Title: Junk Battle!

"Come on… Come on!" begged Megan, waiting for the camera to turn on properly, "Please hurry it up! We need to get this broadcast started already!"

"Hold on, Megan!" A cameraman reassured, shaking the camera he was holding, "Just gimme a second; I've almost got it working."

Soon, the static from the camera ended, revealing Megan about to give her reporting on the Duel Monsters tournament beginning as of today (it was now Saturday).

"Good morning, America!" greeted Megan, "This is Megan Haw of the Daily Writer's Group reporting," While speaking, the cameraman smiled over his friend and co-worker doing a good job thus far, "We're here live in the New York City stadium, where I will be covering the newest Duel Monsters tournament hosted by New York Governor Rex Godwin!" She nodded and, after a few seconds, briefly stepped aside, "We will be here present and accountable from morning to early evening. We have a packed stadium today, and we have sixteen duelists competing to show who's the best Turbo Duelist in the country!"

All across the New York City stadium, there were thousands of fans in the stands, cheering and waiting for the tournament to officially begin. Standing on the podium atop a large stage, Rex was looking over a speech that was written for him on a sheet of paper, and standing beside him was Lazar.

"We have sixteen duelists, but only one of them can win it all," giggled Lazar, "In fact, the final one literally showed up at the very last second."

"Indeed," agreed Rex, "Which of these duelists will ultimately go all the way? With how this tournament will run, it will put their skill, riding, and thinking to the test."

"That's right, Governor Godwin," Lazar nodded, before snickering again.

Down on the track, various duelists and their friends and/or family were standing around and looking all across the stadium. Among those in the field were Team 4D's, Zack, Discord, David, Sean, Janice, Ren, Lisa, the three Astray girls, Ms. Simmons, Mr. Kisaka, Azrael, the three Bio-CPU boys, Vincent, Sherry, Paul, Maria, and a few police officers. The following were wearing their motorcyclist outfits:
-Matt: His motorcyclist suit consisted of the same blue jacket with amber gems, but the flared bottom was replaced by a black strap with an orange outline. He wore blue jeans with amber gems at the knees and knee-high boots.
-Michael
-Carlie
-James R.: He didn't actually wear a motorcyclist suit, but instead replaced his vest with a brown leather jacket.
-David: He still wore his regular attire, but also sported a layer of what looked like thin dark blue shock absorbing body armor on his torso, upper arms, and shins. His forearms were still decked with his gauntlets and his glasses were equipped over his eyes.
-Lisa
-Asagi
-Mayura
-Juri
-Orga: His motorcyclist suit had bits of armor around the torso and was colored black and light blue (including the helmet and boots).
-Clotho: Similar to both Orga, his motorcyclist suit had bits of armor around the torso, but was instead colored black and yellow (including the helmet and boots).
-Shani: Similar to both Orga and Clotho, his motorcyclist suit had bits of armor around the torso, but was instead colored black and gray (including the helmet and boots).
-Vincent: He sported a typical black and red leather full bodysuit with fire accents.
-Sherry

"Look at how many people there are!" gapped Lisa, "Oh man, I can't get nervous, right now!"

"You'll do just fine, Lisa," reassured Ms. Simmons.

"Time to showcase my dexterity for all to witness!" added David positively.

"That's the spirit, David," praised Ren, "Now, you'll find us in the stands along with your Mother and sister. Do you understand?"

"Right, Dad."

"But you know," interrupted James R., "I never thought this tournament would even proceed; it was a single duelist short of being cancelled outright."

"Still, one final duelist did manage to come," commented Matt, "Granted, it was at the last second, but what matters is the tournament is going forward as Godwin wanted."

"If you ask me, the duelist looks remarkably familiar," commented Juri, looking nearby while adjusting her glasses, "I mean, I might have seen her face from somewhere before."

Standing nearby was a tall woman of elegance. She had light blue eyes, a gem tied to her forehead, and long black hair with her bangs parted. Her motorcyclist outfit and helmet both were emerald green in color with bits of black and gold, and it came with heeled boots.

"I think I might know who that young woman is," Lisa realized thoughtfully, "It's Misty Tredwell, a very famous model and actress who also is a dueling competitor from time-to-time."

"Hold on! Did you say Misty Tredwell?!" gawked Asagi. After a moment of silence, she became very excited over the revelation, "Omigosh! I can't believe Ms. Misty's actually here in this stadium, competing in a Duel Monsters tournament like we are!" Matt, Michael, James R., and David all looked very confused over the fangirling, "I hope I get a chance to talk to her at some point, or even face her in a duel! That would be… be…" She closed her eyes and brought both hands to her pink cheeks, "Eeeeeee!"

Mayura sighed and looked towards a very confused-looking Carlie, having to explain the reason for Asagi's fangirling over Misty.

"As you can see, Asagi is a big fan of Misty," Mayura whispered in bemusement, "She's seen most of her movies."

"Ah," nodded Carlie.

Over with the people from Blue Cosmos…

"Look at all of the people in the stands, boys," whistled Azrael, taking notice on how many people had gathered just for day one of the tournament, "It's the amount we need to witness Blue Cosmos winning this tournament and regaining our school's full popularity."

"Damn right, Headmaster Azrael," agreed Orga, "One of us will win this little tournament in your name."

"And that'll be 'me'," bragged Clotho.

"Do you seriously believe you'll be the one to do it?" growled Shani.

"Hey, at least I didn't get my butt kicked by a girl," Clotho retorted, getting into his friend's face, "And besides, no matter who I face, all I want are monsters to beat down into submission."

"Now, now, boys, don't argue," scolded Azrael, "Save yourselves for when you are up to duel."

Clotho and Shani both looked at their headmaster and immediately ceased their pointless arguing just to please him. Over with Vincent, he was busy looking over his Deck once again.

"Things will be much different from last time, robo-boy," thought Vincent, while cycling through his cards, "You surprised me with that dragon last time, but now that I know what to expect, I, the 'Level-up King', will win and regain my lost honor."

Nearby with Sherry and her Duel Runner, Sturm und Drang, she was currently speaking to a man wearing a nice-looking business suit.

"I am ready, Elsworth," began Sherry, "I will not lose in this tournament."

"Try not to take it too seriously, m'lady," encouraged Elsworth, "It is all in good fun, after all."

Sherry frowned, "As much as I want to agree with you, I'm not here to have any fun," she reminded, "I can't have any fun… Not until I finally get rid of the demons that have been plaguing me."

"The demons plaguing you?" repeated Elsworth, before realizing what his ward meant, "Oh, yes…"

"To rid myself of those endless nightmares, I must defeat Carlie Izayoi in a duel," continued Sherry, "It's the only way I can recover."

Before long, Rex, still on the podium, was now standing before a microphone about to give his speech and signal the beginning of his new tournament. He tapped on the microphone a few times to try and get the audience to settle down. Once the audience was quiet…

"Good morning, everyone! Welcome to New York City's first annual Action Turbo Duel tournament," began Rex, "I am the host of this tournament, Rex Godwin, governor of New York."

The audience resumed their cheering once more. Down on the track, all of the duelists were confused by the name of the tournament.

"Action Turbo Duel?" quizzed Matt.

"Does this mean we're going to have the duels going through famous movie scenarios?" asked James R. naively, making a joke, "'cause I'm not in the mood to be chased by a giant boulder while shouting for someone named Jock to start the engine."

"James, that's not what Godwin meant," corrected Zack, rolling his eyes, "No, I think he means that this tournament is going to be far different than how both Ground Duels and Turbo Duels are normally done," He (Zack) was gazing long and hard at Rex, "The first ever tournament centering on the newest Duel format approved by me and Industrial Illusions."

"Different?" pondered Mayura, "Hmm… I can only imagine how different he meant it."

On the podium…

"Now, I can tell many of you are wondering what I'm talking about," continued Rex, "Well, I will let my assistant, Lazar, explain how this type of dueling will work."

From there, Lazar approached the podium and stood on his tiptoes to speak into the microphone.

"Good morning, New York City, I am Lazar, assistant to Governor Godwin," said Lazar, "What he has said has probably got you all confused," He giggled sinisterly, "I don't blame any of you for that. Allow me to clear this all up," The audience and duelists grew intrigued as they heard the explanation, "As many of you may know, not too long ago, the Island of Sodor's Boxford Corporation and Germany's Schroeder Corporation both teamed up to begin developing a new project in the Hologram System sector that not only allows duelists to create their own dueling scenery," The jester-like man then held a remote up, "but can also make the monsters they Summon 'real'."

"'Real' monsters?" asked Carlie, looking at her friends, "Dueling scenery?"

James R. and Matt both shrugged in response, and Discord merely stroked his chin curiously. He had once heard of the concept from a quick conference call he had with Spencer Gresley and Frieda von Schroeder regarding it, but still didn't know all of the details in full.

"However, it has another purpose," continued Lazar, "It's used for Action Duels."

"Action Duels?" The audience was murmuring to each other, "Action Duels?"

As a means of demonstrating what an Action Duel was, Lazar turned and, with the press of a button, caused the monitor to display footage of Spencer Gresley and Frieda von Schroeder inside a large chamber in Boxford Corp headquarters dueling each other in an attempt to demonstrate how an Action Duel works. In the footage, one of the technicians to press some buttons as a computer began to activate. This caused the dueling arena around Spencer and Frieda to glow as several Duel Monsters cards began to appear floating in little balls of light all around the area.

"Now, this is just an example," Lazar pointed out, "In an Action Duel, a Field Spell commonly referred to as an Action Field, is activated before the Duel starts, modifying the terrain to look similar to the card's artwork. Action Cards are then scattered throughout the field, which either duelist can search for to aid them," The duel between Spencer and Frieda began, with them making talented acrobatics to reach and pick up Action Cards, while the audience and several of the competing duelists went "Oooh!" and "Aaah!" over how cool it looked, "When an Action Card that is a Spell Card is found, it is placed in the hand and can be used right away as if it was a Quick-Play Spell. However, when an Action Card that is a 'Trap' Card is found, it activates right away. When a card is activated, a player can use the Action Cards they found to pay the cost if necessary," As the explanation and duel proceeded, Spencer sent 'Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon' to attack the three monsters (actually Spell Cards) known as 'Goddess Skuld's Oracle', 'Goddess Verdande's Guidance', and 'Goddess Urd's Verdict', destroying them with Ultimate Alternative Burst, much to the dismay of Frieda, "A warning; a duelist can only carry 'one' Action Card at a time. Action Fields are specifically created for Action Duels, as such they do not have any effect other than allowing Action Cards for use for both players, although there are differences amongst each Action Field. As previously mentioned, they will each materialize a setting unique to each Action Field, providing unique and differing obstacles each, including some potential hazards of their own. Furthermore the Action Cards available vary with each Action Field, some being unique to specific Action Fields," Spencer smiled smugly and seemed to dare Frieda to come at him much harder, and Frieda agreed to the demand, "The distribution of the Action Cards is also not random as it looks at first glance. They are spread in pre-set locations and sometimes will appear at a programmed time."

"How interesting," mused Discord thoughtfully, now completely understanding what this was all about (seeing as the rest of the concept during the conference call was kept strictly secret), "I should really give Spencer-boy and Frieda both a call to thank him for creating such an interesting concept to dueling when we get back to San Francisco."

"Although Action Fields are activated as a duel begins, basic Field Spells may still be activated during Action Duels and their effects are applied in addition to those of the pre-set Action Field. When this happens the terrain is overwritten to match that of the new Field Spell," continued Lazar, while the monitor displayed more footage of how the new concept works. He then snapped his fingers, "Most pre-existing Field Spells have an erratum change which adds the following line 'You can use Action Cards, but you can only have 1 Action Card in your hand' which as described above is commonly found in Action Fields."

The huge flatscreen monitor above the podium turned off. Everyone in the audience and on the track was amazed on how interesting the concept of Action Duels really was. Spencer and Frieda both had out done themselves.

"I think I'm going to like this kind of dueling," grinned Orga, before looking at Clotho and Shani, "How about you two?"

"You bet," nodded Clotho, "Not only will we kill the competition, figuratively, but we'll be doing so with 'real' monsters!"

"Not to mention our Duel Runners are built for this kind of dueling," added Shani, "This will be a really easy tournament for us to win."

Back on the podium, Lazar stepped away from the microphone to allow his boss to resume speaking to everyone.

"Similar to Turbo Duel rules, a duelist, and in this case the monster, can evade attacks as the duelist has until the attack connects to respond with an effect and can continue to search for an Action Card to play," explained Rex, "This adds an additional dimension to duels where a duelist can use the environment to evade while discovering Action Cards they find to respond with."

The explanation left the audience very excited to see such a duel.

"Ha ha ha ha! I can tell all of you are deeply intrigued by such a duel," laughed Rex, "Once we finish revealing who the duelists are, we can officially kickstart the Action Turbo Duel tournament. For that, I invite the Master of Ceremony to introduce us to our contenders."

Over on the track…

"This is it," mumbled Matt.

"Bring it on!" added Michael.

Back on the podium, the big monitor turned itself back on (again, thanks to a remote used by Lazar), this time the footage showed sixteen different duelists on their signature Duel Runners. Not only that, the MC (Master of Ceremony) also walked onto the stage, took the microphone, and began announcing the duelists in a very hammy way.

"First, we have our first representative from the United Kingdom!" began the MC, before pointing at someone in the gathering of duelists, "David Xadashi and his Duel Runner, The Wild Card!"

The audience applauded (Gabriella was especially loud in hers) as one of the sixteen squares on the monitor enlarged and showed David riding The Wild Card. Down in the track, David blushed a little bit as he scratched the side of his head.

"Hear that, Dave?" smiled Janice.

"You have your fans even here in America," added Sean.

"We're very proud of you, son," finished Ren.

"The attention is still something I have yet to become acclimated to," admitted David sheepishly.

Soon the applauding ceased as the MC continued going over the duelists competing…

"Our second representative from the United Kingdom," he pointed out, as the monitor showed footage of Vincent riding a Duel Runner modeled after a dragster, "Vincent Stevens and his Duel Runner, The Beast!"

The audience began cheering for Vincent, but, to his attention-seeking dismay, it wasn't as loud or encouraging as the amount of cheering David got.

"Hey, where's my respect!?" Vincent complained childishly, before glaring hatefully, "Damn you, robot-boy…"

Once the stadium became silent…

"From the school Orb, we have four representatives," boomed the MC, just before the monitor showed Asagi riding her M1 Astray, "The first is Asagi Caldwell, with her Duel Runner being named M1 Astray!"

Asagi beamed happily while waving to the cheering crowd, just as Rex announced the next duelist…

"Our second Orb representative," As the voice of the MC spoke, the monitor showed footage of Mayura riding her own M1 Astray, "Mayura Labatt and her own M1 Astray!"

Mayura took in the cheering, while her friends and two teachers also applauded for her.

"The third representative from Orb," announced the MC, "Juri Wu Nien! And wouldn't you believe it? She also rides an M1 Astray!"

Footage on the monitor showcased Juri riding her M1 Astray. Speaking of Juri, the intelligent, dark blue-haired young woman blushed bashfully at the amount of applause she was getting. Finally, the monitor displayed footage of Lisa riding Strike Rouge.

"The final representative of Orb!" The voice of the MC yelled out, "Lisa Drake and her Duel Runner, Strike Rouge!"

Lisa eagerly threw her fist up into the air at the sound of the applause.

"Oh yeah!" Lisa yelled out triumphantly, "Bring it on, baby!"

"Next, we have three representatives from the school Blue Cosmos," rejoiced the MC, just before pointing upward at the monitor, "Up first is Orga Sabnak and his Duel Runner, Calamity!"

The monitor displayed footage of Orga riding a deadly-looking Duel Runner, painted orange and a type of blue, modified after a giant robot carrying and/or equipped large cannon-like weapons. The audience cheered loudly for Orga, who merely smiled smugly as he bowed and took it all in.

"Our next representative of Blue Cosmos!" continued the MC, before the monitor displayed footage of Clotho riding a Duel Runner, painted red and a type of black, modeled after a giant robot designed for flight. Suddenly, the Duel Runner transformed into what appeared to be a large plane mode of sorts, "Clotho Buer and his Duel Runner, Raider!"

Clotho took in the applause he was getting, much to the annoyance of both Orga (who had been enjoying the attention) and Shani (despite the fact he would get to be applauded next). As expected…

"Our final Blue Cosmos representative!" As the MC spoke, the monitor displayed footage of Shani riding Forbidden as it transformed into its 'High-Speed Assault Form' and sped down the road, "He's a nasty one, folks! Shani Andras and his Duel Runner, Forbidden!"

The applause immediately went from Clotho to Shani, who folded his arms and took it all in with a look of satisfaction while Orga snorted and Clotho looked away, annoyed. The footage on the monitor then changed to that of Sherry riding her Sturm und Drang as the MC spoke on…

"She may look like every boy's dream girl, but she is a lot tougher than she looks," he was saying, before pointing at the duelists on the race track below, "Sherry LeBlanc, and she rides the deadly Sturm und Drang. Hey, that's German!"

Although that drew cheers, it also drew some scattered giggles from the audience. Then, the monitor showed footage of Misty riding a biker-style Duel Runner. Very quickly, Asagi yelled and cheered loudly for her favorite celebrity.

"Now, this fine lady's as good as any duelist as she is being a model and actress!" The voice of the MC declared, "It's Misty Tredwell, and she rides…a motorcycle Duel Runner? Yeah, you got me there."

Cheers rang out for the famed model and actress, who casually fanned her long black hair.

"And now, and this is a surprise, our next contender is a member of the law!" said the MC, looking surprised, "Paul Truman, and he rides a security-styled Duel Runner!"

Paul, closing his eyes while smiling, expected cheers like everybody else, but he instead got a large amount of boos from the audience.

"WHA-?!" cried Paul, collapsing anime-style.

"Don't worry, sir, we think you're great," comforted Male Police Officer 1.

"Yeah," Male Police Officer 2 agreed, helping his boss back up.

A bemused-looking Maria merely looked away and shook her head without saying anything. On the podium, the MC then became VERY excited over who the remaining duelists were left to go over.

"Oh my goodness, everyone!" The MC began, as footage on the monitor showed the final four contenders for the tournament, "We have our final four duelists to reveal! The first one was known as the infamous 'Black Rose Witch' by many, but in reality is a sweet girl! We have Carlie Izayoi and her Duel Runner, Bloody Kiss!"

The footage on the monitor zoomed in on Carlie riding Bloody Kiss as the audience went wild for her. The footage then cut to James R. riding Blackbird.

"Our next duelist; he certainly knows how to 'fly' when promoted," joked the MC, though he remained as overjoyed as ever before, "James Hogan and his Duel Runner, Blackbird!"

The crowd cheered for James R., who waved pleasantly to the crowd before looking over to Mayura and shooting her a wink. Mayura merely groaned with annoyance and looked away to hide her red cheeks, while Lisa, Asagi, and Juri each giggled in amusement.

"These two… Now, THEY are the ones we're all excited for!" The MC, whose excitement was growing to unmatched levels, "One of our two final duelists is widely seen as 'the' King of Turbo Duelists everywhere!" As he spoke, the monitor displayed footage of Michael riding Wheel of Fortune, "Michael Atlaaaaaas!"

With his arms folded, Michael smirked as the crowd went absolutely crazy over him. Nearby with Lisa and the Astray girls, Juri was shown applauding when Lisa leaned in and nudged her (Juri) side. This caused Juri to blush a little bit seeing as she had a genuine crush on Michael. The monitor was soon showing footage of Michael beginning to point up towards the sky as he drove down the road.

"There is only one King, and that is me!" he declared pridefully.

Nearby, Megan was shown cheering loudly for Michael for some pretty obvious reasons, but then remembered that she was supposed to be reporting on the tournament and turned to face the camera with an embarrassed blush and smile on her face. The monitor finally displayed footage of Matt riding Fudo Go.

"At long last, we come to the American Duel Monsters champion!" The voice of the MC was practically howling, before he himself pointed at the gathering of duelists, "He is also one of the top five strongest duelists in the world—and he is Matt Fudo, with his Duel Runner being Fudo Go!"

The cheers for Matt were very similar to the cheers Michael got, but greater since he was widely seen as one of the most famous duelists around. With the duelist introductory section finally over, the monitor immediately shut itself off while Rex returned to the podium and microphone as the MC stepped aside and allowed the man to address the stadium once again.

"These sixteen fine duelists will compete to show all of you in this city, and around the world, just who is the best at Turbo Dueling," he began, before addressing the duelists down below, "As for how you will advance, this will be an elimination tournament. Eight of you will advance, while the remaining eight who lose the duel will be eliminated. This will continue until the final two still standing are able to duke it out for the Turbo King crown."

"That will be me," thought Vincent.

Several of the other duelists were thinking that too, but a few of them had different goals in mind…

"You and I will duel Carlie…" thought Sherry.

"I don't care who I duel; I just want to have fun," thought Lisa.

"As soon as we duel, punk, I'm gonna beat you badly," thought Paul, clearly wanting to duel against Matt.

Back on the podium, Rex was finally ready to announce who would be facing who in the first round. He (Rex) held his right hand out, and Lazar handed him (Rex) a remote for the monitor.

"Here are the match-ups for the first round!" announced Rex, as he turned to face the monitor as he pressed a button on the remote.

The monitor showed the standings for round one, and the sixteen duelists were paired up as followed:
-Matt and Paul
-Mayura and David
-Lisa and Vincent
-Clotho and Misty
-Sherry and Asagi
-James R. and Shani
-Carlie and Orga
-Juri and Michael

Paul's eyes widened when he saw he (Paul) would face Matt in the first duel of the tournament, and those widened eyes were of excitement and determination. Before Maria could say anything to her boss, Paul turned and walked towards Matt and the other duelists.

"Officer Truman," greeted Matt calmly.

"Heh! It looks like you and I are going to be dueling first," remarked Paul sharply, "Consider this day the last you'll ever be champion, or even as a free man…" He pressed his thumb right near his chest, "When this duel ends, I will have you locked away for a very, very long time! Try to look forward to it."

Matt said nothing back, but the declaration from Paul surprised the rest of the group. From there, Paul and the police officers walked away, but not before Maria turned and shot Matt a quick, apologetic look. It was then Matt knew he would have no other choice but to tell his friends what happened.

"What could that have been about?" wondered David.

"Matt, what's going on?" asked Sean.

"Did you piss that guy off somehow?" put in Lisa.

"Is there a little something you didn't tell us?" finished Discord.

Matt sighed, "Do you guys remember how I was late coming home that night?" he began, which earned him nods from Michael, Carlie, James R., Zack, and Discord, "Well, that's because I was busy Turbo Dueling that police officer."

"Dueling him?" repeated Zack, "What for?"

"He and a couple of police officers from the San Francisco Police Department were in an alleyway cornering a young kid for a crime he didn't commit," recalled Matt, as a few faded clips of him (Matt) encountering and challenging Paul were superimposed over him (Matt) and everyone else, "When I arrived on the scene, I stepped in and challenged the lead officer, namely Officer Truman, to a Turbo Duel. If I won, he would have to drop the case on the kid and check out some security cameras for the true thief. However, if I were to lose, then I promised I would turn myself in and claim to the police chief that I was the culprit," The clips ended, and he narrowed his eyes a little bit, "I didn't want the kid to get into trouble like that, so I had to step in and do something about it."

"Even though it resulted in you now having a revenge-filled, crazed police officer after you?" deadpanned Michael.

"I wouldn't say he's crazy," interrupted Discord, speaking about Paul, "In my eyes, he just…takes his job way too seriously."

"I think we all can see that," remarked James R. earnestly.

"Nevertheless, he's determined to defeat and arrest you," reminded Carlie, "You'd better be careful out there."

"Don't worry, I will," promised Matt.

(later…)

Half an hour later, the two stadium gateways opened up, and out came Paul riding his Security Duel Runner and Matt riding Fudo Go, with both driving onto the stadium track as the audience burst into loud cheers. Meanwhile, the rest of the party was seated in the stands until it was their turn to duel.

"You go, Matt!" called James R..

"Go, Fudo-senpai, go!" cheered Gabriella, who was seated beside Futaba and David.

"Kick it into overdrive!" hollered Lisa.

Once both Duel Runners stopped at the starting line, Matt and Paul looked at each other for a moment.

"So, we're dueling each other already," said Matt.

"You're damn right about that," agreed Paul, "This time, I promise you that you won't be so lucky in winning, scumbag!"

Matt said nothing else, and instead kept his eyes on the road ahead. Back on the podium, the MC was getting ready to do his commentary for the duel, but first…

"Based on what I was told by Governor Godwin, I first need to activate an Action Field for the duel to take place," The MC was saying, before giving a hammy command, "Action Field, on! 'Crossover Acceleration'!"

This caused the dueling track around them to glow as several Duel Monsters cards began to appear floating in little balls of light all around the track. Once that was over, both Matt and Paul pressed a button on the dashboard of their respective Duel Runners.

"Duel Mode, engaged," came a computerized voice aboard the two, respective Duel Runners, "Autopilot activated."

"This is it!" declared the MC, who was eagerly awaiting the duel to commence, "It's time to duel!" The crowd cheered as his announcing neared the end, "The first duelist to complete one lap around the track will be awarded the first turn!"

Both Matt and Paul revved their respective Duel Runners, awaiting for the countdown on the nearby board to finish before they could begin driving down the track. Once the five ticks counted to three…

"Turbo Duel! Acceleration!" The voice of the MC yelled out, once the three remaining ticks ran out.

Both the Security Duel Runner and Fudo Go charged down the track as the crowd burst into cheers over the duel finally beginning. Despite knowing that he could easily win the race, Matt decided to let Paul overtake him (Matt) and cross the finish line first, thus rewarding the gruff police officer the very first turn.

"And Officer Truman wins the race!" The voice of the MC cheered, "He gets to go first!"

"That's all I needed to hear from you…" thought Paul deviously, drawing a card, "It's my turn!"

Turn One: Paul Truman (LP: 4000)
Deck: 54
Current Hand (6): "Jutte Lord", "Synchro Gift", "Torapart", "Jutte Fighter", "Dimensional Prison", and "Goyo Arrow"
Action Card: N/A

His drawn card was a Spell Card called 'Goyo Arrow', adding the card into his hand (which contained 'Jutte Lord', 'Synchro Gift', 'Torapart', 'Jutte Fighter', and 'Dimensional Prison') and taking another from it.

"Here I come, punk!" declared Paul placing his card onto a Monster Zone on his Duel Runner, "I Summon 'Jutte Lord'!"

Appearing onto the field was an Asian warrior wielding a lariat (Level: 4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 1200).

"Rather unfortunate for you, but this ain't the only monster you'll be seeing," continued Paul, taking a card from his hand, "I activate 'Jutte Lord's' effect! If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: I can Special Summon 1 'Jutte' monster from my hand," He placed the card onto his Duel Runner, "I Special Summon 'Jutte Fighter'!"

Appearing onto the field was a small Asian man, armed with a sword-like weapon called a lariat, dressed like a kung fu master (Level: 2/ATK: 700/DEF: 900).

"A Tuner monster," whispered Matt, who knew where this was leading to, "It's coming!"

It was coming…

"My Level 2 'Jutte Fighter' tunes Level 4 'Jutte Lord'!" declared Paul.

'Jutte Fighter' did a couple of moves with his weapon before turning into two Synchro Rings, which 'Jutte Lord' jumped into, turning into four glowing orbs of light as it was followed by a Summon Chant…

"Behold, this is the power of authority!" chanted Paul, as the symbols 4 + 2 = 6 were shown briefly before the four orbs of light in the two Synchro Rings turned into a beam of light, "Synchro Summon! A surprise encounter, 'Goyo Guardian'!"

Appearing onto the field, when the beam of light burst apart and the Synchro Summon sequence ended, was the masked samurai-like warrior armed with a lariat on a rope (Level: 6/ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000). Over on the podium…

"What a shocker!" yelled the MC, clearly shocked and amazed, "Officer Truman's Synchro Summoned on his first turn! Best of all, it has a sky high ATK of 2800 despite bring a Level 6 monster!"

Back on the track…

"Not only that, I'll also equip it with an Equip Spell," smirked Paul, before holding another card ('Goyo Arrow') up, "'Goyo Arrow'!" A large gatling gun-like weapon appeared in the hands of 'Goyo Guardian', "I must equip only to a 'Goyo' monster."

Matt remained cautious about what else was going to come from Paul. Sure enough, something else did come.

"I activate 'Goyo Arrow's' effect!" explained Paul, as focus went towards an occupied Spell & Trap Zone on his Duel Runner and a transparent image of the 'Goyo Arrow' Spell Card was superimposed over, "Once per turn: I can inflict damage to my opponent equal to the equipped monster's Level x 100!"

'Goyo Guardian' turned and prepared to open fire upon Fudo Go, while Matt grimaced as he waited for the attack.

"Eat this, you filthy scumbag!" yelled Paul, "As 'Goyo Guardian' is a Level 6 monster, I can inflict 600 damage upon you!"

'Goyo Guardian' fired from the gatling gun, seeming to strike Fudo Go and resulting in an explosion that clouded that portion of the track. The audience watched in shock over seeing Matt seemingly take 600 damage on the first turn.

"I told you things would be different," bragged Paul, looking mighty pleased with how successful his first turn was, "Already I'm going to damage you without even declaring an attack!"

"Are you sure about that?" The voice of Matt echoed.

"Huh?"

From the thick amount of smoke, Fudo Go burst out while looking undamaged, and its rider also was undamaged in terms of LP (LP: 4000).

"What?!" cried Paul, "You're undamaged from the attack?!"

He then noticed that a familiar-looking monster was floating beside his opponent, and it (he) was…

"'Junkuriboh'!?" ranted Paul, "You had that card in your hand?"

"I sure did," confirmed Matt, before holding his card ('Junkuriboh') out for a few seconds, "When my opponent activates a card or effect that would inflict damage to me (Quick Effect): I can send this card from my hand or field to the GY; I must negate the activation, and if I do, destroy that card," He then discarded the card and gave the command, "Go forth, 'Junkuriboh'! Destroy the 'Goyo Arrow' in 'Goyo Guardian's' hands!"

'Junkuriboh' eagerly obeyed, charging across the track like a bullet and striking into the 'Goyo Arrow' weapon within 'Goyo Guardian's' hands, causing an explosion. Paul cried out as he felt the backlash from said explosion, but he fortunately took no actual damage. When the smoke cleared, 'Goyo Guardian' was still standing, but had lost its weapon.

"Grr… I Set one card and end my turn!" hissed Paul, taking and slotting a card into his Duel Runner.

On the monitor of Fudo Go, Matt noticed that his opponent's field now had a Set card on one of the Spell & Trap Zones. Undaunted, he drew a card and took his turn.

"It's my turn!" announced Matt.

Turn Two: Matt Fudo (LP: 4000)
Deck: 54
Current Hand (5): "Stronghold Guardian", "Junk Synchron", "Defense Draw", "Junk Defender", and "Mirror Ladybug"
Action Card: N/A

His drawn card was a Monster Card called 'Mirror Ladybug'.

"From my hand," continued Matt, adding the card into his hand before taking another from it, "I'll Summon 'Junk Synchron'!"

An orange, robotic-like monster appeared on the field (Level: 3/ATK: 1300/DEF: 500).

"'Junk Synchron's' monster effect activates!" Matt went on, "When this card is Normal Summoned: I can target 1 Level 2 or lower monster in my GY; I must Special Summon that target in Defense Position, but negate its effects," From there, a card ('Junkuriboh') slid out of Matt's GY, "Resurrect, 'Junkuriboh'!"

Reappearing on the field was the mechanical-looking 'Kuriboh' monster (Level: 1/ATK: 300/DEF: 200).

"Not only that… If I control at least 1 face-up monster and have no monsters in my GY, I can Special Summon this card (from my hand)," explained Matt, placing another card onto his Duel Runner, "Come, 'Mirror Ladybug'!"

Appearing onto the field was a ladybug with a mirror-like body (Level: 1/ATK: 100/DEF: 100).

"Next, I'll activate 'Mirror Ladybug's' second effect!" declared Matt, "When this card is Special Summoned this way: This card's Level becomes equal to the total Levels of all other monsters I control," He started talking about 'Junk Synchron' (Level: 3) and 'Junkuriboh' (Level: 1), "'Junk Synchron' is Level 3, and 'Junkuriboh' is Level 1…" And focus then went towards 'Mirror Ladybug', "This would make 'Mirror Ladybug' a Level 4 monster!"

'Mirror Ladybug's' Level was immediately modified (Level: 1 → 4).

"Amazing!" The voice of the MC cried out, who knew that Matt had the monsters to Synchro Summon a Level 8 monster, "Matt is completely outdueling Officer Truman!"

The audience remained excited for what came next, and so they listened to those words carefully.

"My Level 3 'Junk Synchron' tunes Level 4 'Mirror Ladybug' and Level 1 'Junkuriboh'!" The voice of Matt declared, as the above scenario played out just before 'Junk Synchron' pulled a cord on his armor and caused his motor backpack to start revving as his whole body started glowing a golden yellow, "Let's rev it up!"

As those final words were said, 'Junk Synchron' turned himself into three Synchro Rings, which both 'Mirror Ladybug' and 'Junkuriboh' soared into. The two monsters soon turned into five orbs of light (four from 'Mirror Ladybug', and one from 'Junkuriboh').

"Gathering fighting souls will awaken the raging wicked god! Become the path its light shines upon!" chanted Matt, while the symbols 4 + 1 + 3 = 8 were briefly shown before the five orbs of light within the trio of Synchro Rings turned into a beam of light, "Synchro Summon! Obliterate, 'Junk Destroyer'!"

Appearing onto the field in a fighting pose, when the Synchro Summon sequence ended, was a robotic male monster painted mostly black and with four arms and blades sticking out of his back (Level: 8/ATK: 2600/DEF: 2500).

"Now that's what I call a smart opening move," admired James R..

He was right for a reason…

"I activate 'Junk Destroyer's' monster effect!" announced Matt, as focus went towards his 'Junk Destroyer', "When this card is Synchro Summoned: I can target cards on the field, up to the number of non-Tuners used for the Synchro Summon of this card; I must…" He narrowed his eyes, "…destroy those targets!"

"What?!" cringed Paul, watching as 'Junk Destroyer' charged energy from his chest, "W-Wait a-!"

"Tidal Energy!" The voice of Matt shouted.

'Junk Destroyer' immediately fired off a tidal wave of energy across the track towards Paul's Security Duel Runner, striking all around him. 'Goyo Guardian' and the Set card were both destroyed, much to the gruff police officer's frustration and dismay.

"How dare you…!" grimaced Paul angrily, before looking up ahead and noticing an Action Card, "Hey! An Action Card's up ahead…"

"Battle!" announced Matt, entering the Battle Phase, "'Junk Destroyer', attack Officer Truman directly!" He announced his monster's attack name, all while 'Junk Destroyer' charged all four of his fists, "Destroy Knuckle!"

'Junk Destroyer' obeyed, winding up and hurling a four-way punch while firing off energy-based punches directed at the Security Duel Runner and its rider. However, Paul managed to snag the Action Card up ahead and activate it.

"Ah ha! Not so fast, punk!" laughed Paul, "I just grabbed an Action Card!"

On cue, an Action Spell Card called 'Evasion' materialized face-up on the field behind the Security Duel Runner.

"I activate the Action Spell, 'Evasion'!" The voice of Paul went on, as he was shown taking and sending his Action Spell Card to the GY, "When a monster declares an attack: I must target that monster; I must negate the attack."

With that said, he then made his Security Duel Runner jump into the air, avoiding the direct attack by 'Junk Destroyer'. Despite his failed attack, Matt was able to make Fudo Go overtake the Security Duel Runner.

"I Set one card…" As he spoke, Matt slotted a card into his Duel Runner, "…and end my turn."

A face-down card materialized on the field in-front of Fudo Go before fading away for later use.

"And so, both players have completed their first turns!" The voice of the MC declared, as Fudo Go and the Security Duel Runner raced down the track, "What else will this exciting duel bring? We'll have to watch and see for ourselves!"

In the stands…

"Come on, Matt! You can do it!" hollered Asagi, practically standing up from her seat while Mayura and Juri both looked at their best friend sheepishly, Ms. Simmons smiled a little painfully, and Mr. Kisaka sweatdropped a little bit, "Beat down that big jerk!"

Back on the track…

"Huh… So, you got yourself a big fan, eh?" teased Paul drawing a card, "Well, now she can see you lose to me!"

Matt, still keeping a neutral, stoic look on his face, merely kept quiet and waited to see what his opponent would do next.

Turn Three: Paul Truman (LP: 4000)
Deck: 53
Current Hand (3): "Synchro Gift", "Torapart", and "Monster Reborn"
Action Card: N/A

Paul saw that he drew the 'Monster Reborn' Spell Card.

"I activate the Spell Card, 'Monster Reborn'!" declared Paul, slotting the card into his Duel Runner. This resulted in the mentioned Spell Card materializing face-up on the field beside him (on his right) before it turned into the 'Goyo Guardian' Synchro Monster Card, "I must target 1 monster in either GY; I must Special Summon it. Resurrect, 'Goyo Guardian'!"

As expected, 'Goyo Guardian' reappeared from the face-up card and onto the field (Level: 6/ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000).

"From there, I'll Summon 'Torapart'!" Paul went on, placing another card onto his Duel Runner.

Appearing onto the field was the monster with two bodies—one on the top, and the other on the bottom (Level: 2/ATK: 600/DEF: 600).

"I hope you're ready for defeat, punk!" warned Paul, "I went easy on you last time, but this time around you're gonna get it!" He gave the command to both of his monsters, "My Level 2 'Torapart' tunes Level 6 'Goyo Guardian'!"

'Torapart' turned itself into two Synchro Rings, which enveloped 'Goyo Guardian' and turned it into six orbs of light as a quick Summon Chant was done by Paul…

"Prostrate before the power of authority!" chanted Paul, as the symbols 6 + 2 = 8 were shown briefly just before the six orbs within the two Synchro Rings turned into a beam of light and slammed onto the track behind the Security Duel Runner, "Synchro Summon! Appear! Level 8! 'Goyo King'!"

As the beam of light disbursed, appearing onto the field was quite possibly the strongest 'Goyo' monster around. Like the other members of the archetype, 'Goyo King' wielded a lariat weapon known as a naginata (Level: 8/ATK: 2800/DEF: 2000).

"'Goyo King'?" quizzed Matt, "That monster has the same ATK and DEF as 'Goyo Guardian'."

"Perhaps it does, but I will say this monster is still much deadlier," Paul pointed out, before entering the Battle Phase, "Get ready! I will first use 'Goyo King' to attack 'Junk Destroyer'!" He continued speaking as 'Goyo King' turned to face 'Junk Destroyer', "Next, I'll activate 'Goyo King's' first effect! When this card declares an attack on an opponent's monster: This card gains 400 ATK for each EARTH Warrior Synchro Monster I control, until the end of the Damage Step."

'Goyo King' grew stronger (ATK: 2800 → 3200). Matt, meanwhile, tried to do something about the attack…

"I activate a Trap!" announced Matt, as his Set card reappeared on the field beside him (on his left) only to crackled with blue electricity and not activate, "What?! Why's my Set card not-?"

"Don't tell me you've forgotten all about my 'Torapart's' effect," taunted Paul, seeing as he (Paul) used that card against Matt in their first duel, "If the Synchro Monster that used this card as Synchro Material attacks, my opponent cannot activate Trap Cards until the end of the Damage Step."

"Oh damn!" cried Lisa, "That means 'Junk Destroyer' will be at the mercy of 'Goyo King's' attack!"

"Matt!" called Asagi, looking pretty worried.

Back on the track, Matt knew he wouldn't be able to save his 'Junk Destroyer' once the attack was launched. However, he spotted an Action Card up ahead…

"An Action Card!" realized Matt, "It might be my only chance!"

And Fudo Go headed straight for the Action Card, but Paul took notice and sped his Duel Runner up to try and prevent Matt from getting it.

"Oh no, you don't, scumbag!" yelled Paul.

As Fudo Go got closer to the Action Card, Matt reached out to grab it, but then felt Fudo Go getting bashed in the side by the Security Duel Runner, causing him to cry out and briefly lose his balance before missing the Action Card.

"Whoa, mama! Officer Truman just stopped Matt from getting the Action Card!" The voice of the MC gasped, as Matt recovered, "He did it in a pretty brutal fashion, too!"

Over in the stands…

"Hey, that's not fair!" objected Carlie.

"In a Turbo Duel, everything's fair game," reminded Michael, looking grim over what Paul just did to Matt, "Even when doing something dirty like that."

"Urrrgh…" groaned James R., before pounding on the railing with his right fist, "Dang!"

Back on the track, things were going wrong for Matt… With his attempt to save himself and 'Junk Destroyer' having failed, 'Goyo King' turned and, while twirling his naginata, commenced his attack on 'Junk Destroyer', impaling the robotic-like monster in his chest with the weapon.

"'Junk Destroyer'!" exclaimed Matt.

'Junk Destroyer' exploded from his destruction, and the dirty blonde-haired young man braced himself from the backlash of the explosion as his LP took a hit (LP: 4000 → 3400). With the Damage Step over, 'Goyo King's' ATK also returned to normal (ATK: 3200 → 2800).

"But now, the fun's getting started!" chuckled Paul, "I activate the second effect of 'Goyo King'! When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the GY: I can activate 1 of these effects."

These were the effects written on the Monster Card in-question:
-"I must Special Summon that monster to my field!"
-"I must take control of 1 face-up monster my opponent controls!"

The audience recoiled when they heard those two effects; they knew what Paul was about to choose…

"That's right, I'll Special Summon your destroyed monster onto my field!" admitted Paul, "Come, 'Junk Destroyer'!"

Reappearing on the field, this time on Paul's side, was 'Junk Destroyer' (Level: 8/ATK: 2600/DEF: 2500).

"Best of all, this was done during my Battle Phase," reminded Paul, "This means I can use this monster to attack! Go forth, 'Junk Destroyer'! Attack the opposing player directly!" As he announced the monster's attack name, 'Junk Destroyer' readied to attack, "Destroy Knuckle!"

'Junk Destroyer' obeyed, charging all four fists, winding up, and hurling a punch while firing off energy-based punches directed at Fudo Go and its rider.

"That attack will send Fudo-san to 800 LP!" panicked David.

"He won't let a direct attack hit him that easily!" insisted James R..

Back on the track…

"I'm gonna be one step closer to winning, scumbag!" hollered Paul.

"Sorry, but you'll have to wait a little bit longer for that," interrupted Matt, taking a card from his hand and placing it onto a Monster Zone (sideways) on his Duel Runner, "I'll use 'Junk Defender' to block your attack!"

Appearing on the field was a Warrior monster that looked to be a combination of rock and machine (Level: 3/ATK: 300/DEF: 1800).

"What?! 'Junk Defender'?" stammered Paul.

"When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: I can Special Summon this card from my hand," said Matt, "In addition, I'll also activate 'Junk Defender's' second effect! Once per turn (Quick Effect): I can have this card gain 300 DEF until the end of this turn."

'Junk Defender' grew stronger on the defensive side (DEF: 1800 → 2100).

"So, what will you do now, officer?" dared Matt.

"Ngh… I'll continue my attack, that's what!" boomed Paul, entering a replay, "'Junk Destroyer', take out the trash!"

'Junk Destroyer' reluctantly obeyed, firing another energy blast from its fists.

"This is the end of your 'Junk Defender'!" declared Paul.

"I activate the monster effect of 'Stronghold Guardian'!" cut in Matt, revealing a card in his hand before sending it to the GY, "If a Defense Position monster I control is attacked, during the Damage Step (Quick Effect): I can send this card from my hand to the GY; that monster gains 1500 DEF, until the end of this turn."

Paul watched with shock as the spirit of a large castle-like monster briefly appeared on the field before merging with 'Junk Defender', resulting in the monster growing even more defensively powerful (DEF: 2100 → 3600).

"A DEF of 3600?! And it's too late to call off my attack!" panicked Paul.

True to this realization, 'Junk Destroyer's' attack was blocked by the castle-like barrier protecting 'Junk Defender' before reflecting back towards Paul, hitting him head on and making him yell out in pain and surprise from the recoil damage of his failed attacked (LP: 4000 → 3000). Over in the stands…

"Phew… I thought for certain Matt was going to take a big hit," sighed Mayura, relieved.

"Same here," agreed Juri.

"Big time," added Asagi, placing her right hand near her heart.

"Not too bad," mused Ms. Simmons, looking impressed with Matt's dueling.

Lisa was interested in seeing how the duel would continue when…

"Hey, Lisa," greeted Shani, who was suddenly sitting behind Lisa, "Great duel so far, right?"

"Ugh… What do you want now, Shani?" huffed Lisa.

The three Astray girls were, likewise, not happy to see Shani of Blue Cosmos.

"I'm just here to enjoy the other duels before I get to go and duel," answered Shani, "By the way, did I ever tell you four what my friends and I have been up to since the big duel back in January of 2010?"

"We're not interested in listening to more of your lies," retorted Mayura.

"They're not lies, it's all the truth!" insisted Shani, who was, of course, lying through his teeth, "When we and Headmaster Azrael returned to Blue Cosmos…"

Although Lisa, Asagi, Mayura, and Juri all listened to the story, they put more focus on watching the duel going on seeing as they didn't believe what Shani was telling them. Back on the track, Paul fumed that his attack backfired and hurt him instead.

"I… I'm gonna end my turn here," he grumbled.

"And since it's the End Phase," Matt pointed out, "'Junk Defender's' DEF returns to its original amount."

'Junk Defender's' defensive boost soon disappeared (DEF: 3600 → 1800).

"You'll have to drive faster to arrest me, officer," taunted Matt.

"Why you-!" snarled Paul, growing all the more infuriated, but decided to wait a little while before he was ready to unleash his pent up anger on his enemy, "It's your turn, scumbag!"

Both Duel Runners on the track completed another lap, and the audience was really getting into the duel. Currently, Matt was ahead, and he just needed to keep it that way while putting the pressure on his opponent.

"What a duel!" beamed Sean.

"I must concur, it is rather exhilarating," agreed David, "Fudo-san looks to be one duelist you should not trifle with."

"Even still, the match is far from over," reminded Janice, "It's Matt's turn now, and he can't afford to mess up."

"You're using Matt and mess up in the same sentence? Come on, I believe you're thinking way too much," dismissed James R., "Okay, he briefly forgot about 'Torapart's' effect a few minutes ago, but the point still stands!" David, Sean, and Janice each listened to him, "Matt's been in many tight spots throughout his dueling career, but he's always managed to make it through in the end. This duel will be no different."

"Although Matty-boy did lose to both myself and Thomas-boy at certain points in his career," said Discord knowingly, "This shows that he isn't as invincible as many people would claim he is."

Back on the track…

"It's my turn!" announced Matt, drawing a card.

Turn Four: Matt Fudo (LP: 3400)
Deck: 53
Current Hand (1): "Angel Baton"
Action Card: N/A

Almost immediately, he slotted the card into his Duel Runner. This resulted in the 'Angel Baton' Spell Card materializing face-up on the field in-front of Fudo Go.

"I activate the Spell Card, 'Angel Baton'!" Matt went on, drawing two cards, "I must draw 2 cards, then discard 1 card!"

Both cards were 'Rush Warrior' (Effect Monster Card) and 'Quillbolt Hedgehog' (Effect Monster Card). Matt immediately sent the former card ('Rush Warrior') to the GY, setting everything up for his plan.

"It's now set," he remarked.

"What's set?" pondered Paul, "What are you talking about?"

"You see, the card I've discarded was a monster known as 'Rush Warrior'," explained Matt, "I activate 'Rush Warrior's' second effect!" From there, a card ('Junk Synchron') ejected from his GY, "I can banish this card from my GY, then target 1 'Synchron' monster in my GY; I must add it to my hand."

Matt took the 'Junk Synchron' Tuner Monster Card from his GY and held it out to show the opponent—who was looking aghast.

"As you can see, I've picked 'Junk Synchron'," As Matt spoke on, he placed the retrieved card onto his Duel Runner, "From there, I'll Summon 'Junk Synchron', once again!"

'Junk Synchron' reappeared on the field (Level: 3/ATK: 1300/DEF: 500).

"And with 'Junk Synchron's' reappearance means I can Special Summon a Level 2 or lower monster from my GY in Defense Position with its effects negated," reminded Matt, taking another card ('Junkuriboh') from his GY and placing it onto his Duel Runner, "Resurrect, 'Junkuriboh'!"

Reappearing onto the field was the robotic 'Kuriboh' monster making "Kuri kuri!" sounds (Level: 1/ATK: 300/DEF: 200). Before long, 'Junk Defender', 'Junkuriboh', and 'Junk Synchron' were shown floating above the track together.

"My Level 3 'Junk Synchron' tunes Level 3 'Junk Defender' and Level 1 'Junkuriboh'!" The voice of Matt commanded, as the above scenario played out.

Once again, 'Junk Synchron' pulled a cord on his armor, causing his motor backpack to start revving as his whole body started glowing a golden yellow, turning himself into three Synchro Rings, which 'Junk Defender' and 'Junkuriboh' both soared through before turning into orbs of light (three from 'Junk Defender' and one from 'Junkuriboh') as Matt performed a Summon Chant…

"Gathering anger becomes an entranced warrior born from a brutal god. Become the path its light shines upon!" chanted Matt, as the symbols 3 + 1 + 3 = 7 were shown briefly just before the four orbs of light within the trio of Synchro Rings turned into a beam of light, "Synchro Summon! Howl, 'Junk Berserker'!"

Appearing onto the field and posing for battle, was a large, red, robotic male monster with a pair of wings and a large mechanical scythe weapon in his hands (Level: 7/ATK: 2700/DEF: 1800).

"Alright! It's 'Junk Berserker'!" whooped James R..

"It's about time we saw that one!" added Michael.

Back on the track…

"I activate 'Junk Berserker's' first effect!" announced Matt, "I can banish 1 'Junk' monster from my GY, then target 1 face-up monster my opponent controls; that target loses ATK equal to the banished monster's ATK."

"You can keep using that effect so long as you have 'Junk' monsters in your GY!" realized Paul.

"You're correct," confirmed Matt, as three cards ejected from his GY and he took and held them out, "I banish the following 'Junk' monsters from my GY!"

The 'Junk Synchron' Tuner Monster Card, the 'Junkuriboh' Effect Monster Card, and the 'Junk Defender' Effect Monster Card each materialized face-up on the field for a brief moment.

"They are 'Junk Synchron', 'Junkuriboh', and 'Junk Defender'!" continued Matt, as focus went towards the 'Junk Synchron' Tuner Monster Card, the 'Junkuriboh' Effect Monster Card, and the 'Junk Defender' Effect Monster Card as each of their ATK values flashed for a few moments, "Their combined ATK of 1300, 300, and 500 respectively will be removed from 'Goyo King's' ATK!"

The three face-up Monster Cards faded away in streaks of blue, while 'Goyo King' began glowing red as his ATK went way down (ATK: 2800 → 700).

"With your monster weakened," continued Matt, entering the Battle Phase, "I'll use 'Junk Berserker' to attack 'Goyo King'!"

'Junk Berserker' obeyed, diving towards the weakened 'Goyo King' with the scythe still in his hands.

"No… I can't let that punk get ahead of me again!" thought Paul furiously, before looking ahead, "Hold on… I can just use an Action Card like I did last time!"

Up ahead was an Action Card. 'Junk Berserker', meanwhile, got close enough to 'Goyo King' and raised its scythe, ready to bring it down on the weakened monster. As Paul grabbed the Action Card, 'Goyo King' was slashed and destroyed by 'Junk Berserker'.

"'Goyo King' has been destroyed!" declared Matt.

"Yes, he has," agreed Paul, "However, I've picked up an Action Card before he was destroyed."

From there, a face-up Action Spell Card called 'Damage Banish' materialized face-up on Paul's field, in-front of the Security Duel Runner.

"Action Spell, 'Damage Banish', activate!" declared Paul (LP: 3000), "If I would take battle damage: I must reduce it to 0. So while you've destroyed my monster, you did not do any damage to me!"

Matt scowled in response.

"I won't lose to you again!" warned Paul, "No matter what happens in this duel, I'm gonna get even with you for humiliating me back in San Francisco, I swear it!"

"Look, I was only defending that kid from a crime he did not commit!" protested Matt, "Why can't you get that through your-"

"SHUT UP!"

Over in the stands…

"Oh man, that was a close call," Male Police Officer 1 said with relief.

"I'm glad he managed to save himself," agreed Male Police Officer 2.

"Officer Truman is not doing too bad," thought Maria, "If only he wasn't in this tournament just to try and repair a bruised ego…"

Back on the duel track…

"I end my turn," concluded Matt, entering the End Phase.

"You know, so far, this has been a fun little duel, but I think it's time for me to put an end to it," grinned Paul, having recovered from his outburst.

"Put an end to it? How?" questioned Matt, "Your 'Junk Destroyer' isn't strong enough to attack my 'Junk Berserker'."

"We'll see about that," With that said, Paul drew a card, "I draw!"

Turn Five: Paul Truman (LP: 3000)
Deck: 52
Current Hand (2): "Synchro Gift" and "Miracle Synchro Fusion"
Action Card: N/A

His eyes widened with triumph when he saw that his drawn card was a Spell Card called 'Miracle Synchro Fusion'.

"It's here, at long last!" announced Paul.

"Huh?" gasped Matt, while in his mind… "Did he really draw a good enough card?"

Just then, a Spell Card called 'Miracle Synchro Fusion' materialized face-up on the field in-front of the Security Duel Runner.

"I activate the Spell Card, 'Miracle Synchro Fusion'!" exclaimed Paul, "I must Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck that lists a Synchro Monster as material, by banishing Fusion Materials listed on it from my field or GY."

"What?! A Fusion Monster that lists a Synchro Monster as Fusion Material?" cried Matt.

"Yes! And these are the two monsters I'm gonna fuse!" As Paul spoke, the spirits of both 'Goyo Guardian' and 'Goyo King' reappeared on the field, "Go forth, 'Goyo Guardian' and 'Goyo King'!"

The two monsters soared into a Fusion Vortex in the sky as Paul began a Summon Chant…

"The insatiable soul of the chaser and the proud soul of the predator. Now, become one and sublimate!" chanted Paul, before bringing both hands together, "Fusion Summon! Come out! Successor of the majestic predator's lineage! 'Goyo Emperor'!"

Appearing onto the field, when the Fusion Summon sequence ended, was a purple-haired Emperor wearing the 'Goyo' Mask while sitting on a large throne (Level: 10/ATK: 3300/DEF: 2500).

"What a surprise!" gawked the MC, "Officer Truman Fusion Summoned using two Synchro Monsters!"

Back on the track…

"Ha ha ha ha ha ha! There is no escape from the law for you now, scumbag!" laughed Paul, "This will be the final battle of the whole duel! When it's over, you will have a great jail cell to stay in!"

"You talk too much," growled Matt.

Well, that was certainly true.

"Go, 'Goyo Emperor'!" commanded Paul, entering the Battle Phase, "Attack 'Junk Berserker' with all your might!"

'Goyo Emperor', still sitting on his throne, obeyed; he glared at 'Junk Berserker' and breathed a stream of fire, destroying 'Junk Berserker' on contact. Matt braced himself from the shards of glass from his destroyed monster soared past him (LP: 3400 → 2800).

"I activate 'Goyo Emperor's' first effect!" announced Paul, "When this card, or a monster I control that is owned by my opponent, destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the GY: I can Special Summon that monster to my field."

As expected, 'Junk Berserker' reappeared on Paul's field.

"Matt's field is completely empty of monsters!" Juri was saying, urgently.

"And Officer Truman has access to two powerful monsters that can still attack!" added Lisa, "If Matt doesn't do something to stop them, he'll be screwed!"

"Oh no!" wailed Asagi.

Back on the track, Matt, still riding Fudo Go, kept a calm, collected look on his face. Soon, he spotted an Action Card up ahead. Paul, meanwhile, was all ready to end the duel…

"Go forth, 'Junk Destroyer'!" he ordered, "Attack the punk directly!"

'Junk Destroyer' was thrown towards Matt. The audience watched in horror, believing that it was all over for the dirty blonde-haired young man.

"I need more time to reach that Action Card," thought Matt, before deciding to make a sacrifice, "I activate a Trap, 'Defense Draw'!"

The face-down card reappeared on the field behind Fudo Go, flipped face-up, and revealed itself.

"During my opponent's turn, at damage calculation: I must make the battle damage I take from this battle 0, and if I do, draw 1 card," The voice of Matt explained, before he narrowed his eyes with determination to survive, "Your 'Junk Destroyer's' attack will not damage me!"

A protective barrier formed around him and Fudo Go, causing the attack from 'Junk Destroyer' not to collide and harm him, while also allowing him to draw one more card. He was getting closer to reaching the Action Card, but Paul still had one more monster that could attack…

"You may have blocked my first attack, but you won't be as lucky with this one!" declared Paul, "'Junk Berserker', attack the opponent directly!"

'Junk Berserker' was then thrown towards Matt. With the Action Card only inches away, Matt reached out to try and grab it, and grabbed it he did. However, 'Junk Berserker's' attack finally struck Fudo Go, causing it to spin out of control as Matt yelled out (LP: 2800 → 100). Laughing loudly, Paul drove his Security Duel Runner past Fudo Go as he took the lead in both speed and LP.

"He only has 100 LP left!" exclaimed Janice.

"Oh!" whimpered Gabriella, looking away as she (Gabriella) was then comforted by Futaba.

"Fudo-san!" cried David.

"Matt!" added Sean.

Back on the track, Matt managed to regain control of Fudo Go as he drove after the Security Duel Runner.

"You're almost down for the count, punk!" said Paul mockingly, "With only 100 LP and me being in control of three strong monsters, with two originally belonging to you, you have no real chance of victory!"

Matt didn't say a word in response, though he remained calm and stoic-looking despite being dangerously close to being defeated.

"So, are you ready to admit defeat, or shall I personally deliver it to you on my next turn?" The voice of Paul pressed, while he continued to look and act all smug-like, "There's no real shame in admitting you can't win against me, you know."

At last…

"No," answered Matt simply.

"What?!" demanded Paul.

Matt finally looked up, "Even if I have only a single LP or a single card left in my Deck, I ever won't quit," he went on, before pointing forth with his right hand, "No matter what happens in this duel, I will defeat you again, Officer Truman!"

"What futile resistance…" frowned Paul, "I end my turn!"

"Matt's had a close shave!" The MC was saying, while Matt stared at his Deck, "But he's taken some huge damage. Can he get back on his feet?"

The audience remained hushed as Matt reached for his Deck.

"The answer is in my Deck," he thought to himself, "My cards… please give me the answer I seek…"

Finally, Matt drew a card using a Destiny Draw.

Turn Six: Matt Fudo (LP: 100)
Deck: 49
Current Hand (3): "Quillbolt Hedgehog", "One for One", and "Righty Driver"
Action Card: "Invisibility"

Without looking at his card, a small, triumphant smile crept onto his face.

"It's go time," whispered Matt.

Paul looked up, waiting anxiously for what would happen next. Finally, the comeback move commenced…

"I Summon 'Righty Driver'!" began Matt, before placing his drawn card onto a Monster Zone on his Duel Runner.

Appearing onto the field was a blue-haired robotic woman with her right arm appearing as a screwdriver (Level: 1/ATK: 100/DEF: 300).

"I activate 'Righty Driver's' effect!" As Matt spoke, he took a card from his Deck, "If this card is Normal Summoned: I can Special Summon 1 'Lefty Driver' from my hand, Deck, or GY," He placed the card onto his Duel Runner, "Come, 'Lefty Driver'!"

Appearing onto the field was a yellow-haired robotic woman with a screwdriver for her left arm (Level: 2/ATK: 300/DEF: 100).

"'Lefty Driver's' first effect!" continued Matt, "If this card is Special Summoned: I can make this card become Level 3 until the end of this turn."

"Level 3?" snorted Paul, thinking the move was pointless.

As expected, 'Lefty Driver's' Level was modified (Level: 2 → 3). Far from being done, Matt took another card from his hand and held it out.

"Now, I'll activate the Spell Card, 'One for One'!" declared Matt, then discarding a card ('Quillbolt Hedgehog') before drawing and holding out another card ('Sonic Chick'), "I must send 1 monster from my hand to the GY; I must Special Summon 1 Level 1 monster from my hand or Deck," He placed the card onto his Duel Runner, "Come forth, 'Sonic Chick'!"

Appearing onto the field was a pink Roadrunner wearing red running boots (Level: 1/ATK: 300/DEF: 300).

"Not only that, I'll also activate the monster effect of 'Quillbolt Hedgehog'!" exclaimed Matt, holding out a card ('Quillbolt Hedgehog') he took from his GY, "If this card is in my GY: I can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. I must control a Tuner to activate and to resolve this effect," He smiled slightly for a few seconds before placing his retrieved card back onto his Duel Runner, "And I do control a Tuner monster in 'Righty Driver'…! Resurrect, 'Quillbolt Hedgehog'!"

Appearing on the field was the familiar orange-colored hedgehog with bolts for quills (Level: 2/ATK: 800/DEF: 800).

"I should also tell you that 'Righty Driver' also can substitute any 'Synchron' Tuner," Matt pointed out.

"Any 'Synchron' Tuner?!" winced Paul.

"Right, and I choose it to be 'Junk Synchron'," confirmed Matt, before clenching his right hand into a fist and swinging it about, "Level 1 'Righty Driver' tunes Level 3 'Lefty Driver', Level 2 'Quillbolt Hedgehog', and Level 1 'Sonic Chick'!"

'Righty Driver' hovered into the air and turned herself into a single, yet large, Synchro Ring, and 'Lefty Driver', 'Quillbolt Hedgehog', and 'Sonic Chick' each soared into it before turning into six orbs of light (three for 'Lefty Driver', two for 'Quillbolt Hedgehog, and one for 'Sonic Chick') as Matt echoed a Summon Chant…

"Gathering roars turn into an echoing arrow which tears through the sky! Become the path its light shines upon!" chanted Matt, as the symbols 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 7 were shown briefly just before the six orbs of light within the lone Synchro Ring turned into a beam of light, "Synchro Summon! Show yourself, 'Junk Archer'!"

Appearing onto the field and posing for battle, was an orange robotic male warrior armed with a mechanical bow (Level: 7/ATK: 2300/DEF: 2000). With 'Quillbolt Hedgehog' gone from the field, it had gotten banished due to its own effect.

"Oooohhh! This is it, folks!" The voice of the MC cheered, as though he saw 'Junk Archer' once before and the audience watched with excitement and focus went towards 'Junk Archer', "One of Matt's major players, 'Junk Archer', has finally appeared!"

"'Junk Archer'?!" stammered Paul, "What good will that piece of junk do you? Its ATK is too low to battle any of my monsters!" He then smirked, "Not like it matters much to me."

"Hm?" pondered Matt.

"I activate 'Goyo Emperor's' second effect!" replied Paul, ready to really end things with his opponent, "When my opponent Special Summons a monster(s), except during the Damage Step: I can Tribute 1 EARTH Warrior Synchro Monster; I must take control of that monster(s)," He pointed at 'Junk Destroyer', "I will Tribute the 'Junk Destroyer' I took from you and take control of your final monster, 'Junk Archer'!"

'Junk Destroyer' vanished in blue streaks as 'Goyo Emperor' fired a ball of fire towards 'Junk Archer'.

"Once 'Junk Archer' is mine, you'll have nothing left!" declared Paul.

"And you're certain of that?" pondered Matt, which caused his opponent to flinch, "You see, I was waiting for this exact moment!" He held his Action Spell Card out, "My Action Spell, 'Invisibility'!"

The ball of fire continued approaching 'Junk Archer', but the Warrior Synchro Monster suddenly turned invisible and caused the attack to miss its target. Once the attack went through its intended victim, 'Junk Archer' rematerialized in the flesh.

"Th-That can't…be!" exclaimed Paul.

"'Invisibility's' effect… I must target 1 monster I control; this turn, it cannot be targeted by my opponent's card effects, also it is unaffected by other card effects," said Matt, "That means 'Junk Archer' remains mine, and you've Tributed 'Junk Destroyer' for nothing."

"That still doesn't mean 'Junk Archer' can defeat the remaining two monsters!" argued Paul, "That's something I know quite well!"

"In that case, why don't we test out that theory?" suggested Matt, "'Junk Archer'! Dimension Shoot!"

'Junk Archer' obeyed, raising his bow and firing an energized arrow at 'Goyo Emperor'.

"Your attack won't leave a dent in my monster!" berated Paul.

"Who says I'm attacking?" corrected Matt, smiling thinly, "This…is 'Junk Archer's' monster effect!"

"Effect?!"

And so, Paul had to watch helplessly as 'Goyo Emperor' was hit by the energized arrow, causing him to be fade away into oblivion.

"My 'Goyo Emperor'!" panicked Paul.

"'Junk Archer's' effect!" announced Matt, "Once per turn: I can target 1 monster my opponent controls; I must banish it. The banished monster returns to the opponent's field during the End Phase of this turn!"

"Ugh… If this face-up card leaves the field, I must return control of all monsters I control to the owner," grimaced Paul, who, by explaining 'Goyo Emperor's' third effect, knew that that control of 'Junk Berserker' had been lost—who managed to break free of the hold 'Goyo Emperor' had on him, "Because of that, you'll regain control of the 'Junk Berserker' I took from you!"

'Junk Berserker', now freed, returned to Matt's field.

"'This' is the final battle of the duel!" said Matt sharply, entering the Battle Phase, "Go forth, 'Junk Berserker'! Attack the opposing player directly!"

Paul scowled, "Damn it! I refuse to be defeated by you again!" he bellowed, before noticing a duo of Action Cards up ahead, "An Action Card!"

"I won't let you!" shouted Matt, as he sped Fudo Go up.

Both Duel Runners were approaching the two Action Cards ahead.

"Both duelists are aiming to grab an Action Card!" The MC realized, growing increasingly anxious for the final results as he slammed his left hand onto the top part of the podium, "Depending on the card picked up, it will either make it or break it for Officer Truman!"

Both Duel Runners were neck-to-neck, and both riders reached out to grab the Action Cards. At last, the two cards…were grabbed. Matt looked at his Action Card and said nothing. But when Paul looked at his Action Card, he smiled big and let out a loud laugh over thinking that he would survive this turn if he used it, now.

"I've got it… I've got it!" bellowed Paul, before holding his Action Spell Card out, "I activate the Action Spell, 'Big Escape'! I must end the Battle Phase! I'm safe from your series of direct attacks!"

"I'm going to have to disagree with you there," Matt responded back, smiling grimly.

Before Paul could respond, he saw, to his horror, the Action Spell Card in his right hand fizzling away into nothingness.

"M-M-My Action Card-!" shuddered Paul, "What's happening to it?"

"My own Action Spell counters yours!" declared Matt, holding out the Action Spell Card he just picked up, "I activate 'No Action'! I must negate the activation and the effect of an Action Spell Card, and if I do, destroy it," Poor Paul listened to his (Matt) sentence in a stunned state, "That means you won't be able to escape from either of my final attacks!" He then gave a command to one of his monsters, "'Junk Berserker', continue your direct attack!"

'Junk Berserker' obeyed, slashing his scythe at Paul and the Security Duel Runner, causing him to yell out as his LP dropped low (LP: 3000 → 300).

"No… Not again!" thought Paul, awaiting for the end to come.

"The final blow!" boomed Matt, all while 'Junk Archer' raised his bow, "'Junk Archer', attack the opposing player directly!" He announced his monster's attack name, as 'Junk Archer' raised the weapon up, "Scrap Arrow!"

'Junk Archer' obeyed, firing an arrow that struck Paul's Security Duel Runner, all while Paul himself grimaced over the fact he lost to Matt again (LP: 300 → 0).

DUEL RESULTS: Matt Fudo wins!

Steam emitted from the Security Duel Runner (while the monitor repeatedly flashed the word 'Defeat'), causing it to stop in the middle of the track.

"THE DUEL IS OVER!" howled the MC, while motioning his right arm upward at the monitor behind him, "The winner of the duel is Matt Fudo!"

The monitor turned itself on and displayed Matt's picture as the caption 'Duel Winner' appeared below the picture. The audience burst into loud cheers over the great duel.

"Matt won! I knew he could do it!" whooped Asagi, happily wrapping her arms around both Mayura and Juri (Lisa dodged) while practically crushing them in a hug, "I'm so happy for him!"

"What an awesome duel that was!" came from Mayura, completely unfazed over the fact Asagi was crushing her.

"Air, please!" wheezed Juri, not being able to breathe from being in the tight hug.

Nearby with both Ms. Simmons and Mr. Kisaka…

"Well now, he really is as good as I've heard and more," admired Ms. Simmons.

"Say, are you thinking of taking him under your wing?" asked Mr. Kisaka.

Ms. Simmons didn't reply back, but it looked like she was in deep thought over the idea. Near one of the stadium entryways/exits, Megan was back to addressing the viewers who were watching the tournament on TV.

"And we have a winner, it's Matt Fudo!" The raven-haired young woman was saying, "Of course, we need to give some credit to Officer Truman for pushing our hero into a corner. Anyway, stay tuned for the next match coming real soon! Until then, please standby as we go to a break."

And the cameraman shut off the camera. Back on the track, Paul fumed as he wheeled his Security Duel Runner away to the gateway he came out of before the duel. As he approached one of the gateways, two police officers and Maria showed up to greet their boss.

"Sir, we're all really sorry you lost," Male Police Officer 1 said apologetically.

"But you did really well out there," added Male Police Officer 2.

"Just save it…" growled Paul, who was not in the mood for talking at the moment, "I'm never going to live this down."

"Sir, you've dueled really well against Matt and nearly won," Maria pointed out, "That's what I would call a great accomplishment for somebody like you."

Paul ignored the praise he was getting from his (Paul) fellow police officers, and merely turned to hatefully glare at Matt, who had stopped Fudo Go nearby.

"Bastard, you've lucked out again," he thought to himself, seething, "But still, this ain't over between you and me… I swear, if you step out of line even once, I'll be after you like a hawk, ya lousy scumbag."

Over with Matt, he merely sat on his Duel Runner, removed his helmet, and silently looked up at the stadium stands as everybody cheered for him over the win. This was just the beginning of a big tournament, and so there were a ton more surprises yet to come.

And so, Rex's whole new Turbo Duel tournament has officially taken off quite successfully with Matt defeating Paul for a second time—the first time was in "Team 4D's", so read that story for the context. The next chapter will feature "two" duels instead of "one"! Stay tuned for 'em!
