Chance Meetings
Chapter 44
by Remtar85
"Honestly, when Rich spoke up about the cat gargoyle with brown fur, we really couldn't believe our luck," Lou said casually, kicking a downed Fang on the side. "We knew it was you and we just had to tag along."
"Even luckier when you got away from the others and bumped into us downstairs. We were hoping you'd give 'em the slip and we could run into you, so thanks for that," Chaz said, holding his hammer upside down and slamming the side of Fang's face with it. The mutate grunted in pain, spitting blood.
The mutate chastised himself for his current predicament. He had been too trusting, too naive, taking the words and actions of his former cronies to heart. He thought that they'd do right by him, since they had been by his side down in the Labyrinth, bullying others, extorting whatever they could, and even trying to take over the whole place, on top of how they guided him and Daniel away from the building as the Quarrymen gave chase. Only now did he realize he had been foolish to trust them, especially since, at the end of the day, they were still Quarrymen. He was so desperate to get away that he became blinded to their true intentions. But even so, even though he was down, dazed, injured and scared, he still wanted a direct answer from them.
"Why're you doing this?" Fang managed to groan out in pain.
"Oh, this is rich," Lou said in a disdainful voice, his smirk fading. And then he brought his hammer down on Fang's right shoulder, making the mutant cry out in pain as he felt his shoulder dislocate, then Lou screamed even louder. "You even have to ask, you dumb fuck?!"
"It's as simple as you treated us like shit all the damn time, asshole!" Chaz shouted too, striking with his hammer and hitting Fang's back. The mutate continued to cry out in pain, and he brought his hand up, ready to shoot electricity at his attackers, but Lou cut that short by kicking the cougar-man in the face.
"Nothing we ever did was good enough!" Lou ranted. "Always screamin' at us, always insultin' us, always snappin' at us like you'd snap at a dog that took a shit on the carpet! And then your big plan to take over the Labyrinth bombed and we ended up homeless again!"
"But then we met Castaway and joined the Quarrymen," Chaz continued, kicking at Fang's stomach, then at his face to keep him down. "We were rarin' for some payback on those gargoyles, but especially on you."
"It's the reason we've never told any of the other Quarrymen about the Labyrinth," Lou said, smirking again. "We'd been hoping to sneak down there and take you out ourselves."
"And it feels so damn good to finally be kickin' your ass," Chaz said, a very pleased grin on his face as he brandished his hammer. "We really wanna take our time before we kill you."
Lou grinned wide as Fang continued to barely be able to drag himself away. "How about we break your hands first so you won't use your damn electriAAAAAHHH!"
Everyone was taken by surprise as Lou stopped talking and screamed in pain. And then all eyes shifted to Lou's left leg, which Daniel now clung to, biting the Quarryman's thigh. Lou dropped his sledgehammer and tried yanking Daniel off, but the boy was biting down so hard that it was difficult to remove him, and could have probably even torn off the skin on Lou's thigh if the Quarryman tried yanking him off. So Lou reacted by swinging a fist, hitting Daniel on the side of the head. The boy cried out in pain and fell down to the ground.
"You little shit!" Lou screamed furiously, about to strike the boy again.
He didn't have a chance to, however, as Fang snarled and shot him in the back with electricity, sending him flying a few feet straight to the ground. Chaz retaliated quickly, and before Fang could zap him as well, the larger of the two Quarrymen quickly swung his electrified hammer down. Fang tried to roll out of the way, but he wasn't fast enough and the hammer still managed to hit him in one of his legs, right on his left thigh. The cougar-man screamed in pain and instinctively clutched his leg, hoping in the back of his mind that no bones had been broken.
"Stop! Don't hurt him!" Daniel screamed at Chaz, standing up and looking around for something, anything, he could use as a weapon against the Quarryman. Unfortunately, he couldn't find anything, and before he could react, Chaz walked over quickly, putting his hammer down and grabbing the boy by both arms, lifting him up.
"Get out of our way, kid, or we're gonna hafta put the hurt on ya too," Chaz threatened the boy, while nearby, Lou stirred and groaned.
Daniel looked intimidated and scared, but only for about two seconds, as he then glared back at the Quarryman. "Back off from my dad, asshole!" Daniel snapped and cursed, the latter being a very rare thing for him, but right now he was too angry to care. He then showed the Quarryman why he made a mistake grabbing and lifting him up like that, as Daniel kicked Chaz in his privates, causing Chaz to cry out in pain and drop Daniel.
Now free and with Chaz down on his knees in pain, Daniel rushed over to his father, who was still whimpering in agony as well. "Dad! We gotta get you out of here!"
"I'm trying," Fang groaned, attempting to stand up, using his one good hand and arm, while the other just dangled there due to the dislocated shoulder. "I thought you went to go find your mom."
"I did, but then I thought I'd come back to check on you, just in case," Daniel told his father, trying to help him up. "I wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Thanks, Daniel," Fang said, finally on his feet, and he started hobbling away. "Quick, grab my stuff and let's go before they get back up!"
Daniel said nothing, simply nodding in understanding. He grabbed his father's fallen gym bag and followed after the mutate, who was limping away as fast as he could. But the sound of a laser blast followed immediately by Fang's shout of pain interrupted their escape, as the mutate collapsed. Seated on the ground and with a fierce frown on his face, Lou had drawn his blaster and shot a laser at Fang's back. The mutate lay on the ground, growling and grunting in pain and frustration, trying to get up.
"Dad!" Daniel cried, immediately trying to help his father back to his feet, but the cougar-man was too heavy.
"Get help!" Fang whimpered. "Go get Elisa!"
"But what if I can't find her in time with all that mess back at the building? They could kill you before I get back here with her!"
Fang knew that Daniel was right, and there was nothing he could do about it. As Lou got himself up and went to help Chaz get to his feet and collect their sledgehammers, Fang tried to pick himself up, Daniel fruitlessly trying to drag him, the father and son looking into one another's eyes and seeing only panic and desperation. Fang then tried turning to see if he could shoot more electricity at the Quarrymen but as he did so, Lou shot him in the shoulder, eliciting another loud scream of pain from the mutate. Lou then helped Chaz go his feet and they both loomed closer and closer to the frightened father and son.
"Stop!" Daniel screamed.
"Beat it, brat!" Chaz snarled at the boy, picking him up and throwing him towards several trash cans lined up side by side; Daniel screamed again and groaned in pain as he slammed onto the trash cans and then the ground.
"He's just a kid, you sick fuck!" Fang snarled and swiped at Chaz with his claws, slicing his leg. Chaz screamed in pain and Lou immediately intervened, kicking Fang in the face once more, the mutate now sprawled flat on his back.
"That's it, you're through!" Lou snapped, holding his hammer upside down now; he turned the electricity back on, then started to bring it down onto Fang's torso, again and again.
A furious Chaz joined him, both of them now beating Fang down. "You're dead!" he shouted at the mutate. "But before we kill you, I'm gonna beat your kid to a pulp and make you watch!"
Fang could do nothing but scream in pain. He could see no way out of this. He was out of options, out of ways to defend himself. He despaired as he saw his luck having run out, how he was going to die at the hands of Lou and Chaz, of all people. But even amidst his despair, pain, and fear for his life, Chaz's threat now took root in Fang's mind. Not only were these two inflicting great pain upon him with intent to kill, but now they were going to harm his son, and would force him to watch without him being able to do anything about it. This brought another emotion into Fang-that of pure, unbridled rage at these men trying to kill him and trying to harm his son.
And while the two Quarrymen kept pummeling him, Fang's screams of pain stopped. His eyes went white, as they often did when he was enraged, and he sat up suddenly and quickly, startling the two Quarrymen into stopping their beatdown as the mutate glared at them with those shining white eyes. Fang could feel himself start to lose control once more, the feral side of his mutation starting to take over as it had done a few times before. But something else was happening, and Fang felt a strong surge of electricity coursing through his whole body. The electricity started to surge outward from his body; his arms, hands, legs, feet, and much to Chaz and Lou's consternation, even his eyes and open mouth, and a strong, crackly electric noise reached all their ears.
"Back. Off. My son," Fang growled in a deep voice, mingled with that potent crackling sound as more electricity flowed out of his whole body.
"What the fuck?" Lou mumbled as he and Chaz were startled at witnessing this; they had never seen Fang display so much electricity when using his power.
Chaz shook his head and spoke to Lou, though still glaring warily at Fang. "I think we oughta..."
But Chaz could not finish his sentence. Because Fang suddenly emitted a piercing sound, a mix of a scream and a roar, very much like the scream gargoyles made when they were enraged and went on the attack. And then Fang's electricity surged out like never before. It came out of every part of his body, like a large wave spreading in all directions, reaching a good two meters of distance from the mutate. Being so close to him, Lou and Chaz got caught up in it. They were seemingly held in place for a mere moment, the electricity engulfing their bodies-then they were repelled, flung several meters away, knocked unconscious by the rough landing and the sheer amount of electricity; their uniforms were damaged and their skin had some electric burns on them. The large amount of electricity pouring out of Fang's body started subsiding rapidly, until no more came out; his screaming roar now silenced as well, the mutate collapsed back onto the ground.
Daniel, who had been picking himself up from where he was thrown by Chaz, looked utterly stunned at what he had just witnessed. Fortunately, he had been out of reach of that electric surge. He finally got back on his feet and went over to his father, kneeling beside him, and the boy almost broke down upon witnessing all the bruises on his father that were noticeable even through his fur, as well as the burn marks from the lasers that had hit him, and the blood that stained his snout. Daniel reached and gently patted one of Fang's cheeks.
"Dad? Dad? Wake up, Dad. We gotta get you out of here! Please wake up..."
Other than slow breathing, Fang was still and had no reaction, but a few moments later, he stirred and groaned. He opened his eyes slowly and recognized Daniel's worried face even though it was all blurry. He could hear the worry and then the relief in Daniel's voice as he opened his eyes, but for a moment, he couldn't make out what his son was saying. As the world started to come into better focus, Fang felt the pain starting to come back to his senses, and he groaned once more.
"What the hell did I just do?" Fang asked.
"Those two were beating you up real bad after the big one threw me to those trash cans," Daniel explained. "And then they threatened to beat me up and make you watch, but then you roared and electricity came out of your whole body. Even your eyes and mouth! And you made this big sorta electric dome or something, just electricity going in every direction, and you zapped them away. I don't think they'll be waking up for a while, but I bet they'll be hurting a lot when they do."
"Really? I was so damn angry, I barely even noticed what I did," Fang said, breathing slowly and still wincing in pain. "At least those two are out of it. But what about you? Are you hurt?"
Daniel shook his head as he saw a few scrapes on his arms from hitting the trash cans and pavement; they stung, but he could handle it. "No, I'm okay. But other Quarrymen could come here any second now. We gotta get you away from here!"
Fang nodded slightly, then tried to pick himself up. He grunted in pain and effort as he tried to at least sit up, and Daniel immediately helped him. The boy was small for his age and not athletic, plus his father was heavy as it was on top of having his right shoulder dislocated, so it took a few moments for them to get Fang into a sitting position, and resting his back against a nearby dumpster.
"Daniel, I don't think I'll be goin' anywhere anytime soon," Fang said. "It's not just how bad I got beat up, but I think that that electric blast thing drained me dry. My electricity's what helps me fly, and right now I can barely even sit up."
"Maybe you can wrap your wings around you?" Daniel suggested. "Make it appear like you're another trash bag, while I go see if I can find Detective Maza."
"I'll try to not feel insulted by that," Fang joked with a weak laugh, followed by a groan of pain.
Daniel nodded and stood to leave. "Okay, cover yourself up and... oh no..."
A feeling of dread overcame Fang again when he saw Daniel pause as he was about to walk away, looking down the alley once more. Turning his head, Fang saw the very last thing he wanted to see; another Quarryman stood near the entrance to the alley. By the looks of the physique, this one was a woman, and Fang tensed up. The image of Megan instantly jumped to his mind, because he knew she wouldn't hesitate to bash his head in. But before he could do or say anything, Daniel reacted, running towards the fallen Chaz and Lou; he reached into the holster of Lou's laser gun, only to realize the weapon looked damaged from Fang's incredibly strong electric blast.
But upon seeing the boy trying to arm himself to defend the cougar-man, the Quarrywoman put down her hammer. "Wait, hold on! I won't hurt you!" she cried out. Fang instantly recognized the woman as not Megan, due to having a different voice, but this didn't make him feel any relief.
"I don't believe you!" Daniel replied, looking now to Chaz's laser gun, which was just as damaged as Lou's, both he and Fang quite panicked now.
The woman then proceeded to surprise them both when she also took her laser gun out of her holster and set it down on the ground next to her sledgehammer, then walked closer to the mutate and child, leaving her weapons behind. She then reached up and removed the hood from her head, revealing a blond haired woman, and despite not having her glasses on, Daniel instantly recognized her.
"You're Billy and Susan's mom," the boy said.
"I am," she said, nodding her head. "Sarah Browne. I saw you on the street, coming towards the building in your pajamas. I remembered you from school, and when you stopped, turned back and went into the alley, I followed to make sure you were okay."
Fang grunted as he shifted slightly where he sat. "Yeah, I remember you from that Friday at the school, too. Didn't picture you being with the Quarrymen, though."
"Please don't hurt him," Daniel immediately pleaded, putting himself between the injured mutate and the woman. "He's not a bad guy, I swear!"
"I won't hurt him, I promise," Sarah assured the boy. "I saw everything. How those two threw you to the trash and threatened to beat you, and how he wanted to protect you."
"Really?" a surprised Daniel asked. "You believe me?"
Sarah nodded. "I do. But I'm so confused," she said, now looking directly at Fang. "Like that electricity that came out of you, and how you were at school during the daytime. How can that be possible? We've never seen or heard of any gargoyle able to do those things."
"It's 'cause I'm not a gargoyle," Fang said with a weary sigh.
"My dad's a mutant," Daniel added. "A crazy scientist did that to him."
"A mutant... wait, you mean a mutate. Of course, that would make sense. Just like Wolf, from The Pack," Sarah said, then she noticed the reaction of mutate and child to her words; Daniel looked surprised, while Fang looked utterly flabbergasted. "What?"
Fang sighed and looked up at the night sky. "Thank you, God! Finally, a believer!" he exclaimed, then looked back at the woman. "Lady, I could hug you!"
"People normally don't believe Dad about being a mutant because he looks just like a gargoyle," a now relieved Daniel said.
"This is unbelievable," Sarah said. "Wolf, Jackal and Hyena being changed the way they were by some crazy back alley scientist was big news, just something completely unprecedented. But you have wings, and can shoot electricity. My God, what did that awful man do to you?"
"It's tough, not gonna lie, what with needing to find places to stay hidden and all," Fang said, extremely glad to have finally found someone who believed him from the start that he was not a gargoyle, and adding a bit of a white lie in there to gather further sympathy from her. "But I tough it out, for my son here. He's worth it."
Sarah looked at Fang, then at Daniel, then back at Fang. And then she took a walkie-talkie from her belt and spoke into it. "This is number eleven. I'm searching the vicinity but can't find any signs of the gargoyle. I'll keep searching and will be in touch. Over and out."
"Thank you, Mrs. Browne," Daniel said with a smile.
"You're welcome. I can't let the other Quarrymen hurt your dad. He's already hurt more than enough as it is," she said to Daniel, then turned to speak to Fang as she walked over to him. "We have to get you out of here before anyone else can come by and find you. But I don't think I can carry you out of here."
"Yeah, I know," Fang grunted, trying and failing to get up. "But I got an idea. If it works, I might be able to get away by myself. I need you to go get your hammer, light it up and touch me with it."
"What?" she asked, stunned.
Daniel also looked concerned. "Dad, why?"
"Because it's my electricity that gives me the energy to fly, and now I can't even get up and walk away," Fang explained, looking over at where Sarah had left her sledgehammer. "But if I get electrocuted by that hammer, I dunno, maybe my body'll absorb enough of that electricity to give me enough energy to get away from here."
"But what if it hurts you?" Daniel asked.
Sarah nodded. "He's right. This could be dangerous. Maybe..."
"Look, I'm worried too, but there's no time and no other choice!" Fang interrupted. "We need to do this, and we need to do it now, or those Quarrymen'll find me and bash my head in!"
Both Sarah and Daniel hesitated for a moment. But with a nod of her head, Sarah quickly went over, picked up her sledgehammer and made her way back, while Daniel went to grab his father's gym bag, holding on to it for him, and stood a couple of feet behind Sarah. The woman turned the sledgehammer upside down, holding the hammerhead downwards, then she pressed it against Fang's chest firmly and waited for the mutate's signal. Fang looked quite nervous, but he took a deep breath and did his best to brace himself for what would now happen.
"Zap me until I say so."
Nodding, Sarah complied, and she clicked the hammer on. Instantly a potent surge of electricity sparked from the hammer, and Fang grunted out loud. His back arched, his teeth gritted together and his eyes shut tight as he felt electricity coursing through him. It would not have been as bad had it not been from the combined efforts of Chaz, Lou and Richard delivering many injuries and a brutal beatdown on Fang; he was already in pain, and this electrocution was only exacerbating that pain. Daniel winced, and Sarah was clearly uncomfortable with what she was doing, but the electrocution continued. However, after around twenty seconds or so, the two humans noticed electricity now surging through the mutate's arms, and after a few more moments, Fang shouted out loud.
"STOP!"
Sarah immediately lifted the hammer away from Fang, turning it off. "Did it work?"
Fang was shaking a bit, and grunted, clearly still in pain. Nevertheless, he managed to pick himself up from where he sat, electricity still visibly coursing through his arms a bit. He gestured with a finger for Sarah and Daniel to wait a moment; then he stooped a bit and suddenly charged and smashed his shoulder against the dumpster, grunting even louder now, before standing up straight.
"What was that all about, Dad?" a confused and distressed Daniel asked.
"Putting my dislocated shoulder back in place," Fang explained, still wincing from the pain. "Little trick Derek showed me and the others when we were out in the woods on our own, after he got mutated and we took off."
"Oh," Daniel uttered, then handed over the bag to his father after the mutate extended his hand for it.
"Nice skill to have," Sarah commented. "You better leave while you can. I'll go with your son back to the building so he can meet up with his mother."
"Yeah. Thanks for looking out for him, and for helping me out," Fang said, looking down at Daniel and reaching to gently squeeze one of his shoulders. "Don't worry about me, Danny Boy. I'll hide out and see you again when I can, but I better head out before this shock adrenaline wears off."
Daniel nodded, trying his best to look strong for his dad, but it was clear that the sight of the badly beaten up mutate affected the boy. Fang pulled his son into a gentle hug to his side so he wouldn't have to kneel or lean down, considering how injured he was. It lasted for a few seconds, then Fang pulled away with a little lop-sided smile.
"Love you, kiddo. Take care now," he said, looking now at Sarah as he started walking away. "Please take good care of him."
"I will," Sarah said, and the mutate limped away as fast as he could down the alley, folding his wings around him to better conceal himself, until finally he was out of sight, and Sarah sighed and spoke again. "Thank goodness. I can't believe that shocking him like that worked."
"Yeah," Daniel said with a nod, then looked up at the woman. "Thanks for helping my dad. And for believing that he's not a gargoyle."
"You're welcome," Sarah said, looking back to the direction where Fang had scampered away. "I hope he can find a good place to hide and recover."
"I hope so too, but I know he will," Daniel said, still looking tense. "My dad's pretty smart."
Sarah looked back down at the boy. "And you're a brave boy, trying to fight off those two to get them away from your dad. I'm sorry for asking, but I'm curious... has it been difficult? I mean, to get used to your father being mutated and having to continue life like that."
"Well, the difficult thing's been keeping him hidden," Daniel replied. "After he got mutated, he stayed away for a while, because he didn't want to scare us. But then he came back, and he stayed with me for some time. But now he's found a place to stay where he can be safe. Other than that, I don't care what he looks like. He's still my dad, and he's awesome, and I love him."
"Your parents definitely raised you right," Sarah said with a smile. "Anyway, we should go for now. We'll look for your mother and see if you can get those scrapes disinfec..."
But Sarah couldn't finish her sentence, because out of nowhere, a large figure dropped from above and landed next to them. They saw nothing but a blur of color, and suddenly Daniel yelped as he was yanked off his feet, the large yet very agile individual jumping back several feet and away from Sarah, who gasped and flinched as she was startled. Sarah then reacted, turning the electricity on her sledgehammer back on and assuming an attack position as she got a clear look at who yanked the boy away from her.
"Back off, lady," Broadway said in a menacing tone, his eyes glowing a bright white.
Sarah looked frightened for a moment, but then she got a determined and fierce look in her eyes. "Put that boy down, monster, or I'll put you down."
Before either side could make any more threats or statements, Daniel instantly interjected in a loud and firm voice. "No, no, stop, both of you! We're NOT doing this!"
Both sides were stunned enough at the boy's tone that their attention turned to him instead, as Broadway continued to hold him up protectively. Daniel sighed and gently but firmly shoved off Broadway, and the gargoyle caught the message and set the boy down. Now back on his feet, Daniel spoke again.
"Broadway, that's Mrs. Sarah Browne, the mom of two kids from my school. She believed us about Dad being a mutant and she helped him out," Daniel told the gargoyle, then turned towards the woman. "Mrs. Browne, this is Broadway. He's my friend, and no, he's not a monster. The Quarrymen are all wrong about that."
"You're friends?" Sarah asked in disbelief. "But it's a gargoyle. It could-"
"He, not it. Broadway's not some animal, and he's not a bad guy," Daniel interrupted. "Yeah, there's a couple of bad ones out there, but most gargoyles are good. And they protect people, because that's their natural instinct."
"He's right," a now calm Broadway said, smiling at the boy, but his smile faded as he saw the scrapes on Daniel's arms. "Daniel, you're hurt."
Daniel nodded. "Yeah, but it's not bad. It's because those two threw me to the trash cans."
Broadway frowned and walked over to Chaz and Lou. Sarah got into a position to be ready to attack him, but Daniel quickly put himself in-between her and his gargoyle friend, which made her stop. Broadway inspected the two unconscious men, then turned back to Daniel.
"Hey, I remember these two jerks," he said. "I take it your dad did this?"
"Yeah, he did, while they were beating him up and saying they were gonna beat me up too," Daniel replied, then pointed to Sarah. "Mrs. Browne saw and heard it happen."
Broadway's attention turned back to the woman. "You're gonna turn them over to the police then, right?"
"I... I... what is going on?" Sarah stammered, clearly trying to wrap her head around the situation. "You're a gargoyle. You're monsters, you hurt people, you... you..."
"You didn't expect me to be so eloquent?" Broadway asked in a calm tone, and he couldn't help smiling a bit when he said that.
"Wait, what? That has nothing to do with anything!" Sarah exclaimed.
"Actually, it does, because if I was a monster, I wouldn't be eloquent, which means I wouldn't be talking to you," Broadway pointed out. "I'd just be some savage beast, attacking people without a care. But that's not what we are."
"And if he wanted to attack you, he could've done it," Daniel added. "Instead, he grabbed me and moved me away from you because he thought I was in danger."
"Exactly," Broadway agreed.
"He could have been planning to kidnap you," Sarah protested.
"But he and I have hung out a bunch of times, and I've hung out with other gargoyles a lot, too," Daniel said. "If he wanted to kidnap me, he had a lot of chances. But he never did anything bad to me, because he's not a bad guy."
"Plus, we have other human friends, mostly adults," Broadway added. "There's almost always someone around. And even if there wasn't, we'd never do anything to hurt innocent people."
"I... I just..." Sarah stammered. "This is too much to take in... I don't know what to believe."
"Mrs. Browne, we don't really have a lot of human friends, especially with Quarrymen out there trying to make us look like we crawled straight out of hell," Broadway said amicably. "But if you could at least give us gargoyles a chance to show you that we're not evil monsters, I'd really appreciate that. And so would all my friends, both gargoyle and human."
"I'd definitely appreciate it," Daniel added.
Sarah didn't say anything, so Broadway was about to speak again, but his facial expression changed, looking a bit alarmed. "Someone's coming, I hear them. I gotta go," he told them, then looked at both humans. "Take care, Daniel. And Mrs. Browne, please think about what I just said."
And with that said, Broadway ran in the same direction Fang had run off to, to get out of sight much quicker than by scaling the building. A couple of seconds later, two policemen came into the alley. Naturally, the scene that they found, especially with the unconscious and badly electrocuted Chaz and Lou, left the police officers pretty surprised. Daniel immediately explained that his "gargoyle friend" was trying to keep him safe when the two unconscious Quarrymen attacked them and were rough on him for trying to get in their way.
When asked about why they were so badly electrocuted, Daniel said that his gargoyle friend had a very strong taser or stun gun hidden in his bag and used it against them before getting away. Of course, Daniel was waiting to see what Sarah would say, and to his immense relief, she backed up his claims. While he wasn't sure if Sarah would give gargoyles a chance based on what had just happened with Broadway, he was glad that the woman still stood up for him and covered up for Fang.
As the officers called in for a few of their colleagues to help cart off Chaz and Lou, one of them told Daniel that he'd escort him back to his building, and Sarah followed as well. Out in the streets, it was a commotion. There were four or five patrol cars, as well as two ambulances, and plenty of policemen and other people out and about, mostly curious neighbors from the apartment building and others in the vicinity. Daniel looked at everything with the feel of a big, heavy weight in his stomach; all of this mayhem, and only because his father simply wanted to spend time with him. After so long of managing to keep Fang hidden till he found a place of his own, Daniel couldn't have imagined that it would be after the mutate had his own home and simply dropped by one night to visit that everything would come crumbling down.
He then spotted his mother looking very frazzled at the bottom of the steps to go to the apartment building's main entrance, accompanied by Elisa Maza. Daniel sighed and headed over to reunite with his mother, dreading immensely that he knew they were about to start dealing with the repercussions of what had just happened. And it would not be easy in the slightest.
To Be Continued...
Author's Extra Note: Hello, dear readers. Sorry for the long wait in posting more chapters. Not only do I have my usual responsibilities of my family needing me and the usual chores, errands and the like, but my job also upped my weekly work hours, meaning a bit more money but a lot less time for myself. And I have so much I want to do and need to get done that I tend to have very little time for writing in general, and that's not counting the occasional bout of writer's block. Still, I'm trying my best and now I give you a new chapter!
I felt this was a good moment to have Sarah make a reappearance in the story, especially as I felt tempted to show things from the perspective of an outsider, someone who doesn't know what gargoyles truly are like and just judges them based on appearances. Also, I've been imagining for years that the mutates could do more with their electricity. I have been showing bits of it with Fang as he explores more of his power throughout the story, and this big electric blast emanating from his whole body is one I thought would look awesome. I was inspired by Miles Morales, who we've seen do it in his video game, but he also has done it in the comic books, long before his video game. I hope you all liked it! But of course, this whole situation's not over yet. It'll continue next chapter, so stay tuned, and once more, thanks for reading!
