Chapter 31
Pridefallen- I wouldn't call the Master Chief the most overrated or wanked character in existence. I've seen so much worse with other characters like Batman and various Shounen anime characters. Though I do understand why you say that.
Anyway, why would you think giving Amuro a chance to fly the Pelican be a in character thing for Master Chief to do? Aside from doing what you claim to be a fair action, there's no reason at all for Master Chief to do such a thing. Not without raising an eyebrow regarding his character. For one, there's very little reason to just give Amuro a flying lesson in the Pelican when the White Base is in the situation its currently in right now. Two, what benefit does it give to both the White Base and Master Chief's group to teach Amuro to fly a UNSC vehicle that'll be largely useless in, again, the situation the White Base is in. And three, how is giving Amuro a chance to pilot a UNSC vehicle even remotely a fair exchange for Master Chief to have his own MS? That's a very…very…unfair exchange. I hate to say it, but I don't see the logic in that statement of yours. And this is only the three things coming at the top of my head right now, I'm sure there's a handful more reasons on why this wouldn't work at all.
Also, I'm sorry but I can't understand anything you said in the first comment. What reasons do you mean by me underestimating UC Gundam? I'm lost. Also, I'm sorry to say, but I think you're underestimating the UNSC and Covenant here as well. Like you, I'm just a regular Halo fan that just enjoys the games and lore of Halo. Now, I'm not the most knowledge person when it comes to the more deeper parts of Halo lore, but I do believe that the UNSC and Covenant's technological advantages far outpace anything in early UC Gundam. Sorry to say. And I'm not talking about weapons tech. I'm also talking about logistics technology, medical technology, sensor technology. All the various branches of technology that most fanfiction writers tend to forget about. They also tend to forget about the idea of factions either adopting the technology of another I.P.'s technology or making new tech to counteract the advantages of another I.P.
Also, I hate to admit it, but I think a lot of people tend to forget the range disparity when it comes to crossover fics. Like, the fights in most Gundam universes occur in very short ranges when compared to Halo or Mass Effect fights and we have proof of that with things like the Jormungand. I could go on, but I think I've spoken my thoughts on your reviews too much already. Feel free to disagree and your thoughts on what I said.
Imaginary Guy117- Well the problem with that idea is that it'll basically be this fic just with a different Gundam universe, even with a different story. So there's little to no point in doing so besides just doing it for the sake of doing it. However, I can see myself doing it if it was a different franchise other than Halo crossing over to Gundam Seed. Like, for example Star Wars with the Bad Batch or Cal Kestis. Likely the latter as he has two aliens with him. That will certainly be something Blue Cosmos will have a fit over. (Merrin more so because of how human-like she is.)
White Base
Lilith
Lilith couldn't help but smile as she watched the children of the White Base play around in the halls of the White Base nearby. Master Chief, meanwhile, said nothing as he observed the prisoner sneering at him and Lilith as he was given his lunch by Fraw Bow. Despite the girl's protest, Master Chief came along with her as she gave the prisoner his food. A young girl going to give a trained prisoner of war his food without an escort to protect her was just giving the prisoner a chance of escaping. Not to mention giving him a chance to leek vital information to his allies that can compromise the safety of everyone on the ship. So, he was guarding Fraw Bow while she was doing her assigned task. Besides, its not like he doing much else.
Things have been quiet since Lilith, Master Chief, and Fraw Bow helped with Amuro's trauma. Since then, and after the battle that occurred during the whole predicament, the White Base traveled to Odessa in order to help participate in the upcoming battle there. Master Chief didn't know the exact details, but it was apparently important because Fernando overheard from the engineers of how the Federation was amassing a big army to take Odessa and Bright told him, apparently trusting him enough after what he did for Amuro, that they're heading to Odessa to help the Federation in a major operation. A major operation, in which, could help turn the tide of the war against the Principality of Zeon.
Though Master Chief and his companions held no true loyalty to the Earth Federation, their loyalty to the deal they made with the White Base crew was true. Thus, they were still onboard the ship and would continue to do so for their protection. Besides, Lilith, Fernando, and Joy have gotten quite attached to the crew and didn't want any harm to befall on them. Of any type. Chief, though had a more distant relationship with the White Base crew, would still protect them from harm. Even if they had to fight alongside him, something that Master Chief disliked a great deal, he'll do his best to make sure they aren't put in as much danger as necessary. Something shared by Lilith, Fernando, Joy, and Bright, who Chief knew hated the fact that he was sending young teenagers to fight soldiers that not only had more experience in warfare then them, but also better training and support from their government and military.
Speaking of the enemy, the prisoner, an ensign Cozun, spoke to both Lilith and Master Chief after Fraw Bow finished giving him his food.
"Why the fuck are you two onboard a Federation ship?" Asked Cozun as he looked at Master Chief and Lilith, confusion mixed with the contempt that he was feeling towards the two oddities in the Federation ship. Sure there were plenty of oddities on this ship, like it being crewed by nothing more than young men and women that were mostly still in their teens, which was beyond insane in the eyes of Cozun along with disbelief that some kids were responsible for the death of Garma Zabi and the first consecutive defeats of the Red Comet himself since the start of his careers as a Mobile Suit pilot, but these two were something else.
The armored man, given the masculine voice, could very well be the pilot of that white Mobile Suit, the Gundam as those blabbermouth kids called it, which would explain how the Red Comet failed so much against the Trojan Horse. Cozun couldn't explain it, but his instincts told him that the green armored man was a skilled warrior. One with years of combat experience. Since his instincts have never been proven wrong so far, Cozun was inclined to agree with them. Plus, the Federation wouldn't have put a kid as a pilot of one of their first Mobile Suits. Not when they got someone like this on their side. They're not that stupid.
The green-colored armor was a bit weird, Cozun will admit. It was far too bulky and heavy to be of any practical use in a Mobile Suit cockpit, which was typically small in order to conserve space for more important equipment for the Mobile Suit and the like. Plus, if a Mobile Suit is destroyed, an armored pilot suit isn't going to be of much help to a pilot when their suit blows up around them. It could be for hand to hand combat, but why built a suit like the one that man is wearing right now when the true decider of the war is going to be the Mobile Suit and the Federation making more of them? And then there was the strange woman with him.
Although her strangeness was more hidden than the big armored man beside her, Cozun can still see some strange things about her that set her apart from everyone else on the ship.
The two real obvious things being her in civilian clothes while everyone else on the Federation ship was wearing standard Federation uniforms, baring the armored man with him and those kids Cozun saw when he first became a prisoner. The fact that the woman was wearing a dress and looked more like a schoolteacher than a soldier spoke volumes that she wasn't a soldier and a mere civilian. Why a civilian, let alone children, were allowed in the Trojan Horse spoke a great deal of the Federation's desperation for more soldiers. Either that or the corruption and uncaringness of the Federation. However, that actually paled in comparison to the other thing that Cozun noticed of the woman. The knife-shaped ears.
The uneducated would assume that she was born with those ears or that she intentionally made her ears like that for some reason, but Cozun knew better. Those ears were much too refined, too perfect, and there were no indication of them being cut anywhere around the edges. Meaning that she was born with them. Now, there have been people born with strange oddities, Cozun knew that much, but there was no possible way someone was born with elf-like ears. Not possible. So Cozun was suspicious but also curious around this woman. Perhaps more so than the armored man she was with. So, he was eager to get information on them including that bearded man that had a strange uniform that he never saw before.
Was that strange uniform a part of Project V like the Mobile Suits and this ship the Federation made? If so, why wasn't anyone else on this ship utilizing them. And why was that guy along with these two the only adults on this ship over twenty years old?
Hearing the question directed to them, Master Chief looked at Cozun and spoke briefly.
"That's not something a prisoner of war like you is allowed to know." Said Master Chief while Fraw Bow got out of the cell and walked behind Lilith, wondering what Master Chief was going to say to the prisoner. "The fact that you already know the names of this ship's Mobile Suits in addition to the crew composition of this ship is a mistake that won't happen again. Any additional information will not be leaked to you at all. Nor would there be any lapse in your security detail." Cozun couldn't help but give a huff at that. It seemed that there was at least one person on this ship that knew what they were doing. He saw that when the man saw the hidden wire and fake tooth he could have used to escape a while back. He's a good soldier and it was strange that he was the only experienced soldier on this ship. Something was fishy and Cozun needed to report it to Ramba Ral as soon as possible. If only he could find a way past this guy.
Seeing that Cozun wasn't going to be of any trouble for now, Master Chief backed off and walked away with Lilith and Fraw Bow in tow. As they walked away, Fraw Bow spoke to Master Chief.
"You honestly think he'll try to escape?" Asked Fraw Bow as she looked at Master Chief. After what he did for Amuro and with how long he stayed on the White Base, Fraw Bow had gotten used to the Spartan. In fact, everyone did. People still found him intimidating and scary, yes, but they trust him to be there for them when they needed it and that was enough for people to start conversations with him from time to time when it was clear he wasn't doing anything important.
"He will try." Said Master Chief. "Due to lapses in security, he now knows important information about this ship, its personnel, and its cargo. Information that his superiors will no doubt want to know so they can use it against us and he knows this. Thus, we have to prevent him from escaping and leaking that information to his allies if we want to live. He may lack the tools he had previously but that likely won't stop him from trying anyway."
"I see." Said Fraw Bow, a bit sad at that. "Should we increase further security around him then?"
"Only if you can spare it." Said Master Chief, remembering what happened in the battle that took place while he and Fraw Bow were in Amuro's mind. The battle was against a Zeon mining base and although the base had minimal defenses for base of its size, the White Base took some heavy hits from a surprise attack from sudden enemy reinforcements. An attack that heavily damaged the White Base's engines. They were lucky that they managed to escape after crippling the enemy base, even more so when they learned that an enemy Mobile Suit force was nearby and making its way to help the base. A few minutes longer or if that Mobile Suit force was closer and they would have been upon the White Base and likely destroyed them. "The crew is already on edge from our recent battle. Almost all of our remaining resources are spent or in short supply. And people have been doing double shifts just to maintain our engines, which took a hit in that last battle. We need to land in a safe location and do repairs on the ship. I assume Bright is on that." Fraw Bow nodded at that before replying back.
"Last I heard, the bridge found a decent hiding spot for the ship while we make repairs on it." Said Fraw Bow. "We should be safe so long as we're careful. And lucky as well." Master Chief just gave a slight nod before the three continued walking to the bridge to talk with Bright regarding a few things.
Meanwhile
Ramba Ral
"And you're certain that the Trojan Horse will be in this region, Clamp?" Asked Ramba Ral as he and his Gallop land battleship were out in the desert looking for the Trojan Horse. A few days ago, the Trojan Horse had attacked one of M'Quve's mines. It was one of the more minor mines, offering very little strategic value for the Federation to attack, hence the minimal defenses it had and why it got taken out so easily, but the Trojan Horse attacked it nonetheless. Why, Ramba Ral had no idea but he's not questioning his fortune that much as it provided him the general location of the Trojan Horse.
Originally, Ramba Ral had intended to provide support for the base that the Trojan Horse attacked. He and his men were actually the only Mobile Suit team in the immediate area able to provide assistance. Thus, they went to support their allies, despite not knowing what was attacking them at the time. They failed to arrive in time to help, the Trojan Horse, which they later had been the attackers due to the bases' survivors giving a description of said attackers to Ramba Ral when they arrived and helped the survivors. With the knowledge that the Trojan Horse was in the area and damaged from its attack, Ramba Ral and his men left after doing what they can to help the base.
"Yes sir." Said Clamp as he provided a map of the local region to Ramba Ral and Hamon. "This area is filled with canyons, cliffs, and rocky terrain that can easily hide a ship of that size. Plus the dessert heat can play havoc with our sensors that can easily be mistaken for Minovsky Particle interference. If the Trojan Horse was really as damaged as the mining base said it was, then they'll come here in order to make repairs to vital sections of their ship." Ramba Ral hummed at that, finding Clamp's logic sound.
"In that case, we'll need to widen our search pattern." Said Ramba Ral. "We have a few unmarked motorcycles in our possession along with our Mobile Suits. We'll use those to help broaden the search. Hamon, have some of the men take those bikes and look for the Trojan Horse in these areas." Ramba Ral pointed to several locations with cliffs and rocky terrain that was close to their Gallop. "Make sure they're not in uniform so that, if they do spot the Trojan Horse, they won't be shot on sight. Meanwhile, I'll take our Zakus and the Gouf to scout out the terrain as well. With some luck, we'll be able to find the Trojan Horse before they can repair their ship enough that they can escape us again. Does everyone understand their orders?" When Clamp and Hamon nodded, signifying they understood Ramba Ral's plan, the Blue Giant spoke again. "Then let's find the Trojan Horse and bring it and its contents for Admiral Dozle." With that, Ramba Ral's unit began to prepare for their latest attempt in fighting and capturing the Trojan Horse for Zeon.
As he was leaving for his Gouf, Ramba Ral thought of the Trojan Horse's laser weaponry and how that will affect the next battle they have with the Trojan Horse. He already sent a report about the laser weapon along with proof backing it up to Admiral Dozle. Although he hadn't yet received a response back from Admiral Dozle concerning the report, he was certain that it will cause much uproar from the Admiral and his family.
Effective portable laser weaponry that can deal damage to Mobile Suits' reliably. Such a weapon can be devastating to Zeon. Maybe even crippling. While Hamon and Clamp were still skeptical about the whole laser weaponry matter, Ramba Ral knew that it was indeed laser weaponry that damaged his Gouf. And he knew that revelation made capturing or destroying the Trojan Horse and its contents even more important. If the Federation managed to develop effective portable laser weaponry against Mobile Suits, who knows what else they managed to create with their V Project.
Hopefully, this revelation will provide Ramba Ral with more support than before. While Ramba Ral was confident he can still prevail with the resources he had at the moment, it never hurt to have more support from his people.
Taking a deep breath, Ramba Ral resumed his walk to his Gouf Mobile Suit, completely repaired from the damages it sustained the last time he fought against the Trojan Horse and its Mobile Suits. As he walked, he wondered if fortune will smile upon him and his men today or the Trojan Horse.
