Elsa couldn't help but smile as she folded the last of Jack's clothes from his luggage, her thoughts drifting to how domestic the moment felt. She was a wife now, wasn't she? It was strange, in the best way possible, to think about their shared life ahead. She picked out his favorite blue hoodie and a pair of brown pants, tucked deep at the bottom of his suitcase. They'd look perfect together.
And then, there they were. The SpongeBob underwears.
She couldn't stop herself from chuckling. "Well, I guess he wasn't lying," she muttered, shaking her head in amusement as she tossed them onto the bed next to the clothes she'd chosen. She knocked on the bathroom door and heard Jack's voice call out, "Yes?"
"I put your clothes on the bed," she called back, trying to sound casual. "I'll be downstairs making lunch. Would you like some? Anything you'd want?"
She heard him chuckle from the other side of the door, and his reply was exactly what she hoped for: "Thank you, and yes, please, whatever you're having."
As she made her way down to the kitchen, her mind was already racing. She wanted to make something special. After all, it was their first time living together as husband and wife. She didn't want to make a bad impression, but then again, what did 'special' even mean? Something fancy? Maybe, but that felt a bit too much. Was it rude to make whatever she was in the mood for? She didn't want to overthink it, but why was she suddenly second-guessing herself?
Why was everything so much more important than it should be?
Lost in her thoughts, Elsa accidentally bumped into Sebastian, causing both of them to pause.
"I'm so sorry, Sebastian," she apologized, looking up at him with wide eyes.
He waved it off with a kind smile. "It's all right. I was just on my way out to water the garden and then I have some errands to run. But before I go, is there anything you'd like me to help you with?"
Elsa hesitated, biting her lip. She had been thinking about how to make Jack feel special today, but wasn't sure how to go about it. "Actually, yes," she said, her eyes brightening with a sudden thought. "Do you know what Jack likes for lunch?"
Sebastian's smile grew understanding. "Ah, trying to impress Jack, I see? Well, if I remember correctly, he loves Grilled Cheese Sandwiches and Blueberry French Toast. And for drinks, I've only ever seen him drink smoothies. Strawberry smoothie is always a favorite."
Elsa blinked in surprise, not expecting such specific details. "Grilled Cheese and…Blueberry French Toast? That's…an interesting combo," she said, trying to process it. "But…if you don't mind, could you please help me make them? I don't exactly knowhe to cook."
Sebastian chuckled, though his eyes softened in sympathy. "I'm afraid I'm not much of a cook either. But I can try to help if you'd like, or I can just order something if you prefer."
Elsa's face scrunched with frustration. She really wanted to make Jack something nice. "No, I'll figure it out. You go ahead and do your thing. It's fine."
Sebastian smiled warmly, clearly understanding her determination. "All right then. I'll be outside." He gave her a small nod before turning to leave, his footsteps fading as he went outside to tend to the garden.
Elsa clapped her hands together, exhaling with a mixture of excitement and nerves. She pulled out her phone and began searching for recipes for Blueberry French Toast. "Okay," she murmured to herself, "Let's get started."
She glanced at the speaker in the corner of the room and decided to play some music, hoping it would help her focus. She wasn't particularly into music, but for Jack's sake, she'd give it a try. She clicked on Love Story by Taylor Swift, a song she hadn't heard in years.
As the familiar melody played, Elsa found herself drawn in. By the time the chorus hit, she realized she wasn't just listening to the song, she was actually enjoying it. The lyrics were sweet, and the music had a way of making her feel light and happy, like she could dance along if she wanted to.
She let herself get lost in the moment, stirring the batter for the French Toast with a little more energy. Maybe she wasn't the best cook, but today, she was going to make this work.
"Told ya you'd like it." Jack leaned casually against the handrail of the staircase, a smile tugging at his lips as he watched Elsa dance around the kitchen with a spatula in hand.
Caught in the act, she froze for a second, her cheeks flushing. She quickly lowered the volume on the music, but the upbeat tune still filtered through the air. "Turns out you were right," she admitted, grinning, "It's not that bad."
Jack rushed down the stairs, nearly tripping over his own feet in his eagerness. He caught himself just in time, his excitement bubbling over. "So, what have you decided?" he asked, rubbing his hands together as he looked toward the kitchen with anticipation.
Elsa grinned but wasn't about to let him take over. She gently shoved him toward the kitchen table and planted him on the stool. "No, mister. I'm making it today. You can sit there and relax. This is the least I can do after everything you've done for me, and all you'll be doing for the coming days."
Her words had a profound effect on him. He stood up so quickly he almost knocked over a chair. "You don't owe me anything, Elsa," he said earnestly, walking over to her. "It was my decision, and I wanted to. It wasn't forced. So please, just enjoy this break with me."
Something in his words settled in her chest, and for some reason, it felt so easy to just agree with him. "Okay," she said softly, smiling up at him.
With a quick motion, Jack grabbed her hand and pulled her back toward the kitchen. "Now, let's make lunch together. I'm thinking Mac n' Cheese for me, and maybe a drink. What would you like?"
Her gaze softened as she looked at him, almost mesmerized by his easygoing charm. Without thinking, she touched his cheek and repeated his words. "Whatever you're having."
Jack blinked, caught off guard by her gentle touch. Without saying a word, he leaned down and kissed her forehead, tying on his apron with a grin. "All right then, Your Majesty, take a seat. I'll make us lunch."
Elsa pouted playfully, her arms crossed in mock annoyance. "Hey, that's not fair! We're supposed to do this together."
Jack, already grinning at her reaction, countered smoothly. "Okay, you've got a point. How about this: I'll make the lunch, and you can get comfortable and explore the kitchen. Tomorrow, though, you'll help me with breakfast, but only a teeny tiny bit." He pinched his fingers together to show just how small of a task she'd have.
Elsa was ready for a fight. "Why only 'teeny tiny bit' and not more?"
Jack's response was flawless, his voice laced with an easy confidence. "Well, a woman is to be cared for, Elsa. You shouldn't have to be stuck doing all the chores or cooking at home. That sounds a little old-fashioned to me, honestly." He paused, thinking for a moment. "But if you want to do something, you can. Of course, I won't stop you, but I don't want you overexerting yourself."
Her brows furrowed as she processed his words, and she shook her head with a small smile. "Jack, I appreciate it, but I've been doing this my whole life. It's not a big deal."
He smiled softly, tucking a loose strand of her hair behind her ear. "Well, you don't have to anymore." He saw the frown flicker on her face and quickly added, "But alright, alright. If you want to, you're more than welcome to."
Elsa opened the fridge to grab some strawberries for their smoothie, still thinking about his words. A question that had been lingering in her mind for a while finally slipped out. "Jack, just a quick question. If you haven't been here in months, why does this cottage look so clean, and the fridge is fully stocked?"
As he stirred the macaroni in the pot, Jack shrugged nonchalantly. "I asked Loki to get it done."
Elsa stared at him for a moment, processing his response. "Sebastian," she repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Of course."
"Yup"
"Oh, that makes sense. I thought you were lying, and this was rented." Elsa joked, squeezing his shoulder playfully.
"No, it's not. It's ours." Jack stirred the pot with a grin. "Check the nameplate outside. It reads 'The Overlands.'"
She leaned against the counter, eyeing him with an amused smirk. "I'm still having a hard time believing you're rich."
Jack, sensing the question was coming, turned to her with a calm, warm gaze. "Have you heard of the company Frost?" he asked, the weight of his words sinking in.
"Yes," she said, her eyes squinted. "It's a huge, global corporation. But the owner…is unknown?" She blinked, then pointed at him, gasping, "Don't…don't tell me it's you."
With a mischievous smile, Jack jokingly bowed. "Jackson Frost Overland, at your servicy Your Majesty."
Elsa froze, her heart racing as she tried to process his words. "Wait…Frost is your…middle name?!" She felt a mix of disbelief and awe, as if the weight of it hadn't quite hit her yet. She needed more answers. "But what about The Overland's company and that app you mentioned?"
Jack's expression softened, and he took a deep breath. "Those are my mom's. She runs them now. Yes, I started them, but they wouldn't have made it without her. So, everything they earn goes to her." He raised his finger, revealing the last piece of the puzzle. "But I am the owner of Frost. I just keep myself incognito for the other businesses. I don't like fame, the paparazzi…all of that. It's just too much for me."
Elsa blinked, the shock overwhelming her. She sat down, her face a mask of disbelief. "I can't believe I married the owner of Frost. Tell me it's not true, please tell me! Why did you tell me all of this?! How can you trust me with these…these secrets?!"
Jack knelt down beside her, his expression earnest and full of affection. "Woah, woah, Elsa, breathe. It's not that big. I told you because you're my wife."
She snapped her fingers in frustration. "But…what about your mechanical engineering job?"
Jack tilted his head, amused. "Well, yes, I am one. I went to university for it."
Her confusion only deepened. "Jack, that's…that's not the point! I'll take those secrets to my grave, but we aren't even that close yet. We need to go back to Berk and figure out what to do next." She fidgeted, her hands sweaty from nervousness as she pointed back and forth between them.
He creased his brows in concern and gently took her hands in his. "I trust you with all my life. I don't need a reason to do that. I trust you because it's you." He touched the wedding ring on her finger, his voice soft but firm. "And I'm not letting go of you, Elsa. You're stuck with me." He let out a deep breath. "I know we're doing this…backward. But-" He paused, standing up, suddenly serious.
Elsa, still reeling from the weight of his words, stood up too. "But what?"
He took a deep breath, laying his heart bare. "Would you like to go on a date with me?" His eyes were full of sincerity, his voice warm and inviting. "I've liked you since the moment I saw you. And every second of these last two days, I've liked you more. I know it's fast, but it's how I feel. I'm asking you, please, consider going out with me. I'm a gentleman, and that's how I've been raised, to respect women, to care for them, to cherish them. I want to make this work. I know it's worth it. And I'll do my very best to never let a tear fall from your eye. That's my promise as a gentleman." He touched her cheek gently, his heart pounding, hoping she'd say yes.
Elsa's lips parted, and then, suddenly, she burst out laughing, her eyes sparkling. "Jack, you didn't have to say all that, and I'm not going to lie, it's a little cringe."
Offended, Jack pushed her lightly. "Hey, don't disrespect my confession," he said with a grin, though his cheeks were flushed.
"Okay, okay," Elsa laughed, brushing her nose against his. "Yes, Mr. Frost, I'll go out with you. I think I might not dislike you."
Jack's eyes lit up, and he leaned forward, his voice barely above a whisper. "You don't say."
Before he could say anything else, she reached up and pulled him in by the strings of his hoodie, bringing their lips together in a kiss that left them both breathless. It was brief, but it was filled with all the affection and adoration they'd built up in these past days.
Pulling away slightly, Jack smirked. "Now I know why you chose this hoodie. You just wanted to pull me in for a kiss, didn't you? Well, I'm not complaining."
Elsa smiled, her hands resting on his chest as she leaned into him. "Well, maybe…you never know."
He chuckled, wrapping his arms around her, resting his head near her ear. "So, I'm dating my wife, and you're dating your husband, huh?"
She whispered in his ear, her words sending shivers down his spine. "Yes, I'm sure."
"Sweet!" They reluctantly let go of each other when the sound of the macaroni and cheese cooking on the stove reached their ears. "Oh, looks like the mac n' cheese is ready. It smells amazing," Jack said, blowing air over the spatula before holding it near her lips. "Here, try some."
Elsa took a bite, her eyes widening in surprise. "Wow, Jack, this is incredible. You can cook too? Is there anything you can't do?"
He grabbed a napkin and gently dabbed the corner of her lips. "Thank you! Well, yes, there are things I can't do. I can't rollerblade, and I've never been on a ride because I'm terrified of them, I can't sk-" He was counting on his fingers, giving her a sheepish look.
"Wait, you don't like rides? Oh my God, Jack! I love rollerblading and going on rides! You just made me so happy!" Elsa squealed inside, her inner child coming out. She beamed at him like she'd just gotten a puppy.
Jack couldn't help but smile at her excitement. "If you really want to, I'll go with you." He raised an eyebrow, teasing her. "But if I end up crying on any of the rides, you cannot, and I repeat, can not take pictures of me."
Elsa poked his side and snickered. "I hope you'll say yes to my question. But can I at least tell my friends. Please, please, please."
He rolled his eyes, unable to resist her. "Alright, alright, you can tell people. But you have to promise not to make it public knowledge."
"Perfect!" She kissed him quickly on the lips as if it was the most natural thing in the world, then suddenly remembered. "Wait, we were making lunch! Jack, take the mac n' cheese off the stove, and check on the Blueberry French Toast. I think it's almost ready. I'll make the smoothies."
Jack froze mid-action, looking at her with confusion. "Wait, how do you know those are my favorites? I didn't even know you were making the toasts!"
Elsa shrugged casually as she plated the French toast. "I asked Sebastian."
"Aww, look at you caring for your husband." Jack teased but quickly shifted gears. "Speaking of husband…where's Loki?" He added confused "I mean he's a husband too."
The sound of the blender filled the room, and Elsa had to shout over it. "He's watering the garden and then running errands! And for the love of God, Jack, stop calling him Loki! He's almost sixty!"
Jack held up his hands defensively. "What? It's a funny name, and believe me, he loves it. I've been calling him that for years. If he didn't like it, I wouldn't do it."
Elsa poured the strawberry smoothie into two glasses, the fresh fruit scent filling the air. She handed one to him with a smile. "I'll admit, it is a funny name. But of course, I know you're a sweet guy, Jack. You never would've hurt anyone. And even though we've only known each other for two days, and, well, accidentally got married, you could've run away, or gotten angry, but instead, your first instinct was to put me at ease. You brought me here, even if it was awkward. So, you don't need to say anything, Jack. I already know."
He kissed her softly, wrapping an arm around her waist, his eyes full of affection. "Do you know how gorgeous and kind-hearted you are?" he asked, gazing into her eyes. "Every second I spend with you, I fall more in love with you, Elsa." He didn't hesitate, pouring his heart out. "I love you, Elsa. I know it's been two days, but I love you. God, I love you."
Elsa's chest tightened, and she pulled away slightly. She looked at him with a soft, apologetic smile. "Thank you, Jack. I appreciate your love, I really do, but…I'm not there yet. I like you, I guess. But I can't say I love you yet. Or well ever." This just wasn't her. Would he leave her because of this?
Jack took a long sip of his smoothie but held her close, his voice warm and reassuring. "It's alright. I'll wait as long as it takes. The fact that you like me is more than enough for me. And I'll tell you one thing, this smoothie is the best thing I've ever had!"
Elsa rolled her eyes, knowing full well the smoothie wasn't the star of the show. "You're just saying that."
They sat down at the table, their lunch laid out before them in all its delicious glory.
"Jack, you know you're my first kiss, right?" Elsa asked, her voice quiet but filled with meaning.
He smiled, taking her hand in his. "And you're mine, Elsa."
They shared a quiet moment, their connection deepening. Jack had already fallen for her. Elsa, however, was starting to feel something for him. She wasn't quite there yet, but she was getting closer.
