom was twitching, grim tar leaking from her eyes and mouth. Phyra was starting to look like she was on fire. She heard a door open and saw Ozpin and Oscar holding out their hands it was painfully bright behind them, but she could see the burning ruins of Vale she could hear Salem's laugh. A cold chill ran through her body, if she went back there then all of this would be lost, At that moment everything around her was shattered in red rose petals, leaving only tombstones. Her family, her castle, her friends.
Lily disappeared with a final desperate cry.
" MOMMYYYYY!"
tears fell down her eyes, "N..No NO NONONONO GIVE THEM BACK, GIVE HER BACK!"
she turned around. She could see the hallways of the castle still there. Lance was standing on the other side. She started running at first. Then used her petal rush.
When she could see again, she was sitting on her knees in a pool of water. Lance stood in front of her, his helmet gone. He looked at her, in his eyes she could see the same conflict that she felt. Sword in hand, both of their eyes leaking tears, he pointed his sword forwards, it was shaking in his hand.
. "I...I just can't."
she looked up and shook her head,
"I...I want to….. It was so B.. Beautiful Please...I….I..I want to go back. "
a blue glow came from the pool as a Large blue orb rose from the water. Lance placed a hand on it and torrents of blue lightning ran over his body.
"I can help you make the step. I know a spell that together with the tower hearth can we turn you, and I think I can do it in a way that makes sure you stay well you. Just a bit darker. But, there will be changes. People you know might abandon you. And there will be no turning back."
she looked at him again. "I saw people I lost. Can you really help me get them back?"
he nodded. " I can."
She slowly stood up.
"My friends and family. If I can convince them to join us, will you make sure they are safe?"
he looked at her with a determined expression. "If doing so does not hinder me in my quest. I swear, you and yours will want for nothing."
her hand hovered just above his. "W...will you love me?"
they stood like that for a moment. Images of the lives they had just seen flashing around in the surrounding waters.
"I think I can. Just be patient with me, okay."
she looked around her, she heard a splash and next to her stood a person who looked like how she did back when she first arrived at beacon academy. She sniffed as she looked at her young self.
"I...I guess I'm not going to be the hero anymore. I'm sorry. But I can't go further anymore."
Her past self gave her a sad smile. "Just promise me you have a Happily ever after, okay?"
Ruby nodded at the apparition and looked back at lance. Ruby took the following splash as the end of her old self. Taking Lance's hand. She allowed the dark lightning to spread through her arms, then over her body. At first, it hurt, then she relaxed her body and the pain stopped. After the spell was over, Ruby noticed that she didn't feel very different. However, the man in front of her seemed so much more than he did a moment ago. Ruby threw her arms around him.
" Master ….. Thank you."
He returned the embrace, the smell of sweat and grime leaving a hint of pine and roses,
"If we are going to be together, please call me something different."
She hung back and gave him a playful thinking look. The spell and the reassurance of her master gave her the confidence to act a bit coy,
"Okay then If that is what makes you Happy My Darling. Then I will."
the room lit up, showing a large staircase on the other side of the room. Both felt a strange weight lift from their Body. They realized that it was done. They were out of the Labyrinth. Ruby realized that she had failed. The last hope of light had failed. She now belonged to the darkness at the side of her darling. That was the moment that she realized she had indeed changed due to the spell. Instead of shame and regret, she felt excitement. She let Lance lead her up the stairs.
They found themselves in a large cavern. A Big stone chair stood in the middle of a foundation. Clearly, this was meant to be the start of a throne room. Next to the throne stood the Gray, impish creature she had seen at lance's father's side. Now Ruby was closer, she was able to take a good look at him. He was dressed in old yet kind of nice Black and red robes. On a stick on his back was a glowing yellow rock. Cheering from around the room where Brown impish creatures. Outside the color, the main difference was the eyes. The brown beings looked. Well, kind of dumb. They bounced up and down with goofy grins and unfocused gazes. While the gray one had a focused intelligence gleam to them. Ruby now started to make out the words they were yelling in their high scratchy voices,
things like "The master approaches.-Hail.-Welcome true Masta."
the gray being approached them smiling.
"You have proven yourself worthy. You are our true Overlord." he bowed deeply. "It's quite an occasion, sire. You are the 4th overlord in your bloodline, that's quite rare. Oh, I remember the days of your grandfather. The view of the tower. The exciting quest to destroy the 8 heroes. The screams of the prisoners. Ahhhh, the bad old days."
the creature now looked at Ruby. "oh, Master. You are indeed a prodigy, a Mistress on your very first day."
Ruby raised her eyebrow and looked at Lance,
"Mistress is a title the Overlords lovers have. It basically makes your orders absolute to all my servants. As long as they do not contradict my own."
Ruby nodded and looked at the gray being and said. "I'm Ruby Rose nice to meet you."
Once again the creature made a deep bow.
"Greetings mistress Ruby. I am Gnarl Minion Master, and devoted servant of darkness. I look forward to serving you and master. if you need something, please do not hesitate."
she smiled, figuring that "Minion" was the species of the impish creatures.
"Happy to work with you, Gnarl. I can use some help with the whole being evil business." She looked at the crescent rose. Seeing that her baby had taken quite the beating. "Do we have a forge? My weapon could use some maintenance and an upgrade or tow."
Gnarl raised his hands. "My Lady pleas. It's not becoming of a mistress to fight."
Lance did a step back. He saw Ruby tense up and give Gnarl a sweet smile. He glanced sideways towards a graying minion with a cane and jester's head and missed an eye. This was Quaver the minion jester. One of the oldest and smartest of the minions. Both of them silently agreed that Gnarl, had just made a major mistake, by pissing off the young mistress.
"Oh, you are right, but I'm a bit hungry. Is there a kitchen nearby?"
Gnarl smiled and pointed Ruby towards a door in the back of the room. Ruby disappeared in a burst of rose petals When she returned, she held a wooden spoon, which she used to knock Gnarl across the room. She then put her boot on gnarls back.
"Listen here Gnarl. I do not know how the other mistresses you met were, but I am a warrior. I was trained in combat since childhood, I know the kind of monsters we are facing. I will respect your advice. But I will NOT be put in this tower. Like some pampered princess, while my Darling is out there fighting. Am I making myself clear?"
Gnarl raised his head. "C...Crystal clear my Lady."
Ruby smirked. Looked around, then shook her head. "Well, this won't do. Look at this place. This is not a throne room. This is a cave with a bigger-than-average chair. We need style. We require riches. This should be a place you can look down on heroes that come into the room. Where you can tell them you were expecting them, while you hold their loved once Life in your hands. Or just stroke a big cat. Hmm, Blake, might like that. …..Also, that thing has like no back support. You will get such a strained back."
The by now recovered gnarl motioned to a minion in blacksmith gear.
"Quick Giblet, she makes some good points, write that down."
Ruby rubbed her chin.
"We need someone who knows how to look high and mighty. Who is familiar with evil authority figures, and has a good head for organizing stuff….. A Weiss. We need a Weiss."
Lance looked at her. The smiling face of the white haired girl coming to his mind. Ruby gave him a sly grin,
"You didn't think I missed your use of the plural Lovers when you explained the mistress position, did you? Well, don't worry, I'm fine with it actually, I think your spell back there awakened something in me. I like the thought of loving you and my team members that way. As long as you are fine with me not doing anything sexy to my sister. I mean if she is cool with doing you together I'm in but, not me and her just no"
Lance shrugged. Holding in his laughter. As he saw Ruby's blushing face, it was cute. "You are my mistress, not my slave. I am fine with you having boundaries."
Ruby yawned. Stretching her arms, the both of them now really feeling how tired they were. "Good to know the master, if you don't mind. I am Beat."
Gnarl came closer, his eyes shooting from her to the spoon still in her hand. " The private quarters are through the doors atop the stairs behind the throne, my lady. Do forgive us, they are not as elegant as they should be. It usually takes Overlord's a while before taking a mistress."
She nodded. "That's fine Gnarl I think I have spent the last 3 weeks napping wherever I could between fights. Sleeping on something even close to a bed sounds like heaven to me right now."
Ruby kisses Lance on the cheek.. "Would you mind giving me a tour, My lord?"
They took off towards the Privet quarters, and far away two ancient beings shivered as they could hear the Brother of darkness laugh in triumph.
