"OH MY GOD!" Nicole shouted and people in their history class turned to look at her. Antonia shushed her to avoid getting any more attention than what they already had. "Why didn't you tell me last night? You could have calledme!" Nicole was excited with the latest news Antonia brought to her. Yesterday after studying, Isaiah had invited Antonia out to Sonic, and the two spent hours talking about anything to keep them around each other as long as possible. "You basically had a date, and you just went right into it!" Nicole couldn't contain her emotions, and it seemed like other people in class also wanted to listen in on what was going on. "It wasn't really a date by my definition because I was not in a fancy restaurant or wasn't picked up from my house. And I'm sorry love I wanted to wait to tell you in person." Nicole looked at her and gave her a sassy expression. "You are so fake." She walked back to her table group and sat down her things down. Antonia laughed and she took out her history notebook. Today was their review day meaning they would take their test tomorrow. Antonia felt confident that she would pass and hoped that her group members would pull their weight. "Sooo... did he ask you to hang out again?" Antonia organized her colored pens and let out a sigh. "No, he didn't. He said that he would see me around school, so I didn't know what that meant. He texted me this morning, but I barely responded earlier. I guess I was too pretty that I scared him." Nicole laughed and then stated, "Things between me and Joseph have been slow. I don't know… maybe he's just not interested in me. I think I should try something else." Nicole shuffled her feet and gave Antonia the cutest puppy eyes. "No! I'm not going to ask him for you! You need to tell him your feelings yourself!" Nicole grabbed onto her desk and pretended to flip it over resulting in them going hysterical. "But I'm too shy… What's going to happen if I say something weird." Antonia looked at the girl and rolled her eyes. "I mean you practically live with him and his mom. You know, if it doesn't turn out well you can crawl out of his bed and cuddle with Rose." Nicole's jaw dropped and she playfully slapped her arm. Antonia went absolutely goofy and then felt something thrown off. The group members she had to work with were a bunch of airheads. She made a mental note of it but just smiled at the girls. Nicole's expression tightened when she saw that the other girls didn't smile back at her friend. Antonia looked back at Nicole raising her eyebrows. She let out a dry laugh knowing she was going to struggle with the girls in the group.
"Ugh, seriously? We have zero points so far!" One of the girls in her group exclaimed. She then looked at Antonia and huffed, "I guess you were right." Antonia was upset since the girls were not listening to her. She felt defeated as the girls kept talking to each other and leaving Antonia out of answering. "Look mate, I know you're team captain but if you're not giving me the chance to talk it's not going to benefit us." Antonia was trying to convey this in the nicest way possible. Then one of the girls rolled her eyes. "So, you think we're stupid?" Antonia looked at her in confusion. "When did I say that?" "Umm… like right now." Antonia looked at Mr. Olson who was clueless about what was going on. He began to read the next question that was on theboard. He was interrupted when Antonia's group member made a nasty remark. "No offense or anything, but you're like a British... Hawaiian person or whatever. Shouldn't you be good at history? Don't you guys change everything?" The class then looked at the blonde girl with shocked expressions. Antonia stopped breathing for a moment. "Erm… 'cuse me?" "I was asking you a question. Like I thought people born in other countries were smarter." The other girls in the group were trying to hide their laughter in which everyone then faced the group of girls. "I'm not an islander if that's what you're hinting at. And I was born here in the States! The nerve you've got to just assume things out of people." Mr. Olson looked sternly at the girls, and they became quiet. Some kids in the class had an expression that made Antonia's face red. She didn't like that people wanted to laugh at her let alone think she was different for growing up in other countries. She quietly got up and grabbed the restroom pass off the hook from the wall. She went to the restroom and took out her phone. She wrote a long paragraph to Nicole about how much she didn't want to go back to class and how she missed London. She tried not to cry but some tears escaped. She didn't know why she was so stressed over something stupid that girl had said. She had been told worse, but it felt like that was crashing down in the moment. When she finally calmed down she returned to the classroom and entered with her head down. Nicole looked at her and wanted to hug her best looked over her eyebrows and noticed Jade and Samuel watchingat her. Jade's expression softened when Antonia slumped in her chair but Samuel kept his stern look. His eyes stayed on her for a while before looking back at the board. For the rest of the class period, Antonia sat quietly listening to her classmates get all their questions wrong during their review game. Everyone turned in their work into the tray before exiting the door. She put her paper in the tray and hoped that her grade wouldn't be impacted by the girls when suddenly she bumped into someone. "Oi! Watch out." Antonia had bumped into Samuel and she immediately stiffened. "My bad love." He didn't say anything and walked out the door. She got her backpack and Nicole waited for her outside the classroom. The two talked before heading to their classes.
