Chapter 30
Pridefallen- I wouldn't really call myself a Halo fanboy or a fanboy of any franchise really. Does this story really give that impression to you? I mean, I try not to show blatant favoritism to one side of any of my crossover stories as much as possible unless it's blatantly clear one IP stomps the other. (Like my Mass Effect and Warhammer 40k Crossover.) What example of wanking gave you that impression? Was it the Spartan Laser scene? That's the one right? Anything else I can't think of off the top of my head. Also, this is the beginning of UC Gundam, where tech there isn't nearly as advanced as it is in F91 and beyond. Plus, I'm not going to show Turn A Gundam too. So, I don't see a problem here.
Don't get me wrong, I do think Halo is more advanced than UC Gundam. Sorry to say. I mean it has the Forerunners and the Precursors. Why wouldn't I think that? Unless, you're only saying LoL because of the human tech only, for which I do apologize, but I do think it's blatantly obvious that the beginning of UC Gundam is nowhere as advanced as Halo's UNSC. It's less obvious compared to the Covenant, Forerunners, and Precursors, but it's there. Just more hidden than the alien tech. Of course, you're free to disagree and try to convince me otherwise. I'm honestly willing to hear it. I've been proven wrong before. Plus, I never really bother with all the debates about which sci-fi IP is better and more technologically advanced than another one. I just want to enjoy the IPs.
Also, thing is, a lot of people want him to have a Mobile Suit. You're actually the only one that doesn't want him to have a Mobile Suit. Also, why not? It'll just make him cooler and more badass. Plus, make him more useful as well, especially when this story goes into space and he has to deal with all the craziness of Zeon constantly hounding the White Base. Again.
Grey01- Yeah, it really does. This one shouldn't be though. I think.
Dragon lord Syed 101- Yeah.
Reviews are appreciated, but unnecessary.
Federation convoy
Central Asia
"I can't believe we got this easy assignment." Said a Federation soldier as he looked at his passenger while he drove the flatbed truck that they were in. "All we have to do is transports these supplies and Mobile Suits to the base here in this area and we're back behind friendly territory. It's that easy."
"I don't know, man." Said the other Federation soldier as he looked ahead of him, seeing the friendly tanks and jeeps defending their truck along with the others behind them. "This seems a little too easy of an assignment. Don't you think? I swear, we're going to get ambushed by either Zeon soldiers or guerrillas that are against the Federation. Doesn't matter if they hate Zeon as well. They'll kill us just the same."
"You got to relax, man." Said the driver as he looked at his passenger. "I mean, c'mon man. No way guerrillas would ever fight a military convoy this large. Sure we don't have people to pilot those fancy robots, but we got enough tanks and guns to keep us protected. Besides, intel assured us that the route we're taking is secure. We go to our destination, unload our goods to the boys on the frontlines here, and then go back to our base to do it again sometime later. It's that simple."
It was true. The Federation had sent this convoy to help reinforce the Federation's presence in this region. In addition to the normal supplies, like food and ammunition, the convoy also had those fancy new Mobile Suits. The GM Ground Type. A sort of stop measure before they can produce Mobile Suits in the thousands. The driver wasn't sure how useful those Mobile Suits were with untested and inexperienced hands, but he didn't care. He was supposed to drive these weapons and supplies to those that do the killing instead and that was it. He wasn't paid to fight and that was something he liked. No risk to his life and he get three square meals a day, even if they were shit. Life was good for him.
Unfortunately, it was going to end tragically for him and everyone else in the convoy for that matter.
A few minutes later, the Federation convoy stumbled upon something that hindered their relief effort slightly. The site of a previous battlefield between Zeons and Federation forces. It was fairly recent it seemed as if there were still plenty of wrecked vehicles and bodies all over the road that the convoy was on. Either the Zeon or the Federation would have cleared the debris on the road, at least, otherwise, neither of them would have been able to use the road for any purpose at all.
Thinking it was either that or the guerillas in the area, he had heard that they often just attacked anyone, not of their number, the driver radioed the man in charge of the convoy and asked what they were to do.
Sure enough, the officer in charge ordered the convoy to clear the debris from their path. Soon, a few soldiers were exiting their vehicles and moving to remove what debris they can. They'll need to use the Mobile Suits they had to move the heavier debris, but anyone who doubted people will complain about the Mobile Suits being used to move junk.
It was when the soldiers assigned got to the first wrecked vehicle that the trap was sprung.
One moment a soldier was about to move some heavy debris with a few others, the next moment his head was blasted apart with something followed soon after by a barrage of red and blue fat projectiles that flew as fast as any bullet in the Federation arsenal for small arms. This was soon followed by a torrent of green projectiles that were sent toward the tanks of the convoy, destroying them or severely crippling them depending on where they hit. Some of the green projectiles even sent the tanks flying into the air and crashing into the ground, crushing anyone unlucky enough to be below them.
The sudden attack had caught the Federation soldiers completely off guard, preventing them from acting coherently with one another, resulting in them being picked apart without much difficulty. To make matters worse, both the leading vehicle and last vehicle in the convoy were destroyed by the initial volley of fire, trapping the others Federation armored vehicles or trucks in a single line. Some tried to free themselves only to get blasted apart by something far away.
It was then that some Federation soldiers noticed three Zaku Mobile Suits coming out of the ground amongst the wrecked vehicles and bodies around the convoy, using their thrusters to get out of the massive holes dug for them. Stunned to see three Zakus coming out of the ground and then firing upon the convoy once they landed, the Federation soldiers initially thought it was a Zeon ambush but then they noticed the new color scheme of the Zakus.
Rather than the typical green of a normal Zaku, these Zakus were colored primarily black with some red as highlights. They also bore a strange symbol on their shoulder shields that didn't corroborate with any known Zeon symbols. Before anyone can think of this further, the Zakus fired at the convoy with their machine guns, taking out the remaining tanks in the convoy, before charging in and beginning to either kick or pick up the jeeps or trucks of the Federation convoy.
One truck driver saw a Zaku charging at him and his passenger, it's red eye-burning bright with murderous intent. Before either of them could get out or scream in panic, the Zaku kicked the flatbed truck they were driving, sending it flying through the air before crashing into the ground amongst the wrecked battlefield, knocking both occupants unconscious. A somewhat merciful thing as the two no longer had to hear the screams of their dying comrades as they were picked apart by alien monsters that they have never seen before.
Later
The driver of the truck was starting to regain consciousness, waking to the sounds of strange noises along with the screams of dying men and women as whatever had attacked them was finishing off whatever survivors were left, having no interest in taking prisoners. Hearing the sounds of people being silenced suddenly caused the driver to look around for a gun and a way out. It was then that he realized that the truck he was in was upside down and that he was hanging off the ground due to his seatbelt. His co-pilot was not so fortunate as his seatbelt broke and he was now on the ground with his neck broken. Gulping a bit at the sight of his dead compatriot, the driver unbuckled himself and slammed into the broken glass-littered roof of the truck. Wincing a bit at the impact, the man started to go look into the glove compartment of the truck, knowing that there was a pistol there. Just as he was about to open it, something grabbed his arm and he was pulled out of the truck and out in the open.
He screamed out in panic at this and was about to struggle against what dragged him out when he was suddenly tossed onto the ground and received a glowing red blade to his neck. He didn't even get to see what attacked him.
Jega 'Rdomnai just grunted as he finished his latest kill. Deactivating his energy sword, Jega looked at the truck that he found the human in. It was a standard supply truck, that was clear to Jega, but it must have just been carrying food or medicine. It if had been carrying explosives and munitions, then it would have most likely exploded from how it had been kicked and tossed around as a result. Thus depriving the Banished of any potential use of the truck and its contents.
"Foolish Jackals." Thought Jega with annoyance as he looked at the three Zakus that belonged to the Banished. The very same Zakus that they had captured from their very first plunder of a Zeon base.
It had taken some time, but they managed to not only make them usable for the Banished and their various physiology but they've also managed to install some of their own upgrades into the units with a few more once they returned to base. Unfortunately, the robots worked best with the Kig-Yar species, who had better physiology for the mechs than the other species. The rest of the Banished species still had trouble fitting into the cockpits, despite the engineer's best attempts to adjust the cockpits for them. The troubles weren't as much as they were before, but they were still there enough that most of the Banished, and especially the Jiralhanae, cannot stand being those cockpits for too long. Jega had to admit, neither did he. If they had more time and more materials for these Zakus, which they learned of the name from human prisoners who were soon turned to meat for the Brutes and Kig-Yar, they would have made the cockpits more accommodating, but alas, they were needed to help raid and pillage. Thus, the rush job the engineers did to the cockpits to make them accessible to them all. Hopefully, they'll be able to produce their own Mobile Suits, one that they can pilot without much issue or they'll be able to retrofit the suits more, along with others they steal from the Federation and Zeons, to better accommodate them, but for now, the Jackals will do as pilots, who seem to have become accustomed to piloting the massive mechs.
Of course, having Jackal pilots had its flaws. They lack discipline and it was hard for Jega to keep them in line enough to prevent them from endangering other Banished or what they desire to steal from the humans here in this region. They were impetuous and lacked foresight as demonstrated when one Kig-Yar decided to kick a truck, not knowing what its contents were or caring about the potential Banished they may have stomped on while attempting such a stupid move. They were lucky today with that truck and the ambush a few moments ago, but Jega can see there being troubles if the Kig-Yar they've chosen to pilot those Zakus does not act more coherently with the rest of the Banished. Chosen because they have some experience in piloting vehicles, not for their discipline. If such a thing can be found amongst the Kig-Yar.
Granted, this was their first real combat mission with the Mobile Suits they stole from the Principality of Zeon, but Jega will not let that be used as an excuse at all. They had limited bodies and Jega will not have them be wasted because of some undisciplined Kig-Yar wanting to test out their new toys.
Growling as the Kig-Yar Zaku pilots went on to hide in the holes they made for the Zakus, something that took a while to do, again, Jega then watched as the Banished troops around the human convoy were beginning to loot and pillage the bodies and the vehicles of supplies.
This was a fine haul for the Banished. While Jega did not see the contents much yet, he knew that it was a big haul for there were three machines that were of similar size to the Zakus. Though they were of a different design and likely not accommodated for Sangheili as the Zakus were, Jega knew that they were Mobile Suits and that alone made this ambush worth it. Having more suits meant they had a stronger force. And having a stronger force meant that they can go for bigger and thus sweeter plunder.
It amazed Jega how easy it was to ambush the human convoy. The wrecked battlefield that stopped the convoy in its tracks was fabricated by the Banished a while ago. Using one of the Zakus, though piloted by Sangheili for a brief moment so as to not mess this trap up by making it obvious to people, even humans, that it was a fabricated battlefield meant to lure people into a trap, the Banished made a roadblock of vehicles and bodies that they had destroyed in their raids and attacks on human military installations and villages along with scattered vehicles and bodies all around to make it seem like a battle took place on the road. Then, after they completed their little fabrication, the Banished began creating giant holes all around the road for their Zakus along with other holes for their warriors. The idea was to wait for whatever prey came upon the road, whether it be human civilians or soldiers, then, while they were trying to clear the road, the Banished struck and kill the humans then take whatever they wanted from the bodies and what they had on their vehicles if they had any. This trap, like a few others they set around key roads in the area near their base, was monitored by the Banished with sensors and forward lookouts, placed in areas too well hidden for people to notice them. When either the scouts or sensors notify the Banished base about people approaching one of the traps, the Banished would rush to where they needed to long before they needed to spring it so they can take what they desire from the humans after the trap is sprung.
The trap idea had been Jega's idea. After their final raid on a Zeon base two weeks ago, they found that the remaining bases in the area were the most fortified and too far from their own for the Banished to risk launching an assault, even if they used infiltration and stealth. Investigations by both the Federation and the Zeons into the attacked bases and villages the Banished attacked were done, but they would find nothing leading to the Banished. In fact, they didn't seem to do much beyond look at the initial observations and left, assuming it to be the work of the opposing faction or human guerrillas according to a Sangheili that had observed such an investigation team once. Ignorant humans.
Because of this and the fact that the human villages were all burnt to the ground as well, Jega decided to change tactics. Rather than attack those bases head-on, Jega devised two plans. One of which is still in development. The other involved the traps. Why attack the remaining human bases and risk themselves when the Banished can simply starve them out? Scouting by the Banished has revealed that their base and the forest it was located in was around and near several key roads in the region. Poorly maintained roads, but roads nonetheless, that both sides used to transport supplies to the various bases in the region. There were other roads, but both the Federation and Zeons used these roads to transport supplies in an efficient manner. Thus, Jega had devised several traps on these roads with the deadliest being those closest to their base, their Mobile Suits had to be kept hidden along with their other vehicles after all. The hope was that the deprivation of vital supplies will drive both sides to either conduct desperate attacks on one another to end the conflict in this region or resort to airdrops for supplies. Either one would suit the Banished and their goals well. One because it would make it easier for them to raid the remaining bases in the area and two because they can steal whatever the factions use for airships to go to Southeast Asia and take the weapon there for themselves. It wasn't the quickest or most exciting of plans, but the Banished were kept satisfied with the slaughter and brutality they give to the humans that fall for their traps, surprisingly. Jega had wondered this, wondering why the humans of either the Federation or Zeon sent people to investigate this, but didn't wonder about his fortunes. It kept the Banished in line after all.
But moving on, this was likely the last ambush they will do in this region. Prior to them noticing another human convoy approaching one of their traps, a Federation one by the looks of it, Jega had been informed that the crucial component to his other plan was completed. With it completed, they'll be able to take on the remaining human bases without many issues. Then, once the defenders are killed, they'll take what they have and use whatever airships they had to go to Southeast Asia for greater plunder.
Walking to a Sangheili grabbing a crate full of weapons, Jega hummed as he looked at the remaining vehicles of the convoy, checking to see which are still usable and which are not. All of the tanks were destroyed, an unfortunate necessity, but a few trucks and jeeps were still drivable and usable for the Banished, although most of those would likely be melted down and scraped, despite their usability, in order to produce more Brute weaponry and ammo as the Jiralhanae desired more weapons from their own making. As if they didn't have an abundant supply for them already.
Twitching a mandible, Jega wondered how the Banished fared back on Zeta Halo and how they fared against the humans present on that ring. He also wondered if he'll be able to return back to them and help avenge his friend's death at the hands of the humans, particularly that Spartan that slayed him.
Thinking about the Master Chief, Jega wondered if that Spartan was here, in this strange world as well. If he was, Jega would find him and once again attempt to kill the Spartan that killed Escharum. After all, it wouldn't do if Jega allowed a Spartan to live. What kind of Spartan killer would he be if he did that?
