Chapter 11
Austin- I'm not sure about that. I only watched the New Century show of Zoids, so I don't know just how powerful they actually are or how powerful they can get. I'll take a guess though and say they're superior in some ways over Mobile Suits but inferior in others. Though I'm guessing the power levels is greater for Zoids.
FlashDevil- I'm still up in the air on what Mobile Suit to give him initially. We could do that along with giving him a temporary Zaku, Gouf, or Dom for him to pilot until the GM Spartan is actually built in the timeline. But even then, it'll probably be a temporary machine because he'll most likely put so much stress on the machine that it'll literally break because of how fast he's reacting to threats.
Warmachine375- Eh, the Halo TV show wasn't even that bad. I consider it like the Witcher TV show. An alternative universe that does its own spin on things. It's kind of like DC Comic's various universes for their characters. Same with Marvel Comics. Calling it a disgrace is just silly. It's just a show that does its own thing with the Halo lore. A poorly done thing if they were going for a lore-accurate show, but its own thing, nonetheless. Plus, I knew from the start that they weren't going to strictly follow the lore, based on both articles and trailers.
Okay, so times up for the poll, and it's been decided that Primal will not be added into this fic. I can't say I'm surprised.
Bright Noa
White Base Bridge
"No way in hell am I doing that with that armored robot or whatever the heck he is!" Yelled Kai Shiden as he looked at Bright Noa, who just shook his head at Kai. He had just informed Kai, along with Amuro Ray, Ryu Jose, and Hayato Kobayashi about the offer of assistance that the green armored soldier gave him yesterday. All four young men were the main pilots for their three Mobile Suits and fighter craft, meaning they were all essential to be trained by their new ally in becoming better soldiers than everyone else. Unfortunately, one of his crew didn't see the potential that this would offer them and complained about it. That being Kai Shiden, pilot of their mid-range support Mobile Suit called the Guncannon and resident annoyance with his smart-aleck comments.
"And why exactly is that?" Asked Bright as he looked at Kai at his outburst. "He, along with his allies have shown nothing but cooperation and care towards us. Yet you're opposed to being trained by him?"
"You know why." Said Kai as he looked at Bright, who just looked at Kai Shiden. "The guy is a complete stranger. I mean, he shows up out of nowhere with a big ass ship that we have never seen before and looks like it came from the future, and then he makes a deal with us out of nowhere, promising help that we desperately need. And now he's offering to make us better soldiers. None of you think that a little too suspicious."
"You have a point, Kai, but I've seen that guy fight Zeons with the videos he provided. Believe me, he's not a friend of Zeons at all." Said Ryu, the only teen in the entire ship that actually joined the military willingly, being a cadet at the time the White Base was forced to conscript people to man it. He was also one of the guards that were with Bright when Master Chief showed them the combat recordings of his fight against the Zeons and, boy, did Ryu really not want him to be an enemy or that Kai was right and that this was all an elaborate plan by the Zeons to take the White Base or something along those lines.
"C'mon, Kai. Ever since he came on the ship, he's been nothing but a nice guest along with his friends." Said Ryu as he looked at Kai, trying to convince him to, at least, try this out. "Sure, he could be nicer, but he's done nothing to damage the trust that we have for him nor did he do anything to harm us in any shape or form. Give him a shot, Kai, and if you don't like it, you can just tell him." Kai thought up of a scenario of him saying that to the green armored monster and instantly didn't like it.
"Yeah, I'll pass." Said Kai as he sighed and rubbed his temples. "Oh, this is going to be swell. I can tell."
"C'mon, Kai." Said Hayato as he looked at his fellow crewmate in annoyance. "This is a really great opportunity for all of us. Not only will we get stronger in order to protect our friends and fellow crewmates, but we'll also be able to better hold our own against the Zeons when they attack us again. Isn't that a good thing?" Kai was about to make a counterargument to that when Amuro spoke up.
"Kai, just shut up and accept it." Said Amuro as he looked at Kai. "If you don't want to do this with the rest of us, just say it now and leave. Bright isn't forcing you to attend these training exercises with that guy. Unlike me." It was true. Bright had made it mandatory that Amuro attend these training exercises with the green armored soldier as he was the pilot of the Gundam, their best Mobile Suit at their disposal. Bright felt that it would be foolish of him to not include Amuro in this new training regime. He hoped that this training regime set up by the green armored soldier would not only improve Amuro's abilities as a soldier but also improve his ability to follow orders as well as his general attitude. The boy had nearly gotten himself killed several times throughout their journey together and it was Bright's hope that this green armored soldier can do what he failed to do in the past.
"Actually, Amuro, you all are doing this, whether you like it or not." Said Bright, causing all four to widen their eyes in shock. "You're all attending these training sessions because you're our best pilots and we need you all to be the very best that you can possibly be. As much as some of you may not like it, you're our best and last line of defense against the Zeons and anyone else that wants the White Base for themselves. Any training that will help you all become better pilots is a boon for us all." He then looked at all of them before speaking up. "I understand your reluctance at being trained by a complete stranger after what we've been through as well as them being strangers that we have no knowledge of, but let me assure you all that I will not tolerate any sort of abuse or hard lining against you all. He may be an ally and is willing to provide you all help, but that does not give him free rein to be harsh on you all. If he does, inform me right away and I'll put an end to his training regimes. Understand?" Upon hearing that, everyone nodded. Some more reluctantly than others.
"Good." Said Bright in satisfaction. "Now, if there are no more complaints, you all are to report to the right hanger bay. That's where your new training instructor will be in, waiting for you all." Upon hearing that, everyone saluted at Bright before leaving for the hanger. As they walked, Kai spoke up.
"Man, I can't believe this." Said Kai as he walked. "Can't believe we're being forced to undergo military training. This is so unfair." Ryu, having enough of Kai's whining, spoke up.
"Grow up, Kai." Said Ryu with a glare, stopping to grab Kai's collar, causing both Hayato and Amuro to stop and look at the two, unsure if they should intervene or not. "I don't know what you did for a living back at Side 7, but that's all gone now. You're a soldier now and people are relying on you from those that robbed them of their homes in the first place, including yours. Yeah, you're forced to be a soldier but none of us have a choice in the matter now! Our friends depend on us to protect them and, if this guy can help us do that, then let's give him a shot." Kai just grunted and raised his hands in surrender.
"Alright." Said Kai, causing Ryu to let him go. "Sheesh. Can't a guy complain about the unjust situation that he's been put into by two governments, especially if he doesn't care for either of them?" Ryu was about to argue with him further when Hayato spoke up.
"C'mon guys. Let's just get to that guy and start the training." Said Hayato, trying to diffuse the situation and be the big man. "Besides, I don't think he's the type of guy that tolerates tardiness and I don't want to think of the punishments he'll give us if we're late." Upon hearing that, both Ryu and Kai agreed to drop the subject for now and walked with both Amuro and Hayato to where Master Chief was. As they walked, the group wondered what the man will be training them on exactly and if it'll help them at all.
Meanwhile
Master Chief
"You won't hurt these children, right?" Asked Lilith as she looked at Master Chief as he checked his assault rifle for something. She honestly had no idea what he was doing with that weapon or what it was. She heard from her friend Luz that humans wield contraptions called guns to defend themselves in her world, but she had no idea what they look like. After seeing a few, though, she was certain she didn't want to see them in action, much less be used on people. "Especially with that weapon?"
"No." Said Master Chief simply as he looked at Lilith before resuming his weapon inspection. The man was currently waiting beside the Pelican for the White Base crew members that were selected to be trained with him on becoming better soldiers and it left Lilith a bit worried about the children's safety. She had no idea how he was going to train them and she was worried that he might hurt them or push them too far. "I won't push them too far. I'll start with some basic training. There's no reason to push them beyond their abilities at the moment. Not yet anyway." Lilith didn't like to hear that last sentence and thus glared at Master Chief.
"You shouldn't push them at all." Said Lilith as she glared at Master Chief, who looked back at Lilith. "They're teenagers and children that have been forced into this war for no good reason. You shouldn't push them harder than they're already suffering at the moment. Be gentle with them."
"I can't make that promise." Stated Master Chief, causing Lilith's glare to intensify. "I can't make that promise because we don't know what the future may hold. I also can't promise I'll be lenient on them because I don't know if some of them need to be treated harsher than others in order to get results. Am I clear?" Much as Lilith didn't want to admit it, she could see the logic in his argument. Thus, she begrudgingly nodded her head.
"Just promise me that you won't be too harsh and strict on them then." Said Lilith as she looked at the Master Chief with a strict look on her face. "They're still teenagers, after all." Master Chief just nodded his head at that before putting away his gun, having finished inspecting the weapon for any hidden deficiencies or problems. Truth be told, Joy could easily do this herself, and quicker too, but he wanted to do it in order to pass the time. Finding no issues with the weapon, Chief was about to put it away and inspect another weapon when he heard Fernando yelling out from the upper decks of the hanger, telling him that the kids were coming to get trained.
Truth be told, Fernando wasn't sure how to feel about Master Chief training kids. He never heard of the Spartan ever training people before. Granted, he heard a few Spartans that fought in the war against the Covenant and survived had helped train the next generation of Spartans, but he never heard of Master Chief doing any of that. He wasn't sure if he should be nervous about all this or curious about it all. He'll soon find out as the group that was going to be soon trained by the Master Chief came right behind him and began making their way towards the Spartan. Seeing the four coming their way towards him, Master Chief looked at the four as he got up. Recognizing the four from before, Master Chief walked up to them. The five stopped a few feet from one another before Master Chief spoke.
"I'm assuming you're the only ones that want to do this or your commanding officer ordered you all to do this." Said Master Chief as he looked at all of them, gauzing their physique and what he can or cannot do with them.
"More the latter, sir." Said Ryu, addressing the Spartan with respect as he felt he deserved that. For now at least. "Since we're the best pilots on this ship, our captain thought it would best serve the ship if we're trained to be actual pilots and soldiers."
"I see." Said Master Chief as he looked at all of them. "Are there any conditions or requirements that I need to know before we begin?"
"Yeah, Bright doesn't want you to be too harsh on us or abuse us." Said Kai nonchalantly as he spoke to the green armored soldier, causing the man to look at him. "Do it even once and he'll pull the plug on this whole thing. Got it?" Upon hearing the disrespect from his tone, Master Chief starred down Kai, causing the teen to yelp. He tried to step back a bit, but it caused him to trip and fall on his butt. This caused Hayato and Amuro to laugh a bit, much to Kai's embarrassment.
"I understand the man's conditions and concern for his crew, but that doesn't mean I will tolerate any disrespect from you." Said Master Chief. "You were forced to serve, I understand that, but that's in the past now. You're a soldier now, whether you like it or not, and as a soldier, you have an obligation to protect these people from the enemy over yourself. That goes for all of you." He then looked at all four young men. "As soldiers, it's your duty to protect your fellow soldiers from harm. To ensure that they come back alive or be safe from whatever tries to bring harm to them or anyone that you're to protect. Even if that means you have to sacrifice your own well-being or life to do so. However, that doesn't give you an excuse to just throw your lives away. That's why I'm offering my help to train you all. To help you avoid making that decision. To sacrifice your life to save others. Because human life isn't something that can be replaced. Never let anyone say differently about you or your comrades. Understood?" The four teens, including Lilith, were stunned to hear that speech from Master Chief, not thinking that he would ever say such a thing. Fernando, however, knew he would, having spent a good amount of time with him during their time on Zeta Halo, resulting in him smiling at the speech the Spartan gave.
Eventually, the four nodded in understanding, causing Chief to nod.
"Good." Said Master Chief. "To start off, introductions. My official destination is Sierra-117. Master Chief is also acceptable." Everyone who didn't know who he was, blinked at the destination as neither was an actual name. It was Lilith that would voice this out.
"What's your real name?" Asked Lilith, catching Chief's attention.
"Irrelevant." Said Master Chief simply, causing Lilith to blink in shock. How could someone deem their real name irrelevant to share? Before she could prod further, Chief spoke out. "If you want to keep an eye out for these four, you're welcome to. I have the feeling your presence can offer comfort." Blinking at this, Lilith asked why it would do such a thing. "Sometimes having a familiar face can help one do better in training, even more so if it's someone that cares for them. Agreed?" Lilith thought it over a bit before nodding in agreement.
"Agreed." Said Lilith, seeing where he was going with this. Sighing, she agreed to stay near and observe. Flying towards Fernando, she watched as Master Chief looked at the four young men and began his first training session with them. As she watched them train, Lilith prayed that the man will take it easy with them as she asked him to.
