Here's the next chapter. If you like to recommend any Pokemon (Kanto region for now) to join Charles' team, please leave a review. All of Charles' Pokemon and their names can be found on my profile.
MBS41 – Hello, thanks for the question. I'm afraid I don't know much about the Let's Go games, so Benny isn't a part of that. Evolution is going to be a focal point of Benny's narrative in later chapters.

Chapter 12: Sibling Rivalries
Pokecentre
Charles and Benny waited patiently at the pokeball transporter at a local pokecentre.
They arrived at a town the day before and decided to take a break from travelling. It was a very small town with only a handful of residential houses, shops, and a park where Pokemon and people can relax at.
Flo was able to get the best room for them at the centre thanks to her aunt…or was it her second cousin…her grandmother's cousins' daughter…thanks to one of her relatives being the nurse.
Since they had access to a pokeball transporter, Charles wanted to take the opportunity to get to know the Fleur De Lis sisters. They had been at Oak's lab since he caught them, and he reckoned it will best travel with them for a bit.
Charles hadn't forgotten the hunter going for Lilly. They were still out there and posed a threat meaning that he needed to be careful.
He watched as Sneak's and Boa's pokeball evaporated into a white light before they were placed by two other pokeballs. Picking them up and releasing the two oddish, Charles bend down to greet the two.
"Hel-"
("WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG! GET LOST ON THE WAY HERE! I KNEW YOU WERE AN IDIOT BUT I DI-")
Lilly slapped Fleur's head to stop her angry rant.
("Fleur, what did I say about being nice to Charles,") Lilly scolded firmly, causing the other oddish to grumble in annoyance.
Lilly turned to Charles with a bright smile.
("Good day to you, Charles and Benny. Are you well?") she asked kindly.
Charles and Benny chuckled, "I'm fine, thank you. More importantly are you okay? How was the lab?"
Lilly twirled in delight, (Oh, it was ever so wonderful. Fleur and I had a splendid time, didn't we?")
If Fleur had shoulders, she would have shrugged, ("It was okay, I guess,") she mumbled uninterestingly, ("so what do want from us?")
"I thought we could hang out and talk," Charles told them.
("Also, don't forget you promised you would teach Echo Giga Drain,") Benny piped up.
Lilly squeaked in excitement as she jumped up and down while her sister looked unsure.
("Are you sure it's safe?") Fleur asked in concern, ("What about the hunter?")
Charles petted her head comfortingly and Fleur seemed to enjoy.
"Don't worry, most hunters tend to work in secluded areas. They wouldn't dare attack in a public area and besides, you have a whole team of Pokemon to protect your sister," he reassured calmly.
Fleur frowned in worry for a moment. But then she nodded and sent a small smile at the human. She noticed how he was still petting her and snapped out of it. She moved away glaring at the Charles in embarrassed annoyance.
("Yeah, alright. Whatever,") she muttered, making her sister hug her with her leaves in excitement.
Charles placed them back in their pokeballs as Flo came walking up with Alette in her arms.
"Are they here?" she asked curiously.
"Yep, and they both liked the lab. However, Fleur is still worried about the hunter going after her sister," Charles told her with a frown.
Flo hummed in concern, "I don't blame her, to be honest," she admitted before a smile returned to her face, "I'm sure she'll be fine after a day."
Charles nodded, "Are you sure you don't want to come? I was planning on having a picnic in the park."
"Sorry, Charles. I already promised my aunt-"
'Yes, got it right the first time,' Charles thought.
"-that I'll help out at the centre today. I'll come by later… and you better have saved me some food."
"No promises," Charles joked, "see you later," he said as he walked towards the centre's doors.
As Charles and Benny left the pokecentre, a figure, sitting on a bench in the far corner, looked up at him and smiled sinisterly.
"Finally," he grumbled as he stood up and followed them, "I'm going to get my prey."
The Park
It had been a couple of hours since Charles and Benny left the centre. They team had enjoyed the day off playing, laughing, and eating under the shade of tree.
The Fleur De Lis sisters (well Lilly anyway) were telling the others about them meeting all the Pokemon at Oak's lab.
("…and there were so many different grass Pokemon that we met,") Lilly told them in a merry tone.
Fleur tsked, ("They weren't that great. I bet I could beat them in a fight,") Fleur muttered under her breath, making sure her sister didn't hear her. She warned her about making hostile remarks.
Unfortunately, Lilly did hear her.
("Fleur,") Lilly warned severely, making her sister jump.
The others giggled at the relationship between the two.
They seemed to be complete opposites of each other.
Fleur was brash and had a short temper. While Lilly was polite and was always happy. However, when Fleur stepped out of line, Lilly will become come down on her like a ton of bricks.
Lilly may be sweet and caring, but she was still the older sister.
Charles finished off his soft drink and looked around for a bin. He spotted one a couple of meters away and hummed in irritation. He was comfortable and didn't want to get up.
He decided to throw the can instead. He pulled his arm back, aimed and tossed it overarm.
The can the rim of the bin but bounced off onto the ground.
("Nice throw,") Benny teased lightly.
"Shut up," Charles mumbled as he stood up and walked over to the bin to pick the can up.
Before he could reach it, however, somebody tackled him to the ground and held his arm behind his back painfully. Charles gasped at the attack as his face pressed on the grass. For a moment, Charles thought it was the hunter coming to get Lilly and struggled to get out of his attacker's grasp.
"Stop struggling, litter bug," his attacker ordered.
Charles stopped, but not because the attacker told him to do so, but in confusion.
'Litter bug?' he asked mentally, turning his face towards the attacker.
What greeted him was the stern, unmistakable face of Officer Jenny looking down at him. He could feel the metal handcuffs being snapped onto his wrists as she began to pull him of the ground.
"Sir, I am arresting you for littering in a public area. I need you to recall all you Pokemon into their pokeballs and come down to the station with me," she ordered firmly.
"What!? You're arresting for littering? I was about to pick it u-" he stopped as he got a better view of Officer Jenny over his shoulder.
There wasn't in particularly unusual in the way she looked. Like all Officer Jennys, she wore a blue police uniform along with a cap. As well as wearing her blue hair in a spiky ponytail.
What really caught confused Charles, now that he was his full height, was the fact that he was taller than her by four inches as well as how much younger she looked then any officer he had seen.
Charles stared at her for a moment.
"…how old are you?" he asked.
The officer scrunched her face in irritation, "Are you questioning my authority?"
"Yes," he simply replied.
Officer Jenny looked taken back by the response.
"Well…don't. Or else I'll arrest you," she shot back.
"You've already arrested me."
"Well, I'll arrest you again."
"You're going to arrest me twice? At the same time?" Charles asked sceptically.
"Shut up and recall your Pokemon," she ordered, causing Charles to sigh.
One by one (as it was hard to do it with handcuffs on) the confused Pokemon were returned to their pokeballs until only Benny was left, laughing his head off at the situation.
"I said all your Pokemon, sir," she told him sternly.
Charles looked at her over his shoulder, "Benny doesn't have a pokeball," he explained.
She looked angrily at Charles for a moment, "Fine," the officer said as she pulled out a small pair of handcuffs, "I'll just arrest him as well," she said snapping the small handcuffs on the no-longer laughing Pikachu.
"Ok, first of all," Charles started, "the fact that you have tiny handcuffs for Pokemon is both hilarious and adorable," he admitted earning a glare from his brother, "second of all, I don't think you can arrest a Pokemon."
The officer stood in front of him challengingly. Charles only just noticed how her uniform looked baggy in places, as if they weren't made for her.
"If I can arrest a person, I can arrest a Pokemon," she informed them strictly.
("I seriously doubt you have the right to detain even people,") Benny muttered.
"Now you two stay right here while and go and get the van," she told them running off to somewhere.
Charles and Benny waited patiently for her to come back. They were a bit baffled at what was going on.
("So,") Benny said, ("do you think she has an actual van?")
Charles chuckled, "Maybe that's what she calls her bicycle," Charles joked, making Benny laugh as well.
A bell ringing made them stop as they turned to see the officer who was now riding a bike. She stopped in front of the brothers and pointed to the basket on the front.
"Get in," she ordered firmly.
….
….
….
….
The brothers looked at her with a sweat drop.
("She's not serious, right?") Benny asked.
She was.
Police Station
It took a while, but she managed to transport them both to the station.
It was the longest and strangest experience Charles and Benny have ever had. One they will never forget.
No matter how hard they tried.
Upon reaching the station, the officer confiscated Charles' pokeballs, took their details, led them down a corridor and put them in a jail cell. They had been there for twenty minutes now and the brothers were both miserably sitting on a bench in their cell.
("You just had to throw the can, didn't you buttmunch?") Benny teased his brother.
"Shut up. I would have had better aim if you didn't ride on my shoulders all the time," Charles shot back.
Benny looked at him crossly, ("What are you implying?")
Charles sent him a grin, "Oh nothing," he replied in a faux innocent tone.
Benny hummed angrily before he smirked, ("Fine, then I won't ride on your shoulders anymore. They're too bony anyway.")
"Right, that's it," Charles said as he tackled Benny to the floor.
The two started to play fight on the jail cell. They hadn't fought in a while, but they both still know the rules. Charles has to make sure he doesn't crush Benny, while Benny can't use electric attacks.
"Take it back," Charles ordered through fits of giggles as he pinned his brother to the floor.
("No way! You said I was fat,") Benny retorted also through giggles.
"I didn't say you were fat. I just said there is added weight on my shoulders. I hate to think what would happen when you evolve," Charles teased back.
Benny stopped laughing and struggling under his brother's grasp. He frowned sadly which made Charles concerned.
He released Benny and sat on the hard floor.
"Benny, what's wrong?"
Benny snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at him.
("Nothing,") he replied dully, ("I just thought the fight was getting stupid that's all,") he admitted as he jumped back onto the bench again.
Charles looked at him with worry.
"Benny what's-"
("I said I'm fine, Charles,") Benny snapped at him as his expression became irritated, surprising his brother.
Benny realised what he did.
("Charles, sorry I didn't mean to…")
The sound of footsteps on hard floor sounded down the corridor. Charles stood up in case it was the officer form before. However, it was another Officer Jenny. She was much taller and seemed to be in her late teens.
She was looking at a clipboard, only briefly looking up at them in their cell before she walked by.
The footsteps came to an abrupt halt.
The Officer Jenny walked back to their cell with a perplexed look on her face.
"Err…who are you?" she asked, "And what are you doing in our cells?"
"Well…" he gave Benny a confused look, "we were arrested by-"
"Sorry, hold on," the officer interrupted, "was the officer that arrested you look like me, but shorter and bratty?" she asked with annoyed look on her face.
Charles raised an eyebrow, "Well, I don't know about bratty, but she was shorter."
"For goodness' sake," she muttered before turning to her radio clipped to her uniform. She pressed a button on the radio and started to talk into it.
"Mum, she did it again," she said.
The radio crackled as she released the button and Charles could hear the person on the other end say she'll come by in a minute.
The officer turned towards the front office, "ALICE GET IN HERE RIGHT NOW!" she shouted in irritation.
Charles and Benny could hear an annoyed sigh coming from the office before the officer, now known as Alice, came stomping in.
"You can't order me around, Edith," Alice angrily retorted with an annoyed glare.
"I can if you do something stupid like this and are you wearing my old uniform again," Edith scolded, "What did I say about going into my room."
"I'm sorry to interrupt," Charles jumped in, "but can we go or…"
Edith remembered that he was there and gave him an apologetic expression, "I'm so sorry. Let me get the keys."
"Hey! You can't release them. They're my prisoners," Alice complained.
"Oh really," a new voice entered the argument.
Another identical looking woman, much more mature then the other two, stepped into the corridor and glared critically at Alice.
"That's funny because I don't remember you ever graduating from the police academy," Officer Jenny turned to Charles and Benny in the cell and brought a set of keys "I'm really sorry about my daughter. She didn't hurt you, did she?"
Charles shook his head as Benny jumped into his arms.
"Don't worry. She didn't hurt me at all," Charles lied remembering how he was forced to ride in her bicycle basket.
"But mum," Alice complained as Officer Jenny released the two, "I actually saw him commit a crime."
"And what was his crime," Edith asked sceptically.
Alice crossed her arms proudly.
"Defacing publicly owned property and environmental damage," she informed.
Edith and Officer Jenny turned towards Charles questioningly.
"I threw a fizzy drink can into a bin and missed. I was going to pick it up," Charles answered making the elder officers facepalm.
"Alice you can't arrest someone for accidently littering," Officer Jenny told her daughter off.
"And even if it was, you have no right to detain him," Edith added.
Alice turned her head away angrily, "I would have found a better crime if this town wasn't so boring," she grumbled.
Officer Jenny frowned, "Alice, are you still on this? I told you this so many times, you can't go out on a journey you're too young."
"Most of my class have already gone, why can't I?" she retorted.
Edith stepped firmly towards her, "Because your too immature and do stupid things like this."
Alice glared at her older sister, "I wasn't asking you, Edith?" she snarled.
Edith's eye twitched in annoyance, "Why do you have to be such a brat all the time? Can't you just do what mum asks for once?"
"Why do you always have to take mum's side?" Alice said, raising her voice.
"Because you're in the wrong an-"
"SHUT UP!" Alice screamed, "Stop acting like you're the boss of me and treating me like a child!"
"I wouldn't have to treat you like a child if stop acting like one!" Edith retorted, "why can't you just be normal for once!"
Alice took a step back, glaring intensely at her sister. She seemed loss for words. Too upset and angry to even speak.
She managed to push down a sob to scream one final thing.
"I HATE YOU!"
With tears in her eyes, Alice ran out of the corridor leaving her stunned family behind. Edith herself looked like she was going to cry at what she said but wiped them away before anybody could notice.
The two officers turned to Charles and Benny. During the whole fight, the brothers decided to do what anybody would if they were caught in a middle of a family argument. Make themselves a part of the background as much as possible and talk among themselves. Not so loudly to interrupt the shouting, but loud enough so it didn't look like they were eavesdropping on the argument.
The two were about to agree on how well the weather was today and wonder if it was going to rain later for the ten time in a row when they noticed that it had finished.
Officer Jenny gave them an apologetic smile, "I'm really sorry you had to see that. My daughter wants to leave to go a journey and the way she's trying to prove she's mature enough is by tackling crime," she explained.
"Problem is," Edith added, "this town is too small for any serious crime and well…" she trailed off.
"I see," Charles said in concern, "why don't you think she's mature enough? I mean, I'm the same age as her and I am travelling."
Officer Jenny frowned, "It's nothing to do with her being immature…"
"I think it is," Edith said under her breath, earning a warning glare from her mother.
"…it's just hard for me to let her go on her own," Officer Jenny continued, "I mean it would be hard on any parent, you know."
'Oh, we definitely know,' Charles and Benny mentally deadpanned, thinking about their own mother.
"Well…maybe I can talk to her," Charles suggested.
"You really don't have to," Edith said, "we bothered you for long enough."
"I insist," Charles replied, "it probably be good for her to talk to somebody her own age."
Officer Jenny smiled kindly, "Thanks…um sorry I didn't get you name," she said sheepishly.
"It's Charles Roberts and this is my brother Benny Roberts. Where can I find Alice?"
"You probably find her on the roof. Take the stairs on the left as you enter the foyer," Officer Jenny instructed.
"Thank you," Charles said before setting off for the roof.
The two officers watched him and the pikachu leave the corridor.
Edith realised something and turned to her mother.
"Did he say that pikachu was his brother?" she asked in confusion.
"Yeah, he did," Officer Jenny confirmed, equally as perplexed.
Hunting.
What's the best part of hunting?
Is it the thrill of the chase?
Or is it the joy of finally getting your hands on your prey?
Or could it possibly be when you finally sell your spoils of war to the wealthy, but stupid customer?
None of those matter to this hunter.
What he enjoys the most is the waiting.
Watching your prey for hours on end, trying to breathe as little as possible, the decision of whether to strike now or later.
And most of all…the knowing that your prey is at your mercy and they didn't even know it.
That's the best part of hunting.
He had been watching the boy for quite some time now. He saw his pink haired friend cured his prey and watched how he trained his stupid sandshrew and watched him play in the park with his little Pokemon friends. He almost laughed out loud when he saw the boy arrested by that child playing dress up.
But now it was time.
Time to claim his prey.
He snuck into the police station unnoticed and went to where he saw that stupid girl kept his pokeballs. He grinned widely as he discovered that she left the storage container unlocked and grabbed all the boy's pokeballs and placed them in his bag.
It was almost too easy.
It was only a shame he couldn't steal that pikachu.
But maybe another time.
What the hunter didn't realise as he walked out the station, however, was the sizable hole in the bottom of his bag
Police Station Roof
Charles and Benny finally found Alice sitting with her legs dangling off the side of the roof. They could hear her gently sobbing as her back faced them.
Charles approached slowly, making sure to not spook her.
"Go away," the girl demanded not bothering to look around.
Charles frowned but continued walking towards her. She didn't tell him again nor did she look up when he sat next to her.
"Your Alice, right?" Charles asked calmly.
"What are you doing here?" she spat out, "Your free to go. Just leave."
"I guess I don't want to," Charles shrugged as Benny leaped on to his lap, "What I do want to do is talk about what happened just now."
Alice didn't say anything. She just continued to stare out at the scenery.
Charles sighed, "You know it took our mum four years to convince her to let Benny and I go on our journey. I used to think if we stop our mum from worrying then she'll let us go… but then I realised no matter what we do or begged, she'll always worry about us. I could be an elderly man and she would still treat me like a child and fuss over me," Charles chuckled lightly, "I guess mums are just like that. They'll always worry about-"
"It isn't about that," Alice sharply interrupted, "I know my mum is worried about me going on a journey but isn't about her not letting me go."
Charles was taken aback by this.
"Then what is this all about?" he asked calmly.
Alice tucked her legs into her body and wrapped her arms around them. She still didn't look at him.
"It's my sister…"
Outside the pokecentre
Meanwhile
Flo, with Alette in her arms, sighed as they walked out the centre. It had a been a long day, but finally they can relax and meet up with Charles.
"How does mum do this every day?" Flo said tiredly.
Alette agreed with a nod.
"I really hope Charles had saved some food for-ow!" Flo began to say before she was pushed roughly to the side by a passer-by.
"HEY! What was that for!" she shouted at the man angrily.
The man turned his crew cut head back at her, "You were in my way, girlie," he grumbled roughly before continuing to walk away.
Flo growled in irritation, but then she looked at the bag he had over his shoulder. She saw a pokeball pass through a large rip in the bag and drop onto the pavement. The man didn't notice it drop out of the bag and turned a corner and out of sight.
Flo curiously walked up to the pokeball and picked it up.
Alette said something to her in pokespeech, but she knew she was asking if she should give it back to him.
"What no way. He was such an-"
She was interrupted as the pokeball suddenly opened up and a butterfree was released. Flo recognised the excitable butterfree anywhere.
"Hurricane?" Flo gasped in surprise as the said butterfree started to do loop in the air.
Hurricane turned to Flo and gave a friendly wave before looking around in confusion.
"Wait a minute, how did you-"
Realisation struck her.
Charles' pokemon had been stolen.
"Oh no," she muttered in horror as she turned in the direction the thief went in.
She turned back to the butterfree.
"Hurricane, I need you to find Charles now and tell him I'm going after the thief," she ordered firmly.
Hurricane saluted and took off into the air.
"Let's go, Alette," she told the clefairy as she ran after the thief.
Police Station Roof
"My sister and I were close," Alice told him softly, "we would do everything together and do stupid kid stuff. But then she went to the academy and now she's like this different person. She's so strict all the time, even at home. She hardly talks to me anymore and, whenever she does, she just criticises or scorn me."
She turned to face Charles, "Scorn me. Like she actually tells me off as she's mum or something for things that she used to do as well," she told him, tears threatening to fall again.
"I…I just want my sister back," Alice whimpered, and she hugged her legs closer to her body.
"Have you ever told her about it?" Charles asked as shuffled closer to her.
Alice gave a sarcastic laugh, "Like I could stop miss supercop on her vigilante patrol of the smallest town in the Kanto Region. She takes it way too seriously. I mean mum is strict, but that's only when she has to be. Edith has to be on duty 24/7…she never has time for me."
Charles and Benny shared a glance before Charles looked at Alice again.
"Alice, have you ever wondered why Edith is so strict?" Charles asked.
Alice shook her head in denial.
"Well maybe the academy was very stressful for her. I mean it couldn't have been easy. Leaving her family and going to a strange place where she had to go through training and exams and a large amount of studying. She must have been under a lot of pressure."
Alice angry expression began to drop into sadness.
"I bet it was it quite a shock for her to come back and apply the training that has been drilled into her head onto a sleepy town like this. Imagine being taught a skill for so long and only have access to use less than 10% of it. I'm sure Edith is trying to find a way to balance her work and her life and I am for certain that Edith still loves you-"
"Funny way of showing it," Alice mumbled.
"But it's true," Charles told her as he hugged Benny, "older siblings are…on this spectrum. On one side they could be a child-like and more relatable to you, but on the other end is responsibility and more likely to take the parents' side in arguments. Where the older siblings are on the spectrum is different from person to person, however no matter where they are on the scale or what you do; they still love you."
He petted his younger brother's head and squeaked in happiness.
"I'm sure she wants to patch things up with you. Maybe you should give her a chance or wait till she's figured out her life. Either way, I'm sure she will be the sister you once knew before you know it."
Alice sniffed, a light smile forming on her face.
"Ok," she said, "I'll give her a chance."
Charles and Benny smiled, happy that she's no longer feeling sad.
Alice looked up at him and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"I'm sorry for arresting you and your pikachu," she apologised.
"It's fine," Charles said as Benny nodded.
"I'm also sorry for forcing you into my bicycle basket," she followed up, sheepishly rubbing the back of her head.
"Let's never talk about that again," Charles sharply said.
Alice laughed, thinking he was joking with her, but then she saw his serious face and she abruptly stopped.
The fluttering of wings caught their attention. The looked up to see Hurricane flying hurriedly towards them.
Too hurriedly as the butterfree crashed into Charles.
("CHARLESTHERESACRISISSOMEBODYHASSTOLENYOURPOKEBALLSANDIMANAGEDTOESCAPEBUTFLOISGOINGAFTERTHETHIEFANDI'MREALLYCONFUSEDANDSTILLHUNGRYANDVERYSTRESSEDABOUTTHEWHOLESITUATIO-")
"Whoa, Hurricane slow down I can't understand you," Charles told him, recovering from the crash landing.
("SOMEBODY HAS STOLEN THE TEAM!") Hurricane cried out in panic.
"WHAT!" Charles shouted.
Originally, this chapter was going to be much longer, but I decided to cut it down into two parts. I hope you don't mind.
Anyway, I thought it would be interesting to note that I chosen the names Alice and Edith after the first US and UK female police officers, respectively. Alice Stebbins Wells (1873 – 1957) and Edith Smith (1876-1923).
Thank you for the support and I'll see you next time :)
