Chapter 37: Saffron City Gym Rematch Ronnie Anne vs Sabrina

[Saffron City]

The group has finally returned to Saffron City, where Clyde and Ronnie Anne would have their rematch with Sabrina. They were currently in the pokecenter getting ready for their battles, both physically and mentally. "Are you ready for this Clyde?" Ronnie Anne with confidence.

"Almost, I just need to do one thing," he replied, his voice had a tint of uneasiness in it. He then let out Milcery and knelt down to her. "Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked the Cream Pokemon seriously. She nodded and Clyde sighed. He then pulled the Clover Sweet out of his pocket and gave it to her. Milcery then started to spin around, before she started glowing.

"What the?!" Ronnie Anne said confused, seeing Milcery glowing.

Milcery's form started to change, then the light faded showing she evolved into an Alcremie. She cried out happily looking up at her trainer, which Clyde picked her up and hugged her. "Congratulations Alcremie!" Clyde told her happily.

"So you evolved Milcery," Lynn said from behind Ronnie Anne, startling the girl.

"Yeah," Clyde said looking at his mentor. "I don't have powerhouses like Ronnie Anne's team. Blissey and Misdreavus are my only heavy hitters. Combee is still inexperienced, while Gloom and Milcery didn't know that many offensive attacks. They're good for battles against people who use brute force, but won't work against someone like Sabrina. Against her, you need to be crafty and strong."

"Well you're not wrong about that last thing," Ronnie Anne said nervously while scratching the back of her head.

"However you're wrong about your Pokemon," Lynn told him sternly. "Any Pokemon can become a champion, it's all how the trainer uses and trains that Pokemon. So have faith in them and confidence in yourself."

Both teens looked at her in awe, before Clyde smiled at her. "Thanks Lynn, I needed that," he said to her sincerely.

"Glad I could help, now let's get to the gym," she replied with a smile. Both nodded in agreement and all left the pokecenter. After walking for a few minutes, they found themselves back at the Saffron City Gym. Both rookie trainers looked at each other before walking inside.

Just like last time, Sabrina was there waiting for them. She was in position with the referee in position as well. "You will go first," Sabrina said in her cold and monotone voice pointing towards Ronnie Anne.

Unlike last time, the younger teens weren't taken aback by this. Ronnie Anne only nodded and went to stand in her spot. Clyde and Lynn went to stand off to the side to watch.

"This is an official match between Sabrina of the Saffron City Gym and Ronnie Anne Santiago from Great Lakes City." The referee's voice was loud, clear, and echoed throughout the building. "Both trainers will be able to use three Pokemon, with only the challenger being able to switch out Pokemon. The battle is over when all of someone's Pokemon is unable to battle or one forfeits. The match begins now."

"Go Metang," Sabrina said releasing her Pokemon.

"Let's go Houndour!" Ronnie Anne shouted releasing her first Pokemon. "Start with Howl and follow up with a Fire Fang!"

"Use Miracle Eye and then Reflect!" Sabrina ordered.

Both Pokemon glowed, with Metang pink and Houndour brown. The Dark Pokemon then charged at her opponent, flames covering her mouth. When she went to bite, a barrier surrounded the Iron Claw Pokemon.

"Dang it!" The young female trainer muttered under her breath. "Already, let's change things up. Move back and use another Howl and then Incinerate!"

"Use Light Screen and then a Zen Headbutt!" The gym leader commanded.

"Why use Incinerate after Howl?" Clyde asked out loud. "Howl strengthens physical moves."

"I'm assuming she has a plan," Lynn said to her male student. "However I'm unable to tell you what it is."

Houndour howled again before releasing fire from her mouth. Unfortunately, just before it hit its target, a barrier appears. Metang's body glowed pink and it started charging through the flames and towards Houndour.

"Dodge it and use Bite!" Ronnie Anne shouted urgently.

Houndour stopped her attack and focused on her opponent. Waiting for the right moment, she jumped out of the way of the Headbutt and bit onto one of Metang's arms.

"Great, now use Fire Fang!" The young Mexican-American trainer cheered.

"Use Metal Claw to make it let go!" Sabrina ordered, although her voice never changed.

Houndour's mouth was suddenly covered in flames as she bit onto its arm. Metang's other arm glowed sliver, before it slammed it into Houndour. The Dark Pokemon took the hit, but didn't let go. Metang raised its arm to do it again.

"Quickly use Incinerate!" Ronnie shouted seeing Metang defenseless.

Houndour let go of her opponent and sent a stream of fire at its face. Not expecting this, the Iron Claw Pokemon could only take the attack. When the attack finished, it showed Metang had fainted.

"Metang is unable to battle," the referee announced. "The winner is Houndour." Ronnie Anne started cheering and thanking Houndour. Clyde was cheering on the sidelines, with Lynn smiling and clapping. Sabrina recalled her Pokemon and got ready to send out her next Pokemon.

"Go Natu," the gym leader said, releasing her next Pokemon.

"That's enough Houndour, take a rest," the young trainer said recalling her Pokemon. "You're up Murkrow!" She said releasing her second Pokemon. "Let's start things with Perish Song!" Murkrow then started to sing an ominous song.

This got wide eyed expressions from her companions, and a raised eyebrow from the gym leader. "Perish Songs?!" Clyde shouted with confusion and worry.

"Does she know what that attack does?" Lynn asked the boy beside her. He just gave her a nervous look and shrugged his shoulders.

"Natu use Miracle Eye and then Psychic!" Sabrina ordered.

"Use U-Turn Murkrow!" Ronnie Anne shouted.

"How does Murkrow know U-Turn?" The athletic girl asked her companion.

"I don't know," Clyde replied while thinking. "However, I do remember she bought a couple TMs before leaving Lavender Town. Maybe that's where she got it from, she did use her TM machine a few nights ago."

The Darkness Pokemon glowed green as she charged towards her opponent. Natu glowed pink, but was hit by its opponent before it could attack. Murkrow then suddenly returned to her pokeball, with Poochyena popping out of her pokeball and taking Murkrow's spot on the field.

"Now use Scary Face!" The young female trainer ordered.

Poochyena then put on a scary expression, making Natu hesitate.

"Use Future Sight and then Psychic!" The psychic gym leader ordered.

Natu closed its eyes and started to meditate. After a few seconds, it open its eyes and they started glowing. Poochyena was then picked up by an unseen force, and started being slammed into the ground. Natu only got to slam her into the ground 3 times before Natu suddenly fainted. Poochyena barked at the knocked out Pokemon in victory.

"Natu is unable to battle," the referee announced. "The winner is Poochyena." Ronnie Anne was cheering, while Lynn and Clyde let out a sigh of relief. Sabrina's expression didn't change as she recalled her Pokemon.

"Well it seems like she knew what Parish Song did," Lynn said.

"At least this shows she is learning," Clyde said, calming down.

"Go Kadabra," Sabrina said, sending out her final Pokemon. The Pokemon she sent out was a light brown, bipedal, creature with a tail and holding a spoon.

"Alright Poochyena, let's start with Swagger and then use Howl followed by Bite!" Ronnie Anne shouted.

"Use Miracle Eye then Reflect!" Sabrina ordered.

Poochyena gave Psi Pokemon a cocky look that angered it, but then confused it. As Kadabra staggered with confusion without doing any of its orders. Poochyena glowed while howling, before charging and biting its opponent's leg. The bite snapped out of its confusion and started to glow pink.

"Let it go and use Sand Attack!" The young female trainer quickly shouted.

"Use Psybeam and then Recover!" The gym leader commanded.

The Bite Pokemon let go and started to kick sand at its opponent. Kadabra tried to hit her with Psybeam, however it missed from the Sand Attack. Its body then started to glow and the damage from the Bite started to heal.

"Now use Shadow Ball!" The young girl ordered.

"Use Light Screen and then Disabled!" The psychic gym leader shouted.

Poochyena created a large ball of shadow in front of her mouth, before shooting it at her opponent. Kadabra, who was still clearing the sand from its eyes, couldn't make the Light Screen. The attack hit and pushed it across the battlefield. After getting back to its feet, its eyes glowed blue and disabled Poochyena's Shadow Ball. Suddenly Poochyena was hit out of nowhere from Natu's Future Sight attack.

"Alright, use Mud Slap and then Howl!"

"Use Light Screen and follow it with Psybeam!"

Poochyena slapped the ground, sending mud flying. Which was faster than Kadabra could put up its Light Screen, temporarily blinding the Psi Pokemon. As it wiped the mud off its face, Poochyena howled and powered up.

"Now use Crunch!" Ronnie Anne shouted.

Poochyena quickly went and latched herself to one of Kadabra's legs, while it was still blinded. Kadabra felt the pain and used Psybeam to try to make her let go. Unfortunately Poochyena took the hit and didn't let go.

"Force it to let go with Psychic!" Sabrina ordered.

While it was in pain, Kadabra obeyed. Poochyena's body started to glow and her mouth was being forced to open.

"I hope it's been long enough, try using Shadow Ball!"

Poochyena let go of her opponent then quickly made and shot a Shadow Ball. Having no way to defend itself, Kadabra took the attack point blink. Kadabra was sent flying while letting go of Poochyena. It was soon shown that Kadabra had fainted.

"Kadabra is unable to battle" the referee announced while holding their hand on Ronnie Anne's side up in the air. "Poochyena is the winner and Ronnie Anne has won the match." Ronnie Anne started cheering in victory, Clyde was cheering happily for his friend, while Lynn applauded happily for her student.

Poochyena started to howl in victory, when she started to glow. This caught everyone's attention and they knew what was happening. When the glowing faded, it showed Poochyena had evolved into a Mightyena. Seeing this, Ronnie Anne ran up to and hugged her. As the girl was congratulating her Pokemon, she started to hear her growling. When the girl saw this, she immediately let her go and took a couple steps back. Mightyena then went back to howling in victory.

Sabrina recalled Kadabra, her expression never changing. "Congratulations, you earned the Marsh Badge," she commented as she floated the badge to Ronnie Anne with her psychic abilities. The girl nervously thanked her and then she turned her attention to the only male trainer. "You're next."
