Author Note:
I'm sorry for taking a long time to create new chapters, I won't say this if it is because of me creating a game, but since I spent my time being lazy so I'm sorry. Not only for that, you know after this long time to update, you only get some kind of filler chapter.
As for the review:
Guest: Yeah you're right about that, but... NO REWRITE ON FIRST CHAPTER! I don't wanna! I don't wanna! I don't wanna! I have rewrite that chapter for four times so I won't rewrite unless there is a major plot mistakes.
Lucas Oliveira1: Now that you said it, you're right! I do too much focus on side character, I guess it's because of me using third person POV. I should try for the next chapter using first person POV.
Testarossacain: Yeah, other had said the same thing too, LOL. I should start to figured out a story of him starting to get a little bit smarter.
ShinRainhawk: In gensokyo you should not be hold back by your common sense. Sadly, MC is not living in gensokyo he should have one.
As promised by Allysia, today a carriage for escorting Patchouli has arrived at the front of the mansion gate. Patchouli has detected their arrival but decided to ignore it and continue reading her book. If it is not because Lucifer told her where the carriage's origin is, she will probably ignore it all day. She closed the book and walking toward the mansion gate to the carriage.
The carriage that was stopped in front of the mansion's gate was the same carriage from yesterday. In front of the opened carriage door was Allysia waiting for Patchouli.
"Good morning," Greeted Allysia. "We are very sorry if we are interrupting you this early, but our leader is very impatient to meet you."
"I want to read a book at your place, so it's a good thing that you came here early."
"Oh, that's good! Then let us not waste time. Please enter Miss Knowledge."
Then Allysia gestured to Patchouli to get inside the carriage. After Patchouli entered, Lucifer followed behind her, and the last one to go inside was Allysia.
The ride to the guild mage was a short and peaceful trip. No one inside the carriage was making any small talk. Allysia wanted to talk with Patchouli, but she was hesitating because Patchouli has been reading her book when she entered.
When they have arrived at the mage guild, Patchouli goes out of the carriage first. Patchouli saw the mage guild building and was surprised because it was far different than her expectation. Her first thought about the mage guild was a dark building with a questionable aura. Instead, it was a bright building that looked more like a shop than a place where magicians gather.
Upon entering the mage guild, Patchouli was greeted immediately by the tall elves she met yesterday, Ellysia.
"Welcome to the mage guild. We may have met before, but let me introduce myself again. I'm Ellysia, the guildmaster of this guild. You must be coming here to register yourself in this guild. Then let's go to my office."
"Is it going to take a long time?" Patchouli asked her.
"The registration itself won't be that long, but I want to ask you a few things. But if you think I waste too much of your time, you can always stop me anytime."
"Then demon comes here," Patchouli ordered Lucifer.
"Yes, mistress Patchouli." Lucifer replied.
Patchouli created a paper with her magic. Drawn inside of it was a symbol of a magic circle.
"Go to the library and put this at one of the library's corners. If you are done, you could inform me with your telepathy."
"As you wish."
Though before Lucifer could walk away, Ellysia stopped him, "Wait, you will make that demon go outside without you?"
"Yes," Patchouli answered.
"That one is a scary demon. The adventurer will probably pick a fight with him because of his aura. I suggest you draw a familiar symbol first on his forehead to avoid every adventurer hinder him to the library."
"I could use an illusion to avoid them." Lucifer said.
"You won't fooled the eyes of seasoned adventurer with that. If you have that familiar symbol, they will not pick a fight immediately with you."
"You are right. Then what should I draw?" Patchouli said.
Ellysia took out a paper from inside her pocket dimension. Drawn inside was a hexagram with runic characters at the end of each side.
"Should I recite those strange characters in that drawing to make the seal?"
"Yes, since that magic circle has a function to make him obey all of your commands, but I think you have done that. For now, He only needs something that others can see that he is a familiar, not stray demon. So I think it's okay even if you draw it normally."
Patchouli ordered Lucifer to crouch down a little bit. She then drew the magic circle on his forehead with her magic.
"Is that all I need to get before I go?" Lucifer asked Ellysia.
"Yes, that is all you need. Only a fool will attack you now."
"Then if you excuse me," Lucifer said before he left the guild.
"Is there anything else you need to do before registering?" Ellysia asked Patchouli
"No, that's all."
"Then let's continue with the registration. Please follow me to my office."
On the way to Ellysia's office, many people looked at Patchouli. They wondered who Patchouli was and why she got invited to the guild master's office. Though despite their immense curiosity, no one dared to approach and ask her. The reason for that was because Ellysia and Allysia were beside Patchouli.
The three of them arrived at Ellysia's office room. At the opposite end of the door, there is a plain desk where Ellysia did all of her work. In front of it, two long chairs facing each other for a guest to sit down. Placed in the middle between them is a plain wooden table. Patchouli thought that the office was a nice and cozy place for reading, though she could do without the window brightening the room too much.
After they entered the room, Ellysia becoming excited like a child finding a new toy. With vigor, she gestured for Patchouli to sit down at one of the long chairs. Following Ellysia's invitation, Patchouli sits on the left chair while Ellysia and Allysia sit in the opposite chair.
Before Patchouli could even open her book, Ellysia suddenly bowed, "Please will you become my teacher?!"
"Don't get too excited mother, we still need her to complete the registration first," Allysia said.
"What is the point for her joining us? She is an amazing magician, and she is so much better than your grandmother. There is not much we can give her that benefits her. It is better for me if she is becoming my teacher."
"Your desire is leaking out at the end, mother," Allysia then turned to Patchouli and saw a smile on her face. "Oh, it looked like you are amused by her silliness. Still, I'm sorry for my mother's embarrassing behavior."
"No, it's alright. Her behavior reminded me of Remi. Having a dignified personality when it matters but when something exciting near her, she was amusing to watch."
"Oh! Is she an amazing magician too?" Ellysia butted in.
"No, she is not a magician, she is ..." Patchouli paused, "That dragon told me about a war between demon and human. Should I tell her about Remi?"
"Is there something wrong?" Allysia asked Patchouli.
"I'm sorry, what I meant to say is she is not an amazing magician, but she is quite good with magic."
"Ooh, I guess your standard for magician is very high," Ellysia responded.
"That should be obvious. After all, only those who work hard on magic could become a magician."
"You are absolutely right! That gives me an idea, how about we fight and then you can judge whether I'm a magician or not. If I pass, let me become your disciple."
"I refused. I do not want to teach anybody now. But if you want to fight, then how about we are doing it after the tournament."
"It's unfortunate that you don't want to be my teacher. But I'll take the offer to fight you."
Ellysia stretched out her hand, Patchouli responded by shaking Ellysia's hand with her own.
"Ehem..." Allysia interrupted them.
"Ah yes, let's get back to the registration procedure? Before we register you as a member, I need to ask you a few questions. Is that alright with you?" Ellysia said.
Patchouli nodded.
"First, where are you from?"
"Gensokyo."
"Gensokyo? I never heard any place named that."
"It's not strange for you to never hear about it. After all, the place is hidden inside the barrier. I need to use a special teleportation spell to leave the barrier."
"Oh wow, a barrier that can hide an entire place. Could you tell me where it is? I want to see it for myself."
"I can't tell you that."
"They're hidden for some reason, mother. Don't force her to tell you where it is. Her kingdom must have a reason to do it. It is not our business to know the reason." Allysia said.
"Ugh, you're right. Then at least, could you tell me your special teleportation magic? I want to know how it's different than the usual teleportation skill."
"I can't believe you, mom! That teleportation magic must be a top-secret of their kingdom."
Before Patchouli could respond to Ellysia, she got a telepathic message from Lucifer, "Master, I had drawn the magic circle."
"Since my summoned demon has done his task, how about I show you the teleportation magic? Then you can tell me if it's different than that teleportation skill you mentioned."
Then Patchouli stood up and walked to one of the corners of the room. After that, she chanted a magic spell that Ellysia and Allysia never heard in their lives. When her chant was over, a magic circle appeared on the ground below her.
"Come inside." Patchouli urges both of them.
They followed Patchouli's instruction and standing inside the magic circle. Then Patchouli started her chanted again, then the magic circle lit up with a bluish light that covered the three of them. Unlike Patchouli, while the teleportation happened, Ellysia and Allysia shut their eyes. When they opened their eyes again, they realized that both of them were inside the library.
"So, how is it?" Patchouli asked them.
"Say can you tell me how much MP did you use first?" Ellysia asked.
Patchouli paused a little bit to figured out what she meant. Then she remembered that MP existed on the status board, so she opened it and looked at the MP number.
"It looked like my magic doesn't use any MP."
"Wow, space magic usually needed a lot of MP to use it, and you said you didn't use any MP at all," Ellysia then bowed, "Please teach me this magic later."
Before Patchouli could answer her, Lucifer interrupted their conversation, "I'm sorry to interrupt you, master. But can I ask what I should do with these fools?"
Lucifer pointed at two unconscious adventurers behind him that tied back-to-back with a rope.
Ellysia sighed, "As expected of adventurer, there's always someone in there who is stupid and brave enough to fight something that is beyond their level
"Just do whatever you want to do with them." Patchouli told Lucifer.
Ellysia saw that Lucifer's grinning widely, "Uhm... Could you tell the demon to let them go? I don't think that guy has a good intention with them. If something horrible happened to them, I think you will have a problem with adventurer guild."
Lucifer's face turned into a frown when he heard Ellyssia, "You are right, elves. I will let them go unharmed later. For now, I'll let them unconscious, so they will not bother my master business with you."
"Well, I guess that's good enough. Now should we find a place to sit first before we continue with the registration?" Ellysia said.
Then they all sit down facing each other, with each group sit on a different long chair. Ellysia took out an appraisal ball from her storage magic.
"To register with us, we need your status information. I know you are hiding it to the point that my mystic eyes can't see it, but unfortunately, that is the rule. Though if you don't want to share it, then you could be my teacher. That position doesn't require you to share your status with anyone, and I could tell you all the information about the guild."
"As I said before, I refused to teach anyone. It's not that I'm hiding my status. I just don't like someone probing me without my permission."
"It's unfortunate for me that you rejected to be my teacher again. But anyway, please place your hand in this appraisal ball so we can see your status."
Patchouli looked at the appraisal ball closely. She knew how this tool works from the tournament registration. So she decided to do another experiment with it again.
"What is this?! Why did the appraisal crystal showing weird text? Did you do this?" Ellysia exclaimed.
"Interesting, even when I'm fully block myself, the magic inside the crystal still managed to breach it. I want to do more experiments with it. Can I have one of these appraisal crystals?"
Rather than answering Patchouli, Ellysia tried to process something beyond her expectation.
Seeing Ellysia did not answer Patchouli, Allysia decided to answered Patchouli, "Yes, we can give you one, but can you let the appraisal crystal read your status?"
Patchouli stopped with her experiment and letting the appraisal ball's magic scanned her. Ellysia, who managed to recompose herself shortly before this, was getting shocked again.
"I'm sorry to doubt you, but is this your status? You don't manipulate the crystal to show this status, right?" Ellysia asked Patchouli.
"Yes, that is my status, according to this panel," Patchouli said while pointing to the status panel.
"The more I look at it, the more I want you to be my teacher."
"Ehm... With this, your registration is complete, Miss Patchouli." Allysia said.
She then turned to her mother, "Now, Mother. Could you stop staring at that crystal and give her the card?"
"Eh, ah yes!" She then took out a golden card inside her pant pocket and put it on the appraisal crystal.
"Wait, mom! Why did you immediately give her gold rank?"
Ellysia frowned when she heard what her daughter said, "Did you even see her status? She is better than me! If it's not because of the requirement to be platinum rank, I will elevate her status to that rank."
"Eh, Uhm... I'm sorry. You are right, mother." Allysia said.
"Good," Ellysia then turned to Patchouli, "Here is your card, miss Patchouli."
Patchouli took the card from Ellysia and put it inside her storage magic.
"Okay, now that is done, could you teleport me back to the guild? I need to go back there to documenting your registration."
Patchouli chanted the same magic again. Then a bluish light surrounded the teleportation circle.
"Can the teleport magic be used more than once without your chanting?"
"Yes, in fact, I used the continuous one this time."
"Wow, another extraordinarily magic. Then while I am finishing documenting your registration, you could discuss everything else about the guild with my daughter."
Ellysia then goes inside the magic circle leaving Patchouli with Allysia.
"So, is there something you want to ask me?"
"Yes, you seemed flustered when your mother gave me this gold card. What is the meaning of this card?" Patchouli said while flashing the gold-colored card.
"Having that card means you are gold-ranked magicians of the mage guild. Usually, no one will get that on their registration. That is why I was worried about other jealousy of your achievement doing it."
"Someone who got jealous by this silly rank will only end up as a third-rate magician."
"Ahaha, you're right. Sadly our guild will still need to recruit them even if they have a minimal amount of magic."
"So is there any benefit for gold rank?"
"Yes, there is. If you have that, you could get a discount from buying magic stone from us. Other than that, you will get an invitation to attend a discussion to use magic better with the grandmaster of the mage guild."
"That's it?"
"That's it."
Patchouli sighed, "Then can I ask you something more personal?"
"Yes, but I'll only answer what I can answer."
"You have a talent for wood and wind magic, right?"
"It looked like you can see other talents like my mother. But yes, wood and wind is my talent in magic."
"Are you worshipping a god?"
Allysia paused a little bit, "That surprised me...I never thought you would ask me that. But yes, I worship the same god as every elf, Natua, the god of nature."
"Did you get her blessing?"
"Yes, but how did you know?"
"I could see there are two mana formations around you. One is coming from your own body. The other one is placed on top of it and actively creating wood or wind magic pattern."
Allysia was amazed by Patchouli and unconsciously muttered, "Even better than mother's mystic eyes."
Since Allysia was muttering loud enough, Patchouli could hear her. After that, Allysia opening and closing her mouth repeatedly.
"Is there something wrong with asking for someone's belief in this world?" Patchouli wondered.
After several attempts of opening her mouth, Allysia finally said, "I'm sorry, I can't hold back anymore. Please become my teacher too."
At the same time as Allysia said it, Ellysia was coming out from the teleportation magic. Ellysia was grinning from ear to ear after hearing Allysia's request. Ellysia then swiftly sat down beside her.
"Oh, look who is getting too excited now."
"Mother! When you are here?"
"Just recently, but could you tell me what made you asked her even though you will get rejected too?"
Then Allysia explained to Ellysia how Patchouli could see her mana better than the mystic eyes do. Not only that, she could distinguish between the mana come from Allysia's body or come from Allysia's blessing.
"I see the more I heard about you, the more unfortunate for us that you didn't want to be our teacher. But I will make sure I show you interesting magic at the tournament. You will be interested in it so much that you will not mind teaching us both."
"I doubt it, but I won't stop you from trying."
"You will be amazed by it, I promise you," Ellysia said as he slammed the desk with both of her hands and stood up while looked at Patchouli excitedly.
"Ah, I'm sorry for that," She then calmed herself and sat again. "Anyway, I had done all the documentation for registering you."
"So now I can read the book from your library."
"You can, but I don't recommend it. In the mage guild, there are a lot of curious people, so you won't be left alone for reading."
"If that's a problem, I can solve it easily master" Lucifer joined the conversation.
"Wait, don't! I had a better solution for whatever you are thinking."
"Oh, then let us hear it."
"You could read a book in my office. Not many people will go in there, and I can prepare a lot of good books for you to read."
"I will take your offer then, but please pick a book about mythology and magical device," Patchouli said.
"Yes, I will get all the excellent books about those subjects. Oh yeah, since your registration is complete, you can have this."
Then Ellysia took out the appraisal crystal from her storage magic. Patchouli took and stored it in her storage magic.
After that, Patchouli ordered Lucifer to take any thick book from the mythology section. He bowed down, then left Patchouli with Allysia and Ellysia.
While they waited for him to come back with the books, the three of them discussed the topic of the Gods, especially around their blessing and faith.
Patchouli herself is no stranger from the knowledge about the Gods and what they could do. She had seen and talked with the Gods at Gensokyo, but she never got into the detail since she was not interested in the subject.
After getting the information from Ellysia and Allysia, Patchouli learned something about the Gods from this world. First, just like at Gensokyo, the Gods reside somewhere in this world and can be easily seen in those places. Second, if you are a devout subject, they could give you a blessing. Those blessings can come in many forms, such as their protection or getting an extraordinary skill. Lastly, unlike Gensokyo, it seemed those gods did not need any faith to keep their existence, or at least that is what those two think.
Since the Gods did not need any faith from their follower, it seemed they became lazy and rarely appeared in front of their follower. If the Gods from Gensokyo hear this, they will be jealous of them. Especially those Gods who try so hard to make sure everyone believes in their existence.
During their discussion, Lucifer returned with a towering pile of thick books in his hands. Ellysia told Patchouli that most of those books are worthless. Sure enough, when Patchouli opened the first book, the information inside it was something that she had discussed earlier with Ellysia. Lucifer saw Patchouli's expression immediately bowed and apologized about his selections. Patchouli told him to not worry about it. She then decided to continue with the discussion since she got more useful information from them.
Their discussion ended in the late afternoon. Ellysia and Allysia excused themselves as they had to work at the guilds. They returned to the guild with Patchouli's teleportation magic circle. As for Patchouli, she used the magic circle to teleport back to the mansion. After arriving, Patchouli started researching the magic device until tomorrow came.
As for today's plans, Patchouli decided to read a book at the mage guild and discussed her finding with those two again. She cleaned herself with magic, then immediately going inside the teleportation magic without even rest or eats. Sadly when Patchouli arrived at the guild, Ellysia and Allysia were busy with work.
At first, Patchouli was going to teleport again to the library to avoid disturbing them. But when Ellysia and Alysia heard Patchouli's chanted they stopped her. Both of them flustered and told Patchouli to wait a little bit until their works finished. So Patchouli took their offer and sat down on the chair. Then she took a book from the pile that Ellysia's prepared for her on top of the desk.
Unfortunately, despite Ellysia and Allysia trying to work faster, they finished their work in the afternoon. At the discussion, Patchouli was disappointed with them. Ellysia and Allysia are not very responsive because of their tiredness, so she cut it short and told them to rest.
Like yesterday, after coming back to the mansion, Patchouli started her research again until tomorrow came. Seeing her behavior, Lucifer was worried about her. He then asked her whether it was okay for her to continue her research without rest, especially when the tournament was tomorrow. She told him not to worry and explained how a magician did not need to eat and sleep. Lucifer believed her and decided not to bother her again.
Today she decided not to go to the mage guilds. She did that because she did not want to disturb Ellysia and made her tired for the tournament tomorrow. She spent all day reading all the books Ellysia gave her at her recent visit to the guild in her room.
On the day of the tournament, a carriage was showed up in front of the mansion. The carriage was the same as the one that carried her to this mansion. This time it was missing the flag and emblem of the mage guild. Patchouli goes inside it and sat patiently until they reach the coliseum.
Today is the day where Patchouli will fight against the magicians of this world. The day where she learned how this world magicians use their magic, and the day where her name will spread across the continent as the greatest magician ever lived.
