The Storm:
Summer Sea:
Theon Greyjoy stood on the deck on the Spearhead as the fleet sailed through the Summer Sea. The island of Stros M'kai had been located halfway between the Summer Islands and Essos so it left the island in a good trading spot between the major trading posts of all the major land masses which is why it had also made it a good spot for a pirate haven since it was far away from any land to make sending a fleet worthwhile. Now Captain Kaleen had been made the new lord of Stros M'kai and had vowed to return the island back to their old ways of life. The fleet was sailing towards the Arbor where they planned to confront Euron's Iron Fleet. This time they would not be caught off guard and the ships Kaleen used were well made warships than just ships hastily put together by the Ironborn due to their lack of resources.
Theon stared at his metal hand that replaced the one he had lost when Euron ambushed them. It had been made by Kaleen's friend Nermao, an expert of the Ancient Dwemer designs who had used old schematics to design the hand so it could move like a real hand though it was still difficult to get use to it since it would sometimes get stuck in one position. Theon hoped that it would not cause any trouble in the upcoming fight.
"This is it Theon." Kaleen said as she walked up to him "This is our big fight and this time, we'll be ready for him, we won't walk into an ambush like last time, our lookouts have a good view of the horizon."
"Euron is still an expert raider." Theon replied
"Yes, a raider, not a fighter." Kaleen stated "There is a major difference between being a successful admiral and captain than being a simple raider and pirate. I heard about the Greyjoy rebellion, the first success was raiding the Lannister fleet but you caught them by surprise while they were in dock. When it came to a proper navel fight, the Iron Fleet was decimated at Fair Island. When Euron ambushed your fleet before, you still had Ironborn longships, not warships like we do now. The best Euron has will probably be his flagship, the Silence."
"That ship will be a danger." Theon warned "It has a powerful ram and a walkway to board ships easily, watch out for it."
"Nermao had been coming to with designs to combat them." Kaleen stated "We have proper distance weapons, Euron still relies on boarding, we don't." She then looked to the horizon and saw dark clouds forming "Seems like a storm's approaching, we'll be fighting in a storm if my calculations are right, this could be a sign."
"A sign from what?"
"A sign from Kyre, I may worship the Yokuda pathogen but I still hold some of the Ancient Nord customs, Kyre or Kynareth as the Nine Divines know her as is the God of nature and weather, Storms are seen as a sign from her as a favour. Our ships are built to withstand a storm, the Ironborn ships are not as much. Kyre must have our favour."
Theon sure hoped that Kaleen was right. Storms could be dangerous to ships as he had heard many tales of ships sailing into storms which then broke them apart. Lord Steffon Baratheon and his wife, the parents of King Robert Baratheon had both been killed when a storm destroyed their ship in Shipbreaker Bay off the coast of the Stormlands. Theon sure hoped that their fleet would not share the same fate otherwise there would be no one to stand against Euron's fleet.
Oldtown Docks:
Euron Greyjoy smirked as he stood on the deck of the Silence, his personal flagship. He had been warned that his brother and nephew had both managed to gather a fleet and were sailing towards Oldtown so Mankar had ordered his to sail out there to destroy it.
"Seems we'll be fighting in a storm." Euron laughed as he looked at Mankar "They say that I lost my mind in a storm and that my crew had to tie me to the mast to prevent me from jumping overboard and as a reward, I cut out their tongues."
"I really don't care about what happened in a storm." Mankar sighed "All I care about is that you stop your brother, I already have enough trouble with that stupid brat of a beggar prince being reckless."
"I've sailed through many storms, I can manage a battle in one." Euron laughed "I really couldn't care less about wheather the Drowned God or the Storm God is angry at me, I slaughtered all their Priests just like my brother." He walked over to the Prow of the ship where Aeron's body was tied "He seems even more like a drowned man like this. I wonder what he feels like the Drowned Halls are like, is he feasting down there or is it just a watery hole." He then looked at the body of his former Mistress Falla Flowers "And the whore, I mean come on, I really didn't care about her, I love to play with my prey."
"Yes I get it." Mankar sighed "Just destroy this fleet and get back here."
"Aye I will." Euron laughed "I have to say, it would have been better if Viserys and his dragon could have come, that dragon would have destroyed the fleet quicker than I could have."
"Viserys is in on a mission of upmost importance." Mankar stated "I'll have Isolde have the best celebration ready for you when you return."
"My lords will love that. You will have to do quite a lot to outdo everything I've already done for them." Euron stated
"Well you'll just have to see." Mankar replied "I've got to get everything ready for the ritual, when you get back, it should be ready for our main weapon to come to us."
"I look forward to it." Euron said back and Mankar used his teleportation powers to disappear from the deck and within the hour, Euron's fleet was sailing away from Oldtown.
Raven Rock: Solstheim:
Jon and the others walked blow the Bulwerk, the large wall that surrounded the eastern part of Raven Rock. This was a large stone wall constructed to protect Raven Rock from any attacks. The north of the town was protected by a rock formation called Basalt formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. Because the city was also built on the corner of the island, the western side of the land usually flooded preventing attacks from the west, only the eastern side was vulnerable hence why the Wall had been constructed there. The wall also helped protect the town from the build up of Ash by shielding the town from the worst of the ashfall.
They soon returned to the Retching Netch and Serena saw something "Looks like Arano is waiting for us." she stated and Jon spotted Second Councillor Arano sat at a table with a drink.
Arano actually seemed pleased when Jon approached "Ah, I take it that your mission was a successes."
"It is done Second Councillor." Jon replied "The conspirators are all dead."
"Then it is finally over." Arano smiled which then turned into a frown when he noticed something "But what of the Redoran Guard I sent there to assist you."
Jenassa spoke up "I'm afraid that they're dead." She stated "They were dead when we arrived, slain by the Morag Tong."
"Damn it!" Arano spat "I had hoped by sending them we would avoid casualties not create them. To think that Vendil would stoop so low as to hire those fetchers, I guess that shows that the power of the Morag Tong is gone for good and good riddance, we're all better off without them."
"We did what we had to do, to protect the people of this town." Jon said
"Indeed, if Vendil's plan had succeeded then it would put the lives of the people at risk of being caught in conflict." Arano stated "Now I believe that Councillor Morvayn himself needs to be told, come on, I think it's time you meet him for yourselves. I'll tell him what you've done for us all."
Essos: Road to Meereen:
After the fall of Yunkai, Aegon had gathered most of his army and they had carried on their way to their final destination, the third and final of the Slaver Cities as well as the largest, Meereen located 50 leagues north of Yunkai. The army was going along the coastal road that went alongside Slaver's Bay and they hoped that they would be there soon.
Aegon had decided to make camp briefly to give the army a rest. He still had the entire Golden Company save for a few hundred that he had left at Yunkai and Astapor along with roughly a third of the Unsullied at the two cities. Aegon also now had the Second Sons and Stormcrow sellsword companies although he was being cautious with their leaders although he could see that Brown Ben Plumm seemed like a good man. Daario had been sent out to scout ahead with the Peake siblings, descendants of an exiled Peake from Westeros but not related to the current Lord Peake.
They came back with some news "Your grace." Laswell the oldest of the three siblings "I think you should come and see this."
Aegon walked along with the Peakes and Brown Ben Plumm and came to an area where they saw his sisters along with Connington and Thresh waiting for them. Rhaenys had tears in her eyes while the others looked full of rage. When Aegon saw what they were looking at, he too felt full of rage. There nailed to a wooden cross was the body of a young slave girl, she looked younger than eight, one arm was nailed across her body while the other was pointing further along the road.
"Those savages!" Visenya growled "They'll pay for this!"
"This is some of the worst work I've seen slavers ever do!" Travis added
"I can't look at this." Rhaenys cried and Connington led her away.
"We've gone further ahead." Laswell added "There seems to be one at every mile between here and Meereen."
"It's meant to be a warning." Plumm stated "They're trying to warn you not to carry on or more death with follow."
"It's not just this, they've also scorched the land around Meereen." Daario added "They've even destroyed their own Freemen in villages surrounding the area driving refugees everywhere, they will be blaming you for this as well as the Grand Masters of Meereen. They're trying to deny you both the people as well as supplies."
Aegon spoke up "How many miles are there between here and Meereen?" he asked
Plumm and Daario had travelled here many times and both answered "163."
Connington then came back "I'll have the scouts ride ahead and remove them." He said "You shouldn't have to see this."
"No!" Aegon ordered "I want to see their faces, all of them."
Visenya added "Remove her collar before you bury her."
The two of them went back while the Peake siblings climbed up to remove the poor girl to give her a proper burial.
Oldtown: The Reach:
Mankar sat in his room going over his notes to prepare for the ritual, if his plan was successful then they would have something that the Mythic Dawn had for a brief moment during the Oblivion Crisis that destroyed the Septim Empire only for it to fail in the end thanks to the sacrifice of Martin Septim. He just needed to lure the king here and his message will do just that, he just hoped that Viserys would not muck things up and mess up the plan.
His answer soon came when he heard the roar of Viserys dragon who landed on the balcony "So, is it done?" he asked
Viserys smirked "It's done and boy did I have fun." His dragon let out a loud roar "I struck during the moonless night and they scrambled before they could react. Then I was able to find the boy and take him before laying havoc to the army. Serves those red cloaks right for turning on my father and he gave them so much power." He threw a small figure off the dragon which Mankar snapped his fingers and two enforcers known as Styrbjorn and Cignor entered picking up the boy and carrying him away.
"Now that we have the leverage we need, I just need to sent the message." Mankar sneered and he called for a Deadlands raven, this looked like a normal raven except for patches of red amongst the black feathers as well as the glowing red eyes. He attached the letter to the raven which then flew away. He then turned to some else standing next to him "Gerold, I have business down by the docks, mind watching over the prisoners for a while."
"With pleasure my lord." The voice of Gerold Dayne replied, he was hoping that he would get a chance at trying again against his former family after being forced out of Dorne and having to retreat here to Oldtown. Soon though he hoped that once the Mythic Dawn's plan was successful, they would be able to retake the territory they had given up before.
King's Landing: Red Keep:
Martin had decided that he wanted to have a family dinner, no politics involved, just him and the family. It had been some time since they had all gotten together and now he wanted to just have a bit of peace despite everything going on. Hopefully it would be all over soon, word had reached him that the joint Tyrell-Lannister army had managed to retake Honeyholt and now were in a day's march. Uncle Stannis had also managed to retake the Stormlands from the Mythic Dawn and Oberyn Martell had recaptured all of Dorne, now the Mythic Dawn only controlled a small sliver of land around Oldtown. The Blades were concerned though about how easy it had been and Martin agreed but for now, he just wanted to have a peaceful dinner.
All of his family were there, his sister Alessia had seemed to recover from her imprisonment by the Sparrows and was happy that Martin had sent a message and that she had not been harmed, if even a single hair had been hurt, Martin would not have hesitated to demolish the whole Sept. Myrcella and her soon to be husband Trystane was also here and Martin had seen they had grown close much to the displeasure of Cersei who had joined them. After the defeat of Joffrey, Martin had Cersei confined to the Keep, she was allowed to live out her life in luxury and given a pleasant life but she was stripped off all political power. With no Lannister guards here, there was no one for Cersei to try and seduce as a way of regaining her power. The Blades kept an eye on her, Cersei had been disgruntled but had soon accepted her position. For all of her faults, she was still a kind mother to her children even if she had coddled Joffrey too much which had led to his mental state as a psychopath who took pleasure in harming others and being cruel for no reason. Only Tommen was absent since he was in the Reach squiring for Tywin, it gave Martin hope that Tommen would grow up, he loved the boy but he was still almost like a child and needed to grow up. Tywin had reported that the boy was growing up and becoming a good advisor who would be lord of Casterly Rock. The final person who was with them was Daenerys, everyone was unsure why she was here but Martin would soon say why.
Martin did not go overboard with dinner, he was not like his father who would throw extreme feasts or tourneys for small reasons though it was still a good meal for his family. Several large chickens and several portions of pork and beef were served, enough to feed the who family.
Trystane started the talk "So Lady Daenerys, how was life with the Dothraki, I heard you lived with them for a while."
"I did." Daenerys said "They were scary at times, I was still only a young girl but my husband Khal Drogo was a kind man to me. Even if he was a big brute, he was never rough with me and seemed to care for me. He took care to make sure I was comfortable and helped me adapt to my life, I may have accepted it if he wasn't killed so suddenly. It's been a year but I still miss him. The Dothraki may be cruel to outsiders but I saw that to them, their way of life was just normal to them. That's something that most people seem to forget."
"Tell that to their victims though." Alessia whispered though she made sure no one could hear her.
Daenerys did though "It was hard sometimes to see their brutality, it was too much for me sometimes but even so, Drogo did not deserve to be killed the way he was, ambushed by the Mythic Dawn, now I've heard that the days of the Dothraki may be at an end. To some I guess they would be happy but I still can't forget that they took care of me and did not use me for their own political gain like some of my hosts were."
"I can only apologize for what my father did." Martin said "You and your brother did not deserve the treatment he gave you. I loved my father but his obsession probably drove him mad, maybe Aerys and Rhaegar deserved their fate but the children were innocent."
"Speaking of that, I heard that Rhaegar's children are still alive?" Daenerys asked
"They are." Martin admitted eating a piece of chicken "I've heard they lead the Golden Company and are forming their own kingdom. Word reached me that they've chosen to lead a war against slavery and I would support them if they succeed, it would be great to have a new ally. Maybe when everything is over, we would meet."
"I would like that very much." Daenerys claimed "It would be nice to see my relatives after being on my own with just my abusive brother to look after me."
Cersei eventually spoke up after a few minutes of silence "So my son, is there a reason why you gathered us all here?"
"I just wanted to have a family gathering." Martin claimed
Cersei saw through this "There is more to this though?" she stated "I may have been stripped of my political power but as your mother, I can still see why you're lying."
Martin struggled to resist a chuckle, Cersei was still his mother and it was hard to lie to a parent "Alright yes, there is more. I am the king of Westeros and as well as running the kingdom, I have another objective."
"To ensure the future of the realm and your dynasty." Cersei replied
"Indeed. A king needs an heir after all." Martin said "I need to take a wife when this is over, I cannot remain wifeless forever and I need to have a good match, someone who knows how to rule the kingdoms, I won't have a marriage to have a glorified baby maker." Alessia, Myrcella and Cersei giggled at that. It is for that reason that I have decided to mend the damage caused by my father and take the lady..."
Before he could say who he would be taking as his wife, there was a loud knock at the door. "Who is it!" Martin shouted not happy about being interrupted
"It's spymaster Caius." The call of Jaime came "He has something important."
"Can it wait Caius?" Martin asked "I'm having a family dinner."
Caius' call came suddenly and Martin could hear the sense of urgency in his voice "I'm afraid not, this message seems very important."
"Come in then." Martin ordered and Spymaster Caius entered with a scroll.
"I'm sorry about interrupting this but this message arrived." Caius stated
"From who?" Martin asked and Caius showed him the seal and Martin was shocked to see the half sun crest, he knew who that crest belonged to "The Mythic Dawn? Why would they be writing to me? They know that I would never trust them for a meeting?" He then undid the seal and opened up the scroll and began reading it out loud "To the usurper who calls himself King Martin Baratheon, I the rightful king of Westeros, Viserys Targaryen III call for your immediate surrender or your lives will be forfit with Fire and Blood, I will kill everyone and anyone you love starting with your little brother who happens to be my prisoner..." Martin stopped as everyone gasped in shock and Martin looked at his mother and then began reading again "come to Oldtown to find out. I want what is truly mine so bring your dragons with you or I'll..."
Cersei noticed that Martin had stopped "Go on, what does it say?"
"Just more of the same rant." Martin sighed lost for words and dropped the scroll which was then picked up by Cersei "bring your dragons with you or I will cut pieces off your brother and send them to you one piece at a time. I will cut off every limb of his before taking his heart and offering to Lord Dagon. When I finish you off you will watch as my army take turns raping your sisters and mother before I give them to Lord Dagon. I will save you for last, you will get to watch as I tear everything down that you love including your family home of Storm's End, the home of your beloved Blades, Cloud Ruler Temple and that small town you've created. Now come to me and surrender."
After some silence, Myrcella spoke up "Do, do they really have Tommen?"
"I fear so." Caius stated "I also received word from Legate Adventus, the army split itself into three in case that dragon attacked and it did. It targeted the Lannister army destroying most of it though Lord Tywin is alive. When they regrouped they found that Tommen was missing, his Jaguar Ser Pounce is alive which suggests that he was captured. This letter only proves it."
"Then I must head to Oldtown at once." Martin said and he stood up and stormed out of the room before anyone could say anything pushing past Caius as well as the Blades standing outside, Barristan and Jaime.
Oldtown: Below the Citadel:
The Citadel had once been home to the largest library in Westeros. It was the source of most knowledge in the land and where the Maesters trained. It took a lot of effort to become a Maester and only the best of the best were selected to be sent to the powerful noble families of Westeros to serve though they renounce all ties to their past family and are sworn to the family they serve. The Citadel had been a main feature of Oldtown for years and a source of pride, now it served as the main prison for the Mythic Dawn. The libraries had been burnt, hundreds of tomes gathered over thousands of years burnt to cinders in a matter of days and most of the high ranking Maesters slain or sacrificed to Mehrunes Dagon. The Citadel had no knowledge of these creatures since religious fanatics from the Faith of the Seven had destroyed most of these tomes and the few that the Citadel had access to had also been destroyed during the Mythic Dawn's onslaught. Below the Citadel lay what looked like prisons, these in fact were quarantine rooms meant to house people with contagious diseases like Greyscale to prevent them from spreading the diseases and so the Maesters could test cures and study the results and the infections themselves. It also served as the area where Maesters studies dead bodies, now these cells were used to house prisoners.
Lady Melessa Tarly and her three daughters were just some of the prisoners here. Ever since the Mythic Dawn captures Horn Hill, they had all been taken here. Melessa could only cry when she saw some of her household, people she had known for years be slaughtered and sacrificed in front of her. At least none of her daughters had fallen victim to that yet though they were different, their hair and clothes had become mattered and dirty and they were very cold and had to huddle together to keep warm, Melessa preyed every day for salvation for every day, she had to watch people be dragged out and they were never seen again, Melissa hoped that never happened to her or her daughters, she had already watched as Ser Hyle Hunt was dragged away and sacrificed.
Melessa heard the jiggle of keys which meant that the Mythic Dawn were back and the to her horror, it was her door which meant that someone in her cell would be sacrificed.
"Please no!" Talla, her eldest daughter begged
To Melessa's shock though, they never came in and dragged anyone, instead two Mythic Dawn enforcers that Melessa heard were called Styrbjorn and Cingor dragged a small figure in and push him down before slamming the door shut.
The figure moved around struggling until Talla helped undo his bonds and remove the hood and was able to see that it was a young boy younger than 12 and had a head covered with blond hair and bright green eyes "Who are you?" Talla asked
"I'm Tommen." The boy answered "Tommen Lannister?"
"The brother to the king?" Melessa gasped "How did they get you?"
"That Targaryen and his dragon attacked my grandfather's army, I tried to fight but I was no match for him, he was getting me specifically. I guess they want to send a message to my brother." Tommen answered "I may still be a boy but I fear they're trying to goad my brother into a trap and if my safety is involved then Martin will do anything for me."
The Summer Sea:
The sea had become more choppy now, waves crashing against the ships as lightning thundered overhead. Theon was still not fully use to being on a ship, particular one that was rocking from side to side, this very nearly made him sick.
"Looks like we will be fighting in this storm!" Kaleen shouted "I see Euron's fleet ahead!"
Theon finishing throwing up his stomach's contents and saw the familiar sight of Euron's flagship 'the Silence' approaching through the storm and already, he could see that Kaleen was right about Euron's fleet not being as great since he saw the waves drag one of Euron's ships down to the dephs. This was it, the major clash between the Greyjoys and hopefully this time, Theon would come out on top this time, he just hoped the fact that he was down a hand did not hold him back. He drew the scimitar that Kaleen had given him while Kaleen drew out Windshear "This is it men, we sail to victory, all or nothing!" the men cheered.
On the Iron Victory, Victorian's flagship, Victorian watched as the Silence came into view, it was time that he made his brother paid for all he had done, he did not turly belief in kinslaying but Euron was no brother of his, he had ceased to be a brother when he had forced himself on his Salt-wife and now he had turned against the Ironborn faith, he was no Ironborn, he was a madman and Victorian needed to stop this before it got out of hand. The Iron Victory may be a Ironborn Longship but Kaleen had reinforced it to ensure that it did not sink in the storm like some of Euron's ships seemed to be doing.
On the Silence, Euron just madly sneered at the ships coming into view, he didn't even seem to be bothered about the fact that he had already lost three ships to the storm, Euron just did not care, he just wanted to kill the remained of his male family and when he got back and found Yara, he would take her as his Salt-Wife even if she was his niece, she was decent looking if a bit plain compared to other girls but he would laugh when he got the chance to fuck his brothers only remaining child. Like the Targaryens would say, keep the bloodline pure and what was more pure than having someone with the same name. Euron was looking forward to it. He did not even bother speaking as there was no point, none of his crew could even talk since he had removed their tongues, he just kept his eye on the incoming fleet and that was it. The Clash of the Greyjoys had begun.
Raven Rock: Solstheim:
The Council Hall, the seat of Councillor Morvayn did not seem to be that much different to a regular house. For someone who was technically nobility, they did not seem to decorate their seat very much, while it had decorations such as paintings and ornaments, it did not seem to be anything particularly special. Even the throne looked like just a regular old chair. Jon did not know if this was due to Dark Elven customs or that House Morvayn was not very rich. He remembered Eddison Tollette or Dolorous Edd, a member of the Night's Watch and one of his friends had said while they were from a noble House from the Vale, they weren't very rich and lived little better than the peasants which is why he joined the Night's Watch.
Sat on the throne was a middle aged Dark Elven man with ginger hair and beard. He did seem to wear fancy robes so he was quite well off but the robes were not extravagant or over the top like some people like to wear. This must be Lleril Morvayn, First Councillor and ruler of Raven Rock, this was the first time they had seen him.
Arano soon approached "Excuse me, Councillor Morvayn, I have some wonderful news."
Morvayn looked at him "Adril, I haven't seen a smile on your face like that in a long time" he said. That was true, Adril Arano was known for being no nonsense, very gruff person who didn't smile that much and always sounded like he was frustrated.
Arano looked at Jon and his group "These visitors to our town have managed to help thwart an attempt on your life. I know you said I was overreacting but it seems I was right, we did have traitors amongst us. Vendil, Telisu and Mirri Severin weren't who they appeared to be. It seems that Vendil was actually the son of Vilur Ulen and they were all here to avenge his death."
That made Morvayn gasped "Vendil? But he's done so much for Raven Rock, when we were falling on hard times he helped ensure that this town did not collapse, he personally helped fend on Reaver Raids and rebuilt damaged structures, how can this be?"
"It seemed that they did this to gain our confidence." Arano answered "They hid in plain sight and when the time was right they would strike. But they got reckless, Telisu began leaving Ash Yam offerings at Viler Ulen's tomb which caught my attention. A quick investigation of their house revealed everything, they had us all fooled. I should have been more vigilant, I am sorry that I failed you."
Morvayn laughed "You have nothing to apologize for old friend. I too am at fault, I was reckless and cocky for believing that the Ulen's would never return." He then turned to Jon "And you step forward please." Jon did and Morvayn spoke to him "What you and your friends have done for me has gone beyond anything of what I would have expected for any Outlander to do at our town. For helping end this threat, helping to protect our town from Ashspawn and reopening the Ebony Mines, you have not only my personal gratitude, but also the gratitude of House Redoran itself."
"Thank you Councillor Morvayn" Jon replied as he knelt on one knee.
That made Morvayn laugh "You don't have to do that lad, it may be normal in your home but not here, you don't have the kneel in front of me." Jon looked embarrassed and stood up against much to his friends amusement. Morvayn then spoke again "Now, I am sure that Adril was prepared to reward you appropiatly for what you have done, however I believe coin is not simply enough for all you have done. Tell me, what was your purpose here, you don't need to hide anything, it might help me know on what to give you."
Jon looked at Serena who nodded and Jon replied "Me and my friends here came from the Wall in Westeros, we are facing a grave threat, the dead have risen far in the north and are coming. The White Walker creatures of legend are real and they are creating an army of the dead to descend on Westeros. Only Dragonglass and Valyrian Steel seem to be effective against them but we learnt of Stalhrim and were ordered to seek it out to see if it will work against the undead. Coming here to Raven Rock and helping was not ordered but it just seemed to be the right thing to do."
Morvayn smiled "I can see why you were hesitant to tell me. Most people would believe that was just fairytales but when you've lived as long as I have, you tend to see there is some truth in the legends. We are facing a undead issue here as well."
"We did wonder if the Ash Spawn here were connected to the White Walkers but there is no way of knowing for certain." Serena stated "Beside the journal we found at Fort Frostmoth seemed to suggest it was more of a necromantic individual raising the Ash Spawn."
"Still, I think I know what I can reward you with." Morvayn stated and looked at Arano "Adril, can you fetch me paper and a quill?" Adril did just that and Morvayn got to a desk where he began writing a note which he then signed and he handed it to Jon "This is an official pledge from me. I personally pledge that I will do what I can to send assistance over to this Wall to help deal with the threat."
"Councillor Morvayn?" Arano questioned
"Adril, we dark elves have been isolating ourselves for long enough. We cannot hide forever, it's high time that we stop hiding and embrace the world. We need to forget about when we were occupied since it's been many years since then but that doesn't mean that we should shun the outside worlds."
"I understand, forgive me." Arano stated "But not everyone will be happy, Houses Dres and Indoril are still believing in the old ways and still reject the outside world and continue the practise of slavery within their lands. House Redoran may have outlawed it but we have no authority in their lands."
"House Redoran did not rise to become the most powerful by sitting idle." Morvayn stated "It was us who helped restore order following the eruption of Red Mountain and us who helped hold off the Dothraki invasion of southern Morrowind and pushed them back. Forming relations outside is a good way to show the world that we are still a people. I'm not saying we do what House Hlaalu did who accepted Imperial occupation, that I am still against but it would be good to have some foreign relations, we can't be isolated forever."
"I guess you're right but even within House Redoran, some members won't be happy about the idea of sending our men to die in a foreign war." Arano stated
"You let me worry about that." Morvayn replied and then looked at Jon again "And one more time, thank you for everything you have done for us. Thanks to you lot, Raven Rock can begin to recover what it lost in the past. The Northern Maiden is due to return soon so I guess you will all be leaving again. I do honestly hope though that maybe one day, we will meet again. You will always be welcome here."
"Thank you Councillor Morvayn." Jon replied
King's Landing: Red Keep:
Jaime and his sister were both alone in the same room, this had probably been the first time the two of them had been this close ever since Jaime left King's Landing while Robert was still alive and he went to join his father before being captured. Jaime looked very different dressed in a suit of Blades armour rather than the Kingsguard armour, in particular the lack of a cloak.
Cersei was very distraught over the news "Our son is being held prisoner. He is in danger of being killed and possible even butchered by those demon worshippers I swear I will torture them all if they harm him in any way!"
"Softer." Jaime whispered "The Sparrows may have been dealt with but there are still those who will use those rumours against us."
"Rumours?" Cersei questioned "Martin knows the truth."
"And his love for his siblings is why he's never revealed it." Jaime said "I know how you still feel about Joffrey."
"My eldest son is missing, my middle son has too much work on his mind and hates me and my youngest son is now a prisoner!" Cersei ranted "And both my daughters are due to marry people I do not approve, one of them is already married."
"Martin doesn't look to you for guidance not because he hates you but because you're not as smart as you think you are." Jaime pointed out "I saw Martin earlier, he wished things were different, he does blame you for how Joffrey turned out but also blames Robert. Maybe if you hadn't coddled him too much he never would have turned out the way he did."
"And what of Tommen?" Cersei asked "What is Martin going to do about it?"
"He wants to get to Oldtown immediantly. He's order Grandmaster Delphine to get everyone ready to head off by morning but she's not too happy." Jaime responded "This is most likely an attempt by the Mythic Dawn to lure Martin to their territory. This sounds like a trap."
"So what would you do then?" Cersei demanded "How do we get Tommen back?"
"Martin will think of something, he always does." Jaime replied.
Elsewhere:
Martin had dressed in his proper set of Ebony Armour and got his sword ready. His pet Jaguar Shadow seemed to show that he was worried about him and Grandmaster Delphine shared his concerns."
"Your Grace please, this sound like it's a trap." She pleaded "They're trying to lure you from the safety into their own territory."
"Safety?" Martin snapped "This entire war I've been here when last time I was out in the front lines. Here most of my bannermen have been doing the fighting while I sat here. How does that make me look, Tommen is my brother and he needs my help."
"I understand but there are problems here." Delphine pleaded "It could take us a week to get to Oldtown even with the horses and even if we get there, not only do we have the problem with the Daedra but there's that dragon as well. None of your dragons stand a chance against it. Dragons may be strong but against bigger dragons, it's suicide. Aegon the uncrowned was slaughtered with his dragon Quicksilver when he found Maegor riding Balerion over the God's Eye while Lucerys Veleryon and his dragon Arrax were both killed by Aemond and Vhaegar near Storm's End. You dragons are still small, if you go against Viserys and his dragon, you may share the same fate."
"Dragons have fought dragons in the past when they were similar sizes." Martin said "Maybe we do have a chance, with Silverwing."
Delphine looked at him knowing what he was planning on doing "Your Grace, Silverwing had been riderless for over a hundred years now. She may not like having a rider."
"I have to try." Martin said "She may be the only hope we have to take down Viserys' dragon."
Honeyholt: The Reach:
Not long after the armies had separated, they had all returned to Honeyholt to discuss what they were going to do now. Their fears had been correct and the Mythic Dawn had attacked one of the armies. The Lannister army had been decimated by the Mythic Dawn attack. Tywin Lannister had survived the attack but his grandson and heir Tommen had been captured. He had been declared missing after the attack and later they found his Jaguar Ser Pounce looking distressed. They had not found a body which seemed to show that Tommen was alive after Ser Pounce led them to some Daedra bodies that he had killed. The Jaguar had been bitten on the leg by a Scamp but seemed to be alright as the wound was not too serious but now the Mythic Dawn had an important prisoner to add to those who the Mythic Dawn had captured during their onslaught at the start of this war.
There was sine good news though, Garlen had been able to get in contact with the Resistance within Oldtown and they had a way to get some of them into the city. The Iron Fleet was away right now which gave them an opportunity to sneak a good chunk of their forces into the city. Legate Constanus had already taken the Third Legion to this entrance while Legate Adventus kept the Second Legion with them.
"This attack on the Lannister army has only proven my fear." Garlen stated "No matter how many men we have, we don't stand a chance against that Dragon."
"Not to mention that the Mythic Dawn have several Oblivion Gates open." Samwell Tarly stated "The Dornish struggled to close just one, here we have multiple."
"House Tarly never flees." Randyll stated "But this time, there may be no choice. Even with our armies together, we would struggle to breach the Gate, that dragon could attack us again."
"We need a new plan." Loras stated
"But what?" Tywin hissed "They have my grandson in there."
Randyll's other son Dickon looked at his brother "Sam, you have been with the Blades for quite a while and the stories did say that they were once renowed Dragonslayers, do you know anything."
"Actually I do." Sam stated "I had access to many texts to do with Ancient Dragonlore and dragons do have weaknesses. Their weak spots are their soft underbellies and the wings. Both places don't have as strong scales making them weaker to Scorpion bolts fired from massive crossbows. Damage their wings and they can't fly but they can fly fast making them hard to hit. The other thing the texts said is that dragons do need rest from time to time, use them too often and they get tired like any creatures do."
"Maybe we could use that." Garlen stated "Maybe we can take out the dragon before we attack. Send a small group in to kill it."
"That's practically suicide." Randyll stated
"Do you have a better option?" Garlen asked "We won't survive a direct attack but a small team could meet up with the Resistance, find the dragon's lair and take it out."
Sam looked at them "Listen, I know I'm not the best fighter but I would like to do, my knowledge may come in handy."
"I'll come with you brother." Dickon stated "Someone's got to look after you."
Randyll shouted out "No, I'm not risking both of you."
Sam looked at him "Don't worry Dickon, I may still be useless at swinging swords, but this..." he pulled out what looked like a knife attached to a long rope "This I know how to use."
"A dagger on a rope?" Randyll questioned
"It may not look like much but this is actually an old Akaviri weapon used by the Blades of old." He began swing the rope around in fast circles before letting go causing the dagger to fly into a stone wall embedding itself in. Sam then gave a firm tug pulling the dagger out again "It's called a rope dart, great to use in confided spaces and can even ripe out an enemy's heart if it hits in the right place."
Randyll was shocked to see how effective Sam used the weapon, he had already been impressed when Sam came to help out even though he didn't know how to fight and now it seemed he could. Sam joining the Blades was defiantly a better decision than the Night's Watch as it seemed that he was becoming more like a Tarly.
"Any volunteers step forward." Garlen stated "You will all meet up Baelor Hightower and the Resistance and hopefully, be able to locate that dragon and take it out. If you can as well, try and locate the missing hostages as well before the Mythic Dawn can harm them. Many of us have family missing and we don't want to lose our loved ones."
The Tarlys knew that in particular, their home had been one of the captured castles and there had been no sign of Randyll's wife Melissa or any of his daughters. All three of the male Tarlys hoped that they were all okay.
Summer Sea:
The Storm was getting more intense. Now even Kaleen's ships were struggling in the wind but sometimes, that actually helped as the ships would be blown right into the side of a Greyjoy ship and the powerful rams of the galleons would smash right through them. Lightning was also striking from the sky and would actually hit some of Euron's ships. One ship was struck setting the entire ship ablaze and then breaking up. Kaleen's ships also made use of Nermano's alchemical recipes and fired them from the catapults creating explosions sometime with fire, others send out shards of ice that cut through people like they were glass while some send out shock bolts that would electrocute the crew and kill them or stun them.
However, even though Kaleen's fleet had the advantage in terms of strength, Euron had the advantage of numbers. Euron's razing of the Iron Islands and parts of the reach had allowed him to hastily build a large number of warships with all the wood they had gathered so Euron had many more ships even if many of them were flimsy. This allowed some ships to get close enough to Kaleen's fleet even if many were lost to the storm or to the firepower of the enemy ships and they were able to destroy some of Kaleen's fleet one ship at a time. If this kept up then Kaleen's fleet would be destroyed even with the number of ships Euron was losing.
"Incoming!" Lerisa yelled as one of Euron's ships approached, Theon looked at saw that it was a usually Ironborn Longship so it was not one that Euron had hastily built. This one was well constructed and Euron saw the sails were dyed red and he saw a large bony hand decorating the sails. Theon realised that this was the ship of House Drumm, a powerful Ironborn house. The ship sailed right into the Spearhead knocking the crew down to the deck. Theon watched as the Ironborn quickly boarded and were ordered by their leader to kill everyone aboard.
Everyone quickly got back up and began fighting. Theon was soon targeted by the leader and when he saw the sword, he was shocked was he recognised it "Red Rain"
"Indeed Ironborn traitor!" Denys Drumm the wielder of the sword spat "So you are still alive, shame the seas didn't claim you."
"I may have lost a hand but at least I still have a heart!" Theon spat "All you people do is raid, plunder and rape with no remorse. I decided I didn't want to live like that!"
"Your houses words are We do not Sow!" Denys spat and swung at Theon who managed to block although it was hard due to not being fully used to fighting with his left hand "You paid the Iron Price when you killed my father so maybe you do have some iron in your blood. Shame you wasted it. My loyalty was rewarded with the return of this and now it will kill the one who stole it!"
"We'll see about that!" Theon hissed at the two began fighting. Kaleen and Lerisa started fighting the other warriors and while the Ironborn were fierce, they were still little more than raiders. Kaleen's men were much better trained, Lerisa easily cut through them quickly with only the top men of the Drumm's being any challenge. Kaleen ended up fighting Denys brother Donnel Drumm while Theon carried on fighting Denys. Denys had the upper hand due to his Valyrian Sword and the fact that Theon was down one hand. In the end though, it was Theon's metal hand that saved him, when Theon had been knocked to the ground and his sword kicked away from him, Theon raised his hand as if to try and block the incoming strike. Red Raid collided with the metal hand and Theon was able to hold it up. Theon just growled at Denys who snarled back but this distracted him long enough for Theon to take a swipe at Denys' legs with his own knocking him to the ground. Theon then grabbed Red Rain as Denys dropped it and before he could get back up, Theon buried Red Rain in his chest. Denys coughed up blood before falling back limb. Theon turned to see Kaleen cutting down Donnel as Lerisa cut the roped connecting the Spearhead to the Drumm ship. The Spearhead quickly blew away as a massive wave overcame the Drumm ship smashing it to pieces.
On the Silence, Euron just snarled as he watched more of his ships be blown apart by the storm. He always saw himself as the Storm, a variant of the Storm God since he was not afraid of storms. This battle was slowly going against him but he smirked when he saw a ship he recognised. He quickly turned the ship towards his new target.
Oldtown Docks:
Inside one of the warehouses, the Mythic Dawn agent Isolde was busy checking over the upcoming rewards for the Ironborn when they returned. Isolde had always been good at gathering information from sailors since she had been stationed at the King's Landing Docks at a small tavern where sailors usually went to after a voyage. Isolde had been put in charge of ensuring that the Ironborn were rewarded for their service and as long as there was drink and women, they were happy. Oldtown was home to storages of alcohol drinks from Arbor Gold to Dornish Red. Women were also in good supply because of the brothels as well as the many people who were unable to escape the Mythic Dawn onslaught. The nobles were taken to the Citadel but the commoners were either killed quickly if they were men but girls and young boys were used to reward the Ironborn. Isolde ensured that they stayed in line.
As Isolde was checking the supply of alcohol, she felt another presence nearby but when she looked, she saw nothing. She went back to checking the crates of bottles only to feel a sharp pain in her back. She turned only to be stabbed in the gut and to her shock, it was just a little girl grinning at her.
"The beauty of looking like a child is that it is easier to sneak in as well as being undected." Babette smirked "The Night Mother sends her regards." She then stabbed Isolde several more times before the Mythic Dawn agent was silence.
Babette then stepped out and prepared to head back to the hideout only to hear a loud clapping.
"You know, it's shame about Isolde, she was always one of the best agents we hand." A voice called and Babette looked up to see a blue cloaked figure "So I see the king decided to hire the service of the Dark Brotherhood to take out my agents, I guess the king is not as much of a good man as people think although sometimes they need to take dishonourable actions for the sake of the good of the kingdom. Admirable I guess but you folks have killed several key agents and may have killed more if one of you lot hadn't approached me with an idea. I take the rest of you out and the Dark Brotherhood gets to continue its existence. But you know what, I don't really care about any deals. I know the location of your base now so how about this, I'm going to butcher every member of your little family. You assassins have no place in our world. Kill her and make sure you bring her heart to me, even a vampire child's heart would be a good sacrifice." The man walked away and Babette saw several Dremora lords approaching her. Babette did not waste any time in taking them out. When she was done, she realised that someone had betrayed them, she had to get back to the base and warn them and when she found out who, they were going to pay dearly.
Meereen: Essos:
Meereen was the last of the Major Slave Cities, it was also the largest and bigger than both Astapor and Yunkai together. Meereen was also made of bricks but they were made up of multiple colours unlike Astapor which was made of red bricks while Yunkai was built with yellow bricks. Meereen was also the most well defended of the cities since its walls were higher than the other cities, twice as thick as Astapor's and better maintained than Yunkai with towers and bastions at every angle. The city inside the walls was also a huge maze of buildings which made navigating the city difficult and easy to get lost unless you knew the layout.
Aegon knew that Meereen was going to be the hardest to take on. Meereen had already proven itself to be the most ruthless after their display earlier and Aegon was going to make sure they paid for that. Meereen was also smarter than Yunkai since they had closed the gates and torched the surrounding land making resources scarce so Aegon was going to have to finish this quick otherwise his army would starve.
The army soon gathered outside of Meereen and Aegon saw that people had gathered on the walls of the city to see what was going on. The Great Masters as well as their slaves were watching to see what would happen. Aegon watched as the gates opened and a single man on a horse road out.
"A single rider?" Visenya questioned
"A champion of Meereen." Connington corrected
"They want you to send your own champion against him." Travis added
The people of Meereen cheered as their champion came face to face with Daenerys army and then removed his breaches "What is he doing?" Rhaenys asked. They got their answer when the man let his cock out and pissed on the ground. Aegon could hear laughter coming from the walls but he did not react. He knew it was meant as an insult but it would take a lot more than that, he had his own plan.
"If these people want a show then give them one." Aegon said "Someone will fight him but it cannot be someone too valuable."
Daario stepped forward "Your Grace, I know I recently joined your army but I came from nothing. My mother was a simple whore and before long I will return to being nothing. But at least let me kill this man for you."
Aegon was quite for a moment before replaying "Very well, make it a show for them. Let's play their game."
Daario stepped forward but had no horse while the Meereen champion was on a horse, at the worried look of Rhaenys, he smiled "Don't worry, horses are animals, they're dumber than men."
The champion of Meereen then pulled out a lance then charged towards Daario who just looked amused. He did nothing except pull out a small dagger which he kissed. Then as the horse got closer, he threw the dagger into the horses eye causing it to fall and throw the rider towards Daario who drew his sword and slashed his throat. The archers on Meereen's walls then drew their bows and fired their arrows but Daario was too far away and he just pissed on the ground to insult the city.
Aegon smiled and looked at Travis "They've had their fun, now send them my message."
Travis nodded and the army stepped aside as the Golden Company bought some catapults over and began placing barrels in them. The barrels were then fired which caused the Meereen people to take cover as the barrels smashed into the towers and their contents fell out. But instead of rocks or tar, instead they were filled with the slave collars of the slaves Aegon had liberated, Meereen had given Aegon a message, now it was his turn.
Aegon looked at the commanders "Let's go to my tent, we need to discuss our next step."
Summer Sea:
With a cloud crash, the Silence plowed right into it's target and just like Euron had done with the Black Wind when he ambushed Yara and Theon, Euron soon on the walkway as it slammed onto the deck. Euron was the first on board with his axe and he cut down a man laughing "Brother!" he called out "It's time t to settle this."
The ship he had targeted was the Iron Victory, the flagship of his brother Victorian. His brother saw him and glared at him "I've wanted to do this for a long time!" Victorian yelled out "Balon refused to allow me to challenge you after what you did but I guess I now have my chance this time since I refused to spill blood at our sacred ritual site."
Euron laughed "I don't care about customs." He laughed "I drowed all the priests when I was done, I had no further need of them. And when I kill you, I will be the last of the Greyjoy siblings left. Aerion didn't even put up much of a fight. He's dead, I tied him to the prow of my ship, he died soon after from exposure."
"You're already a Kinslayer!" Victorian yelled "You've killed two of your own brothers, you're not worthy to call yourself Ironborn, you just a disgrace and a monster of a man!"
Euron didn't seem bothered "I am the storm, the first and the last. Now then, let's end this."
On the Spearhead, Theon watched as the Silence ploughed right into the Iron Victory. He knew something had to be done "Kaleen, my uncle needs our help."
Kaleen nodded "Say no more."
Back on the Iron Victory, Victorian and Euron were still fighting each other, Victorian was struggling due to the ferocity of Euron's strikes and also because he wore thick armour. Euron was just smiling the entire fight and didn't even seem fazed when his face got covered in blood. The only time he staggered was when the Iron Victory rocked when another ship struck it. Another gangplank was lowered and a group of fighters emerged.
Euron smirked when he saw who was leading them "Well little Theon, I thought you died when you fell into the water."
"That's the advantage of not wearing heavy armour!" Theon mocked "Makes it easier to swim."
"Yeah but with only one hand, you can't fight." Euron mocked
"I've been learning." Theon hissed "And now I have this back." He drew Red Rain "Time for round two."
"Yes, and this time I will make sure you're dead this time." Euron sneered "Too bad I don't have your sister anymore, I would have made her watch as I killed the last of her family."
Theon was shocked, it seemed that Yara had been able to escape, he felt relieved that she was safe. He didn't have much time to think and he and Euron began fighting. It was hard when they fought last time but now was even harder. Euron easily overpowered Theon knocking him to the ground. "Well, I guess you weren't much worth after all. You're just a green boy with Greenlander feelings." He raised his axe for the finishing blow but then swung it to the side, right into Victorian's chest.
"Victorian!" Theon yelled and Victorian coughed up blood and fell he his knees. Euron smirked admiring his work as Theon backed away. Theon realised he was right near the edge of the ship and he had an idea. Euron eventually turned back to him and raised his axe again and when it fell, Theon rolled to the side causing the axe to hit the wood. Theon quickly rolled and with a mighty kick, he struck Euron's back causing him to stagger over the axe and right over the side of the ship into the waters of the Summer Sea. Theon ran to the edge and watched as Euron tried to keep himself above the waves but the weight of his armour quickly dragged him down and he never surfaced.
Theon quickly made his way over to his remaining uncle who coughed up blood and looked at him "Theon..." he wheezed "I know you didn't like our ways, but I am proud of you as my nephew. Make your own name in this world, you were right, we don't have to think about the past but at least I die the way I wanted to."
"No, uncle, we can heal you." Theon cried "We can save you, Yara needs you, you're her last true family."
"Yara will be fine without me." Victorian smiled "What is dead may never die but rises again harder and stronger." Then Victorian's head fell back as his hand dropped from Theon's. Theon cried over the body of his uncle.
Dragonpit: King's Landing:
Martin Baratheon walked over to the Dragonpit where the dragons were and was followed by Delphine, Jaime, Barristan and Tyrion.
"You're Grace please!" Delphine begged "This is surely a trap!"
"And what you're thinking is mad." Jaime said "She has not had a rider in over 100 years."
"She could burn you to a crisp." Barristan added
"And we cannot lose our king!" Tyrion finished
Martin shook his hand and glared at them "I'm done hiding!" he shouted "The Mythic Dawn have my younger brother and I'm not going to sit around and not do anything."
"Even if you did tame her, she's already fought Viserys' dragon and nearly died!" Delphine shouted "I know you're worried about your brother but please, let me send word to Steffan and get the Blades assembled"
"That will take too long and we don't have time anymore." Martin decided "I'm taking the fight to them."
They entered the Dragonpit where the dragon Silverwing was in the centre looking over both Martin's and Daenerys' dragons playing around. Martin carefully approached Silverwing and place his hand carefully in front of him and approached him "Listen please, I need your help. I know you've only recently recovered but I need you to go into battle again." Martin said and Silverwing growled causing the Blades to put their hands on their swords. Silverwing roared and opened her mouth wide and there was a large orange glow coming making everyone concerned except for Martin who looked unfazed. Then Martin spoke several words "YOL TOOR SHUL!" The Fire Breath Shout came from Martin's mouth and struck Silverwing who stopped roaring and looked at him before lowering her head and allowing Martin to stroke her nose "Thank you."
Martin then carefully climbed on Silverwing's back and the Dragon stood tall giving another roar before charging forward towards the door making the gathered Blades and Tyrion jump out of the way. Silverwing charged through the door and jumped taking to the air. Martin was worried at first but soon got used to the feeling. He was the first Dragon rider since the end of the Dance of the Dragons. The mighty Silverwing flew in circles around the city for a time catching the attention of everyone from commoners in the city to the Red Keep. Cersei looked out of her window and was shocked to see Silverwing flying with a rider. Trystane and Myrcella also looked out of a window and so did Daenerys.
Silverwing soon stopped flying in circles and then began heading southwest towards Martin's destination, Oldtown and the Mythic Dawn, it was time for the final confrontation.
Chapter End:
Well, merry Christmas everyone, I am so happy I was able to time this chapter to be released on Christmas day. This will be my final chapter of the year and maybe by the end of January, I will have the final two chapters of season 3 done before taking a break from this story to focus on other projects and plan out the plot for season 4, the Worm Cult Arc. I did make the decision to kill off Victorian as well as Euron since he would serve no further use in the story now that Euron is dead too and he would just be sitting around not doing any plot stuff which is why I made the decision to kill him now. Have a merry Christmas and I'll see you in 2023 when I upload the next chapter as I intend to focus on this story until Season 3 is done.
