Chapter 36: You Said a Mouthful
[Route 8]
The 3 trainers were currently taking a break on their journey. Clyde was currently cooking lunch, with his Pokemon out playing around. Lynn was relaxing, with her Lycanroc the only one out watching the other Pokemon. Ronnie Anne was trying to get Poochyena to listen to her, while her other Pokemon were out playing. They were about a day or way from Saffron City, so the 2 rookie trainers were getting ready for their rematch.
As for what happened in Lavender Town. The 2 younger trainers told Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny about Murkrow and Misdreavus. They thanked them for stopping them, but expressed they couldn't do much with them. So they recommended they keep them. The 2 trainers decided to agree with the older women and kept the Pokemon. Both Pokemon listened to their new trainers and both were happy to get new team members. Lynn reminded them they now had to take care of them now, with both saying they would.
"Why won't you listen to me?!" Ronnie Anne said frustrated. She was still not having any luck getting the Bite Pokemon to listen. Poochyena just continued to growl at her. "I want to give you another chance against Sabrina. You remember her right?" Poochyena looked down and growled even more in rage. "If you listen and we work together, I know we can beat her. I'm not saying to listen to me all the time, but will you listen to me for that one battle?" Poochyena looked back at her and growled again before stopping. She then started to think, before nodding to her trainer and barking in agreement.
"You'll listen to me for that battle?!" The young female trainer asked, shocked. Poochyena nodded again and barked again. Ronnie Anne was so happy, she ran up to the Pokemon and started to hug her while thanking her. Poochyena let out some warning growls, before she put her back on the ground. "Right, still don't trust me" she said with a blush. Poochyena simply barked and walked away to do her own thing.
Ronnie Anne then went to join Clyde, happy to slowly make progress. "So Poochyena is going to listen to you for the gym battle?" Clyde asked, hearing her conversation.
"Yes! Now all I gotta do is come up with a plan" the female trainer replied. "I'm planning to use Houndour, Murkrow, and Poochyena." She then gained a small frown. "I know she has a Pokemon that can use Miracle Eye, so type advantage will only do a little. That's why me and my team need to work together." She gave him a smile. "So who are you going to use? Are you going to give Combee a chance?"
"No Combee is still very inexperience" the male trainer replied with a shake of his head. "I'm going with Blissey, Misdreavus, and not sure who to use for the last spot. Both Gloom and Milcery don't have any advantage, with Gloom having a slight disadvantage."
As they talked about their plans for their rematch, Lynn was silently listening. She was glad to hear them planning for their rematch with Sabrina. However, she then noticed someone walking by with a depressed expression. It was a 10 year old boy in blue shorts, white T-shirt, and backwards red baseball cap. Being curious, she got up and walked towards the boy. "Hey kid, what's the matter?" She asked, bringing the boy momentarily out of his funk.
"I just lost my money to a Pokemon that shouldn't exist!" He replied with confusion and anger. Seeing the older girl's confusion, he started to explain. "There's a trainer just up the way who has his own personal gym. He claims to have the world's strongest Pokemon and accepts any challengers. But the Pokemon he uses makes no sense!"
"What's the Pokemon?" Lynn asked, her interest piqued.
"It's a Pelipper!" The boy replied with a shout. This got the other 2 trainers attention, so they went to see what was going on. "But the Pelipper could use Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, and Vine Whip!"
Now Lynn was starting to see some red flags. She has been doing this long enough to pick up on scamming trainers tactics. "It's not unheard of for some Flying Pokemon to learn Thunderbolt, but this does sound strange" Lynn said with narrowed eyes. "Pelipper is a Water and Flying Type, it shouldn't be able to learn Vine Whip or Flamethrower."
"Exactly! Also how it did those moves was strange!" The boy shouted with frustration. "The Vine Whip and Thunderbolt came out if it's mouth, not it's body!"
This caused Lynn to scowl. "Kid, there's a small town just that way" Lynn said pointing in its direction. "Go there and tell the police about this place. Me and my companions will be waiting there for them."
"What are you going to do?" the boy asked, confused.
"You'll find out later, now go" she told him with a smile. The boy nodded and ran off. Lynn then looked at her students with a serious expression. "Pack everything up, put the food in a container and we'll eat later" she ordered in a firm tone. "We need to go to this personal gym." She then started to dig around in her bag.
"Why Lynn?" Clyde asked, confused.
"Yeah, what's the rush?" An equally confused Ronnie Anne asked.
"I'll explain on the way," she said, not looking at them. The two younger trainers looked at each other and shrugged, before doing what they were told.
"So you're saying this trainer is scamming people?!" Clyde asked in shock. While he knew not all trainers were the nicest, he didn't think some were scammers.
"Yes, there are just too many red flags," Lynn replied in a serious tone. She had been like this ever since the kid left to get the police. She had just finished explaining what she believes is going on. "That's why I want one of you to battle them so I can confirm things. However I'm positive they are scamming people just based on what the kid said."
"So that's why you sent the kid to get the police" Ronnie Anne said, looking at her mentor. "But what if you're wrong?"
"I'll apologize for wasting everyone's time," she replied. "However I really doubt I'm wrong. However I need to see Pelipper use Thunderbolt or Vine Whip, so that's why I would like you to use Murkrow. Clyde you should use Blissey, since she can use so many different attacks. This might force them to use those moves." Both teens nodded in understanding, seeing their mentor this serious.
Soon the group found the place. It was a large single floor building with a personal battlefield in front and surrounded by a tall cement wall. At the front was a sign that said "Home of the World's Strongest Pokemon". They stared at the sign before walking in. They stood at one end of the battlefield and looked. "We're here to challenge the world's strongest Pokemon!" Lynn shouted with sarcasm. Soon they heard the sound of a recorded crowd cheering, then someone walked out of the building.
It was a 20 something man with short slick back dirty blonde hair. He wore a fancy and expensive black suit, white under shirt, and red tie. He walked out with confidence and had an arrogant smirk on his face. "I will never refuse any challenge," he said in a confident tone. "I'm Togami and I have the world's strongest Pokemon. You three are here to challenge me?"
"Yeah, these two will face you first" Lynn said, gesturing to the 2 younger teens.
"Well, why don't I take them both on at once" Togami said, his smirk growing. These two look weak, I doubt they'll give me a challenge."
"You're on!" Ronnie Anne said, stepping forward with a glare. Clyde stood beside her, with a glare of his own. Lynn moved to stand to the side of the battlefield, while secretly letting a Pokemon out.
"Keep an eye on the trainer" Lynn whispered, so only her Pokemon could hear. "If he tries to run, stop him." She found her spot and adjusted her bag in front of her towards the battlefield.
"Let's get this over with," Togami said, pulling out a pokeball. "Come out Pelipper!" The large bird Pokemon came out and hovered above the battlefield.
"Let's go Murkrow!" Ronnie Anne shouted. Her new Pokemon came out and hovered above the field.
"Come out Blissey!" Clyde shouted. The pink Pokemon came out with a few shadow punches.
Togami was a little taken back by their Pokemon. He wasn't expecting them to have this kind of Pokemon. "Well, you two have interesting Pokemon," he said with a smirk, although he was slightly nervous. "Pelipper, let's take out that weak Murkrow first, use Thunderbolt!" Pelipper nodded and flew higher than Murkrow. It then opened its mouth and a Thunderbolt came out.
"Murkrow dodge it and use Nightshade!" The female trainer ordered. Murkrow avoided the electric attack and shot dark energy from her eyes.
"Let's help Murkrow, Blissey use Shadow Ball!" The male trainer ordered. Blissey made a ball of dark energy and shot it at her opponent.
Pelipper avoided both attacks and looked to its trainer for help. "If we get rid of Murkrow, then Blissey will be easy," Togami said, starting to get frustrated. "Use Thunderbolt again! And this time hit it!" Once again Pelipper opened its mouth again and shot out another burst of electricity.
"Avoid it and follow with a Wing Attack!" Ronnie Anne shouted.
"Let's try Water Pulse this time!" Clyde shouted.
Murkrow dodged the attack again, then her wings started glowing. She then flew directly at the Water Bird Pokemon. Blissey made a ball of water and energy, before shooting it towards the same Pokemon. Pelipper dodged the Water Pulse, but moved right into the Wing Attack. It stumbled, but fixed itself.
"Finish this with Brave Bird!" Ronnie Anne commanded. Murkrow's body glowed and charged towards her opponent.
"Let's force it into the attack, use Shadow Ball!" Blissey nodded and fired another attack.
"Take the hit and knock out the Murkrow with Thunderbolt!" Togami shouted in rage. Pelipper hesitantly nodded and prepared to follow its trainer's order.
It took the Shadow Ball, but kept in the air. Pelipper then opened its mouth and shot out another bolt of lightning. Murkrow took the hit, but didn't stop. Brave Bird hit Pelipper and sent it crashing to the ground. As the Water Bird Pokemon hit the ground, with a Magnemite, Bellsprout, and Magby popped out of its mouth.
"Look! There was Pokemon in Pelipper's mouth!" Ronnie Anne shouted, pointing to the Pokemon. Clyde and Lynn glared at the older trainer. While Togami started to look nervous.
"Hold it right there!" A new voice shouted. Everyone looked and saw an Officer Jenny and the kid from before, standing at the entrance. "You're currently being detained under the suspicion of scamming trainers" Office Jenny commanded.
"How long have you been there?" Clyde asked, surprised.
"We got here halfway through the battle" the officer replied.
"I knew what you were doing," Lynn said, still glaring at the older trainer. "Me and Linc ran into someone doing the same thing in Hoenn. It was a guy named Anthony doing the same thing. The only difference is, he wasn't taking trainer's money after winning battles. I wonder if you heard about him and tried to copy it here in Kanto. Just so you know, I recorded this entire battle" she said, pointing to the hidden camera on her bag. "My brother taught me to keep one of these in my bag for certain situations."
Togami knew he was caught, so he did the only thing he could. He tried to run, leaving his Pokemon behind.
"Ghastly use Hypnosis!" Lynn ordered, seeing him run. Ghastly then appeared in front of him and put him to sleep.
"Did you really need me for such a trivial thing?" Ghastly said, slightly annoyed.
"Do you want to go back to Professor Juniper?" Lynn shot back with raised eyebrow.
"Alright, Alright, I get it," the Gas Pokemon said with a sigh. "I'll play nice, it's better than the alternative."
"Is that Pokemon talking?" The kid asked surprised.
"You got Ghastly back?" Ronnie Anne asked, confused.
"Is it safe to keep him?" Clyde asked fearfully.
"Yes he's talking" Lynn started to answer with a sigh. "I got him back a couple of days ago, I just didn't tell you guys yet. Finally, yes he is safe. Professor Juniper wants me to try to reform him. If he tries anything, he knows what will happen."
"Yes, yes, I know," Ghastly grumbled. "I do what I'm told, or the Professor will dispose of me." Lynn then called him back to his pokeball.
"Thanks for your help kids" Officer Jenny said, picking up the handcuffed and asleep trainer. Lynn then gave her the memory card from the hidden camera. "Hopefully we can give some of the trainers their money back. As for his Pokemon, it's hard to say what will happen to them." She then rounded up Togami's Pokemon and loaded them into her vehicle.
"Thanks for helping me Miss," the kid said to Lynn with a smile.
"No problem kid" Lynn said, giving him a soft punch to the arm. He then went to join Officer Jenny, while she then looked to her students. "Let's go have lunch, I'm sure you guys must be hungry now." Both of them nodded and went to find a place to eat and feed their Pokemon.
