Here's the second chapter of my Pokemon fanfic. In this chapter will see Charles early life before he sets of on his Pokemon Journey. Hope you enjoy.

Farla- Thank you for review. I didn't know what to expect from my first review, but I wasn't expecting this. Not that I didn't like it, quite the opposite. I'm very new to writing full length stories (only written my first story a week ago to be exact) so any criticism is good criticism. I will use what you told me and I will edit the first chapter. Thank you.

Chapter Two: The Early Years

Pallet Town

Four Years Later

The sun rose over a small peaceful town in the Kanto Region. This hamlet is called Pallet Town and it is known by many trainers as the location of Professor Oak's Laboratory. The laboratory stands on top of a tall hill overlooking a gentle river. It was made of yellow bricks and a red tile roof. Behind the lab was a large windmill gently spinning.

The laboratory was not just for research, but also a home for a certain seven year old boy and his pichu.

The pichu is a small electric rodent with large pointed ears. It was different than the others of its kind as they usually have yellow fur and light red cheeks. However, this pichu's fur was golden with dark red cheeks. This did not bother the boy in the slightest and loved him all the same.

We see the boy and his pichu both fast asleep in their bedroom made just for them in the lab. The walls of the room is littered with photos of various Pokemon found at the lab's corral as well as himself, the pichu and a certain pink haired girl.

The pichu was snuggled comfortably in the human boy's arms. Dreaming of the amazing birthday their both going to have today.

This was Charles Roberts and his pichu, Benny. This was the same boy and Pokemon who was found by the chansey four years ago on this day.

-Flashback Four Years Ago-

It was morning at Viridian City's Pokemon Centre and Nurse Joy, along with her daughter Flo, unlocked the Centre's doors.

Usually, Flo would still be sleeping this early, but she was determined to meet this strange new boy.

The nurse hanged up her and Flo's coats before preceding to the wards.

They found the Chansey still looking over the boy and his egg; not having moved an inch from when they left her the previous night.

The Egg Pokemon acknowledges them with a tired smile and dark bags under her eyes.

("Morning,") she said before turning back to the sleeping patient.

"Chansey, have you been up all night?" Nurse Joy asked the Pokemon with concern as Flo ran up to the boy's bed and occasionally observing the Pokemon egg on his side table.

("It's fine -yawn- I don't mind,") the Pokemon assured, even though she knew the nurse wouldn't understand her.

The boy eyes started to open hesitantly.

"Mama, mama! He's awake!" Flo cried at her mother.

"Flo not so loud, he just woke up," Nurse Joy scolded her daughter lightly, before turning back to the patient.

The nurse approached the boy's bed and smiled kindly as he sat up.

"Hello there, my name is Nurse Joy," she motioned towards the pink Pokemon "and this is the chansey who found you last night..."

"I'm Florence, but you can call me Flo. Why were you hurt?" Flo interrupted mother.

The boy seemed taken back by Flo's introduction and the unfamiliar people surrounding him.

Eventually, he picked up the courage to speak.

"My name is Charles, Charles Roberts. Where are we?" he asked drawing confused looks from the others.

Glancing at the Pokemon egg on the side table, Nurse Joy realised he meant him and the egg.

"You and the egg are in Viridian City's Pokemon Centre. Charles can you tell us what happened last night?"

Charles scrunched his face in concentration before looking down and shaking his head.

"No, I'm sorry."

"Well, do you know where your from?" Nurse Joy asked.

Charles shook his head.

"Do you know who your parents are?"

He shook his head again.

The Nurse and Pokemon shot concerned looks.

("I think we need to call Officer Jenny,") the chansey said sadly to herself not expecting anybody to understand what she is saying.

"Who's Officer Jenny?" Charles asked the Pokemon.

The room fell silent when he asked that question, Chansey was staring in shock at the young boy.

Nurse Joy eventually broke the silence.

"How do you know Office Jenny, Charles?" confused by Chansey's shocked expression.

"Chansey just said we need to call Officer Jenny. Did I say something wrong?" Charles replied casually.

Silence fell once again.

Chansey broke out of her shock. ("Charles, can you understand what I am saying?") She asked.

"Yeah, I can understand you, why?"

The room fell once more into silence.

"I think we also need to call Professor Oak, as well," Nurse Joy muttered.

Half an hour later the Viridian City's Officer Jenny arrived.

She was a pretty woman in her twenties with short aqua blue hair and wore a blue female police officer uniform. Like the Nurse Joy's, all the females in her family are identical.

She asked Charles the same questions Nurse Joy asked him. He couldn't remember anything about his parents, where he was from or where he got the egg. All he knew was his name and he wanted to keep the egg safe.

Officer Jenny had her work cut out for her.

She concluded that he suffered from trauma and was unlikely to remember anything about his past.

By the time she was done, Professor Oak arrived from Pallet Town.

Professor Oak is a man in his late sixties with grey hair and was rarely seen without his white lab coat.

Using Chansey's assistance, Professor Oak carried out some tests into whether Charles can talk to Pokemon. He would write down a difficult sentence for Chansey to say out loud and have Charles translate what she said. After thirty tries involving various different Pokemon, Professor Oak was astonish to find Charles past every test. The professor would of continued with more tests if it wasn't for the chansey scolding him for exhausting the poor boy.

Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny and Professor Oak needed to make a decision to what will happen to Charles.

Officer Jenny was going to hold a region wide search for anybody who will claim Charles. If that didn't work she would contact the other Officer Jennys in other regions. Meanwhile the boy would have to be sent to an orphanage.

The chansey was distraught with that decision.

("What! You can't send him to an orphanage. What happens if he never gets adopted or he gets bullied or...") the chansey cried waving her stubby arms in distress.

Officer Jenny assumed that the chansey didn't like idea of Charles going to orphanage judging by her frantic actions.

"I'm sorry chansey, but he can't stay at the Pokemon Centre forever," she told the disheartened Pokemon.

"I would let Charles live in one of the spare rooms in my laboratory, but I'm too busy to look after him," the elderly professor offered, "maybe if someone would volunteer to care for him..." he continued.

The chansey stopped listening and looked towards Charles who was happily talking to Flo on the wards bed.

She started to remember how much pain he was in and how confused he was trying to remember anything about his past. She also remembered how happy he was talking to her and how relieved she was when she learned he was ok. She wanted to protect him and give him a better life then he currently has. For the first time in her life, the chansey has maternal feeling towards anybody.

Her mind made up, she turned to the three humans.

("I'll do it, I'll will adopt him,") the chansey confidently declared as she pointed one of her stubby arms at herself.

By the looks of the adult's human faces, they didn't need Charles to translate what she said.

- Flashback End -

They tried to talk her out of it and the chansey couldn't blame them. No Pokemon has ever adopted a human child before. However, she was stubborn and soon the adult humans surrendered with Officer Jenny mumbling how she was going to explain this to her superiors.

After that, Charles, Chansey and the egg moved in to the Pokemon Laboratory. Charles seemed happy to be adopted by the chansey as he was more comfortable with her than anyone else. He was also glad when he leaned that Flo also lived in Pallet Town with her father. Nurse Joy only lived in Viridian City to be closer to the Pokemon Centre, but would come home to Pallet Town for the weekend or holidays. The Pallet Town residents welcomed the young boy and the Pokemon warmly, although it took them a while to get used to the rather odd family.

The search for Charles' biological parents continued, but after a year of searching, the Officer Jennys across the regions could not find anybody who will claim Charles as their own and so allowed the chansey to fully adopt Charles as her own. With his birthday on the day he was found.

The chansey had become a great a mother to Charles in the meantime. She gave him everything he would need clothes, food, books to help him read and write. She even attended every pre-school play Charles was in, giving him (very loud) exclamations of 'that's my baby' and 'isn't he amazing' every time he was on stage, much to Charles' embarrassment.

She was so happy when she learned she can fully adopt Charles she evolved into a blissey on the spot

It was on the morning of Charles's fourth birthday, that the Pokemon egg hatched to reveal a young pichu. Charles was ecstatic with having a younger brother and named him Benny soon after. Professor Oak noted the pichu's odd colour and would of run some tests if it wasn't for the boys' mother giving him a stern look.

The human and Pokemon brothers have been joined at the hip ever since. Nobody ever saw one brother without seeing the other around.

We now go back to the morning of the brothers' birthday.

A figure creeps in to the boy's bedroom and tiptoes to the bed they were on.

The figure intakes a large breath and-

("HAPPY BIRTHDAY!") the blissey shouted causing the two boys to scream and for Charles to scream again as Benny accidentally electrocuted him.

Seeing the charred state of her oldest son and her youngest apologising to him, the blissey rubbed the side of her head guiltily.

("Oops, maybe that wasn't the best idea,") she admitted nervously.

The elder brother recovered quickly and assured Benny that he was alright. When you are raised with an electric type you tend to get used to shocks.

"Good morning, mum," (Morning, mum") the boy's greeted together.

("Come here both of you,") recovering from earlier to kiss them repeatedly on their faces.

The brothers let their mother kiss them, they've learned long ago it's was better for her to finish her kissing assault then to try and escape it. Eventually she finished and hugged them both.

("I can't believe you two are both a year older. I can still remember the day you both came into my life.") she told them proudly.

She released her hold on the two boys who smiled up at her.

"You say that every year, mum," Charles told her humorously.

Charles turned to his brother excitedly, "Three more years, Benny and we can finally go on our journey."

("Yes! I can't wait to go,") Benny said just as excited as Charles.

Ever since a five year old Charles watched his first Pokemon battle on t.v, he has been obsessed in becoming a trainer. And when Benny hatched, Charles got him hooked as well. The two would often practice techniques and come up with strategies on how to defeat their rivals.

Of course, Charles knew that becoming a trainer doesn't just mean battling, but also seeing the world, meeting new exotic Pokemon and forming bonds between humans and Pokemon. This is why he doesn't believe in catching Pokemon via battle and would rather invite Pokemon to be part of his family.

The boys' mother, however, didn't share the enthusiasm.

("No please don't talk about leaving, that's still a long time away,") the blissey wailed sadly.

She instantly perked up. ("What we can talk about are my precious boys' big day. Now get dressed and I'll make your breakfasts,") she sang as she waddled out of the room.

The boys watched her go before turning towards the large Indigo League poster above their beds.

("We're almost there Charles, I just know that this is going to be a great day,") Benny said excitedly.

"I know, let's get ready," replied Charles before they both got out of bed to prepare for their big day.

A day that they would remember for the rest of their lives.

If anybody would like to recommend any Pokemon Charles will encounter on his journey and how they will meet please say in the comments. Otherwise, please leave a review and say what you liked about it. Bye.
