Surviving Formorrow
Killer Headache
Part 1
Author Notes: Been awhile folks! Last chappy well, tensions flared but you know-I don't regret it. My poor lopmon. Even outside the game, my baby bunny does not deserve to suffer. So i'm going to make Takuma suffer instead lol. I do not own Digimon.
3rd P.O.V
The first time he heard a voice in his head of course it was his own. Everyone has their own mental conversation at some point right? Especially when they're alone, unsure what to do with themselves because they're so bored or worried about something.
Or there was something they needed to remember. Even just thinking back on something that they did wrong, mentally berating themselves for making poor choices. Although it wasn't good to dwell on the more negative aspects on these little inside monologues, it was harmless...
Something that came naturally to any person at any age at even the most random moments. Takuma was always the type to never really grow out of it. He was constantly thinking to himself. His thoughts more akin to a poet when something catches his eye. His mind more analytical when he's stuck on a problem.
He spoke and interacted well enough with his classmates, and even made some friends while on a camping trip for school. So it's not like he necessarily needed to get lost in his head so often, but he did because it was natural. It allowed him to make better decisions, whether by himself or with others.
So why...when brought to another world, surrounded by monsters akin to a myth...that while thinking his head suddenly hurts? Why did it feel like every time he had to make a decision while the others around him argued or he was exploring a new area there'd be these ringing noises in his ear?
The sounds (or were they words?) never lasted very long, but what time they stayed, they hurt. It echoed throughout his entire body, like the vibrations of a drum, throbbing his already hurting head. Everytime he felt those sensations bouncing off him, he wanted to clutch his hair, rub the instant sores that appeared.
But he didn't. Instead he mustered a small smile, hiding away a wince. He rushed the conversation along, giving whatever answer that would end it. Whether it was right or wrong didn't matter after the first week.
Of course he listened to what they others said, and always made sure to say something he thought would be for the better of the group or something productive. He had agreed with Kaito that they had to find Miu, that he wouldn't be ok just leaving her alone out there where monsters could take her away.
Though he understood Shuji's concerns...Takuma had no intentions of hiding in a school waiting to either starve or get attacked. Time may've past, but both he and Agumon still could recall with clarity how it felt when the school was overrun with spider webs.
When all of their other companions were strung up, bound and unconscious. It didn't matter if they managed to drive them out, he still had nightmares over that. "That settles it, we're heading out first thing tomorrow." There it was again.
Takuma barely suppressed a wince when his head rang. However big, green eyes looked at him in concern. Agumon noticed his faint reaction. Thankfully he didn't say anything, instead he smiled alongside his human partner, rallying everyone's somewhat subdued spirits.
At the very least Kaito looked grateful for Takuma's intervention and support. "This is a bad idea." Even if it meant Shuji's disproval. "Regardless of the decision, I was going to go with Kaito...I'm not leaving someone out there to get attacked when I know there's something I can do." In the end...everyone agreed to go.
Why did it feel like his head was splitting...

"I'll look over here! Come on Agumon." Takuma ran off before anyone could say anything else. There was no need to delay things any further than it already needed to. They had already agreed to split up and look for clues on the missing girl.
It took everything in Takuma not to falter to his knees the moment he was out of view. "Takuma, what's wrong?" It was a miracle Agumon hadn't pestered him about it until now. And he fortunately waited until they were out of sight and hearing range to ask.
Man he loved his partner to bits. "Nothing too bad Agumon...just a migraine is all." That was the only thing he could come up with. As both an excuse should someone ask and well...it was the only thing he could think of that would explain the overwhelming headaches.
"My-grain? What's that." And of course the poor dinosaur didn't know the word, there weren't too many human things he did. "It's like a really bad headache. Like someone hit my head to the point where it hurts a lot." At that Agumon waved his clawed hands in a panic.
Immediately the poor guy tried to ask what he could do to help with the pain. If they should use some of the medicine they collected to take care of it. Or tell Aoi and see if she knew anything that could help. "It's fine Agumon...it comes and goes. My head didn't actually get hit by something."
That calmed him down, but it still didn't relieve his worries and offered him medicine. "Thanks buddy, but bandaging it won't help. Besides we need to find Miu. So for now let's just keep this a secret between us ok?" He didn't want to, Takuma could tell.
But he still promised him anyway. "You're the best Agumon!" It was only a matter of time before the truth would come out, but that could happen later. When Shuji's chilled out. When Miu is reunited, safe with her brother...and their friends were a little more upbeat.
He had to hold on. However it was a hard thing to do as he went to go searching behind a rusted carousal. He felt it again. "Agh!" This was the most intense bash to his head yet. So severe and intense he dropped to one knee, grasping his head-something he had always been able to prevent before.
"Takuma!" His vision began to blur as a voice appeared into his mind. It wasn't his, or the voice of someone he remembered, but a random stranger. Again, he's dealt with it before. So why? Why why why did it seem to be getting worse?
Was this how it was going to continue? Feeling like someone was squeezing his brain, or invading his headspace, stuffing it full of words and thoughts that weren't his? His body trembled as he shut his eyes. "There you are! You won't stop us this time!"
This was perhaps the worst time for them to be found and confronted by a bunch of the 'queen's servants.' Just like when they met them at the entrance of the run down amusement park, there was only three of them.
A walking flower, a flying hamster and a pink bird. Not too bizarre considering what Takuma's been dealing with the last few weeks. But still definitely unwelcome. "H-hey are you listening!?" Takuma hunched over more, unable to answer.
"Leave us be!" Agumon, his loyal friend and ally spread his claws on each side of him, shielding his partner from their view. "W-we can't! We have our orders." Takuma managed to open one eye, finding the pain to(finally!) be receding.
There he saw the three huddled together as they whispered amongst themselves. They kept glancing to between Agumon and Takuma while talking. After a few minutes they separate from their little circle. Thankfully all that lingered was a dull lingering ache...the worst of his migraine was over.
For now at least. "We don't trust you humans! But...Jijimon always told us to help those in need and you're in need." Takuma blinked in confusion as the three approached. This was by far the most confident he had seen them.
Then again. This was the first time they decided to target only one of them, instead of the whole group. He knew they were especially afraid of Kaito..."What?" Yet their words didn't make much sense.
"Do it Palmon!" The flower one nodded, rushing towards them. "What the?" Neither man nor monster were prepared to be ambushed like this. "Sleep spores!" Nor actually attacked. Takuma sneezed from the little white puffs that left their head.
Agumon too...but then he began to sway, before suddenly falling over. "Agumon!" Not even a moment later, he fell too. Barely conscious when he felt something bind around his waist, lifting him up in the air. "Let's hurry before the rest of their friends show up."
Faintly he could hear someone call his name but with how drowsy he was...he couldn't find it in him to care. All that awaited him was blissful silence, his mind for once a blank slate.
to be continued
