Here's the next chapter. If you like to recommend any Pokemon (Kanto region for now) to join Charles' team please leave a review. All of Charles' Pokemon and their names can be found on my profile.

Guest - Definitely. I think I already mentioned Charles having a full team of eeveelutions.

IceNeo2 - Thank you for the kind support. Also, how could I forget bellossom? They're one of the most cutest Pokemon ever. Although, I wanted to focus on Kanto Pokemon for the moment. Hmmm I'll think of something.

mermizzle - Thank you. I'm glad you are enjoying it. However, I'm sorry to say, but I would only be focusing on Kanto Pokemon for now. I'm a relatively new to the Pokemon franchise and I have only watched up to Black and White so far, meaning I have no knowledge of Galar or its Pokemon. Although I did look them up and have to agree with you they are pretty.

Hexal- Most definitely. Name any cute Pokemon and Charles will eventually add it to the family, no doubt.

Martin - Perhaps. Perhaps not. I don't want to Charles to be too OP. I mean what sort of trainer would only fight with legendary Pokemon. -cough Tobias cough-

lonetigar20 - Wait no longer, my friend. Glad your enjoying it so far.

Chapter 10: The Green, Green, Grass Pokemon

"Achoo!" Charles suddenly sneezed, covering his mouth and nose with his hand.

("Bless you,") the Benny squeaked as he leapt onto the his shoulder.

"Thanks. That's strange where did that sneeze come from?" Charles asked, he doesn't usually get hay fever and there wasn't any dust floating around.

"Maybe somebody somewhere is talking about you," Flo suggested with a shrug.

"Well, I hope they weren't insulting me," Charles grumbled, making his travelling companions giggle.

It has been a week since they had left Cerulean City and they spent the time travelling passed small farmhouses and battling local trainers. They even visited an unofficial gym run by a boy named AJ who challenged Charles to a battle. Charles and Benny defeated AJ and his sandshrew much to AJ displeasure. They were now traveling through a thick forest.

Before leaving Cerulean City, Charles thought Mystic deserved a rest and sent her back to Oak's lab. Of course, Mystic didn't like the idea at first, but Charles promised her extra big hugs when she returned. Flo and Benny were, of course, embarrassed that they were causing such a scene at the Pokemon Centre. Another reason for sending her back was so he can bond and train his newer Pokemon.

Cleo liked to nap, a lot. Charles often finds her resting up in a sunny area or up a tree. He doesn't necessarily have a problem with this, but he still liked to get her to socialise with the rest of the team more. It's not like he can force her, she's her own Pokemon after all. So Charles proposed an idea to Cleo. For every one minute she socialises with the team and trains she'll get two minutes of rest. This mean if she trains for five minutes she is allowed ten minutes of rest. Cleo seemed happy with the idea and has been following through with it. Hopefully, Charles would be able to get her to socialise more and more, but for now this will do.

Despite her lazy attitude, Cleo knows an impressive amount of moves. They were mainly normal moves, but she also knows some dark moves as well. Charles plans to expand her horizons by leaning other type moves like water and fire.

Echo is the most humblest of the team. He liked to stay out of direct sunlight and chat with Charles about battle strategies, places they wanted to visit or just anything in general. Some of the more outgoing Pokemon in Charles' team like Hurricane and Boa would consider Echo to be...well, kind of boring. Charles would often scold them for being so rude to Echo, but the zubat didn't seem to mind.

In terms of battling, Echo didn't have a varied skill set, possibly due to never having battled before. Seeing that electrical types is one of Echo's greatest weakness, Charles asked Benny to help train him in what to expect from an electrical attack. Echo's other great weakness include rock and psychic types. Charles wasn't worried too much on psychic attacks since Echo can learn a few dark type attacks and even a ghost type move. However, rock type attacks was the main concern since zubat do not have many moves to counter it. Charles will think of something, eventually.

Last, but not least was Sneak. The sandshrew still insists in his hobby much to the annoyance of the rest of the team. Charles tried to find a way to break the habit, but Sneak was very stubborn. When Charles talked to Sneak he could tell he was a bit slow and took him a bit longer to understand things. However, Charles did uncover one thing when he talked to the Pokemon.

-Flashback two days ago-

"So Sneak, what do think of the journey so far?" Charles asked the sandshrew. The team was having a rest by the side of a dirt road. While Flo prepared lunch and the Pokemon played with each other, Charles took Sneak further away so they can have a proper conversation.

("Who's journey?") Sneak replied in confusion, causing Charles to sweat drop.

"Our journey," Charles answered.

The sandshrew blinked, not getting what he meant.

"The one you and the rest of the team are on," Charles answered further.

("Oh right,") Sneak said in realisation, ("it's good.")

Charles waited for him to continue, but soon realised he was actually done.

"Well, what do you like about it?" Charles prompted.

The sandshrew lowered his head in thought while Charles waited patiently. After a couple of seconds of Sneak thinking, Charles sweat dropped again. He wondered if Sneak had actually forgotten the question and was about to remind him when the sandshrew raised his head again.

("I can sneak up on my team,") he answered brightly, causing Charles to internally sigh.

Charles tried a different strategy, "What do you like about sneaking up on others, Sneak?" he asked, in hope of getting a better answer out of the sandshrew.

Sneak shrugged, ("It's the only thing I'm good at,") he replied honestly.

That caught Charles' attention. He knew he liked sneaking up on Pokemon and people, but to declare that it was the only thing he was good at and say it so matter of factly. It was concerning.

"What do you mean? I'm sure your good at other things," Charles inquired.

Sneak just shook his head, ("Nope just that.")

"And may I ask why you are so sure?"

("Because I'm too stupid to do anything else,") Sneak answered with a shrug, seemingly not bothered by what he said.

Charles just stared in shock at the sandshrew while he casually sniffed a flower. He never thought anybody would admit that and be so unbothered by it. Charles wondered who told him that.

"Why...why do you think your stupid, Sneak?" Charles asked in concern.

The sandshrew looked down at the ground, ("All the Pokemon at Mt Moon think I am. They never said it to my face, but I know what they say about me. I'm don't know many battle moves and the ones I do I mess up or never remember. I'm just useless,") Sneak said.

Charles was shocked even more. Not only by what he said, but how normally he said it. It was like he was stating a fact.

("Can I play with the others, please?") Sneak asked politely.

Charles shook of his shock, "Err yes. It was nice to talk to you, Sneak."

The sandshrew nodded, (It was nice to talk to you too...err...what's your name again?")

"It's Charles," he answered rubbing the sandshrew head.

Sneak nodded again and headed towards the other Pokemon, leaving Charles saddened by the conversation.

-Flashback End -

He told Flo and Benny about it and they were equally as concerned. They asked Alette about it, but the clefairy was just as shocked. Sure the other clefairy and clefables tended to ignore him, but they didn't think he was stupid.

Charles sighed in sadness, catching Flo and Benny's attention.

"Thinking about Sneak, Charles?" Flo asked. He couldn't blame him, she was just as upset about the sandshrew's wellbeing.

Charles just nodded.

Benny petted the side of his brother's face comfortingly, ("I'm sure we'll work something out") he reassured.

"I know, but I don't want any of my team to feel like they are useless. We need to find a way to-"

("HEY, HEY YOU!") a feminine voice shouted, cutting Charles mid sentence.

That's when a Pokemon jumped out of the trees and into the group's path. It was an oddish, a grass Pokemon with a small, round, blue body and stubby feet. On top of its head were large green leaves. The oddish glared at the group aggressively as if they just insulted her.

("GO AWAY! YOUR ON MY TURF! IF YOU DON'T LEAVE NOW I'LL...I'LL...IT BE REALLY BAD FOR YOU!") the oddish screamed at them jumping up and down to look more intimidating.

"What's it saying?" Flo asked as she frowned at the angry oddish.

"She says we're on her turf," Charles translated before turning to the Pokemon, "We're just passing through. We mean no harm to you," Charles reassured.

This did nothing, however, as the oddish's face turned red in anger.

("I DON'T CARE! GET OUT OF HERE N-") the oddish stopped everything and stood very still. The leaves on her head shook slightly before coming to a standstill.

The Pokemon then ran back into the forest and out of sight.

("That was weird,") Benny remarked looking at the direction the oddish ran off to.

"What do you think that was all about?" Charles asked to no one in particular. He took out his pokedex to check the entry for oddish.

Oddish: During the day, it keeps its face buried in the ground. At night, it wanders around sowing its seeds.

Flo frowned, "I don't know, but whatever she's going to must be important," Flo said, "I have a feeling that's not the last time we will see her."

Charles and Benny nodded in agreement.

It has been thirty minutes since the encounter with the oddish and the group were considering stopping for a break. Charles' mind was still fresh with the incident. As far as he knows, oddish are not naturally territorial, so it was strange for one to act like that. It was even stranger that it took off suddenly like that.

While Charles was in mid-thought, Benny leaped down from his shoulder and stretched his legs. Flo, meanwhile, found a shaded clearing for them to sit down for a moment.

"Hey, that looks like a good place to stop," Flo called out, pointing to a large oak tree.

As she approached the tree, Charles noticed a nearby bush rustling slightly. Gasping in realisation, Charles ran up to Flo and pushed her out of the way of an orange cloud that spewed out of the bush. They both landed on the ground as safe distance from the Spun Spore attack. Benny got down on all fours and sparked his cheeks threateningly.

("How dare you attack us! Come on out now!") Benny demanded at the bush, while Flo helped Charles to his feet.

Jumping out of the bush was the was the oddish from before. Apparently her anger has not gone away from the last encounter.

("HOW DARE ME!? HOW DARE YOU! I WANED YOU ALL TO GET LOST!") she shouted at Benny threatening to attack once again.

Benny growled as he prepared an attack.

"Benny, stop!" Charles ordered as he and Flo ran in between the two Pokemon.

Benny backed off, but still maintained his glare at the grass/poison Pokemon.

Charles turned to the oddish who looked up at him with hatred, "Look, we not looking for any trouble. We just want to travel through this forest," Charles explained.

("I don't care! Leave before I attack you again!") the oddish threatened again. However, Charles wasn't giving up.

He knelt down to get closer to the agitated Pokemon who growled in response.

"Why do you want us to leave? Is there something wrong? We can help you," Charles convinced calmly.

("I DON'T NEE- wait a minute did you understand me?") the oddish asked in confusion.

Charles briefly reflected that it has been a while since someone questioned his Pokemon communication skills. Pokemon were definitely more accepting than humans of his skill, but it's still a surprise to them.

Shaking her confusion away, she became hostile again.

("Whatever freak. Get outta my forest or I'll-") she stopped again as the leaves on her head bristled.

The oddish than ran back into the forest like before.

Benny tried to run after her, but Charles caught him before he could get too far.

("HEY! COME BACK HERE! YOU CAN'T CALL MY BROTHER A FREAK AND-") Benny shouted before Charles stroked his back comfortingly.

"There's definitely something wrong with her," Flo said walking up to them, "what should we do?"

Charles hummed in thought as he hugged a now calm Benny to his chest, "Well we can't follow her or we'll stray too far from the path and get lost. Are only solution is that we wait for her to come back. Let's rest for a bit before we continue walking," Charles suggested.

Flo and Benny agreed and they all sat under the shade of the oak tree.

Another half hour had gone by and the group were preparing to leave. There had been no sign of the oddish yet, so Flo suggested they walk for a bit to see if they can draw her out.

Benny was about to jump on Charles' shoulder when he head something from the forest. Hiding among the grass was the oddish and she was sneaking up behind an unsuspecting Charles. To Benny's horror, he could see her prepare an attack straight for his brother.

("Charles, watch out!") he cried leaping in front of the green tendrils of light shooting out of the oddish.

Charles and Flo turned around to see the Oddish, who looked shocked herself, using Giga Drain on Benny. The shiny pikachu collapsed to the ground and the light tendrils went back into the oddish's body.

"BENNY!" Charles shouted as he picked up the drained pikachu.

He turned to glare at the oddish, "What was that for!?" he asked aggressively.

The oddish shook of her shock and glared back at him, ("Hey! It's not my fault he got in the way! I was going for you!") she shot back.

Charles passed Benny to Flo carefully as he confronted the oddish who growled up at him.

"I have had enough," Charles angrily said, "We've been patient with you and we offered you help, but now you have attacked my best friend and injured my brother. Is your turf so important to you that your attacking innocent people and Pokemon?"

("I have no problem with Pokemon! Just humans! Not get lost before I attack you again!") the oddish threatened.

Charles noticed that signs she was going to attack again. He stood up and passed Benny to Flo carefully before turning back to the oddish.

"I'm give you one more chance," Charles said reaching for his pokeball on his belt.

The oddish didn't back down and so, sighing in reluctance, Charles opened his pokeball to reveal Echo who, out of instant, started flapping his wings and hovered before zubat looked around, before noticing his opponent in front of him.

("What's going on?") Echo asked his trainer.

"No time to explain," Charles replied as he pulled down his goggles, "prepare for battle."

(Battle Start)

The oddish sent a Stun Spore out of its leaves towards Echo.

"Echo dodge it and use Supersonic," Charles ordered calmly.

Echo flew away from the Stun Spore attack and released a high pitched screen at the oddish. The oddish tried to move away, but the Supersonic hit her directly. She staggered all over the place with swirls in her eyes.

Seeing that she is confused, Charles took the opportunity.

"Use Poison Fang, now" he instructed.

Echo complied. With his teeth lighting up, he dived towards the still confused oddish and bit her hard on its round body making it squeak in pain. Charles knew it wouldn't do much damage since it was a part poison type, but he didn't want to hurt her badly.

The Poison Fang seemed to make her come back to her senses as she glared at Echo furiously.

("RIGHT! THAT'S IT!") she screamed as she sent out another Giga Drain.

Echo didn't have time to move out of the way and was struck by the powerful attack. Charles hummed in concern seeing Echo's energy getting sucked out. He couldn't do anything, Echo was stuck. That's when he noticed that Echo was opening his mouth slowly. Charles raised any eyebrow, confused to what Echo was doing.

That's when Echo sent out a shrill cry at the oddish, causing her to flinch and release Echo from the Giga Drain. The zubat flew a safe distance from the oddish who was now fallen on the ground.

Charles was confused for a moment until he realised that Echo had leaned Astonish.

"Excellent work, Echo. You just leaned a ghost type move," Charles told the zubat proudly. Echo seemed bashful for being complimented as he hovered near the trainer.

Charles was about to remind him to never lose concentration during a battle when he looked at the oddish. She was still on the ground, but she wasn't glaring or making threats. She was crying.

("I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please don't attack me anymore,") she wailed as tears leaked from her eyes.

(Battle End)

Charles recalled Echo back into his pokeball before approaching the sobbing oddish. She tried to move away from him, but Charles stoked her leaves comfortingly.

"Now are you going tell us what's wrong," he calmly asked as Flo with a recovered Benny in her arms came up to them.

The oddish sniffed, ("My sister is really sick and I was trying to lead anyone who might harm her away from her. Then you showed up and I got angry. My sister always says I have anger problems and that I need to count down from ten, but I was so worried about her that I forgot to do them,") the oddish explained through sobs , ("I'm not very strong so I tried to attack you when you least expected it and I'm very, very, very sorry. I didn't mean to harm anybody. I'M JUST SO WORRIED FOR MY SISTER!") she exclaimed as she continued to cry.

Charles continued to pet the crying oddish while he translated what she said. Flo felt bad for the oddish. All she wanted to was protect her sister.

Flo knelt down next to the oddish and gave her a kind smile.

"So that's why. It's okay, nobody got hurt."

She heard an irritated cough. She looked down to see Benny give her an annoyed look.

"...badly, I mean," she added with a sheepish smile before turning back to the oddish, "if you said something earlier I could of helped. I'm training to be a nurse and curing sick Pokemon is my duty. Would you like to lead us to her?" she asked soothingly.

The oddish sniffed and nodded in agreement.

Charles was carrying the oddish while Benny rode on Flo's shoulder. The oddish had cheered up a little since the battle and she was directing the group towards where her sister was resting.

They soon came across a large oak tree surrounded by bushes. The oddish jumped down from Charles' arms and parted the bushes for the team to walk through. Laying on a bed of leaves under the tree was another oddish. However, this oddish was different from her sister. The leaves on her head were lighter and her body was green rather than the usual blue. The oddish breathing was laboured and her eyes were shut tight. Her face was flushed and she was sweating a lot.

The oddish's eyes opened to see who it was.

("Sister?") the ill oddish asked as she turned in their direction.

Her sister hoped up to her and looked down at her with concern.

("Yes, it's me,") she said softly.

The ill oddish turned towards the others present, ("and who may you be?") she asked politely with a small smile.

Charles and Flo kneeled down to get a better look at her.

"My name is Charles and this is Flo. The pikachu is my brother, Benny," Charles introduce them while Benny gave a small wave in greetings.

("Oh how lovely, guests,") the ill oddish happily said. Charles could tell that this oddish was much more level-headed than her sister.

("The human girl is here to help you, sister,") the oddish told her sick sister as she petted her head with one of her leaves.

Charles nodded to Flo and she got to work treating to the oddish.

Benny jumped off Flo and onto Charles as he led the oddish out of Flo's way. Seeing that the oddish was was distress, Charles thought he could keep her mind busy by starting a conversation.

"So, is this why you kept running off mid-sentence. You sensed that your sister needed you," Charles said.

("Yeah,") she admitted with a sigh.

"Why didn't you want any humans to come near?" Charles asked curiously.

("BECAUSE IT WAS HUMANS WHO MADE MY SISTER SICK IN THE FIR- sorry, sorry,") she apologised when she realised she was shouting again.

She inhaled and exhaled slowly, controlling her anger.

("It was a human,") she answered eventually, ("he shot something at my sister. We managed to get away, but I was scared that he would return.")

Charles and Benny shared a look. It sounded something a Pokemon hunter would do. If there's one nearby it could spell trouble, especially a Pokemon as rare as a green oddish.

They continued to talk as they waited for Flo.

It took a couple of hours for Flo to be done. She was successful and now the oddish was sleeping peacefully. She observed the small dart she removed from the oddish. It was obvious that this was the cause of her illness.

Flo found Charles, Benny and the oddish sat on the ground and leaning on a tree. They were all asleep with Benny and the oddish wrapped in Charles' embrace.

Flo gave a tired smile and looked at the evening sky.

'I guess it's getting late,' she thought.

After taking a few pictures of the adorable scene, Flo sat down and leaned on Charles' shoulder and eventually went to sleep.

Morning arrived and the group everybody celebrated the recovery of the oddish. The oddish sisters were very grateful for Flo and Charles.

("Thank you ever so much. I don't know what I would do without you,") the green oddish thanked as she hugged Flo's leg with her leaves.

("Yeah, I suppose you were helpful,") he sister muttered from the side, acting aloof.

Charles could tell that she was putting on a tough act and hiding her true feelings.

("Now, now sister,") the green oddish scolded lightly, ("we should be thankful for their assistance,") she said with a serene smile.

("I DON'T NEED T-") the green oddish sent her sister a small glare, ("-I mean thank you for your help,") she said reluctantly as she also hugged Flo's leg with her leaves. Her sister smiled sweetly at the display.

("I see who's in charge here,") Benny quipped from Charles' shoulder causing the blue oddish to glare at him.

Charles' translated what they said to Flo.

"It's quite alright," Flo said petting the blue oddish on the head, "I'm just glad you are all right."

The blue oddish grunted, ("Yeah, not likely. That hunter is still out there and I doubt he would want to stop any time soon,") she grumbled.

Her sister deflated in sadness when she heard that. She had to admit that she was still in danger.

Charles frowned and came up with an idea. He knelt down to the oddish sisters' level who looked up in interest.

"Why don't you come with us. That way you will be safe from that hunter and when reach the next town we can tell Officer Jenny about him," Charles suggested.

The green oddish was thrilled with the idea, but her sister was unconvinced.

("Nah, I don't think so,") she said with a glare.

Her sister turned to her in surprise, ("But why ever not? They seem like lovely people.")

("We hardly know them. Besides we can take care of ourselves,") she retorted sternly.

Charles turned to the reluctant oddish, "I promise that I will look after you and your sister and help to best of my abilities. All you need to do is trust me," he reassured, "Besides I was wondering if I can ask you a favour?"

("A favour?") the blue oddish asked in confusion.

"Yes. That was a powerful Giga Drain you did in our battle. I was wondering if you can teach it to Echo. It would improve his battling skills," Charles pleaded.

The oddish still looked unsure. She looked at her sister who nodded encouragingly.

The oddish sighed, ("Fine, we'll go with you,") she caved in, making her sister jump in joy.

"Excellent, I'm promise you won't regret it," Charles said happily, "now we need to give you two names."

("Names! Oh how delightful,") the green oddish happily said.

("Why do we need names?") her sister asked suspiciously.

"Because that way I can stop referring to you two as blue oddish and green oddish," Charles answered simply.

The blue oddish complied with a sigh.

After much thought and a lot of rejected names, the blue oddish was to be called Fleur and her sister Lilly. That way they can be known collectively as the Fleur De Lis sisters.

Charles caught them both and almost instantly their pokeballs were sent back to Oak's Lab in Pallet Town.

"Right, we should go now," Flo said picking up her backpack.

Benny noticed Charles' frown as he packed up his things.

("Hey, are you alright?") Benny asked from his shoulder.

Charles sighed, "Sorry, just think about that hunter."

Benny nodded in understanding, ("Well, if that hunter was smart, he would stay away from us,") he said with a confident smile.

Charles smiled back and petted his head.

"Yeah, I suppose."

He scanned the forest around him as if trying to see if the hunter was out there. Charles hummed in thought and followed Flo towards the path.

Unknown to the group, sat on a tree limb, was a shadowy figure spying on them.

The figure growled in frustration.

"Damn, I guess I have to follow them until that oddish reappears," he mumble as he watched them leave.

So I have been rereading this story and I honestly can't believe how it has got so popular with all the mistakes I've made. It's honestly embarrassing. This is why I'm editing this and my other story to look more...presentable and to salvage what dignity I have left.

Anyway, Charles had added two new members to his team the Fleur De Lis sisters. However, he also caught the attention of a Pokemon hunter. We also learned more about Sneak and his low self-esteem issues which Charles will help him with.

Also if you want to know who was talking about Charles, check out the lasted chapter of 'The Puzzling Adventures Od Edgar Cipher'.
