The Prince of Destruction:
Oldtown:
It was like something out of one of the old folktales of the north or the legends of the ancient civilizations but now it seemed very real. A being that many thought was nothing more than just a story really was standing in the physical world, a god had arrived in the real world and it wasn't a good one but evil, one though sought to conquer and remake the world in his own image. Mehrunes Dagon, the Daedric Prince of Destruction also known as the Lord of change, energy, revolution and ambition and one of the evil Daedra Princes in the old religions. He was a being told in legends as someone who had tried to invade the physical world many times which was believed by his followers to rightfully be his world that was stolen from him. Now he was here in the physical world although many people who had not heard the tales of him were wondering who he was. They got their answer when the Daedric Prince himself began speaking in a booming voice.
"I am Mehrunes Dagon, the Prince of Destruction and the Lord of Change!" He yelled "This world is rightfully mine, your Gods have abandoned you to me, bow before your new God and be spared!"
At the Gates of Oldtown, people were panicking; they had faced the Daedric hoards which were monstrous enough but this was even worse. They had what seemed like a physical god, something even more powerful than dragons, what could they do? Still they were not willing to give up without a fight, Randyll Tarly started it "Fire everything you have!" he yelled
Archers began firing all their arrows while the Legion soldiers fired rocks, Scorpion Bolts and flaming pitch at the Daedric Prince. Many of them hit their intended target but they had no effect. Dagon gave a booming laugh "You're are just a bunch of ants compared to me, and ants get squished!" he then moved his feet and crushed a nearby building "You will all witness the power of Mehrunes Dagon for yourselves!" he then slammed his massive axe destroying another building and creating a powerful shockwave and to everyone's horror, the Oblivion Gates that had just closed had begun to reopen.
"What do we do now?" Garlen shouted
"The only thing we can do." Martin said "We fight; we cannot let him win now. It's all or nothing now."
King's Landing:
In The Red Keep, Jaime was busying doing some reading about the Ancient History of the Blades. Once he had never been interested in reading but now he was a member of the Blades, he was keen to know their history and how they were the best fighters. The order may had been one of the oldest in the world since they had been around since before the ancient Septim Empire had been founded although they went through other names at times such as the Dragonguard. His reading was interrupted by a Blade he recognised as Fortis "Knight Jaime, you need to see this."
"What's going on?" Jaime asked noticing the worry in Fortis
"Nothing good." Fortis replied.
Jaime put his book down and followed Fortis where he found Delphine, Esbern, Caius, Tyrion and even Cersei standing on the balcony of the Red Keep. They were staring at the sky and when Jaime looked, he was horrified; the sky had changed from being a bright blue to being an eyrie red.
"This sky here is the sign of the Oblivion Gates." Esbern stated
"I read about them in some of the books." Jaime said "But we have a clear view of the surrounding lands, there are no Oblivion Gates nearby."
"I've had the Ninth Legion patrol the area to ensure that is right." Tyrion replied
"I don't think this is down to an Oblivion Gate." Delphine said "This could mean that the Dragonfires had failed and Mehrunes Dagon had returned to the world of the living."
"The patron Daedra of the Mythic Dawn" Jaime said "How could he have returned to our world?"
"The Dragonfires were sealed when Martin Septim sacrificed himself centuries ago." Esbern stated "But they may have weakened enough for the Mythic Dawn to perform a ritual to summon him in physical form. This is not good at all, with no amulet of Kings, we can't cast him back to Oblivion?"
"So what do we do?" Jaime demanded "We have to do something?"
"There's nothing we can do here." Delphine sighed "It would take a week to get to Oldtown now, it will be too late, I guess all we have now is to put our faith in the gods."
"Gods!" Cersei snorted "Where were the Gods when my mother died, they don't care about us that's why they're gods."
"Don't underestimate the power of the Divines." Delphine replied.
Temple of the Divines:
The city itself was in a state of panic. It was like it was the end of the world to them. One moment everything was fine and then the next, the sky turned red and superstitious folk began to fear that the end of the world was coming. Priest Rorlund tried to calm everyone but it was hard. Rorlund saw Meghan who was trying to calm a sobbing Barra who was scared by everything that was going on. Rorlund approached the shrines of the Nine Divines and knelt and began to prey "Akatosh, Mara, Stendarr, Arkay, Julianos, Talos, Dibella, Zenithar, Kynareth. If any of the Divines can hear then listen to my prayers. I fear that our king is going to need your help with what is going on. I fear the forces of evil have entered our world, the world you helped create, if you want to save this world and help your chosen one, then I beg you aid us in our hour of need."
"You think they've heard you?" Silana asked
"They have to." Rorlund replied "If there was ever a time we needed a sign from the Gods, it's now."
Oldtown:
The Daedra began to swarm through the Oblivion Gates, even more so than the last time.
"We can't hold them off forever!" Tywin yelled.
Martin noticed the Oblivion Gates had opened mainly outside the city wall "Get to the city!" he ordered, it may be the safest place for us!"
Garlen nodded and ordered the troops to retreat into the city away from the Oblivion Gates. Silverwing managed to take off into the air as the Daedra swarmed towards her.
Martin saw some of the Daedra swarm towards his group and quickly tried to slow them down.
"FUS RO DAH!"
The unrelenting Force shout created a shockwave that blasted the Daedra back a bit allowing the team to make it through the ruined front Gates of Oldtown. They could not defeat the Daedric forces in a front battle so now they had to use urban fighting, use the streets to their advantage. Tywin, Garlen, Randyll and Dickon and several Legions including both Legates stuck with their king to protect him while most others split up to divide the Daedra's attention all over the city but stayed away from Mehrunes Dagon.
Shivering Sea:
Jon and his group had finally been able to return back home after the Northern Maiden had returned to Raven Rock. They paid Captain Gjalund Salt-Sage for the journey back to White Harbour and they were soon in the middle of the Shivering Sea. It was currently night time and Jon had woken up and saw Serena on the deck looking at the night sky. Even though the sky was black, there seemed to be an eyrie red tint somehow.
"What's with the sky?" Jon asked
"Something must have happened in Westeros." Serena stated "This red sky only means one thing, a Daedric Prince must be walking in the physical world."
"You mean the evil gods that oppose the divines?" Jon asked
"Not all Daedric Princes are evil, Azura and Meridia still have strong worship and even Boethiah and Mephala have strong worship among the dark elves. But I remember a time before I was sealed that Mehrunes Dagon once tried to attack the magical school of Battlespire, the sky turned red for a time all over the world that many though it was the end of the world, it only lasted a few days but it was enough to spark fear into everyone since this effected everyone, not just Westeros. It currently dim here because it's night time, but when morning arrives, the sky will be eyrie red. I just hope that King Martin will be able to overcome this, this may only be the beginning, after all the forces of the dead are returning, if the kingdoms are badly weakened, we may not stand a chance."
"Then it's a good thing we've gotten more aid from the Dark Elves, I will be curious to see how they fare in combat." Jon replied
"As long as their infighting doesn't cause too many problems, they will be able to give us aid compared to several of the new Imperial Legions. They are a powerful force and a good ally." Serena replied
Oldtown:
After witnessing the rise of Mehrunes Dagon, Baelor Hightower and his team quickly went back the way they had come into the Citadel but soon found their way blocked by a group of Scamps, they were in a corridor so this would be a confined fight. Baelor drew his sword only for a sharp spike to pierce one of the Scamps which then knocked the others down. He saw Samwell Tarly nearby.
"I thought you were making it back to the hideout?" Baelor stated
"I did but just after I arrived, I saw what happened out there." Sam stated "I'm still learning the fighting skills but I studied under the Loremaster of the Blades, they have tonnes of books, my knowledge may be of use. I have to get to the King."
"Well first we have to find him." Sarella stated "That will be hard seeing as what's going on here now."
"Let's just hope that we survive the fight here." Baelor stated "It was hard before and now it's got even worse. But the world is depending on us."
"Mehrunes Dagon has entered our world before and been banished." Sam stated "We can do it again. I see you've got the Elder Scroll." The scroll was strapped to Sarella's back.
"If that's what this thing is then yeah." Sarella replied
"Keep it safe and whatever you do don't try to read it." Sam warned "There's one of them back at Cloud Ruler Temple locked under the most secure locks money can buy, not even the best thief could break in even without the security. And I've heard that reading them without preparation can make people blind or even go mad."
"I'll keep it shut then." Sarella said in a slightly worried tone, she had no idea how dangerous the scroll was even though she had seen that it had powered the Mythic Dawn's power over the Oblivion Gates although now it seemed that the power was coming from Mehrunes Dagon himself.
Blackhaven: Stormlands:
It was not just Oldtown that seemed to have more Oblivion Gates open. Stannis Baratheon had been leading his forces of the Stormlands across the Dornish Marches closing Oblivion Gates and freeing the area of Mythic Dawn control. Oberyn Martell and his force had joined him after freeing Wyl from Mythic Dawn control. They had arrived at Blackhaven, the sea of House Dondarrion, one of the more powerful houses in the Marches since they controlled the Boneway, one of the two passes through the Red Mountains into Dorne. This area had been a strong area of fighting between the forces of Westeros and the Daedra. Stannis had thought it was over but now it seemed the Gates were reopening and he had lost nearly a third of his men in the fighting before. He just hoped that they could keep this up before both he and Oberyn lost all of their men; he did not want the Daedra spreading out of the Marches and through the Stormlands. True he and his wife did not love each other as much as husband and wife should but he was still a dutiful husband and loyal, he did not cheat and he loved his daughter Shireen so much. He would not allow her to be subjected to the torments he had seen. He had seen what the Mythic Dawn had done to some of their prisoners, if his daughter had been one such victim, nothing would have stood in his way of killing every single Mythic Dawn member and their Daedric allies painfully. He shared a look with Oberyn who was weary after so much fighting and the loss of one of his daughters, he hoped he would have to lose another one but he needed to try and end this before that happened. Nymeria had been injured already and was forced out of the fight and he knew that Sarella was in the middle of the fighting at Oldtown. Only Tyene and the four children with Ellaria were safe.
"Let's give these fuckers what they want!" Oberyn yelled "They want a fight then let's give them one."
"They won't show us any mercy so we'll give none to them!" Stannis added and the men cheered "Let's show them how our forces fight!"
Both groups of men who were normally considered enemies joined forces as they charged towards the Daedric swarm charging towards them.
Oldtown:
"FO KRAH DIIN!"
The Frost Breath Shout was unleashed by Martin at a group of Flame Atronachs that was blocking the way and the icy breath extinguished the fire within them causing them to fall to the ground and look like blacked corpses as their orange glow faded. Up above the city, Silverwing flew around blowing fire into the city streets incinerating the Daedra that were still inside the city but stayed away from Dagon, one swing from his axe would probably cut the dragon in two. They soon arrived at one of the large open squares of the city. This had once been a garden full of flowers and was a place for the people of the city to breathe some fresh air and get some tasty fruit. Now it was something else, the once bright green grass had turned red and become the bloodgrass that normally grew in the Deadlands, the realm ruled by Mehrunes Dagon. The flowers had turned into another Deadlands plant called Spiddal Stick with had pale yellow flowers that released a green cloud that could choke people. Also growing along the walls was a root like plant called Harrada, a plant that was alive as it would smack people if they got close and with the spiky thorns, they could wound people.
The area was also home to several Dremora and when they got there, they saw that they were not alone. Randyll was shocked to see Baelor Hightower fighting but was really shocked him was his eldest son Sam using the rope and spike he'd seen earlier, he was waving it around like a pro piercing enemies and throwing them around, he had lost much of his weight and now was using his strength. When he joined the Blades, he believed that he would have stuck to books but he was wrong, the Blades really had changed him but it seemed he still had no interest in becoming Lord of Horn Hill, he would rather stick with the Blades and now, he didn't seem to mind. He could say that he was proud of him now even if he was fighting with a different weapon.
"Ser Hightower." Martin greeted
"Your Grace." Baelor replied "I'm glad we've finally get to meet, I just wish it was under better circumstances."
"So do I." Martin replied "I knew things were bad I just never thought it would be this bad."
A cry of happiness got their attention "Brother!" Martin saw Tommen barrel towards him and embrace him crying "I'm sorry brother, I tried to fight them but they were too much."
"It's alright Tommen." Martin replied "I'm just glad you're safe, did they hurt you."
"They tried to but Ser Pounce saved me." Tommen replied as Tommen's yellow Jaguar came up "He saw us before they tried to kill us."
Martin saw Randyl embrace two women who he recognised as Melissa and Talla Tarly, Randyl's wife and daughter.
Sam looked at them "You're Grace, none of this is going to matter if we don't get rid of Dagon. We have to find a way to defeat him."
"That guy is a god like being." Dickon stated "Did your books say anything on how to defeat him?"
"Well he was banished to Oblivion before." Sam said "Maybe we can do it again."
"We can't do it the way it was done last time." Martin sighed "Last time the Amulet of Kings, the symbol of the Gods was shattered destroying the ancient pact and allowing the realms of Mundus and Oblivion to be sealed forever. We don't have that now."
"We have to think of something though." Tywin said "The longer we wait, the worse it will become." As if on cue, Dagon slashed and destroyed another building which Baelor saw was one of the other Septs in the city.
"Well, what about the Elder Scroll?" Baelor suggested "It was the source of the Mythic Dawn's power, maybe we can get some power from it. Maybe we can beg the gods for help. I know you don't believe in the Seven your Grace but the Starey Sept was a centre for the Gods regardless."
"I guess it's better than doing nothing." Martin replied "Let's get to the Sept, hopefully this works."
"We need to try and clear a path though." Tywin added
Martin had an idea "Hold on." He said and the prepared himself "STRUN!" Suddenly, there was a heavy downpour and lightning began to strike in random places shocking the Daedra and electrocuting them. "The Storm Call shout. One of the more powerful shouts but also one of the more dangerous and difficult shouts. I've still not fully mastered it yet which is why I only used the first word. That should buy us some time."
Meereen: Essos:
Aegon Targaryen looked at the city of Meereen. He had received a message that Grey Worm had been able to encourage an uprising among the city's slaves. He may not be able to launch a full on assault but he could divide their attention. It was night time and he had ordered an assault on the western wall in order to divide the Meereen army and take pressure of the slave revolt. He seemed to have this feeling that something was wrong. Despite it being night time, there seemed to be a red tint in the sky, something was wrong but he couldn't think too much, he had a battle to win.
Soon his attention was drawn by someone else "So brother, once we take Meereen, we'll have liberated all of Slaver's Bay." Visenya called
"Well, we still have a lot ahead of us." Aegon replied "Taking the cities are one thing, holding them is quite another. Our ancestor Aegon the Conqueror had to deal with threats when he conquered Westeros, we will have many who won't like what we have done. Much of Essos relies on the Slave trade, they will come after us and we will have enemies within."
"I still believe it would be best to kill the Masters when we're done here." Visenya commented
"As much as I hate to say this, not every Slave Master is the same." Aegon replied "There are some that are benevolent to their Slaves and treat them like family. All the masters will be given a fair trial and those found guilty will be punished. And should they decide to rebel then I will slaughter them as a warning. I gave them mercy this time, should they rise up, they won't be so lucky."
"Part of me hopes that happens so I can kill them myself." Visenya muttered though Aegon heard it and gave her a hard stare.
"By morning, I will get a report from Grey Worm to see how he's done with the inside revolt. This battle will be over soon and we will be consolidating our control over the region."
Starey Sept: Oldtown:
The Storm Call shout had done its job and allowed Martin and the others to arrive at the Starey Sept. The once great Sept that had once been the centre of the Faith of the Seven was now just a hollowed out building. The statues and stained glass of the Seven had been smashed and the altar desecrated. Even though Martin did not believe in the Seven, it was hard to see this. Even when the Sparrows had staged a revolt, he had been respectable to not spill blood in the Great Sept when he could have easily done so. The Mythic Dawn had done the complete opposite, they had used the Sept as a ritual site to sacrifice people to Dagon on the altar that was once the centrepiece of the Sept and rubble had been used to construct a makeshift statue of Dagon. With one shout of Unrelenting Force, the flimsy statue crumbled to the ground. Martin would be using the Altar to pray to the Divines and use the power of the scroll.
Just as Martin was about to prey, he saw a body lying face down nearby. He pushed the body over with his foot and saw the face of Viserys Targaryen. His skin had turned green and he had seemed to have been disembowelled and sacrificed like so many others. He must have outlived his usefulness and the Mythic Dawn had sacrificed him. Martin did not know how to feel, sure the man had caused so much trouble and inflicted terrible losses but did he really deserve this fate? Some might say yes but Martin didn't really care now, he had more important things to do. He quickly went over to the Altar and knelt with his legs crossed. But just as he was about the pray, there was a loud crash and part of the remaining roof of the Sept caved in and there stood Mehrunes Dagon himself.
"Foolish Mortal!" he growled "Do you think that your Gods will come to save you now? They won't because I shall destroy you before they come!"
Dagon raised his axe and prepared to strike only for a strong stream of fire to blast him in the shoulder knocking him back. Silverwing had saw her master in trouble and had come to help. Silverwing landed on a building a fired fireballs at Dagon.
"Hurry Your Grace!" Sam called as Sarella passed him the Elder Scroll "Dagon won't be distracted for long."
"Alright, let's do this." Martin said and he opened the scroll and there was a bright flash as his vision went white and he couldn't see.
Oldtown Docks:
Theon watched the massive demon strolling around Oldtown. He as well as Kaleen had seen the demon arrive from the Spearhead, now they had to try and do what it took to help. The Spearhead as well as the other ships had stopped a short distance from the shore and Kaleen led all the warriors she had which included Jakarn, Lerisa and Nermao to shore in small boats. Theon joined them hoping to find his sister. There was not much on the docks except a few Daedra which were quickly taken care of.
"Brother." A voice called and Theon saw Yara along with her lover Tristifer Botley but he raised his sword when he saw Tristifer's Cousin Balon Botley. "It's okay Theon, he's with us. Balon and Quellon Botley helped me escape, they did not agree with their father siding with Euron."
"Well he's dead now." Theon explained "The ways of the Ironborn culture may be over, most of the hardcore Ironborn reavers died with Euron. Only Baelor Blacktyde and us seem to be all that remains of our culture."
"Well we can move on." Yara explained and embraced Theon "I'm glad to see that you're alright, I thought you were dead when you fell overboard. I'm happy to see that I was wrong and you recovered your sword." She saw Red Rain in Theon's hand "A Valyrian Steel sword for a great warrior. Say, where's uncle Victorian?"
Theon sighed and shook his head "I'm sorry Yara, he died during the battle."
Yara was close to tears upon hearing that, With the death of both her father and all three uncles, it seemed the Greyjoy line was close to dying out. Tristifer came forward "I know it's hard Yara but we have to move now. We can mourn later when the fight is over."
Yara wiped her tears "Alright, we'll talk about the future later."
Outside Oldtown:
On a hillside in the lands surrounding Oldtown, a lone figure dressed in a bright blue robe and had golden skin that was wrinkled and white hair. It was Mankar Cameron, leader and founder of the Mythic Dawn and he looked like he had aged quite a bit. In performing the ritual, he had sacrificed much of his power including much of his magically ability including the magic that had kept him from aging which is why he looked much older. It had been worth it though in order to bring his master back though it would have been better if he had been able to use Martin's blood as he wouldn't have needed to sacrifice his powers with it. Time had been running out and he knew it was impossible to get to the king now since the Elder Scrolls was losing power and they couldn't keep the Gates open much longer so he had resorted to drastic measures which were having a great effect. His god, Mehrunes Dagon had restored the Oblivion Gates and they were beginning to overrun the armies of men. Once Oldtown had been obliterated, they would move on settlement by settlement destroying the world and Dagon would rebuild it in his own image. Not even Martin's dragon was a match for Dagon's power.
Unfortunately for him, Mankar had been weakened and his senses weren't what they once were so he did not see the hooded figure approach him and stick a knife in his back. Mankar groaned and looked at the figure.
"Not so strong now are you without your powers." Elam smirked "Sithis and the Night Mother never forget anything. Send them my regards when I'm done." With that Elam began slashing at Mankar some more.
Unknown Location:
Martin looked around, he seemed to be in some kind of void. There was nothing around him except a white vastness. All around him he could see nothing except white.
A voice caught his attention "It's been a long time since any of my descendants have been able to contact us. Sometimes it's hard to see if they're brave or foolish or perhaps both. Sometimes we need to be both in dark times." Martin looked to see a golden figure in golden armour with a horned helmet in front of him. The figure looked like one drawing he recognised "Talos."
"That's the name I was given when I died." The Divine Talos stated "I didn't always like being worshipped as a God, I believe in being more of a saint really but I did set an example. A pity that few of my descendants did the same especially after the death of your namesake Martin Septim."
"Though our influence has weakened over the years no thanks to fanatics like Baelor Targaryen and the Andal leaders that came before him, thanks to you and your sister, we have begun to regain our lost powers again." Another robed figure approached which caught Martin's attention since it was a humanoid dragon, only Akatosh was said to have this form.
"And you have been wise enough to see that the road ahead is hard." A robed figure that looked like a wise man which Martin guessed was Julianos.
"And been merciful when possible." A bearded man with a drinking horn, the symbol of Stendarr, the Divine of justice and mercy.
"And my own influence has increased within the North though it has always been strong since I am close to their Old Gods." A woman dressed in a dress that was inspired by nature with leaves and branches. This was Kynareth, the Divine of nature.
The four remaining figures which included two women, the first dressed in a white robe, the other in red as well as two men, one in a black robe and the remaining in work clothes did not speak. Martin guessed that they were the aspects of Mara, Dibella, Arkay and Zenithar respectively.
"All nine Divines." Martin guessed.
"Aye my young follower and my son technically since you have my blood." Akatosh said "You need our help don't you."
"I couldn't think of anything." Martin said "I hate to intrude on you, I may be Dragonborn but my powers are only just emerging. I'm still young and Dagon is more powerful than ever."
"I may have defeated him before but again, I was more powerful back then." Akatosh replied.
"Still he is wise." Julianos stated
"And he loved his people." Mara added
"And the people need our help more than ever." Talos stated "We must help."
"It will take all of us." Kynareth added "But we can do it."
"And give the people hope." Stendarr finished
"We give you our blessing Dragonborn." The Divines all said at once.
"But be warned as you may experience a great loss and a cost for this victory." Akatosh warned as Martin's vision began to fade again.
Starey Sept:
Martin woke up to find himself lying on the ground of the Sept on his side. He looked up to see Dagon and Silverwing still fighting but then the building Silverwing was perched on collapsed and she had to try and fly to another building, only to be slashed by Dagon's axe nearly slicing her wing off and the dragon crashed into the Sept close to where Martin was.
Dagon looked at Martin "It seems your Divines have abandoned you!" he mocked "You may be Dragonborn but you're weak. You've not seen your full potential and you never will! This world is mine now!" He raised his axe high but just as he brought it down, Martin did another shout.
"IIZ SLEN NIS!" The Ice form Shout had the power to encase its victims in ice. While Dagon was safe, his axe was not. The massive axe was encased in ice which then shattered. Martin looked with his eyes glowing "You're trespassing here Dagon!"
Dagon narrowed his eyes "So Akatosh, we meet again!"
Akatosh was currently using Martin's body to speak "Indeed Dagon, this is not your world and it never will be."
Dagon laughed "And just how are you going to beat me, that boy may be Dragonborn but he still doesn't have the strength."
Akatosh smirked, "No, but she does!" he looked at Silverwing and an orange glow left Martin's body causing him to fall to the ground and watch the glow enter Silverwing whose wounds suddenly healed, he glowed orange and suddenly exploded blowing the rest of the Sept roof off. Silverwing changed into an orange fiery dragon instead of the once silver scaled dragon. She looked more like a spirit of fire rather than a simple dragon. Dagon growled and used his clawed hands to slash the dragon. Silverwing breathed a powerful stream of fire at Dagon much more powerful than before causing Dagon to stagger. Then the dragon bit Dagon on the neck making the Daedric Prince shake around like he was dizzy before another stream of fire engulfed Dagon who then began to fade.
"You are banished Dagon!" Akatosh roared before Silverwing took a few deep breaths. Then she seemed to expand and let out a loud roar before Martin watched in horror as Silverwing's fiery scales turned into hardened stone and all that was left was a massive stone statue.
Blackhaven: Stormlands:
Stannis and Oberyn's forces were being pushed back when a loud rumble was heard and they watched as the Oblivion Gates suddenly closed and collapsed. The many Daedra also then collapsed as their connection had been severed with Dagon being banished. The surviving people looked around and then began to cheer at their victory.
Starey Sept: Oldtown:
Tywin Lannister and Garlen Tyrell entered the Sept and saw the massive statue of a dragon and Martin had struggling to get up. "My king." Tywin called "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine." Martin replied "It's done. It's over. The Divines heard my pleas. The avatar of Akatosh came to our aid. Dagon has been banished back to Oblivion but at a cost." He looked at the dragon statue "Silverwing is gone."
Garlen looked at the statue "She helped us in our time of need. She will be remembered for it."
"I will ensure that it is." Martin replied "Her tale is now just as legendary as Balerion the Black Dread or even Vhagar. She will remain here as a memorial to all those that were lost in this. Oldtown has been ravaged but we will rebuild."
"We should get back to King's Landing now," Tywin stated "The kingdoms need their king."
"Indeed, we're got a lot of rebuilding here." Martin replied "Although the Mythic Dawn Leader Mankar Cameron is still out there and is a major threat."
"Not anymore he won't be." A voice called and everyone looked to see a shadowy figure that Martin recognised as Elam Drals, the Dark Brotherhood Speaker. Tywin and Garlen but their hands of their swords but Martin told them not to worry "Mankar won't be a threat to you anymore." He threw something on the ground that rolled and Martin saw it was the severed head of Mankar Cameron "Don't need any payment for this one, he did harm my family so this one is free also I will inform that you and your family will be safe from any contracts in the future. Also, I believe you will want these, keep them safe." He threw a bag and then stepped back into the Shadows and vanished without a trace.
Martin looked at the bag and found a Dragon Priest staff and mask as well as a large book and a dagger. Sam recognised the book "The Mysterium Xarxes, the holy book of the Mythic Dawn and Mehrunes Razor."
"And full of dangerous writings and dark magic." Martin replied and he threw the book into a small fire in the Sept and watched the pages burn until all that was left was a pile of ash "Better off destroyed where it can do no harm. No one should have access to that kind of magic."
"What of the scroll and those other items?" Tywin asked
"The mask and Staff were artefacts that were stolen from Farengar, he was doing research on them so they will be returned to him." Martin ordered "As for the Scroll, it will be locked up under top security in Cloud Ruler Temple but away from the other Scroll already there, I can't risk having both in the exact same place but Cloud Ruler has plenty of vaults and top security. The same goes for the Razor, it cannot be destroyed but we can at least keep it locked away where it can do no harm. Now I think it's time we return home, I need some time to relax and focus on rebuilding.
And so later that same day, Tywin Lannister road back with the King and his grandson Tommen and Samwell Tarly back to King's Landing. Garlen Tyrell and Randyl as well as the Legionnaires remained behind to help clear the rubble to help prepare for the rebuilding of Oldtown. All across the known world, the Red tint in the sky suddenly faded and the sky returned to normal as if nothing had happened. Now those who had seen the red tint who knew nothing of what had been going on in Westeros now wondered if they had been seeing things as it had seemed nothing was wrong at all despite the panic that had occurred.
Meereen: Essos:
The red sky had quickly faded and nothing seemed to have happened and so for a few days, the Siege of Meereen carried on as normal while the Slave uprising led to savage fighting within Meereen. Throughout the maze of streets, slaves rose up against the masters and killed anyone involved. The poorer freefolk of the city also joined in the uprising which increased the savagery of the fighting. People were killed and houses were looted and the soldiers of Meereen retreated to the upper levels of the city where the rich people and the Great Masters lived. Not wanting to see their homes looted, some of the richer people of the city approached the Targaryens, they were not the Great Masters of Meereen but still rich people and offered to led Aegon in on the agreement that he would end the intense fighting. Aegon agreed on the condition that the Great Masters were handed over to be tried for their crimes. Soon Aegon's army were let into the city where they ended up having to fight some of the uprising people since some of them were only interested in raping and looting so Aegon ordered a stop to it. Within a few days, the fighting soon ended and Aegon and his sisters were led to the Great Pyramid of Meereen.
Meereen was full of stepped pyramids which was where the nobility lived, the largest was the Great Pyramid which housed the council of Great Masters, the rulers of the city. This Pyramid stood at over 800 feet high and none of the other pyramids even reached half that height. Aegon stood with his sisters as well as Connington, Grey Worm and Brown Ben Plumm in the Great Pyramid's main room, the Unsullied had the Great Masters as well as their families all held together on the other side of the room.
"Tell me Jon, how many children did the Great Masters nail to mileposts?" Aegon asked
"163 Your Grace." Connington replied
"163." Visenya added "That's 163 families who lost a young child. The people responsible for this will be punished, I still say we just kill them all and be done with it."
"Brother, may I speak." Rhaenys added
"Sure sis." Aegon replied
"Look, what happened was horrible, I was crying when I saw it." Rhaenys added "This city is now ours and these people are now our suspects. Sometimes it is better to answer injustice with mercy otherwise we may be no better than them."
"I will answer injustice with justice." Aegon replied "But you are right, some of these Masters may have had nothing to do with the children. They will all be confined here while they're investigated. Grey Worm, speak with the former slaves, track down those who lost children, have them tell us which of the Masters were responsible for the murder of those children. The ones who were involved will be punished with crucifixion. Show them how it feels although their families will be spared but lose three quarters of their wealth as well. Those who were innocent will be spared but will also lose a quarter of their wealth for their involvement in slavery.
Visenya was pleased and so was Rhaenys. Visenya took great pleasure in seeing the Great Masters squirm in fear.
Castle Black: The Wall:
It had been a while since setting off from Raven Rock and Serena's warning about the Daedra but it seemed there was nothing to worry about as the sky had returned to normal by morning. They soon arrived back at White Harbour and took some horses back up to Castle Black. Jon had sent a raven when they were at White Harbour letting them know they had returned and should be back within a week.
Jon and his companions rode through the gates of Castle Black where they found both Lord Commander Mormont and Grandmaster Isran waiting for them. Also there was Val, Mance Rayder's sister in Law. Mance was nowhere to be found.
"Jon, I see you have returned." Isran called "It's good to see you again. Were you successful?"
"We were." Jon replied "We'll explain inside, where King Mance?"
Val sighed "He's back at the Nightfort in mourning. I'm afraid my sister Dalla passed away giving birth to his child. She was determined not to lose this one after the previous failures. It killed her in the end. Mance said he needed some time to himself so I've come in his place."
"Well, let's see what you've accomplished." Mormont called and when he noticed that Jon was staring at his cane he was using to support himself, he added "I'll explain this inside."
Soon they were in Castle Black's canteen with the papers spread out of a table "We managed to get the Skaal to tell us the secrets of forging Stalhrim. It is a difficult craft but these guides should tell us how it's done."
"Still there's no way of knowing if they'll work against the White Walkers or Wights yet." Val said "As for Stalhrim itself, these old maps do show a source here in Westeros but it's beyond the Wall."
"And last time we went beyond the Wall, we got ambushed and then some disillusioned brothers mutinied against us." Mormont added "We'll need to take care of them first and then find a way of creating a base for operations beyond the Wall."
"And there is something else." Jon added getting the pledge that Morvayn had written "While we were in Raven Rock awaiting for a ship to return home on, we got drawn into politics there helped foil an assassination plot on Councillor Morvayn. In thanks, he has pledge that he will give us aid when we need it and has agreed to talk to other Dark Elf houses to help as well."
Isran looked at them "Help like that could be what we need to help establish a base."
"Though I will write to Lord Stark to inform them that we'll be having unexpected guests here. For now they'll be able to use the castles of Long Barrow and Torches, they're still not manned yet.
"At least we're got the aid." Isran said "Because Westeros has been weakened thanks to this Daedric attack and I've heard there's the risk of another one so we're going to need all the help we can get."
"We should also begin work to understand more about the White Walkers as well as the Dragur." Serena stated "If we know more then we'll be able to find out how we could possible beat them."
"At least we have a man beyond the Wall." Mormont stated and looked at Jon "I have news for you lad, your uncle Benjen is alive."
"Benjen!" Jon gasped "Where is he?"
"Sadly he could not return with us." Mormont replied "He saved us when we were attacked by Wights, he saved us but he told us that he was attacked by the Walkers themselves but saved by the legendary Children of the Forest. They saved him but he is now half undead. Apparently the Wall has magical runes preventing the dead from crossing so he cannot return but he has said he would scout the Walkers and Dragur."
"At least I know that he's alive." Jon smiled.
Red Keep: King's Landing:
Two weeks had passed since the Battle of Oldtown and the defeat of both Mehrunes Dagon and the Mythic Dawn. King Martin had now returned to King's Landing and had decided to invite all of the major lords of Westeros to King's Landing to take part in the celebrations as well as announce some important decisions he was making. Prince Oberyn Martell had arrived with Nymeria and he could speak with Tyene and Elia so they could all mourn the loss of Obara together. Willas Tyrell had also arrived with his daughter Rose and they could spend time with Alessia again. Garlen and Loras had both remained in the Reach to help with the rebuilding of Oldtown. Tywin and Tommen were also back and all of the siblings except Joffrey were reunited for the first time since the end of Martin's Rebellion, Stannis was also here so the entire Baratheon family were back together. The new Lord of the Vale Harrold Arryn formally Hardying was also in attendance as was Lord Royce and Martin's half sister Mya Stone and her husband Mychel Redfort as well as their newborn son who had been born during the Mythic Dawn war which was why Mychel had not joined the fighting like he had wanted to at first.
Only the Vale, North and Riverlands had not sent men mainly on Martin's request so they had some backup forces if the worse came. Robb Stark had also arrived south with his wife Jeyne Westerling who was able to speak with her brother Raynald who told her the horrific tales of what he had seen while fighting with the Lannisters at Oldtown. Their young son Eddard was with them as well as was Arya who wanted to come south, Bran and Rickon had remained in the north along with Sansa. Lord Edmure Tully and his uncle Brynden had come to represent the Riverlands while Theon and Yara Greyjoy, the last of the Ironborn were here. The issue of the Ironborn was one that would be talked about during this meeting.
Everyone had gathered in the Throne Room with long tables and food but not too extravagant. Martin had not been someone to spend too much plus even though they had won a great victory, it did not seem fight to hold a great feast when so much damage had been done. A vast amount of money would be needed to repair Oldtown as well as the ravaged lands of the southern Reach.
"My Lords, my Ladies." Martin called standing from the Throne "We have all gathered here to celebrate our victory over the evil cult known as the Mythic Dawn. For the last several months, they had ravaged some of our lands and attacked our people and our ways of life. We have destroyed the Cult and protected our people but it has come at a cost. Oldtown, the second biggest city in our land has been badly damaged, homes had been destroyed and many innocent lives have been lost. I cannot stand to see such an important part of our history be destroyed so I am setting up a relief fund to help with the rebuilding of Oldtown. We can rebuild a city but we cannot replace the lives of those we lost so a memorial will be set up to honour those who we lost." The gathered lords cheered until Martin held his hand up "The Mythic Dawn caught us by surprise and caused much devastation, we were unprepared and such a thing must never happen again. For this reason I am establishing a new order of Knights. A Holy Order dedicated to investigating dangerous cults and preventing them from causing any more problems. There will be some restrictions to prevent this new order from overstepping themselves like the Faith Militant of old did as some Daedric groups are harmless like worshippers of Azura and Meridia so not all Cults will be considered dangerous, it will be up to me and the Blades to decide if these cults should be eliminated. Also during this war, Titus Peake displayed loyalty to the Iron Throne and was great help at assisting in the recapturing of the Marches. For that loyalty I hereby returned House Peake's former castles of Whitegrove and Dustonbury to their control and make House Peake a major house once again. The sins of our fathers should not affect the sons. Ronnet Connington also displayed loyalty so some of his land will also be returned. And lastly, I have a major announcement in terms of my future as King. One of the things a king needs is a queen and I have decided on who my Queen will be. Some of the lords here called my father a usurper for taking the Throne from the Targaryens. Well King Aerys II had one daughter, both his sons are now dead, one killed by my father and the other one killed while serving the Mythic Dawn. They were seen as mad but madness is not passed down. Lady Daenerys Targaryen has shown herself to be a wise girl and not mad and in order to properly cement my family's rule and remove the sin of rebellion, I have decided to take Lady Daenerys Targaryen as my queen." That caught everyone's attention. This had been what Martin was going to announce until the news that Tommen had been captured.
"Congratulations." Myrcella smiled at Daenerys.
"My brother always said that he would be King." Daenerys replied "All I really wanted was a home."
"And you've got more than a simple home now." Alessia smiled
Cersei was the only one who did not look pleased but said nothing. There was no point now, Martin had made it clear that she held no power and Tywin had warned her that he could always try and marry her off again but Martin had said that he would not force her as long as she knew her position and not try and undermine him.
Just as the feast started to get going again, Blade Knight Fortis walked in with some servants carrying a wooden crate. "I'm sorry Your Grace but someone left this crate outside with a message addressed to you."
"To me?" Martin questioned
Delphine looked at the crate "Your Grace, allow me to check this out." She noticed the box was shaking by itself "We have no idea what this is. It could be a trap. Fortis, open it away from the guests."
"Hang on, let me read the letter." Martin ordered standing up from the throne and Fortis walked over and handed him the letter. Martin noticed the seal was black wax with a skull, which was a bad sign. He opened the letter and read out loud "Congratulations King Martin of the Seven Kingdoms. You have done what no one has done for many years and defeated an evil pretty much forgotten. But beware, if you think that you're troubles are over then you are wrong. I am Manimarco, the King of Worms and leader of the Worm Cult. You seem like a wise man and probably remember the attack we did on your city during your Rebellion. That was just the start, we have a lot more coming now that the Grey Host is back. I give you this gift as a reminder of what we can do and also in a way, return someone who you know. He was useless to us anyway and you'll probably see why."
"I don't like the sound of that." Delphine stated
"Just like I feared, this Worm Cult will attack next and we're already weakened." Martin stated "This next attack may be harder than the Mythic Dawn's attack. What's in the crate then, open it."
Fortis took out an Akaviri style dagger called a Tanto and undid the lid on the crate and removed it. Fortis gasped and fell backwards with a gasp as something began to crawl out of the crate. Well not something someone. It was a person with greenish skin that was peeling off in places. The eyes looked dead and lifeless. It was a zombie, someone raised from the dead but not just anyone. Seeing the blond hair and the face, the Baratheons as well as some of their family and friends quickly realized who it was.
Tommen and Myrcella gasped in horror while Cersei screamed and threw back her chair. She began making her way to the zombie until Jaime quickly ran up and held her back as she collapsed the floor crying. It was her eldest son Joffrey. Martin was also shocked and horrified at this. Sure he and Joffrey had never gotten along but did he really deserve this. Some might say yes because of what he had done but did anyone really deserve this. What a horrible fate this was. Even Arya who had wanted to kill Joffrey so much was shocked at his fate. Sure she wouldn't have hesitated to kill him but turn him into a lifeless zombie, that was pure desecration. If it had been the other way around, Joffrey probably would have been smug but Martin had always sworn that he would not be like his brother. With a sigh, he nodded to Delphine who walked ahead with her own Tanto and stabbed the zombified Joffrey in the head. Martin walked down the steps of the throne to confront his mother who was sobbing her eyes out. The feast looked like it was over and had ended on a bad note. There was another Daedric Cult preparing for an assault on the world and they had sent a warning of what they were capable of. The only sense of relief for Cersei was that at least she could begin to make peace with her son's fate now even if it was such a horrible one.
Chapter End:
Notes: Well this is it. The final chapter of season 3 arc and the Mythic Dawn war is officially over. I have decided to put this story on hold for now while I plan out the season 4 arc: The Worm Cult arc, in more detail as well as try and concentrate on other projects, in particular Mass Wars Episode II as well as my original stories. With University now finished and since I'm still looking for work, I have a lot of time on my hands now so I will eventually come back to this story but don't expect it soon. Also, some may not be happy with the fight with Dagon but remember that Dagon is a massive God, even Martin with the Dragonborn abilities, which he is still untrained in, would be no match for a God and he could never fight in one on one. I tried my best to give it justice but I was limited.
