Chapter 24: The Sports Festival (Part 1)
March...
At the back of the school, all the students from the freshmen, sophomore and senior years are gathered before the football field all in their PE attire and seated on the bleachers according to their class.
In the middle of the field, Principal Bingram appeared and accompanying him is the Vice-Principal. "That's Vice-Principal McKenna. I heard she's a nice person and has the legendary-ranked awakened power that allows her to summon a Meteor Shower." Jeong told the class.
"Wow...she's powerful in terms of power and authority." said Anais.
Now on the field. "Hello students of Advanced WNA High, are you ready to get active?" Principal Bingram asked as all cheered their loudest. "Besides your studies and shinobi training, the school also dedicates fun-filled activities and events such as this. Every year, sports festivals are a way to encourage fitness and an active, healthy lifestyle as a shinobi. 8 events and prizes to be won for the students and their respective classes!"
All cheered louder as Vice-Principal McKenna took over. "In addition, this event also emphasize teamwork, camaraderie and sportsmanship. We wish you all the best in the sports and in the honour of the shinobi, GO NINJALA!"
All cheered their loudest as Coach Spruce appeared on the field via smokebomb. "Yo ninja students! Let's get the events started! But first, rules. No cheating, no sabotage and no negative jeering and stuff. Now rewards will be interesting. Students that finished first will earn 10 points for the class. Second, 7 points and third. 5 points. The rest of the positions get 3 points. The class that has the most points in their respective school years earns 10000 credits for every student in the winning class!"
This has hyped the freshmen the most as in Class 1-B, "We've got to win this guys! So that we can beat Class 1-A and prove that we're better than them and we deserve to stay on top and they rot on the bottom!" Draco told the class.
"Bah! Do we even care? You do know that every class is gonna give it their best shot so expect our class to win some and lose some." A male student with fair-skin and purple hair told him.
"Whatever Orion." Draco replied as he sat down and announcements are made for those participating to report to the starting line on the running track for the first event.
Event 1: 100m Dash
The freshmen are first to go as Yamikage representing Class 1-A is ready. A ninja guard pointed a gun in the air. "Ready...GO!"
A blank shot was fired and the freshmen began the sprint and easily, Yamikage secured first place. The whole class cheered for him when, "He cheated!" All looked to their left to see Draco making a false and stupid claim. "Yeah you heard me! He cheated! He can't run this fast! I bet he took steroids before the match!"
"Yeah...I wonder, tell me where my friend bough the 'steroids'?" Kappei asked him.
"Um...uh...the black market!" Draco answered and all facepalmed. "Masai. Tie him up and gag his mouth." Ryotarou ordered.
"Okay boss." A tall, buff and muscular dark-skinned male student with short, black hair and wears sunglasses grabbed Draco and did the job. "Heh. Serves him right!" Hank whispered to Harry as he snickered in agreement. As for second and third place, it goes to Class 1-B and Class 1-D.
Now it's the girls' turn as Vega got ready, blank gunshot and they dashed to the finish line. Vega ended in second place as the class applauded her effort. "HA! She lost to our class!" Draco called out as, "Hey didn't his mouth get taped?" Alec asked.
"I got this." Kanisuke knocked him out cold and he remain seated on the bleacher dazed out.
"Much better." Cruz told Archie. "Indeed." He replied back.
The male sophomores went next and a male student from Class 2-K finished first followed by one from Class 2-C and another from Class 2-F.
The female sophomores then took their turn from first to third place, the 3 girls that took the podium represent Classes 2-E, 2-H and 2-D.
The seniors are the last and for the males, first place goes to Class 3-B followed by 3-C for second place and 3-F for third place.
For the female seniors, first place goes to Class 3-K also followed by Class 3-J and Class 3-G.
Even 2: 200m Dash
Just like just now, same procedure and Yamikage delivered the same results. "Oh yeah! We got first place in the first 2 events for the boys' side!" Mikelus cheered and hi-5 Kolton. For second and third place, they go to Class 1-H followed by Class 1-K.
For the girl's side, Chantelle ended up being in second place just like Vega. Still, it was a good effort as first place goes to Class 1-C and third place goes to Class 1-E.
The male sophomores then raced next and one from Class 2-A took first place followed by another from Class 2-I and another from Class 2-C
The female sophomores raced next and first place goes to Class 2-D followed by Class 2-C and Class 2-F.
The male seniors then raced in and Class 3-G won first place followed by Class 3-A and Class 3-H.
The female seniors took their turn and there, Class 3-E won first place followed by Class 3-A getting second place again and Class 3-D.
Event 3: Hurdles
Before the event, 2 ninja guards set up the track hurdles using their gravity manipulation powers.
Once ready, Shane went to the starting line and when the gun fired a blank shot, the running and jumping begins! He jumped pretty well but halfway in the race, "KSH!"
"Oh no! He miscalculated on the jump!" Jeong discovered as Shane fell and stumbled onto the hurdles. Some ninja medics nearby took action and got him on a stretcher and took him away to be treated.
"Ha! Ha! Ha! What a shame for him to fall! Oh how the mighty have fallen!" Draco mocked and for unknown reasons, he's freed from being tied up. At that moment, an ice crystal hit him and froze him whole.
"That should shut him up for good." said Chantelle as Midori hi-5 her.
"How long do you think he'll stay like this?" Emma asked.
"Until lunch break. I'll get Kappei and Avitus to melt the ice when it's time." Chantelle answered and it's worth it for Ryotarou overheard them and nodded to himself. Back at the hurdles, Class 1-B won followed by Class 1-D and Class 1-F.
Now it's the girls' turn for the freshmen year and Nichelle was able to get 3rd place. The winner on the other hand is Class 1-G and second place goes to Class 1-C.
The male sophomores then lined up and began running and jumping. Soon enough, Class 2-A won it followed by Class 2-J and Class 2-E.
The female sophomores went next and a few minutes later, results are out with Class 2-K taking first followed by Class 2-F and Class 2-D.
The male seniors now made their move and soon enough, Class 3-G won it followed by Class 3-E and Class 3-C.
The female seniors are the last to do their hurdles and in first place, Class 3-J followed by Class 3-A and Class 3-H.
Event 4: Tug-of-War
It appears that all the classes will be battling out against each other depending which team will be assigned to battle another team by the coachs and ninja guards. Everyone watched as classes pull left and right for the win. For Class 1-A, "Remember your training!" Bull rallied his peers as they pulled with all their might. "Don't give an inch!" A student of Class 1-G called out as they pulled back.
"Hold the line!" Bull ordered as he and his peers endured and struggled. Their opponents pulled as hard as they can but no budging took effect. "NOW!" Bull called out and they pulled a hard one causing their opponents to fall and cross the line thus losing the match.
"Aw yeah! We rock!" Bull cheered as the 8 boys went crazy again by doing silly dances that made the girls facepalm. They were able to win a few more but eventually, they lost to a team of seniors from Class 3-A and they won the entire event.
After that, "Attention students, you have an hour of rest and you can have your lunch also. Take care, rest well and stay hydrated." Coach Spruce announced and the students can finally grab a bite.
Lunch break hour...
"So...what are you guys planning to have for lunch?" Declan asked.
"Beats me." Jeong replied.
"Not necessary." All looked to see Sensei Tatsu bring in lunch bentos for the whole class. "Whoa sensei! For us?" Kappei asked.
"I can see the effort all of you put in. Marvellous." He then handed each student a lunch bento and he even has one for himself. Inside the bento is some white rice, 2 pieces of honey roasted chicken fillet, some leafy vegetables, deep fried sliced potatoes and BBQ sauce.
"Nice! I could use a good meal!" said Bull as everyone ate lunch together with their teacher. "Sensei, has your class ever won some of the events back in your days?" Emma asked him.
"Well...in our first year, we never won any of them. And 3 of my classmates were this close to be in the podium. All of us even I, we were discouraged, disheartened and depressed. It's like our class morale was instantly no more. Our sensei however, gathered us and taught us about the importance of sportsmanship and said these words, "A true ninja does not dwell in failure and instead, strives to surpass the limits for the reward."
"Cool." said Kolton.
"This left us motivated and for the remaining 2 years, we were able to win some events and even achieved first place in our final year thus surpassing our limits." Sensei Tatsu concluded his story.
"That's so dope teach!" Davis described as he drank some water and through their break, the whole class and Sensei Tatsu spent the rest of their lunch bonding together with jokes and chats until it's time for the remaining 4 events to commence.
It looks like they won some, they lost some. No big deal because as long as the fun is there and everyone does their best, then it's all that matters.
For class rankings, the letter, 'I' is omitted to prevent confusion in the entire reading of the story.
Next chapter will be the remaining 4 events. Oh man, that Ninjala tournament is so close...I could actually boost myself with coke and fries and write it all early too! YAHAHAHAHA!
