Chapter 2

Janet and the teens were relieved of the rifles and supplies. They were given medical exams, clean clothes, showers and fresh food. Sporting plain green battle dress the three met with SG-1 and Jack in the briefing room.

Daniel beamed at Janet. He watched her alternate die and now this version of Janet was with them and could use a new home. Teal'c also beamed at the doctor for he missed his friend. Janet, Jackie and Charlie were given a very basic debriefing explaining that Anubis was now the big bad Goa'uld and Ra was long gone.

Janet sat across from Jack. "You want me to come work here, with you guys, General O'Neill?"

"I have an opening on SG-1." he informed. "I thought you might like that spot."

"My alternate was the chief medical officer. She died off world. Why give me a team where I would go off world?" she wondered.

"You spent fifteen years fighting Ra in your reality and keeping my kids alive. I think you are qualified." he told her.

She looked to Jackie and Charlie. "What do you two think?"

Jackie stated. "Go for it."

Charlie asked. "What happens to me and Jackie now that you guys said we could stay here in this reality?"

"You are fifteen. School." he suggested.

"School!" he gasped. "I haven't been to school since Ra invaded. The schools closed."

"You got a brand new slate here, Charlie." Jack told him. "You can go to school, get into the Academy. Become an officer."

The boy looked at his sister. "You think I should go to school?"

She shrugged. "What else are you going to do? We can live a normal life here." She then asked. "What will I do here?"

Jack stated. "You were never born here. Sarah was pregnant with you but she miscarried. We knew it was a girl. You got a new slate too. I would like to get to know you."

"I'm eighteen." she reminded him. "I'm not like Charlie. I'm too old for school."

Sam suggested. "Sir! Since Jackie needs an entire background and identification, why not give her a rank and let her work with us here?"

"You mean enlisted?" Jack asked.

"Or a commissioned officer." she countered. "She has spent years under Ra occupation. She has to have some valuable input."

Charlie asked. "Can't I get a commission and work here too?"

Jack asked. "Why? You can be a normal teenager."

"I spent my life under occupation too and both Jackie and Mom are going to be here." he explained.

"Your mom doesn't work here." Jack shook his head.

"My adopted mom." he pointed to Janet.

"Frasier just took care of you. You are not legally adopted." he countered. "Your name is Charles O'Neill. Not Charles Frasier."

Janet smirked. "He can be Charles Frasier if he wants."

Jack gave her a look. "No!"

Charlie rolled his eyes. "Give me one good reason why I should go to school?"

Daniel suggested. "You could keep your father's clone company. I'm sure he's bored."

Charlie and Jackie both paused in complete disbelief.

"What?" Charlie asked shocked.

"Clone?" Jackie asked baffled.

Jack sighed. "Yes! There is a fifteen year old version of me in high school. He knows everything I know."

"This is got to see." Charlie agreed.

"How did that happen, Dad?" Jackie wondered.

He replied. "Asgard."

"Who are they?" she asked.

"You and Charlie will both meet Thor." he promised. "Now, Frasier…you will get promoted to Lt. Colonel and work with Carter on SG-1. Jackie will be given a an entry rank of Lieutenant and we can train her. Charlie will go to high school as a sophomore." he scribbled his note on the yellow lined paper pad before him.

Janet asked. "Why are you making me a Colonel? I was never in the military. I was thinking of joining after I got divorced but Ra invaded. So, I never did join."

Charlie countered. "Mom! You were trained. You me and Jackie were all trained. We are part of the resistance. George trained us. He was a General in the Air Force."

Jack squinted. "George Hammond?"

Charlie nodded. "He was one of the resistance leaders. We lost him last year in an ambush." He then admitted. "He became a father figure to me and Jackie."

Jack stated. "George is alive and well here. He just took a position in the Pentagon."

Jackie stated. "But he won't know us. Charlie died as a kid and I wasn't born."

"He would like to meet you two. And see Frasier again." he assured.

Janet softly smiled. "I would like to see George again."

Teal'c spoke. "An alternate version of GeneralHammond had trained Janet Frasier and the alternate offspring of GeneralO'Neill. That training should be accounted for in issuing ranks." He looked to Jackie. "What is your specialty, JacquelineO'Neill?"

"Specialty?" she nearly laughed. "I'm MacGyver! I fix things. It's broke, I fix it. Need to start an engine…That's me. Rig some explosives. Make a bomb. Fix old broken guns. Reload ammo. Rig up some power. Cook, sew clothes, you name it."

Janet stated. "I caller her MacGyver." She then looked at Jack who sat with a disturbed look on his face. "You know. You look a lot like tat actor."

"I know." he barked. He looked to Charlie. "What do you do for this resistance?"

"I'm basically security and supplies." he told him.

Jack looked at Janet. "Frasier?"

"I'm medical." she told him. "We were scouting when we came across the house with the mirror. Looking for supplies, food, scavenging what we could. There is no real command structure to the resistance. George set it up that way. He said it's called devolution. I guess it's an old cold war model to use in case the Pentagon got taken out."

Jack nodded. "It is. It's the contingency plan. Your George was using it to run your resistance. We would do the same here." He looked to Jackie. "I'll give you a rank of Captain."

Sam added. "That will make you the youngest Captain in Air Force history."

"Thank you. I appreciate that." she stated. "Maybe I can beat General John Clem's record."

Teal'c wondered who she was referring to. "I am not familiar."

Jack stated. "Little military history. He was a drummer boy during the Civil War. Became a famous General." He looked at his daughter impressed. "You know military history."

"When Ra invaded all broadcasting went silent. Only TV we got was from Ra's channel. So, we would get old books from the library to read. I was scrounging for books and found one on Johnny Clem and read it." she shrugged. "Ra didn't bother to burn down the libraries when they closed. So, all the information was still there. And most scavengers are not looking for books. So, the old abandoned library became a safe place for me. I read and read. Learned all about mechanics, engineering, electrician, plumbing, carpentry…".

Janet added. "Ra didn't want schools or the kids to learn anything. He just wanted slaves and a reduced population to rule. He had no idea what our public libraries were for. None of the invaders knew what a book was. So, the libraries managed to survive the initial attack. We used them as meeting places in the beginning."

Jack asked. "Just how did that invasion play out? We have all these war game scenarios but we don't really know what will be left alone and what will be attacked." He found Janet to be a source of information for war planning.

She recalled. "It was a bright sunny day. It was in September, schools had just started back up. September twenty second. I remember the date. The invasion started in Egypt. Right on top of the pyramids. Spread to the Middle East. At first we were able to mount a defense. Looked like were going to win. Then more ships came. We just could not fight them all off. The capitals were attacked. Military bases were targeted and taken out in the that large wave. Satellites were taken out. Our infrastructure was taken out. No running water, no electricity. Ra deployed a weapon that caused an electromagnetic pulse attack. That is how he took out our power grid. He was able to do that world wide to each country. We were crippled in no time. And you would not believe just how fast our elected leader ran and hid. They went into bunkers and ran away. They left! Gone! Then local services broken down. Fireman, ambulance, police. All had families to take care of. The whole system went down rather easily. The cities were abandoned. They became war zones. People scattered. Little resistance pockets started developing in rural areas. We needed farms and land to hide and survive. Cities became ghost towns and people who survived the invasion spread out thin. We move in small groups or squads. And we are independent. No real command structure. Or at least that I know of. Of course, we're just civilians." she mentioned.

Sam assessed. "We would need to ensure some kind of command structure and plans on how to overcome and counter global power outages."

"If our grid was hardened. It would not have come down so easily." Janet nodded.

Jack agreed. "Something to address for us as well.
