I am back with the third chapter in this little arc.
Anyway, I do not want to keep you all waiting any longer than you must so let us get into it.
So as always, all credit for this idea goes to Worldwanderer, and all those who are currently helping me in this endeavor. Also, all rights go to their owners as I own nothing!
P.S. I'm still looking for a beta reader if you're interested PM me and we can talk about the details, and I'll credit you at the beginning of each chapter.
"Scourge," Ijaat bit out the name as if it was a curse.
"I'm glad to see that you survived my crew's attempt to dispose of you. As it saves me the trouble of wiping out your whole Clan," The Devaronian sounded relieved by this fact.
"That's one way to get someone's attention," Valerie commented.
"For an underlining Ijaat, she is rather talkative; also, what's that supposed to be Ijaat? Your personal assassin droid?" The mockery was clear in the half-cyborg as he said this.
The Chief for his part didn't respond to the Devaronian insult, as he kept an eye on his motion tracker in case, he sent a team to try and eliminate them while they were solely focused on him.
"This isn't about my business partners you slemoo; I just want to know why you so kriffing happy to see me?" Ijaat asked getting straight to the heart of the matter.
As Ijaat had better things to do rather than placate the obvious unhinged Devaronian cyborg.
"That's what I always liked about you Ijaat, you are always to the point of the matter." The Scourge gave them another of his gleeful grins.
At which point John could not help but feel as if they had already walked into a trap; as he continued to silently scan the room while Ijaat continued talking with the obviously deranged crime lord.
"Cut the Bantha poodoo and get to the point," Ijaat growled at the figure, trying to keep the Devaronian attention fully on him.
As Ijaat first didn't want the barve to gain an interest in his mission partners, as such attentions from him usually provide to be fatal. But there was also the fact that Ijaat was not in the mood to play along with whatever theatrical the Devaronian had cooked up for him.
"So; to business then? Fine, Guards if you would bring her in." The red devil called to someone off-cam.
As moments later two large green Nikto guards appeared and with them was a woman who upon seeing them, John notice that Ijaat's posterior instantly went ridged.
"What, have you, done, to, her?" Ijaat bit out coldly.
As he had instantly recognized the bloody face of Naas. Needless to say, it came as a very unpleasant surprise for Ijaat, as he and most of his Clan had thought that Naas had died from a failed bounty-hunting trip over three months ago. So, to find out that instead of being dead she had been in the… 'Care' of the Devaronian for those three months was shocking, to say the least.
"Nothing, I just gave her my, personal hospitality." The cyborg explained as Chief then turned his attention to what was happening.
"Cortana, what am I look at?" Chief asked Cortana for the privacy of his helmet.
"Not sure, but whatever method of torture was used against her… it was effective. As her life signs are already fading." Cortana informed the Chief.
Who once again took a looked at the broken woman once again and found that Cortana was indeed correct in her assessment. As it was obvious that Naas was already at death's door, for she was showing all the signs that it would not be long before she passed through it.
Still, Naas would last long enough for the Devaronian to get what he wanted out of her; especially considering that he had taken great pains to keep her alive in case this opportunity presented itself to him.
So now that the opportunity had come, he fully intended to use her for it.
"But seeing as that will no longer be necessary, I'll be letting her go now." The Scourge said as reached for something outside of the feed.
At which point the Devaronian finally put Naas out of her missy, as he used the blaster now in his grasp to put a red bolt through her chest. In response to this Naas let out something that was a cross between a painful grunt and a pained cry as she then fell over.
As they then watched as her lifeless body fell over like a sack of rocks. Not even waiting to see the reaction of the Mandalorians; which would have been pointless given the fact that they were wearing helmets, the Scourge of the Corporate Sector then spoke.
"Now with that business taken care of; I would like to extend to you an opportunity! A ONE-TIME OFFER!" The mad Devaronian boosted as Ijaat silently fumed. "Came to the secondary bridge of the ship; meet me there Ijaat and we'll settle the score. Also, if you think about bringing your friends," The Scourge gave an evil little smile, "Let's just say that would have been detrimental to everyone involved." He said as the Hologram then flicked out with the after-effect of the cyber smile on everyone's mind.
"Stang; Ijaat I'm sorry about-," Valerie was starting to say when she was cut off.
"Later, right now we need to plan," Ijaat said more forcefully than he meant to.
But he did not notice it, as all, he was currently focused on how he was going to take down this kriffing son of a Hutt. As this was not about professional pride or the bounty on his head anymore, as this was a matter of Clans honour and avenging the fallen.
"Okay, so do we follow what he suggests we do?" Valerie then asked.
"He means to split us up so that he can take us out individually." The Chief pointed out this obvious fact to the others.
"Sadly, we don't have a choice in the matter. As we can't take the risk that he's not bluffing." Ijaat gritted his teeth as he said this.
As it was obvious to everyone there that he was still coming to terms with the fact that his Clan mate that they had thought dead for over three stander months now had been at the hands of that kriffing pirate. So, the two of them continued talking while Ijaat wrestled with his emotions over what had just taken place.
"If that's the case, then what do you suggest we do?" Valerie then asked the Spartan.
As it was now obvious, at least to her that he was the only one with something resembling a plan in his head; Valerie had nothing, and she knew that Ijaat was still reeling from the shock of having one of his Clan mates killed in front of him and was not in a state to come up a plan. So, it fell to the Chief to be the one to come up with the plan of action.
To which thankfully the Spartan was more than capable of doing.
"We secure our objectives; I'll secure the data core. Valerie, you'll ensure that our escape is unhindered." Chief said as he then turned to face Ijaat.
As the Spartan could tell how Ijaat was feeling, as the Chief had built up the skill of being able to read a person's feelings from the little hints they gave him through their body language, which was necessary given that SPARTAN's wear their armour nearly all the time. As such it was rather easy for John to tell that Ijaat was upset at what had taken place.
'I'll have to speak to him before we start the OP.' Chief then thought to himself.
Because John knew that if Ijaat went into this situation in his current state of mind then he would make mistakes.
Mistakes that the Devaronian would most certainly take advantage of during their fight and would certainly be the catalyst that would lead to Ijaat's demise, which was something Chief wanted to avoid for obvious reasons.
As his whole plan hinged on Ijaat either killing the Scourge or at the very least keeping him distracted for long enough that he and Valerie could accomplish their respective goals.
"This leaves Ijaat with the most important task; finding and vaping the sleemo," Valerie said, filling the empty air that John had left open.
"Leave that to me, I'll make sure to get the barve for what he's done," Ijaat stated coldly, as it was clear to John that he barely had his emotions under control.
At this point, Chief knew that he could not simply ignore this, so he then spoke up.
"The Scourge means to unbalance you for the upcoming engagement. I would advise that you keep your emotions in check." Chief then stated as he was more than familiar with these particular tactics.
All SPARTEN's were; as it had been a major part of their training to be able to identify when this kind of tactics were being used against them, so it had been easy for John to realize the psychological tactics the Scourge was attempting to employ against Ijaat. Tactics that had been successful given Ijaat's current state of mind, as John could not let Ijaat leave to face the Devaronian without having him realize what he was attempting to do to him.
Which, thankfully Ijaat did not need the Chief to spell out for him as the season Hunter realized that the Spartan was right. Still, Ijaat could not take John's advice, at least not if he wanted the Scourge to know that they were on to him.
"No, no I don't think I will." Ijaat said as a smile came to his face, "I'll let him think that he's gotten to me, by the time he realizes his mistakes I would've already planted a Kal through his throat." As he said this John knew that Ijaat was back on center, which meant they could continue on their mission.
"Understood, do we all understand the plan?" Chief then asked.
Chief got nods from both Valerie and Ijaat, as everyone was more than aware that this was not the best plan, but it was the only one that they could pull of given their current circumstances.
"To recap, I'm going to disable the Talons weapons systems, while you handle the computer core and Ijaat slots the barve on the secondary bridge," Valerie said.
As this was her understanding of the plan.
"Makes sure to COM if you run into any differences," John then stated.
Because everyone had to know if one of them ran into any difficulties while trying to reach their objectives, it might very well affect whether or not they survived this situation.
"I'll leave an open COM on my end. Still, it will be rather obvious if I fail." Ijaat stated simply.
This was true.
Because if Ijaat was killed by the Devaronian then John was certain that the Scourge would make this fact more than known to both Valerie and him.
"Do we have a plan B if this goes south?" Cortana then asked John as Ijaat and Valerie continued talking over the plan with one another.
"We'll steal a ship and escape. As I'm certain that the pirate has one on board." John stated simply.
As he was certain that this was the case. Especially considering the reputation of this pirate the Spartan expected that there was at least one ship tucked away somewhere within the heavy cruiser's hull.
"Oh. I wasn't expecting it to be that easy; anyway, I'll let you know if I come across anything related to that." Cortana informed him as she went dark again.
Leaving Chief alone with Valerie and Ijaat; who was just going over the last few details of their plan.
"-met at the hanger once our jobs are done." Ijaat then stated, as he then turned to Chief, as if asking him for his opinion on this.
To which Chief nodded in agreement; as despite talking with Cortana he had made sure to keep half an ear on the conversation. As Ijaat and Valerie had merely gone over the finer details of the plan, what they would do in case of something when wrong and where they would regroup once they had finished their respective objections.
For his part, John had not heard anything that had required his input, so he had felt comfortable letting Ijaat and Valerie handle the final details of this operation.
Something of a compliment from the Spartan regarding their abilities; considering that he trusted them to handle the finer details of a life-or-death mission.
Even so, John did already have a couple of contingency plans in mind in case things did not go to plan. But the Spartan would share those plans if and when they happen for the sake of time.
"If we're all agreed then, I would suggest that we start moving," Valerie said as she quickly left them and made her way to the doorway, they had entered this room.
But just as John was about to turn to follow lead Valerie, he was stopped when Ijaat's voice reached him.
"Chief, a moment," Ijaat said once Valerie was out of earshot.
The Spartan then turned to face the Mandalorian who was standing a little closer than he felt comfortable with. But this was understandable because John knew that Ijaat did not want Valerie to overhear what he was saying.
"Thank you for that, I needed that." Ijaat then said to the Spartan.
He was not used to saying considering that Ijaat had been something of a lone wolf for most of his career.
"No problem," John said as the old words of his trainer: Franklin Mendez came into John's head.
'You only win if your team wins.' At this point, the Spartan realized that there was something else he had to do before Ijaat left for his part of this mission.
"I want you to have this," John said as he then handed Ijaat the Beskar shield and another weapon that he had been hanging into that the Spartan was certain would be useful against the half-mechanic Devaronian.
"This weapon has a secondary firing mode, I'm certain that you'll find the right moment to use it," John stated simply.
As he was certain that the Devaronian was most likely eavesdropping on their conversation. So, he would not say aloud what the secondary firing mode of the plasma pistol was, or more importantly what it did.
Because the Spartan knew that this information might make the difference between Ijaat coming back to them alive, or him and Valerie being forced to deal with the deranged Devaronian.
Which Ijaat also seemed to pick up on as well, as, without another word spoken between the two men, Ijaat accepted both the shield and weapon John had offered him. Once he had them on his person, the two of them then quickly made their way to the doorway where Valerie was waiting for them before the three of them when their separate ways.
For his part, John had encountered sparse opposition on his way to the ship's computer core. Still, that did not mean that he did not encounter any resistance; as the Spartan would occasionally come across a hard point in the ship's defences which he would either have to break through or in some cases completely bypass.
But despite these issues, John was still making good time as he continued travelling further into the ship's interior and closer to his objective.
"That's interesting; I'm picking up a lot of chatter from the COM network in this area," Cortana informed John as he continued to make his way down the corridor.
"Can you identify who it's coming from?" Chief then asked.
"Give me a moment, and…there that wasn't too hard. Anyway, it seems we have drawn unwanted attention from the Mandalorian Patrol; as there are a couple of scouts in the area. So, I'm expecting more ships to show up shortly."
"That complicates things," Chief commented, as he knew that they were now on a timer.
"You can say that again, anyway they're still outside weapons range. Still, it will be a few minutes before enough ships arrive that probably attempt to move into engage." Cortana informed him.
"How far are we from the main data core?" Chief inquired.
"Not far, all we have to do is pass through one of the ship's main storage areas after which there will be an elevator that should take us straight there." Cortana informed him.
Chief inwardly grimiest; as he knew in all likelihood that the ship's main cargo hold had been turned into if not a fortress, then a rallying point for most of the ship's combat personnel.
But despite knowing this John continued to move at full speed down the ship's corridor. Not caring if he was being watched through the camera systems, as he knew that no one would believe him if he told anyone what they saw.
Even so Chief would ask Cortana to erase any evidence that they came across, lest this leaked out to the large galaxy and started making problems for him. Still, it was not like Chief could not handle such problems, just that they would be a major inconvenience for him; an inconvenience that John would rather like to avoid, as he knew that such rumours would draw the attention of not only the Republic and its client government, but most of the major Clans in the sector as well.
But those concerns were secondary thoughts at the moment as John saw his main objective come into sight. As such he slowed down until he was at a walking pace, approaching a set of doors in front of him.
"The main cargo bay is just beyond these doors," Cortana informed the Chief as he checked his motion tracker.
"Seems they're expecting us," Chief commented, as the motion tracker was lit up like a Christmas tree.
As the Spartan knew the moment, he opened the blast doors he would be in for what was certainly to be a long and drawn-out fight. This was something that John wanted to avoid, if possible, especially since he was now on a timetable.
This was a fact that Cortana was also more than aware of as well, as she had already run the numbers and they told her that they needed some out-of-the-box thinking if they were going to accomplish their objective.
"Why don't we even the odds a little?" Cortana commented in a way that Chief knew that she had some kind of crazy idea.
"What do you have in mind?" John then asked her.
"There happens to be a secondary entry point to the bay through a nearby maintenance area. Think you can fit?" Cortana asked cheekily as she set a waypoint for him.
Seeing that it was behind him, John immediately started backtracking until he reached the marker. At which point he brought out his energy sword and cut an entryway into the maintenance area Cortana had marked for him.
"We'll need to find a way to recharge the sword later," Chief commented as he made his way through the new hole he had made in the wall.
"I'll see if can find there's a way to recharge it alongside all the other Covenant weapons once we get our company off the ground," Cortana said as Chief entered the new hole he made and started moving through the maintenance area.
Cortana was right of course. As John knew that they would eventually need to find a way to rearm and repair all their exotic weapons from the Covenant Separatists. But John knew that this would be easier said than done.
As it was one thing to have all the information you needed, which John guessed that Cortana had gotten during her, stay in High Charity; but it was another thing entirely to build everything you needed from scratch, especially if there was no guarantee that they would be able to find the materials you need; which was a high possible given that they were in an entirely foreign galaxy.
This was something that the two outsiders were still coming to grips with. As they were still playing catch-up on what technology and materials were and were not available in this Galaxy.
Because both John and Cortana knew that they would eventually need to repair John's MJOLNIR armour and the UNSC weapons in their care. This was something that even Cortana was certain that they would be able to do; still, the AI strongly suspected that they would be forced to fabricate all the necessary components from scratch if that were at all possible.
If not, then they would be forced to use other similar components from this galaxy if they could not fabricate what they needed.
But these were problems that they could worry about later, as Chief then spoke up.
"Any idea as to where we can enter the cargo bay?" Chief then inquired.
"I do, though we can scoop out the situation from this position beforehand. I'll set a waypoint," Cortana informed the Chief as the said waypoint popped into existence on his HUD.
Without another word, Chief slowly made his way toward the point that Cortana had put up. It was obvious from just walking a couple of feet that this area of the ship was not being maintained very well.
As there was dust everywhere and it seemed that certain things needed repairs or were simply neglected. Which was not surprising given the fact that this was a pirate ship. Still Chief was starting to reconsider whether he would be better off just buying something completely new rather than attempting to capture the vessel should the opportunity arise; especially because he would not have to deal with the problems of an older ship such as this one should he buy new.
But this was something that John could figure out later as he had finally reached the waypoint that Cortana had set for him. Needless to say, once John got there and looked out into the main hold, he did not like what he was seeing.
As there was an army stationed in there, seeing this John quickly figured out this was probably the backbone of the ship's whole defence plan.
Which was an obvious problem for him, as the Spartan was currently on a very tight timetable. As such John could not afford to risk dealing with anything that might delay him from getting to the computer core within a certain timeframe.
So, knowing this, and having looked at the opposition he would face. John made the easy choice concerning the mission.
"Is there any way that we can bypass this area completely?" Chief then inquired about Cortana.
As the Spartan knew that it would be more prudent timewise to simply bypass this roadblock than to fight through it, after seeing the half-least dozen heavy weapons and the small army that dug into their position with clear lines of overlapping fire.
He knew it would take too much time to dig them out.
Time John simply did not have.
"Don't feel up to the challenge? That's fine, as it will give us more of a chance to explore the ship's interior." Cortana said, as she then started looking for a bypass that they could use.
It took her a moment to figure out the best route, as Cortana had to consider several different things they might run into. But in the end, Cortana got what John needed.
"Got it, though you might have to cut through another wall of two," The AI then warned her companion.
Still, this had not come as a surprise to John; in fact, he had to be expecting it. As he then silently started making his way towards Cortana's latest waypoint.
It took him a while to reach it, cutting through at least two other walls; but John finally reached what Cortana had identified as the ship's main workshop.
But despite what Cortana had told him John had quickly come to doubt that this was its purpose any longer, an impression that was only helped by the fact that moments after entering the area John suddenly heard a thunderous roar come from one of the nearby storage areas, which was quickly followed by what he knew to be a cry of pain.
At which point John immediately decided to investigate whatever was making that sound, in the hopes of figuring out just what they were doing here.
Upon entering what was supposed to be a storage area where the sound was originating from; John quickly found that it had been completely repurposed as it now seemed to be something of a mix between a butcher shop and a medical experiment area, with four droids gathered around what Chief quickly identified as a Wookiee.
As the continued to move closer to where the Wookiee was being held down, he could now see one of the droids with a syringe of some kind in hand, red liquid glowing inside.
Knowing immediately what was about to happen, Chief immediately opened up on the droid with the syringe while taking out one of them which was holding down the Wookiee's left arm. At which point with a thundering roar the Wookie immediately brought its free arm around to slug the other droid that was currently holding its other arm down it then threw off the final droid and got off the table, now standing to its full height.
"Reminds me of another monkey, minus the fur," Cortana commented as the Wookiee then stood to its full height to face the Master Chief.
As the two of them were around the same height, but that was not what mattered at the moment, as it was clear to the Chief that the Wookiee wanted out of this room, and that mean that it had to go through him, then so be it. As the large alien then threw a punch at him.
But as it did so, however, John entered into a state which was known as SPARTAN time, which allowed him to see events in what was akin to slow motion. Allowing him to avoid the aliens' attack but was caught slightly off guard when the beast managed to get a hold of him. Thankfully, it had only managed to grab him with just one hand, as the Wookiee then attempted to lift the Chief, but quickly found that it was unable to with just one arm. So, it simply shoved the Spartan into the nearest wall instead.
There was a loud boom, as the sound of the impact rang through the room. But for the most part, John was not hurt, more annoyed than anything. Even so, he was glad that he was not facing a Brute at the moment, for they seemed to be stronger than this Wookiee standing in front of him.
Even so, Wookiees did have an advantage over the Jiralhanae; what they seemingly lacked in brawn they made up for in brains. As he would show; when he unexpectedly picked up one of the downed droids and threw it at the Spartan.
This surprised John for a millisecond, for he had not been expecting the alien to use the downed robot as a weapon. Then again it was not unexpected, as Chief was aware of how resources Wookiees could be thanks to Cortana's briefings.
As he dodged the droid's flying body, he decided that this pointless fight had gone on for long enough; he then slipped under the Wookiee's next attack and grabbed the beast's wrists, slightly turning it to force the Brute to release the droid from its grip or risk breaking its wrist. Forcing the enraged Wookiee to release the droid while at the same time; Chief delivered a blow to the back of his head, forcing the Wookiee down to its knees.
At which point the hairy beast finally seemed to come to its senses as it then bellowed at the Chief demanding to know who or what it was.
"I'm part of a team trying to take down the Devaronian," Chief explained, to which the Wookiee did not respond right away.
Probably taken aback by someone responding to what it had said in Shyriiwook in basic. Still, it did not take long for the Wookiee to then ask as to how he had come here of all places, for his quarry was on the bridge.
"He was looking for another Mandalorian, he sent me to disarm a failsafe he put onto the ship." Chief then explained to the alien.
This was not the easiest thing for the Spartan to do, especially considering his history with such… creatures. But given the situation, it was more than likely that the being in front of him possibly held vital information that could save their lives.
To which the Wookiee responded with a couple of growls and roars explaining that he knew of this; given how he had been forced to help move some of the things related to what John spoke of.
"What do you know about it?" The Spartan then inquired of the Wookiee.
To which the beast explained that whatever it was that the Devaronian planned, he was planning on ensuring that there was no one left this ship alive. Something which Chief believed, as there was defiantly something in the main cargo hold that the Devaronian did not want them to know about. Which Cortana had already guessed was a bomb of some sort, given how heavily guarded the main hold was.
So, it came as a surprise when the Wookie then explained that the Scourge had done all this just to bring Ijaat to him. As apparently the two of them had something of a rivalry between them. Not that the Chief cared about that, as he saw it as nothing more than a pitiful waste of time and resources on their part.
But that was not his problem at the moment, as he had to figure out what he was going to do with this Wookiee in front of him.
"Do you have a name?" Chief then asked.
As it would be easier to refer to the Wookiee if he knew its name.
To which the Wookie then explained that its name was Wamoshoool, and he had been sold to the Devaronian by Trandoshan slavers from his home system of Kashyyyk. A fact thou not asked for was useful to know, as it also led to his next question.
"What is this place? What is it that they're doing here?" Chief then asked the beast in front of him.
As Wamoshoool then explained through a long series of growls and roars the large slaving operation that was taking place aboard the ship. To which Chief was surprised, but not that shocked.
For he had been aware thanks to Cortana that despite everything the Republic and this so-called Jedi claimed to stand for. They tended to turn a blind eye to certain things that were taking place within the galaxy they claimed to be guardians of.
Honestly, this was not the only reason why the Chief had his problems with the Republic and the Jedi as a whole. As there were many reasons, he could think of as to why he had no love for the current government. Even so, he felt as if the UGE could learn from their mistakes and nothing more.
As he did not want them to emulate them; for the simple reason that it would not work in their galaxy given the current geopolitical landscape of their galaxy at the moment.
"What were they planning to inject you with?" Chief then inquired.
To which Wamoshoool explained that what they were planning to do was inject him with a strong dose of drugs while implanting a control chip into the back of his head. If he disobeyed or try simply try to run away from his Devaronian master, they would simply detonate the chip, killing him for disobeying the Devaronian. This came as a rather unwelcome surprise to the Chief, as he had not known that the microchips were not only used in the slave trade of this galaxy; but could be potentially used as an improvised weapon made Chief feel extremely uneasy. Because that meant that every person, they had gunned down was now a potential living landmine.
"Chief we need to get moving if we're going to get to the computer core before the Mandalorian Patrol engages the ship." Cortana reminded the Chief of the mission deadline.
But just as Chief started to make his way out and leave the Wookiee; Wamoshoool then let out a loud roar which was probably meant to get his attention.
"What is it?" John then inquired.
At which point Wamoshoool explained that Chief's actions had spared Wamoshoool from what would have likely been short, horrible life followed by a grizzly death. As such in the customs of his people, Wamoshoool owned the SPARTAN a Life Debt.
Needless to say, John was completely taken aback by this unexpected development. As he had no idea what even a Life Debt was, but he could figure that out later as there were more important things he had to deal with.
"Well, isn't that something," Cortana then quipped as Chief started moving out of the room.
Chief for his part was not entirely sure as to what to make of this situation. As he was at a complete loss as to what he should do about this, even so, the Chief did know that he still had an objective to achieve.
But as he started to leave the room; Wamoshoool then called after the Spartan. Asking as to what he would have him do, for a moment Chief thought of telling him to go to the ship and have it prepared for their escape.
But quickly shut down that though, as Chief was not sure if the way back was clear anymore. Besides despite his feeling of xenophobia towards the Wookiee, John was not simply going to send Wamoshoool to his death.
"It's probably best that we bring him along Chief, as he'll have more knowledge of the vessel than I would have." Cortana then suggested.
Knowing that Cortana was correct in her assessment, Chief reluctantly waved the Wookiee to follow him as the strange duo started making their way to the ship's computer core. All the while Chief tried to figure out just what he had gotten himself into by saving this walking carpet.
Ijaat had finally fought his way to the outside of the second bridge in the upper portion of the ship.
It had been a long and extremely familiar experience, almost matching that of his previous attempt to storm the main bridge area when he had last been on the Bloody Talon.
'Okay, Scourge; let's see what you have planned this time." Ijaat thought to himself as he looked over the outer door to the bridge.
By now all of Ijaat's earlier anger had turned into a cold rage. But that was fine, as Ijaat was used to using his rage as a tool to make himself sharp and more focused, as he continued to look over the door for any signs of a trap.
As Ijaat was more than aware of just how the Scourge loved to set traps. But finding no sight of any, Ijaat reached into his utility belt and brought out a small breaching charge.
Though he was not entirely sure as to where this would be enough to breach the blast door, Ijaat did have two more as backups if this did indeed turn out to be the case. So, setting the charge; Ijaat immediately backed off. As he was not sure what kind of reception he was going to receive once he blew the blast door.
But knowing that there was no other way in; Ijaat activated the charge as he then felt the shockwave move through the hallway. Moving in once the smoke cleared, Ijaat made his way into the control room. He quickly spotted the Devaronian; he was currently sitting in the captain's chair overlooking the body of his fallen Clan member.
"Took you long enough; as I was starting to wonder if you had gone soft on me," Ijaat did not even bother to respond to the barvy Devaronian as he then loosed a couple of blaster bolts at him. At which point an energy shield then sprang into life, stopping the attack dead in its tracks.
"That's more like it; I was hoping that you would at the very least make this enjoyable." The Scourge said as he then made his way over to his weapons cash.
"Then why don't you drop the shield? So that I can show you how enjoyable I can be." Ijaat allowed a little irritation to enter his voice.
As was wanted to let the Devaronian believe that his plan to unbalance him had worked as intended. But once that shield was down; Ijaat would take great pleasure in showing him just how wrong he was in that assumption.
"I would love to, as I've been looking forward to this ever since you took half of my kriffing face you son of a Hutt!" The Devaronian screamed as the shields then dropped leaving no barrier between him and the object of his hate.
"Now, let's end this; Mando." The Scourge said as he then leapt at Ijaat.
As the Devaronian fully intended to avenge him on Ijaat for what he had inflicted on him nearly a year ago.

Sorry if this is not my best work, but it was just one of those chapters. As I struggle a bit with putting pen to paper as it were. Even so I got what I wanted onto it, even if it is not entirely sure that everything's flows well. Anyway, that is what rewrites are for, as at the end of the day it is out, and you can all enjoy it.
Hopefully, the next chapter will make up for this, anyway that is all I have to say for now, and until next time have a good one.
